  1. If you have your Bible go ahead and open to Genesis chapter 3.

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  2. Genesis chapter 3 as well. World will get rolling today.

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  3. We are currently in the series called Advent, I kind of got

  4. over this each week but Advent means coming and what we're

  5. looking at specifically is the first coming of Christ we're

  6. reflecting on it. We're looking at Old Testament

  7. passages on it, with it predicted it.

  8. We're going to get into some Old Testament today.

  9. Some new testament also to see how Christ has fulfilled.

  10. I'll promise that was made Long Ago by the father.

  11. And and so I'm excited to share these things with you today.

  12. And what we're saying is that for unto us, God has come.

  13. This is what we're saying with Advent.

  14. And as we look at the first Advent, we have in mind the

  15. second ad in Christ will return again to gather his people.

  16. Amen, it returned and gather his people.

  17. We Judgment of the living and the dead, according to the

  18. righteousness of Christ. Those found in Christ will rise

  19. to eternal life. Those not found in Christ will

  20. be eternally condemned and so this is a message that matters

  21. for all eternity. This is a truth that matters for

  22. your life. It matters for the lives of your

  23. neighbors. It matters for the lives of your

  24. friends, your family. This the story matters, right?

  25. For all eternity and so Want to get into that today before we

  26. do. Let me pray for us.

  27. Heavenly Father, we thank you for your word.

  28. Got to thank you that your word is good and right, that's true.

  29. That it doesn't fell us. That that in its are everything

  30. sufficient for life and salvation and godliness.

  31. And father we come to your word. Today is those who are in need

  32. we don't come as those who have things figured out, we don't

  33. come as those who I feel like we might educate you about

  34. something father. But we need to be educated by

  35. you. We need to be trained by you.

  36. We need to be equipped by you. And father, your word promises

  37. and second Timothy to do exactly that.

  38. And so father, we thank you that we're here today.

  39. We thank you that we have this opportunity to hear from your

  40. word God. I'm but a man finites.

  41. Unable Lord to save anyone by my work and so I lean on the power

  42. of your word. Today, I trust your word to be

  43. sufficient and the lives of my heroes this morning of your

  44. people and maybe those who are yet to be your people.

  45. Father, would you speak today? It's in Christ's name.

  46. We pray these prayers. Amen.

  47. Amen. So what we've said, thus far in

  48. this series by way of very brief recap, is we've described a God

  49. who is unlike all others He's unlike all others and one of the

  50. big ways that God is unlike all the others.

  51. One of the the most important way actually is that God is

  52. Triune. He's three persons in one God,

  53. there is one Essence to God and three persons.

  54. And so in week one, we talked about that I'm not I'm not going

  55. to go back down that road too far.

  56. If you want to hear that sermon, it's available.

  57. What we talked about how he's eternally Triune, what this

  58. means is that God is able to be self existent.

  59. He's not dependent upon any one or anything for life.

  60. He's able to exist completely and himself, and he's all

  61. sufficient, which means he has everything he needs for life.

  62. God is not in wants, God is Not lacking, something, God has all

  63. that he needs, he is all sufficient.

  64. And weak to what we saw is that he's the creator of Heaven and

  65. Earth and everything else that exists, God created all things

  66. and at the end of Creation in Genesis chapter 1, we read that

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  67. he says it is very good, it's very good creation.

  68. And what we talked about last week is that he did this out of

  69. the Overflow of his own love, an overflow of Love, which was

  70. being experienced already within the godhead within the Trinity.

  71. The father loving the Sun, by the spirit.

  72. Sun, loving the father by the spirit.

  73. And this is what. Michael Reaves, author of

  74. delighting in the Trinity says about this.

  75. God, he says, how radically different Well he says how

  76. radically an overwhelmingly difference is the god of the

  77. Bible, he's not needy, he's not solitary and he's not selfish.

  78. He says he goes on to say but he is Bountiful He is loving and he

  79. is self-giving at the very heart of who he is.

  80. This is who God is, and who God has created a perfect world, a

  81. very good world. and he's place, man and woman in the garden and

  82. he's given them the command to be fruitful to multiply To fill

  83. the Earth to exercise Dominion to subdue all creation.

