    Matthew 14 chapter mention

  2. ! Matthew chapter 14 verses 13 to 36.

    Matthew 14:13–36

  3. !

  4. We have gathered because we have trusted in your Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior.

  5. And we ask that in our present gathering, in this time when we hear from you in your Word,

  6. that you would increase our faith to behold your Son, Jesus Christ, in all of His glory,

  7. majesty, power, and love, and grace.

  8. That you would exalt His name and that you would humble us.

  9. That we might be more dependent and more prayerful on you as we leave from this place.

  10. And we ask that you will amaze us afresh.

  11. That you have given to us in Christ the bread of life.

  12. That nourishes unto eternity.

  13. Fill us with more of Yourself.

  14. Your Spirit.

  15. And with the love of Christ.

  16. Right now, Lord, in the reading and preaching of Your Word.

  17. In Jesus' name we pray.

  18. Amen.

  19. Please stand if you are able.

  20. So that we can honor God as we read.

  21. Amen.

  22. Matthew 14, 13 to 36.

  23. Now when Jesus heard this, He withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by Himself.

  24. But when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the towns.

  25. When He went ashore, He saw a great crowd, and He had compassion on them and healed their sick.

  26. Now when it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said,

  27. This is a desolate place, and the day is now over.

  28. Send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.

  29. But Jesus said,

  30. They need not go away.

  31. You give them something to eat.

  32. They said to Him,

  33. We have only five loaves here and two fish.

  34. And He said,

  35. Bring them here to Me.

  36. Then He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass,

  37. and taking the five loaves and the two fish,

  38. He looked up to heaven and said a blessing.

  39. Then He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples,

  40. and the disciples gave them to the crowds.

  41. And they all ate and were satisfied.

  42. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over.

  43. And those who ate were about five thousand men,

  44. besides women and children.

  45. Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat

  46. and go before Him to the other side,

  47. while He dismissed the crowds.

  48. And after He had dismissed the crowds,

  49. He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray.

  50. When evening came, He was there alone.

  51. But the boat by this time was a long way from the land,

  52. beaten by the waves,

  53. for the wind was against them.

  54. And in the fourth watch of the night,

  55. He came to them walking on the sea.

  56. But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea,

  57. they were terrified and said,

  58. It is a ghost.

  59. And they cried out in fear.

  60. But immediately Jesus spoke to them,

  61. saying,

  62. Take heart, it is I.

  63. Do not be afraid.

  64. And Peter answered Him,

  65. Lord, if it is You,

  66. command me to come to You on the water.

  67. He said,

  68. Come.

  69. So Peter got out of the boat

  70. and walked on the water

  71. and came to Jesus.

  72. But when he saw the wind,

  73. he was afraid.

  74. And beginning to sink,

  75. he cried out,

  76. Lord, save me.

  77. Jesus immediately reached out His hand

  78. and took hold of him,

  79. saying to him,

  80. O you of little faith,

  81. why did you doubt?

  82. And when they got into the boat,

  83. the wind ceased.

  84. And those in the boat worshipped Him,

  85. saying,

  86. Truly, you are the Son of God.

  87. And when they had crossed over,

  88. they came to land at Gennesaret.

  89. And when the men of that place recognized Him,

  90. they sent around to all that region

  91. and brought to Him all who were sick

  92. and implored Him

  93. that they might only touch the fringe of His garment.

  94. And as many as touched it were made well.

  95. This is God's holy and authoritative word.

  96. Please be seated.

  97. Acts chapter 8 records

    Acts 8 chapter mention

  98. that in the first century,

  99. there was a man named Simon.

  100. He says that he practiced magic in the city

  101. and amazed the people of Samaria.

  102. And he claimed to be somebody great.

  103. People all paid attention to what he said

  104. and they said of him,

  105. This man is the power of God

  106. that is called great.

  107. And so they called him Simon Magus.

  108. Simon the Magician.

  109. This is the same man who,

  110. in Acts 8, 18-20,

  111. was amazed by the power of the Holy Spirit

  112. falling upon God's people

  113. as the apostles laid hands on them,

  114. that he sought to buy that power with money,

  115. offer the apostles money,

  116. give me also the ability and power to do that.

  117. And Peter, of course, rebuked Him,

  118. saying,

  119. May your silver perish with you

  120. because you thought you could obtain

  121. the gift of God with money.

  122. And so his name has come down in infamy now

  123. because that practice of seeking to

  124. or buying a sacred thing

  125. like an office of an elder or pastor

  126. with money is now called simony.

  127. Later tradition says that Simon Magus

  128. tried to prove that he is divine

  129. by staging a flying demonstration.

  130. But then he fell and broke his legs

  131. and then died shortly thereafter.

  132. This later story is told

  133. in a sensationalized account

  134. in an apocryphal book

  135. that's not part of the biblical canon,

  136. so it's possible that that never happened.

  137. But nonetheless,

  138. Simon Magus fits the stereotype

  139. of many throughout history

  140. who have claimed to be God

  141. but were exposed later on.

  142. There have been other powerful men

  143. throughout history

  144. who have claimed divine status

  145. like Roman Emperor Domitian

  146. in the first century AD

  147. who told people to dress him

  148. as Lord and God.

  149. Or Alexander the Great

  150. of fourth century BC

  151. who claimed to be the son of Zeus.

  152. But neither of these men

  153. garnered any enduring worship

  154. after their death.

  155. And today,

  156. no one claims

  157. that these men were God

  158. or worshiped them as such.

  159. No magical ability,

  160. no political authority or power,

  161. no military dominance or charisma

  162. could sustain these men's claims

  163. to divinity.

  164. How then did Jesus Christ,

  165. whom we saw in the preceding chapter

  166. in chapter 13

  167. as a carpenter's son

  168. whose mother was called Mary,

  169. who had common ordinary brothers

  170. in James, Joseph, and Simon, and Judas,

  171. who hailed from a small,

  172. unremarkable town of Nazareth

  173. and was born of a conquered

  174. and subjugated people, the Jews,

  175. how did he sustain his claim

  176. to be the son of God?

  177. People believed him.

  178. During his generation

  179. and right up to our present generation,

  180. millions upon millions,

  181. billions upon billions

  182. have proclaimed that Jesus

  183. is the son of God.

  184. If you think of it

  185. in a historical sense,

  186. it really is a remarkable phenomenon.

  187. In our passage this morning,

  188. we see Jesus' disciples

  189. worship Jesus saying,

  190. truly you are the son of God.

  191. We've seen up to this point

  192. in the Gospel of Matthew,

  193. spiritual beings,

  194. demons acknowledging

  195. that Jesus is the son of God.

  196. But we have yet to see humans

  197. acknowledge that Jesus

  198. is the son of God.

  199. This is the first time.

  200. And that acknowledgement poses

  201. to us in the 21st century

  202. the same question.

  203. What say you?

  204. What do you make of Jesus?

  205. Who do you say that he is?

  206. Do you believe that Jesus

  207. is the son of God?

  208. And on this third Sunday of Advent,

  209. that's the main point of my sermon,

  210. to trust in Jesus,

  211. for he is the compassionate son of God

  212. who saves us.

  213. First, we're going to look at

  214. how he is the bread in the wilderness.

  215. And second, we're going to look at

  216. how he is the tamer of the sea.

  217. Verse 13 begins,

  218. now when Jesus heard this,

  219. he withdrew from there in a boat

  220. to a desolate place by himself.

