  1. Hey everybody. My name is Alan and I am one of

  2. Elders and pastors here at New Life Community Church.

  3. If you're new here, the way that we operate is we have a

  4. plurality of Elders, who have an elder team, Kyle, who you just

  5. saw and Jasper, who was up here, playing electric guitar and

  6. myself and then James and Stever are in training right now as

  7. well. And so how we kind of operators,

  8. we have a team so we don't always cause not the only one

  9. that preaches. Luckily I'm not.

  10. Not up here A whole lot. And so today, we are going to be

  11. in Psalm 97 and we're going to end our Psalm series.

  12. We've went through psalms of the last several years throughout

  13. the summer will go through a different Psalm.

  14. And so today, we're ending the series.

  15. So this plane is landing. I told I think is Steven James

  16. earlier that it is planes land in one way or another, you know.

  17. So, we may have a smooth sailing.

  18. We may have a rocky landing and we may crash and burn but we are

  19. Coming to a halt with the Psalms.

  20. All right, so, bear with me. I don't do this a whole lot, but

  21. I do have fun when I do this. So Psalm 97 I'm getting my name

  22. is out. We're going to read it in just a

  23. second. Still got a got a minute to get

  24. there. So this song, before we get into

  25. it, this is a unique. Psalm from the ones that I've

  26. talked about before, the usually the ones that I have got up here

  27. have had a specific author that we know who it is, whether it

  28. been Solomon or David or somebody this one, doesn't this

  29. one doesn't have a any kind of author that we know of, when we

  30. can make some assumptions. But we don't have a specific

  31. timeframe. We can also make some

  32. assumptions and we'll go into some of that later, but this

  33. this is a Psalm that is packed in between a couple other songs

  34. that they would call the enthronement songs, which really

  35. just state that the Lord Reigns, the Lord is glorious, the Lord

  36. rules, Over all of creation. so, before we get into Psalm 97, I

  37. saw a really interesting point this week that I've it hit me

  38. in. So I wanted to, I wanted to talk

  39. about it a little bit. Has anybody ever had one of

  40. those weeks where you go through the week?

  41. And some good things have happened, some bad things have

  42. happened, but at the end of it, you just go, what happened,

  43. like, what in the world this this week?

  44. I don't know what came out of it but I feel like I'm the same

  45. place I was last week and then this week is going to be more of

  46. the same. Anybody ever feel that way just

  47. all this kind of stuff happened and you go what in In the world.

  48. I didn't see that coming. I didn't see this coming and it

  49. just feels like a wash and you go, I'm just going to start

  50. over. He'll start over next week so

  51. that I felt like we had one. We would have one of those

  52. weeks. Did we let my wife down there?

  53. We had one of those weeks I think this week and it got me

  54. thinking and I heard somebody on a sermon that had talked about

  55. this and it got me thing I thought was a really good point.

  56. So there's worldviews that we can approach all kinds of things

  57. from so we can we can approach the world, what's called a

  58. secular worldview and it kind of deals with a lot of that.

  59. And so I want to just Tell you what kind of a secular worldview

  60. would sum up. So it would sum up that the

  61. Universe billions of years ago. Fourteen point five billion or

  62. something like that was just this great expanse.

  63. We don't really know where it came from, we don't know what

  64. happened. And then something happened,

  65. some say, would be a big bang theory.

  66. Some say other things in these billions of stars and planets

  67. and all of this stuff just kind of happened just happenstance by

  68. blind chance. These things came together.

  69. And boom, our universe was created, which is wonderful

  70. because we live in this universe so all this stuff just happened,

  71. right? And then, however, long later

  72. there's a lot of debate somehow organisms and atoms and all this

  73. kind of stuff came together and it started producing this thing

  74. called life and then we move forward long time and then lo

  75. and behold, we are here and we breathe this thing called are,

  76. which also just happens to be here and We can think and we can

  77. do all of this stuff and it really just kind of is what it

  78. is. There's no great explanation.

  79. We've tried to explain it but we're just here And that seems

  80. subtle but that's what a lot of people are taught and it does a

  81. few things. It makes us think that that

  82. statement. It just is what it is and it

  83. also makes this thing saying you do you and I'll do me.

