  1. It's good to see you guys this morning.

  2. My name is Kyle service lead Pastor here.

  3. If you're visiting today, I want to say thanks for being here.

  4. Glad you're here, worship with us, I'm going to have you turn

  5. to your Bibles to two places in your Bibles today.

  6. First, we'll look at a verse in Romans 11.

  7. We'll look at verse 36 here in a moment and then the bulk of our

  8. reading really will come from Genesis chapter 3.

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  9. But you can look at, you know, you can kind of hold your finger

  10. at one. If you want.

  11. I'll read a couple of verses from there.

  12. But largely will be in Genesis chapter 3 as we expound on what

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  13. we're going to see in Romans 11. So they were going to go

  14. together. But today, what we're doing is

  15. we're starting a new series series is called what happens

  16. when we worship. And so, in this series of the

  17. next 13 weeks, we're going to examine the Theology of worship,

  18. the anatomy of worship, and what we should do in response to

  19. those things that we see in God's word, going to look at How

  20. do we worship? But what happens when we worship

  21. today? Our topic is created to worship.

  22. You have been created to worship.

  23. You are created for worship, you are wired for worship.

  24. And so I want to talk to you about the origin.

  25. The purpose, the means of worship and and help that inform

  26. the lives that we live. Hopefully in worship to the

  27. Lord. And so if you would, would you

  28. stand with me as we read a Romans 11:36?

    Romans 11:36

  29. It's allowed. God's word says, in Romans 11:36

    Romans 11:36

  30. for from him. That is from the Lord and

  31. through him, and to him are all things to him, be glory forever.

  32. Amen. This is God's.

  33. Holy word. Thanks be to God.

  34. Let me pray. Heavenly Father we praise you

  35. for your word and a verse as simple as Only several words.

  36. Says so much about why. We're here.

  37. What our purpose is how we got here.

  38. The Lord is my hope. It is my prayer that today, we

  39. would see from your word that we were created for worship.

  40. And in many ways we are always worshipping.

  41. Father is you were well aware at times we get our worship wrong.

  42. At times, we worship in ways that we, like, we worship things

  43. that we think are worth worshiping.

  44. And so, our worship is misplaced misunderstood at times.

  45. It's sinful. So Lord, we ask that you would

  46. help us to regain as we go through this series over the

  47. next few weeks. We gain an understanding of what

  48. Biblical worship is that you have not been silent on worship,

  49. but that you have spoken clearly from your word on how we are to

  50. worship. So Lord help us to grasp that

  51. Vision, help us to understand your word, help us to apply it.

  52. So Lord, we in that prayer, we are desperate for your Holy

  53. Spirit to give us insight to give us understanding and

  54. knowledge and wisdom on how to apply it.

  55. Or we need you to sanctify, our hearts and Minds by your spirit,

  56. through the washing of your word today.

  57. We are dependent upon you as we open up your word as we read

  58. from it, as we see it. So, Lord, I pray that you help

  59. me along in this help me to proclaim the excellencies of

  60. Christ today. It having heard today.

  61. The people do not hear Kyle they hear Christ reach.

  62. That his word is a bomb into their souls, that it's not me.

  63. Lord help us to be devoted fully to your son, Jesus Christ, name

  64. I pray. Amen.

  65. Amen. You may be seated So when I say

  66. worship, which I've said multiple times already, it's

  67. most likely that you envisioned like the singing part of the

  68. service, right? When we say worship often, we

  69. think that worship is, its, are singing.

  70. And that's really, by Design over the last several decades,

  71. and depending on your church background, you may even

  72. Envision like private singing to God in your home or maybe even

  73. your in your chair at church, you know.

  74. We're kind of raised at times to think that worship happen.

  75. Right there in your seat or your Pew.

  76. And it's just between you and the Lord.

  77. And it's really, it's all about your experience.

  78. These understandings are the result of what we might call the

  79. Contemporary worship movements, which is really popular.

  80. It's done a lot for church growth, it's done a lot for

  81. modernizing things and not that everything that's come out of.

  82. It has been wrong but much of it is misplaced by Design.

  83. There's really a long history that we don't have time to get

  84. into fully today. And so, I'd like to just provide

  85. a brief explanation of the roots of contemporary worship.

  86. Contemporary worship, the idea that it's about your singing and

  87. that singing must move you to some emotional feeling kind of

  88. stir you up in some way, the roots of that or Pentecostalism

  89. and revivalism the birth out of those things of a goal and

  90. Pentecostalism or Pentecostal worship is to provide the

  91. worshipper with A personal experience with God, a personal

  92. encounter with God. And so, you'll hear that

  93. language often that you come and see the presence of God, come

  94. experience the presence of God With Us, come experience, a move

  95. of the spirit. God is on the move here.

  96. God is doing great things in this worship service.

  97. You know, you don't want to miss this.

  98. And that's that is its purpose is to stir up the emotions of

  99. the worshipper so much so that he or she feels like they have

  100. worshipped God. There's Goose he's and there's

  101. chills and there's palpitating heart beats and maybe sweat

  102. revivalism is really much in the same vein.

  103. They kind of entered the scene really around the same time as

  104. in the 1800s and revivalism got its jump.

  105. Start with a man named Charles Finney.

  106. He's really kind of the founder of revivalism in the 1800's, a

  107. finished purpose, Finney was a traveling preacher and he would

  108. preach Revival services and his purpose for these.

  109. Revival Services was to stir up the emotions of those in

  110. attendance so much so that it forced them to make a decision

  111. for Jesus. Am I call these salvations?

  112. They might call them decisions but it was a decision is MM.

  113. It's just largely based on their emotions.

  114. He was playing on the emotions of the congregation in song.

  115. How many of you know that song Moves you right like you hear a

  116. song and you go back to moments in your life where you first

  117. heard that song over that song is connected to some feeling or

  118. something, right? For should I have a song that

  119. you know, that we share? Air between us.