  221. We took a break from Matthew last week,

  222. so you might not remember

  223. what it is that prompts Jesus

  224. to remove himself

  225. to a desolate place by himself.

  226. But he's referring to Herod Antipas,

  227. a beheading of John the Baptist

  228. in the preceding passage.

  229. Earlier in chapter 12, verse 15,

  230. when Jesus noticed

  231. that the Pharisees were conspiring

  232. against him how to destroy him,

  233. he also withdrew from there.

  234. And we're seeing now the same pattern.

  235. It's not yet the time for Jesus

  236. to go to the cross and die.

  237. It's not yet the time for Jesus

  238. to have that overt confrontation

  239. with the Jewish religious authorities

  240. or with the kings of the earth.

  241. Herod Antipas killed John the Baptist,

  242. and now he has heard about the fame of Jesus,

  243. he said in Matthew chapter 14, verse 1.

    Matthew 14:1

  244. He fears that Jesus is John the Baptist

  245. raised from the dead,

  246. and he believes that's why

  247. miraculous powers at work in him.

  248. And so that doesn't bode well for Jesus.

  249. Jesus avoids the overt confrontation

  250. at this time.

  251. He withdraws to a desolate place.

  252. That's another translation for a desert

  253. or the wilderness.

  254. So it may not be the exact same place.

  255. It's probably not the exact same place

  256. that John the Baptist ministered in.

  257. He ministered in the wilderness,

  258. in a desolate place in the desert.

  259. But the verbal parallel still hearkens

  260. that parallel, the connection

  261. between John the Baptist's ministry

  262. in the wilderness

  263. and Jesus' withdrawal now

  264. into the wilderness.

  265. The servants and prophets of God

  266. are often found not in the palaces of kings,

  267. but in the desolate wilderness.

  268. Marginalized.

  269. Persecuted.

  270. So don't be surprised if in the future

  271. you find yourself in a similar place.

  272. But like a celebrity

  273. who can't get away from the paparazzi,

  274. Jesus cannot get away from the adoring crowds.

  275. He says in verse 13,

  276. but when the crowds heard it,

  277. they followed him on foot from the towns.

  278. And they must have been very fleet on foot

  279. because they get there before Jesus does

  280. with the boat.

  281. He says that when he gets there in verse 14,

  282. there's a great crowd already waiting for him there.

  283. Imagine being in Jesus' shoes for a moment.

  284. He has been traveling all over the place.

  285. He's an itinerant preacher.

  286. He's teaching and healing all over the place.

  287. He's probably exhausted.

  288. On top of that,

  289. he has just heard that his friend

  290. and forerunner, John the Baptist,

  291. was murdered.

  292. He wants some time away from the crowds

  293. to be alone.

  294. So he withdraws to a desolate place

  295. where he can be alone.

  296. But these unconcerned, heedless people

  297. just will not leave him alone.

  298. They follow him even to that desolate place.

  299. What would you feel if you were in that situation?

  300. Annoyance?

  301. Frustration?

  302. Perhaps even anger

  303. at people's selfishness

  304. and lack of consideration.

  305. But that's not what we see

  306. in this portrait of Jesus.

  307. He says that when Jesus saw a great crowd,

  308. he had compassion on them

  309. and healed their sick.

  310. When people see others in need,

  311. they can respond with a cold indifference.

  312. It's none of my business.

  313. Or they can respond with presumptuous judgment.

  314. Oh, they're needy because it's their fault.

  315. They deserve what they got.

  316. But a compassionate person

  317. doesn't respond in either of those ways.

  318. A compassionate person feels sympathy.

  319. He feels pity for the person in need.

  320. He desires to meet that need.

  321. This is a wonderful attribute

  322. of our Savior Jesus Christ

  323. that we see over and over again

  324. in the Gospel of Matthew.

  325. Early in chapter 9, verses 35 to 36,

  326. when Jesus saw the crowds

  327. that were helpless and harassed

  328. like sheep without a shepherd,

  329. he says that Jesus had compassion on them.

  330. Same word.

  331. Later in Matthew 15, verse 32,

    Matthew 15:32

  332. when Jesus sees a crowd that is hungry,

  333. he says that they had nothing to eat.

  334. And he says that Jesus had compassion on the crowd.

  335. In chapter 20, verse 34,

  336. when two blind men cry out to Jesus,

  337. saying, please open our eyes,

  338. it says that Jesus had compassion on them,

  339. and therefore he healed them.

  340. It's translated pity there in the ESV,

  341. but it's the same exact word in the Greek.

  342. And then in the parable of the unforgiving servant

  343. that Jesus tells in Matthew 18,

  344. God is represented as the master

  345. who then has compassion on the servant

  346. who owes him a large debt and forgives his debt.

  347. This is what God is like.

  348. The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God.

  349. And that's what Jesus is like.

  350. But because we're used to dealing with people

  351. who are not compassionate,

  352. who are sinful like us,

  353. we are conditioned not to expect God and Jesus

  354. to be compassionate as they actually are

  355. when we are needy.

  356. When we come to God as empty-handed beggars,

  357. when we come to God as impoverished debtors,

  358. debtors, when we come to God as sorry sinners,

  359. seeking his forgiveness,

  360. God does not scoff or scorn.

  361. He has compassion on us.

  362. When we acknowledge our weakness

  363. and turn to him in prayer

  364. and seek his power in prayer,

  365. God does not turn away

  366. and tells us to figure it out on our own.

  367. When we acknowledge our sinfulness

  368. and seek God's forgiveness,

  369. he does not condemn us.

  370. He has compassion on us.

  371. And because of his compassion,

  372. Jesus continues to interact with the crowd

  373. and it says in verse 14

  374. that he healed their sick.

  375. We see Jesus doing this later

  376. in verses 34 to 36 as well

  377. after he has crossed over to Gennesaret.

  378. It says that they hear of his coming

  379. and they bring all their sick.

  380. It's quite the welcome, right?

  381. Bring all the sick people.

  382. Let's go see Jesus.

  383. And they're so eager.

  384. They just want the sick people

  385. to touch the fringe of his garment,

  386. knowing that even then they will be healed.

  387. And it did happen that way.

  388. It's similar to what happens in Acts 19

  389. when people touch the handkerchiefs

  390. and aprons that Paul had touched

  391. and then they're healed through that as well.

  392. It seems that when God is so powerfully

  393. at work in and through someone,

  394. even that kind of indirect contact

  395. can lead to extraordinary healing.

  396. But let's return to verse 15.

  397. As Jesus is healing and ministering to people,

  398. the day wears away

  399. and his disciples anticipate

  400. a very practical problem.

  401. He says,

  402. Now when it was evening,

  403. the disciples came to him and said,

  404. This is a desolate place.

  405. And the day is now over.

  406. Send the crowds away

  407. to go into the villages

  408. and buy food for themselves.

  409. With the sun setting,

  410. the disciples think

  411. Jesus has surely lost track of time.

  412. Jesus, this is a desolate place.

  413. There's no place to get food around here.

  414. So before it's too late,

  415. you better send them off

  416. so that they can disperse into the villages

  417. and buy food for themselves,

  418. lest they be stranded without food

  419. in the middle of the nowhere,

  420. in the middle of the night.