  84. And we'll just all get along. So you do you, you do your

  85. thing, I'll do my thing. And in society now we're seeing

  86. that also translate into you have your truth.

  87. I'll have my truth. And we'll get along and R-Truth

  88. can even be fluid nowadays, which is crazy, which means your

  89. truth can change. Which means my truth may be

  90. different than your truth. But at some time, we can both

  91. change truths and it's all okay. Because it's still just true.

  92. Never heard anything like this and news.

  93. My truth may even be wrong but it's my truth.

  94. You have no right to tell me about my truth.

  95. They may be different and when it relates to the Lord, a lot of

  96. times that goes into either, well, there's a bunch of

  97. different scenarios. I'm going to focus on a few of

  98. them so that could be, there's just no God at all.

  99. This is all just happenstance. Plain and simple.

  100. It could go that we have a higher being that is so loving

  101. that will just all be saved because how in the world could a

  102. loving God. Not save all of mankind and so

  103. it doesn't really matter which God you believe in or any of

  104. this stuff, because that might be your truth.

  105. That's fine. All the paths lead to the same

  106. place. Or it could just be, there's a

  107. mystery, we just don't know. So we're not even going to try

  108. to figure it out. Or you could get to kind of how

  109. solemn gets in an ecclesiastic in a Verge, she still points to

  110. the Lord, but it just is what it is.

  111. It's all meaningless, we live, we die the end.

  112. That's somebody I've sat down with lunch before and I've had

  113. somebody tell me that and it was just so normal for them than it

  114. was when we when we die, we just die.

  115. That's it. And this is a prominent way of

  116. thinking. So if that's how we feel, if

  117. that's our worldview than our main goal in life, is probably

  118. just to be happy. The pursuit of happiness, and

  119. the pursuit of happiness can lead to a lot of things.

  120. It could lead to usually leads to wanting something new to make

  121. us happy. Maybe it's a new job, maybe it's

  122. a new vehicle, or maybe it's, you know, more money or maybe

  123. it's a new spouse or maybe it's a new whatever, this will lead

  124. us to happiness. I'm not happy now.

  125. So in order to get happy in order to have some kind, Kind of

  126. meaning in this life because it's all kind of just

  127. meaningless and and a dire would be to obtain something else that

  128. will make me happy. But at the end of the day, it's

  129. just That's that's really depressing.

  130. I hope you're depressed a little bit and that well that sounds

  131. kind of mean. I hope you're not really

  132. depressed but I kind of do because all of that teaches us

  133. that I'm not important, you're not important and you're going

  134. to live and die the end. And that's really sad.

  135. No, hope in that. Who cares?

  136. What the truth is, if that's like, it doesn't matter.

  137. What if all of that is wrong? What if that entire thing is a

  138. lie, I hope you think it is but maybe you don't what if you are

  139. important. And what if there is a king?

  140. An actual ruler of this universe.

  141. So what if we say rather than that, there is a king and that

  142. this place was created by a designer.

  143. And he designed the cosmos and he designed the planets and he

  144. designed a billions of the stars and he placed them each

  145. individually out in the sky at. However, he decreed, because he

  146. is The Sovereign Lord. And what if we say that he made

  147. Earth, this unique place to inhabit his creation, that would

  148. be us that he would make in his own image.

  149. That would live and breathe and populate the Earth, not just by

  150. happenstance, not by random blind chance.

  151. But because he loved his creation and because it was part

  152. of his story. And so what if he made two

  153. genders a man and a woman, this was truth.

  154. It's not fluid. It was truth because he is

  155. uniquely designed man and woman. And he allowed them to live with

  156. him and he allowed them to walk on the earth.

  157. And he was their God and they were his people.

  158. And then, if somewhere along the lines, not too far off, the

  159. people, disobeyed and sin entered the world.

  160. And then God said in motion his great Redemptive story of Saving

  161. mankind because he values mankind.

