  1. You have your Bible like for you to open it to habakkuk chapter 1

    Habakkuk 1 chapter mention

  2. habakkuk chapter 1. You may think what is habakkuk?

    Habakkuk 1 chapter mention

  3. It sounds like a loogie or the noise you make right before you

  4. spit. It's it's it's true.

  5. It does habakkuk is found in the Minor Prophets which is toward

  6. the end of your Old Testament. It's after noon a home and

  7. before Zephaniah. Again may be equally unhelpful,

  8. I don't know, but I'm feeling a bit of extra energy today this

  9. First time to preach in three weeks.

  10. So you guys are really in for it today.

  11. I apologize, but I'm happy to be here.

  12. It's good to see you guys. I greatly miss being with you

  13. last week. James, thank you once again for

  14. stepping in and unfortunate circumstance.

  15. And for preaching the word brother, it means a lot.

  16. It's good to see you guys here today.

  17. I hope your families are well habakkuk chapter one.

  18. So there's a few things too. To talk about with the back,

  19. I'll give you a little bit now and then I'll Prairie and I'll

  20. give you a little bit more, but habakkuk is a an unusual

  21. prophetic book. As we know, prophetic books,

  22. usually prophetic books are written to the people of God to

  23. tell something that God has spoken to them.

  24. Now back is, is similar. God does tell habakkuk to write

  25. down these oracle's write down, what you've seen, what you've

  26. heard, but in habakkuk, we never see the people direct address

  27. directly. Polly instead, it's a

  28. conversation between habakkuk and God.

  29. And what habakkuk is doing, is he's questioning God, he's

  30. questioning specifically, God's action or maybe even more

  31. specifically the inaction of God, where, where are you?

  32. God? And so, the outline of a bacchic

  33. is really simple to follow. It's only three chapters.

  34. It's broken into three sections. If you have a study Bible or

  35. something, it probably lays those out for you.

  36. Are you they almost follow the chapter headings perfectly but

  37. not quite what? We see in habakkuk are two

  38. complaints and the prayer. The first complaint, there's two

  39. complaints from habakkuk, there's two answers from God and

  40. then there's a prayer and in the end and so habakkuk, first

  41. complaint is what we'll be looking at today where habakkuk

  42. is essentially asking God where are you In the middle of all of

  43. this. And then God responds with a

  44. response that I don't think, oh, back.

  45. It was ready for. And so habakkuk, complains

  46. again, why are you doing this or how could you do this?

  47. Why would you do this and God responds again and then

  48. habakkuk, praise to God. The book of habakkuk teaches us

  49. that the righteous live by faith or specifically what God says,

  50. is that the righteous shall live by his faith?

  51. It's a verse that the Apostle Paul uses three different times

  52. in the New Testament, all in different letters to different

  53. groups of people, and all reinforcing and different idea

  54. about what the faith of the righteous is the first time.

  55. Paul uses it as in Romans 1:17, or the first time we see it in

    Romans 1:17

  56. our new testament is in Romans 1:17 where Paul is talking,

    Romans 1:17

  57. specifically about justification that the righteous come alive.

  58. By faith, the renewed by faith. The gospel specifically is the

  59. power of Salvation to all who believe and so the righteous

  60. live by faith. The second thing we second time,

  61. we see it is in Galatians chapter 3, if you know anything

    Galatians 3 chapter mention

  62. about the book of Galatians, the Galatians were guilty of running

  63. back on their faith in Christ and turning back to Works.

  64. They're turning to Works to sanctify.

  65. Works to have faith. Then they're putting faith in

  66. their own work so I should say. And so, in Galatians 3:11, Paul

    Galatians 3:11

  67. uses this phrase, the righteous live by faith by letting them

  68. know that the righteous are Sanctified by faith.

  69. So you have justification, which is the beginning of Faith, you

  70. have sanctification, which is the process of Faith.

  71. Thought from your first breath, as a new Christian to your final

  72. breath. And then in Hebrews 10, verse 38

    Hebrews 10:38

  73. phrases used again. I know I said that all these are

  74. used by Paul so that's putting my cards on the table as to.

  75. I think the writer of Hebrews is most people don't I mean we

  76. don't know who the writer of Hebrews is but that's that's a

  77. pretty widely held belief. Anyway there, he's talking

  78. specifically about your glorification, the righteous

  79. live by faith. And again he's encouraging the

  80. Hebrews not to turn to works, but the Hold On by faith to

  81. Christ until the very end. You will receive your due

  82. reward. So it's talking about your

  83. glorification. So what we see about this phrase

  84. that the righteous shall live by his faith, is that the Christian

  85. Life is a life of Faith. Amen, it's a life of Faith.

  86. It's a life born of Faith. It's a life that's lived by

  87. faith and it's a life that's consummated in faith.

  88. It breathes his last breath in faith.

  89. It goes to, its grave knowing that the grave has no, hold on

  90. him. Amen.

  91. And so from beginning to end the Christian Life is a life of

  92. Faith received as a gift of God's grace.

  93. But what do you do when your faith is rocked?

  94. What do you do when your faith is in shambles or when your

  95. faith is weak? Specifically, what do you do

  96. when your faith is is rocked by world affairs?