  421. It's a thoughtful and sensible concern.

  422. But Jesus responds in verse 16,

  423. They need not go away.

  424. You give them something to eat.

  425. The sentence structure

  426. is actually emphatic.

  427. So you can read it exactly the way I read it.

  428. They need not go away.

  429. You give them something to eat.

  430. But the disciples object in verse 17,

  431. We have only five loaves here

  432. and two fish.

  433. The meager portions of food that they have

  434. is not quite enough

  435. even to feed Jesus and his 12 apostles.

  436. How can it possibly feed 5,000 men

  437. besides the woman and the children?

  438. In 2 Kings 4,

  439. we see a similar situation

  440. when prophet Elijah

  441. needs to feed 100 men

  442. and it says that they only had

  443. 20 loaves of barley

  444. and fresh ears of grain.

  445. And Elijah tells his servant,

  446. Give to the man that they may eat.

  447. And then the servant responds,

  448. How can I set this

  449. before 100 men?

  450. 20 loaves for 100 men,

  451. not enough.

  452. 5 loaves for 5,000 men,

  453. how can that be possibly enough?

  454. It says specifically 5,000 men

  455. and women and children besides.

  456. It was common in the ancient world

  457. to estimate the size of large crowds

  458. by simply counting the men

  459. and then you can guess

  460. how many women and children

  461. there might be in addition to that.

  462. So conservative estimates say

  463. that this is in the tens of thousands of people.

  464. The math is insurmountable.

  465. Jesus' command,

  466. You give them something to eat,

  467. must have sounded to the disciples

  468. like a joke.

  469. You're funny, Jesus.

  470. Me?

  471. But as they look into Jesus' eyes,

  472. they realize,

  473. Oh, he's serious.

  474. And then they become incredulous.

  475. You're kidding, right?

  476. You're kidding.

  477. We have one loaf of bread

  478. for every thousand men.

  479. How can we possibly set this out

  480. before this great crowd?

  481. But this is how God likes to work, isn't it?

  482. He gives us missions

  483. with their odds stacked against us.

  484. In Judges 7,

  485. God takes the 32,000 soldiers of Gideon

  486. and then he whittles them down

  487. and down and down

  488. until there's 300 left

  489. before he sends them out

  490. in war against the Midianites.

  491. In 1 Kings 18,

  492. why does God send Elijah

  493. by himself

  494. to confront the 450 prophets of Baal?

  495. To show that nothing can hinder

  496. the Lord from saving,

  497. whether by many or by few.

  498. As God tells the Israelites

  499. in Deuteronomy 7, 7,

  500. it was not because you were more numerous,

  501. more in number than any other people

  502. that the Lord set his love on you

  503. and chose you,

  504. for you were the fewest of all peoples.

  505. God didn't choose the Israelites

  506. because they were a great enumeration.

  507. He chose them

  508. even though they were the fewest.

  509. Compare that to 1 Corinthians 1, 26 to 29.

  510. For consider your calling, brothers.

  511. Not many of you were wise

  512. according to worldly standards.

  513. Not many were powerful.

  514. Not many were of noble birth.

  515. But God chose what is foolish in the world

  516. to shame the wise.

  517. God chose what is weak in the world

  518. to shame the strong.

  519. God chose what is low and despised in the world,

  520. even things that are not,

  521. to bring to nothing things that are.

  522. Why?

  523. So that no human being

  524. might boast in the presence of God.

  525. God often sends his people out

  526. with intentional defects and deficits

  527. so that they have no choice

  528. but to depend on him

  529. and so that in the end,

  530. no human being might boast

  531. in the presence of God.

  532. At the end of this event,

  533. no disciple is going to say

  534. after feeding of the 5,000,

  535. wow, look at me.

  536. I really underestimated

  537. !

  538. I really underestimated

  539. how gifted I am at dividing bread.

  540. But,

  541. we are sent out with needs

  542. that only God can fill

  543. so that in the end,

  544. only God receives the glory.

  545. Do you remember

  546. what Pastor Ed said last week

  547. at the ordination service?

  548. That this is what he feels like?

  549. He feels like a disciple

  550. with five loaves

  551. and two fish in his hand

  552. being commanded to feed a multitude.

  553. His resources and abilities

  554. like that of any other pastor,

  555. it's meager compared

  556. to the great task before him.

  557. But that deficit is intentional.

  558. Likewise,

  559. when some of you return

  560. to your unbelieving family members

  561. this Christmas,

  562. wondering how you're going

  563. to bear witness to Jesus

  564. and share the good news

  565. of Jesus Christ with them,

  566. and feeling inadequate,

  567. remember that the deficit

  568. is intentional.

  569. It is an invitation

  570. to come to Jesus

  571. in your weakness

  572. and in need

  573. and to plead

  574. for his help and power.

  575. Look at what Jesus says

  576. in verse 18.

  577. Bring them here

  578. to me.

  579. Jesus doesn't say,

  580. okay,

  581. send them out

  582. into the villages

  583. in that case

  584. so that they can buy

  585. bread for themselves.

  586. There are many shops

  587. not far from here

  588. so go quickly

  589. and buy more bread

  590. for the crowd

  591. and come back.

  592. No,

  593. Jesus does not expect

  594. the crowd

  595. to feed themselves

  596. nor does he expect

  597. his disciples

  598. to rely on their own resources

  599. and their own resourcefulness.

  600. No,

  601. he invites them

  602. to depend on him.

  603. Bring them to me.

  604. Bring those loaves

  605. to me.

  606. As the hymn famously says,

  607. what a friend

  608. we have in Jesus.

  609. All our sins

  610. and griefs to bear.

  611. What a privilege

  612. to carry

  613. everything to God

  614. in prayer.

  615. Are we weak

  616. and heavy laden

  617. cumbered with

  618. a load of care?

  619. Precious Savior

  620. still our refuge.

  621. Take it to the Lord

  622. in prayer.

  623. Imagine that you're

  624. in a pottery studio

  625. and you just

  626. shaped a nice

  627. concave bowl

  628. and you told your friend,

  629. hey,

  630. look at my bowl

  631. and then

  632. your friend goes,

  633. oh,

  634. that's misshapen.

  635. That's a misshapen,

  636. useless ball.

  637. What's up

  638. with that hollow cavity

  639. in the middle?

  640. Let me help you.

  641. And then he remolds it

  642. and turns it into a ball.

  643. Right?

  644. He has profoundly

  645. misunderstood

  646. your intent.

  647. But that's what

  648. we often do

  649. with God.

  650. God put

  651. the cavity there.

  652. He put

  653. that empty spot

  654. there

  655. intentionally.

  656. He put

  657. that deficit

  658. there.

  659. It's there

  660. because God

  661. intends to fill it

  662. with himself

  663. and with his grace

  664. and with his power.

  665. Our need is there

  666. because God

  667. intends to meet it

  668. but we run

  669. ourselves haggard

  670. trying to be

  671. self-sufficient.

  672. trying to be

  673. self-righteous.

  674. Trying to prove

  675. ourselves

  676. to ourselves

  677. and to all those

  678. around us

  679. that we are not

  680. as needy

  681. and weak

  682. and sinful

  683. as we actually

  684. are.

  685. But we must

  686. stop living

  687. like that.

  688. Don't try to

  689. fill the deficit

  690. that God has put

  691. inside your life.

