Good evening to you. What?

A welcome you to New Life Community Church for our Good

Friday, service. If you're visiting tonight will

say, welcome to you, we're glad that you chose to come and

worship with us tonight as we reflect on the cross of Christ.

And all of this is meant to prep our hearts, for the

resurrection, for our celebration on Sunday, morning,

of course. But my hope for you tonight is

that you leave with a heart that is full with Possibly even new

understandings of what has happened for you as God's people

at the Cross of Christ. As we look at Second Corinthians

2 Corinthians 5:21

5:21 here in a little bit and let's get a start.

I want to open us in prayer and then I'm going to read a

scripture and then we'll sing together.

So I wouldn't invite you to stand to your feet, so we

prepare to begin. Let me pray for us.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the night that we have

together now to worship Christ. Lord, we are forever.

Indebted to the cross. And so the work there that

you've done on our behalf that you laid on Christ, what was

rightly ours, which is our sin and you gave us what we do not

deserve which is your very own righteousness and we stand here

today and all of such Grace and all of such love and mercy.

And Lord, we ask that you would tune our hearts to it tonight

that we would sing your Praises. As we think about the cross, as

we think about our, our own sin that cents Christ there, and

what all of this means for us, this weekend, Lord, we thank you

for each person. That's here tonight.

May our hearts be impacted mayor of Faith grow.

As a result of tonight's service.

Amen. I want to read to you Isaiah

Isaiah 53 · chapter mention

chapter 53. Just as a way to get us going

here. This chapter is about what

scripture knows. As the sufferings, Servant and

what we know now is the prophecy has been fulfilled in Christ.

This is about Christ and his death on the cross.

I'm just going to invite you to listen as a read-along here who

has believed what he has heard from us and to whom has the arm

of the Lord been revealed for. He grew up before him like a

young plants and like a root out of dry ground.

He had no form or Majesty that we should look at who and no

beauty that we should desire him.

Him, he was despised and rejected by Men.

A Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief.

And as one from whom men hide their faces, he was despised and

we esteemed him not surely. He has borne our griefs and

carried our sorrows, yet. We esteemed him stricken Smitten

by God and Afflicted. But he was pierced for our

transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities.

Is upon him. Was the chastisement that

brought us peace and with his wounds, we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray.

We have turned every one to his own way and the lord has laid on

him. The iniquity of us all he was

oppressed and he was afflicted yet he opened not his mouth like

a lamb that is led to the slaughter and like a sheep that

before, it's Shearer's is silent.

So he opened not his mouth. Mouth by oppression and

judgment. He was taken away and as for his

generation who considered that he was cut off out of the land

of the living stricken for the transgression of my people and

they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in

his death, although he had done no violence and there was no

deceit in his mouth. Yet, it was the will of the Lord

to crush him. He has put him to grief when his

soul makes an offering for Guilt.

He shall see his offspring. He shall prolong his days.

The will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand out of the

anguish of his soul. He shall see and be satisfied by

his knowledge shall the righteous one.

My servant make many to be accounted righteous and he shall

bear their iniquities. Therefore, I will divide him a

portion with the mini and he shall divide the spoil with the

strong because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered

with the transgressors and he bore the sin of many and makes

intercession for the transgressors.

So, what a wonderful meditation to begin are not just on the

cross of Christ, what he bore on our behalf, which was the very

wrath of God, that we might be cleansed of our iniquities.

Amen. So let's begin to sing now with

those thoughts on our hearts and Minds

Oh, to see the dawn of the Darkest Day Christ.

Hey man. Manuel, you have a seat for a

moment. You guys can stay. some of the

things, I'll Wanted us to consider tonight is a bit

difficult to do, honestly, and that is our old said, it's not a

fun thing to have to consider your sinfulness, but it is

indeed our sinfulness that put Christ on the cross men.

And so we have much to be grateful for as we look at the

cross. But we have much to lament as we

think about what took him to that spot.

And so I'm going to read in just a moment.

But what I wanted to offer to you first was just a few seconds

or of some time of quiet to just think about your sin and to ask

the Lord to forgive you. Now of sins you've committed you

know maybe in your life or this week or things you haven't

thought of, maybe you came in here burden tonight with

something to that effect. So if you would just bow your

head you can close your eyes. If you want to you don't have to

and then I'm going to read a passage How's that helps us?