  120. That's it's a, you know, a lot of songs so when I hear that

  121. song played my mind is in raptured with just visions of

  122. Patricia, like all the moments we've had in our life, right?

  123. This is what music does? It moves people?

  124. It's created by God to move people.

  125. But it's like any tool that God gives us can be misused and so

  126. Finney would play on the emotions of the congregation in

  127. song. He would especially do this in

  128. his preaching and most of all he would do it with emotionally

  129. driven altar calls. Then he was quoted.

  130. He wanted to find these quotes about this was he says, yes, the

  131. spirit works, but we must work first.

  132. Did you see how that is backwards?

  133. Yes, the spirit works. But we must work first.

  134. So, this makes God dependent upon us for all things

  135. pertaining to our godliness. It puts man first, he must move

  136. if God is going to move. And so, contemporary worship

  137. takes shape in light of early Western Pentecostalism and

  138. revivalism it has been a wide sweeping movement over the last

  139. several decades. Now throughout church history,

  140. worship has sorry, worship was understood as the entire Lord's

  141. day service. We us why we call this our

  142. worship service, over. When we come together to worship

  143. God, it's not that we just come together to sing.

  144. We come to seeing, yes, but we come to pray together.

  145. We come to hear the word Todd. We come to preach the word.

  146. We come to read the scriptures, we come to celebrate the Lord's

  147. Supper like we'll do today. We come for baptisms when we

  148. have those right? There's lots of things about.

  149. There's several things that go into a worship service.

  150. But the emphasis in contemporary worship is is on the worshipper.

  151. it's on the the song part of the service, especially And so, the

  152. emphasis is taken off of the one being worshipped.

  153. And it's put on the one who is worshipping songs are written

  154. and performed in such a way, as, to stir up, the emotions of the

  155. worshipper to manipulate their feelings.

  156. So that they feel like they have worship, which might lead to a

  157. greater response during the altar call, if a church has one

  158. and largely, it's emotional manipulation.

  159. Most of us have been discipled in this most of us.

  160. Just, this is learned behavior and so I don't really blame

  161. congregations for this. I blame leaders for this blame

  162. pastors for this. It happens in churches across

  163. the globe, it happens in churches across our County, it's

  164. happening right now. I've attended several of these

  165. churches, in my time in Magnolia, which is a life.

  166. The service starts large often with an upbeat song, the song of

  167. praise and then it moves into a slower song and then oftentimes

  168. an even more slower song which is called worship song.

  169. The first song is a praise song, these songs are now worship

  170. songs and before it might it'll finally wrap up with a fourth

  171. song that is either another upbeat song or a slow song

  172. depending on what is planned for the sermon that day.

  173. So the transition to the sermon becomes easier based on what

  174. kind of song you end with when the preacher is finished.

  175. You sing something like just as I am 17 times until people

  176. respond to the preachers call appropriately, right?

  177. Until the spirit has moved. I can remember sitting in

  178. worship services and the preachers saying, you know, at

  179. 12:15. After he's preached, after we've

  180. seen more, more singing is happening.

  181. More calling upon the holy spirit to move on us is

  182. happening. And he's saying, we're not

  183. leaving this place. Until we sense the presence of

  184. the spirit. It's wrong.

  185. It's false teaching. It's ungodly.

  186. It's sacerdote ilysm really is what it is.

  187. It's and and that means that it is.

  188. It's all about the emotions of something and you're having to

  189. sacrifice sacramentalism. Sorry, it's all about.

  190. The things that are being performed to make the certain

  191. experience happen. It's Roman Catholic and approach

  192. is what it is. And so the service starts that

  193. way and ends that way. And the result is an emotionally

  194. manipulative people go away thinking that they have

  195. experienced God possibly even responding and what they think

  196. or they're told is Faith In Jesus because they raise their

  197. hand and the preacher. Pray to congregational prayer

  198. over them. And then what happens, these

  199. people who have this emotional stirred up experience flame out

  200. at some point, because Emotions, Don't Last, you can't carry that

  201. emotional High into the rest of your life, that emotional high

  202. was caused by everything happening in that service, that

  203. force, that person to make that decision.

  204. You can't maintain that in your daily lives, the Christian Life,

  205. as we say, around here, as Eugene, Peterson wants to.

  206. It's a long Ants in the same direction.

  207. Right, it's day after day waking up and living for the lord, it's

  208. showing up to worship services and worshiping god with the

  209. congregation. It's not about stirring up.

  210. Emotions are emotions that go into it.

  211. Absolutely, absolutely. Their emotions that go into

  212. Charles Finney also said this. He said a Revival is not a

  213. miracle. What a Revival is not a miracle

  214. or dependent on a miracle in any sense.

  215. It is purely philosophic. That means it's scientific.

  216. It can be figured out, it's the result of the right use of the

  217. constituted means. What's he saying?

  218. You get all the right elements together.

  219. You'd all the right pieces together and you perform them in

  220. the exact way. You will have Revival.

  221. We see this today is churches still practiced planned.

  222. Revivals weekly revivals? Who in the lot of the same

  223. things that they would say they disagree with.

  224. Emotions of such worship might be good the motivation.

  225. Sorry, if such worship may be good, but there is a better way.

  226. There's a far better way. There's God's way to doing this.

  227. The problem with such worship is that man is the standard of

  228. worship. He is the center of worship,

  229. your starting with the congregation, and you're saying,

  230. let's do what he or she needs to have an emotional experience.

  231. You're starting with the leaders who are saying, we need to make

  232. this. This happen, it's manipulated

  233. for man's purposes, God's purposes.

  234. These people are not truly trying to build the kingdom of

  235. God, man cannot be the standard of Godly worship because Godly

  236. worship is decided by God Alone. Jonathan Cruz wrote this in a

  237. book he said worship is Meaningful, not because of what

  238. we do, but because of what God is doing and in and through Us

  239. by his spirit, Therefore, we must not only sanctify Our

  240. Lives. We must sanctify our worship

  241. also. But none of us disagrees that

  242. our lives, should be Sanctified that we should be putting away,

  243. sinful thoughts. If you got a problem with lust,

  244. you should put that away, right? None of us is going to argue

  245. that. If you got a problem with anger,

  246. you're angry at a brother, you're angry at a sister.

