Psalms | Psalm 3

Well, happy Memorial Day to you, I'm glad or Memorial Day

weekend. I should say of many, many

things to be thankful for on Memorial Day.

One of those ought to be the freedom together for worship.

Amen. And so we praise God for that

freedom, that we have. That's been afforded To Us by

many who gave their lives to protect those freedoms.

And so, we praise God for that, amen.

It's good to see you. My name is Kyle.

If your Visiting today. Thank you for being here.

I served as lead pastor and we were going to be beginning

again, I guess continuing technically our Series in the

Psalms and so you can open your Bible to Psalm chapter 3.

If you're unfamiliar where the Psalms are, you can just about

grab the Bible, by the middle and open it up and you'll be

probably in a song or very close to but will be in Psalm chapter

3, Psalm chapter 3 Well when I say continuing a series, what I

Psalms 3 · chapter mention

mean is that for the last, I think five years.

Now we have been preaching through some songs during the

summer so we've been committing the summer to preach through

those. We've done as few as seven, I

think as many so far as 10, this summer, we're going to do 12.

And so we're going to preach through 12.

Different songs, you'll hear from different pastors on our

pastor team through the summer. This is an opportunity for them

to to exercise their giftedness as well.

And so I'm grateful to be able to hear from them in the coming

weeks also. But today we begin with some

three. Now, when we talk about Psalms,

one of the things we've said, just kind of the overarching

theme of what we're after our goal, if you will, is to align

ourselves with God's heart, I think that's the purpose of the

songs in the Psalms what we're encountering or men who are

taking their petitions to the Lord men and great distress men

and great turmoil. Men, going Through battles and

all sorts of things. And as we see here, a man who is

on the run from his enemies. And so, when these men carry,

these distresses to the Lord, what they're doing is seeking to

align themselves with God's plan.

So you can could line themselves with the heart of God for them

in those situations. And so, that is what we have.

And I think that's the purpose of the Psalms.

I think it's the purpose of prayer and, you know, it's one

of the reasons. We seeing truths it's because

we're wanting to align our heart with God's heart, wanting to

align ourselves with the heart of God, when describing the

Psalms Puritan pastor and 17th century.

Richard sieves, he said this, he said they are the anatomy of a

holy man, which lay the inside of him outward for all to see

since everything in him coming out for all to see.

He goes on to say, if the scriptures be compared to a

body, then the Psalms would be the art.

They are so full of sweet, affections and passions for

another portions of scripture, God speaks to us.

But in the Psalms, holy men speak to God and their own

hearts, and it's thoroughly that last phrase that we're thinking

about as we think about the Psalms, holy men speak to God

and to their own hearts. It's all about alignment, right?

And so the truth is, this is that whatever whenever you grow

up for, I went out whatever world you live in, whether it

was, you know, the 17th century or first century, or we get into

some be Sierra, right? Wherever you grew up.

The question remains, are you, or are you not going to align

yourself with the God, who created the heavens and the

Earth? It's the question of the day.

It's the question we face today. Is the question will face

tomorrow. It's the question future

Generations. Should the Lord tarry will also

face? Will we align ourselves with the

heart of God or will we not? And so you're going to face this

decision each day to who or to what will I line my heart with

for Christians? The answer ought to be clear.

We're going to align ourselves with God.

And so we strive to do that, But our flesh is rebellious to God's

word are fret. Our flesh is rebellious to God

himself. And so, there's a decision about

alignment to make each day, and really moment-by-moment

throughout the day How am I going to respond to this

situation? In what ways am I going to

glorify the Lord here? And now with the things that are

happening in these circumstances, all right?

And so the Psalms then are a gift from God, concerning your

alignment struggle there, give to the Lord teaching you how to

align yourself with God. And in them we see men billing

openly honestly with God on a variety of issues and every one

of them points us toward God, God's heart.

