Psalms | Psalm 101

It's good to see everybody this morning.

I know there is a there's a lot of excitement about VBS, right?

We've mentioned VBS, quite a bit.

Scarlet is super excited. I'm and I'm excited too.

So it looks great in here. That's Kyle's already said,

thank you to all the volunteers. I know the works.

Not over yet. We'll be back this evening to

finish setting everything up and so it's going to be a great

week, looking forward to it. We're not there yet.

So this morning, what we're going to be doing is continuing

Being in Psalms. And so I just want to say thank

you very much to James for preaching this past week.

And I want to thank all the other elders and candidates for

kind of stepping in as Kyle. And I were both out, we both had

family events going on and very grateful to be a part of a

church where we have multiple Faithful Men, that can fill the

pulpit and stand in the Gap when we can't be here.

I'm glad to know that this place doesn't depend on Kyle Jones, or

Jasper jacks. And so, I'm thankful to those

men for doing that. We are very blessed church for

having multiple guys that can lead.

Well, amen! Amen.

All right. So we're going to be continuing

in our Series in the Psalms. We've kicked this off last week.

James started it out for us and the theme for this is aligning

ourselves with God's heart and so each week as we work through

a different Psalm, we're going to be looking at how through the

Psalms we can. See the character and the Heart

of God and we can seek to align ourselves with that by growing

to be more like Christ seeking to live our lives more like

Christ and so that's the goal of this whole series.

Okay? Is to be more like God and all

that we do and today is no different.

So today we're going to be in Psalm 101.

If you have your Bible, go ahead and turn their.

I want to start out by telling you or proposing an idea.

That maybe you haven't heard it. Is this, the Bible is not a

book. Have you ever thought about this

that the Bible? It's not really a book.

It is a library, it is a collection of books and each

book has multiple chapters and each chapter, of course has its

verses But it's a book because our it's a library because we

have all these different books, all these different genres, all

these different things in one collected form and I've never

even thought about it. Never dawned on me that most

other books you read, don't have these little thin Pages like a

Bible. I've always wondered why our

Bibles do it. Well, if this was normal that it

would be this thick, right? So to get a library into one

binding, that we call a book. You have thin pages, but this is

a A library, it's a collection of different books.

We're looking at the book of Psalms, which ironically enough

can be divided into five books in Psalms Psalms is a collection

of songs, okay? And there's different genres of

songs within the book and so just like now we have different

genres of music out there. Some people are digging a

country or rock and roll or whatever reggae, whatever your

thing is. Psalms, Has different genres in

it. These were all meant to be

saying but they were on different topics and themes.

And so you have Psalms of lament, if psalms of praise

Psalms of Thanksgiving, you have Psalms of wisdom, then you have

what are called royal Psalms historical Psalms and prophetic

Psalms the one we're reading today.

Psalm 101 is what's called a royal Psalm.

Let me tell you a little bit about that Royal Psalms were

written. About David and his kingdom.

It involved his kingdom and what was going on with those people

at that time, is very specific about what was happening with

the people in the Kingdom. The ESV Study Bible says this

Royal Psalms are concerned with the davidic monarchy as the

vehicle of blessing for God's people, all of the royal Psalms

relates to the Messiah, the ultimate are of David either by

setting a pattern like we see in Psalms 20, and One or by

portraying the Kings reign in such a way, that only the

Messiah could fulfill it as we see in Psalms 272 and even Psalm

101 today, or they focus on the future aspect of the kingdom,

and the Messiah. So a royal Psalm was about

David. It was about his kingdom and his

monarchy, but it always pointed forward toward the Messiah.

It was a foreshadowing. It was looking forward to a

better David a day when the things written about would be

perfectly filled out. Now, this Psalm Psalm 101 is

written by David, it's about his life and his kingdom, but it is

a vow that he is making to the Lord.

It is a big vow, if you will, if what you will.

So, one commentary said this about, it is said the vows in

this song, cover private, domestic life, personal

relationships and the daily work of administering Justice, This

devoted to cleaning Society, cleansing Society of evil, each

promise is directly relevant to holding public office.

