  1. I want to Echo, Jasper. I thank you for being here this

  2. morning. Thank you for coming and

  3. worshipping with us this morning.

  4. And that's what we're going to continue to do.

  5. Here we came, we've we've worshipped through song, we've

  6. worship through giving. Now we will continue to worship

  7. and praise through through God's word, we will be in Psalm 66

  8. this morning, we will be continuing with the psalm series

  9. that we have started. Aligning our hearts with God's

  10. heart, and I've Loved all the Psalms up to this point.

  11. And this one is no different than than the rest.

  12. It's it's going to show us how to, how to another another step

  13. to align our hearts with God's heart.

  14. Here in Psalm 66. My Bible says, how awesome are

  15. you needs talks about this? This is a Thanksgiving Psalm.

  16. Psalm 66 Thanksgiving for God, God's answering To the prayer of

  17. a particular member of God's people will get into that really

  18. in verses 18, and 19 of the text.

  19. Since perhaps it was, especially suited to the occasion, or which

  20. a worshiper brought various sacrifices to express his thanks

  21. and consecration. The Marvel.

  22. This Psalm is the is the way in which the first half roughly

  23. verses 1 through 12 with this references to us as to the

  24. people of God as a whole and to all the earth and its recounting

  25. of God's awesome needs for Israel.

  26. It sets God's Deeds for the particular person in into the

  27. context of his commitment to the people as a whole.

  28. So, the biblical worldview does not require a choice between the

  29. corporate. And then to the particular

  30. person, rather, the particular person experiences God's love.

  31. As a member of God's people. And us today coming together

  32. corporately. We can say the same thing that

  33. we came, we praise. We can come worship God

  34. corporately. But at the same time, each and

  35. every one of us as we're worshipping corporately can

  36. worship personally at the same time and that's kind of what's

  37. going on in this Psalm Charles Spurgeon said, this of Psalm 66.

  38. He said it may be either said or song.

  39. It is a marvellous poem, If it be but red.

  40. But set to suitable music. It would be.

  41. It must have been one of the noblest rains ever heard by the

  42. Jewish people. He continues and says, Praise of

  43. the topic and the subject for the lure for subject.

  44. For the song or the Lord's, great works.

  45. His gracious benefits. His faithful deliverances and

  46. all his dealings with his people brought to a close.

  47. My personal testimony to special kindness received by the prophet

  48. himself. And we don't know who wrote

  49. Psalm 66. It's not specifically mentioned,

  50. a lot of people think that it's it was written by David.

  51. This is, it's in, in a block of Psalms that are considered the

  52. davidic, Psalms that was written by David and then this is one of

  53. the Psalms kind of put right in the bunch right in the middle of

  54. these that We really don't know who wrote it, but it could have

  55. been wrote written by David. But either way is a praise, that

  56. is a Thanksgiving to God. And as we come to our clothes,

  57. in this in this chapter will see that.

  58. The reason that God did this. For this, for this person, he

  59. thinks he's given Thanksgiving. He's giving praise.

  60. He's giving glory to God for what God has done.

  61. Done for him personally. We find out.

  62. It's it's God has done this because of the condition of his

  63. heart. So this morning of entitled, The

  64. Lesson, the teaching this morning, honoring God with a

  65. pure heart. Honoring God with a pure heart.

  66. And we're going to be dividing the scripture up into four

  67. sections this morning for, I see a kind of natural separations.

  68. The first three coming with the word sayla, now this word

  69. carries two possible meanings in this in this psalm, It.

  70. The first it could mean to lift up or to exalt so it was a Tom

  71. to lift up, praise or exalt God's name.

  72. It's also a musical term and it could have meant a pause or

  73. interruption. Which they could go

  74. hand-in-hand, that it could be a pause or Interruption for the

  75. people to ponder. What they just heard up to that

  76. point and in to stop and to ponder on God's goodness, Ponder

  77. on what the singer is has just sung.