  84. And that was their purpose. Adam was created to work and

  85. keep the garden that the, by his working, by his, keeping the

  86. garden would flourish into all the Earth.

  87. It would be cultivated it would be protected.

  88. And so that the glory of God would spread throughout

  89. creation. This would happen with his

  90. marriage and what happened in the work that he put his hands

  91. to, it would happen in parenting, it would happen as

  92. Generations came from Adam and Eve.

  93. And Eve was created to be a help meet for Adam.

  94. To be a helper by his side. This is why she was created from

  95. the side of man to be nearer to him.

  96. To be in conjunction with him as Adam exclaims, bone of his bone,

  97. flesh of his flesh, they were like and every way yet

  98. distinctly different as one was a man, one was a woman and the

  99. so the roles were different but complementary and they were to

  100. help one another and exercising Dominion subduing, the Earth.

  101. and so God places them into the garden and and then he gives a

  102. command to Adam And he says, you may eat of every tree of the

  103. garden except this one tree, which is the tree of knowledge

  104. of Good and Evil. It says you shall not eat of it.

  105. In fact, in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.

  106. And so Adam and Eve were put into the garden.

  107. They're given a command one. They're given a blessing to be

  108. fruitful multiply fill the Earth.

  109. Exercise! Dominion subdue all creation.

  110. And then they'll give it a command, do not eat of this

  111. tree, but every other tree is yours. in the garden was also

  112. the Tree of Life, which was theirs for the taking And in

  113. Genesis chapter 3 were introduced to another character

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  114. look at Genesis 3:1. Now, the serpent was more crafty

    Genesis 3:1

  115. than any other Beast of a field that the Lord God had made.

  116. And he said to the woman, Did God actually say you shall not

  117. eat of any tree in the garden? And the woman said to the

  118. serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden but

  119. God said You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in

  120. the midst of the garden. Neither shall you?

  121. Touch it, lest you die. I want you to notice something

  122. here about the way. The enemy works.

  123. Well the enemy still works today the way we see the world doing

  124. this, even now it's questioning what has God said.

  125. Did God actually say that you shall eat of none of the trees?

  126. On Genesis chapter 2. We see that's not at all what

    Genesis 2 chapter mention

  127. God Said and evening that's not what God Said.

  128. But she adds to the command of God, at least from what we

  129. understand. She says, neither shall you

  130. touch it, lest you die. And so the serpent says to the

  131. woman continuing to get her to doubt the goodness of God her

  132. Creator. He says you will not surely die.

  133. How many have ever been on maybe in the heat?

  134. The heat of Temptation. You know, the heat of Temptation

  135. where your you're overwhelmed by?

  136. This filling to do something. That's contrary to what God's

  137. word says and you know, God's word as a Believer, you know

  138. what, the Lord has said. and in those moments you find yourself,

  139. did God actually say, if I do this, will I really Well, I

  140. really die. Will I really be separated?

  141. And so you start to finagle a b with God, you start to tamper

  142. with his words, soften the blow of your sin and this is exactly

  143. what the enemy is doing here. You will not surely die for.

  144. God knows that when you eat of it or as 5, your eyes will be

  145. opened. And you will be like, God

  146. knowing good and evil. You're not surely going to die.

  147. In fact, you'll become like, God, And so what God is doing is

  148. trying to keep you down, he's trying to keep you from being

  149. like himself. And then we read.

  150. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, she

  151. looks at it. She sees that it's good for

  152. food. It was the Delight to her eyes

  153. again Temptations. Rarely probably never.

  154. Something that's not a delight to your own eyes to your own

  155. desires. And that the tree was to be

  156. desired. To make one wise, she took of

  157. its fruit and ate and she also gave some to her husband who was

  158. with her and he ate so Adams there.

  159. He's not keeping the garden to keep means to protect. to keep

  160. out that which goes against what God has commanded that, which

  161. goes against what God Has given them as a blessing to do.