  692. So the disciples

  693. bring the five loaves

  694. and the two fish

  695. to Jesus

  696. and he says

  697. in verses 19 to 20

  698. then he ordered

  699. the crowds

  700. to sit down

  701. on the grass

  702. and taking the five

  703. loaves and the two fish

  704. he looked up to heaven

  705. and said a blessing.

  706. Then he broke

  707. the loaves

  708. and gave them

  709. to the disciples

  710. and the disciples

  711. gave them

  712. to the crowds.

  713. Notice the sequence

  714. of events here.

  715. Jesus is still

  716. requiring

  717. by doing this

  718. requiring

  719. and asking

  720. and inviting

  721. his disciples

  722. to put their

  723. trust in him.

  724. After Jesus

  725. prays

  726. the five loaves

  727. of bread

  728. do not start

  729. multiplying

  730. by themselves

  731. and overflowing

  732. the baskets

  733. like the treasures

  734. in Lestrange's

  735. vault

  736. in Gringotts

  737. or something like that.

  738. Every time

  739. Jesus touches

  740. one bread

  741. it turns into

  742. ten more bread.

  743. That's not what happens.

  744. It's the same

  745. five loaves

  746. of bread

  747. that Jesus

  748. hands to his disciples

  749. to distribute

  750. to the crowds.

  751. So imagine

  752. yourself

  753. in the disciples'

  754. shoes.

  755. He just took it

  756. he just prayed

  757. for it

  758. and then

  759. wait for it

  760. wait for it

  761. wait for it

  762. oh it's still

  763. five loaves

  764. of bread.

  765. Okay?

  766. And then

  767. he hands it

  768. to him.

  769. Alright

  770. go.

  771. Okay.

  772. Alright.

  773. I mean

  774. if I'm

  775. one of the

  776. disciples

  777. I'm not

  778. giving away

  779. very much

  780. you know?

  781. It's like

  782. it's like

  783. it's like

  784. most churches

  785. communion sized

  786. wafers

  787. you know?

  788. It's like

  789. but

  790. it's in

  791. the act

  792. of

  793. in their

  794. act of

  795. faith

  796. and obedience

  797. as they

  798. trust Jesus

  799. and start

  800. distributing

  801. this bread

  802. the meager

  803. portions of bread

  804. that the

  805. miracle happens.

  806. And

  807. as they're

  808. giving this

  809. out

  810. soon

  811. any

  812. remaining

  813. doubt

  814. and unbelief

  815. turns into

  816. disbelief

  817. what?

  818. We're still

  819. going?

  820. And then

  821. as they

  822. keep obeying

  823. as they

  824. keep believing

  825. they grow

  826. in confidence

  827. they grow

  828. in faith

  829. and now

  830. they're

  831. giving out

  832. big chunks

  833. of bread

  834. here you

  835. go.

  836. There's

  837. still more

  838. there's

  839. still more

  840. it says

  841. in verse

  842. 20

  843. they all

  844. ate

  845. and were

  846. satisfied

  847. and they

  848. took up

  849. twelve

  850. baskets

  851. full of

  852. the

  853. broken

  854. pieces

  855. left

  856. over.

  857. Jesus

  858. didn't

  859. just

  860. wet

  861. people's

  862. appetites

  863. just

  864. enough

  865. to

  866. stave

  867. off

  868. their

  869. hunger

  870. until

  871. their

  872. next

  873. meal

  874. no

  875. Jesus

  876. satisfied

  877. them.

  878. And

  879. how

  880. kind

  881. is it

  882. of

  883. Jesus

  884. to

  885. use

  886. his

  887. disciples

  888. in

  889. this

  890. setting?

  891. Jesus

  892. could

  893. have

  894. cut

  895. the

  896. disciples

  897. out

  898. of

  899. the

  900. equation

  901. altogether.

  902. He

  903. could

  904. have

  905. distributed

  906. the bread

  907. himself.

  908. He

  909. asks

  910. instead

  911. his

  912. disciples

  913. to

  914. distribute

  915. the

  916. bread.

  917. To

  918. have

  919. the

  920. privilege

  921. of

  922. being

  923. employed

  924. in

  925. God's

  926. service.

  927. To

  928. experience

  929. the

  930. joy

  931. of

  932. seeing

  933. God

  934. work

  935. powerfully

  936. and in

  937. doing so

  938. building up

  939. their

  940. faith.

  941. And

  942. how

  943. kind

  944. also

  945. of

  946. Jesus

  947. to

  948. use

  949. the

  950. five

  951. loaves

  952. that

  953. his

  954. disciples

  955. had

  956. to

  957. begin

  958. with.

  959. Jesus

  960. could

  961. have

  962. cut

  963. that

  964. out

  965. of

  966. the

  967. equation

  968. too.

  969. He

  970. could

  971. have

  972. just

  973. prayed

  974. and

  975. then

  976. he

  977. could

  978. have

  979. rained

  980. manna

  981. from

  982. heaven

  983. like

  984. he

  985. did

  986. in

  987. the

  988. wilderness.

  989. He

  990. didn't

  991. have

  992. to

  993. use

  994. the

  995. disciples

  996. five

  997. loaves

  998. of

  999. bread

  1000. but

  1001. Jesus

  1002. doesn't

  1003. do

  1004. that.

  1005. Instead

  1006. the

  1007. disciples

  1008. experienced

  1009. the

  1010. privilege

  1011. of

  1012. having

  1013. their

  1014. meager

  1015. ordinary

  1016. resources

  1017. multiplied

  1018. by

  1019. God

  1020. to

  1021. accomplish

  1022. extraordinary

  1023. things.

  1024. Isn't

  1025. that what

  1026. God

  1027. does

  1028. with

  1029. every

  1030. single

  1031. one

  1032. of

  1033. us?

  1034. God

  1035. used

  1036. my

  1037. stumbling

  1038. mumbling

  1039. gospel

  1040. witness

  1041. to draw

  1042. that

  1043. person

  1044. a little

  1045. closer

  1046. to

  1047. Christ?

  1048. God

  1049. you

  1050. used

  1051. my

  1052. imperfect

  1053. example

  1054. to

  1055. challenge

  1056. a

  1057. brother

  1058. or

  1059. sister

  1060. in

  1061. Christ

  1062. onto

  1063. greater

  1064. obedience?

  1065. You

  1066. used

  1067. my

  1068. five

  1069. loaves

  1070. of

  1071. bread

  1072. to

  1073. feed

  1074. the

  1075. five

  1076. thousand.

  1077. How

  1078. kind

  1079. is our

  1080. Lord?

  1081. I

  1082. mentioned

  1083. to you

  1084. that this

  1085. miracle

  1086. mirrors

  1087. the one

  1088. performed

  1089. by

  1090. prophet

  1091. Elijah

  1092. but

  1093. there

  1094. is

  1095. a

  1096. still

  1097. older

  1098. miracle

  1099. that

  1100. the feeding

  1101. of the

  1102. multitude

  1103. in the

  1104. wilderness

  1105. alludes

  1106. to

  1107. a

  1108. millennia

  1109. and a

  1110. half

  1111. before

  1112. this

  1113. event

  1114. at the

  1115. time

  1116. of

  1117. Israel's

  1118. exodus

  1119. !