  247. You're like, you should put that away, you got a problem with

  248. bitterness, you should be depending upon the Lord to help

  249. you put that away, right? None of us is saying, we

  250. shouldn't be sanctified But when it comes to our worship, we

  251. often think there's no need to sanctify it.

  252. But it's not true. Like, there's reason to grow in

  253. what we understand about God, and how we worship God, and to

  254. look into his word and see what it says about worship.

  255. And to see is what we're doing aligning with what God's word

  256. says about worship. The let him sanctify our

  257. worship. So I want to put before you

  258. today this really kind of basic big idea but worshiping God his

  259. way is the most important thing you will ever do in your life.

  260. Learning how to worship God. His way is, the most important

  261. thing you will ever do in your life.

  262. In fact, you were created to worship.

  263. Why God created you was to be a worshipper?

  264. Romans 11:36 again, says, for from him and through him, and to

    Romans 11:36

  265. him are all things to him, be glory forever.

  266. Amen. First phrase, therefore from him

  267. from him, are all things. The Apostle Paul here is telling

  268. us that all things originated from God.

  269. From him are all things. That means out of God, comes all

  270. things. This is what happens in creation

  271. will look a little more at that in a moment.

  272. He is the source of all things. Amen.

  273. Through him are all things for from him and through, him are

  274. all things through him. Are all things, all things have

  275. their life. and their function and they're being because of God

  276. who created them, they came out of him and so therefore they

  277. exist, what through him He decides their existence, they

  278. have life because of him, for from him, and through him are

  279. all things. And so if it's from him and it's

  280. through him, then once it's in, it's to him, right?

  281. To him are all things for from him and through him.

  282. And to him are all things, all things, find their end in God.

  283. A plant that grows. Sprouts up from a seed or from

  284. something that was germinated, right?

  285. This plant Springs forth out of the ground.

  286. What is it doing? It's worshiping God.

  287. It's doing exactly what it was created to do.

  288. All right, it's living according to the will of God for its life.

  289. And so it exists all creation exists unto God.

  290. Only we might say it this way. Got us to Source the life.

  291. And the end of all things is the source of life, in the end of

  292. all things to him, alone belongs the glory.

  293. No. See Apostle Paul says the glory

  294. not Glory but the glory the apostles saying that Supreme

  295. Glory belongs to God, that all the glory Belongs to the Lord.

  296. And so all of creation and is shouting.

  297. Fourth, the glory of God because all of creation has come from

  298. God. All of creation is there for

  299. worshiping God. If you'll pay attention, like if

  300. you look around and notice creation, this is what creation

  301. is doing. And your life is no different.

  302. You were created to bring glory to God, who created to Worship

  303. the Lord, you were created to be that to be bringing forth into

  304. the world. Proper Godly worship as we see

  305. in the scriptures. One man's definition of worship

  306. is this he says it's Drawing Near to communion with God

  307. through Christ in the spirit by faith.

  308. That's important. You may write that down Drawing

  309. Near to communion with God. Through Christ in the spirit by

  310. faith. It's trinitarian and nature.

  311. This is true worship, drove. Do we draw near to God through

  312. Christ in the spirit by faith? It's not just that God said some

  313. things about worship. It's not just, it's not just

  314. that he's, you know, he might have some ideas about worship

  315. and now we get to do kind of whatever we want with in worship

  316. and we can call that worship because, you know, anything

  317. that's done. In the name of the Lord must be

  318. good, right? Oh, this is why there's false

  319. teachers and false teaching, right?

  320. It's not just false teaching is not just other religions.

  321. It is false teaching. Sure.

  322. But false teaching is that which looks Christian.

  323. But, as false in nature, right, And the Christian world is far

  324. more full of this than we might initially realize.

  325. It's because something Bears, the name Christian.

  326. Doesn't mean it's Christian, doesn't mean it's biblical, all

  327. right. And so, in the creation event,

  328. that we see in the beginning of Genesis, is the creation of

  329. worship. It's the Genesis of worship,

  330. it's the foundation for worshipers over and again,

  331. throughout God's word, we see that the purpose of creation is

  332. to proclaim the glory of God. What are you doing?

  333. When you proclaim the glory of God, you're worshiping right?

  334. Perhaps someone 48 which Alan preached on last month, is one

  335. of the clearest pictures of this truth.

  336. Let me just read some of the verses I probably won't read it

  337. all just for time sake but praise the Lord.

  338. Praise the Lord from the heavens, Praise Him in the

  339. Heights, praise him all his angels, praise him.

  340. All his hosts, Praise Him, sun and moon.

  341. Praise him. All you shining stars.

  342. Praise Him. You highest heavens and you

  343. Waters above the heavens, let them praise the name of the Lord

  344. for he commanded and they were created and he established him

  345. forever and ever. And he gave a decree.

  346. And it shall not pass away. Praise the Lord from the earth.

  347. You great sea creatures and all beeps fire and he'll snow and

  348. Mist, stormy, wind fulfilling his word mountains and all Hills

  349. fruit trees, and all Cedars beasts, and all, livestock

  350. creeping things and all Flying birds Kings of the earth, and

  351. All Peoples, princes, and all rulers of the earth, young men

  352. and maidens together old men and children.

  353. Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name, alone is

  354. exalted. His majesty is above heaven and

  355. earth. He has raised up a horn for his

  356. people. Praise for all his Saints, for

  357. the people of Israel who are near to him.

  358. Praise the Lord. So they wouldn't read it all,

  359. but I got caught up in it, right?

  360. Psalm 148. What's the point of the song?

  361. Praise God. Why?

  362. Because from him and through him and to him are all things to

  363. him, be the glory forever. Amen.

  364. Right. This is why we praise the Lord.

  365. So worshiping God his way again is the most important thing you

  366. will ever do. And so, when God makes Mankind,

  367. we read this in Genesis 1:26 and 27.

