  1. Give you a minute to find your seats while you're doing that,

  2. if you're visiting, thank you for being here today.

  3. My name is Kyle and I serve as lead, Pastor here.

  4. And today, we're continuing in a series we began last week.

  5. The series title is what happens when we worship.

  6. And so, we're just building over the next several weeks.

  7. A theology, if you will on what is worship, what's happening

  8. when we worship? And then after we do that for a

  9. few weeks, we'll get it into a specific elements of a worship

  10. service. What are they for?

  11. Why do we do them? Are they for our good or they

  12. commanded by God? Is there some thing about them

  13. that God has specifically given us?

  14. And then we'll talk about from there.

  15. Where do we go from here? And how do we obey?

  16. The Lord, and those things. So, if you have your Bible, I

  17. ask you to turn to Second Corinthians chapter 3, that's

    2 Corinthians 3 chapter mention

  18. where we'll be today. Looking at is a passage here in

  19. second Corinthians 3. Um, last week in the series,

  20. what we did is we said that worshiping God his way is the

  21. most important thing you will ever do.

  22. Worshiping God his way is, the most important thing you will

  23. ever do. And so, we went back to the

  24. creation events. We went back to the fall of Man,

  25. and we saw that in that we were separated from God.

  26. Our sin separates us from the Lord.

  27. We're made known of our sin made aware Adam and Eve become aware

  28. that they have sinned. They're hiding themselves from

  29. God and then God comes to them. But while they're in that

  30. separation, Godly worship is impossible.

  31. They cannot do anything to get themselves back to God.

  32. They can't do anything to return to God on their own.

  33. And so God calls out to Adam. And and so what we said is that

  34. we are created to reflect the glory of God in the world.

  35. As as image bearers were told in Genesis 1 that were created in

  36. the image of God that is were created in His image and his

  37. likeness. Likeness to Bear His Image in

  38. the world. But what happens from sin as it

  39. were broken image, bearers created to be mirrors, were

  40. broken mirrors if you will, but God intervenes God makes

  41. atonement. He promised atonement in Genesis

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  42. chapter 3 and ultimately makes atonement in his son Christ

  43. Jesus which not only gives us now fellowship with God.

  44. If will come to the god through Christ, we have fellowship with

  45. God again, it also what we see and what we saw in Genesis, is

  46. it Ed's the pattern for Godly worship.

  47. We got to see the pattern for that, and here's what we laid

  48. out. If you don't have these things

  49. in your notes, I encourage you to write them down because their

  50. importance of what we'll be discussing over the next several

  51. weeks. But the pattern for Godly

  52. worship is this number one, God initiates.

  53. God, initiates, he comes to us. He invites us, he calls us.

  54. He is the initiator of Godly worship.

  55. The second thing is that we see our sin, as you.

  56. Look at a holy God, you can't help but see how Unholy you are.

  57. And so your sin you're made aware of your sin, a judgment is

  58. pronounced. You see that you are no longer

  59. in Fellowship of the holy God, that you cannot be in fellowship

  60. with this. Holy God, and then God, number

  61. three, God provides atonements. God makes a way for there to be

  62. Fellowship again. There's atonement for sins.

  63. The fourth thing is after we've received this atonement, we are

  64. committing ourselves to God through Christ committing

  65. ourselves to him. And as we're committing

  66. ourselves to him were welcomed back into Fellowship.

  67. So by faith, in Christ by faith in his death and Resurrection,

  68. we are. Welcome back into the

  69. fellowship. Back into fellowship with God.

  70. And so communion number five, communion with God is restored.

  71. In other words, our fellowship is restored.

  72. And there's a literal feasting that goes on with that

  73. fellowship. And we talked a little about

  74. that last week, as we took the Lord's supper together, and

  75. then, finally number six, God commission's, are God's sins us.

  76. God commission's us, he gives us a purpose in life and it is to

  77. reflect his glory and all the Earth as we obey him and teach

  78. others to do the same. Amen.

  79. So we looked at those things. Now, today, I want to talk to

  80. you a little bit about how the worship service itself.

  81. Shapes us how it creates this kind of Christianity where it's

  82. a weekly thing that we come and do and you were being shaped in

  83. it. And here's kind of the one of

  84. the main ideas that will run throughout this sermon is this

  85. is that you become what you behold.

  86. You become what you behold. And so today, the Siri or the

  87. message title is becoming what we behold?

  88. When I ask that you stand with me now for the reading of God's

  89. holy word, Second Corinthians 3. I'll start in verse 12 read

  90. through 18. Since we have such a hope.

  91. We are very bold, not like Moses who would put a veil over his

  92. face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of

  93. what was being brought to an end.

  94. But their minds were hardened for to this day when they read

  95. the old Covenant, that same Veil remains unlifted because only

  96. through Christ. Is it taken away?