Every one of them shows us the way to align ourselves with the

heart of the Lord. That's why we are going to spend

these 12 weeks in the Psalms so an invite you now to stand to

your feet. If you're able, as we read,

Psalm 3, When I finish reading, I'll say this is the word of the

Lord and you will respond. Thanks be to God.

Psalm 3, a Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son.

Oh Lord. How many are my foes.

Many are rising against me. Many are saying of my soul.

There is no salvation for him in God C'est Le But You O Lord.

Are a shield about me. My glory and the lifter of my

head, I cried aloud to the Lord and he answered me from his Holy

Hill. C'est, Le I lay down and slept.

I woke again for the Lord's sustain me.

I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set

themselves against me all around arise.

O. Lord, save me.

Oh my God, for you strike all my Enemies on the cheek, you break

the teeth of the wicked salvation Belongs to the Lord,

your blessing, beyond your people say, Le this is the word

of the Lord. Thanks be to God, let me pray

for us. Heavenly Father, we thank you

for today. We thank you for the Psalms and

what they mean for us and Lord, we ask now that you would open

our hearts and Minds to receive your word.

Help us to believe these things that we see here, help us to

commit ourselves. So our actions, our works, our

words each day to you that we might glorify your name in all

the Earth and Lord, whatever circumstances faces, whatever

enemies over, foes May surround us.

Lord no matter how many they may be.

We know that you are the god of salvation Salvation Belongs To

You O Lord. And so our trust is in you fully

to deliver us. And to bring destruction upon

our enemies and we trust you in these things.

We love you. Lord, we commit this time to you

in Christ's name, I pray, amen. Amen.

You may be seated. So the the context of the song

provides the context for our prayer, okay?

So let's talk about the context for just a second.

This Psalm is set in second, Samuel, 15 through 17.

I'm not going to have you turn there, but I'll tell you a

little bit about what's going on in second.

Samuel, 15 through 17 there. What we have is the initial

flight of David from his evil. Son is rebellious.

Son. Absalom Absalom has wrongfully

accused David of things. He's wrongfully sought to stir.

Up many people against the king against God's anointed, and so

now they pursue him to kill him, David's flight.

There is covered in about two nights and the first of, which

would understandably have been most difficult, right?

It's the first night of the flight.

It's the first night of fleeing for your life.

You can understand that he might come to wherever he rested

dejected. He may come there downcast and

after all his son is sick, Going to destroy his life.

He may come, they're upset, but the antidote as we see in this

Psalm, the antidote to his dejection the antidote to his

despair is first to assert Divine truth.

That's what we see in verse 3. And I'm going to walk through

these a little more clearly here in a moment.

But I'm just kind of lay out the context.

The first thing he does, is he asserts to find truth?

Secondly, he seeks Divine Aid there in verse 4 of the

blessings of this. The blessings of this are a good

night's sleep. We see that he lays down to

sleep. That he woke because the Lord

sustained him, but he also has renewed confidence, fresh

confidence for the new day, he went to sleep.

Distressed. He woke up ready to face the

day. Ready to face the enemies of his

day confidence in the Lord and so one day ended in prayer and

verse 4 in the new day. Begins in calling on God to

deliver him. For he is always been the photo

of David's foes and that's ultimately the confidence we

have in the Lord is that he is the enemy of our enemies, right?

He is our friend and our deliverer, but our enemies are

after Kim. This is why Christ says to Saul

in Acts chapter 9. Saul Saul why are you

persecuting me as Saul was seeking to destroy Christians

because anyone who Hands against a Christian ultimately stands

against the Lord. And so he's always been the

photo of David's, foes, David knows this.

And so confident prayer comes from the mouth of David.

He draws on past experiences of Grace, and those past

experiences begets, this assurance for the future that

God will Deliver Us. His Blessing will be on his

people. And so, David models for you.

And I, and for the nation of Israel as it was written in

Meant To Be Sung. And I've for all who come after

right and all who have gone before he models for us genuine,

faith, and extreme distress. He's distressed and so we can

learn to do the same in our times of distress as well.

