  1. Welcome to the Illuminate Church podcast.

  2. We hope today's message is encouraging to you.

  3. In this series Unrest, we're talking talking about honoring

  4. the Sabbath. As I will mention again later in

  5. this message, the Lord said honor the Sabbath and keep it

  6. holy. A day set apart, 24 hour period

  7. of time where we seek to commune with God.

  8. And as I said last week, this is just training ground that you

  9. might do this all the days, not just one day.

  10. But we cease from our regular work, which you can't do if you

  11. have a job on all the other days, but you can still commune

  12. with God on the other days. We cease from our regular work

  13. for 124 hour period of time. We commune with God, we

  14. appreciate His goodness, we appreciate the people He's put

  15. in our lives, and we just recognize His glory.

  16. We recognize how much we have to be thankful for in dedicating

  17. this day to the Lord. Fun fact for you, Sabbath is a

  18. noun. But occasionally I might text

  19. somebody and say, are you Sabbath thing and make it a verb

  20. and auto correct changes Sabbath thing to sunbathing.

  21. Are you sunbathing? Like are you peeping like what's

  22. going on here? Right?

  23. No, but think about it this way. If you don't mind a little

  24. pastor cheesiness, isn't sunbathing what Sabathine is to

  25. bathe in the sun of God. Can you handle some cheesy

  26. pastorness? Is that OK?

  27. So are you sunbathing everybody who's sunbathing raised?

  28. No, don't. God is trying to use autocorrect

  29. to correct us automatically that if we would Sabbath, there might

  30. be some correction. Helpful life giving correct

  31. correction that happens to us. Today's message is called the

  32. death of Chicken Little. If you're not familiar with

  33. Chicken Little, Chicken Little is always exasperated because

  34. the sky is falling, the sky is falling, the sky is falling.

  35. Almost like the boy that cried wolf, always worried, tense,

  36. afraid something terrible is about to happen.

  37. And if we will apply what the word of God has for us today, I

  38. believe that we can put to death the spirit of exasperation.

  39. And to take it a step further, the spirit of fear put it to

  40. death by applying the word of God in our lives.

  41. If you're ready, say I'm ready. Don't answer out loud, but are

  42. you a fighter or a flighter Fight or flight, Remember these

  43. two. I want to candidly confess

  44. before you. Unfortunately, I am a flighter.

  45. I want to be a fighter. But throughout my life, for

  46. whatever reason, and I've shared many, many stories from this

  47. platform. Once I was a kid, we had a

  48. garage sale, this giant box of money.

  49. We made all this money and the wind blew the box and all the

  50. money went flying down the street.

  51. I can still see it. We were living in Fort

  52. Leavenworth, Texas. My dad was there at command

  53. General Staff College, and I went running the other way.

  54. Like all the money's going away. Like, well, go run and catch it.

  55. Well you anyway, last week I told you that the second time my

  56. brother broke his arm. And the first time my brother

  57. broke his arm. I ran both times.

  58. One time my younger brother was also skating with roller skates

  59. around a swimming pool and he skated into the pool and those

  60. lead weights took him down to the bottom of the pool and I

  61. went running the other direction.

  62. One time I was pulling out of my driveway in my car, I've told

  63. you the story. And I backed into a bam, ran

  64. into something. It was a truck that my dad had

  65. borrowed. And instead of walking in the

  66. house to tell him, I ran the other way.

  67. I am a flighter. Get over it.

  68. Fighting and fighting are both responses to fierce stimuli.

  69. I'm going to use a word that may trigger you, but the word is

  70. trigger. When we get triggered, we want

  71. to fight or we want to flight. We want to say catch me outside.

  72. How about that? Or we want to say catch me if

  73. you can and run away. Both fighting and fighting are

  74. exhausting and in general don't bring about actual solutions.

  75. And in general, both are not restful fighting and fighting.

  76. So we need to rethink fight or flight to put to death.

  77. Chicken Little, if you have a Bible, open it up to Isaiah

    Isaiah 30 chapter mention

  78. chapter 30. If you need a Bible, raise your

  79. hand and 1:00 will be brought to you that you can keep or you can

  80. return or hope you keep it. Isaiah chapter 30, if you're

    Isaiah 30 chapter mention

  81. looking for Isaiah, just go kind of to the middle and flip a

  82. little bit to the right. You're going to run into the

  83. prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah prophet.