  162. He's not protecting his bride. Adam is passive.

  163. And here we see the first of the two sins.

  164. That man, a man is most prone to one is passivity. men are prone

  165. to be passive to just let things go, especially spiritual things

  166. to not be concerned about the health of a marriage, the health

  167. of their own hearts, their own walk with the Lord even It's

  168. just not a big deal. They're more concerned with the

  169. minion work. Putting their hands to something

  170. getting their hands dirty, which is not bad.

  171. This is what they're created for.

  172. And then we see. In the curse here in the moment.

  173. The second sin, that man is prone to is to exercise dominion

  174. and a domineering fashion. And so we have Eve here

  175. questioning Now, to the point of she has taken hold of the fruit.

  176. She's eating it. She's given her some to her

  177. husband who is now eating. It also an in verse 7.

  178. It says both of their eyes were opened and they knew that they

  179. were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made

  180. themselves loin cloths. And they heard the sound of the

  181. Lord Walking In The Garden, in the cool of the day and the man

  182. and his wife, hid themselves from the presence of the Lord

  183. God Among the Trees of the garden, but the Lord God Called

  184. To The Man and said to him, where are you?

  185. As if God doesn't know, right? And he said, I heard the sound

  186. of you in the garden. And I was afraid, because I was

  187. naked and I hid myself. He said who told you that you

  188. were naked. Have you eaten up the tree of

  189. which I commanded you not to eat.

  190. This is the this is the result of sin.

  191. This is what sin does, every single time it fills you with.

  192. Guilt, it fills you with shame, it robs you of your innocence.

  193. It exposes you. And rather than run to their

  194. creator. Runs to the one who might make

  195. all things right, they hid from him.

  196. How often do we do that in our sinned?

  197. We do we not go to the Lord in prayer.

  198. We not quick to repent because we see God not as a benevolent,

  199. father, but more as a distant dictator.

  200. A distant God who wants nothing to do with the sinfulness of

  201. man. And so he hides himself for men

  202. as our understanding of this and we must hide ourselves from him.

  203. And the man said to God, after he said, have you eaten of this

  204. tree? The man said, the woman whom you

  205. gave to be with me. She gave me fruit, the fruit of

  206. the tree and I ate she gave me right?

  207. Again, this is a another result of sin, a failure to take

  208. responsibility. A desire to blame someone else

  209. for your failures for your sins again, this is passivity Adam is

  210. not wanting to take responsibility for his own life.

  211. He's been dealt a bad hand. God, the Lord the woman.

  212. You gave me caused me to do this.

  213. It's your fault. God.

  214. And then that you need to pay attention to this because and

  215. women also. But men we were prone to this We

  216. are prone to blame people. I believe, blame our fathers.

  217. Blame our parents for the raising we had, we didn't get

  218. the opportunities that everyone else got.

  219. We didn't learn the things that others got to learn, maybe we

  220. blame. The life we had.

  221. We blame a teacher, a coach. A boss.

  222. A woman. Take responsibility for your own

  223. actions. This is Godly.

  224. And so the Lord said to the woman, what is this?

  225. That you have done in the woman said, the serpent deceived me.

  226. And I ate And so, Adam and Eve were here and they are now about

  227. to hear the curse in the day of eat you eat of it, you will

  228. surely die. They're going to hear what the

  229. curse is. And so the Lord God says to the

  230. serpent because you have done this verse 14.

  231. Cursed, are you above all livestock and above all Beasts

  232. of the field on your belly? You shall go and dust.

  233. You shall eat all the days of your life.

  234. And then in verse 15, he says I will put enmity between you and

  235. the woman and between your Offspring and her Offspring.

  236. He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel.

  237. If you're in the underlining or circling or highlighting versus

  238. Genesis 3:15, is one you need to highlight underline Circle

    Genesis 3:15

  239. something. So what theologians call the

  240. protoevangelium? It's a fancy word for the first

  241. announcement of good news. This is the first time you see

  242. the gospel. Announcement made in Scripture

  243. that there will be one born. There will be one born who will

  244. crush your head. You Wiley Serpent and you might

  245. bruise his heel but you'll be dealt the deathblow.