  162. Because he has created mankind. What he creates is valuable.

  163. And so what if he leads his people?

  164. out of captivity and he leads them through the desert and all

  165. of these trials and tribulations and it finally gets to where he

  166. sends his only son Jesus, To Earth for the Salvation of his

  167. people. And Jesus, who knew?

  168. No sin lived the perfect life. For us.

  169. So that his father may be glorified so that he may redeem

  170. his people through his blood. He's dead and he was buried.

  171. He was raised, he conquered death for us.

  172. He conquered death to glorify his father.

  173. And he promised that one day he would return for us and lead us

  174. to a new Heaven and a new Earth. Where we would again get to walk

  175. and be with him and he would be our God and we would be his

  176. people that his glory would be made known.

  177. And that he loves you very, very much.

  178. That you're not just a number. Of the millions of people have

  179. her many people, there are that he actually knows your name.

  180. He knows you, you're not just a pawn, in some grand scheme.

  181. You're not just a vessel that, he just uses.

  182. However, he sees fit that you are more than that to him.

  183. It's you are a son or a daughter of the king.

  184. He'll be in the king That You're Made In His Image to glorify

  185. himself. But you are important to him.

  186. For, he is your king. He's not only just your king,

  187. he's King of Everything. The Lord Reigns.

  188. So this is his truth, this right here.

  189. We don't get to dictate the truth.

  190. This is this is truth. This is his truth.

  191. The word of the Lord. Let's read Psalm 97.

  192. If you will, please stand with me.

  193. Says this, the Lord Reigns. Verse 1, the Lord Reigns let the

  194. Earth Rejoice. Let the many coastlands be glad

  195. clouds and thick Darkness are all around him righteousness and

  196. Justice are the foundation of his throne.

  197. Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries adversaries

  198. all around his Lightnings light up the world, the Earth sees and

  199. trembles the mountains melt like Wax before the Lord, before the

  200. Lord of all the Earth. The heavens Proclaim, his

  201. righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

  202. All worshippers of images are put to shame who make their

  203. boast in worthless Idols worship Him.

  204. Are you God's Zion? Here's and is glad and the

  205. daughters of Judah rejoiced because of your judgments O,

  206. Lord For You O Lord, our most high over all the Earth you are

  207. exalted far above all gods. Oh, you who love the Lord hate

  208. evil. He preserves the lives of his

  209. Saints. He delivers them from the hand

  210. of the wicked light is sown for the righteous and the joy of the

  211. upright and heart rejoice in the Lord.

  212. Oh you righteous and give thanks to his holy.

  213. Let's pray. Father, thank you for your word.

  214. Thank you for your goodness. We acknowledge you as king.

  215. King of Kings, as Lord of lords, this morning Lord, help us see

  216. you Who you are help us submit Lord.

  217. You will? We ask that you speak to us

  218. spirit, guide us in Jesus. Christ's name.

  219. Amen. So I propose not just what if

  220. all of those statements are true but I propose that is the truth

  221. and hopefully you would agree with that that this word is

  222. truth and in that and we're going to get into this in a

  223. minute in that means we need to stand firm on the word of the

  224. Lord. That secular worldview that we

  225. were talking about is there are a lot of nuances so I don't want

  226. to act like that. It's all 100 across the board

  227. but that is the leading view of most higher.

  228. Ation. That kind of blanket statement

  229. that things just happened. You know, there's a whole

  230. scientific thing that they'll get in that that we can get into

  231. how they think things might have happened but that it all

  232. happened, it's happened stance. We have evolved and we have no

  233. idea what happens after this life.

  234. Some would say that. Yeah, there's just a higher

  235. being someone say, you know, you'll hear on TV or you'll hear

  236. friends that just say, well, we hope to see you on the other

  237. side because this the Lord saves all But the truth of God's word

  238. doesn't say any of that. But that is the the kind of the

  239. predominant teaching on any kind of higher education in America.

  240. It is not the truth of the Bible.

  241. So, Psalm 97 mentioned this earlier a little bit, this is

  242. part of what they've called some of the enthronement.

  243. Psalms 96 97 98, I think maybe Psalm 43.

  244. There's a couple of these and they call them that simply of

  245. stating that this is that the Lord Reigns, The Lord sits on

  246. the throne he is in power, he is in in control.