  97. Yes. To this day whenever Moses is

  98. read, Read a veil Lies over their hearts, but when one turns

  99. to the Lord, the veil is removed.

  100. Now, the Lord is the spirit and where the spirit of the Lord is

  101. there is freedom. And we all with unveiled face

  102. beholding, the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the

  103. same image from one degree of Glory to another.

  104. This comes from the Lord who is a spirits This is God's.

  105. Holy word. Thanks be to God.

  106. Let's pray Heavenly Father. We thank you for your word.

  107. We thank you that. We have it as a As a source of

  108. Truth, absolute truth. That when we look into it, we

  109. see the glory of yourself. Or that by it.

  110. We might know. Truly know who God is and it's

  111. only by the special Revelation that we have in your word that

  112. we can know who you are. It's only by this, that we are

  113. called into fellowship with you. Once again, it's only about this

  114. word that we are redeemed and able to worship you.

  115. And so father, would you help us today to Behold The Glory of

  116. Christ in your word that we too might be transformed from one

  117. degree of Glory to another May your spirit be among us today,

  118. may your spirit move on our hearts and our minds today.

  119. May your spirit sanctify us. Make us more like Christ.

  120. The name of Jesus, we pray these prayers.

  121. Amen. And then you may be seated, So

  122. again, last week what we looked at is that you are created to

  123. worship. You are a worshipper from the

  124. womb, right? From the womb to the tomb from

  125. life to death, you are worshipping something.

  126. Always, now, I want to develop that thought a little bit

  127. further today, what? Whatever you worship shapes, you

  128. whatever, you're worshipping it forms, you and you form habits

  129. around what you worship, right? Right, like whatever you find,

  130. most important, whatever your heart desires, whatever your

  131. heart longs for. What do you do you order your

  132. day after that thing, right? You shape your life around it?

  133. You form your life around those things.

  134. And so what you worship influences, your thoughts, it

  135. influences, your decision decisions each day at impacts

  136. you. And this is true.

  137. No matter what your worshiping, whether you're worshiping the

  138. one true Living God or you're worshipping.

  139. False gods in the form of idolatry what you worship.

  140. Either prepares you for eternally worshipping your

  141. creator or It prepares you to meet the Eternal Judgment of

  142. that same Creator but you are worshipping.

  143. There is no neutrality, you are a worshiper who is worshipping

  144. and your worship either gives glory to God and is therefore

  145. righteous worship. Or it gives Glory To Creation

  146. and does therefore idolatrous. There's no neutrality here.

  147. There's no neutral ground. There's no gray areas.

  148. It's black and white. You are worshipping something.

  149. Always, Additionally, you become what you worship.

  150. I'm going to use the word behold because that's the word that are

  151. passages using today. You become what you behold, the

  152. behold. Something means to look into a

  153. mirror at it, typically, it's talking about how you gaze at

  154. yourself in a mirror. It's to gaze at something and

  155. you're becoming what you behold, whatever you're looking at

  156. another way to word. Be maybe that not literally,

  157. it's not like your hands have eyes, but with your eyes, you're

  158. taking hold of something and holding onto it.

  159. You behold that thing where you become what you worship, you

  160. become what you behold, and you are a natural-born Beholder.

  161. You were created with the Longing To behold something,

  162. your created with the longing, the desire to worship something.

  163. Therefore you must be aware of how the things that you worship.

  164. Are shaping how the things that you're beholding, are forming

  165. you and we need to recognize the ways in which we have been

  166. shaped by beholding the wrong things.

  167. This would be misplaced worship or a better word.

  168. Probably, a more straight down, the line.

  169. Word would be idolatry this place worship is idolatry is

  170. putting worship on something other than the Creator.

  171. We're worshipping creation instead and this is idolatry.

  172. Listen to the psalmist in Psalm 135, is he talks about the idol

  173. worshippers in his day. He said the idols of the nations

  174. are silver and gold. The work of human hands.

  175. They have mouths but do not speak.

  176. They have eyes, but do not see. They have ears but do not hear

  177. nor is there any breath in their mouths?

  178. Those who make them become like them.

  179. So do all who Trust. Them, that last line is crucial,

  180. those who make these idols, and worship these idols and give

  181. themselves to be holding these Idols become like them.

  182. They become dumb. They become stupid.

  183. They become foolish. Why would you worship something

  184. that you can create with human hands?

  185. Why submit to something that you have ultimate authority over

  186. something you've created or something that someone else has

  187. created something that bends to your will and to your ideals

  188. Lord, condemns idolatry here in Psalm 135 and he's essentially

  189. making the case that it's foolish.

  190. You become what you behold and then idolatry this is not a good

  191. thing. It's not a good thing to become

  192. like your Idols. It's not a good thing to pattern

  193. your life. After the things you most

  194. desire, if those things that you most desire are not Christ

  195. himself. Misplaced beholding forms.