  246. And so to the woman, he says, I will surely multiply your pain

  247. and childbearing. So ladies not that there wasn't

  248. already pain, it's just been multiplied in pain, you shall

  249. bring forth children, And your desire shall be contrary to your

  250. husband, but he shall rule over you. this is where we have the

  251. really the introduction of marriage strife.

  252. A woman Desiring. The role of her husband.

  253. Wanting her role for his role for herself, wanting to be the

  254. leader wanting to be the head. And then we have the husband's

  255. response. Is domineering rule.

  256. He shall rule over you. These are fractures.

  257. These are not, this is a result of the fall.

  258. This is not the way God established things in Genesis

    Genesis 2 chapter mention

  259. chapter 2. And then in verse 17, he speaks

  260. to Adam, he says to Adam because you have listened to the voice

  261. of your wife and you have eaten of the tree of which I commanded

  262. you saying you shall not eat of it.

  263. Cursed is the ground because of you in pain, you shall eat of it

  264. all the days of your life thorns and thistles it shall bring

  265. forth for you. And you shall eat the plants of

  266. the field by the sweat of your face.

  267. You shall eat bread till you return to the ground for out of

  268. it. You were taken for.

  269. You are dust, and to dust you shall return.

  270. And so we see the infusion here of difficulty in work, work was

  271. always a part of creation. Men were always going to be

  272. working and keeping this is Who We Are.

  273. But now there's thorns and thistles and our work parenting

  274. is laborious. It's difficult.

  275. Marriage is hard. Learning to love a sinner from

  276. now until the end of your life is not an easy thing to do as a

  277. fellow sinner. Work the work.

  278. You put your hands to is hard. It's difficult.

  279. It feels fruitless at times and what you see here is that you

  280. are dust And to dust you shall return.

  281. It's a reminder of the fragility of life, that life is, but a

  282. vapor as James puts it. The psalmist says it's here.

  283. One day and gone. The next you're like a flower

  284. being blown away in the Wind and now in Genesis 320, we have the

  285. man and woman in her acting again, the man called his wife's

  286. name, Eve, because she was the mother of all living, What's

  287. interesting about this is, this is pronouncement of Hope.

  288. Adam has understood something from the curse on the serpent

  289. about life. Eve will be the mother of all

  290. living that through her will come one who brings life.

  291. Again, there is death but there will be life.

  292. And the Lord God Made For Adam and for his wife, garments of

  293. skins and clothed them. Before the fall, there was no

  294. death. There were no animal skins.

  295. Post-fall there's death. There's animal skins available.

  296. But think further about what being closed by God might later

  297. look like in Christ. You were clothed in the

  298. righteousness of God. Amen.

  299. Naked in your sin clothed in the righteousness of Christ.

  300. Jesus. I'll talk more about that as we

  301. go. then the Lord God said, Among himself among the godhead.

  302. Now, the godhead is talking. The man has become like one of

  303. us in knowing good and evil. Now list he reached out his hand

  304. and take also of the tree of life and eat and live forever.

  305. And then, it's thought Just Brakes.

  306. And I think part of it is because, as we looked at last

  307. week, both in Sunday school, and in here, is Humanity as the

  308. crown jewel of God's creation. Amen.

  309. Humanity is the only thing that was created in the image and

  310. likeness of God. And now what God sees is that

  311. humanity is fractured It's broken.

  312. The image is broken. And he says, less they eat of

  313. the Tree of Life. And live forever.

  314. There must be something done, it's too much.

  315. Too great for God to bear that the crown jewel of creation

  316. would live in their sins forever more.

  317. And so, in verse 23 says, therefore, the Lord God sent him

  318. out from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he

  319. was taken, and he drove out the man and at the east of the

  320. Garden of Eden, he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword

  321. that turned every way to guard the way to the Tree of Life.

  322. Mankind is separated from God. It's the result of sin and

  323. death. Now embarking on a new life

  324. outside. The fruitful Garden guarded from

  325. the Tree of Life. but in Christ, there would be another tree.

  326. A tree that Christ would hang on which we which would lead to

  327. life for all who trust in the Lord.

  328. This is what we read about Mankind and Romans, 3:10 through

  329. 18 Mankind in his Fallen state that says as it is written, none

  330. is righteous. No not one, no one understands.

