Welcome back drivers to Trucker's Church, the place where God's
-
Word rides with us wherever the road leads, I'm brandon
-
And whether you're behind the wheel on the night run,
-
parked with a view of a wide open field, or
-
just sitting in your cab between deliveries, this time is
-
set aside for something eternal. Today we're diving into Matthew
-
chapter four. This chapter starts off with Jesus in the wilderness,
-
facing the devil head on, and ends with him walking
-
the roads of Galilee, calling disciples and healing the broken.
-
If you've ever felt tempted, isolated, or ensure your purpose,
-
this one's for you. So just grab our bibles or
-
just listen in and hit the road with Jesus. Jesus
-
is tempted in the wilderness Matthew Chapter four, verses one
-
through eleven. Let's start in verse one. Then Jesus was
-
let up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be
-
tempted by the devil. Right after his baptism. Jesus didn't
-
go straight into ministry. He goes straight into battle. He
-
fasted for forty days and nights, no food, just him,
-
the Spirit and the enemy.
-
Lurking.
-
Let's break down the three temptations Satan throws at him.
-
Number one, turning stones into bread. He said in verse four,
-
if you are the son of God, command these stones
-
to become loves of bread. But Jesus answers. It is written,
-
man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
-
word that comes from the mouth of God. When we're
-
physically empty, tired, hungry, worn down, the Emi tries to
-
fill us with the wrong stuff, but Jesus shows us
-
the word is more nourishing than food. That's why listening
-
to the Bible while driving or soaking in truth at
-
the end of a long haul really matters. Temptation number two,
-
prove yourself with a miracle, he says in verse seven,
-
if you are the son of God, throw yourself down,
-
for it is written he will command his angels concerning you.
-
Jesus replies again, it is written you should not put
-
the Lord your God to the test. Sometimes we feel
-
like God needs to prove himself. But faith isn't about
-
forcing God's hand. It's about trusting his heart. And even
-
when you're stuck in the wilderness with no self service
-
and no answers in fright, temptation number three, take the
-
easy road to power, he says in verse ten, all
-
these kingdoms I will give you you fall down and
-
worshiped me. But Jesus said, go on, Satan, for it
-
is written you shall worship the Lord, your God, and
-
him only shall you serve. The devil will always offer
-
short cuts, get rich quick, take the easy job, bend
-
your integrity. But God's path may be narrow and hard,
-
and it's still the best way there is. Every time
-
Jesus faced temptation, he responded with scripture. He didn't argue,
-
He quoted the word. If Jesus needed scripture in the wilderness,
-
how much more do we? Okay, let's look at when
-
Jesus begins his ministry. In Matthew four, verse twelve through seventeen.
-
Verse twelve tells us that when John the Baptist was arrested,
-
Jesus left Nazareth and moved to Capernaum by the sea.
-
This fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy Isaiah sixteen. The people dwelling in
-
darkness have seen their great light.
-
Jesus begins to.
-
Priest the same message as John, repent for a kingdom
-
of heaven is at hand. Even when darkness seems to win,
-
when good people get locked up, when hope feels distant,
-
God's life shunds brighter. Jesus starts his ministry in the
-
shadow of John's the rest. He doesn't back down, he
-
steps up. You don't have to wait for perfect conditions
-
to live your calling. Sometimes the road gets tough, but
-
that's exactly when God calls us to shime. Let's look
-
at when Jesus calls the first Disciples and Verses eighteen
-
through twenty two, Jesus is walking by the sea of
-
Galilee with sees two brothers, Simon, Peter and Andrew, and
-
he says, follow me, and I will make you fishers
-
of men. Immediately they left their nets and follow him.
-
In verses nineteen and twenty he sees two more James
-
and John, and they leave their boat when they find
-
their father to follow him. These men were not rabbis,
-
they weren't priests. They were blue collar, hard working fishermen,
-
every day guys, and when Jesus called, they dropped what
-
they were doing and followed. Now, Jesus walked up to
-
you while you were doing a pre trip inspection and
-
said follow me. Would you go what's he calling you
-
to do right now. Maybe it's being a witness and
-
a truck stop diner. Maybe it's praying over your deliveries.
-
Maybe it's starting to podcast. We're just being kind to
-
the next dispatcher who tests your patience. Let's look at Jesus.
-
Heals and draws crowds, and Verses twenty three to twenty five.
-
Verse twenty three says, and he went through He went
-
throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the
-
Gospel and healing every disease and affliction among the people.
-
Crowds start to follow him, people from all over. He
-
meets the coneds and spiritual ones. And that's what Jesus
-
still does. He meets us where we are wounded, tired, sick,
-
and sinful and brings healing and hope. Here's the big picture.
-
Jesus fought temptation in private before he administered in public.
-
He preached truth, called everyday people, and healed hurting souls.
-
His ministry began humbly but powerfully. Let's pray together, Lord Jesus,
-
thank you for showing us how to stand strong and temptation.
-
Thank you for starting your ministry, not with power and fanfare,
-
but with obedience, truth, and compassion. Help us walk in
-
your footsteps, resisting the enemy, shining our light and answering
-
your call. Whether we're fishing, driving, or just trying to
-
get through the day, help us say yes when you
-
call in Jesus name. Amen. That's it for today's episode
-
of Truck of Church. If this message encourages you, share
-
it with another driver or friend. Let's get the gospel
-
moving down every back road an interstate in this country.
-
Next time, in Matthew five, we'll start on the Sermon
-
on the Mount, some of the most famous words Jesus
-
ever spoke. If you want one to miss it, go
-
ahead and read the chapter ahead of time, and we'll
-
talk about it next week. Until then, keep the rubber's
-
side down, your eyes on the road, and your art.
-
You're your heart tuned to heaven.