  97. What do you do when evil goes unpunished?

  98. What do you do when good receives persecution and evil

  99. receives reward? What do you do when it looks as

  100. though the battle is being lost? What do you do when you're

  101. pleading to God for mercy? And he appears silence Jasper,

  102. Just prayed for the end of abortion.

  103. It's a prayer that Louis likely all give a hearty.

  104. Amen. To But if we are to look

  105. honestly at the war on abortion, we would say we're losing.

  106. And so our cry is for Mercy or cry, is for Justice For The

  107. Unborn. but even in looking at that, we might think God, where

  108. are you? This is what habakkuk is facing.

  109. He's facing very much similar questions to what we face today.

  110. And so this is a great book and it's a great book because it

  111. teaches us as Christians how to respond.

  112. It's much like the Book of Job and many other stories in

  113. Scripture. Habakkuk teaches us that the

  114. righteous live by faith. And today, what I want us to see

  115. is that the faithful turn to God and their distress, the faithful

  116. turn to God and their distress. Let me pray for us.

  117. Heavenly Father. We thank you that you are with

  118. us today. We thank you Lord that your word

  119. is good and right and true. And father, we ask that you be

  120. near to us today as we open up your word.

  121. And as we read, we ask Lord that you would help us to know your

  122. presence. God, we can look into our own

  123. world and have many many questions that go.

  124. That go unanswered. We can wonder God, where are

  125. you? We can feel alone.

  126. We can feel as though we've been forsaken.

  127. And not just us as Christians here and America but all over

  128. the globe. as we look at the persecution of our brothers and

  129. sisters, Across the world. God, would you help us to be

  130. faithful? Would you help us to live by

  131. faith? Would you use this book

  132. habakkuk? Did you use your word?

  133. To help us to live father truly live strengthen our faith.

  134. Bolstered Lord, help us to learn how to live in Babylon.

  135. As men and women of God as boys and girls who are seeking your

  136. face. In Christ's name.

  137. I pray this prayer. Amen.

  138. As many of your Bible, studies point out.

  139. There's various things about the background of habakkuk that are

  140. really important for us to understand as we understand, why

  141. is habakkuk lobbying. These complaint grenades at God,

  142. why is he doing this? And so a couple of the things

  143. that you want to know is how bacchic is likely a contemporary

  144. of the prophets, Zephaniah and Jeremiah, he lived in 7th

  145. Century BC, the only hint that we have.

  146. That date is the prediction of the Babylonian Invasion or the

  147. invasion of the Chaldeans, as you see in Chapter 1 Verse 6,

  148. which will read here in a moment, but it's really unclear

  149. to us how far into the future. That would be the book.

  150. Just doesn't give us a lot by way of dating ability.

  151. The Babylonians do not appear yet in this to be an imminent

  152. threats when habakkuk was riding.

  153. But it seems as though he could see the writing on the wall.

  154. It seems as though he had a maybe even had a vision.

  155. I don't know from the Lord about what was coming.

  156. He seems very aware of the potential threats.

  157. And so habakkuk timeframe for riding is probably not as most

  158. Scholars point out. Probably not later than the end

  159. of Josiah's. Ranking Josiah's ring, which was

  160. in 642 609 BC. Long time ago.

  161. Before Josiah was raining. As king Judah had radically

  162. turned away from God. Under the leadership of the

  163. extremely Wicked Kings Manasseh and Amon that the nation was

  164. right, for punishments, Judah was supposed to be the nation of

  165. God's people. But the people had become

  166. morally and spiritually corrupt, they were worshiping by Al on

  167. the high places, they were brutally.

  168. Murdering is a better word than sacrifice of brutally murdering

  169. their children as a sacrifice to Molech.

  170. They were allowing the temple to fall into ruin and many other

  171. such calamities. The place was not happy.

  172. It was not full of joy. Jude experience.

  173. The significance, though. Short-lived time of Revival.

  174. If you will during Josiah's rain when we're He restored, the all

  175. here, instituted, the Feast of the Passover, he reminded them

  176. of the word of God and tried to abide by it.

  177. Tried to get the nation to abide by its Remember, The God Who had

  178. delivered them so many times before. but the nation return

  179. quickly to its evil ways following his death It was a

  180. politically turbulent time as well.

  181. There's much going on outside of Judah, not only within Judah,

  182. but outside of Judah, Assyria had ruled Judah with a heavy

  183. hand for well over 100 years inflicted punishments.

  184. On them. But Assyria was beginning to

  185. weaken. And soon Babylon would be the

  186. world power. A backache probably lived to see

  187. the following events. The destruction of Nineveh by

  188. Babylon and 612 the Battle of haran and 609 in which King

  189. Josiah died, as he tried to hinder the Egyptians from

  190. reaching the battle. He probably saw the final defeat

  191. of this, the Assyrians at the Battle of Kharkov, mesh and 605

  192. and he possibly saw the Fulfillment of his own prophecy,

  193. which is the Babylonian invasion of Judah in 605 and 597 and in

  194. 586 BC. Habakkuk.