  84. If you're brand new to church, just being somebody on earth

  85. who's been given a message from God specifically for the nation,

  86. it's usually a word of rebuke, usually like it is today.

  87. Isaiah chapter 30, if you're ready to say yes, verse 15,

    Isaiah 30 chapter mention

  88. you'll see Isaiah starts with the words that declare that he's

  89. a prophet. This is what the sovereign Lord,

  90. the Holy One of Israel says. I'm now speaking on behalf of

  91. God. Listen to these beautiful offers

  92. in repentance and rest is your salvation in quietness and trust

  93. is your strength. And here comes the human

  94. condition. But you would have none of it.

  95. You said no, we will flee on horses, therefore you will flee.

  96. You said we will ride on swift horses.

  97. Look at these last 6 words. Therefore your pursuers will be

  98. swift. Do you see what God's saying

  99. here? He's saying you say you're going

  100. to run, so that's exactly what you're going to do.

  101. And I want you to know when you start running, your pursuers are

  102. going to run too. You cannot outrun the problems

  103. that you think you can outrun, saith the Lord.

  104. How exciting. Running is not really an option.

  105. Running just delays and eventuality.

  106. Running is sticking her head in the sand, putting our fingers in

  107. her ears and blah blah, blah. You know that that that thing

  108. God offers us a different option.

  109. Instead of fight or flight, He gives us run or rest right here

  110. in Isaiah chapter 30. You can flee or in repentance

    Isaiah 30 chapter mention

  111. and rest is your salvation and quietness and trust is your

  112. strength. Do you want to trust God or do

  113. you want to flee? Today?

  114. Let's begin retraining ourselves.

  115. We were doing a family devotion just the other night, and one of

  116. the words that was in it was a recorded devotion we were

  117. listening to was neuroplasticity.

  118. You want to say it? Try it.

  119. Neuroplasticity. Did you know that your brains

  120. can be reformed physiologically? So whatever's going on now

  121. doesn't have to go on forever. And when the enemy says it's

  122. just never going to get better, that's a lie.

  123. Because physiologically you can absolutely change.

  124. And I'm believing God that if we will apply the principles of

  125. Sabbath, we can retrain our brains to run from fight and

  126. flight and into rest. What if instead of fighting, we

  127. rested in God, trusted in God? What if instead of running away,

  128. we rested in the arms of the Father?

  129. Doesn't that sound more beneficial?

  130. Actually has a hope of working out, resting in God.

  131. Psalm 112. You don't have to turn there.

  132. Let me just read verse one to you it says, praise the Lord.

  133. Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in

  134. His commands to the extent that you obeyed them.

  135. I love this command so much that I'm obeying it, and bless are

  136. you when you obeyed his commands.

  137. Pop quiz Hotshot, what is command #4?

  138. Let me ask this side of the room, because this side don't

  139. hear. Don't mountain.

  140. What is command #4? There you go.

  141. What's command #4? The Lord says if we delight in

  142. His commands, we will be blessed, and one of His commands

  143. #4 is the Sabbath. Better way maybe to think of

  144. Sabbath is you get a rest day with God every week.

  145. It's a command of God. Verse 6, Psalm 112.

  146. Surely the righteous will never be shaken.

  147. They will be remembered forever. They will have No Fear of bad

  148. news. Their hearts are steadfast,

  149. trusted in the Lord. Their hearts are secure.

  150. They will have No Fear. In the end.

  151. They will look in triumph on their foes.

  152. When you read in the Bible with the devil meant to harm the

  153. Lord, used for good, that's what we're reading right here.

  154. The foe comes to you, seeking to defeat you and to devour you,

  155. and in the end you, through the power of the Lord God, are

  156. triumphing on your foes. When the car breaks down and

  157. wants to make you get angry, you triumph over that.

  158. When the diagnosis comes, you triumph over it.

  159. When the job change comes, when the relationship dysfunction

  160. starts to raise its head, you triumph on those.

  161. When we follow the commands of God and one of His commands is

  162. to rest. What I'm trying to say is that

  163. the sky doesn't fall on those who properly rest the death of

  164. Chicken Little. They will have No Fear of bad

  165. news. It doesn't say they won't have

  166. bad news. Jesus said John chapter 16, you

    John 16 chapter mention

  167. will have trouble. It's going to come.