  1120. God

  1121. used

  1122. Moses

  1123. to

  1124. to

  1125. rain

  1126. bread

  1127. down

  1128. from

  1129. heaven

  1130. to

  1131. feed

  1132. his

  1133. people

  1134. in

  1135. the

  1136. wilderness

  1137. likewise

  1138. here

  1139. in a

  1140. desolate

  1141. place

  1142. in the

  1143. wilderness

  1144. Jesus

  1145. provides

  1146. bread

  1147. for

  1148. his

  1149. people

  1150. and

  1151. I

  1152. don't

  1153. think

  1154. it's

  1155. coincidence

  1156. that

  1157. they

  1158. end

  1159. up

  1160. with

  1161. twelve

  1162. baskets

  1163. full

  1164. of

  1165. leftover

  1166. broken

  1167. bread

  1168. why

  1169. why

  1170. twelve

  1171. because

  1172. of course

  1173. there's

  1174. twelve

  1175. apostles

  1176. and because

  1177. there's

  1178. the twelve

  1179. tribes

  1180. of Israel

  1181. this is

  1182. God's

  1183. way of

  1184. showing

  1185. us

  1186. that

  1187. in

  1188. Christ

  1189. he

  1190. satisfies

  1191. all

  1192. of

  1193. his

  1194. people

  1195. !

  1196. Jesus

  1197. is

  1198. gathering

  1199. together

  1200. a

  1201. people

  1202. of

  1203. God

  1204. to

  1205. himself

  1206. and

  1207. sitting

  1208. at

  1209. the

  1210. head

  1211. of

  1212. that

  1213. dining

  1214. table

  1215. in a

  1216. parallel

  1217. passage

  1218. of

  1219. this

  1220. account

  1221. in

  1222. John

  1223. 6

  1224. after

  1225. performing

  1226. this

  1227. miracle

  1228. Jesus

  1229. says

  1230. truly

  1231. truly

  1232. I

  1233. say

  1234. to

  1235. you

  1236. it

  1237. was

  1238. not

  1239. Moses

  1240. who

  1241. gave

  1242. you

  1243. the

  1244. bread

  1245. from

  1246. heaven

  1247. but

  1248. my

  1249. father

  1250. gives

  1251. you

  1252. the

  1253. true

  1254. bread

  1255. from

  1256. heaven

  1257. for

  1258. the

  1259. bread

  1260. of

  1261. God

  1262. is

  1263. he

  1264. who

  1265. comes

  1266. down

  1267. from

  1268. heaven

  1269. and

  1270. gives

  1271. life

  1272. to

  1273. the

  1274. world

  1275. then

  1276. Jesus

  1277. says

  1278. something

  1279. remarkable

  1280. he

  1281. says

  1282. I

  1283. am

  1284. the

  1285. bread

  1286. of

  1287. life

  1288. whoever

  1289. comes

  1290. to

  1291. me

  1292. shall

  1293. not

  1294. hunger

  1295. and

  1296. whoever

  1297. believes

  1298. in

  1299. me

  1300. shall

  1301. not

  1302. thirst

  1303. we

  1304. spend

  1305. our

  1306. lives

  1307. working

  1308. and

  1309. working

  1310. and

  1311. working

  1312. for

  1313. what

  1314. Jesus

  1315. calls

  1316. the

  1317. bread

  1318. that

  1319. perishes

  1320. Food

  1321. that

  1322. perishes

  1323. !

  1324. But

  1325. he

  1326. tells

  1327. us

  1328. to

  1329. seek

  2139. around

  2140. the

  2141. time

  2142. that

  2143. Jesus

  2144. comes

  2145. to

  2146. them

  2147. walking

  2148. on

  2149. the

  2150. sea

  2151. and

  2152. we

  2153. know

  2154. that

  2155. the

  2156. feeding

  2157. of

  2158. the

  2159. multitude

  2160. happened

  2161. in

  2162. the

  2163. first

  2164. watch

  2165. between

  2166. 6

  2167. p.m.

  2168. and

  2169. 9

  2170. p.m.

  2171. because

  2172. that's

  2173. from

  2174. about

  2175. you know

  2176. at

  2177. least

  2178. 9

  2179. p.m.

  2180. to

  2181. 3

  2182. a.m.

  2183. that's

  2184. 6

  2185. hours

  2186. 6

  2187. hours

  2188. Jesus

  2189. is

  2190. praying

  2191. to

  2192. God

  2193. the

  2194. Father

  2195. if

  2196. the

  2197. Son

  2198. of

  2199. God

  2200. sees

  2201. fit

  2202. to

  2203. pray

  2204. to

  2205. his

  2206. Father

  2207. for

  2208. six

  2209. hours

  2210. throughout

  2211. the

  2212. night

  2213. how

  2214. much

  2215. more

  2216. desperately

  2217. do

  2218. we

  2219. need

  2220. to

  2221. pray

  2222. how

  2223. much

  2224. more

  2225. should

  2226. we

  2227. be

  2228. aware

  2229. of

  2230. our

  2231. own

  2232. need

  2233. for

  2234. God's

  2235. help

  2236. and

  2237. if

  2238. Jesus

  2239. has

  2240. been

  2241. praying

  2242. for

  2243. six

  2244. hours

  2245. his

  2246. disciples

  2247. have

  2248. been

  2249. rowing

  2250. for

  2251. six

  2252. hours

  2253. if

  2254. you've

  2255. never

  2256. rowed

  2257. before

  2258. is

  2259. Annabella

  2260. here

  2261. she's

  2262. probably

  2263. traveling

  2264. already

  2265. you guys

  2266. could

  2267. talk to

  2268. Annabella

  2269. one of

  2270. our

  2271. church

  2272. members

  2273. who

  2274. rows

  2275. it's

  2276. something

  2277. that

  2278. requires

  2279. entire

  2280. bodily

  2281. exertion

  2282. you

  2283. could

  2284. go

  2285. on

  2286. the

  2287. ERG

  2288. machine

  2289. and

  2290. do

  2291. it

  2292. for

  2293. two

  2294. minutes

  2295. I

  2296. guarantee

  2297. you

  2298. you'll

  2299. be

  2300. spent

  2301. maybe

  2302. not

  2303. all

  2304. of

  2305. you

  2306. sorry

  2307. for

  2308. you

  2309. know

  2310. imagine

  2311. doing

  2312. that

  2313. for

  2314. six

  2315. hours

  2316. you

  2317. could

  2318. take

  2319. breaks

  2320. you

  2321. could

  2322. take

  2323. turns

  2324. it

  2325. doesn't

  2326. matter

  2327. by

  2328. the

  2329. end

  2330. of

  2331. six

  2332. hours

  2333. you're

  2334. done

  2335. you're

  2336. spent

  2337. it's

  2338. such

  2339. a

  2340. this

  2341. is

  2342. really

  2343. not

  2344. the

  2345. point

  2346. of

  2347. !

  2348. this

  2349. passage

  2350. but

  2351. it's

  2352. just

  2353. such

  2354. a

  2355. helpful

  2356. contrast

  2357. and

  2358. illustrative

  2359. contrast

  2360. to me

  2361. I try

  2362. sometimes

  2363. like

  2364. oh

  2365. I'm

  2366. so

  2367. busy

  2368. I

  2369. can't

  2370. pray

  2371. right

  2372. now

  2373. I

  2374. have

  2375. so

  2376. much

  2377. work

  2378. to do

  2379. I

  2380. need

  2381. to

  2382. get

  2383. ahead

  2384. on

  2385. my

  2386. work

  2387. and

  2388. you

  2389. try

  2390. to

  2391. get

  2392. ahead

  2393. on

  2394. your

  2395. work

  2396. and

  2397. you

  2398. know

  2399. what

  2400. happens

  2401. you

  2402. just

  2403. run

  2404. into

  2405. headwind

  2406. and

  2407. you

  2408. don't

  2409. get

  2410. ahead

  2411. at

  2412. all

  2413. would

  2414. have

  2415. much

  2416. better

  2417. spent

  2418. praying

  2419. seeking

  2420. !