  195. It's seen a lot spiritually. Spiritual corruptness, it's in

  196. political upheaval. A backache lived during a time

  197. of great turmoil. And it, especially that turmoil,

  198. especially resulted in the persecution of God's people.

  199. Now, as I'm reading that, as I was studying this and one of the

  200. reasons I want to present this book to you, I hope it's obvious

  201. now that there's bears and this is something we want to be we

  202. want to be careful of but this Bears many resemblances to our

  203. own day and time. Not only in what we're seeing in

  204. America but just world-wide right now.

  205. Again I don't think that the nation of I want to make this

  206. clear. The nation of America is not How

  207. the nation of Judah. Right.

  208. But what we see is the persecution of God's people

  209. because evil is prevailing and what we see is God's people are

  210. God's man God's Prophet coming to God saying where are you?

  211. And I feel that deep in my soul. I do, I'm sure many of you do.

  212. The people are worshipping false gods.

  213. The people today worship, many false gods, Many of the people

  214. who are worshiping the false gods in habakkuk.

  215. Are people who once considered themselves, God's people, and

  216. today many of the people who are worshiping false gods and our

  217. time are those who once considered themselves, God's

  218. people, the people are sacrificing children.

  219. To Molech. This is not unlike the

  220. modern-day Gina side. We soften by simply calling it a

  221. boarding, a clump of cells. And so, somebody making tests

  222. for what God, our babies being offered to.

  223. Well, I would say it's the god of their own comfort and

  224. entitlements, it's the god of their own belly.

  225. Pun intended, right? They destroyed the temple.

  226. The place that was initially meant for God's residents his

  227. worship. We know that today on the

  228. backside of the death and resurrection of Christ, the

  229. sending of the holy spirit that we are the Temple of the Holy

  230. Spirit, God resides in us not in buildings or tents to be moved

  231. around but no less today. Are Christians and local

  232. churches being destroyed by the wicked.

  233. Amen. And so a backache looks at the

  234. mounting and the further incoming destruction.

  235. He sees what's going on. He says God, where are you?

  236. Where are you? I want everybody to listen to me

  237. for just a second because I think this is one of the most

  238. important things we learn from habakkuk.

  239. I think it's one of the things we have to remember, We have to

  240. remember this. Believers, you are not promised.

  241. You are not promised by God to be saved from Babylonian

  242. captivity. You are not promised by God to

  243. be saved from Babylonian persecution and Earthly rule.

  244. You may experience it. in many ways, we are experiencing But

  245. what you are? Chao.

  246. Is that you have a refuge in God?

  247. Always. And you are shown in this book.

  248. How Christians are to live faithful to God when under

  249. Babylonian rule in captivity? That's what the bakic teaches

  250. us. And I think the challenge goes a

  251. bit further than that parents. You have been given the

  252. god-given rights to raise children, who will be arrows in

  253. the hands of warrior Psalm says and 127.

  254. To fight. Against the Babylonian rule.

  255. Believers, you are lights in the world that is ruled by Darkness.

  256. I was talking with a dear brother the other day and and

  257. one of the things we were discussing is just how maybe sad

  258. is a good word. it is that we live at a time right now where

  259. Christians men, Old men men who in Titus 2 or supposed to be

  260. leading the charge for young men, training, young men.

  261. I hear old men lamenting Oh, I'm so glad I don't have to raise

  262. four children in this world. And I think that I've reached

  263. the moment where my response will change.

  264. Used to it was just kind of a soft chuckle in like a, I

  265. understand. But how?

  266. How cowardice is that statement? As a belief as someone who

  267. professes to Believe In The Sovereign Rule and authority of

  268. God? And so my response, that least

  269. the gut feeling I have the confidence, I have in Christ.

  270. Is that not how terrible is it? But how fortunate in my eye?

  271. To get to raise children in this world.

  272. Praise God for the opportunity. Praise God for it.

  273. You see, you don't choose. Babylonian rule.

  274. It's not something you just wander into one day or wake up

  275. one day saying man I would love to live under the rule of the

  276. Babylonians. It's chosen for you by the

  277. faithless naseeb generations that have gone before you.

  278. And what you're responsible for, is your faithfulness in the

  279. generation that you're currently dwelling in.

  280. How will I change the future? So you don't do this just as

  281. parents just one that's one application points.

  282. You don't have to be a parent to raise arrows.

  283. You raise Arrows by raising disciples, amen, disciples.

  284. Don't have to be your children. If you're a parent those are

  285. your first disciples. Absolutely.

  286. If you're not a parent God hasn't solved for whatever

  287. reason to make you a parent yet and maybe he never does then

  288. he's given you an incredible opportunity to be a disciple

  289. maker either way as a child of God.

  290. And so you get to make disciples You to make disciples.

  291. And so again, I think one of the main things about habakkuk is

  292. that Babylonian rule happens. And you might look at Americans.

  293. Oh man this is really tough. What we're going through blah

  294. blah, blah of a change over the last 100 years. 50 years even 20

  295. years. It's like nothing we've ever

  296. seen sure, I don't disagree with you, but do you realize how

  297. fortunate we've been to live in America?

  298. There were brothers and sisters all over the world who have

  299. never experienced the freedom we've experienced.