  196. The wrong kinds of loves in US. It forms Desires in you.

  197. It is therefore idolatrous. Jesus said you cannot serve two

  198. masters that you will either love the one and hate the other

  199. or hate the one and love the other.

  200. No one can serve two Gods crisis.

  201. Therefore, it's crucial. It's absolutely crucial to the

  202. Salvation of your soul. That you find True North, so to

  203. speak. That you correct, your course

  204. less you continue and idolatry or less you as a Christian maybe

  205. not continuing in idolatry but having idolatrous practices in

  206. your life, a heart that is divided at times a heart that is

  207. prone to wander. And True North is found in Godly

  208. pure true. Regular Christian, corporate

  209. worship. At least it should be.

  210. This is the way to overcome and defeat idolatrous beliefs and

  211. each one of us. Jonathan Cruz.

  212. Wrote a book on worship and he talks about this.

  213. He says worship takes what we love and trains us to love it

  214. more. Worship both reflects what

  215. matters to us and shapes, what matters to us worship.

  216. Trains us, and transforms us. This is could be idol worship as

  217. we saw in Psalm 135, as you see throughout the Old Testament and

  218. the New Testament or could be Godly worship as we see in

  219. second Corinthians 3. That what you behold you become

  220. And so the thing I want to lay before you today is this and

  221. write this down, should be on the screen.

  222. God forms and shapes you as you behold the glory of Christ and

  223. regular corporate worship, God forms and shapes you as you

  224. behold the glory of Christ and regular corporate worship.

  225. Now what's happening in second Corinthians 3 is, Paul is

  226. writing and he's remembering an event that took place among

  227. Moses and the Israelites and exodus and Exodus chapter 32,

    Exodus 32 chapter mention

  228. chapter 32 and 34 we have the story of Moses and Mount Sinai.

  229. And those idolatrous Israelites we find the Israelites in these

  230. passages are in these chapters worshiping a golden calf.

  231. Moses has gone up to Mount Sinai.

  232. Got his called him up to Mount Sinai to meet with him, is

  233. ultimately going to deliver to him the way that you properly

  234. worship, Radisson, The Ten Commandments.

  235. This is the way you order your life.

  236. He's going to ultimately deliver to him that so that he can take

  237. it to the people, but the people become Restless.

  238. I don't want to wait on his return.

  239. I don't want to wait on what God has.

  240. And so they convince Aaron Moses's brother to make a golden

  241. calf for them to worship and when Moses returns he sees the

  242. madness and he is angry, he rebukes the people and he uses

  243. terms that are really fitting for worshiping a cow.

  244. He says that you are stiff-necked people.

  245. If you ever tried to Wrangle a cow before but there's

  246. stiff-necked right? He says you are a stiff-necked.

  247. People who have turned aside quickly out of the way.

  248. Also something cattle or prone to do They have become like

  249. cattle themselves, they have busted out of their pastures.

  250. They need to be rounded up right there, following the desires of

  251. Their Own idolatrous Parts. And afterwards Moses goes back

  252. up to the mountain to speak with God and while he's with God he

  253. is also transformed he to undergoes a transformation is

  254. he's beholding something altogether different, he's

  255. become beholding, God. As he communes with the one true

  256. living holy glorious God he is transformed to reflect the glory

  257. of God. Listen to Exodus 34 29 as it

  258. describes, what happens to Moses when Moses came down from Mount

  259. Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, that

  260. is The Ten Commandments as he came down from the mountain.

  261. Moses did not know that the skin of his face shown because he had

  262. been talking with God. Moses is literally shining from

  263. the glory of the Lord of a supernatural event that we

  264. should not ever expect to happen again.

  265. But it happened to the prophet here.

  266. Most and happens as a way of judgments on the Israelites but

  267. they beheld something shiny, something created in their own

  268. image, a glory that could was made with their own human hands.

  269. And became like it but Moses beheld, the glory of God and was

  270. transformed into that same image in a way.

  271. While the Israelites became like their Idols Moses became like

  272. his God, simply by beholding simply by communing.

  273. God graciously, conformed, Moses to reflect his glory.

  274. Now in the New Covenant, what we have now, post Christ Christ has

  275. died and he's been resurrected. He sits enthroned in heaven.

  276. Now, we await his return, he's the king of kings, the Lord of

  277. lords, Satan is bound, right? What we have now is the ability

  278. to worship the Lord, Hebrews tells us that we can come boldly

  279. before the throne of grace and receive mercy and Grace and our

  280. time of need, because we have a high priest in heaven who is

  281. sympathetic in our weaknesses to our weaknesses but being like us

  282. being created as a man and enduring Temptation, he endured

  283. it to the end and was without sin and so he is able to

  284. sympathize with us in our weaknesses.