The presence in the hymn book of this official Declaration of

intent, confirms that the valves Were Made In God's Presence

emphasizing that integrity and Civil Life, constituted a

religious Duty. So this song is about David,

it's about as Kingdom. It's about as life, it's

pointing toward the Messiah, the better David, but it's also

Also, for the people. So these would have been saying

by the people of Israel. These Republic songs that they

would sing out loud for different ceremonies and

occasions. So it wasn't just for David, it

wasn't, just looking forward toward the Messiah, everyone

would have sang this and the people would have understood

that by doing so the supplied to them, as well, okay?

In this, David was attempting to set the example for his people

by Leading them and what he's writing about.

By clearly laying out how he would rule his kingdom.

He offers the people a model for how they were to rule their

homes. And so this Psalm is known as

the householders psalm because it perfectly explains the kind

of life that God's people should strive for in their households.

So those of you out there which is all of you pay attention,

take notes to this, this is a song for you.

If you were building a home, if you have children in your home,

if you care about the kind of life, you live within the walls

of your house, not just the structure, but the home you're

building, You with your spouse and your children, this song is

for you. So pay attention this morning.

So enough, teeing it up. Without further Ado, let's read

it. Let's stand if you were able and

we are going to read Psalm 101 and this is what it says.

I will sing with steadfast love and Justice To You.

O, Lord, I will make music. I will ponder the way that is

blameless. Oh, when will you come to me?

I will walk with Integrity of heart within my house.

I will not sit before my eyes. Anything that is worthless.

I hate the work of those who fall away.

It shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far

from me. I will know nothing of evil.

Whoever Slanders, his neighbor secretly, I will destroy.

Whoever has a hearty look and an arrogant heart.

I will not endure. I will look with favor on the

faithful in the land that they may dwell with me.

He Who Walks in the way that is blameless.

Shall minister to me. No one who practices deceit

shall dwell in my house. No one who utters lies shall

continue before my eyes morning by morning.

I will destroy all the wicked of the Land cutting off all the

evildoers from the city of the Lord.

Amen, let's pray heavenly. Father again, we come to you

this morning, ask God that you be with us now that the Holy

Spirit would move in our hearts that you would speak to us

through your word and through me, God were thankful for this

opportunity to read from your word and to worship together

everything we do in here today is for your honor and your

glory, in Christ's name, we pray, amen.

You may be seated. So, the big idea behind this

sermon and behind this text in my opinion, is that a Christian

Life, is a life of Integrity? It should be a Christian Life,

lived out properly, a Christian Life.

Lived according to Christ's way, should be a life marked by

Integrity in Psalm 101. We see David was concerned with

living a life of integrity. Both personally and socially.

Integrity. Sometimes we get a misconception

of what Integrity is. Integrity can be defined as the

practice of showing consistent and uncompromising adherence to

strong principles and values. And ethics Integrity is regarded

as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions.

In other words, Integrity is the opposite of hypocrisy, okay?

Don't miss that. If you're taking notes, maybe

write that one down, Integrity is the opposite of hypocrisy.

So if you don't want to be a hypocrite, you have to be a

person marked by Integrity. You must do what you say you

will do. You must be a person who walks

the walk. Not just talks the talk.

Have you ever met someone? That that just does the talking

and not the walking that there's really nothing to those words?

I've met people like this, they're full of I'm going to do

this and I'm going to do this and eventually I'll do this full

of empty promises never doing anything and those cases it

would be better to just never say you're going to do it in the

first place rather than to say it and not do it.

So, a person marked by Integrity is one, who is true to their

word, who lives out, what they claim, who does what they say

they will do. They walk the walk and very

rarely have to talk the talk because of the way they walk the

walk. This is the kind of man.

David wanted to be one commentary said that the Kings

goal was to achieve Covenant faithfulness, both personally,

and socially. So as the Lord made Covenant

throughout the Bible with different people, Bow and made

promises to God's people. They in turn were to live a

life, that honored the Lord, they were to do their part, by

living and seeking God and everything that they did.

So in Psalm 101, we see many, I will statements David saying

taking a vow to say I'm going to do these things.

This is how I'm going to live my life.

It's how I'm going to conduct my kingdom.

It's how everything's going to be run under my rule.

Okay. So in verses 1 through 4, what

we see is a strong emphasis on personal Integrity.