    Genesis 1:26

  368. It says then God said Let us make man in our image.

  369. So this is a trinitarian creation.

  370. Let us make man in our own image after our likeness and let them

  371. have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of

  372. the heavens and over the livestock and over all the Earth

  373. and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

  374. So God has at day six, he's at the end of day 6.

  375. Everything else in the Earth has been created and now he says,

  376. here's the crown jewel of creation Mankind and our image.

  377. Each male and female. For what purpose, the exercise

  378. Dominion to be fruitful and multiply to subdue.

  379. The earth. Does that mean to fill the Earth

  380. with the glory of God? Does that mean to be worshippers

  381. on the Earth? So God created, man in his own

  382. image. In the image of God, he created

  383. him male and female he created them.

  384. So to be created in the image of God is to Bear the impress of

  385. your creator. It's like the impress of the

  386. idea here is like the impress of a president on a coin, right?

  387. It Bears the image of the Creator but it's not the

  388. Creator, right? That coin Bears, the impress of

  389. a president but it's not the President, right?

  390. Nobody's saying, hey, I'm hanging out with Abe Lincoln

  391. today. All right no I got a penny in my

  392. pocket. All right.

  393. So you are not the Creator but you bear the image of the

  394. Creator. You're not the one worth

  395. worshiping but you were the one created to be a worshipper and

  396. he gave them the purpose of fruitfulness.

  397. Like you're meant to reflect the glory of God as a mirror

  398. reflects, what's in its view right?

  399. Again a mirror gives a reflection of what it sees, but

  400. it is not what it's he's right. We wouldn't hold up a mirror and

  401. say, hey, this has been Brigham just because Ben's image is in

  402. it. All right, but that's not how

  403. mirrors work. But it reflects the image of

  404. been just as you were created to reflect the image of your

  405. Creator. And so God made man to reflect

  406. his glory in all the Earth, gives them the purpose of

  407. fruitfulness Dominion to carry that throughout the Earth.

  408. So that his glory would fill the Earth.

  409. What does he do? When he calls Israel?

  410. The nation of Israel was supposed to do.

  411. What carry the glory of God? Into all the Earth was Israel.

  412. Get it right? No.

  413. And so the Old Testament is really all about the failure of

  414. Israel. To carry into image, the glory

  415. of God, there's pockets of hope, there's remnants of Hope, But

  416. ultimately we're still looking for someone to do that.

  417. And so Christ comes So when God places the man into the garden

  418. God, so he created him outside the garden.

  419. God takes Adam, always kind of imagine that.

  420. He's like just picking him up and placing him but probably not

  421. how it worked, right? Sounds good.

  422. But he takes Adam and he puts him into the garden and the

  423. Genesis 2:15, he gives him instructions.

    Genesis 2:15

  424. He says that he has to work it and keep it.

  425. To work and keep the garden. And interesting thing about this

  426. phrase in Genesis 2:15, is that Moses later uses it to describe

    Genesis 2:15

  427. the work of the Levites? Intending to Temple worship.

  428. They were to work it and keep it.

  429. I'm not even going to try to pronounce the Hebrew word for

  430. you, but it's the same phrase. So what was Adam created to do?

  431. He was created to be a priest on the earth to Bear the image of

  432. God. And the same way that the priest

  433. later on would carry the presence of God would tend to

  434. his presence in to make sure that God's glory could be seen

  435. properly. They could receive proper

  436. worship. This is what Adam was supposed

  437. to have done. And so in this God not only

  438. created Adam to worship, but he told him how to worship here to

  439. work and keep, he's giving him instructions for worship.

  440. Like I've put you in my place, this is My Sanctuary so to

  441. speak. I put you in my garden, but it's

  442. for my purposes, your to work it and keep it your, to cultivate

  443. it. You're to help it grow

  444. throughout the Earth. It would happen through

  445. cultivation and protection that Adam would Would do this.

  446. And so in this God will be glorified as Adam reflected the

  447. glory of God through his fruitful worship to God.

  448. But what happens in Genesis chapter 3?

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  449. We got the man in the woman created in Genesis 1.

  450. We see a close-up picture of what they were supposed to do

  451. and how they came to be. We see Adam created from the

  452. dust of the ground Eve's created from his rib to be a help me to

  453. Adam in working and keeping, and they were both to be fruitful

  454. multiply the exercise Dominion subdue, the Earth, and fill the

  455. Earth with the glory of the Lord.

  456. But in Genesis chapter 3, Our worship is disrupted by the

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  457. founder of Lies. The devil in the form of a

  458. serpent comes to Eve Who's Adams wife and he Tim's Sir With The

  459. Forbidden Fruit of the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil.

  460. So we got to place Adam in the garden.

  461. He gives him the command to work and keep but he gives them a

  462. command. Also, do not eat of the tree of

  463. knowledge of Good and Evil. From the day that you eat of it,

  464. you will surely die. She knows she's not supposed to

  465. eat him. He even adds to the command.

  466. I'm not supposed to eat it. Nor am I even supposed to touch

  467. it? The vet, the devil convinces.

  468. Her that this is simply the command of an egomaniac.

  469. Oh God. this is a God who, Who doesn't want you to be like him,

  470. but if you'll eat of that fruit, you'll be just like him and you

  471. won't need him anymore. How many of us fall to the

  472. temptation to be our own God daily?

  473. Take control of our own lives to do what we think is best without

  474. ever considering the commands of God in Scripture.

  475. I'll raise my hand. Guilty of that.

  476. The serpent says, to the woman. You will not surely die.

  477. I mean, I can, I don't know if I'm getting the inflection,

  478. right? But it just sounds like he's

  479. appalled by the fact that she says, will truly dies.

  480. He will surely die. For God knows.

  481. This is him. He's goes on, forgotten knows

  482. that when you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you'll

  483. be more like God, you will be like him knowing Good and Evil.

  484. Woman hears this and we read this as so when the woman saw

  485. that the tree was good for food so she hears what he's saying

  486. she turns and she looks at the fruits.

  487. That's when she saw that the tree was good for food and that

  488. it was a delight for the eyes tree was to be desired.