  300. And yet in persecution, the church thrives the church grows.

  301. In fact, persecution has a way of weeding outs, unbelievers,

  302. separating the wheat, from, the chaff.

  303. How do we know who's in, and who's out?

  304. Let them endure persecution and we'll find out.

  305. You'll know for sure then who's in and who's out?

  306. So voting matters standing for the right things matters.

  307. Absolutely. But what matters most is your

  308. day-to-day to commitment to the Lord to serve him as his

  309. disciple to grow in Christ likeness and to make other

  310. disciples. That's what matters.

  311. Because you have to prepare people to live under Babylonian

  312. rule. And, and weather.

  313. Whether it comes or not faithfulness is the only way to

  314. live in it. And so back is a book that's

  315. about the Judgment of God. On God's people.

  316. And how he uses. evil people to exercise, his judgement on

  317. seemingly are people who think they are good, but that way,

  318. Look at verse 11. The Oracle that habakkuk the

  319. prophet saws, so in Chapter 2, he sold a write this down.

  320. So that's his that's his introduction.

  321. Here's the Oracle that I saw. Now here's his complaints in

  322. verse 2, through 4 O Lord. How long shall I cry for help

  323. and you will not hear or cry to you violence, and you will not

  324. save. Why do you make me see iniquity?

  325. And why do you idly look at wrong?

  326. Destruction and violence are before me strife and contention

  327. arise. So the law is paralyzed and

  328. Justice. Never goes forth for the wicked.

  329. Surround the righteous so Justice Goes Forth, perverted

  330. When you can hear in his voice right though.

  331. The pain, the suffering, the doubt, the fear, the Calamity,

  332. that's all around him, and God why?

  333. Why are you silent? Where are you?

  334. Before we get into God's reply, I want you to see at least three

  335. things that that I think back it does that show us how the

  336. faithful go to God in their distress.

  337. Because you can go to God in your distress in a sinful way.

  338. And you can go to God in your distress and a righteous way.

  339. And I think a back it comes largely in a righteous way.

  340. Here's a few things that I think helped us see that the first is

  341. that habakkuk remembers his Covenant with God.

  342. How do we know he remembers his Covenant with God?

  343. He didn't name his Covenant. Did he?

  344. He didn't say God, I'm one of your Covenant people.

  345. I mean mentions the righteous so maybe that's a hint but the very

  346. first hint we have is that he uses the Covenant name for God

  347. lord. it says, oh Lord, this This is how the Covenant people

  348. of God address God. And so the use of the name Lord

  349. emphasizes his relationship with God.

  350. And what we need to take from this is that the presence of

  351. evil the presence of suffering or not negating.

  352. His relationship with God. They're not taking it away these

  353. tumultuous times that he's experiencing.

  354. Don't make him run from God. They make him run to God, right?

  355. Oh Lord! Where are you?

  356. He's running to God. God's faithful people turn to

  357. him during their distress. Well the first thing is we need

  358. to see they remember their Covenant with him.

  359. O Lord. Where Are You?

  360. O Lord. You see, in using the Covenant

  361. name of God. He's also recalling past works

  362. of God. He knows that he can call on God

  363. because he has the past works of God to point to and say, God

  364. hears for you were faithful to deliver your people.

  365. Where are you now? This is why remembering your

  366. Covenant matters. Is why knowing your scriptures

  367. matters? You were not alone when you

  368. question where is God you stand in a line of great great

  369. company. Many Believers across thousands

  370. of years who are saying the very same thing.

  371. Oh Lord where are you? It's like a thing.

  372. I observed here about habakkuk dealing with the Lord.

  373. And this way is that he deals honestly with God.

  374. First thing is you remembers his Covenant but the second thing is

  375. that he deals honestly with God, he doesn't sugarcoat his

  376. complaints. What would it matter boys and

  377. girls would it matter? If he had tried to hide his

  378. thoughts from the Lord, or does the Lord know everything?

  379. Any boy or girl want to take a shot at the young ones?

  380. Yeah it's God know everything. Yeah he does.

  381. All right, God knows all things. So we can't hide our thoughts

  382. from him. Now, the boys and girls are

  383. shrinking down there. She's like, please don't call

  384. him me. So habakkuk comes honestly

  385. before the Lord. He says, how long shall I cry to

  386. you? In other words this has been

  387. going on a while. This isn't his first prayer.

  388. How long shall I continue to do this?

  389. Lord. Where are you?

  390. Why do you idly look at wrong? In other words, why do you

  391. twiddle your thumbs? While wrong is being done to

  392. your people. Habakkuk is observing the

  393. spiritual Corruption of God's people.

  394. He's observing the tumultuous political pressure going on all

  395. around him in the world and the prophet begins to doubt, maybe.

  396. Maybe doubts, beginning to creep in.

  397. Maybe the mockers are getting to him, you know, the outside

  398. voices. Who say, where is your god when

  399. they look at evil, right? This is one of the great

  400. atheistic questions of the day. If God is good, and if God

  401. exists, why is there evil in the world?

  402. I'm sure habakkuk was hearing similar.

  403. Thoughts. The prophet begins to doubt

  404. potentially whether there will be Justice against evil, whether

  405. there will be Mercy shown to the faithful.