  285. He invites us to come boldly to the throne Some worship is

  286. restored worship. No longer requires a priest or a

  287. prophet or King. As we see throughout the Old

  288. Testament. Christ is the priest Christ is

  289. the prophet Christ is the king Christ is also the sacrificial

  290. lamb. He became exactly what we

  291. needed. So that worship might be

  292. restored so that we might be in fellowship with God again.

  293. And our passage today is unveiling the new covenants.

  294. We lived in a time where we can Behold The Glory of Christ in

  295. worship because his death and Resurrection has torn the veil

  296. between God and man. if you come to the father through Christ, I

  297. might say through faith in Christ or by faith in Christ,

  298. then you will have restored fellowship with God.

  299. The spirit of God who dwells in you frees, you from the bondage

  300. of sin enabling you to cry out, Abba Father.

  301. As Romans 8 says, And you are able to truly worship him.

  302. Listen to Second Corinthians 3, 16 through 18 again.

  303. But when one turns to the Lord The veil is removed.

  304. Now, the Lord is the spirit and where the spirit of the Lord is

  305. there is freedom. And we all with unveiled face

  306. beholding, the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the

  307. same image from one degree of Glory to another for this comes

  308. from the Lord who is Spirit Amen.

  309. So the purpose of God in corporate worship is that we

  310. Behold Him through his son by the Holy Spirit.

  311. If you will behold God In Worship, You Will resemble him

  312. as His Image Bearer. You are redeemed and beholding

  313. Christ, you were redeemed and turning to him spirit of God.

  314. Creates a new a new heart. You live now by faith in Christ.

  315. And now you were able to Bear the image of your maker, your

  316. bear, you're able to Bear the glory of the Lord in your life.

  317. It's a corporate worship matters.

  318. You know, we were told just a few years ago, a couple years

  319. ago, I guess that corporate worship was non-essential.

  320. Corporate worship was non-essential.

  321. And many people. As I talked to pastors and

  322. friends, and we've seen it here, even many people bought the lie

  323. that corporate worship was non-essential.

  324. It's totally removed themselves from corporate worship for the

  325. last two-plus years. Created new habits.

  326. They were formed and shaped by these new habits. and now, in

  327. many ways, they've turned their heart from God, not to God,

  328. They're following their own stomachs.

  329. But corporate worship is necessary.

  330. Corporate worship is necessary because we easily forget.

  331. Corporate worship matters because it helps us behold

  332. Christ in a weekly liturgical or explain that term in a moment.

  333. Liturgical practice. So that we become like Christ

  334. bearing, the image of his glory as we are being transformed from

  335. one degree of Glory into the same image of Christ.

  336. So if the goal is to become like Christ through beholding, his

  337. glory and regular corporate worship, then corporate worship

  338. must be designed to tell that old story of the Gospel that we

  339. sang about earlier, it must be designed so that we see the

  340. Redemption that we have from God through Christ by the holy

  341. spirit's and to reflect the glory of God, we talk to you

  342. about what liturgy is for. Just a second, just kind of as a

  343. side. Note liturgy just means a work

  344. of the people or a public service that people come

  345. together and do. All right, so if we think about

  346. liturgy that way, liturgy exist everywhere.

  347. The way we typically hear liturgy is the order of a

  348. corporate worship service. What happens in the service and

  349. so in that way, every church has a liturgy but not every liturgy

  350. is good for regularly. That is Week in and week out

  351. beholding the glory of Christ just because a church says their

  352. Church doesn't mean they practice a god glorifying

  353. liturgy. Amen.

  354. Much of it is man-centered the word liturgy might make you

  355. think of more traditional worship experiences.

  356. You know that maybe a word that's used in in some circles

  357. that you grew up in depending on what your church history is.

  358. But the truth is that every church has a liturgy because

  359. every church is coming together and performing a service, right?

  360. It's coming together for some kind of a work and the Order of

  361. a worship service is the Liturgy of that service.

  362. So the way you order your life also is a liturgy, right?

  363. Your your daily habits, your weekly habits, your monthly

  364. routines, those things are shaping you Write it, you are

  365. shaped by those habits. Maybe even in ways, you don't

  366. realize, you may not realize what social media does to your

  367. anxiety. But yet you spend a ton of time

  368. on it not wanting to be left out, right?

  369. Not wanting to miss out on something.

  370. You might not realize how TV or time with certain people shapes

  371. your life but those things shape you absolutely.

  372. And so being with surgical in our approach to corporate

  373. worship happens, whether we acknowledge it or not, we have

  374. habits, we have things we do. And so we must therefore think

  375. through the Liturgy of our corporate worship service.

  376. What are we doing? Why do we do it?

  377. We must search the scriptures and see has God commanded us to

  378. worship him in a certain way. Has God commanded us to do

  379. certain things when we're together?