  489. To make one wise, she took of its fruit and she ate.

  490. And she also gave some to her husband who was with her, he ate

  491. Again, this is the temptation of daily and struggles, you know,

  492. you might know the commands of God and you might be saying to

  493. yourself. No, I can't.

  494. Can't act this way or can't do this thing, or can't pursue that

  495. desire because it goes against God's command.

  496. I know that I've heard that my whole life and then what

  497. happens? The tempter comes right.

  498. The father of Lies comes to you and he says you want surely die

  499. if you do that. God's trying to keep you from

  500. enjoyment, trying to keep you from being your own God.

  501. He doesn't want you to be like him.

  502. Like if you'll just pursue all the desires of your heart, guess

  503. what? Your God.

  504. Now, you're the god of your own life.

  505. This is the LIE of the world. This is what there?

  506. This is what they're falling into, so rapidly in our world.

  507. So what we have here in Genesis chapter 3 is the origin of sin

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  508. in mankind. It's the beginning of it.

  509. It's the Genesis of sin, this is where Godly worship gets

  510. disrupted and so we read, we go on the reading the narrative,

  511. then the eyes of both were opened and they knew that they

  512. were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made

  513. themselves loin cloths. And they heard the sound of the

  514. lord of the Lord. God Walking In The Garden in the

  515. cool of the day and the man and his wife, hid themselves from

  516. the presence of the Lord God Among the Trees of the garden.

  517. So what's happened? Their eyes are opened They were

  518. once it's not that there were blind they were once pure.

  519. Everyone's holy as God is. Holy There were once without sin

  520. but now their eyes have been open to evil.

  521. Why? Because they experienced evil,

  522. they committed evil, they committed transgression against

  523. God and now they know who it. And they knew that they were

  524. naked. It says they were exposed before

  525. God and so they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves

  526. loin cloths, they heard the Lord coming the hid themselves.

  527. From the presence of the Lord, among the Trees of the law, of

  528. the garden of Lord. God Called To The Man.

  529. He said to him, where are you? And he said I heard the sound of

  530. you in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked and I

  531. hid myself. God said who told you that you

  532. were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of

  533. which I commanded you not to eat.

  534. The man said, the woman whom you gave me to be with me.

  535. She gave me fruit of the tree and I ate and then the Lord said

  536. to the woman, what is this? That you have done?

  537. And the woman said, the serpent deceived me and I ate.

  538. So again, here we see the Genesis of things like shame and

  539. regret and blame shifting, and deceit rights, which were also

  540. well acquainted. With now, if we're honest were

  541. very good at all of these things.

  542. A chiral to us like we were born this way or Okay.

  543. The man and the woman are no longer an unblemished image of

  544. the glory of God as they were created.

  545. Created to mirror the image of the glory of God and all the

  546. Earth. They are now broken mirrors.

  547. The Bible helps us see. This just two chapters later

  548. after Adam and Eve are sent out of the garden.

  549. We read this in Genesis chapter 5, this is the book of the

    Genesis 5 chapter mention

  550. generations of Adam. This is verses 1, through 3,

  551. when God created man, he made him in the likeness of God, male

  552. and female. He created them and he blessed

  553. them and name them. Man.

  554. When they were created, when Adam had lived a hundred thirty

  555. years, he fathered a son in his own likeness after his image and

  556. named him. Seth You see the difference?

  557. Is there when God created man, he made him in the likeness of

  558. who God, then Adam fathered a son in whose likeness his own

  559. likeness. After his own image, mankind,

  560. still Bears, the image of their creator, but it's a broken

  561. image. It's a it's marred by sin,

  562. Romans 5:12 further clarifies this.

    Romans 5:12

  563. Therefore just as Sin came into the world through one man, which

  564. is Adam, this chapter makes it clear that it's Adam Just a sin,

  565. came into the world through one man, Adam and death through sin,

  566. and so death, spread to all men, because all sinned, Romans 3:23

    Romans 3:23

  567. for all, have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

  568. None of us are bearing the image of God anymore perfectly

  569. Especially so, as unbelievers, we are marred by our sinful

  570. nature, which are inherited, which is inherited from our

  571. first parents, Adam and Eve. We are broken mirrors.

  572. We are guilty of sin Alan just mentioned last week that we're

  573. all worshiping something. We're all devoted to something,

  574. some may worship false gods of their own imaginations of their

  575. own creations. And some may worship the one

  576. true God of the Bible, but no one is indifferent, there's no

  577. neutrality in this, you are worshipping something, everyone

  578. lives, their life and Devotion to something and whatever that

  579. is it is their God. You might be what you're devoted

  580. to most and so you are your own God.

  581. It might be something else. Maybe your spouse, maybe your

  582. children, may be saying. Everything I do is for these

  583. people. And while it's a noble concept,

  584. you're making your wife or your spout, your husband, you're

  585. making them God, you're making your children.

  586. God, if it's your career, you think this is who I am.

  587. You're making it God. Maybe it's your addictions.

  588. Your sins struggles. I am a believer but I'm also a

  589. whatever alcoholic recovering alcoholic or same-sex attracted.

  590. But I'm a Christian, you know, like what you're doing, is

  591. you're making those things God. Adam and Eve were created to

  592. worship God. By eternally dwelling, in the

  593. presence of God. Joyfully doing the will of God,

  594. spreading the glory of God into all the Earth.

  595. But their sin got them removed from the garden verses 22

  596. through 24. There in Genesis 3 just a few

  597. verses later we read this. Then the Lord God said, behold

  598. the man has become like one of us and knowing good and evil.

  599. Now lets you reach out his hand and take also of the tree of

  600. life and eat and live forever. And God just breaks his thought

  601. there. Therefore the Lord God sent him

  602. out from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he

  603. was taken, he drove out the man and that the east of the Garden

  604. of Eden, he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned

  605. every way to guard, the way to the Tree of Life.