  406. Where are you? God, how long shall I cry to

  407. you? Are you going to show your

  408. people? Mercy?

  409. Have you, forsaken us? Where are you?

  410. God, will you allow evil to go unpunished?

  411. I'll back. It goes on to make some

  412. accusations against God. He says the law is paralyzed And

  413. he says, justice never goes forth.

  414. These are heavy accusations against the Lord.

  415. Well, the one thing, the prophet recognized for sure, is that the

  416. Mosaic law had no perceivable effect on the people, it wasn't

  417. changing the nation, the, the Mosaic law, The Ten

  418. Commandments, right? And all the rest had no

  419. perceivable effect on the world. People were still evil God's

  420. people even were turning away from God and turning to idol

  421. worship. What's commandment number one?

  422. I shall have no other gods before me.

  423. Commandment number two, don't worship.

  424. Idols, don't make any thing in my image and worship it.

  425. The people have disobeyed, the first two Commandments.

  426. And he looks and he says, the law must be paralyzed.

  427. It's not working. And so the prophet thinks that

  428. God silence is causing Injustice to fester and to grow like a

  429. wound. That's becoming infected.

  430. It's getting worse and worse and it's affecting the whole body.

  431. And he's not wrong. This festering, it is growing.

  432. The wicked were surrounding the righteous.

  433. He says And throughout the history of God's people from

  434. Genesis to revelation. Into where we are today.

  435. The children of God have often expressed these same complaints

  436. job made the very same complaints to God.

  437. Job even tries to justify himself in the process and which

  438. he receives a hearty rebuke, From God.

  439. And from a friend, there is a rights Israelites wondered where

  440. God was during their Wilderness journey is God, even Among Us,

  441. they said, so the the righteous bring their distress to the

  442. Lord. That go to the Lord in their

  443. distress but they do it by remembering his Covenant name,

  444. remembering their Covenant with him.

  445. And they do it by dealing honestly with God.

  446. The third thing that I think of bacchic recognizes that I think

  447. we must recognize and this is one of the things that keeps us

  448. from being sinful and our approach is that habakkuk

  449. understood the sovereignty of God in all this.

  450. Again, I think this is one of the things that grounds us.

  451. It's one of the things that helps us remain humble.

  452. Before the Lord, how long will I cry to you for help?

  453. And you will not hear or cry to you violence, and you will not

  454. save. Why do you make me see iniquity?

  455. And why do you look idly at wrong?

  456. You see all the use the word you in there?

  457. He's holding God responsible. But it but he's holding God

  458. responsible because he knows that God is sovereign.

  459. He knows that God that the sovereignty of God means is it

  460. means that God is the supreme ruler of all things.

  461. Not merely objects or persons but he is the ruler of every

  462. events of History. Nothing happens apart from the

  463. hand of God. And his Sovereign rule by

  464. definition is not subject to anything or anyone outside of

  465. himself. It is his own God works all

  466. things together for the purpose of his own Glory.

  467. And His glory will spread throughout the Earth that will

  468. cover the earth. Isaiah says, as the waters,

  469. Cover the Earth. Psalm 115 3.

  470. The psalmist there says our God is in the heavens and he does

  471. all that. He pleases she got is not

  472. forwarded in his plans, not once not at all.

  473. And so habakkuk, recognizing this truth, he goes to the

  474. source He seeks answers for his complaints from the only one who

  475. could give an answer. You see the presence of evil

  476. gives the appearance of the absence of God, but it does not

  477. prove the absence of God. All right.

  478. Especially as evil grows, especially as it begins to kind

  479. of overwhelm God's people. It can.

  480. It can look, Like God is absent. But the righteous walk by faith,

  481. they don't walk by sight. That's what First Corinthians

  482. tells us or we may say as it said here that the righteous

  483. live by faith And not by sight. Another words, the righteous man

  484. or woman the righteous boy or girl does not.

  485. Look at the events going on around him and decide whether or

  486. not he or she is going to remain faithful to God.

  487. The righteous person looks at the events going on around them

  488. and says, no matter what I'm going to remain faithful to the

  489. Lord. He is worthy of my faithfulness

  490. because he is always faithful and steadfast and love.

  491. Never relented. Habakkuk teaches us how we

  492. properly bring our complaints to God.

  493. It is true that the faithful turn to God in their distress

  494. with the faithful do. So in faith, they don't do it as

  495. unbelievers. Unbelievers mock, God,

  496. unbelievers mock, his people unbelievers scoff, Someone uses

  497. this illustration so perfectly. It talks about not sitting in

  498. the presence of scoffers, not standing in the way of Sinners

  499. not, not being like the mockers, But this is what unbelievers, do

  500. they mock God and they mock his people.

  501. They look weak. Look at them believing in their

  502. fairy tale. God, who is non-existent?

  503. He's clearly non-existent. Because evil is present if he

  504. were really good. There would be no evil.