  380. Spoiler alert? He has, we must discover ways

  381. that we can better Behold The Glory of Christ each week and

  382. our service from the call to worship to the songs.

  383. We sing to the way we announce things to preaching to the

  384. dismissal and everything in between everything matters,

  385. because everything must come under the microscope of God's

  386. word. Are we worshiping the way he has

  387. commanded us to do. In the same way, it's wise to

  388. Think Through Your Daily habits. It's wise to think through your

  389. morning, you know, don't just think about a day as a whole

  390. think about the hours of your day.

  391. You really want to freak yourself out.

  392. Think about the minutes of your day like 15 minute blocks.

  393. Track your time. See, how do you spend your day?

  394. Do you devote yourself weekly or monthly to practicing things

  395. that will help you intentionally Behold The Glory of Christ?

  396. And all that you do? Why do these things even matter?

  397. Well, because the way that a liturgy is shaped will determine

  398. the way that you are being shaped.

  399. Determines how your formed and God forms and shapes you as you

  400. behold the glory of Christ in corporate worship.

  401. And so, therefore, we must shape the Liturgy in such a way that

  402. we all walk away each week. Knowing that we beheld Christ in

  403. our worship service that we saw the Lord in his word and then

  404. the songs we sang and then the prayers that were prayed in the

  405. things that were studied. and the way that we encouraged one

  406. another, we can walk away knowing that God is forming us

  407. that he's shaping Us by these regular practices from one

  408. degree of Glory to another, because we're rightly worshiping

  409. the Lord I said, a moment ago that everything has a liturgy,

  410. it literally does mean, you can think about this and anything

  411. you do, our world is full of liturgies and these liturgies

  412. are seeking to shape, your thoughts to form you to think

  413. about whatever they determined, the good life is and to get you

  414. to pursue that same thing to get you to yearn for it.

  415. So Monday through Saturday, you were flooded with various

  416. liturgies. These things are shaping you at

  417. an unconscious level. Retail stores social media

  418. schools universities, so on. He's saying shape, you your own

  419. practices in your household shape, you do?

  420. We yell a lot. We scream at one another.

  421. Do we fight a lot? Well, guess what?

  422. That shaping here. And it's shaping the children in

  423. your home as well. Write these things shape and

  424. form. But let's take retail stores.

  425. For example, this is an example that's used by Cruise.

  426. Retail stores preach to you the reality of your sin and thinking

  427. that what you have is not enough.

  428. And so, therefore, your sinner, you're broken, we don't have the

  429. newest and best thing. My life is broken, but if I'll

  430. get that thing, That promises salvation.

  431. And so then you were presented with a gospel, right?

  432. If you'll buy this, you won't feel broken anymore as a

  433. marketing major. We were told that well mention

  434. one, you can probably guess the other but it's like of children.

  435. I won't mention it. There's two things that help you

  436. sell a product one will go unnamed.

  437. The second is to create a fear in someone that they're missing

  438. out. But they need your product for

  439. their life, to be whole. and so Monday, through Saturday, you're

  440. being flooded with these liturgies, And you're presented

  441. with the gospel, we can have the newest and best thing if will

  442. come to their store and Shop. This is the hope of redemption

  443. through consumption. We present our offerings.

  444. That is our merchandise. We pick it up on the shelves, we

  445. take it to the altar or the counter, and the priest, or the

  446. cashier, right? Gratefully, accepts them sends

  447. us off with a benediction and a reminder to come again and

  448. worship soon. The liturgy.

  449. However, you know, and I know that the good life that we are,

  450. promised never comes through the things that we purchase, the

  451. things we buy become obsolete, they go out of style, we get

  452. bored with it, all right, that's typically the one that gets all

  453. of us is just boredom with it. So we want more and more.

  454. And we're telling ourselves once for more and more really needs

  455. right? Or mind begins to rationalize

  456. the things. We One is things.

  457. We need because the messages are working.

  458. We're hearing the gospel of consumerism loud and clear.

  459. And so we've been trained in this worship of consumerism.

  460. There are many other examples of how we might be involved in

  461. Daily liturgies from someone else teaching us to Behold The

  462. Glory of their promised, good life, their version of that, And

  463. all of those things would have you behold something other than

  464. your creator, they would have you behold creation and that you

  465. would become more like the world than like Christ.

  466. We all want the good life I mentioned earlier.

  467. You're born with this innate. Desire for something good.

  468. For something bigger than yourself Ecclesiastes 3:11.

    Ecclesiastes 3:11

  469. I just remind myself of this often that in each one of us,

  470. God says that he has put eternity in the heart into the

  471. heart of every man. But so that he cannot find out

  472. what God is up to. There's a desire in us but the

  473. desire we can't come to ourselves.