  606. They are forever barred from entering the place of God, that

  607. God had given them Adam and Eve leave the fruitful garden and

  608. embark on a new far, more difficult journey to become

  609. image. Bearers for the glory of God in

  610. the Earth. And if that were like the

  611. totality of the historical Narrative of our first parents,

  612. like this is all we had, we would be filled with

  613. discouragements and hopelessness and rightfully.

  614. So for in that existence and existence separated from the

  615. presence of God. And that existence, where you're

  616. in your sin, there is no way to return to God and proper

  617. worship. They're barred forever.

  618. There's no way for us to commune with him because of our sin.

  619. Our sin also removes us from the presence of God.

  620. And if that's true, if we've been forever removed from the

  621. presence of God and why in the world are we gather together

  622. right now at this place. And in this time Why do we

  623. gather? Why do we show up for corporate

  624. worship on the Lord's Day each week?

  625. Because we know, we know brothers and sisters that God

  626. did not leave us in our sin. He has not left us without a way

  627. to return to him and proper worship.

  628. Amen. The look-back with me at Genesis

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  629. chapter 3. Let's look a little closer at

  630. what happened here. Because I believe that here, God

  631. has established for us. The outline for what happens in

  632. worship from the very beginning of time.

  633. But the true worship only happens in God's way.

  634. Which he reveals here in his work and we'll see it over.

  635. And again, throughout the scriptures as we go through the

  636. series, we see the same pattern. The first thing we see is that

  637. God initiates God, initiates worship.

  638. Happens on God's terms after their sin, Adam and Eve are not

  639. seeking. God, they're naked and ashamed.

  640. Right? What are they doing?

  641. Are they running for the Lord somewhere?

  642. No, we're looking for ways to cover themselves with loin

  643. cloths, right? They're trying to cover their

  644. shame. They're trying to hide their

  645. sin. Kind of make themselves

  646. presentable instead of running to their creator, begging for

  647. his forgiveness. And pardon they cover themselves

  648. in fig leaves. I'm here to tell you.

  649. This is the pattern of all of humanity, no one seeks God.

  650. No one seeks. God, this is what Isaiah says.

  651. This is what Romans chapter 3 is saying there is none righteous?

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  652. No, not one. No one seeks after God.

  653. It is God who seeks. So what does God do?

  654. Look at verse 89 again, and they heard the sound of the Lord.

  655. God Walking In The Garden. In the cool of the day.

  656. And the man and his wife hid themselves.

  657. From the presence of the Lord God Among the Trees of the

  658. garden, but the Lord God. Did.

  659. What ignore them? And just passed on by?

  660. Oh, Lord, God Called To The Man. He said to him, where are you?

  661. You see God seeks out the man and the woman.

  662. The head. They have blasphemed, his name

  663. have rebelled against him and true worship.

  664. God comes to his people. The people do not first perform

  665. for him and then he shows up as finny says rather.

  666. They come because he calls them. This is why we begin the service

  667. with a call to worship. The call isn't about us reciting

  668. something out of dead, wrote religious activity.

  669. It's about acknowledging that we are here, because God calls us

  670. to worship him. We can come to worship because

  671. God has called us to come. He draws Us in, and we respond

  672. in obedience, we come. And though he calls us and we

  673. come, this is not the end of it, we still cannot worship him

  674. properly because our sin remains and he is perfectly, holy and

  675. just and cannot approve of our sin. the second thing we see is

  676. that we acknowledge our sin, I must acknowledge our sin.

  677. What happens next in? The narrative is not a

  678. restoration of Fellowship. God talking to the man saying,

  679. where are you in the man? Answering back.

  680. This is not Fellowship yet. This is not them dwelling

  681. together in harmony. Yet this is not peace with God.

  682. That's why the man's hiding and eventually is going to go on to

  683. make excuses. He's not at peace with God yet.

  684. He's still afraid of God because of his sin.

  685. The Lord God Called To The Man and said him, where are you?

  686. And he said, I heard the sound of you in the garden and I was

  687. afraid because Cuz I was naked and I hid myself and he said,

  688. God said, who told you that you were naked?

  689. Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to

  690. eat. And the man said no, no, the

  691. woman who you whom you gave to be with me.

  692. She gave me the fruit of the tree and I ate.

  693. So who's at fault in Adams mind. Oh, the woman know.

  694. God. He's accusing God of causing his

  695. Misfortune right? The woman who gave you gave to

  696. me. Sure.

  697. Eve disobeyed Eve, offered the fruit Adam took of it, but who's

  698. he blaming, right? He's not blaming the woman and

  699. he is in a sense, but he's blaming God, the woman you gave

  700. me. Did this?

  701. Then the Lord God said to the woman?

  702. What is this? That you have done in the woman

  703. said, the serpent deceived me and I ate As noted earlier, this

  704. is the beginning of regret and shame and blame Shifting.

  705. The Regatta is the the origin of sin.

  706. Really what's on display here is pride unchecked pride the woman.

  707. You gave me It's your fault. God, you're the reason I'm in

  708. sin here. It was better off.

  709. I was better on my own. There's more than that happening

  710. here though than just the regret and shame and the blame-shifting

  711. that we see. This is more than a kid getting

  712. caught with his hand in the cookie jar, right?

  713. But I wasn't I was I was cleaning it.

  714. Yeah just making sure there were cookies in it for later mom.

  715. What God is doing here? Is he's asking what are you?

  716. What's where are you, what have you done?

  717. Got us pronouncing his righteous.

  718. Judgement on the man and They were guilty of sin, and let me

  719. tell you something, God means for them to understand it.

  720. Deeply There is no good news of the Gospel here yet.

  721. This is you are in Rebellion against my decree.

  722. You have sinned against the holy God.

  723. Why have you done this? We might all look at ourselves

  724. in the mirror one day and asked the same things.

  725. Because we're all guilty of treason against God, rebelling

  726. against him. And so God is pronouncing his

  727. righteous judgment. They're guilty of it.

  728. He means from the sit, their hearts are foul, their sin has

  729. blemished them forever. Have you eaten of the tree of

  730. which I commanded you not to eat.