See, that Christ has absolved us from those sins.

I'll give you a moment now. Psalm 51.

Have mercy on me, o God, according to your steadfast

love, according to your abundant Mercy blot out my

transgressions. Wash Me thoroughly from my

iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

For, I know, my transgressions and my sin is ever before me.

against you, you only have I sinned and done what is evil in

your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and

blameless and your judgments Behold.

I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin did my mother

conceive me. Be whole you Delight in truth in

the inward being and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean.

Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

Let me hear joy and gladness that the bones that you have

broken Rejoice, hide your face from my sins and blot out all.

All my iniquities create in me. A clean.

Heart o God and renew a right Spirit Within Me.

Cast me, not away from your presence and take, not your Holy

Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your

salvation. And uphold me with a willing

spirit, Then I will teach transgressors your ways and

sinners will return to you. The liver made from

blood-guiltiness o God, o God of my salvation and my tongue will

sing aloud of your righteousness.

O Lord. Open my lips and my mouth will

declare your praise for. You will not Delight in

sacrifice or I would give it. You will not be pleased with a

burnt offering sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.

A broken and contrite. Heart o God.

You will not despise do good desire on and your good

pleasure, build up the walls of Jerusalem.

Then we'll you Delight in right sacrifices and burnt offerings

and whole burnt offerings, then bulls will be offered on your

altar. We pray for us, Heavenly Father,

we Pray is David Hast that we plead with you according to your

own righteousness that you would blot out our transgressions that

you would create in us a clean heart or there has been

impurity. Lord where we have been defiled,

we ask that you would make a spotless.

Father, we thank you that we can look to Christ.

We can look to the Cross just as we've sung about.

Now that there we see sorrow and love flowing, mingled down.

Lord, it's a great question. Did sorrow, did are such sorrow

and love. Mate.

And father, we look at the cross and we see that your great love

for us has redeemed. Your people of the sacrifice of

your own son, by the atonement that he's made, we are cleaned.

And so Lord, we thank you for washing us.

We thank you for hearing our cries to cleanse us of our sins.

Lord, would you give us mouths now that can rejoice and you

alongside one another to look at the cross Lord, as we open your

word. Now, would you be with us?

Father, we ask that you by your spirit would grant us hearts.

That are good soil. How are your word is planted in

Bears 160 and even 34th worth of fruit.

And so Lord, we submit to you. Now, as we look at your word, we

ask that you would speak to us in the Name of Christ.

And you may have a seat. Every Bible, you can open the

second Corinthians chapter 5. I'm going to read one verse

2 Corinthians 5 · chapter mention

there tonight and we're going to look at verse 21 here in just a

moment. The purpose of this brief sermon

is to reflect on the Indescribable Grace that we see

in the Cross of Christ. I do believe what, Isaac Watts

perfectly summed up. And what we've just sung, a few

moments ago, when I Survey the Wondrous Cross, he says, see

from his head from his hands from his feet sorrow and love

flow. Mingled down and he says, did

are such love and sorrow, meet, or Thorns compose.

So rich a crown. Just really beautiful meditation

on what we see at the Cross of Christ, which is sorrow.

On one hand, it's the death of God's only son, And mingled with

it. The purpose behind it.

All is God's, great. Love for his people, his desire

to redeem, the wicked. To redeem those who seem

unredeemable or who were on their own unredeemable, it's to

save. Sinners, right.

Let's after all, what the Book of Matthew says, when the angel

comes and pronounces their that Christ will be born.

It says, his name Shall be Called Jesus for.

He will save his people, from their sins.

Amen. This is what Christ has done on

the cross as he has brought salvation to his people.

So how can you describe an event that requires death, an event?

That requires Bloodshed an event that requires such sacrifice

that event, where the only innocent not guilty?

Man who's ever walked the face of the Earth was put to death.

How can we describe that kind of event as loving?

Or good or merciful? As we read it earlier and Isaiah

53, it was the will of God. To put him to death.