  505. Right. And that's what they say, right?

  506. Agreeing It's really just a straw man argument.

  507. Believers on the other hand, They come to God in faith.

  508. And so just to kind of reiterate what I've just told you

  509. believers do that. They come to the Lord by and

  510. Faith by remembering their Covenant with him.

  511. If you missed that the first time around, that's step one.

  512. Remember your Covenant with God, he is your Lord because he saved

  513. you by his grace through faith. If you were in Christ, Jesus.

  514. It's because of the work of God Almighty.

  515. On your behalf, do not forget your salvation Just because the

  516. world is burning around you. Believers deal.

  517. Honestly with God. It's okay to question God.

  518. What are you up to? What's going on?

  519. It's normal to feel alone at times.

  520. It's normal to wonder. It's normal to doubt your

  521. finite. You're not infinite.

  522. The Bible, clearly states, that his ways are higher than our

  523. ways. His thoughts are greater than

  524. our thoughts. How could you think on the same

  525. level of God, you can't. So, what is your natural

  526. response going to be? It's going to be times of doubt

  527. and fear. Worry, anxiety.

  528. Bring those to the Lord Faithfully.

  529. Third thing they do is they understand the sovereignty of

  530. God. God is completely in control of

  531. all things at all times. Nothing happens.

  532. Apart from his hand. R.c., Sproul, the late Caster

  533. r.c., Sproul. He had this wonderful quote, he

  534. said if there's one Maverick molecule, if there's one

  535. molecule that decides to do its own thing and all the universe,

  536. then God is not sovereign. And if God is not sovereign, he

  537. is not God. So faithful Christians, may not

  538. understand why something happens, we make question it,

  539. but you can trust that all things happen.

  540. According to God's Sovereign Rule and so when a Christian

  541. does, is it Christian learns to pray?

  542. Then like this God help me. Help me see your glory.

  543. During all of this helped me. See your Sovereign hand at work

  544. and all of this helped me to overcome my fears and my

  545. frustrations and my doubts. Help me God That's how you

  546. Faithfully Pray when you're seeking answers.

  547. Prayers like that over and over again though.

  548. They may not receive the answer you're looking for.

  549. But you may not have all the knowledge of God in a moment.

  550. Prayers like that produce Joy. Prayers like that, produce

  551. strength prayers, like that produce, comfort, and peace, and

  552. faith during times of distress prayers, like that, helped you

  553. and the Brotherhood of Christians keep marching

  554. forward. You recognize and moments of

  555. dependents that you are not alone.

  556. God gives you all sorts of things that you cannot handle,

  557. so that you will depend on him. If God only gave you things, you

  558. could handle, you would be God, not him.

  559. God doesn't want you to be God, he created you to worship and

  560. glorify his name, not yours. Amen.

  561. So you come under, Babylonian rule, you come under Babylonian

  562. impact, you come under the impact of Sinners.

  563. You come under persecution, you come under Strife, you come

  564. under difficulty, so that you will learn to praise the name of

  565. the Lord, most high above every other name.

  566. It teaches you to be humble it, teaches you.

  567. To not think by my strength, look how awesome I am. teaches

  568. you to trust and The Only Name That's worthy of trust, the name

  569. of Jesus Christ, Our Lord And that happens in those prayers,

  570. whether it's about personal distress or Global distress.

  571. Would you look at God's response?

  572. I promise to be a bit shorter here.

  573. Habakkuk 15 through 11. Look among the Nations and see

  574. wonder and be astounded. God says, for I am doing a work

  575. in your days that you would not believe if told for behold I'm

  576. raising up the Chaldeans. That's the Babylonians that

  577. bitter and Hasty Nation, who marched through the breadth of

  578. the earth to seize dwellings that are not their own.

  579. That means they're coming to take y'all stuff.

  580. Right. It's like done every other

  581. persons. They're coming for you.

  582. They are dreaded and fearsome their Justice and their dignity

  583. go forth from themselves. Their horses are swifter than

  584. leopards more Fierce than the evening.

  585. Wolves, their Horsemen press proudly on their Horsemen come

  586. from afar. They Fly Like an Eagle Swift to

  587. devour. They all come for violence, all

  588. their faces, forward together, captives like sand.

  589. You ever taken a handful of sand and just hold it.

  590. And who knows? How many?

  591. Potentially millions of grains of sand.

  592. You're grabbing in one handful. All their faces are forward.

  593. The captures likes, and at Kings, they scoff at rulers,

  594. they laugh. They're not afraid of any ruler.

  595. They laugh at every Fortress for they pile up Earth and take it.

  596. This means that this is kind of a neat.

  597. God is telling of a battle tactic that they had where they

  598. would pile up the ground in front of fortresses, in order to

  599. get over the Fortress and take the place, I mean, they're

  600. moving dirt literally to get into your place and season and

  601. you and your family. I think about the spiritual

  602. significant that Suzy kind of survey the landscape.

  603. The Babylonians are piling up ground all around us today.

  604. And I don't mean necessarily in a physical sense, I mean more in

  605. a spiritual sense. They're coming for Christianity.

  606. They've already begun. You're raising children and a

  607. time where? You might even but your children

  608. will certainly see. Barring a great Revival, of

  609. course. That that anything that

  610. professes to be Christian is hate speech.

  611. Condemnable likely. My Punishment of law.

  612. This isn't fear-mongering I think you need to know how to

  613. raise your children. How to raise disciples?