  78. And in that pondering moment, it could have been a time of

  79. silence or it could have been in time of loud worship by the

  80. corporate body. So, either way it was, whether

  81. it's, it was quiet contemplation or is the time for loud,

  82. Jubilation, praise and worship by the corporate body.

  83. It's still means a time to ponder what they just heard.

  84. So let's let's get ready to dive into Psalm 66. and I want you

  85. to, Want you to think about this, this morning we was

  86. mentioned earlier, we've praise God with song, we praise God

  87. through worship of giving and I were praising God.

  88. With open it up. God's word.

  89. I really wants to thank this morning on the significance of

  90. what praise does. For praise moves, the heart of

  91. God. Praise moves, the heart of God.

  92. There was a reason why the Psalms are in a bottle.

  93. There's a reason why these songs of praise are here for us to

  94. read. And learn and expound on there

  95. was a reason why King Jehoshaphat sent put the singers

  96. out in front of the Army in second Chronicles chapter 20,

    2 Chronicles 20 chapter mention

  97. when the nation of Judah were seemingly going out to be

  98. slaughtered by 3. Invading armies.

  99. It was a reason why he put the singers in the praisers out

  100. because he knew praise moved the heart of God.

  101. And if you read and second chronicles, as the as they went

  102. out to face this impending Army of three different nations

  103. coming against them. It says as the prey as a singers

  104. and as the prayer appraisers saying and worship God, God said

  105. and bushman's against these people and they caused eat.

  106. They cause these three armies that turn on each other and kill

  107. each other. Before the army, ever got to the

  108. battle. And I want you to think about

  109. that, praise moves. The heart of God.

  110. Praise moves, the heart of God. Let us never forget, the

  111. significance of praise. When we don't feel like it,

  112. praise God. When you're struggling.

  113. Praise God. That's why James could write

  114. kind of doll Joy. When you're going through

  115. various trials and tribulations. Because those would bring what?

  116. It would bring. Person to be complete.

  117. Perfect complete and lacking nothing.

  118. So, when we don't feel like it, praise God.

  119. Anyway. Amen.

  120. When, when everything is Rosy, praise God.

  121. When everything is scary. Praise God.

  122. Because praise moves the heart of God.

  123. And let's stand this morning, if you're able and we're going to

  124. read Psalm 66. Psalm 66 verse 1, it says Shout.

    Psalms 66:1

  125. For joy to God all the Earth, sing the glory of his name.

  126. Give him glorious. Praise say to God.

  127. How awesome are your Deeds? So great is your power that your

  128. enemies come cringing to you all the Earth worships you and sings

  129. praises to you. They sing praises to your name

  130. C'est. Le This is the pause.

  131. To ponder what we just heard. How awesome are his deeds.

  132. All the Earth worships him. Verse 5, it says, come and see

  133. what God has done. He is awesome in his deeds

  134. towards the children of, man, he turned the sea into dry land.

  135. They passed through the river on foot.

  136. They did, we there did we rejoice in him who rules by his

  137. might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nation's.

  138. Let not the rebellious exhaust themselves.

  139. Salo. Once again, a time to ponder why

  140. God has done for the nation as a whole.

  141. Verse 8. It says bless our God o

  142. people's. Let the sound of his praise.

  143. Be heard who has kept our soul among the living.

  144. It has not let our feet slip for you.

  145. Oh God, have tested us. You have tried us as silver is

  146. tried. You brought us into the net.

  147. You later crushing burden in our backs.

  148. You let me and ride over our heads.

  149. We went through fire and through water yet.

  150. You have brought us out to a place of abundance.

  151. I will come into your house with with burnt offerings our perform

  152. my vows to you that which my lips uttered and my mouth

  153. promised when I was in trouble. I will offer to you burnt

  154. offerings of fat and animals with a smoke of the sacrifice of

  155. rams. I will make an offering of bulls

  156. and goats say Allah. And he finishes here in verse

  157. 16. It says coming here.

  158. All you here Fair God and I will tell you what he has done for my

  159. soul. I cried to him with my mouth and

  160. High Praise was on my tongue if I had cherished iniquity in my

  161. heart. The Lord would not have listened

  162. but truly God has listened. He is attended to the voice of

  163. my prayer blessed be God because he has not rejected my prayer or

  164. removed his steadfast love for me.