For what purpose? I believe, the ultimate purpose

is for the praise of God's glorious, Grace as Paul sums it

up in Ephesians chapter 1. As we read there about our

Ephesians 1 · chapter mention

adoption and about the salvation that we have in about the

ceiling of the holy spirit that we've received.

Once we believed this good news of the gospel and says that all

of that is to the praise of his glorious Grace.

It's for the praise of his great name in all the Earth, it's the

secure for himself worship on or due to his name.

At the cross. God, laid your sin on Jesus so

that he could lay his righteousness on you.

In one moment on that Good Friday.

God, imputed, or he accounted your sin to Christ while

Computing or accounting his own righteousness to you.

That's what we're going to look at tonight.

The cross and the coming, Resurrection are the foundation

of salvation for God's people? When I say coming Resurrection

I'm looking to the past but thinking in the future here, as

we're looking At the cross, right Christ, died.

Rose again on the first day of the week.

Second Corinthians 5:21. For our sake.

2 Corinthians 5:21

He made him who knew? No sin.

To become. Sorry for our sake, he made him

to be sin who knew no sin. So, that in him, we might become

the righteousness of God. This is one of the most

important verses in all the scriptures for understanding the

meaning of atonement and justification.

It's I don't know of another place in the scriptures were so

succinctly stated what happened on the cross of Christ.

And it's incredibly significant for us to understand the

atonement for us to understand what has happened in this

justification of sinners, in the death of Christ.

God made his own son to be regarded and treated as Sin even

though he never sinned. We read elsewhere about Christ.

Hebrews 4:15 says, for we do not have a high priest who is unable

to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every

respect has been tempted, as we are yet without sin Christ

without sin. Galatians 3:13 Paul writes their

Galatians 3:13

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a

curse for us for it is written. Cursed is everyone who is hanged

on a tree She got did this for you by his own Rich, Mercy,

according to his own great love and his own astounding Grace, he

has regarded and treated the sins of all who will believe in

Christ as if they belong, not to us, but to Christ himself.

My sin upon him was late first, Peter 2:24 Peter writes there.

He says, he himself bore our sins in his body on the tree

that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.

He goes on there to quote, what we read earlier.

And Isaiah 53. That by his wounds.

You have been healed, praise to Lord.

And becoming sin for our sake Christ.

Became our substitute that is that Christ bore the wrath of

God for sin in our place Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of

Romans 6:23

sin is death. When Adam and Eve fell, they

brought death on the earth. Literally things began to die,

but they were two dead spiritually.

And they would, they would remain spiritually dead if not

for the rescue. Of Christ.

The same is true for us. Christ has died so that we might

live brothers and sisters. This is the doctrine of

substitutionary. Atonement that is Christ.

Provided the atoning sacrifice as our substitute and for the

sins of all who believe he he became sin for us.

We see numerous parallels to this passage in Isaiah 53, which

I read earlier, where the same Greek word is used five times.

When you look at the Septuagint it's the same word that we see

here for sin and reference to the work of the suffering.

Servant, who is the coming savior?

Who is the Son of God? Who is Jesus Christ?

We see there. Surely he has borne our griefs.

And carried our sorrows, yet. We esteemed him stricken Smitten

by God and Afflicted. He was crushed for our

iniquities upon him. Was the chastisement that

brought us peace and with his wounds, we are healed.

The lord has laid on him. The iniquity of us all he shall

bear their iniquities. He bore the sin of many and

makes intercession for the transgressors.

It seemed perfect fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah, some

700, or so years. Before Christ came to the Earth,

our sin on him was laid, amen. God imputed.

Our sin to him. For all who believe in Christ,

praise the Lord. But why?

so that In him, we might become the righteousness of God.

That's what we read here, for our sake.

He made him to be sin who knew no sin.

So that, in Christ, we might become the righteousness of God.

There might be peace with God. That's what we read.

Just a few verses earlier in 2nd Corinthians 5.

It talks about how there has been reconciliation.

Now with the father made through Christ, And that's a result of

us becoming New Creations in Christ, Jesus.

You see this work has achieved righteousness for an unrighteous

people. Just as God, imputed our sin to

Christ and an act of stunning Grace.

He then imputes, Christ's righteousness to us to be clear.

This righteousness is not your own.