  731. They got really have to ask. I mean, it's God, limited and

  732. any kind of a way at all. Oh, you guys know this, right?

  733. The one who created the heavens and the Earth out of nothing,

  734. right. That he didn't have a substance

  735. that he created these things out of him.

  736. He spoke them into being by the power of His voice.

  737. That he really need to know what happened.

  738. Of course he didn't, he's an all-powerful all-knowing.

  739. All presence. God from the depths of the

  740. ocean, to the heights of the heavens, from the one corner of

  741. creation to the Opposite corner of creation.

  742. There is nothing hidden from the side, or the knowledge of God.

  743. Everything, what exists from him, and through him, and to

  744. him, it's all his nothing's hidden.

  745. So he knew what Adam and Eve had done.

  746. You know exactly what they did and he pronounces his verdict

  747. and verses 16 and 19. The woman he said, I will surely

  748. multiply your pain in childbearing and pain you shall

  749. bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to

  750. your husband but he shall rule over you and to Adam he said

  751. because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have

  752. eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, you shall not eat

  753. of it. Cursed is the ground because of

  754. you in pain, you shall eat of it all the days of your life thorns

  755. and thistles it shall bring forth for you.

  756. And you shall eat the plants of the field of the The sweat of

  757. your face. You shall eat bread till you

  758. return to the ground for out of it.

  759. You were taken for. You are dust and to dust.

  760. You shall return. Woo.

  761. Sin, Sin marred, the very things that they were created to be

  762. doing Eve, is creative, because God looks at him.

  763. And says, it's not good for the man to be alone.

  764. I'm going to create for him. I help meet Eve is created to

  765. image the glory of God in creation.

  766. Is she AIDS the man in fruitfulness?

  767. As a help meet and mother. And she's now going to have

  768. desires that are contrary to her design.

  769. Namely, she will want to rule over him.

  770. Her desire will be for him. By the way, we might say hello

  771. to the foundation of the feminist movement, right?

  772. That's what this is. Adam created to image the glory

  773. of God and creation as he works, and keeps the fruitful guarding

  774. the place that God gave to him. With the help of his wife will

  775. now have to work against thorns and thistles by the sweat of his

  776. brow until he returns to the dust that he was created from.

  777. Adding insult to injury, God will send them out of the

  778. garden, struggle and toil, and strife, will be their future

  779. Decay destruction, and death will Mark creation for the rest

  780. of time. The Earth exists.

  781. This is the pronouncement of judgment and Adam and Eve have

  782. heard clearly. The third thing that happens in

  783. worship as that God provides atonement.

  784. God provides atonement God initiates his Plan of Redemption

  785. in his curse on the serpent. Which I intentionally did not

  786. read yet but here you are verse 15.

  787. I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your

  788. Offspring and her Offspring. He shall bruise your head and

  789. you shall bruise his heel. Though, the serpent deceived,

  790. the woman, the serpent thinks I've won the day.

  791. The victory is mine. I've caused the fall of God's

  792. Crown, Jewel of creation, the ones who were meant to Bear His

  793. Image. No longer bear His Image,

  794. perfectly or marred by sin. They're like me.

  795. They're liars. And deceivers.

  796. But the victory we see here will ultimately belong to God because

  797. God In The Offspring of the man and the woman will come in The

  798. Offspring of the man. And the woman one will come who

  799. will bruise the head of the serpent though.

  800. He himself will be bruised in the process.

  801. The bruise head of the serpent is a death blow dealt by the one

  802. who's heel will be bruised in the process, but a bruised Hill

  803. and a bruised head or not, the same thing.

  804. Amen. You can stub your toe and that's

  805. different than if something falls on your head, right?

  806. Ultimately, there's going to be one who brings the death of

  807. death. His heel will be bruised in the

  808. process but he will deal the deathblow to death.

  809. This verse is called the protoevangelium.

  810. It is the first Proto pronouncement of the Gospel or

  811. good news Evangelion. God is foreshadowing.

  812. The provision of atonement. He's foreshadowing.

  813. The coming of Christ by his Incarnation, through the seed of

  814. the woman who the spirits conception and Merry Christ is

  815. The Offspring who will cut off the head of the serpent, and he

  816. does so on the cross. Amen.

  817. On the cross Christ became sin for us who knew no sin.

  818. Sorry he became sin who knew no sin for us.

  819. So that by faith in him, we who knew nothing, but sin might

  820. become the righteousness of God. Second Corinthians 5:21 all who

    2 Corinthians 5:21

  821. call on the name of the Lord, by faith in Christ death.

  822. And his resurrection will be saved, Romans 10:9.

    Romans 10:9

  823. Genesis 3:21 says this and the Lord God made for a demand.

    Genesis 3:21

  824. For his wife, garments of skins and clothed.

  825. Now them now, this is right before, so they're trying to

  826. make fig leaves, which is what we do in our own righteousness.

  827. Which is filthy rags right there.

  828. Trying to sew together loincloth and like, cover themselves.

  829. And God says, I do know where I'm sending you out there.

  830. You're going to need a different kind of clothing, and so we

  831. closed them in animal skins, which is really just a further

  832. foreshadowing of believers who are ultimately, we being clothed

  833. in the righteousness of Christ by faith.

  834. Foreshadowing taking their awful clothing.

  835. Removing it from them and giving them proper clothing, which is

  836. what we see of those were worshipping.

  837. At the end of Revelation there, dressed in the robes that Christ

  838. has Adorn them with righteousness of him.

  839. Fourth thing we see is that we commit ourselves to him, Adam

  840. and Eve faced with their sin, but hearing the promise of God

  841. to crush the serpent commit themselves to God.

  842. Genesis 3:22 look what it says. The man called his wife's name

    Genesis 3:22

  843. Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

  844. Adam knew that life because of the promise that God made in the

  845. curse of the serpent, he makes a promise to Mankind and because

  846. of that promise Adam knows that my wife is now the mother of all

  847. living like she is. The reason the seed that carries

  848. on through her is going to be the reason That life is restored

  849. to Mankind, we know death now but we will know life again

  850. though they had sinned against God and received death that his

  851. sin came into their life, it's death and that way but it's also

  852. the end of life at some point. It would not last forever.