  168. The difference is those who obey the Lord, including rest, and

  169. those who don't will have different responses.

  170. Those who don't follow the Lord tend to give over to fight or

  171. flight, and those who follow Lord tend to give over to rest.

  172. If you missed week 1, I told the story of my panic attack at

  173. 35,000 feet in an airplane. My entire body, my entire soul

  174. and spirit didn't feel like the sky was falling.

  175. It felt like I was falling out of the sky, right?

  176. And so I have this panic attack. But really the issue, as I said

  177. in week 1 was accumulated stress.

  178. You can imagine your soul as a backpack.

  179. And in that backpack is all the stress of life, decisions to be

  180. made, bills to be paid, people to please all these things got

  181. your stuffing it in their timelines, deadlines.

  182. All of this is in there week after week after week.

  183. Just stuffing it in there, stuffing it in there.

  184. And I had accumulated all of the stress of the my backpack took

  185. me out in a panic attack and I experienced years of anxiety as

  186. a result. What the Lord taught me in that

  187. season is if you had been Sabbath thing resting with me,

  188. then what you would have found is every Sabbath I would have

  189. been your backpack unloader. Little by little.

  190. Let's process this. Let's put this in right

  191. perspective. Let me move this out of your

  192. heart and as he makes room there in that backpack, then he adds

  193. other things, Kingdom things there.

  194. What an exchange. What a swap meet.

  195. You bring your stress, He takes it and in place gives you the

  196. things of heaven. What things?

  197. Stay tuned. That's at the end of the message

  198. today because he does like to pack the backpack with heavenly

  199. things. I wrote this sentence a long

  200. time ago to try to help me understand where Jesus said in

  201. this world you will have troubles, but take heart.

  202. I overcome the world and this is what I wrote.

  203. God didn't promise our lives would be void of trouble.

  204. He promised us that when troubles come we won't be void

  205. of life. You understand.

  206. And I wrote that before I went through my season of anxiety and

  207. healing from it because of the Lord's goodness.

  208. This sentence. God didn't promise our lives

  209. would be void of trouble. He promised us that when

  210. troubles come we would be void of life.

  211. And then through the season, I added these 3 words.

  212. If we rest, when we rest, He helps us to overcome the stress

  213. in the world. Last week I showed you that

  214. science is revealing, discovering what God has already

  215. said. If you were here last week, you

  216. might remember I said that science tells us we need 52 days

  217. a year to rest. And God, what do you know, has

  218. given us 52 Sabbaths a year. Coincidence.

  219. I think not. Today I want to show you some

  220. more, if you're willing. Are you willing say yes?

  221. Now you got to put on your big brains for this next little

  222. section. It's going to kind of feel like

  223. a science class, but it's all pointing back to what God has

  224. done for us to the Sabbath rest. I want today to introduce you to

  225. your second brain. You may not have known you have

  226. a second brain, but you do. The first brain we're going to

  227. call brain, and it's just what you think brain is, all the

  228. actions and now all that stuff going on in there.

  229. Great. That's yours.

  230. That's your first brain. The second brain, I'm taking

  231. this term from a book called REST.

  232. It's written by Alex SU Jung and Kim Pang.

  233. It's a secular book. It's not has nothing to do with

  234. the Lord. They just studied, researched,

  235. scienced up rest, and they call this second brain the default

  236. mode network. Default mode, You heard that

  237. like factory settings set up at the default mode, right?

  238. Let me get everything cleaned up and right.

  239. Are you starting to see how maybe this part of the brain

  240. works for you? The default mode network is the

  241. resting brain that actually doesn't rest.

  242. It's different parts of your brain that I'll show you here in

  243. just a little bit, but it's very busy, this default mode network

  244. when you shut off your brain. And most of us rarely engage the

  245. default mode network because we rarely rest.

  246. And so this whole part of your brain lays dormant and it's

  247. essential to our survival, and it's why God put it there in our

  248. brain. Brain, second brain.

  249. Anyone here ever taken differential equations?

  250. Yep, Yep. Remember these people because

  251. they're smarter than you. I'm just kidding, maybe they

  252. are. I took Differential Equations 1

  253. and Differential Equations 2 at the University of Florida.

