Welcome back to the trucker Church, your mobile church on
-
the road on Brandon. And today we're rolling deeper into
-
the Gospel of Matthew. Whether you're cruising down I forty,
-
pulled over a rest stop, or sitting in a cab
-
waiting on the load, you're in the right place for truth, encouragement,
-
and some good time with God's Word. Last time, we
-
looked at Matthew one and talked about the family tree
-
of Jesus and how God used ordinary people, some with
-
pretty messy past, to bring them asigh into the world.
-
We saw how Joseph stepped up in obedience trust in
-
God even when the situation didn't make sense. Today we're
-
jumping into Matthew too. And let me tell you, this
-
chapter feels like I'm mix so a Christmas pageant and
-
a suspense movie. We meet some wise men apparento what King,
-
and the baby who's already shaking up the world without
-
saying the word. So grab your Bible or just tune
-
in as we cruise through the Word. Let's hit the
-
road with Jesus. Let's start with verses one and two
-
in Matthew two. Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem
-
of Judea, the days of Herod the King. Behold, the
-
wise men from the east came to Jerusalem saying, where's
-
he who has been born King of the Jews? But
-
we saw a star when it rose and have come
-
to worship him. Right out of the gate we meet
-
the wise men. Now, these weren't kings like we often
-
sing about it Christmas. The Greek word is magi. They
-
were like astrologers, scholars, maybe from Perso or Bibylum. They
-
weren't Israelites, but they were searching for the truth. Here's
-
what's while. They traveled one hundreds of miles, maybe even
-
over a thousand, just.
-
To see Jesus.
-
Why because they saw some in a star and they
-
believed it meant something big. Sometimes folks outside the church
-
are more open to seeking Jesus than the ones who
-
should already know him. These men came a long way,
-
probably of a rough terrain of long nights, just to
-
bow down at the feet of a baby. Let me
-
ask something, driver, how far are you willing to go
-
to find Jesus? What are you willing to leave behind?
-
Now they show up in Jerusalem asking about the newborn king,
-
and that gets the attention of a man who's anything
-
but the real. So it's look at verse three. When
-
Herod the king heard this, he was troubled and all
-
Jerusalem with him. You know, Herod wasn't a nice guy.
-
He was paranoid, power hungry, and brutal. History tells us
-
he killed his own wife and sons because he thought
-
there were threats to his throne. So when he hears
-
as a new king of the Jews, he doesn't get curious,
-
he gets dangerous. He's secretly calls in the wise men
-
and tries to find out when the star appeared, and
-
he tells him, go and search diligently for the child,
-
and when you have found him, bring me word that
-
I too may come and worship him. That's verse eight.
-
But we know that's a lie. Rod had no plans
-
to worship. He wanted to eliminate the competition. So what
-
do we take away from this? Not everyone who talks
-
like a worshiper has the heart of one. Some people
-
talk a good game, but their motives aren't pure. That's
-
why when we need discernment and wisdom from God, especially
-
in today's world. The star that leads the wise men
-
to Bethlehem, and verse ten says when they saw the star,
-
they rejoiced exceedingly, with great joice, with great joy. In
-
verse eleven, and going into the house, they saw the
-
child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and
-
worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered gifts gold
-
Frank and sense and mir Let's break down these gifts.
-
Gold.
-
Gold was a symbol of royalty, and Jesus is the King,
-
frank and since was used in worship, and Jesus is
-
our high priest.
-
Mr.
-
Mr was used for burial, a hint that this baby
-
was born to die for us. And after all this,
-
God warns him in a dream not to go back
-
to Herod, so they take another route home. When you
-
really meet Jesus, you leave changed, and sometimes you take
-
a different road. That's our takeaway from that section. Now
-
let's look at verses thirteen through fifteen. An angel of
-
the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, rise,
-
take this child and his mother. Flee to Egypt, for
-
Herod is about to search for the child to destroy him.
-
So Joseph packs up his little family and hits the
-
road again, know arguing no delay, trust God and obeys,
-
and they head to Egypt, fulfilling a prophecy from Isaiah.
-
Out of Egypt, I called my son. Following God sometimes
-
means making sudden moves. Sometimes he tells you to change lanes.
-
Are you listening and now and knows how? God used
-
the gifts The Wise Man brought gold, Frank consents and
-
murder to likely help finance her journey and time in Egypt.
-
God always provides, so we get through verse sixteenth through eighteen.
-
Everything takes a dark turn. When Harry realizes the Wise
-
Men aren't coming back. He goes into a rage and
-
orders all the male children in Bethlehem two years old
-
and under to be killed. It's horrific. Matthew says. This
-
fulfilled a prophecy from Jeremiah about weeping in Ramah. This
-
reminds us that evil still operates in the world, but
-
it never thwarts God's plan and sorrow and darkness, God
-
is still moving. Jesus was protected. The enemy tried to
-
stop the Messiah at a birth, but he failed. Eventually,
-
Herod dies and Joseph gets another dream. The angel says
-
it's safe to return to Israel, but when Joseph here
-
here's a Herod's son is Rulin. He's hesitant, and again
-
God speaks. He moves the family to Galilee, settling in Nazareth.
-
This will fill another prophecy. He shall be called a Nazarene.
-
So let we take away from chapter two. Here God
-
speaks to those who listen. Joseph heard from God multiple
-
times because his ears were open. Obedience leads to protection.
-
Every time Joseph obeyed, he kept his family safe, and
-
Jesus's life will fill prophecy after prophecy, even as a baby.
-
This proves he is who he says he is. So
-
make sure that we, as believers and followers, listen and obey.
-
Let's all, let's pull over and pray. Lord, thank you
-
for watching over us, just like you watched over your son.
-
Help us be like the wise man, willing to seek
-
you with all our hearts. Help us be like Joseph,
-
quick to listen, quick to obey, Protect us on the
-
road and guide our hearts, and keep our eyes fixed
-
on you in Jesus name. Amen. That's it for today's
-
Bible study on Trucker's Church. Next time we'll jump into
-
Matthew three and meet John the Baptist Camel hair locus
-
and a call of repentance. You won't want to miss it.
-
If today bless you do me a favor, Share this
-
with another driver, a friend, and remember, no matter where
-
the road takes you, God's right there in the cab
-
with you. Keep the rubber side down, faith lifted up,
-
and I'll catch you next time. God bless and drive safe.