  165. You made me see you this morning.

  166. Starts off how awesome are his deeds.

  167. How awesome his needs verse verse 1.

  168. It says shout for joy to God all the Earth.

  169. This phrase shout for Joy means to the praise and honor.

  170. To God. And this this there's word here

  171. is the word Elohim Elohim. It is the one true God.

  172. It's also the plural name of God, which represents the Triune

  173. nature of God. God the Father, the Son, and the

  174. Holy Spirit, So shout for joy to God.

  175. All the Earth sing the glory of his name.

  176. Give him glorious praise. Why?

  177. Verse 3, it says say to God, how awesome are your Deeds.

  178. So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you,

  179. these Deeds that are that are talked about here.

  180. These are Deeds of judgment and deeds of Deliverance.

  181. So he is worshipping his telling the people to worship

  182. corporately. On the awesome Deeds of God, the

  183. awesome deliverances of God, but also even worshiping and

  184. thinking for the judgments because because the Judgment

  185. gets get has got them where they are now. you know, the judgments

  186. gets us where we need to be. Amen. so, his deeds are not just

  187. The Deeds of Deliverance but it's the Deeds of Correction.

  188. The gentle Corrections and sometimes the not-so-gentle

  189. corrections that gets us where we need to be with God.

  190. But we should we need to worship God for all his deeds.

  191. It says, the enemies of God will come cringing to you.

  192. This word cringing means to come with fake Allegiance.

  193. It means to that they're found as Liars.

  194. And they are found insufficient. so, you have the nation of

  195. Israel. God's people.

  196. And then you have the enemies of God that come cringing out of

  197. fake. Fake.

  198. Praise fake worship, but God knows.

  199. God knows that they're liars and they're in Sofia there.

  200. Insufficient only pretending to obey and this will be huge later

  201. on as we get into Verse 18. Then we have the word saila,

  202. which as I said means to ponder. Ponder, what his awesome Deeds.

  203. Ponder. His Deliverance has Ponder his

  204. his judgment, his correction. Because it's all of those

  205. combined. That's got the nation of Israel

  206. to this point and verse 5 it says come and see.

  207. Come and see. So we honor God.

  208. Here. Because he has delivered us out

  209. of bondage, into Freedom. This is coming CC, wild more,

  210. the Deeds of Deliverance. These are specifically, the

  211. Deeds of Deliverance for Israel verse 6.

  212. It says he turned the sea into dry land.

  213. They passed through the river on foot there.

  214. Did we Rejoice him? This is referencing the children

  215. of Israel being able to cross over the Red Sea on drug and And

  216. the children of Israel being able to cross over into the

  217. promised land crossing over the river.

  218. When they crossed over the river into the promised, land Over the

  219. River. Jordan, when the hot, when the

  220. priests that were carrying the Ark of the Covenant feet Touch

  221. the Water. The Bible says, then the waters

  222. receded allowed, the children of Israel crossover.

  223. So here in verse 6, he the poet is referencing these things.

  224. The Deeds of provision. That God has done for the nation

  225. of Israel. Verse 7.

  226. He says that God keeps his eyes. He keeps his eyes, keep watch on

  227. the nation's, let not the rebellious exalted themselves.

  228. This this phrase on the nation's is talking about the non Hebrew

  229. people. Talking about the one that that

  230. come cringing before him with fake obedience.

  231. He tells them, let not the rebellious exalt themselves, not

  232. to be lofty, not to raise or Puff themselves up.

  233. And this is, this is their pride.

  234. This is foreshadowing. This is foreshadowing.

  235. The New Testament when they crossed over into the promised

  236. land. It's foreshadowing us Crossing

  237. from death over to life when we accept Christ, as they as they

  238. were taken from Bondage. And walk through the Wilderness

  239. and ended up where God had promised them to be.

  240. We can have that same freedom from the from from bondage as

  241. same Deliverance through the name of Jesus Christ.

  242. You look going to verse 8. It says, bless our God o

  243. peoples. And this is honoring God.

  244. For his Deliverance, has even through the difficult times.

  245. Let's read here in verse 8, it says, bless our God o people's.

  246. Let the sound of its praise. Be heard, who has kept our soul

  247. among the living. He has not let our feet slip for

  248. you. Oh God, have tested us.