  474. We can't figure this out on our own because we're unable to were

  475. broken by sin. But there is a desire and

  476. everyone to take, hold of the good life.

  477. And so we fall into the lies of false promises, whatever

  478. promises us the good life and we desperately longed for it.

  479. So we fall into it, whatever those things are.

  480. But there is only one who has promised to give you the truly

  481. good life. He's promised to do so, in

  482. abundance, even in John 10:10 Christ warns those who are

    John 10:10

  483. standing there listening, and he says this, he says, the thief

  484. comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy, but I have come

  485. that they may have life and have it abundantly.

  486. Thief has an agenda. The way that he's going to

  487. plunder, you is not by making it obvious that you are being

  488. plundered, until it's too late. He's going to tempt you with

  489. anything that looks like something better than it is and

  490. as you give yourself to it, you realize I've been duped, I'm

  491. being plundered. And so you see this play out in

  492. people's lives. You see it play out in your own

  493. life probably at times. You bought the LIE.

  494. And now you're reaping the benefits.

  495. The curse of the LIE. Christ says, I've come to give

  496. you life and life. Most abundant are more abundant

  497. And so in Desiring, taking hold of the things of this world, you

  498. were moving farther away from The Good Life Satan tempts.

  499. You, if you will just consume this thing that I'm offering

  500. you, then you will be like, God just as he tempted Eve in

  501. Genesis chapter 2 or 3, sorry. And so you give in to his lies,

    Genesis 2 chapter mention

  502. you behold his offerings and you think man that looks good and in

  503. doing so you become what Ephesians 2 describes as a son

  504. or daughter of Disobedience. You become a child of Wrath like

  505. the rest of mankind, So how do you attain the good life?

  506. How do you reflect the image of the glory of God?

  507. Let's by beholding, the glory of Christ Jesus again, but when

  508. someone turns the Lord, the veil is removed.

  509. Now, the spirit, the Lord is the spirit and where the spirit of

  510. the Lord is, there is freedom and we all with unveiled face

  511. now, because we've turned from our sins turned to the Lord.

  512. We all with unveiled face beholding, the glory of the Lord

  513. are being transformed into. To the same image from one

  514. degree of glory to the next. And this comes from the Lord,

  515. who is the spirit. So again, when one turns to the

  516. Lord, the veil is removed, that's repentance and Faith.

  517. Repenting of your sins exercising faith in Christ

  518. Jesus. A veil is removed.

  519. Beholding here again means to gaze at something to take hold

  520. of something with your eyes. It's like looking into a mirror

  521. at yourself, except in beholding Christ.

  522. We aren't staring at ourselves hoping to be more like Christ as

  523. His Image. Bearers were looking at Christ

  524. to become better image Bears. We're looking at the one to whom

  525. we want to become like, Here's the really difficult part of

  526. this. We know like if you grew up in

  527. church, if you experience, you've tasted and seen this

  528. yourself, like you know, that there are great blessings and

  529. beholding Christ. We Face a conflict every day in

  530. almost every situation, everything that we do, there's

  531. this conflict and it's a conflict of worship.

  532. Are you going to behold? The world and therefore worship

  533. the world. Are you going to behold Christ?

  534. And therefore worship Christ. And so when you're liturgy and

  535. your habits, these things are shaping.

  536. You inform you your your loves are being cultivated through

  537. patterns and repetitions. One man said this.

  538. He said what the heart loves the will chooses and then the Mind

  539. justifies. Really powerful what what the

  540. heart loves the will chooses and then the Mind justifies, in

  541. other words, what happens is we do what we love and our brains

  542. catch up later. It's really kind of a scary

  543. thought. There's not always reason that

  544. goes into what you're doing. You're acting out of Desire,

  545. you're acting out of passion for something and so, it's

  546. imperative that you get your passions correct that you get

  547. this your desires right. Again, this isn't really a bad

  548. thing to be this way. We're created this way.

  549. And so it's not a bad thing. If what we love is what God

  550. loves, amen. If you love what God loves and

  551. you're pursuing the things that he loves, but what if you desire

  552. sinful lust, what if you desire sinful passions or sinful ideals

  553. of what the good life must be? Well then guess what?

  554. You're going to become like them.

  555. Just like the idolaters and Psalm 135.

  556. And so you need to be retrained. It's hard for us to admit.

  557. I'd be even harder to hear at first, but you need to be

  558. retrained. And that's what Sunday worship

  559. is. All about, Sunday worship is the

  560. time of the week when we are told or we're reminded or we're

  561. trained. And what living for God looks

  562. like amen. But and how this is the really

  563. good life. We cannot plan the worship

  564. service. However, we want, we can't come

  565. in and say, well, let's just try this today and see if it helps

  566. us behold the Lord. Let's do this today and see if

  567. it helps behold the Lord. We must be intentional.