If you're taking notes, you can write that down one through four

on personal. Tegra T verse one starts out, he

tells God, what he is going to sing about?

I will sing of steadfast love and Justice To You.

O Lord, I will make music. So he starts right out of the

gate. I'm going to sing about love and

Justice. These two themes, we see all

throughout God's word, we know God is marked by steadfast love

and Justice. These are qualities of God and

so David had experienced both As a young man, this was written

early in his Reign and his career is King and we know that

David had a lot of ups and downs when he first become king,

right? And even before he was King,

David was God's anointed. But his life was full of highs

and lows, he didn't just become, God, didn't choose him to be

king. And then David took office and

everything was smooth sailing from then on, it was just full

of highs and lows. And so David had experienced

both God's love and Justice and throughout the song, Psalms we

see David emulating the Lord in his love for righteousness and

steadfast love. But also Justice.

He wanted to be a king that exercised love and Justice and

he wanted to remember God's love and Justice as he did.

So. So verse 2, he says I will

ponder the way that is blameless.

What does the word ponder mean? We don't use this a lot in our

language. Nowadays, Ponder means to

consider Or to give special attention to.

And then, the way that is blameless is just another way of

saying God's ways God's laws, so he is saying I'm going to give

it extra special attention to. I'm going to consider.

I'm going to meditate on God's way.

God's law, God's rule. I'm going to focus on these

things. I'm going to study God's word.

Micah 6:8 gives a classic description of what this would

look. Like says he is told you o man,

what is good? And what does the Lord require

of you? But to do justice, love kindness

and walk humbly with your God. So David is committing to

meditate on this blameless way and on God's way, he will be a

man of God's word and he goes on to write many other Psalms that

proved this David wrote, time and time again if his love.

For God's precepts and his law. And his word, you can see it all

throughout the Psalms and no doubt, we will read other Psalms

this Summer that talked about this.

Continuing on in verse 2, he says, oh, when will you come to

me? This was another way of David

saying. God, when will you come live

with me when I'm inviting you into my home?

When will you come and dwell with me here in my house?

And he says, I will walk with in my house in the Integrity of my

heart. And this is the where we see one

of the fine points of this text, most often behind closed doors,

and our home is where we show our true colors.

That's where we let our guard down and we are really ourselves

around our family. Our spouse in our kids.

It's the strange thing is really weird.

I've seen this in myself and others that Sometimes behind

closed doors in our home. When we're with our family, the

people we love the most We can be even more harsh with them

than we would have stranger. Right.

Looks like sometimes the strangers.

There's like this certain level of couthe or whatever you want

to call it, where will show certain, you know, I don't even

know what to call that, but you give them a little bit more

consideration because you don't know them.

Well, and you feel the need to keep this these appearances.

But with family you'll just say the cutting remarks you'll say

what's on your mind, you lash out, and things like that.

And those are the people that you love the most East.

But we do this, we have a tendency to let our guard down

and be ourselves in our homes, with our families.

David is saying that even in his home behind closed doors, he's

going to continue to be a man of integrity.

He is still going to live his life Behind Closed Doors the

same way he does out in public for everyone to see.

This is the kind of man. He wants to be, he wants to be

strong and rooted in God's word, even in his home, even when no

one's watching, And not only that he's going to make sure

that his whole household does the same.

That is household walks and integrity.

Will see this again here in just a moment but this is very

reminiscent of a reminds me of Joshua 24:15 where it says as

Joshua 24:15

for me and my house we will serve the Lord Moving on in

verse 3, we see that he says I will not set before my eyes.

Anything that is worthless. He's saying, I'm going to keep

my gaze fixed on. Pleasing.

God on meditating on God's word. He did not want to fix his Gaze

on anything that would distract him from God or threaten his

Integrity as king. And as a follower of the Lord,

Let's pause for just a moment and think about this.

He has just said that he will walk with Integrity in his home

behind closed doors. And he doesn't want to put

anything anything before his eyes that is worthless.

Well let's let's we're going to get to application a little

later on in this sermon but let's just pause for a minute

and think about that. How often do we consider this?

How often do we consider? What we're doing behind closed

doors in our home and what we're putting in front of our face to

look at and whether or not it's worthless.