  249. You have tried, as silver is tried.

  250. You brought us into the net. You later crushing burden on our

  251. backs. You let me in right over our

  252. heads. We went through fire and Through

  253. water yet. That's a big word to be.

  254. So little yet you have brought us into a place of obedience.

  255. I will come to your house with burnt offerings.

  256. I will perform my vows to you that, which my lips uttered and

  257. my mouth promise. When I was in trouble, I were

  258. offered to you. Burnt offerings, a fatted

  259. animals. With the smoke of the sake

  260. fragrance, sacrifice of rams. I will make an offering of bulls

  261. and of goats. This word in a and verse 8,

  262. says, bless our God. This word blessed means It's the

  263. attitude of the heart, it means to kneel.

  264. It means that Neal with and as an act of adoration to add or to

  265. worship. Praise God.

  266. That's what it means. So when he says bless our God,

  267. it is the heart's condition. It is the heart condition of

  268. that person a lot in their heart up with God's heart as they as

  269. they adore God as they praise God, as they worship, God in the

  270. good times and in the bad, but it is the condition of the

  271. heart. As they worship God.

  272. They don't, they don't come with fake praise and come with

  273. sincere praise. And it is, this is this reaction

  274. is in total contrast of lifting your own self up.

  275. We come humbly before. God, Amen.

  276. But once again, we ask the question, as in the very first

  277. of the, of the psalm. Why bless God?

  278. His deeds have lived of Deliverance and his deeds of

  279. judgment. Verse 9.

  280. He says it's kept our soul among the living and has not let our

  281. feet slip from the beginning. Satan has desired to destroy

  282. God's people. By Elohim, the one true God has

  283. always preserved. A people is his people, and

  284. that's why we can say we're sitting in this building this

  285. morning because we're his people They were tested in verse 10 and

  286. they were tried as silver. Silver goes through a refining

  287. process that goes through a forging process and fire.

  288. We're in the fire. In the impurities in it are

  289. separated Separate is separated from from the silver so that the

  290. silver is pure and undefiled. It's not as popular now.

  291. But how many knows maybe you have it or maybe your parents

  292. have it. They have that big curio

  293. cabinet. With their van child and they're

  294. fine. Silver up there for display

  295. behind the glass. You can't touch it, can't use

  296. it. You know, it's tough but it's

  297. their fine china. That's what we are to God.

  298. When Tommy, the angel comes by and God says Tom.

  299. Hey Tommy. Hey, look behind there.

  300. That's my, that's my kid. That's my kid.

  301. Look how pretty he is. He's look at how fond he is, why

  302. because I would find him as silver.

  303. And I know that silly but that's how God looks at us.

  304. We are his people. Because we have went through the

  305. refining process. Amen.

  306. We have went through. We've went through the dirty

  307. words of Christianity. Testing and trials, tribulations

  308. suffering and sacrifice. There was the those of the dirty

  309. words of Christianity, a joke that those are the curse words

  310. of Christianity. but every single one of them, of, as of

  311. those refine us to get us where he wants us to be in, this, this

  312. is the foreshadow men of the Holy Spirit, sanctification

  313. process, That we are Justified at the moment of Salvation.

  314. And from that moment, the Holy Spirit begins his work in our

  315. life to set to sanctify us to refine us so that God can tap on

  316. on Tommy shoulder. And Heaven, say hey, look at my,

  317. look at my children. Because they are, we find I

  318. refine them as silver, they let me do that.

  319. And now they are perfect. Complete lacking nothing.

  320. We are seated with God in Heavenly places according to

  321. Ephesians chapter 1 and chapter 2.

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  322. Why? Because we're Justified.

  323. We're in his presence, because we're Justified.

  324. We may still be here on Earth. Messing up all the time in the

  325. in the physical. But spiritually we are with God.

  326. We are seated with him in Heavenly places.

  327. Verses 11 and 12, he talks about how God has allowed certain

  328. things, a burden, a crushing burden, the poet writes and Men

  329. riding over their heads. They were ruled by men.