  2421. God

  2422. first

  2423. but

  2424. I

  2425. don't

  2426. blame

  2427. the

  2428. disciples

  2429. because

  2430. Jesus

  2431. made

  2432. them

  2433. go

  2434. in

  2435. there

  2436. Jesus

  2437. made

  2438. the

  2439. disciples

  2440. get

  2441. into

  2442. the

  2443. boat

  2444. and

  2445. go

  2446. before

  2447. him

  2448. to

  2449. the

  2450. other

  2451. side

  2452. Jesus

  2453. is

  2454. the

  2455. one

  2456. who

  2457. is

  2458. sovereignly

  2459. orchestrating

  2460. this

  2461. he

  2462. knows

  2463. they're

  2464. going

  2465. to

  2466. run

  2467. into

  2468. the

  2469. headwind

  2470. he

  2471. knows

  2472. he's

  2473. going

  2474. to

  2475. come

  2476. to

  2477. them

  2478. and

  2479. he's

  2480. !

  2481. going

  2482. to

  2483. !

  2484. Again

  2485. this

  2486. illustrates

  2487. what I

  2488. was

  2489. saying

  2490. earlier

  2491. that

  2492. God

  2493. sends

  2494. us

  2495. out

  2496. with

  2497. intentional

  2498. deficits

  2499. so that

  2500. we

  2501. must

  2502. depend

  2503. on

  2504. him

  2505. and

  2506. so

  2507. that

  2508. no

  2509. man

  2510. may

  2511. boast

  2512. even

  2513. the

  2514. headwinds

  2515. that

  2516. we

  2517. face

  2518. in

  2519. our

  2520. lives

  2521. resistance

  2522. opposition

  2523. persecution

  2524. hardship

  2525. and

  2526. suffering

  2527. none

  2528. of it

  2529. comes

  2530. outside

  2531. of the

  2532. sovereign

  2533. hand

  2534. of our

  2535. heavenly

  2536. father

  2537. do you

  2538. believe

  2539. that

  2540. God

  2541. says

  2542. in

  2543. Isaiah

  2544. 45

  2545. 7

  2546. and

  2547. 9

  2548. I

  2549. form

  2550. light

  2551. and

  2552. create

  2553. darkness

  2554. I

  2555. make

  2556. well-being

  2557. and

  2558. create

  2559. calamity

  2560. I

  2561. am

  2562. the

  2563. Lord

  2564. who

  2565. does

  2566. all

  2567. these

  2568. things

  2569. shower

  2570. heavens

  2571. from

  2572. above

  2573. and let

  2574. the

  2575. clouds

  2576. rain

  2577. down

  2578. righteousness

  2579. let

  2580. the

  2581. earth

  2582. open

  2583. that

  2584. salvation

  2585. and

  2586. righteousness

  2587. may

  2588. bear

  2589. fruit

  2590. let

  2591. the

  2592. earth

  2593. cause

  2594. them

  2595. both

  2596. to

  2597. sprout

  2598. I

  2599. the

  2600. Lord

  2601. have

  2602. created

  2603. it

  2604. woe

  2605. to

  2606. him

  2607. who

  2608. strives

  2609. with

  2610. him

  2611. who

  2612. say

  2613. to

  2614. him

  2615. who

  2616. forms

  2617. it

  2618. what

  2619. are

  2620. you

  2621. making

  2622. where

  2623. your

  2624. work

  2625. has

  2626. no

  2627. handles

  2628. where

  2629. do

  2630. you

  2631. see

  2632. the

  2633. headwinds

  2634. of

  2635. your

  2636. life

  2637. where

  2638. in

  2639. your

  2640. life

  2641. do

  2642. you

  2643. find

  2644. yourself

  2645. rowing

  2646. against

  2647. the

  2648. wind

  2649. and

  2650. against

  2651. the

  2652. current

  2653. trust

  2654. in

  2655. God

  2656. trust

  2657. that

  2658. even

  2659. your

  2660. unfavorable

  2661. circumstances

  2662. he

  2663. will

  2664. work

  2665. together

  2666. for

  2667. your

  2668. good

  2669. as

  2670. it

  2671. says

  2672. in

  2673. Romans

  2674. 8

  2675. 28

  2676. that

  2677. you

  2678. might

  2679. be

  2680. conformed

  2681. !