  247. He is the king of all of the Earth.

  248. But let's get into some of these verses here.

  249. I'm going to try not to ramble or go off too many rabbit holes.

  250. Try to stay on track as best as I can.

  251. So verse 1, the Lord Reigns let the Earth Rejoice, let the many

  252. Coastal lands be glad and how I like to do this at works for my

  253. brain. Hopefully, it does for y'all is

  254. I like to break things down into parts and then I like to just go

  255. by on verse by verse. So we've only got 12 here.

  256. Luckily, it's more than 3 and but luckily it's not like 37

  257. either. So I think my brain would

  258. explode. So there's kind of three parts.

  259. The first six verses, which is kind of interesting I help do

  260. music up here a lot and we, of take this approach to a lot of

  261. the songs that we sing is we use this, Not method.

  262. I don't know what you want to call it, but usually the first

  263. song or so that we're seeing and we want us to sing together,

  264. maybe about the Lord to help prepare our hearts for who he

  265. is. And then we'll slowly try to

  266. transition into singing more directly to the Lord saying you

  267. are good. God, you are good and then we

  268. may even end by again saying hallelujah.

  269. Hey you people let's praise the Lord together.

  270. The psalmist, kind of orchestrated like that.

  271. So the first six verses the psalmist is going to be talking

  272. of How how marvelous the Lord is, how great he is.

  273. How Grandy is, how much he reigns in power?

  274. And then we'll get into verse 9. He turns it and he says, For

  275. You, O, Lord our most high. He speaking directly to the

  276. father and then he ends with a proclamation to his people that

  277. say, you who love the Lord Rejoice, so he spends a little

  278. bit of moment saying how great he is.

  279. Then he turns his attention to the Lord and says, father, you

  280. are good. Good.

  281. And then he turns back to the people and says, you also

  282. rejoice in the Lord. So that's kind of how it's

  283. broken now. So let's go to verse 1, the Lord

  284. Reigns let the Earth Rejoice. Let the mini coastlands be glad

  285. So the whole earth rejoicing, the bottom of that, it says, let

  286. the coastlines be glad your version may say Islands or owls

  287. or something to that effect, what it's getting at this was

  288. this was something. They used a lot old, biblical

  289. authors, around the Mediterranean Sea and all that.

  290. So they're not speaking of the coastlands like Florida

  291. necessarily, they don't really know Florida existed, but

  292. they're speaking of all the coastlands that they knew simply

  293. as a way to say all of the Nations everywhere.

  294. They New be glad Rejoice Rejoice.

  295. Let the many coastlands be glad and there's some debate on this

  296. song as to whether this is, simply poetry, as we'll see in a

  297. minute or if it's really more prophetic.

  298. Speaking of his second coming, but either way, it is

  299. proclaiming all of the earth rejoice in the Lord.

  300. Why do we rejoice in the Lord? He Reigns and so we'll get into

  301. some of that. So, verse 2, Clouds and thick

  302. Darkness are all around him. Righteousness, and Justice are

  303. the foundation of his throne. This answer is the why.

  304. We can we can Rejoice that the Lord Reigns because

  305. righteousness and Justice are his foundation.

  306. So this is a god, The God Who is Almighty all-powerful, but he is

  307. not a tyrant. This is not a domineering God

  308. this is a loving gentle kind just.

  309. Holy worthy, God. And because of that, we can

  310. Rejoice that he is our King. We don't Rejoice just because we

  311. have a king. We have a we Rejoice because he

  312. is our King and those are his characteristics now.

  313. The clouds and the thick darkness.

  314. When I first read them were a little strange to me to be

  315. honest because It says be glad and then it goes like really

  316. dark like clouds and darkness are all around Rejoice.

  317. Whoo. I'm like that's kind of scary

  318. but if we go back to Exodus I think it's sexist 17.

  319. Think it's X's 17 where 19 19 verse 17, where we're Moses on

  320. Mount Sinai. This is right before the Ten

  321. Commandments and we see a lot of this imagery in the Old

  322. Testament where God is surrounded by 5.

  323. Or will read that here in the next verse or he's surrounded by

  324. thick his thick presence on Mount Sinai.