If you take it notes, I would like for you to write this

phrase down, you have a worship guide their children.

You have one to Salvation Belongs to the Lord for he

destroys his enemies. And He blesses his people, he

destroys his enemies and blesses.

His people salvation Belongs to the Lord.

Amen. So, the first thing we see, is

that David complains to the Lord here in verses 1 and 2?

He utters his complaints of the Lord.

He says, oh Lord. How many are my foes?

Many are rising against me. Many are saying O.

My soul, there is no salvation for him in God C'est.

Le now, you notice the initial address here, it's Lord, right?

Lord, It's translated Lord in our scriptures, but what was

originally written? There was y'all the way which

was the Covenant name of God given to his people.

So he invokes the Covenant name of Yahweh or Lord as we see it.

Now as he draws on or calls on the Lord, he begins his prayer.

He begins his complaint with this Covenant name.

I know that you were the God who does not forsake me, even though

they're saying that there is no salvation for me in you Lord

help me, right? No matter what is going on in

your life matters. What is happening in your

circumstances? You two can come boldly before

the throne of grace and receive mercy, and Grace, in your time

of need. That's what David is modeling

for a series coming Before, the Throne of the king and saying

Lord. How many are those that?

Threaten me. And that's really the sum of his

complaint. There are many foes, that

threaten him and taunt him. There are many foes that

threatened him and taught him. The, the threat of Absalom and

his angry mob is growing. We see, in second Samuel 15,

that, that as that many people, it says, turn their heart to

Absalom meaning, they turned away from the King, they turned

away from God's anointed one. Turn their heart towards a

wicked man who is seeking to lead the people astray and to

destroy God's. Anointed one, it says many turn

their heart from the King to Absalom.

So the angry mob is growing as do Angry mobs, typically grow.

People like to be angry, they like to foam at the mouth, they

like to grow and their descent. They like to utter their

blasphemies against God and his people.

They Rise Against Dave, they say of his soul, there is no

salvation for him in. God does in the end his enemies

are essentially implying this which is you know ironic that

his sins are so great that not even God can save him from their

hands. His enemies are so great that

God is going to let them destroy his life.

David situation is desperate. His foes are many, they're after

him and he is indeed guilty of sin.

He committed adultery and he murdered to cover it up and so

the talk comes to him. There is no salvation for you in

God, there's no one who can save you.

And this is the greatest taunt that anyone can ever utter.

Nothing is worse than the threats of finally, being

forsaken by God. Right.

Is there anything worse that you can think of than God to finally

turn his back on you? Not at all.

Not at all. And so, this brings a moment of

silence for David. Se la, se la, is a liturgical

term. Is it could be a musical term as

far as the song goes, if as it was being sung and you got to

sail, all this might be a musical break a time to reflect

on the accusations of your enemy.

A time to think on those sins, a time to recall those things.

And so, David breaks in his song here.

When your enemies rise against you, or when your enemies Rise

Against God's people, collectively there is an

opportunity. Then to doubt, whether or not

God, will save you as the threat Rises, right.

As the threat increases, you become more aware of the threat

and you because you tend to doubt more, you tend to wonder

whether God could deliver your not, whether God cares to

deliver you or not. You send the doubt the goodness

of God in those moments. But Satan and his demons love to

accuse God's people. They love to accuse God's people

of being too awful to retched for God to save.

Even our worldly enemies, those who have set themselves against

God, they to Rise Against the Lord.

They to Rise Against God's people and other threats and

taunts just as their lord, Satan does.

They seek to destroy the salvation of God's people, by

winning them, over to their own. Cause just as Absalom was

winning these people's hearts away from the King to his own

efforts, Now, one, such instance of this, that we can see in our

day, glaringly brightly on full display for all of us is each

June each June. Ironically, those who have set

themselves proudly against the Lord and their sexual

immorality. Celebrate their self-proclaimed

pride month. It isn't a peaceful celebration

at all. I just saw the other day, one of

the most Blasphemous videos I've ever seen in which transsexuals

were Des, really making a, mockery of the crucifixion of

Christ as they were dressed as Christ on a cross except using

the cross to pole dance. It's Blasphemous.