And is it going to distract us and lead us away from the Lord?

how often do we consider the effect that these things have on

our witness and on our personal testimony and our integrity

before God You see we a lot of times we think, no one else sees

these things, so no one knows and so I'm okay.

But God sees And so again I ask you how often do we consider

what we're doing behind closed doors and putting worthless

things before our eyes and I think, you know where I'm going

with this. but when it comes to things like pornography, or

maybe the movies that you allow yourself to watch and your kids

to watch the TV shows that you watch, would you be okay, having

your search history, put on the screen behind me this morning?

Would you be okay? Having your watchlist from

whatever app up here for everybody to see what you're

watching? Are you okay letting your kids

watch? Those shows that are

indoctrinating them and teaching them to live like children of

hell. You see as a person that has

struggled with this personally, throughout my life.

I can tell you that, these things absolutely have an effect

on your integrity. Did absolutely affect your walk

with the Lord. And whether you think anyone

knows it, or not, doesn't matter.

It affects you. It affects your heart and your

soul. It is absolutely crucial that we

have integrity in our walk with God that we live our lives.

The way we claim to live our lives that if we say we're

Christians and we say we love God that we do that.

That we live our lives. That way, that we study his

word, that we pray in our homes with our children.

We don't just show up and put on a fancy coat on Sunday, and come

in here and act all nice. And then go home and live, like

a child of Hell, the rest of the week.

And I'm not doing this to condemn you guys, I'm talking to

myself to hear. But what we put in front of our

faces, has a huge impact on you, on your mood and your Manner and

your demeanor much more than you realize and so it matters.

Don't think of it, it's just entertainment.

No, it's much bigger than that. You have to consider your

personal integrity and walk with the Lord, more important than

your entertainment or the lust of the flesh.

The only way you can do that is when you love God, more than

those things. He has to be your God.

Not Your Entertainment, not yourself not your pleasure.

When those things are your God, those things will run your life.

But consider as David did. What am I putting in front of my

face? Am I allowing myself to gaze at

worthless things? How am I walking behind closed

doors in my home? When no one else is watching?

Let's move on toward the end of verse 3, going into verse 4.

He says, I hate the work of those who fall away, it shall

not cling to me, a perverse heart shall be far from me.

I will know nothing of evil. Now that I hate the work of

those who fall away, it shall not cling to me and the nasb it

says, it shall not fastened, its grip on me.

David recognized, that this work of those who fall away.

This perverse heart this gazing at worthless things, it has a

way of sinking its claws into you and getting a grip on you

and clinging to you. These sins in particular for us

today, have a way of Being addictive things, like looking

at, pornography actually produce a dopamine, drip, in your brain,

that triggers your mind, think that if I want to feel that I

need to do that. So you have to understand

whether you recognize it or not. These things are addictive for a

reason. There's a reason that cellphone

has so much power over you. If you look at your screen time,

these things have a way of clinging to us of sinking their

claws in deep. And David is saying right here

that this this work of those who fall away, this perverse heart,

these things I'm going to cast it far away.

I'm not going to let it cling to me.

I'm going to get rid of that. I'm putting that out of my life.

And so I'm begging you this morning to recognize it for what

it is and see it for the danger that it is, and understand that

it is seeking to destroy you, and it is going to hang onto you

and fight tooth and nail. When you it is hard hard to

break habits and addictions with many of, you know, this, and I'm

not just talking about chemical dependencies or any of that.

I'm talking about reducing that screen time getting off of the

social media, a little bit, spend time with your kids,

Having a conversation with your family at the dinner table.

Turn it off that show. You don't need to be watching.

That stuff is hard to do. It has a grip on you.

So David is saying he will not let this happen.

He's not watching Netflix, obviously, but he's saying, I'm

putting nothing in front of my face.

It's going to distract me from God.

That's the life I'm after. He's not going to let any kind

of wickedness take root in his life.

That would that would threaten his personal Integrity.

So again, I'm asking you to consider the same for your life,

Mark, 947 tells us if your eye causes you to sin tear it out.

It's better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than

with two eyes. Be thrown into hell.

Jesus isn't advocating for self-mutilation here.

He's not saying, literally just go, you know, pop it out.

He's saying, whatever it is that is distracting.

You from leading a life where you love the Lord and you follow

the lord, anything that's going to threaten that, get rid of it.