  254. If you're not sure what Diffie Q looks like, it looks like this.

  255. That gives me hives just looking at it.

  256. I don't know about you. I get the heebie jeebies.

  257. It was after the completion of Differential Equations 2 that

  258. the Lord said to me, what do you think about being a pastor?

  259. Instead I said good idea, this engineering stuff is for

  260. somebody else in Jesus name they can have it.

  261. Yep. I departed quickly from Diffie Q

  262. and that was that was the end of my engineering career.

  263. Hallelujah, God is good. Where was I?

  264. Oh, differential equations. So what these scientists did was

  265. they took all these nodes, these sensors, they put them all over

  266. the brain and then they had people do these high level math

  267. equations, specifically differential equations, and

  268. they're working them working them.

  269. And what they saw is these brains came to life like just

  270. humming. They they had lights that light

  271. up and just these parts of the brain are just working like big

  272. time to work these math problems.

  273. Then they took the same people said lay on the bed and don't do

  274. anything and lay there for a long time.

  275. And what they expected to see was the brain would go and go

  276. lights out completely, nothing happening.

  277. And instead, as this centers are, these other sections went,

  278. these other parts of the brain went and they came to life and

  279. then they were humming while the people or resting.

  280. I can show you where the default mode network is located.

  281. It's up there in the front. It's there.

  282. That other thing called the posterior cingulate cortex,

  283. whatever that is back over here, the medial perfrontal cortex,

  284. the all these sections of the brain that were quiet during

  285. Diffie Q all the sudden went boom and came to life while the

  286. people were resting. And this is where your default

  287. mode network is. The default mode network is

  288. nearly as energized as a brain solving high level math

  289. equations. What am I trying to tell you?

  290. What does it mean? While you are resting, you are

  291. still working. And some of you need to hear

  292. that in here because you think of resting as a waste of time,

  293. because you're a maximizer, achiever, workaholic.

  294. Some of you need to hear that you are still getting stuff done

  295. while resting. You are doing something and that

  296. something happens to be nothing. While you're doing nothing,

  297. something is happening. The default mode network, this

  298. area of the brain is where greater creativity comes from.

  299. The default mode network is where you get your emotional

  300. judgment from. This is where sanity comes from.

  301. Solutions arise. If you want these things to be

  302. strong in your life, then you need to have the default mode

  303. network turned on. And you know how to do that,

  304. don't you? Rest.

  305. Look at it this way. Rest.

  306. This is funny way to say it is the exercise your default mode

  307. network needs to produce greater effectiveness relationally,

  308. spiritually, emotionally. If you feel out of sorts all the

  309. time, stressed all the time, I would endeavor to say that you

  310. may not be activating the default mode network very often,

  311. if at all. They have this other term called

  312. mind wandering. Mind wandering is where you have

  313. a certain perspective, but then the default mode network takes

  314. over and it begins to look at a problem from different angles.

  315. It wanders while you're awake. You're setting your ways.

  316. You got what you got right? But when you're resting, the

  317. brain kind of shuts down and the other part wakes up and it

  318. starts to look at things from another direction.

  319. Have you ever heard anyone say, or you say yourself, let me

  320. sleep on it? Anyone.

  321. Come on, people talk to me. Yep.

  322. What we're saying there is that somehow we've learned that if I

  323. sleep on it, I do have a better perspective in the morning.

  324. We don't know the science behind it until now.

  325. The science is that when you're sleeping, your default mode

  326. network goes on and your mind begins to wander and look for

  327. solutions that you can't find when you're awake or when you're

  328. not resting and you wake up in the morning.

  329. Like, you know what? I got a renewed idea about this.

  330. You ever get great ideas in the shower?

  331. You know why they find that the brain goes into default mode

  332. network in the shower? Because in the shower, you got

  333. no responsibilities except to wash your hair, right or not.

  334. Jason, Sorry, you laughed. I wasn't saying anything.

  335. And your mind begins to wander. Sometimes on a long drive, the

  336. white dotted line just going by you're in your mind just wanders

  337. because you're not having to concentrate on anything.

  338. When you get these great ideas, when you get that great idea,

  339. that solution, that Eureka moment, science calls it a word.