  568. We must plan it according to God's instruction so that we

  569. become the kind of people that we are meant to be the kind of

  570. people that God is creating us to be.

  571. And if we do not, if we plan our services the way we want,

  572. according to our own desires according to what the world

  573. says, will help attract the most people which is happening in

  574. churches. Everywhere I have fallen into

  575. this myself. Then our services will look like

  576. the world. Our services.

  577. Are marked by a Dollar Tree. Our worship has become man

  578. centered rather than Christ centered on we plan and

  579. according to our desires, and not the commands of God and you

  580. become what you behold. So, that's a really bad thing.

  581. Christian worship is offensive offensive, not offensive.

  582. Sorry. Christian worship is both

  583. offensive and defensive. When we worship according to

  584. God's standards for worship. We truly behold Christ and

  585. therefore, we are shaped and formed into the image of Christ,

  586. beholding Christ, not only matures Us.

  587. By addition, it adds things to our lives, adds things of value,

  588. helps us see what we need to pursue, but it matures You by

  589. subtraction. The things that you're pursuing

  590. that are not godly, the things that are you pursuing that are

  591. according to your own desires for sinfulness, those things are

  592. exposed in, right? Christian worship you come up

  593. against the law of God and is James describes, the law.

  594. He says that the law is like a mirror for us.

  595. When we look into the law, we see ourselves as we truly are

  596. and that the man who sees himself as he truly is, and does

  597. not change. He walks away without want to

  598. change, anything that that man is a fool.

  599. Koosh. Our desires are transformed in

  600. weekly worship. We are becoming what we behold.

  601. And so, we put off the old man. We put on the new man, that is

  602. ours in Christ, and we need that reminder each week.

  603. There's the author by the name of Michael Horton.

  604. He says, this, he says, even if we are lifelong Christians, we

  605. forget why we came to church this Sunday until it all happens

  606. again. This is so true.

  607. We come in with our shallow scripts, things that have

  608. happened to us over the week, only to be inch reintroduced to

  609. the real script and to find ourselves by losing ourselves

  610. all over again. Amen, he goes on.

  611. It is as God. The spirit works on us through

  612. the proclamation of the word that we are re scripted.

  613. Our Lives purposes identities, and hopes, conform to that new

  614. world into which the word and spirit, Give us new birth.

  615. Earth instead of the other way around.

  616. Finally he says this, he says, instead of remaking, instead of

  617. our remaking God and His word in terms of our experience and

  618. reason we end up being remade caught up in the action of the

  619. Divine drama. Amen.

  620. This is what happens in worship. That is truly for your good and

  621. for the glory of the Lord, we come to be Sanctified by God.

  622. That is we come to be reformed, we come to be reshaped, we come

  623. to be re made we come to worship so that we might truly put on

  624. the Lord. Jesus Christ and reflect.

  625. His glory in the world brothers and sisters.

  626. We cannot approach Sunday worship.

  627. As though we are merely wasting an hour or two of our weekend,

  628. even if you cannot quite see the effects week-to-week of what

  629. regular Christian worship does in.

  630. Your life, you are being reshaped, you are being

  631. reformed, you are being remade by the spirit of Christ Jesus

  632. and we can trust us because second Corinthians 3 says, as

  633. much God forms you and he shapes you, as you behold, the glory of

  634. Christ in corporate worship. So this has to be what we are

  635. pursuing in our weekly worship Services.

  636. A liturgy that is rooted in the gospel story.

  637. God's Redemption of Mankind, through his own son, Jesus

  638. Christ, by the power of the spirit, a service, like this

  639. will simultaneously form within us a desire for the holy or for

  640. a holy life and it will shape us to attain it.

  641. The gospel is not merely a message to be heard, but it's a

  642. life to be lived. Weekly worship should be the

  643. time where we are LED in that lifestyle Forming Us in shaping

  644. us to live as God's children in the land.

  645. Gospel-centered worship services will help us.

  646. See all the ways that God is true and good, and faithful and

  647. steadfast in his love worship. Like, that will set the proper

  648. course for the rest of your week.

  649. You become what you behold and you can either become like the

  650. World by beholding worldly things.

  651. Practicing their liturgy for your life or you can become like

  652. Christ by beholding Christ. Practicing, the Liturgy that God

  653. meant for you to practice. I'll read it again.

  654. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed of the Lord,

  655. is the spirit and where the spirit of the Lord is there is

  656. freedom. And we all with unveiled face

  657. beholding, the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the

  658. same image from one degree of Glory to another.

  659. But this comes from the Lord, who is Spirit The spirit then is

  660. present in our worship. Because the spirit is present in

  661. each believer, you behold Christ himself by the word and spirit.