Use Extreme Measures if you have to.

If you are unable to exercise some, some limits, and some

discretion with that smartphone, throw it in the trash and go get

it. Old flip phone until you can do

what it takes. I'm serious cancel that

subscription, do whatever you have to do.

Get rid of all of it, sit in a rocking chair and watch the sun.

Go down, instead of watching TV, whatever you have to do to

prevent this, do it. Take Extreme Measures.

Find the Cal accountability Partners, let your spouse or a

close friend. Look at your phone and look at

your search history. Do that set yourself up to where

you cannot do these things anymore.

So in these verses we see David shows a honest commitment to

personal Integrity. He wants to be a man that lives

his life. The way he says, he does whether

he's behind closed doors or out in public.

Now, moving on a big factor in this for David was going to be

who he surrounded himself with. Okay, you can't be a man of

integrity or a woman of Integrity.

If you surround yourself with Scoundrels, right?

So in verses 5 through 8, we see It also shows a commitment to

social Integrity. If you're taking notes you can

write that down, social integrity and verses 5 through

8. I just recently started

listening to a really cool podcast by this guy named Eric

Conn. It's on biblical manhood and the

like and he had an episode titled weak men will get you

killed. James probably could put the

pieces together and tell me exactly what I'm talking about.

But he uses a military illustration here, specifically,

he talks about the TV show, Band of Brothers, which the men that

are in biblical manhood are getting ready to walk through

that. We're going to watch that

together this summer. So this is a Shameless plug for

you guys that aren't coming to biblical manhood on Thursday

nights. Come, hang out with us this

summer. We're going to watch Band of

Brothers throughout the summer together.

So but he used the example of this.

A show and in it there was a character named Sobel.

So Bell, Sobel who was a captain and he was pretty worthless.

He was very Petty, very capricious as he was described.

He was a disciplinarian who's constantly berating the men

constantly failing them, he would get them lost out in Open

Fields, he tortured them essentially and he was not a

good Captain, he was hated by his men because of this because

they recognize two things. Number one, he's A good leader.

He's not a strong leader. Number two, he's going to get us

killed. And so that's where this idea of

weak. Men will get.

You killed comes from David likewise recognized that in

order to live a life of Integrity.

He had to have zero tolerance for it evil and wickedness, not

only in his personal life, but in his social life, with the

people that he surrounded himself with, He could not allow

those kind of men or women to serve in his household.

He could not surround himself with these type people on that

same podcast, episode, Eric Conn quotes, a statistic says, if you

surround yourself with obese, people your 70% more, likely to

be obese. I don't know the validity of

that claim but I think we all get the point.

You become like the people that you associate with you become

like the people, you surround yourself with This is never more

true than people who struggle with addictions, you find

yourself around those people you're in for trouble.

So you have to surround yourself with people that are like minded

that are working toward the same goals, you're working toward.

So again, David understood this, he understood that the mission.

He was on going to be a man of integrity to live his life, for

the Lord, and to serve his kingdom in a way that would

honor the Lord. He was going to have to surround

himself with men and And you have the same commitment to God

the same love for God. He could not be surrounded by

worthless people. Lazy people who did not care

about achieving the mission. Look at verse 5, it says,

whoever Slanders his neighbor secretly, I will destroy.

Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart.

I will not endure. So slander here, just means to

be bearing false witness against your neighbor.

Now, this is kind of an interesting fact, David as king

actually had the freedom and the right and the power to punish

that particular offense. So, bearing false witness was

punishable under the Kings. Drain.

He could actually do something about that if he found out about

it. But then the other stuff, the

haughty look and the Arrogant heart.

This was Pride. This was arrogance, this wasn't

something punishable. This was not a punishable

offense, but it's something easily recognizable and it's

something David says, I will not tolerate it.

I will not endure it if you're in my house and you're one of my

people and I start to recognize this, I'm not going to tolerate

it. I'm not going to endure you if

that's how you're going to be, so he's laying out.

These aren't the kind of people I want.

Move on to verse 6. He says, though, I will look

with favor on the faithful in the land that they may dwell

with me. He Who Walks in the way?

That is blameless there. We see that phrase again, shall

minister to me. So David is going to reward

those who are faithful. Those who like himself, love

God's law, they love the blameless way.