  331. No one seeks. God all have turned aside

  332. together they have become worthless.

  333. No one does good. Not even one.

  334. Their throat is an open grave. That use their tongues to

  335. deceive the Venom of asps is under their lips.

  336. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.

  337. Their feet are Swift to shed blood in their paths are ruin,

  338. and misery. And the way of peace.

  339. They have not known. There is no fear of God before

  340. their eyes. Paul is using the profits to

  341. describe mankind who is now full of Decay and destruction and

  342. death. And Romans 5:12, we read about

    Romans 5:12

  343. our own guilt for Adam sin. How is it that mankind by his

  344. nature? Is sinful. it is therefore, just

  345. as Sin came into the world through one, man and death

  346. through sin, and so death, spread to all men, because all

  347. sinned, That spread to all men because all sinned.

  348. So You and I by our very Nature by both birth and action are

  349. sinful. We're guilty of sin.

  350. You can run through the Ten Commandments if you're familiar

  351. with even just a few of them. You'll see yourself very quickly

  352. as a sinner. So the question becomes.

  353. If there's a promise in Genesis 3:15 for the serpent to be

    Genesis 3:15

  354. crushed, yet, man, is now separated from God.

  355. The question is, then how is mankind going to attain

  356. Redemption from their sins? How do we take, hold of

  357. Redemption? How do we take hold of life

  358. again, if we are Death. If we were walking corpses,

  359. spiritually speaking. This is where things for me get

  360. really. Enlightening, I think.

  361. If you survey. Most of at least the popular

  362. more thought of world religions. They have a monotheistic God,

  363. which we have a monotheistic God, but their God is more of a

  364. Taskmaster. Their God is demanding.

  365. Their God is Not benevolence. There is no Grace and the god of

  366. other religions. And to gain salvation to gain

  367. Redemption. You, they do have that.

  368. This tells us that what we read in Genesis 3 is true.

  369. One of one of the ways we can do this is apologetically speaking

  370. is just by looking at other religions other religions have a

  371. way to Salvation. They all understand that you are

  372. broken and that you're in need of rescue.

  373. There's a Plan of Salvation and all other religions.

  374. Here's a few examples and Judaism, you must obey the law

  375. and the customs of the Old Testament.

  376. Perfectly, you must keep the law.

  377. We read about this a lot as we preach through the New Testament

  378. passages when they were judaizers present.

  379. In the first century church has false teachers, Paul calls them

  380. and Islam. Muslims must maintain the Five

  381. Pillars successfully which are all based on Works similar to

  382. keeping the law. In Buddhism, you must fully

  383. renounce yourself before you can reach nirvana.

  384. This is a kind of state of Salvation.

  385. You must fully renounce yourself.

  386. You must deny yourself. In Hinduism, the individual must

  387. purify himself from evil in life.

  388. After Life, After Life, After Life.

  389. Until maybe you become a cow. This is salvation in Hinduism.

  390. Reincarnated over and over again.

  391. Maybe as a person, maybe a, some other created thing.

  392. So that you can. Renounce yourself and Life After

  393. Life, After Life, deny your sins, try to live perfectly. so,

  394. these religions do nothing about a God who is loving I know

  395. nothing about a God who is merciful, they know nothing

  396. about a God, who is filled with grace toward his people

  397. salvation for them is dependent upon, man and not God.

  398. And if you look at some of the other great religions out there,

  399. atheism is a religion. Agnosticism is a religion.

  400. There's still filled with works. Salvation.

  401. However, In the Christian God is based upon the work of the

  402. Triune. God, a work that man cannot

  403. accomplish. It's not not the work of you and

  404. I not even in our faith. It, there's no work that we can

  405. do to achieve salvation and that's really bad news.

  406. It seems except that our God is full of grace and mercy for all

  407. who humble themselves and turn to him.

  408. And so in Philippians 2, 6 and 8, the Apostle Paul describing

  409. the kind of mind you ought to have about yourself as you dwell

  410. together in the church, says some amazing things.