It's a war. Spiritual warfare.

Is that place? I don't hold them necessarily at

faults in the sense that I do believe they are deceived.

I do believe they'll pay for their wickedness as well.

It's evil does not deduct desire to exist in neutrality with

that, which is eternally good. You understand that right?

Evil. Doesn't seek to be neutral

towards those things that are good.

That is not the way of Satan and his cause so it must set itself

against the world. It must set itself against his

word, it must set itself against his people.

Not simply one example, right? Like it.

And it's next week. So be prepared for the onslaught

of pride month propaganda that will come into your home.

We're television and their social media, and whatever else.

Right? Be on guard against those

things. There are many examples of the

enemies of God setting themselves against God's people

with threats, and taunts and our world today.

But they want to destroy the faith of God's people.

We see this past present future like this is always going to be

the case until the Lord returns. At times they sought to do.

So through martyrdom thinking like those who crucified Christ

that if we take his life, we end the threat of his rule wrong.

You only strengthened his rule, you only made his rule more

appropriate for his people. You only made people more

aligned to his ways. You only made salvation possible

through those who believe in Christ Jesus, by taking his

life. Amen.

I'm calling himself. God was not Blasphemous.

It was truth and he was murdered for an unjust reason and yet by

him all of us who are unjust may be justified, may receive

justification. We may receive final pardon we

may receive Mercy where we ought not received Mercy, praise the

Lord for such Grace, yet though, the enemies of God Arise against

him and his people. Salvation Belongs to the Lord.

That's the refrain of. This passage salvation is in the

hands of God. It's not according to what the

enemies are doing. It's belongs solely to him.

It is he who destroys his enemies and he who blesses his

people, and that brings David tube of the Declaration of

confidence. He declares confidence in the

Lord here in verses 3, through 4.

He says, but You O Lord. So what was it?

Why is he saying about you? Well because at the end of verse

2, he says they're saying there is no salvation for him in God

but You O Lord. Are a shield about me.

You are my glory and the lifter of my head, I cried aloud to the

Lord and he answered me from his Holy Hill C'est Le and so now

the psalmist reflects, he reflected once upon the enemies,

he reflected Once Upon that which they were seeking.

Due to destroy him. And now he reflects on the

goodness of God, he's confident in the work of the Lord.

He is saying, you are my shield. You are my glory, you are the

lifter of my head. I cried aloud to you and you

answered me from your Holy Hill. Where's his confidence in the

Lord? It's not in his own hands, it's

not in his own skills, it's not his own knowledge, it's his

confidence as in the work of the Lord.

Here we see that despite the attacks of his enemy, David is

finding great comfort great help from the Lord and remembering

the Lord's past works on his by of.

You are my shield, my glory, the lifter of my head.

In other words, you were my Defender, you're my state of

high on or you're the source of my comfort and strength, though.

He is in great distress, David looks to the Lord for help.

He declares what he believes, he declares what he knows to be

true. About God, when your heart and

your mind are sinking into despair, brothers and sisters,

you must speak back to your heart and mind, you must order

the Glorious truths of God on your behalf.

Amen. If you can't see it for

yourself. If you haven't seen it by your

own experiences, yet you go to the word of God and you say

David prayed, Lord, that you were his shield that you were

his glory, that you were the lifter of his head that you,

this is the Covenant. God at work in the lives of his

people and I to now other these things to you.

Lord. I to trust these things because

David says, this is who you are. I trust that it is true.

I know that this is your word and see how that works right

here just recalling. The nature of God's word, back

to himself, the content of his word back to him, not as if

you're trying to remind him but you're declaring it to your own

heart and mind. Amen, you're not letting your

thoughts run wild with you. You're not letting your emotions

over take you instead. You're speaking to those things

and you're saying as David pray or yeah, David phrase in Psalm

42. Why are you down cast on my

soul, right? And then you're just speaking

back to your own heart and mind in, those problems in those

things, you're not letting them run you.