They love God's precepts and his word and they seek to live by

these. He will reward these Is he will

Elevate. He will bring them into his home

and give them positions around him.

It is those who will dwell with him.

Again, this doesn't just mean come live in my house with me,

like, roommates. It means come be part of my

family and what I'm doing. So they will dwell with him and

then it says they will minister to him.

All that means is assist or serve.

So these are the people David wants to surround himself with.

These are the kind of people he wants being his servants, his

court officials, his right-hand, man.

All of those people in his kingdom would be upright,

faithful, people who love the Lord.

These are the people that would help David live a life of

integrity and they would have People who also valued living a

life of integrity and then he jumps back in verses 7 and 8

talking about the wicked again. No one who practices deceit

shall dwell in my house and no one who utters lies shall

continue before my eyes morning by morning.

I will destroy all the wicked in the land, cutting off, all the

evildoers from the city of the Lord.

So again, he will not tolerate, these kind of people in his

households, they will not serve him in any way, he will destroy

them. Now, we know that David didn't

wake up every morning and go out.

Walking roaming the countryside and roaming, his courts looking

for Wicked people, so he could destroy them literally.

So, this is part of what we see in this Psalm.

That is a foreshadowing of the Messiah and how he would

perfectly fulfill this. David would not tolerate.

These people Christ will destroy these people once and for all

eventually. So we see this this looking

forward to the better David all throughout this Psalm.

Now, this is not all of this, this life of Integrity, this

idea of being a person marked by integrity and surrounding

yourself with people of Integrity.

This wasn't just something David came up with.

This wasn't David's idea that he just fashioned and thought it

would be a great idea or really This is God's idea.

This is God's way. This is part of this blameless

way that we've been reading about scripture is full of

support texts for this Psalm 119 one blessed are those, whose way

is blameless? Who walk in the law of the Lord

Proverbs 1120, those of crooked heart are an Abomination to the

Lord, but those of blameless ways are his delight and John

John 14:23

14:23, Jesus answered him. If anyone loves me He will keep

my word and my father will love him and we will come to him and

make our home with him. You remember back in verse 2 and

he says, when will you come to me?

Jesus says here, I will come to you.

I will make my home with you. Me and the father will make our

home with anyone who keeps our word and loves us.

This is the kind of man, David striving to be.

So, in seeking to live a life of Integrity, David was seeking to

align his heart with God's heart.

He recognized God's ways and God's character and wanted to be

more and more like God to live his life according to God's

ways. Loving God, following God means

conforming to his ways for the blameless way.

David wanted to love what God loves and hate what God hates.

So, you put a high priority on personal and social Integrity,

he wanted to guard his eyes, and his heart and seek to live a

life of Integrity. Even behind closed doors when no

one else was watching. He wanted to put away all evil

from his life. He wanted to surround himself

with people of Integrity, who would do the same and help him

fulfill this mission of following the Lord.

Likewise he would not tolerate anyone who was deceitful or

Wicked because he recognized the importance of what he was trying

to achieve in his kingdom. He understood.

What was at stake here? Those under him.

Would follow his lead in this. They would have to be people

committed to living a life of integrity and it wasn't again

just because he thought that that's a great idea because this

is what God commands his people. This is what all believers are

called to do. It's what you and I are called

to do live lives of Integrity, where we actually follow God,

and we seek to live our lives, according to this book.

So what is this mean? How do we apply this for us

today? I think it's been pretty clear,

but let me just hit a few more things for you, David and his

house and all of Israel were to emulate this attitude and walk

in Integrity. This should lead us to reflect

on the kind of people, we want to be as Christ followers.

Not only should we seek to walk in Integrity personally.

But just like David, we should be careful who we surround

ourselves with we should want to be around other men and women

who value this who are seeking to grow in Christ likeness.

I cannot stress the importance of finding other men and other

women to be in community with weekly where you are feeding off

of one another and growing iron sharpening iron without this.

We cannot grow in this, we are on an island and so you need to

be Surrounded by fellow brothers and sisters, who value this?

Just as much as you do and will help hold you accountable to

this. And not only that, but in every

vein of life, when it comes to elections and who we want,

running our schools, our church, our state, our country, we want

men and women of Integrity who live out the life, they claim to

live who will get things done, who walk the walk.