  411. About Christ. The second member of the

  412. Trinity, the Son of God, this is what he says.

  413. He's telling them have this mind of Christ in you.

  414. And then in verse 6, he says who, though?

  415. He was in the form of God, meaning he was of the essence of

  416. God. He had the full deity of God.

  417. He did not count equality with God.

  418. A thing to be grasped. In other words, he didn't count

  419. equality with God, a thing to be exploited.

  420. You know, who exploited a desire to be equal with God Satan.

  421. And Jesus says I saw him from eternity past fall.

  422. To the Earth. It wasn't that he just fell.

  423. He was cast out. But we read about Christ that he

  424. was in the form of God. He had the essence of God, he

  425. doesn't count the equality with God.

  426. A thing to be exploited, to be grassed, to be maintained, but

  427. he empties himself. but taking the form of a servant being born

  428. in the likeness of men, And being bound being found sorry in

  429. human form. He humbled himself by becoming

  430. obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

  431. Now what we see here is that Christ, this is the Incarnation

  432. being described. We talk about the Incarnation,

  433. we're talking about the second member of the Trinity not having

  434. a body not existing, like he does in the Incarnation.

  435. This is what makes the birth of Christ.

  436. So fantastic is that. God becomes man.

  437. But he's fully God and fully man.

  438. This is not saying that he emptied himself of his godness.

  439. He said, he emptied himself of the glories of Heaven.

  440. Temporarily. Taking on the form of a servant

  441. being born in the likeness of men.

  442. Being found in human form obedient to the father to the

  443. point of death, even death on a cross.

  444. And so what we see is that while the gods of other religions, sit

  445. back like an evil ruler and they're waiting to be served by

  446. Man without any promise of salvation.

  447. What was no guarantee that, you'll be rescued, they're

  448. waiting to be served. We have the god of the Bible,

  449. the creator of Heaven and Earth, the Triune God, stepping into

  450. the Fallen were laying aside, the glory of Heaven taking on

  451. the form of man. He's a servant as Isaiah says

  452. who will suffer in chapter 53. In Christ obeys, the father to

  453. the point of death on a cross. So that God might finally save

  454. his people from their sins. Romans 3 describes the salvation

  455. for us. It says that the purpose of this

  456. is so that God mode can be both just and justifier someone had

  457. to die. This is why the Old Testament

  458. sacrificial system was in place, but there would be no end.

  459. Hebrew says to the sacrifice of bulls and goats Because there

  460. would be no end to sin. And less.

  461. There's a lamb of God sent Christ.

  462. Sent to die for our sins. It's a story that's long

  463. foretold, it starts in Genesis 3:15, and The Narrative of the

    Genesis 3:15

  464. Old Testament is leading to the coming of Christ Jesus.

  465. In the gospels, it's the point of all that you read in the Old

  466. Testament. Jesus Christ is on every page of

  467. the Old Testament, not those words specifically. but his

  468. image, Because his word points to him.

  469. That's why Christ after his death and Resurrection.

  470. He joins the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.

  471. And what does he do for them? He explains to them all the law

  472. and the prophets concerning himself.

  473. He opens their eyes to see that scriptures pointed to his

  474. coming. It was always about him.

  475. It's always about who he is. It's well-documented, my friends

  476. that the mission of Christ Jesus, the mission of the Son of

  477. God was to save Sinners by God's marvelous Grace.

  478. That what the first Adam failed to do the second Adam does

  479. perfectly In Matthew 1:18, 20 through 25.

    Matthew 1:18

  480. We have the announcement of the birth of Christ.

  481. Matthew writes here, he says, now the birth of Jesus Christ

  482. Place in this way. When his mother Mary had been

  483. betrothed to Joseph before they came together, she was found to

  484. be with child from the Holy Spirit and her husband.

  485. Joseph being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame

  486. resolved to divorce her quietly. He's like, oh my goodness, it's

  487. woman. I'm engaged to has not been

  488. pure. She has someone else's child but

  489. I don't want to embarrass her. And so you see the Integrity of

  490. the man? But as he considered these

  491. things behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream

  492. saying Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your

  493. wife for that, which is conceived in her, is from the

  494. Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you

  495. shall call his name, Jesus. By listening to this for, he

  496. will save his people from their sins.