  325. When Moses goes up there, there was a, you know, a thick cloud

  326. of darkness and it ends up his glory as shown.

  327. And we see him lead the people through a, you know, pillar by

  328. day and Fire by night. So the imagery here is

  329. consistent with with what they would have known back in back in

  330. these times. It's showing his marvelousness,

  331. it's showing that his presence rains that he is powerful clouds

  332. and thick Darkness are all around him, it surrounds him but

  333. his foundation of How He Reigns as a king sitting on Throne his

  334. foundation, our righteousness and justice Verse 3, it says

  335. fire goes before him and burns up his adversary.

  336. I keep want to say adversaries I think that's the wrong word

  337. adversaries. Yeah his adversaries all around

  338. verse 4. It says his Lightnings light up

  339. the world the Earth sees and trembles the mountains melt like

  340. Wax before the Lord before the Lord of all the Earth as joking

  341. with with with Kyle a couple weeks ago.

  342. So I was gonna have like a like a science fair a demonstration

  343. up here in build like a volcano and have it melt be like, that's

  344. cool. The whole mountain of the thing.

  345. These verses really just they're getting at the power, its

  346. imagery that they're used as the power and Majesty of God, thick

  347. clouds around him fire goes before him.

  348. He is already won the victory. Nothing can stand in the way of

  349. our all-powerful, God, He clears the path.

  350. Things that we might see as unmovable.

  351. Mountains anybody's ever been to the Grand Canyon or there's a

  352. great Teton Mountains out in Wyoming.

  353. We went on a honeymoon to Yellowstone.

  354. Just gigantic mountain ranges that man can't do anything with.

  355. These are immovable objects. Says they melt like Wax, like

  356. nothing. His Lightnings light up the

  357. entire world, the Earth sees and trembles at his great power and

  358. his great Majesty. The imagery fires me up because

  359. I don't think of the Lord this way most of the time. after

  360. really be made to think of the Lord this way because I think of

  361. the Lord as shaming lead to say a lot of times there's my buddy

  362. remember when I was in Youth Group, there's a t-shirts with

  363. Jesus as my homeboy, you know, my boy blue.

  364. I'm a friend of God. We are his friend, but he is

  365. also all-powerful All powerful mountains.

  366. Don't stand a chance. The Earth doesn't stand a

  367. chance. Great Heavens.

  368. Don't stand a chance like the universe doesn't stand a chance

  369. him. Nothing can stop him.

  370. He goes before he clears the way.

  371. Could you imagine what it would be like, if the presence of the

  372. Lord, just burst through this room right now, like, like, like

  373. truly what we see in the Old Testament.

  374. Like, I think there's a reason that they would fall down and

  375. say, as if I'm dead, they're terrified.

  376. Like in Luke when the angel appears to them and says they

  377. just fall down and he says no no do not be afraid.

  378. You don't have to be afraid and even the angels even just the

  379. presence is terrifying because of his power.

  380. We should fear and respect the Lord because he is good.

  381. Okay, verse 6. The heavens Proclaim, his

  382. righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory.

  383. We will see his glory and this, you know, this could simply just

  384. be poetry. There is also some debate on if

  385. this talking about eschatology, which is really just like a big

  386. old word for the end of the last days.

  387. So if this is talking about, you know, his, his final coming, But

  388. either way, all people, all of us.

  389. Will glorify his name. Because whether we want to admit

  390. this truth or not, he is King. Regardless of, if you call him

  391. He is King. That is truth. when I will go

  392. into verse 7, It says all worshippers of images are put to

  393. shame who make their boast in worthless Idols worship him.

  394. All you Gods. That's a little G Gods there

  395. too. So did you know that you're a

  396. worshipper and something So it may be that your worship of

  397. Lord, you may come in here and you and you might even use the

  398. Christian language of. Yeah.

  399. I'm a worshipper. But if you don't that you're a

  400. worshipper of something, some kind of idol that you've got in

  401. your life, it could be your family, these could be good

  402. things, but we're not to be a worshipper of anything other

  403. than the Lord could be a family. It could be for me it could be

  404. music or got to throw it in there WWE I love that stuff.