One commentator wrote this, he said, as long as this light

shines in our hearts these truths of God, right?

As long as this light shines in our heart, we are not cut off

from God, but are accepted and heard by him, and will receive

Divine help, comfort, and deliverance, as long as this

light shines, this is exactly what David does.

I cried aloud to the Lord and he answered me from his Holy Hill.

David cries out to God he's reminding himself of all the

ways that God has cared for him in the past and doing so has

built confidence for his present moment doing.

So has enabled him now to walk by faith.

Doing so his allowed him to look blindly upon his present

circumstances to not worry about those things so much but to fix

his eyes on the Creator. The one from which his help

actually comes for what he sees. Around him looks like utter ruin

yet. He knows that his Lord can save

him, amen. And then he just says sayla.

Another words, here's another musical break.

Here's another moment to pause and to reflect on God, my

shield. It's another time.

Another moment to think about the God who comforts me and my

afflictions, The God, Who is my glory, The God, Who is the

lifter of my head? And my Affliction right?

He's taking time now to reflect on the goodness of God, towards

him in the past, praise the Lord you two can do this.

And David is a great example to us here.

What it looks like to speak to our miseries.

He's a great example of what it looks like to speak to your

despairs to not let them overtake you like a you know,

like a rain cloud on a cartoon show right there, just kind of

follows you around everywhere, raining on you all the time.

But rather to speak to those things, and to say that God, is

your help. When your enemies taught you

when your enemies, threaten you. Let it let it trigger your

faith. Not your anger.

Let it trigger your faith, not your despair.

Let it let it invoke faith in you to say.

It does not matter what they say, it does not matter what

they do. It does not matter if they foam

and foam, and I don't care what I care about is, the Lord is my

deliverer. The Lord is mighty to save the

Lord is my helper. And so when they do that, you

recall the Covenant keeping nature of God, you Proclaim his

faithfulness, his steadfast love both in what you've seen in his

word and through your own experiences.

You recall these things and in doing so you do like David will

receive renewed confidence. And that confidence leads to

peace a confidence breeds hope. Despite your present

circumstances salvation Belongs to the Lord, for he destroys as

enemies and blesses, his people. The next thing we see, the third

thing we see here about David as he sings of his safety, I'll

office. He sings of his safety, it is

prayer of confidence in the Lord supplies him with Security.

Even while he's being hunted, May you got many foes Rising

against you. This isn't you know modern day

where you can hop on an airplane and take off and disappear

rather quickly at least for a while or hop in a car and drive

away long as you got a good hour Head Start, Right?

This is were fleeing on foot or were fleeing on Horseback but

they're going to find us they're going to catch up.

And yet. After he recalls his desperate

time, his need for the Lord. He gives his confidence now,

right in the Lord that you are my help.

And now, he lays down to sleep. He lays down to sleep.

He says, I lay down and slept, it's almost like that.

Next Salo led to a moment that lasts a led to this moment of,

okay? Now my soul is quiet before the

Lord and I will rest. It's a beautiful picture of

trust. I lay down and slept.

I woke again for the Lord sustained me.

I could have shown up while he was sleeping.

I'm not saying there weren't Watchman.

I'm sure there were, but David didn't feel the need to be one

of those Watchman. He says, I lay down and slept

and the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of many

thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around

It's beautiful, isn't it? But the past helps of the Lord

the things he's recalling. Bring him peace.

I bring peace for rest and bring courage for a new day.

One of the best ways to examine your own trust in the Lord is to

examine your sleep. How well do you sleep at night?

Can you rest when you're going through difficult circumstances,

when you're being tried, by the circumstances of your life, the

things that are going different trials.

Can you close your eyes and sleep?

And I mean, can you do it without depending on medications

or other such helps, we might call them.

In other words. Where does your dependents rest?

When you lay your head down at night?

Who are you trusting in, where is your confidence?