  853. So he calls his name, wife eat, his wife's name, Eve, To

  854. commemorate this. The fifth thing we see is that

  855. we feast and communion with God and now have communion with God

  856. again, though that was disrupted by Kane's murder of his brother

  857. Abel. All hope is not lost, right?

  858. We'll see this right here in Genesis chapter 4, which comes

    Genesis 4 chapter mention

  859. on the Tilt that these last few years, come on the telling of

  860. the story of Cain and Abel. So, Adam.

  861. And Eve had two sons, one gets jealous of the other because his

  862. offering was received by the Lord because it was made in the

  863. right way. Kane tried to Worship in the

  864. wrong way. God didn't receive his offering

  865. and he gets jealous. So what does he do?

  866. Cousin, kills his brother. And in verses 25 through 26

  867. after Cain is banished, he's gone.

  868. Now to go do his thing and you read about all the destruction

  869. that's going to come from him in the future verse 25.

  870. It says in Adam knew his wife again, meaning they conceived

  871. again, she bore a son and called his name Seth for she said, God

  872. has appointed for me another Offspring.

  873. She's holding onto this Hope Of The Offspring in Genesis 3:15,

    Genesis 3:15

  874. instead of Abel for Cain killed him. so and if you track it, you

  875. trace it, and the genealogies, all those things, we Skip and

  876. read Christ comes from the line of Seth I mean it's a whole long

  877. line, but it's there and the same way.

  878. Oh and then so and that says, to Seth also was born.

  879. A son was born and he called his name enosh.

  880. And at that time people began to call upon the name of the Lord.

  881. He is God God's in the cool of the day, wandering through the

  882. garden. Adam and Eve sinned, what does

  883. he do? He calls on them.

  884. And now here we see the people calling on the name of the Lord

  885. and proper worship restored Fellowship.

  886. There in communion with God again by faith. we come to see

  887. that fleshed out in Abraham chapters 12 and on in Genesis,

  888. So in the same way we have communion with God today,

  889. through faith in Christ of the pictures become clearer and

  890. clearer Through The Years, through Revelation.

  891. Because of the atonement that Christ, the see The Offspring of

  892. who Christ is and how he dealt a death blow to Satan and so we

  893. can dwell with God. Each day we can live for God.

  894. When being communion with God, the sixth thing we see is that

  895. he sends us We're kind of describing the flow of a worship

  896. service. Prescribing, the flow of worship

  897. in the Bible. The six elements of this six

  898. part 2. This is that he sends us, God

  899. sent a Adam and Eve out of the garden committed to God.

  900. They would be able to live for him once again by faith.

  901. We see this in their children and the fact that the people

  902. began to call upon the name of the Lord in that day.

  903. Or at that time, Adam and Eve must have been cultivating and

  904. guarding a Devotion to God, that others were NG to do also

  905. carried on through their son. It's a weekly worship is a

  906. reenactment of this shape that God calls us.

  907. The verdict is pronounced. Atonement is seen in Christ.

  908. We commit ourselves to him and he sends us, amen.

  909. It's a reenactment of this gospel shape that God provides

  910. here in Genesis and we'll see it throughout the scriptures will

  911. begin to see this take shape as we go through this.

  912. So you see worship does not begin with man as the standard

  913. man. Were the standard would get it

  914. wrong, man, cannot be the standard because he is sinful

  915. and corrodes God and His word are the standard for worship.

  916. Everything we do and worship must be held accountable to

  917. God's word. More than that.

  918. Everything we do in worship must be derived from his Word and not

  919. everything we do and worship just because we think it's good.

  920. And right means that it's good. And right on the side of God.

  921. In the coming weeks, we'll look more at the Theology and the

  922. elements of a worship service, but for now, must understand

  923. that worship is Drawing Near to communion with God through

  924. Christ in the spirit by faith. That is to worship God's way and

  925. it is the most important thing you will ever do.

  926. So I ask you brothers and sisters and what ways does your

  927. life, not reflect true Godly worship and what ways are your

  928. heart is your heart devoted to your own desires of the desires

  929. of others. And what ways have you ignored

  930. God? Daily in your life.

  931. And what ways have you like? The proverb said, become has

  932. your belly become your God, meaning you go the way of your

  933. own desires, your own appetites. I'm for you today.

  934. To answer the call of God, to repent of your sins, to commit

  935. yourself to Christ, centered worship, allow him to send you

  936. out as you fellowship with him. Men, let me pray for you.

  937. Heavenly father, I thank you. For these men and women.

  938. I thank you, Lord, for your word and your faithfulness to us.

  939. What would you help us to worship you correctly?

  940. Help us worship you properly. The ways that you have designed

  941. in the ways that you have made clear in your word.

  942. Father, we recognize that you call us.

  943. We call us. And so therefore we come we love

  944. because you first loved us, you have called us out of darkness

  945. and into Marvelous Light you have pulled us up from the Miry

  946. clay and given us a rock to stand on.

  947. We owe everything to you. If we are saved it is because of

  948. Christ it is because of your call is because of your actions,

  949. not our own. There is no way to fellowship

  950. with you, apart from faith. So Lord, would you deepen our

  951. faith? Would you strengthen our faith?

  952. If we might Worship You More completely more fully, we might

  953. exercise a deeper Devotion to you.

  954. And we might not sin against you by going the way of our own

  955. bellies. Seeking out our own desires.

  956. Help us to depend on Christ Alone.

  957. Lord, we love you, praise you for your word.

  958. Thank you for your spirit, which convicted Spirit, which leads.

  959. Spirit which teaches us by Your Word, trains Us by Your Word,

  960. reproves us corrects Us by Your Word, so that we might grow in

  961. faith. Help us to be Holy Father, as

  962. you are holding. Thank you for your word Christ

  963. name. I pray.

  964. Amen. Thank you for your word Christ

  965. name. I pray.

  966. Amen.