  2682. to

  2683. the

  2684. image

  2685. of

  2686. his

  2687. son

  2688. it

  2689. was

  2690. through

  2691. this

  2692. event

  2693. that

  2694. the

  2695. disciples

  2696. came

  2697. to

  2698. see

  2699. Jesus

  2700. as

  2701. the

  2702. tamer

  2703. of

  2704. the

  2705. sea

  2706. it

  2707. was

  2708. through

  2709. this

  2710. event

  2711. that

  2712. the

  2713. disciples

  2714. came

  2715. to

  2716. declare

  2717. that

  2718. Jesus

  2719. is

  2720. truly

  2721. the

  2722. son

  2723. of

  2724. God

  2725. all

  2726. the

  2727. headwinds

  2728. that

  2729. come

  2730. into

  2731. your

  2732. life

  2733. into

  2734. your

  2735. way

  2736. will

  2737. serve

  2738. to

  2739. magnify

  2740. Jesus

  2741. Christ

  2742. the

  2743. son

  2744. of

  2745. God

  2746. before

  2747. your

  2748. eyes

  2749. that

  2750. you

  2751. might

  2752. see

  2753. him

  2754. for

  2755. who

  2756. he

  2757. really

  2758. is

  2759. how

  2760. big

  2761. he

  2762. really

  2763. is

  2764. and

  2765. how

  2766. small

  2767. we

  2768. really

  2769. are

  2770. this

  2771. is

  2772. no

  2773. trite

  2774. platitude

  2775. it

  2776. is

  2777. a

  2778. profound

  2779. life

  2780. transforming

  2781. truth

  2782. if

  2783. you

  2784. believe

  2785. it

  2786. when

  2787. Jesus

  2788. comes

  2789. over

  2790. to

  2791. his

  2792. disciples

  2793. walking

  2794. on

  2795. the

  2796. sea

  2797. imagine

  2798. that

  2799. that's

  2800. they're

  2801. understandably

  2802. terrified

  2803. they cried

  2804. out in

  2805. fear

  2806. it's

  2807. a

  2808. ghost

  2809. but

  2810. Jesus

  2811. calms

  2812. them

  2813. in

  2814. verse

  2815. 27

  2816. take

  2817. heart

  2818. it

  2819. is

  2820. I

  2821. do

  2822. not

  2823. be

  2824. afraid

  2825. and

  2826. then

  2827. in

  2828. verse

  2829. 33

  2830. the

  2831. self

  2832. same

  2833. disciples

  2834. that

  2835. had

  2836. just

  2837. called

  2838. Jesus

  2839. a

  2840. ghost

  2841. starts

  2842. worshiping

  2843. him

  2844. saying

  2845. truly

  2846. you

  2847. are

  2848. the

  2849. son

  2850. of

  2851. God

  2852. how

  2853. does

  2854. that

  2855. dramatic

  2856. shift

  2857. happen

  2858. in

  2859. their

  2860. perception

  2861. of

  2862. Jesus

  2863. there

  2864. are

  2865. a

  2866. couple

  2867. things

  2868. first

  2869. walking

  2870. on

  2871. water

  2872. is

  2873. no

  2874. ordinary

  2875. miracle

  2876. because

  2877. in the

  2878. Old

  2879. Testament

  2880. only

  2881. God

  2882. is

  2883. described

  2884. as

  2885. walking

  2886. on

  2887. water

  2888. describing

  2889. how

  2890. God

  2891. split

  2892. the

  2893. Red

  2894. Sea

  2895. and

  2896. rescued

  2897. the

  2898. Israelites

  2899. at

  2900. the

  2901. Exodus

  2902. it

  2903. says

  2904. in

  2905. Psalm

    Psalms 77:19

  2906. 77

  2907. verse

  2908. 19

  2909. of

  2910. God

  2911. your

  2912. way

  2913. was

  2914. through

  2915. the

  2916. sea

  2917. your

  2918. path

  2919. through

  2920. the

  2921. great

  2922. waters

  2923. yet

  2924. your

  2925. footprints

  2926. were

  2927. unseen

  2928. and

  2929. here

  2930. if you

  2931. know

  2932. your

  2933. Bible

  2934. if you

  2935. know

  2936. Old

  2937. Testament

  2938. like

  2939. some

  2940. of

  3260. to

  3261. do

  3262. not

  3263. be

  3264. afraid

  3265. that's

  3266. the

  3267. exact

  3268. same

  3269. reason

  3270. why

  3271. God

  3272. revealed

  3273. his

  3274. name

  3275. to

  3276. Moses

  3277. in

  3282. do

  3286. I

  3291. I

  3292. am

  3293. who

  3294. I

  3297. when

  3298. we

  3299. are

  3300. afraid

  3301. when

  3302. we

  3303. feel

  3304. weak

  3305. and

  3306. inadequate

  3307. when

  3308. we're

  3309. facing

  3310. the

  3311. headwinds

  3312. of

  3313. life

  3314. when

  3315. God

  3316. sends

  3317. us

  3318. into

  3319. missions

  3320. and

  3321. situations

  3322. where

  3323. we

  3324. feel

  3325. our

  3326. deficiencies

  3327. keenly

  3328. God's

  3329. answer

  3330. is

  3331. always

  3332. this

  3333. it's

  3334. always

  3335. the

  3336. same

  3337. he

  3338. said

  3339. in

  3340. verse

  3341. 18

  3342. bring

  3343. them

  3344. to

  3345. me

  3349. 27

  3350. Jesus

  3351. says

  3352. I

  3353. am

  3354. it's

  3355. not

  3356. the

  3357. change

  3358. in

  3359. the

  3360. present

  3361. circumstances

  3362. that

  3363. should

  3365. our

  3366. souls

  3367. or

  3368. assure

  3369. us

  3370. but

  3371. it's

  3372. of

  3373. the

  3374. living

  3375. God

  3376. I

  3377. am

  3378. that

  3379. transforms

  3380. our

  3381. perspective

  3382. Peter's

  3383. experience

  3384. in

  3385. verses

  3386. 28

  3387. to

  3388. 31

  3389. serve

  3390. as

  3391. a

  3392. helpful

  3393. illustration

  3394. of

  3395. this

  3396. spiritual

  3397. reality

  3398. Peter

  3399. works

  3400. up the

  3401. courage

  3402. works

  3403. up his

  3404. faith

  3405. and he

  3406. answers

  3407. to

  3408. Jesus

  3409. Lord

  3410. if it

  3411. is

  3412. you

  3413. command

  3414. me

  3415. to

  3416. come

  3417. to

  3418. you

  3419. on

  3420. the

  3421. water

  3422. he

  3423. said

  3424. come

  3425. so

  3426. Peter

  3427. got

  3428. out

  3429. of

  3430. the

  3431. boat

  3432. and

  3433. walked

  3434. on

  3435. the

  3436. water

  3437. and

  3438. came

  3439. to

  3440. Jesus

  3441. but

  3442. when

  3443. he

  3444. saw

  3445. the

  3446. wind

  3447. he

  3448. was

  3449. afraid

  3450. and

  3451. beginning

  3452. to

  3453. sink

  3454. he

  3455. cried

  3456. out

  3457. Lord

  3458. save

  3459. me

  3460. Jesus

  3461. immediately

  3462. reached out

  3463. his hand

  3464. and took

  3465. hold of

  3466. him

  3467. saying

  3468. to

  3469. him

  3470. oh

  3471. you

  3472. of

  3473. little

  3474. faith

  3475. why

  3476. did

  3477. you

  3478. doubt

  3479. it's

  3480. so true

  3481. to our

  3482. experience

  3483. isn't

  3484. it

  3485. when we

  3486. fix

  3487. our

  3488. eyes

  3489. on

  3490. the

  3491. wind

  3492. when

  3493. we

  3494. fix

  3495. our

  3496. eyes

  3497. on

  3498. how

  3499. the

  3500. wind

  3501. in

  3502. our

  3503. lives

  3504. are

  3505. turning

  3506. up

  3507. the

  3508. sea

  3509. around

  3510. we

  3511. in

  3512. fact

  3516. that

  3520. like

  3521. a

  3522. refrain

  3523. that

  3524. occurs

  3525. again

  3526. and

  3528. throughout

  3529. the

  3530. gospel

  3531. of

  3532. Matthew

  3533. early

  3534. in

  3536. 630

  3564. clothe

  3565. you

  3566. oh

  3567. you

  3568. of

  3569. little

  3570. faith

  3571. again

  3572. in

  3573. Matthew

  3574. 8

  3581. in

  3582. the

  3587. why

  3591. oh

  3592. you

  3593. of

  3594. little

  3597. then

  3598. in

  3599. Matthew

  3600. 16

  3601. 8

  3602. Jesus