Is it in God? Or are you overwhelmed by the

pursuit of your enemies? You go to bed with a mind that

is racing thinking through how you will save yourself in those

moments. How you will be the savior of

your life or do you lay down and say, my trust is in you Lord.

It's a great question to ask and understand this.

When you depend on the Lord, he will sustain you as why the

Lost. Why David says, I laid down to

sleep. I woke again, the Lord sustained

me. Praise God.

The word sustained here means that he gave him everything

necessary for life. Literally keeping him alive,

right? Keeping his enemies at Bay so

that he could sleep and rest and Rise Again With A Renewed

dependence on the Lord. But when the Lord is sustaining

you, he's granting to you all the necessities and support that

you need to live. He's taken care of.

It's one of the beautiful things about the child who grows up in

a home where the parents are loving them, and caring for

them, is, there is a total dependence upon their parents

from the child's heart to provide for them right?

Anytime they need something, anytime they want something

whether they need it or not, right?

Who do they come to? They come to the parent who

provides, right? Because they trust that this man

and this woman. We'll take care of me.

They love me, right? Well, it's the same childlike

dependence for the children of Faith to their God or it should

be right. I lay down to sleep at night.

I trust that the Lord is sustaining me.

Arise and I go into the next day knowing that foes many of them

encamp around me and yet I trust that the Lord sustains me.

I trust in him to provide for me.

There's nothing lacking in that which is needed when the Lord

provides for you. Now I said that which is needed

not wanted rights would be lots of things you want and the Lord

with holds from you because it's better for you, not to get those

wants. Just like you do for your child

if you love them, right? The Lord takes care of every bit

of it. When you fully trust him, you

have nothing to worry about. You don't need to make up, what

is lacking in God, because there is nothing lacking in the

sustaining nature of the Lord. Trusting.

And once you see the hand of the Lord at work in this way, you

two can say, I will not be afraid of those who have set

themselves against me all around whether that enemy be Satan or

his demons or your own conscience, which accuses, you

or the wicked persons of your day.

There is no need to fear any of those things.

Even if their name is Legion for, they are many, right?

Because it is the Lord who sustains you and all your

circumstances. Trust him.

Salvation Belongs to the Lord for he destroys his enemies and

blesses. His people Finally, what we see

is that David strengthens himself for future conflict.

He strengthens himself for future conflict.

In verse 7, David reitze, arise O, Lord, save me.

Oh my God, for you strike all my enemies on the cheek.

You break the teeth of the wicked salvation Belongs to the

Lord, your blessing, beyond your people say, Le on the previous

verse David says, I will not be afraid because the Lord has

sustained me, right? And now, we see why.

Now we now we see what his confidence is.

He knows that he can call on the Lord and Lord will rescue him

from his enemies. The Lord will deliver him there.

Taunting him saying there is no salvation Davis and uh, there is

only salvation in God. There is only salvation for me

in the Lord. In fact, all salvation belongs

to him and he is who I'm looking through.

David teaches us that the Lord vindicates his people, he

exercises judgment on the wicked.

Now earlier in the passage in verse 1, we saw that the mom was

Rising against David that it was growing and it was Rising

against him. Um, but here in verse 8, verse

7, sorry, he makes a request for the Lord to arise now on his

behalf. How many of you know when the

Lord arises that's going to be greater than the arising of any

of your enemies? Amen.

When you've got enemies a rising all around you.

When you got enemies seeking to destroy you and you invoke the

name of the Lord Lord arise for me, for there is no salvation

apart from you and the Lord arises on your behalf.

Laughs, how many of, you know, you can have great confidence in

that, right? We just saw in Romans 8, last

week, if God is for us, who can be against us, nothing?

No one can be against us. Neither death nor life nor

angels, nor demons nor principalities nor things

present, nor things to come right?

Nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus,

your lord. So when the Lord arises on your

behalf, you have all that you need.