  405. Is so great, could be a worshipper of work.

  406. You could be a worshipper of your kids.

  407. Could be a worshipper of money of things.

  408. Kind of going back to that secular worldview.

  409. But in some regard, you are a worshipper of something and this

  410. is good to be made known of. Because if you're not

  411. worshipping the Lord, you are devoting yourself to something

  412. else. So today, hopefully, this is a

  413. call to say devote yourself to the Lord.

  414. Why? Because his righteousness and

  415. Justice are the foundation of his throne.

  416. That's why we can trust him. But there's a really cool story

  417. in Romans, not in Romans, I'm sorry, it's Paul, but it's an

  418. Axe. And this is one of the stories

  419. that really kind of helped unlock my brain to really want

  420. to dive in and study the Bible and some of the historical stuff

  421. in the Bible. So in Acts Well, the Josh

  422. there's a there's a slide I just gave is the only slide I have

  423. and I just gave it to Josh like three minutes before we started.

  424. And so he's a real MVP guys. This is the Temple of Artemis.

  425. This is in. No, I'm sorry.

  426. This is not, this is the Parthenon in Athens.

  427. And it was a big ol structure, just put it that way.

  428. And then in Ephesus, somewhere else in the Bible, there's a

  429. place, there's a thing called the Temple of Artemis, that

  430. would have said to have been about double that size.

  431. And I show you that because what they would do in Athens

  432. particular back then. But in this Roman culture, that

  433. Paul would have been in is they would build all of these kind of

  434. statues these images and they would worship them.

  435. And a lot of what we call Greek mythology came or was around

  436. back then. And so they mean, they would

  437. have a god of sun, they would have, you know, like a Moon God,

  438. or just you name it pretty much. They found something to worship

  439. that they didn't understand and they said we're going to, we're

  440. going to worship this. And so when it says this worship

  441. of images, there's a story back in Acts 17, where Paul is in.

  442. I don't know if he's actually in this or not but he's in Athens

  443. and he would have been around this culture and he finds he's

  444. walking amongst them and he hears them worship and all these

  445. things. And he finds this inscription

  446. that says to an unknown. God Which I find fascinating

  447. because the people there were just as silly as we are today

  448. and they're worshiping things. They don't even understand.

  449. They don't know how it works. They don't even know who this

  450. God is. But they're like, you know what,

  451. there might be another God out there that we don't know about.

  452. So we're just going to worship this unknown.

  453. God, we're going to devote our attention to this unknown.

  454. God. But that story really helped me

  455. click for understand the Bible because I'm like, oh man, I've

  456. always heard of this app and stuff.

  457. That's, that's right here in the Bible.

  458. It would have been something like this.

  459. It would have been a massive structure.

  460. I mean, the Parthenon itself, which is what that is.

  461. The remnants of was one of the, what we would call the 7th

  462. Wonders of the World mean it's like upon a big hill.

  463. I mean, that is like Stone and Marble.

  464. It's a engineering just genius for back in the time and they

  465. would have had even a bigger one.

  466. Another place that they worshipped all kinds of gods in

  467. but not the Lord. So Paul.

  468. Believes that the Lord is powerful in Mighty and he

  469. believes enough in that that he walks in.

  470. And he he sees this and he's like, let me tell y'all who you

  471. should be worshipping. Let me tell you about the one

  472. true God. And so, when you get time, go

  473. read acts 17 in there and he just lays it out for him.

  474. He's like this is who Created the world.

  475. This is who you should be worshipping.

  476. This is God, the god, the one true God almighty.

  477. Because all other things are going to be put to shame.

  478. And not just our the image is going to be put to shame.

  479. It says all worshippers of images are put to shame who make

  480. their boast in worthless Idols things are worthless.

  481. So then in verse 7, it says worship him, all you Gods,

  482. little Jeep, all this other stuff worship, the one true God

  483. verse 8 says, Zion here's and is glad that could easily be

  484. translated like Israel is here's and is glad and the daughters of

  485. Judah Rejoice because of Judgments of Lord, this is

  486. representing represents Israel. What this is saying is because

  487. of who he is, we can Rejoice that.