  340. It calls it illumination. How about that?

  341. OK, I, I find it great. That's fun.

  342. Only only me. OK, good.

  343. All of this greatness happens if you activate the default mode

  344. network, which only happens with rest.

  345. And wouldn't you know it, God commanded us to rest.

  346. Maybe God knows that I put this part of your brain in there to

  347. help you, and that's accessed only when you rest.

  348. Science is proving what God has said.

  349. Do you want more? I got one more.

  350. Anybody want more? All this points back to

  351. Scripture, like we're talking a lot about Physiology, What about

  352. Jesus? Like it all fits together.

  353. You have an autonomic nervous system.

  354. Maybe you remember this from Physiology classes way back

  355. when, science classes, or maybe you're learning it right now in

  356. school. The autonomic nervous system is

  357. that part of our body that does stuff without us thinking about

  358. it. It's just busy doing his job.

  359. There's three parts to it. The first part is a circulatory,

  360. respiratory part. You didn't know that you're

  361. breathing until I'm making you aware right now that you've been

  362. breathing this whole time. Or at least I think you have.

  363. I'm pretty sure you have. And now that you're thinking of

  364. it, you're aware that my lungs are going in and out and in and

  365. out, and the air is passing through and they're like, I'm

  366. breathing. Yes, but you weren't thinking

  367. about it before then. Your heart is sending that

  368. oxygenated blood all around your body to give life to your cells

  369. and everything else that blood does.

  370. And that's happening. You're not thinking beep, beep,

  371. beep, beep, beep. It's all autonomic, which always

  372. drove me nuts. Like, can we just say automatic?

  373. What's this? Autonomics.

  374. OK, whatever. The other parts are the

  375. sympathetic and the parasympathetic.

  376. These are parts of the autonomic nervous system.

  377. The sympathetic and the parasympathetic are the parts of

  378. your brain that regulate fight and flight.

  379. The sympathetic is the accelerator, right?

  380. The sympathetic is what helps you run from the bear.

  381. It's defcon one. It's wartime.

  382. It's time to fight or to run high alert.

  383. The parasympathetic is the break.

  384. The parasympathetic slows us down, tells us we're safe.

  385. We move from DEFCON one to DEFCON 5.

  386. This is peacetime. The parasympathetic.

  387. Now, everybody lean in just a little bit, pay attention here.

  388. I would say that there are some people in this room, maybe a

  389. majority of people in this room who, because of life

  390. circumstances, trauma, you name it, live with the sympathetic

  391. switch always on. And you've lived that way for so

  392. long you think it's normal. It's the air you breathe, the

  393. water you swim in. Always stressed accelerator

  394. mashed to the floor, always worried that something is about

  395. to happen. Tensed up, stressed out,

  396. switches on. I don't know if that's you.

  397. Science has said we have an answer for you to move from the

  398. sympathetic to the parasympathetic.

  399. Listen to their list. This is what research says.

  400. These aren't just ideas, but research has proven these things

  401. work. Number one, these are not in any

  402. order of importance. Spend time in nature.

  403. You ever go to the beach and just feel like, yeah, it's too

  404. hot here, let's go somewhere else, Practice meditation

  405. wherever. I heard that word before to

  406. meditate. Deep abdominal breathing.

  407. If you ever want to try relaxing and shove oxygen to your bane

  408. brain, reverse breathe. That means suck in your gut as

  409. you're breathing in and blow it out as you're breathing out.

  410. Shoves air up to your brain. Sympathetic to parasympathetic.

  411. Repetitive prayer, science says, helps us go from sympathetic to

  412. parasympathetic. How about this one?

  413. Focus on a word that is soothing.

  414. I got a suggestion. Focus on the word that is

  415. soothing. This one you might disagree

  416. with, but they say play with animals or children.

  417. You also might disagree with this one.

  418. Exercise, touch your toes. Progressive relaxation so you

  419. feel relaxed from the feet to the knees all the way up to the

  420. head, feeling each part unreleased, its tension, or the

  421. last one. Do something you enjoy like a

  422. favorite hobby. Now you all are brilliant

  423. people. I thought I'd get at least an

  424. Amen. So you know that what science is

  425. telling us is the same thing that God has been saying since

  426. the book of Genesis, which he codified that which means he

  427. made it forever law in both Exodus.