  3603. says

  3604. oh

  3605. you

  3606. of

  3607. little

  3609. why

  3610. are

  3611. you

  3612. discussing

  3613. among

  3615. the fact

  3616. that

  3617. you

  3618. have

  3619. no

  3620. bread

  3621. some

  3622. Christians

  3623. struggle

  3624. in their

  3625. Christian

  3626. walk

  3627. because

  3628. they

  3629. believe

  3630. they

  3631. have

  3632. such

  3633. little

  3634. faith

  3635. some

  3636. people

  3637. doubt

  3638. even

  3639. their

  3640. own

  3641. salvation

  3642. because

  3643. of

  3644. their

  3645. little

  3646. faith

  3647. I

  3648. have

  3649. such

  3650. little

  3651. faith

  3652. look

  3653. at

  3654. that

  3655. man

  3656. over

  3657. there

  3658. look

  3659. at

  3660. that

  3661. woman

  3662. over

  3663. there

  3664. they

  3665. have

  3666. great

  3667. faith

  3668. I

  3669. have

  3670. such

  3671. little

  3672. faith

  3673. am I

  3674. even

  3675. a

  3676. Christian

  3677. I

  3678. have

  3679. such

  3680. little

  3681. faith

  3682. and

  3683. my

  3684. obedience

  3685. is

  3686. so

  3687. meager

  3688. how

  3691. even

  3692. be

  3693. a

  3695. do

  3696. I

  3700. am

  3701. I

  3702. even

  3703. saved

  3704. I

  3705. just

  3706. want

  3707. to

  3708. remind

  3709. you

  3710. all

  3711. if you

  3712. are

  3713. like

  3716. morning

  3717. that

  3718. that

  3719. faith

  3720. is

  3721. something

  3722. that

  3723. grows

  3724. over

  3725. time

  3726. in

  3727. 2

  3728. Thessalonians

  3729. 1

  3730. 3

  3731. it says

  3732. we ought

  3734. give

  3735. thanks to

  3736. God

  3737. for your

  3738. brothers

  3739. as is

  3740. right

  3741. because

  3742. your

  3743. faith

  3744. is

  3745. growing

  3746. abundantly

  3747. and

  3748. the

  3749. love

  3750. and

  3751. the

  3752. love

  3753. of

  3754. every

  3755. one

  3756. of

  3757. you

  3758. for

  3759. one

  3760. another

  3761. is

  3762. increasing

  3763. your

  3764. faith

  3765. is

  3766. meant

  3767. to

  3768. be

  3769. growing

  3770. constantly

  3771. and

  3772. will

  3773. grow

  3774. and

  3775. grow

  3776. and

  3777. grow

  3778. until

  3779. the

  3780. day

  3781. we

  3782. die

  3783. other

  3784. passages

  3785. of

  3786. scriptures

  3787. speak

  3788. of

  3789. God

  3790. testing

  3791. our

  3792. faith

  3793. and

  3794. us

  3795. having

  3796. a

  3797. tested

  3798. genuineness

  3799. of

  3800. faith

  3801. in

  3802. our

  3803. lives

  3804. don't

  3805. be

  3806. disheartened

  3807. that

  3808. your

  3809. faith

  3810. is

  3811. little

  3812. even

  3813. the

  3814. apostles

  3815. started

  3816. exactly

  3817. there

  3818. when

  3819. their

  3820. faith

  3821. was

  3822. little

  3823. and

  3824. remember

  3825. that

  3826. it's

  3827. not

  3828. the

  3829. strength

  3830. of

  3831. our

  3832. faith

  3833. that

  3834. saves

  3835. us

  3836. but

  3837. the

  3838. strength

  3839. of

  3840. our

  3841. savior

  3842. Jesus

  3843. Christ

  3844. when

  3845. you

  3846. are

  3847. in

  3848. a

  3849. pit

  3850. of

  3851. the

  3852. debt

  3853. of

  3854. sin

  3855. and

  3856. then

  3857. you

  3858. in

  3859. faith

  3860. reach

  3861. out

  3862. your

  3863. hand

  3864. in

  3865. faith

  3866. ask

  3867. Jesus

  3868. to

  3869. save

  3870. you

  3871. it's

  3872. not

  3873. going

  3874. to

  3875. be

  3876. the

  3877. strength

  3878. of

  3879. your

  3880. grip

  3881. that

  3882. makes

  3883. sure

  3884. that

  3885. you

  3886. are

  3887. coming

  3888. out

  3889. of

  3890. that

  3891. pit

  3892. I

  3893. assure

  3894. you

  3895. it

  3896. is

  3897. the

  3898. almighty

  3899. hand

  3900. of

  3901. God

  3902. who

  3903. grabs

  3904. you

  3905. and

  3906. does

  3907. not

  3908. let

  3909. go

  3910. and

  3911. no

  3912. one

  3913. can

  3914. take

  3915. you

  3916. snatch

  3917. you

  3918. out

  3919. of

  3920. his

  3921. hand

  3922. so

  3923. brothers

  3924. and

  3925. sisters

  3926. remember

  3927. when

  3928. you

  3929. are

  3930. prone

  3931. to

  3932. doubt

  3933. when

  3934. you

  3935. are

  3936. discouraged

  3937. in

  3938. your

  3939. walk

  3940. with

  3941. God

  3942. don't

  3943. fix

  3944. your

  3945. eyes

  3946. on

  3947. the

  3948. unfinished

  3949. work

  3950. of

  3951. the

  3952. Holy

  3953. Spirit

  3954. in

  3955. giving

  3956. you

  3957. more

  3958. and

  3959. more

  3960. faith

  3961. that

  3962. work

  3963. will

  3964. continue

  3965. till

  3966. the

  3967. day

  3968. you

  3969. die

  3970. fix

  3971. your

  3972. eyes

  3973. on

  3974. the

  3975. finished

  3976. work

  3977. of

  3978. Jesus

  3979. Christ

  3980. on

  3981. the

  3982. cross

  3983. on

  3984. your

  3985. behalf

  3986. let

  3987. that

  3988. breathe

  3989. fresh

  3990. faith

  3991. into

  3992. your

  3993. life

  3994. let

  3995. that

  3996. help

  3997. you

  3998. to

  3999. persevere

  4000. and

  4001. strengthen

  4002. you

  4003. as you

  4004. roll

  4005. in your

  4006. head

  4007. winds

  4008. let's

  4009. pray

  4010. pray for

  4011. this

  4012. together

  4013. oh

  4014. God

  4015. we

  4016. delight

  4017. and

  4018. rejoice

  4019. and we

  4020. give

  4021. thanks

  4022. to

  4023. you

  4024. that

  4025. you

  4026. are

  4027. a

  4028. compassionate

  4029. God

  4030. thank

  4031. you

  4032. God

  4033. that

  4034. even

  4035. as

  4036. you

  4037. that

  4038. even

  4039. as

  4040. your

  4041. son

  4042. Jesus

  4043. chided

  4044. Peter

  4045. for

  4046. his

  4047. little

  4048. faith

  4049. he

  4050. didn't

  4051. leave

  4052. him

  4053. there

  4054. to

  4055. drown

  4056. or

  4057. cut

  4058. him

  4059. off

  4060. from

  4061. the

  4062. roster

  4063. of

  4064. your

  4065. twelve

  4066. apostles

  4067. no

  4068. you

  4069. grabbed

  4070. him

  4071. you

  4072. overcame

  4073. his

  4074. little

  4075. faith

  4076. you

  4077. overcame

  4078. his

  4079. doubt

  4080. and

  4081. so

  4082. you

  4083. have

  4084. done

  4085. for

  4086. all

  4087. of

  4088. us

  4089. over

  4090. and

  4091. over

  4092. again

  4093. because

  4094. you

  4095. are

  4096. a

  4097. compassionate

  4098. God

  4099. so

  4100. Lord

  4101. we do

  4102. believe

  4103. help

  4104. our

  4105. unbelief

  4106. increase

  4107. our

  4108. faith

  4109. increase

  4110. our

  4111. love

  4112. increase

  4113. our

  4114. hope

  4115. in

  4116. you

  4117. every

  4118. day

  4119. that

  4120. until

  4121. that

  4122. day

  4123. when

  4124. all

  4125. will

  4126. see

  4127. Jesus

  4128. is

  4129. the

  4130. great

  4131. I

  4132. am

  4133. and

  4134. confess

  4135. his

  4136. name

  4137. and

  4138. bow

  4139. their

  4140. knee

  4141. before

  4142. him

  4143. in

  4144. Jesus

  4145. name

  4146. we

  4147. pray

  4148. amen