  497. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken.

  498. By the prophet. Behold, the Virgin shall

  499. conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name

  500. Emmanuel, which means god with us.

  501. Thank you in verse 24. When Joseph awoke from sleep, he

  502. did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and he took his

  503. wife, but he knew her not until she had given birth to a son and

  504. he called his name, Jesus. What an astounding revelation?

  505. Concerning Christ. Jesus Christ, Son of God

  506. incarnate deity. Come to save God's people from

  507. their sins by his own life. There is own death and

  508. Resurrection. And if you'll believe, if you'll

  509. trust the Lord for the Salvation of your sins, trust that his

  510. work is the finished work trust. That salvation is found only in

  511. him. Then you too can be saved.

  512. I love these words from a rider named Frederick buechner.

  513. The word became flesh, ultimate mystery born with a skull.

  514. You could crush one handed Incarnation.

  515. It is not tame. It is not touching.

  516. It is not beautiful. It is uninhabitable Terror.

  517. It is Unthinkable. Darkness Riven with unbearable

  518. lights agonize. Laboring led to it.

  519. Vast upheavals of Intergalactic space and time split apart a

  520. wrenching and tearing of the very sinews of reality itself.

  521. You can only cover your eyes and shutter before it before this,

  522. God of God, light of Lies. Very God of very God who for us.

  523. And for our Salvation as the Nicene Creed puts it came down

  524. from heaven for unto us, God Has Come amen. and when God by his

  525. mercy, and God by his love, and his grace, when he saves

  526. someone, When God Saves you, you are united to Christ.

  527. Jesus, the Incarnate deity and Ephesians 2:10, the Apostle

    Ephesians 2:10

  528. explains what happens. I briefly mentioned this last

  529. week, but it's mention it again. For we are his workmanship

  530. created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared

  531. beforehand that we should walk in them.

  532. The fall fractures. Good works.

  533. The false stains Humanity. The fall brings death spiritual

  534. death. But when you come to Christ

  535. Jesus for the Salvation of your sins, when you come to Christ

  536. Jesus by faith in him alone, you are a new creation in Christ,

  537. old things, pass away, All Things become new, and in that

  538. way. God is saying here in Ephesians

    Ephesians 2:10

  539. 2:10. You are his workmanship, you

  540. were my workmanship. I have recreated you in Christ

  541. Jesus. Do do good works.

  542. You see the difference? Our God is unlike all others for

  543. them. Good works, is your only hope

  544. for salvation but still, no guarantee for us.

  545. Good works. As a result of our Salvation,

  546. it's mint. to exercise Dominion to be fruitful and multiply It's

  547. meant to subdue creation. It's meant to spread the glory

  548. of Christ into all the world. Redeeming the fall.

  549. Until one day Christ makes all things new at his return,

  550. Christians brothers and sisters. You are the workmanship of God

  551. you have been saved completely by his work.

  552. You've not been saved by your own doing.

  553. And if God has recreated you in Christ Jesus, even you are

  554. united together with Christ for eternity, free from sin and

  555. death. Able to put it to death by the

  556. power of the spirit. It's a book about John Owen,

  557. called communion with the Triune God.

  558. It's a wonderful work. There's a little bit modernized

  559. version of it, which is edited by a guy named Kelly Catholic.

  560. and this is what he summarizes about one of the points in this

  561. book, about the union of Christ, the union with Christ that

  562. Believers know, This is, this Union is a unilateral action by

  563. God, which means it's not dependent upon you.

  564. It's not a bilateral, its unilateral In which those who

  565. were dead or Made Alive, those who lived in darkness, begin to

  566. see lights, those who were enslaved to sin are set free to

  567. be loved. And to love when one speaks of

  568. Union with Christ, it must be clear that the human person is

  569. merely receptive. He is the object of God's

  570. gracious action. And this is the state and

  571. condition of all true Saints. Brothers and sisters live as

  572. though. You serve a God who is unlike

  573. all other gods. You're free from sin live.

  574. A holy life, do good works but not to attain salvation For,

  575. that would be to serve a god, like their God.