  428. Well, and he repeats it again that we get the the 20

  429. commandments, the 10 commandments twice.

  430. Fun for me to say, telling us to rest.

  431. And then he sent us on Jesus so that we could live from the

  432. place of his finished work and Sabbath, not just the 24 hour

  433. period where we're not working, but every day of our lives with

  434. him. Abraham Heschel is a Jewish

  435. rabbi. He wrote my favorite book on

  436. Sabbath, it's entitled Sabbath. It's a very old book.

  437. I highly recommend it. It's a short read, but it is a

  438. very rich read. He said Sabbath is the one day

  439. we don't master civilization, we surpass it, meaning that

  440. mastering civilization means that we become rat number one in

  441. the rat race. Woo, I am king rat.

  442. The problem is you're still a rat.

  443. And Sabbath helps us to live beyond the reality of Americana.

  444. We've talked about this in the series.

  445. Wake up, do your job, go to bed, rinse and repeat.

  446. Well, walking in the Sabbath brings you to this unhurried

  447. peace and pace with the Lord your God, walking in step with

  448. Him. We don't follow the beat, the

  449. pattern of the world, we follow the beat and pattern of our

  450. designer. Amen.

  451. How? Here's the last scripture.

  452. Oh no, I got 2. My bad.

  453. Isaiah chapter 58. If you're in 30, flip to your

    Isaiah 58 chapter mention

  454. right 28 chapters. Isaiah chapter 58.

    Isaiah 58 chapter mention

  455. The very first word is you're flipping there.

  456. That we're going to read in verse 13 says if and if there's

  457. an if. What follows later then?

  458. Is that what you said? Can I hear nothing?

  459. Really. Look at this verse 13.

  460. If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from

  461. doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a

  462. delight and the Lord's holy day honorable, and if you honor it

  463. by not going your own way and not doing as you please or

  464. speaking idle words, verse 14, then three things get packed

  465. into your backpack. Your soul.

  466. I told you they were coming. Here they are.

  467. You will find joy in the Lord. I will cause you to ride in

  468. triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the

  469. inheritance of your Father, Jacob.

  470. Three things that God is willing to exchange for your stress,

  471. your worry, your accumulation. Let me unpack those and pack you

  472. with #1 Joy. We've taught this year before,

  473. but if you haven't been around, joy doesn't mean happiness.

  474. Yay. Joy means I recognize grace and

  475. it follows with an emotion, and that emotion we call joy.

  476. But it really begins. And recognizing God has been

  477. better to me than I deserve. He sent his Son Jesus in the

  478. midst of my darkest places. He was there and I'm flipping

  479. the script. This isn't a dark moment.

  480. This is where God was graceful to me, and that thing that rises

  481. up in you as assurances of His promises and His presence, that

  482. is joy. And when you Sabbath, you're

  483. full of this joy. You get packed in with

  484. recognizing His grace. We talked about a week one.

  485. That Sabbath thing is less recuperation and more

  486. appreciation. We appreciate His grace and

  487. we're full of joy. Secondly, it says we will

  488. triumph on the heights. Heights, when you read it

  489. biblically, usually means one of two things, either influence or

  490. victory. And this says triumph on the

  491. heights. So it's not triumph on the

  492. victory. That's really triumph and

  493. influence, which means this you have an opportunity in your life

  494. to influence other people from your victory or from your wound.

  495. You lead with your wound, which means you have the victim

  496. mentality. Well, this happened and that

  497. happened. It's other people's problems and

  498. me, me, me, me, me, me, me, and I have a reason and excuse to

  499. behave the way I do. That's living influencing from

  500. the place of a wound. But those who Sabbath and spend

  501. time recognizing how good God is in connecting with Him, they

  502. lead from a place of victory. I will not lead from my wound.

  503. I will lead from the One who healed me.

  504. I will influence my words, my thoughts, my behaviors will be

  505. from a victorious place instead of a defeated place when I

  506. Sabbath according to Isaiah, who's speaking for God.

  507. And finally, it says that you will feast on the inheritance of

  508. Jacob. Jacob is one of the fathers of

  509. our faith, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  510. This is Jacob's inheritance. He was blessed to be a blessing.