  614. How to think about your own Christianity and just how

  615. serious this is. In these days. men, it's time

  616. for you to stop sitting on the sidelines, if you are I don't

  617. know any other way to put it. We need you, women, we need you,

  618. we need faithful men and women to run after the Lord, God above

  619. all else. Harder Than You, Train Your

  620. Body. Harder than you train for work.

  621. Harder than you train anything else.

  622. You need to train yourself for godliness because it matters

  623. right now in your life more than it's ever mattered before.

  624. Man, I love you. I really expected more.

  625. I'm insane. Not for me but because you see

  626. the desperation of this. But know that you don't beat the

  627. air as a boxer, beats the air, you don't train for something

  628. that you're not gifted to train for the.

  629. Holy Spirit has filled you with life and godliness for this very

  630. time. And as you turn from sin as you

  631. turn from your own desires and you turn to the Lord, he fills

  632. you up. With the fruit of the spirit.

  633. And you get to go into battle with the Lord's army.

  634. As a Christian, it's a man or woman with Christ written across

  635. your heart. It matters.

  636. God in verse 11. He says then they sweep by like

  637. the wind and go on another words.

  638. I just It's like the destruction of a F5.

  639. Tornado on a small town. There's just nothing left, the

  640. suite by like the wind and they go on guilty men.

  641. Here's where the righteous hangs.

  642. His hat guilty men, whose own might is their God.

  643. You should God and his response, he doesn't tell, he doesn't tell

  644. habakkuk what he wants to hear. This is not what habakkuk came.

  645. Looking for back at came looking for immediate relief.

  646. Immediate Mercy, he doesn't get it.

  647. What he says is, oh, it's about to get worse.

  648. But what you can trust is that they are guilty men.

  649. And there might is their own God.

  650. God has judged them right even though he's letting them.

  651. Act. He's using them as an act of

  652. judgment against Judah. God is saying, I'm among you.

  653. I'm with you. I'm here to help you.

  654. I will bring them Justice. But I'm going to do it through

  655. this violent and prideful Nation.

  656. I'm going to use them, and that's why he says you would not

  657. believe it. Even if told the prophet refused

  658. to believe that a just, God would use the sinful Babylonians

  659. to deal with his people. But again, God's sovereignty is

  660. on display. He says, I am raising up the

  661. Chaldeans. He doesn't say the child beans

  662. are coming. He says, I am raising up the

  663. Chaldeans for this purpose. This is The Sovereign Judgment

  664. of God on his people. God controls everything.

  665. He uses Nations even for his own purposes.

  666. The god of habakkuk is the same God, we serve today.

  667. He knows the Chaldeans are bitter and Hasty Nation.

  668. He calls them that he says they're guilty yet.

  669. He will use their character to punish Judah.

  670. They've dominated the world. They're destroying lives through

  671. murder, in captivity. Their own might, is their God,

  672. according to the Lord. And it's in that that you see a

  673. glimpse of their impending, judgments.

  674. God's response doesn't silence habakkuk for long.

  675. He will see next week, his second complaints there.

  676. Habakkuk essentially says, how could you do this?

  677. God, how could you use an evil and perverse people?

  678. To exercise judgment. On your people.

  679. Let me wrap this up for us. That this perplexing response

  680. through this perplexing response.

  681. God, challenges, not only habakkuk Faith, but ours as

  682. well. That God can bring about good

  683. from Evil. Is a theme that Echoes down

  684. through the whole Bible. You see it?

  685. One of the first times you see, it is.

  686. Well let me see it everywhere. You see in Genesis 3, but

  687. Genesis 50 is one of the times where it's so plain to us as

  688. Joseph. There makes a statement to his

  689. brothers after they sold him into captivity.

  690. He lives in prison for a while. He becomes a dream, he's able to

  691. interpret dreams for Pharaoh, he gains a lot of prominence of

  692. gains, a lot of authority. And he's able to deliver God's

  693. people. And this is what he says to his

  694. brothers, as they realize what they've done the place they've

  695. given him and now he's saved them and they're repenting of

  696. it. He says, as for you, you meant

  697. evil against me, but God meant it for good.

  698. God used evil in my life for good. it takes a ton of faith

  699. and yet a small minutiae Faith at the same time to be able to

  700. say God used evil for my good. But that's what Joseph does.

  701. The Apostle Paul reaffirms this, he expounds on it for the sake

  702. of time, I can't read it all goodness sake of time while

  703. Romans 8:28. And we know that for those who

    Romans 8:28

  704. love God, all things work together for good.

  705. For those who are called according to his purpose.

  706. That's that's the Apostle Paul essentially restating what

  707. Joseph said in Genesis 50 but then in 29, through 38, sorry,

  708. 39. He He just expounds on it.

  709. He goes so much further. Encourage you to read that if

  710. you're struggling. The best thing though, about

  711. God's have back response to habakkuk is that it also really

  712. hang with me, just for a minute here, it also foreshadows the

  713. ultimate good. It foreshadows when we look

  714. forward to something, right? It tells us something that's

  715. coming and this is what happens in this God saying.