You have everything you need. There's no need to fear any

longer. There's no need to fear what the

Lord might take from your life. There's no need to fear with the

Lord might bless and your life. There's no need to fear.

What enemies might arise against you.

Any longer you can trust the Lord, no matter what all the

time through and through. He is God and he's worthy of

your trust. And so he makes his request.

The Lord arise show me favor by scattering, my enemies, save me.

Oh my God, he says though, his enemies taunt him by saying,

there is no salvation for him, David Christ of the Lord for

salvation. So, I don't care what you guys

say. I don't care what my enemies are

saying about God. Here's what I know to be true

about him. He cries to the Lord for

salvation. He pleads with God to deliver

him from harm. When he when he says, save me, o

God, the word saved there is a deliverance from harm ruin or

destruction. And so, he's pleading with the

Lord, prevent me from harm, prevent me from falling into

ruin. Prevent me from going to their

Destruction for me. Here, then we see what he prays

for his praying for salvation. This salvation, he says, Belongs

to the Lord, It's the Lord, who is meaning?

It's the Lord, who holds it. The Lord possesses our

Salvation, the Lord holds the salvation of his people.

And I do mean, the ultimate salvation of his people, but

also in these moments, like, what David's praying for

salvation comes from the hand of the Lord and so therefore it is

not up to his enemies, right? It's not under there.

R control, it doesn't matter if they stack themselves against

him by the tens of thousands salvation, still Belongs to the

Lord. However David understands that

his Deliverance will have to come with the destruction of

these Wicked people and so he has no problem praying for you

strike. All my enemies on the cheek.

You break the teeth of the wicked.

The wicked here. Are those who are Godless The

word literally means characterized by godlessness.

It's all the people who have set themselves against God and the

wicked here, like ravaging dogs. So, to speak, they're sinking

their teeth in God's man, or in his people the working to

destroy him. And so then God's Deliverance is

like a blow to the jaw, which shatters their teeth.

Releases the death grip of the Wicked on the righteous and

freeze the righteous man. This is the kind of Salvation

that God brings for his people. David is emboldened to ask for

such help because God is regularly protected him

throughout his life, from his enemies in the past.

And he's done so by shaming those enemies and by rendering

them, powerless, even unto death.

It started with a lion and a bear in the wilderness as David

was a young man. it continued with Goliath Who Rose against

God's people and David said, He continued then and his kingship

as many Wicked armies and Nations fell under his Rule and

so on and so forth. How might God stop the wicked

today? How Mighty stop the wicked

today? Do we pray?

These imprecatory prayers today. Yes, it's in God's word.

We ought to pray for the destruction of the wicked, but

here's two ways, you might see the wicked.

Destroyed one, is there just destruction, right?

One is that whether in this life or in judgment to come, they're

going to receive the just destruction that they have

earned. They've set themselves against

God and if they go to their graves setting themselves

against God, they will receive a just punishment for doing.

So and in this, we are told in Revelation that the righteous

Will Rejoice over them. Secondly, their salvation is

also a destruction of the wicked.

All right. One way to break the jaw and

shatter the teeth of the wicked is by a merciful salvation.

You can you render them? You know, it's a shattering of

the Jawbone. It's a shattering of the teeth

you, they're unable now to set themselves against God's people

because their heart has been changed.

I've been given a new heart that loves the Lord.

A new heart that loves his people, so we can, and should

pray for the Salvation of the wicked.

You should pray for their destruction, you should pray for

the Lord to turn the hearts of pride month.

Celebrators unto himself. You should pray that they would

humbly submit themselves to the Lord.

The Apostle Paul is a great example of this.

Again, I mentioned earlier, he was a persecutor of Jesus and

his people and yet the Lord saved him and he became God's

man, the greatest missionary the world has known.

Christ can save the wicked of our day as well.

Amen, this is our great confidence that he can save a

Wretch. Like Me.

He can save anyone. There was nothing in me that God

looked at and said, oh, he's worthy of saving how great he

is. No God saved by grace alone,

through faith alone in Christ alone, according to his own will

alone, you know. And so we know that anyone can

be saved. We must pray for the Salvation

of wicked people. Pray for your enemies.