  488. There is salvation coming for our people.

  489. Again, the Lord has promised that he will be returning.

  490. So, Zion hears and is glad. And then in verse 9, he turns

  491. his attention to the Lord and he says For You O Lord are most

  492. high over all the Earth. You are exalted far above all

  493. gods. I don't wake up saying that

  494. enough. I don't wake up saying.

  495. Lord, you are high above. All you are exalted.

  496. I can say that easily when I'm here.

  497. I said it easily when I'm surrounded by believers.

  498. But far too often when I'm not. I think I live more of the

  499. secular View. Of a wake up.

  500. It's another day. Got to do what I got to do.

  501. Do my little check boxes. We're not called just to check

  502. boxes off, we're called to wake up each day and say God you are

  503. exalted, you are Lord, you are higher than anything else.

  504. Verse. 10 verse 10. Hit me like a ton of bricks.

  505. He turns back to the people. So he's just kind of told him

  506. how powerful God is. He said mountains can melt like

  507. Wax you know nothing stands a chance in his way then he turns

  508. to God and he says Lord you are exalted, you are high above all

  509. else and then he turns back to his people and he says o you who

  510. love the Lord hate evil hate evil.

  511. And I know for me far too often I am.

  512. What's the word for Passive with evil?

  513. Like the things that I might watch, don't tell people that I

  514. hate evil. I may say, well, I don't say

  515. that I wouldn't do that, I don't support it.

  516. But I still watch it. I'll still be around it.

  517. But he's saying the things it says, you who love the Lord hate

  518. evil. So as Believers were not called

  519. just to idly Stand By and not speak out on some of these other

  520. truths. We are called to call it for

  521. what it is. And hate evil.

  522. That's one of the things I'm most thankful for here at this

  523. church. Specifically with Kyle and

  524. Jasper's when they get up here, there is no.

  525. Hesitation about saying, this is who we are.

  526. This is what we stand for. We stand for the Bible.

  527. It may not be popular and it may not be what everybody really

  528. wants to hear because it's not really just going to make you

  529. feel good. What's there's a guy named Ben

  530. Shapiro. What's he saying?

  531. The facts don't care about your feelings, right?

  532. So the Old feelings, kind of justify the facts.

  533. So how we feel means, this either must be right, or it must

  534. be wrong. The Bible doesn't do that.

  535. The Bible lays out, the word of the Lord, and the word of the

  536. Lord at times is very I don't know the words, I'm even trying

  537. to say now. It's very pointed can always

  538. just skirt around you know, some of these topics.

  539. And so I really appreciate you doing that Cal really appreciate

  540. you doing that Jasper. Steven.

  541. James y'all do it to these two guys.

  542. We see all the time. My brain will focus on.

  543. Okay. Well that's the.

  544. How do I say this in the right way?

  545. And a lot of times it's like there's no right or wrong just

  546. say it. Because the word of the Lord is

  547. good, and if we say, we love the Lord, we should hate evil.

  548. So things that are adamantly against the word of the lord, we

  549. should be opposed to And I like nuances, I'm a Nuance kind of

  550. guy, like things that go, but there's really not a lot of

  551. nuance in the things that are evil.

  552. Generally. I want to hate even more, says,

  553. he preserves the lives of his Saints.

  554. He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

  555. Only the Lord. Can preserve our souls.

  556. Only him. There is nothing in this world.

  557. This world can tear us down. This world can beat us up.

  558. This world can take everything that we've got persecute us.

  559. We can. Be completely terrible, stewards

  560. of everything. We've got But our soul is in the

  561. hands of the Lord. He holds it.

  562. He keeps it, we can be secure in him because going back to verse

  563. to hear his throne is built. His foundation is built on

  564. righteousness and Justice. He is Holy and he's worthy.

  565. Verse 11, it says light is sown for the righteous and the joy

  566. and joy for the upright in heart.