  662. We'll talk about this in this series at some point, but in

  663. John 4, Jesus tells the woman from Samaria.

  664. That the father is seeking worshipers, Who will worship in

  665. spirit and Truth. And when you do that, you become

  666. like Christ. You were formed and shaped by

  667. God to be more and more like the Eternal Son of God in this.

  668. You were redeemed from the curse of the Fall.

  669. You were made into the image of God once again.

  670. And so I ask you brothers and sisters.

  671. Do you approach Worship in such a way as to be shaped like your

  672. creator? Or do you Worship in such a way

  673. as to be shaped like creation? You come to worship seeking.

  674. What you prefer? What you like best?

  675. Maybe it's the songs, maybe it's the style of preaching.

  676. Maybe it's whatever Sunday school experience, May whatever

  677. it is, right? If we come saying that worship

  678. has to align to my desires for me to fit in, or for me to enjoy

  679. that service. You're not worshipping, God,

  680. you're worshiping yourself. And we need to be very careful

  681. of preferences and worship, especially if those preferences

  682. are ungodly. So I asked, are you being

  683. fashion for heaven or you being fashion for Earth in your daily

  684. and weekly practices? I encourage you to Behold The

  685. Glory of Christ to be transformed into the same image

  686. of Christ from one degree of Glory to another In a moment

  687. we're going to sing and just second actually I'm going to

  688. read some lines from it and then pray for you.

  689. But we're going to sing, is he Worthy?

  690. And I want to read just a few lines from this before, I pray

  691. for you. And the team comes up and leads

  692. us. I want to read verse 23 and the

  693. bridge. I think it aligns very well with

  694. what we're talking about in our worship.

  695. Is all creation groaning. Is a new creation coming.

  696. Is the glory of the Lord to be the lights within our midst.

  697. Is it good that we remind ourselves of this?

  698. Does the father truly love us. Does the spirit move Among Us

  699. and does Jesus, our Messiah hold forever?

  700. Those he loves those are God intend to dwell again with us.

  701. From every people and tribe every nation and tongue.

  702. He has made us a kingdom and Priests to God to reign with the

  703. son. Amen.

  704. Me pray for you and then we'll sing together.

  705. Heavenly Father, we praise you. We praise you for your word and

  706. your kindness toward us today and receiving your word.

  707. We thank you. Lord, that we have Direction for

  708. how to become more and more christ-like that we have

  709. direction that when you commanded your people to be holy

  710. As You Are Holy, you did not just say that and leave them

  711. without any direction. But you've shown us clearly

  712. Lord. How we become holy As You Are

  713. Holy and it's Bobby holding your son Christ.

  714. Or Hebrews reminds us that there was a time where you spoke

  715. through the prophets and the priest.

  716. But now you have spoken to us by your own son and that your own

  717. son is the radiance of the glory, the only true image of

  718. the father for us. And so Lord help us to worship

  719. Christ. Help us to commit ourselves to

  720. him. Or we thank you that you were

  721. altogether different than us. We could not fashion in our own

  722. minds that God, like you, that you far exceed, our thoughts,

  723. your ways are nothing like our ways. or if we had your power,

  724. if we had your character in your, if we were like, you

  725. truly, we would We would mess everything up.

  726. We would misuse the power. We would bend it to our own.

  727. Will we would make others miserable in it.

  728. The father, not you. You were perfect.

  729. You were good. And you were holy and righteous.

  730. Sin will not go on judged, but Lord and Christ.

  731. You have made a way for Sinners to come to you.

  732. We don't have to sit in our sin anymore.

  733. We don't have to wonder, how worship can be restored.

  734. How Fellowship can be had again with the father?

  735. We can come to you through Christ.

  736. Saves us to the uttermost. And so, Lord, I pray today that

  737. if there's anyone in here who doesn't know Jesus as the Lord,

  738. Anyone in here who's not repented of their sins and

  739. committed themselves to Christ by faith believing that he died

  740. and rose again, trusting in their heart that he saves them

  741. from their sins. If there's anyone like that in

  742. here, Lord, would you call them to yourself now?

  743. Would you save them, Lord? Help them to respond in faith.

  744. By your spirit who gives New Life.

  745. And Lord for us, that are believers in here.

  746. We thank you for weekly Worship in the reminder to gaze at you

  747. again because we are so prone to forget.

  748. We're so prone to wonder. And so Lord help us to glorify

  749. your name and all that. We do whatever we put our hands

  750. to let us do it for the glory of the Lord alone.

  751. Lord, would you help us to see Christ and All His glory?

  752. Help our hearts too long for him, above anything that this

  753. world has fashioned for us or anything else.

  754. We might make for ourselves. Was to worship him for who he

  755. is. Lord.

  756. Now as we sing, help us to be repentance, help us to be Christ

  757. seeking Help us to devote ourselves to you.

  758. Now Jesus name I pray. Amen.

  759. Help us to devote ourselves to you.

  760. Now Jesus name I pray. Amen.