It's not of your own doing. In fact, to be crystal.

Clear the scriptures say that your righteousness is as a

filthy rag. Which means it's worthless.

It's not achieving any sort of righteousness, for yourself.

It's not enough to achieve Glory, you and I brothers and

sisters cannot work ourselves into heaven.

We can't work ourselves there, boys and girls.

It's good for you to know. Now that there will not be

enough. Good Deeds.

Yes. Oh, baby.

Mommy, and daddy for this is rights, but there will not be

enough. Good.

Deeds to achieve heaven for you, you must submit your life to

Christ. But what we see is that because

Christ bore the wrath of God for the sins of those who will

believe God, then regards and treats those.

Those Believers as having the legal status of righteousness.

It's there's it's fully, there's because of Christ.

It's not like a hat that he puts on you and then he takes off in

a moment and may put on you again, in a moment and then

takes off and he declares you righteous by his own grace

through faith in Christ. And so the righteousness belongs

to believers. It is the hairs because they

have hidden themselves in Christ by faith and his life and his

death and in his resurrection, all of that.

For your salvation, you're saying, I'm trusting in the work

of Jesus for salvation and so if you are in Christ, then you are

declared righteous by God. What glorious transaction.

The righteousness of God, is the righteousness of Christ, it's

the same righteousness, that is the righteousness, and the legal

status, that belong to Christ, before the foundation of the

Earth, the belong to him, as a result of living.

As the one who knew no sin that righteousness is yours by faith

in Jesus, because of the cross on the cross, God, lays your sin

on him. So that he may take his

righteousness and put it on you. This is the Grace Phil

through-and-through doctrine of justification.

God regards when I say justification this is what I

mean. God, regards or counts Believers

as forgiven And God declares and treats them as forgiven.

You understand what we're saying?

It's not just that he looks at you as such he treats you as

such There's perfect forgiveness in Christ.

It gets better because God the father has imputed the Believers

sin to Christ and because God the Father likewise in pews

Christ's righteousness to the believer.

You now become a co-heir with Christ.

The Bible says, the riches of heaven will soon be your own

riches. The glories of heaven will soon

be yours to enjoy alongside your brother Jesus forever.

What an incredible truth. What an incredible transaction

took place that day. and it must have been noticeable because a

Things begin to change with some of those who were standing near

watching as the events unfolded or those who were literally

hanging next to Christ as events, unfolded, those who once

mocked Christ as they hung next to him.

One begins to submit himself. Lord, will you remember me when

you come into your kingdom? Where were you?

Remember me? When you You know, yeah, when

you come into your kingdom, and Jesus looks at him and says

this, that you will be with me in Paradise.

A Roman soldier who was guilty of being involved in all the

events that led up to the moment.

Looks at him as he breathes his last breath, and some amazing

things happen around with a storm and with the tearing of

the veil of the temple, the Roman soldier looks and says,

surely this man was who he said he was surely.

He was the Messiah. You see, at the cross, God laid

your sin on Jesus so that he could lay his righteousness on

you. At the core of the good news of

the Gospel. Is this Great Exchange?

This great Act of imputation, this great Act of justification

your sin, imputed to Christ, and his death on the cross as he

made, as he was made to be sin for you.

His righteousness is imputed to you.

As you receive his righteous said as he takes your sin away

from you and he gives you his righteousness.

This is The Great Exchange of the core of the Gospel message.

And the shocking transfer lies at the heart of the Christian

faith and it says, clear here in second Corinthians five as it is

anywhere else in the scriptures, this transfer is not some cold

dead transaction. In this transaction.

When someone believes Christ to be who he said he was when

someone declares that he indeed died for their sins and that God

raised him from the dead. An individual is then reconciled

to God forever. The individual is made a new

creation in Christ forever. Only only Say it again, only on

the basis of God's. Great love, Rich, mercy, and

astounding Grace. It's not our own doing.

And fact, once you were a rebel, once you were fulfilling the

evil desires of your own heart, you were obeying as Ephesians. 2

tells us the father of Lies, the prince of the power of the air.

He held you captive by his own deceit.