  567. Our happiness that we may be pursuing is is not from this

  568. world. Our happiness is actually sewn

  569. by the Lord. he goes before, says the song, I don't know I

  570. don't think we've saying it here but it's a song I've always

  571. liked that kind of takes from Second Kings, where Elijah wakes

  572. up and their whole tent is surrounded by all these enemies

  573. and all the people are scared and he wakes up and he says,

  574. Don't Be Afraid those that are with us are more than those with

  575. Bim and it says that the Lord opens his eyes and he sees the

  576. God of Angel Armies surrounding watching out for from them.

  577. That they're not alone that you're not alone in the song.

  578. Says, I know who goes before me, I know who stands behind.

  579. It says the God of Angel. Armies is always by my side but

  580. it's a it's this image that the Lord has already prepared the

  581. path. He's already cleared.

  582. He's already made the way the victory is his.

  583. There may be a battle but he is there, he's already done it.

  584. He's already guarding behind you as well.

  585. He is around you. We may not see it, we may not

  586. always feel it but his truth doesn't rely on our feelings.

  587. Right. Verse 12 and it kind of wraps.

  588. The whole thing up. It says rejoice in the Lord O

  589. you righteous and give thanks to His holy name.

  590. So us that would call ourselves Believers can rejoice in him

  591. because he is righteous, he is good, his foundation is firm,

  592. this Foundation is made on Justice.

  593. He is not a tyrant, he is a loving God.

  594. And he contrasts the whole thing that I'm not important in,

  595. you're not important at none of this matters with you are.

  596. So very important to him because he has created you that he has

  597. made a way through Christ to be with him all of our days.

  598. And that one day, we will be with the Lord.

  599. That is the goodness of Jesus. That is the greatness of his

  600. majesty. So, we can rejoice.

  601. We can rejoice and say thank you.

  602. Lord. We're sewing your righteousness

  603. for placing joy in my heart. And for being good. this was a

  604. really cool song for me to for me to get into I'm going to ask

  605. the worship team to come up. And we're going to sing a song

  606. in a second. That just says, the goodness of

  607. Jesus. And some of the lyrics it says,

  608. oh the goodness of Jesus satisfied, he is all we need.

  609. And this song points us to Christ in a few different ways.

  610. So this is part of the Old Testament and one of the things

  611. that we know about the Old Testament is that they knew a

  612. messiah was coming. So there's a lot of language

  613. that points to a messiah to Salvation coming, but Jesus had

  614. not yet been on the earth. And so now we can look with the

  615. lens of the New Testament and the New Testament helps us

  616. interpret what the Old Testament was getting at what it means.

  617. and we can say with confidence that Jesus Reigns, That he is

  618. all in all that Christ Reigns? We can say with confidence that

  619. Jesus will be an is exalted. High above all other names.

  620. There is no name like his And we can confidently, say verse to

  621. hear the righteousness and Justice are the foundation of

  622. his throne that he will Deliver Us from the hand of the wicked.

  623. That he preserves our lives that he saves that in Christ.

  624. We can find Salvation that in Christ, we can have Grace and

  625. forgiveness. That in Christ.

  626. We can say, Lord, we submit to you.

  627. You've made a way we can be grateful and thankful.

  628. For who he is. so, as we sing this out the goodness of Jesus,

  629. I want to pray first and I'm going to pray that let the Lord

  630. help you. And me.

  631. See his grandness and his power and his majesty. it's not just

  632. another song just to sing a song but that we can Fervently

  633. proclaim, the goodness of Christ because his throne is Justice

  634. and righteousness. Lord, we love you.

  635. You are high and exalted above all the Earth.

  636. Lord, who are we that you are mindful of us for your

  637. all-powerful? We are weak.

  638. Sometimes it feels that we roam the Earth, but we know because

  639. your word says it that you value US.

  640. You value a so much because we are created in your image.

  641. We thank you for being the Creator for being the designer.

  642. We thank you for your son Jesus. The Salvation that you and you

  643. alone have offered. Not of our works.

  644. As we cannot boast about it. Lord, this is a view.

  645. You are king and you are Lord help us to submit to you daily.

  646. Christ name.