  330. Lots of times. They were ruled by me and

  331. because of their stubbornness Their unwillingness to do what

  332. God wanted them to do. Their continued Disobedience to

  333. follow him. But the last part of verse 12,

  334. that word, yet yet, God brought them and he will bring us into a

  335. place. That would be of abundance.

  336. He'll bring us into a place of abundance if we allow him to.

  337. If we allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify us, raise up beauty

  338. from ashes. And sanctify us and we faunus is

  339. silver. And that leads us into honoring

  340. God. In the last four verses of this

  341. text. We honor God.

  342. By the intentions of our hearts. my wife last few months, she's

  343. And talking about different scriptures.

  344. She's been reading and all connecting to the fault of the

  345. intentions of man's heart. You think about that?

  346. We see on the outside. Since and I know, I've been

  347. using this term a lot lately, but this is where Divine

  348. discrimination comes in God's Divine discrimination.

  349. Because he can look at two things and see, one is a value,

  350. and one is not one is different than the other.

  351. And in our worldly mom, we can't we can't wrap our mind around

  352. that. But God is the only one who is

  353. just enough to do that. And it's because he can see the

  354. intentions of our hearts. This look over verse 16 and

  355. through 20, it says coming here. See earlier, he said, come and

  356. see, come and see what God has done for us corporately.

  357. But now we get into that particular person.

  358. The poet in this text says coming here.

  359. All you who fear God And I will tell you what he has done for my

  360. soul. I cried to him with my mouth and

  361. and High. Praise was on my tongue.

  362. Here it is in verse 18. If I had cherished iniquity in

  363. my heart. The Lord would not have listened

  364. but truly God has listened. He has intended to the voice of

  365. my prayer blessed, be God because he is not rejected my

  366. prayer or removed. His steadfast love from me.

  367. Is this term cherished iniquity in verse 18 means to aim at it.

  368. In the in context, it refers to praying for God's help, to be

  369. able to commit some form of sin, a practice the truly Pious

  370. reject. Therefore It would be a

  371. misinterpretation to read this. As implying.

  372. That absolute sinlessness is a condition for answered prayer

  373. and everybody says amen. It reminds the faithful to pray

  374. for God's help in order to give him.

  375. Thanks and to serve him better. We look at this.

  376. And once again, the the why question comes in, why does God,

  377. why does God listen? First we said, why do we praise

  378. God? Because of his awesome Deeds.

  379. Now, why does God listen to us on an individual basis?

  380. Because God understands the intentions and the motives of

  381. our hearts. the book of Hebrews chapter 4, Verse 1 through 13.

    Hebrews 4:1–13

  382. It says therefore while the promise of entering his rest

  383. still stands, let us fear. Lest any of you should seem to

  384. have failed to reach it for good news, came to us just as to them

  385. who is them? It says the children of Israel.

  386. that left Egypt, went was in the wilderness, headed on,

  387. originally were supposed to go into the promised land, but the

  388. messages says They heard did not benefit them because they were

  389. not United by faith with those who listened for, we who have

  390. believed enter that rest. As he said, as I swore in my

  391. wrath, they shall not enter my rest.

  392. Although his Works were finished from the foundation of the world

  393. for he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way, and

  394. God rested on the seventh day, from all his works.

  395. And again In this passage, he says, Had they should not enter

  396. my rest. since therefore, it remains for some to enter it and

  397. those who formally received the good news, Failed to enter

  398. Because of Disobedience. Again, he appoints a certain day

  399. today saying through David so long afterward in the words

  400. already quoted today, if you hear his voice, do not Harden

  401. your hearts, fourth Joshua had given them rest.

  402. God would not have spoken of another day.

  403. So, if Joshua taken that people of Israel across the river,

  404. Jordan into the promised land would have given them rest.

  405. It says that God would not have spoken of another day later on.

  406. So then there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God for

  407. her ever has entered God's rest as also rested from his works as

  408. God did from his We are Justified.

  409. By faith a man, we enter that rest, let us therefore strive to

  410. enter that rest so that no one may fall by the sword of

  411. disobedience. For the word of God is living