But now by God's grace you have been adopted by God through

Christ Jesus, death and Resurrection, you are a child of

God, a co-heir with Christ, a brand, new creation with

desires, and affections for God and His will for your life and

for the world, all to the praise of his glorious Grace.

See by his gracious, imputation of righteousness and

justification from the record of sins that is rightfully yours.

You are now connected vitally. Its life-giving connection to

the Lord, by the spirit, which will talk more about on Sunday

morning. But you're also connected

legally Justified free forever, from the bondage of sin set,

free to live by the spirit of God for the Lord.

You're connected, your United is a better word.

Probably you share a union with Christ.

The son of God, And he's imputed, not only innocence, but

righteousness, he's not only giving you a pardon.

He's also his Perfection is placed on you.

Not that your perfect but that his perfect record covers, your

imperfect record. Amen.

Jesus not only stood in your place as a punishment bear, he

is also stood in your place as your lawkeeper.

He not only died the death you deserve, he lived the life, you

should have lived. Everything has been taken care

of for us in Christ. So that we might have eternal

life in him. when the Bible says that you are a brand new

creation in Christ, it means that everything has changed

You've been given a new life. The old it says, has passed away

and all has become new. Things have drastically changed

for us, your legal standing before.

God has shifted from unrighteousness to

righteousness. The status of your relationship

with God has moved from conflict to reconciliation ensuring that

there is peace. Now with God, there is communion

now with God forever. Your very being is transferred

from the impending death of this world, to the promise life of

God's New, creational Order leading you to an increased

appetite for that which pleases God and it gives you a growing

distaste for those things that do not please Hill.

You're growing in godliness. In other words.

You're being Sanctified as those who love the Lord.

He's making you transferring you from one degree of glory to the

next as you continue to behold Christ.

This is my encouragement for us on Good, Friday is do not ever

forget the cross. It's there that the greatest

transaction the world has ever known has taken place.

Your sin for his righteousness. God, the Father with great love

laying on his own. Summon your sin.

So the By His Marvelous Grace, you can walk away covered by the

righteousness of his own son. The Cross of Christ changes

everything, for those who believe in Jesus, because in it

God has laid on Jesus. Your own sin so that he could

lay his own righteousness on you as well.

That's my brief meditation for tonight.

We're going to move forward now with the Lord's Supper, but I

want to offer a prayer and then you guys can stand to your feet.

Heavenly Father, we thank you. For your word. we thank you,

Lord for The Salvation we have. We thank you, Lord, for what we

have at the cross, the imputation and justification.

I've Our sin being removed from us taken and placed on Christ,

his righteousness being placed on us.

Lord, as we read about it in scriptures, it's it's told to us

as a robe that were clothed in a white robe.

It's been washed by the blood of the Lamb.

And so we thank you Father for your own son.

The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Before his persecutors before his Shearer's.

He was silence so that he might take on himself.

Our iniquity Lord, would you humble us with this truce?

Would you help us to never ever once Pat ourselves on the back

and think oh look how good I am. Lord.

Our righteousness. Our Salvation is owing only to

your grace. So, Lord May our hearts be full

tonight of sweet remembrances of your salvation of the moment.

We first came to believe it. We first came to see it as real.

And then in all the ways that you've allowed us to see it a

fresh through the years, Heavenly Father, we love you, we

love your son. We love your spirits.

We thank you Lord. That you have acted on our

behalf. We thank you for the

righteousness that you've given us in Christ help us to always

believed always trust in him. Amen.

Amen. I'm gonna invite you to stand to

your feet Usher's, are going to calm and Prepare to pass out the

elements, I want to encourage you tonight that if you are

visiting, we do practice, what we would call open communion.

But what we mean by that is as long as you're a baptized

believer in Christ. We invite you to participate in

the Lord's supper with us tonight.

And so as those elements come and just a moment, you can take

those. As you take them, I want you to

reflect on a few things as the worship team seems the song.

How Deep The Father's Love For Us?

What you think about the cross, think about the imputation which

we've just heard about read about Your sin for his

righteousness, his righteousness on you, as he takes your sin and

the justification that results in the whole thing, free forever

from the payment, the record of your sins.

Free free to love the Lord with all your heart and mind and

soul. What you to thank God for his

grace. Thank him for the sacrifice of

his own son, on your behalf. Did you do that?