  576. Serve God because he saved you serve him because you love him.

  577. Love others because He commands you to do.

  578. Good works to spread the fruitfulness of Christ, The

  579. Glory of Christ and to all the nations into all the Earth, and

  580. if that seems too daunting, I think about this as we think

  581. about Matthew, 28, to go into all the nations.

  582. It's like how got one life God you know my bank account.

  583. It's hard to leave my family for more than a few days at a time.

  584. Like I'm, I going to go into all the Earth.

  585. Christ was not making a command to one specific disciple.

  586. Amen. Christ is making a command to

  587. all his disciples that wherever you are.

  588. Go into the Earth and Make Disciples of Christ, Jesus start

  589. in your home, parents Make Disciples of your children.

  590. Starting your marriage. Like Disciples of your spouse.

  591. Encourage discipleship, find others to disciple.

  592. Be a part of a local body, get discipled so that you might

  593. disciple in return. Spread the glory of Christ and

  594. to all the World by doing exactly what God's called you to

  595. do, live a new life in Christ. Wherever you're at?

  596. You don't have to change jobs necessarily betting on what you

  597. do for a living and I'm going to keep slinging drugs, right?

  598. It's God's. Not going to let you do that.

  599. but wherever you're at, God has given you the ability to be

  600. fruitful and multiply fill the Earth.

  601. For the glory of Christ Jesus, not our own glory.

  602. Amen. Would you stand to your feet

  603. this morning? Going to sing a song.

  604. And I think the song is perfect. For a time of response.

  605. The song is called yet. Not I, but through Christ.

  606. In me. and so, whether you're a Believer or not, our, let's

  607. start this way, as Believers, what we are saying is yet, not

  608. I, but through Christ in me, And all things yet.

  609. Not I but through Christ in me. And so you may be guilty this

  610. morning of some of the things I've talked about passivity.

  611. Have you have allowed the enemy to come into your camp?

  612. to tempt you with unrighteousness, to tempt you

  613. with sin that you might fall, And so you need to repent today.

  614. You need to confess your sins to the Lord.

  615. Trust in his grace to save you. trust in his grace to train, you

  616. ask the Holy Spirit to help you out of that.

  617. But you might crucify the Flesh and live by the spirit of God.

  618. And if you're an unbeliever today, Questioning unsure,

  619. skeptical. I'd be a mocker even the same is

  620. true for you. You will not achieve salvation

  621. on your own. And whether you believe it or

  622. not, you will stand before the Lord on the day of judgment.

  623. And you will not utter one accusation against him.

  624. Not one because in all his ways, he's righteous.

  625. And in all your ways, your unrighteous And so you two need

  626. to humble yourself and say yet not I but through Christ save me

  627. from my sins today. Let me pray for you.

  628. Father, we love you got a, thank you for your word.

  629. I thank you for this moment. We have now to respond to you at

  630. your word, Holy Spirit. Would you lead us now to help us

  631. to respond in the right way? Grant us wisdom?

  632. Heavenly father, I asked you. Will you save by your grace

  633. anyone in here? Who is far from you?

  634. Did you lead those to repentance who are yours?

  635. But who have strayed by your grace also?

  636. or today we say yet, not I but through Christ, we thank you

  637. that you are a god unlike all others That you've stepped into

  638. darkness. But you might grant us,

  639. Marvelous Light. Help us to believe in Jesus

  640. Christ today. Help us to trust him for our

  641. Salvation. Help us to trust him for our

  642. growth, in Holiness, our growth in godliness, Help us to spread

  643. the name of Christ, into all the Earth, starting in our homes,

  644. and our friendships and our workplaces.

  645. I'm a social media accounts wherever you've given us

  646. influence wherever you've placed us help us to have the name of

  647. Christ Jesus on our lives, the good news.

  648. Father we love you we thank you for the Incarnation of your son.

  649. I thought he was God of very God.

  650. He became like us that he might die for our sins.

  651. We trust you for that, we trust you for salvation in Christ

  652. name, I pray. Amen.

  653. I thought he was God of very God.

  654. He became like us that he might die for our sins.

  655. We trust you for that, we trust you for salvation in Christ

  656. name, I pray. Amen.