  511. So when you feast on his inheritance, you become blessed

  512. to be a blessing, which means that God will pour out His

  513. abundance in you, whatever that looks like, so that you can be a

  514. blessing to others. And that happens when you

  515. Sabbath joy leading from victory, blessed to be a

  516. blessing. These are the things that the

  517. Lord God will put into your backpack, your soul, when you

  518. Sabbath. That's why Jesus said Mark

    Mark 2 chapter mention

  519. chapter 2. The Sabbath was made for man,

  520. not man for the Sabbath. Just as my 20 bucks in my wallet

  521. can't help Bill Gates's bank account, so any of my efforts

  522. cannot help the Sabbath. The Sabbath is about sowing and

  523. reaping. We don't sow The Kingdom of God

  524. sows into us, and then the world reaps A renewed temp, a renewed

  525. you. Praise God, showing you, showing

  526. who He is through you. I have a friend for many, many,

  527. many, many years who lived with a sympathetic switch on and he

  528. thought it was normal. And then he began to learn how

  529. to rest. And the most amazing thing that

  530. he tells me is men. I used to get up at night, just

  531. as everyone does, to use the restroom.

  532. Then when I would get back to bed, sleep was kind of not

  533. happening for a long time because my brain would.

  534. And now he sleeps all night long.

  535. So he learned to rest in his savior.

  536. His life is a living testament to me and to you.

  537. I wrote these down. Rest engages our default mode

  538. network. Rest moves us from sympathetic

  539. to parasympathetic. Rest moves us from fight or

  540. flight to peace. Rest moves us from a house built

  541. on sand to a house built on the rock.

  542. Rest moves us from shaking in our boots at the face of the

  543. enemies, instead looking at him and saying, who are you to defy

  544. the armies of the living God? This is what rest does, and it's

  545. not an invitation, it's a command.

  546. That's so much God loves you. Would you receive his rest?

  547. Would you bow your heads and pray with me?

  548. Jesus, you promised that your word never returns void.

  549. And we have spoken your words. We have heard your words.

  550. God, help us now to live your words to do the Word and become

  551. practitioners of rest. Lord, let it be said of the

  552. people of Illuminate Church. They are experts at resting.

  553. We declare your rest over every person here today and church.

  554. Maybe you're here today and you've never received Jesus as

  555. Savior. Let me tell you, there is no

  556. rest for the unsaved. That is not meant to be a fear

  557. tactic, it is just a confession of reality.

  558. There is no rest outside of the hope of Jesus Christ.

  559. Jesus went to the cross to die in our place so that we might

  560. have eternal peace starting the moment we declare Jesus is Lord

  561. and receive His invitation to salvation.

  562. That's you here today. Then make the good decision.

  563. Turn your heart by faith over to Jesus Christ.

  564. I'm going to have the whole church pray, and if that's you,

  565. pray along with them out loud through your mouth.

  566. Everybody saying this in Jesus name, Father, I come to you and

  567. confess that I am a Sinner in need of a Savior, and I believe

  568. and I confess that Jesus is the Lord and receive him today as my

  569. Savior. Thank you for forgiveness, thank

  570. you for the Spirit, and thank you for eternal peace.

  571. If you prayed that prayer just now for the very first time, you

  572. have just become a Christian, not because you've gone to

  573. church your whole life, but because you received His

  574. invitation personally as Savior. I'm going to ask you to do 1

  575. bold thing on the count of three in just a moment.

  576. I'm going to have you. If you've prayed that prayer for

  577. the first time today, raise your hand up as high as it will go.

  578. Just signifying I'm in. It's me on the count of 3123,

  579. hands going up before I can even count, praise you God.

  580. Yes Sir. I see you sisters.

  581. I see you, my sister, any others?

  582. I see you, my brother. Just hold your hand up for a

  583. second and an usher is going to bring something to you that's

  584. very important. It's why I'm having you hold

  585. your hand up, praise the Lord, thank you God.

  586. I want you to know that those that come early and those that

  587. come late get the same reward. Any others today?

  588. Thank you Lord for those who are being saved and thank you for

  589. hearing your church as we rejoice in Jesus name, Amen.

  590. Thanks for joining us today. We hope God is speaking to your

  591. heart through this message. If you'd like to connect with