And don't just talk the talk. And that's why this Psalm was

such a great song for the coronation of a king because

this was the cry. Hi of the nation as a whole.

So remember because it was a coronation Psalm, David wrote

this and it would have been used in his courts.

Later would be used when Solomon became king of be something,

they sang that day and then, for subsequent Kings thereafter.

But I know I'm probably not the only one when I was reading this

to think. No, wait a minute.

David saying he's not going to put anything worthless before

his eyes and he's not going to have a perverse heart, but

wasn't there, that whole Bathsheba thing.

And then Solomon likewise with his many wives quickly fell into

idolatry because of his wives. And so how can they make this

claim when clearly they didn't do it perfectly?

And the answer. Again, is that this is not just

about David and his kingdom, it's not just for the people.

This points toward the better, David, its points toward the

Messiah. A song like this points us

straight to Jesus Christ, it would be the ultimate

fulfillment of this. Only Christ would be the one to

do this perfectly. Only Christ would be the one to

live a perfect life of integrity.

And so he not David is our perfect model for this.

He is what we're aiming for to live our life, like him.

We look to him as the founder and Perfecter of our faith to

help us in this as we seek to do it.

That is what Christian life is all about growing to be more and

more and more and more and more like Christ every single day,

failing every day. But failing forward leaning on

Christ strength. To get us through this to help

us in this constantly, have our gaze, fixed on him, as the one

who did this perfectly. And this is how we align our

hearts with God's heart. We Focus On Christ, we fix our

Gaze on him in the perfect life that he lived to the point of

death on the cross, to pay for our sins to pay for the sins of

David, the sins of Solomon and every believer before.

And after Christ lived, a perfect life so that we can

strive to live a life like him. We as Christians are called to

live lives of Integrity to be men and women marked by

integrity. And so I want to encourage you

this morning to take this. Now, this morning and dwell on

this read this Psalm again with your family this week, talk

about these things consider, what you're putting in front of

your fight, your face in your eyes, consider the way you lead

your family behind closed, doors and be a man and a woman in a

family of Integrity that Love the Lord and hold fast to his

word and cling to it, and don't let the world cling to you.

Amen. I'm gonna invite the worship

As Believers as Christians as people who love the Lord love

Jesus. Again, I want to encourage.

You don't just talk the talk, but walk, the walk everywhere.

And every vein of your life, the people, you surround yourself

with the way you live, your life Behind Closed Doors, if you

claim to be a Christian live, like one.

Okay, don't miss that. I'm going to say that again, if

you claim to be a Christian live, like one.

I'm not just talking about legalism here, I'm talking about

love the Lord seek Him daily gaze upon the Lord, study his

word and live your life according to the blameless ways.

Leaning on Christ the whole time knowing that you're not going to

be perfect in this but through Christ, we have perfect

forgiveness. When we do fail and maybe if

you're in this place and you're an unbeliever, you've never

trusted in Christ as your savior.

If you're guilty of things that we've read about today.

Slander arrogance, Pride to see wickedness, let me tell you.

this text is clear that God is just So, the Wicked, the people

who practice, these things will be destroyed.

But if you're here today and you've never trusted Christ long

as you have breath in your lungs.

It is not too late. Repent, believe the gospel

Believe In Christ. And what he did on that cross

turn from your old Wicked Ways, and follow Jesus and give him

your entire life today. And then from here, on be a

person, marked by a life of integrity.

Where you're seeking a Lord and chasing after that blameless

way. It's not too late to give your

life to God. Today, if you've never done

that, I'll be happy to talk to you about this later.

Father were grateful for all you have done for us.

We're thankful for your son. Jesus the perfect life that he

led a life of Integrity. We are thankful for men like

David who showed us through your word, the importance and the

need and the desire that we should all have to be men and

women of integrity. God help us in this help us in

this Lord help us to live our lives in such a way that we

honor you and everything. We do that we remove anything

that would hinder us from walking with you remove a

perverse heart from us God and fill us with your love and your

spirit. We can walk in your way.

Christ. We love you.

We honor you and we glorify you. We want to live lives that are

pleasing to you. We ask now that you grant us

this in Jesus name, amen? Christ.