  716. I'm going to use something evil for your good.

  717. God is foreshadowing. The ultimate moment of when evil

  718. is used for good, and that's in Eternal salvation, Eternal

  719. salvation. Your Eternal salvation was

  720. accomplished through the ultimate Evil.

  721. There is only one man who ever walked the face of the Earth.

  722. who was punished, put to death, unrighteous Unjustly.

  723. Everyone else whether in so you can make that set me right now.

  724. There's probably evidence of somebody who was, you know,

  725. received the death penalty who wasn't really guilty.

  726. Well, maybe they weren't guilty of that crime, but they're

  727. guilty before God. Right?

  728. And so, this is why all men die. But not all men.

  729. Stay dead. There is eternal salvation in

  730. Christ, Jesus. And that comes through the

  731. ultimate Evil. The execution of the sinless Son

  732. of God upon a cross. I don't know if you recall, I

  733. want to recall for you Acts chapter 2 verse 22, through 24

    Acts 2:22

  734. Peter is towards the end of his sermon on the day of Pentecost,

  735. and he makes a seemingly wild statement about what's just

  736. taking place to Jesus Christ, and this is what he says.

  737. He says, men of Israel. Hear these words, Jesus of

  738. Nazareth, a man attested to you, by God, with Mighty works, and

  739. wonders, and signs. That God.

  740. Did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know. this

  741. Jesus, Peter says, And he's standing before a crowd of

  742. people who are just there listening intently at what in

  743. the world is just happened to the disciples as they begin

  744. speaking in tongues and their proclaiming, the excellencies of

  745. God and languages, they didn't previously know.

  746. And so he has a captive audience especially of men of Israel.

  747. Who just days earlier, put to Death Christ Jesus.

  748. And this is what he says, this Jesus.

  749. Delivered up according to the definite plan and for knowledge

  750. of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of Lawless men.

  751. Wow. You see what?

  752. Peter is saying, he's saying that the hands of Lawless men

  753. put to death, the only person who ever fulfilled the law, who

  754. only who they only person ever kept it perfectly the only

  755. sinless person to live And that they did that, according to the

  756. definite plan and foreknowledge of God, it was not a part from

  757. the hand of God. The decree of God.

  758. God worked evil. The greatest evil for your

  759. greatest. Good.

  760. That you might be saved from your sins by belief in him.

  761. Amen. Peter goes on God raised him up.

  762. Loosing the Pains of death because it was not it was not

  763. possible for him to be held by it.

  764. Praise God. And so what we see is that in

  765. the unfathomable wisdom of God, on that cross, Justice and mercy

  766. met Justice and mercy met Jesus receives the penalty.

  767. That the justice of God requires for sin, which is death.

  768. According to Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death.

    Romans 6:23

  769. Jesus received the penalty and the justice of God for sin.

  770. And we receive through faith, God's mercy, and forgiveness of

  771. sin and the promise of eternal life.

  772. Amen. Justice and mercy meet.

  773. Paul in Romans chapter 3 says, but now the righteousness of God

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  774. has been manifested apart from the law of the law and the

  775. prophets bear witness to it. The righteousness of God through

  776. faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe for there is no

  777. distinction, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

  778. All are justified by his grace as a gift through the

  779. Redemption. That are in that is in Christ.

  780. Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation.

  781. That is a payment a substitute by his blood to be received by

  782. faith. If you were going to be saved

  783. from your sins today, it will not be through your works.

  784. It will not be through your evil.

  785. It will not be through. Fleeting your own case.

  786. It will be by humbling yourself before the Lord and placing your

  787. faith in Jesus Christ for the Forgiveness of your sins.

  788. Repent, repent. Repent of your sins, turn to

  789. Christ and live eternally with Jesus.

  790. Pleaded of you. And then help us make disciples.

  791. Help us spread the light of the Gospel into all the Earth.

  792. It says that this was to show God's righteousness, he can't be

  793. accused of being unrighteous because he's righteous because

  794. in his Divine forbearance, he had passed over former sins.

  795. It was to show his righteousness at the present time so that he

  796. might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in

  797. Jesus. You see, if God Justified people

  798. apart from the sacrifice of Christ, that would not be just

  799. That would be unjust to overlook sin.

  800. Instead he condemns Jesus to death so that he can righteously

  801. justify us by faith in Christ Jesus.

  802. Praise God. And this is why we can continue

  803. to have faith amid frustration. God's providential use of people

  804. and events is both purposeful and personal.

  805. It's meant for your good. It's meant for the good of his

  806. people. The righteous will never be.

  807. Forsaken ever. Believers in here today, live by

  808. faith. In Jesus Christ.

  809. Walk by faith in Christ. Not by the side of your

  810. circumstances. Go to God and your distress.

  811. Whether that distress is personal or Global trustee.

  812. Unbelievers. All have sinned and fallen short

  813. of the glory of God and are justified by his grace.

  814. As a gift through the Redemption that is in Christ.

  815. Jesus, God put forward as a propitiation by his blood to be

  816. received by faith receive Jesus Christ today by faith in him.

  817. Amen, me pray for you. Heavenly Father, we love you.

  818. We thank you, Lord, for your kindness and your goodness