I invite you to sing, pray, whatever you need to do to

prepare your heart, but please take a moment to prepare your

heart. Now to receive communion

wealthy, The Father's, Love For Us.

How vast beyond all measure? That he should give his only

son, don't make a registration. How great the pain of searing

long, the father turned his face away as wounds which Mar The

Chosen One. Bring many sons to Glory.

Behold the man upon the cross my sin upon his soul ashamed, I

hear my mocking voice Gods Among Us.

Got him. This time weather has brought

me. I know it is.

I will not boast in anything. No gifts, no power, no way.

How Deep The Father's Love For Us?

Amen. Amen.

Praise the Lord. And that also all right, First

1 Corinthians 11:23

Corinthians 11:23 Paul writes here.

Encouraging Corinthian Church on the Lord's supper and it gives

instructions. He says this, he says, for I

received from the Lord would also deliver to you.

And on the night, the Lord Jesus was betrayed.

He took bread. And when he had given thanks, he

broke it. And said, this is my body, which

is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.

So let me pray for us. Heavenly Father, we thank Thank

you for the body of your son, Jesus.

We thank you that on this night, as he's explaining to his

disciples. What's about to happen?

He's defining for them, imputation and justification.

He saying this body will be broken for you, so that you

might believe so that you might have my righteousness as your

own so that you might receive salvation.

And so Lord, we eat this bread as we think on the body of

Christ, And we praise, you father.

We Praise You for Your Grace. Amen.

Just take the breath. Paul continues here and First

1 Corinthians 11:25

Corinthians. 11 verse 25, he says, in the same way.

He took the cup after supper saying, this cup is the New

Covenant in my blood do this, as often as you drink it.

And remember it's of me Let's pray.

Father, we thank you. For again, this new covenant.

In the blood of Christ. Hebrews calls it a once for all

sacrifice. That there would have been no

end to the blood of bulls and goats for the atonement of sins.

Even the priest who stood to make the atonement had to atone

for their own sense, but not our great high priest, not your son,

he offers once and for all time, An atonement for sins, that

covers the sins of all who will call on his name in faith

forever. Past present, future sins gone,

erased cast as far as the East is from the West remembered no

more. Justified forever.

Lord, as we've just song. Why should we gain from his

reward? We can not give any answer.

But we praise you for your marvelous Grace and your mercy

toward us. She saw fit to save, unrighteous

people to bring them back into fellowship with yourself.

And so, we thank you for the blood of Christ.

Now in Christ's name I pray. Amen.

Paul concludes by saying for. As often as you eat the bread

and drink the cup you proclaim, the Lord's death until he comes.

And it's true. When you remember the body and

the blood of Christ, you remember the cross, how can you

not be proclaiming his death until he comes, but he will

come. And then I want to leave you

tonight with this comes from a little book, called The Valley

you as we prepare to dismiss tonight.

Heavenly father now has led me singing To the Cross where I

fling down all my burdens and see them vanish.

Where my mountains of guilds are leveled to a plane where my sins

disappear, though, they are the greatest that exist and are more

in number than the grains of fine sand.

But there is power in the blood of Calvary to destroy sins, more

than can be counted, even buy one from the choir of Heaven.

Thou has given me a hillside spring that washes, clear and

white and I go as a sinner to its Waters bathing without

hindrance, and it's Crystal streams at the cross.

There is free forgiveness for poor and meek ones and ample

blessings that last forever. The blood of the Lamb is like a

great River of infinite grace with never any diminishing of

its fullness as thirsty ones. Without number, drink of it.

Oh, Lord forever, will thy free forgiveness live.

That was ganged on the Mount of blood in the midst of a world of

pain, it is a subject for praise and every place a song on Earth

and Anthem in heaven, it's love and virtue.

Knowing no end I have a longing for the world above were

multitude. Seeing the great song for my

soul was never created to love the dust of Earth though here.

My spiritual state is frail and poor.

I shall go on singing calvary's at them.

May, I always know that a Clean Heart full of goodness is more

beautiful than the Lily. That only a clean heart can sing

by night. And by day that such a heart is

mine. When I abide At Calvary.