Jesus says, bless those who persecute you.

Why? Because it might turn their

heart around. Romans 12 says that it's like

heaping burning coals on their head to treat them well in those

persecutions. Pray for the destruction of

Godless agendas. Pray for the destruction of

their desire to wickedly influence, the rest of the

world, your children, especially by invoking, their religion of

self on others. Pray for these things, believe

God to destroy such evils, but pray that he'll destroy it by

bringing them to Salvation. Amen.

Salvation Belongs to the Lord for he destroys his enemies and

blesses his people in verse 8. This is what we see.

Really explicitly salvation Belongs to the Lord, your

blessing beyond your people sale.

Despite what is happening in our world.

Despite what takes place next month which is also a

celebration of life if you remember last year's Supreme

Court decision. Amen.

Despite what is happening in our world salvation Belongs to the

Lord. His Blessing will be will be on

his people. We can trust in that.

Always another commentator. Said this, about this verse.

He said, the church will always be delivered from the disasters

that befall her because the God who can save her will never

withhold his grace and blessing from her.

Amen. Believers.

Listen to me for a moment. The prayer that you see here and

does not replace the work that you are called to engage in on

behalf of God. Doesn't replace the work.

It empowers. The work.

When enemies set themselves against you again, Satan is

demons your conscience, whatever your accusers come.

You engage in the work of confidently trusting in the

Lord. This prayer enables that it

doesn't replace it. Amen.

It's part of it. It makes it effective.

Trust the Lord with all your distresses and he will deliver

you. Amen.

And what you need to do is pray. Even now in your heart that the

spirit of God will show you what distresses in your life right

now. Do you need to be trusting like

this, in what things are encamped around you in your mind

and in your heart? What fears do you have worries?

What concerns? What things are threatening to

destroy your faith even now. Pray for the Lord to sustain

you. Pray for the Lord to give you

rest, pray for the Lord to give you confidence in His holy name.

Amen. now, if you're an unbeliever in here, first of

all, I thank God that you're with us today.

I think it's important for you to hear such things salvation

comes from Christ. David mentions here.

The Holy Hill and I cried, he answered me from his Holy Hill.

Salvation comes from a Christ, the lord, the Son of God, who

was crucified on a Holy Hill, amen.

If you will believe that Christ, died is the payment for your

sins and rose again for your salvation from your sins, then

you will be saved today. Bible says, confess with your

mouth, that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart, that God

raised him from the dead, and you will be saved, whoever calls

on the name of the Lord will be saved.

You have that confidence today that you too.

As David says, I cried out to the Lord, you too can cry out to

the Lord in your distress. Your distress of sin.

You're guilty. And your bearing, a burden, you

don't have to bear. And as soon as you'll cry out to

the Lord, the burden will fall off your back.

Just like it does for Christian in the Pilgrims Progress.

And you will begin your journey with the Lord as you commit

yourself to him. So commit yourself to God,

repent of your sins, place your faith in him.

I want to pray for us and then we're going to receive the

Lord's supper together. Heavenly father, I thank you

today for your word, and for the time we've had now in, that's

what I pray for, those who don't know, you who have not been

saved. Lord.

Would you save them today from their sins?

Would you grant them faith and Christ?

Lord, I pray that you would help them believe that Jesus is Lord

to repent of their sins and to commit themselves to him.

Father, for those in here, who are your people who have

believed already, would you strengthen them for the day,

whatever their circumstances are whatever enemies are.

Encamped around them, Lord help them to have the boldness, the

courage to confidently. Cry out to you to seek your face

in their distress, to trust you. And whatever befalls them,

whatever is in front of them. Lord, may they to be able to

say, with David. You are my shield, my glory, and

the lifter of my head salvation, Belongs To You O Lord.

Lord would you be with us now as we receive the Lord's Supper,

it's in Christ's name. I pray.
