  1. Welcome to the Illuminate Church podcast.

  2. We hope today's message is encouraging to you.

  3. Today we're starting a brand new series that is intended to

  4. unfurl in you a part of God's design that may be laying

  5. dormant in you. It is a superpower that God has

  6. given you. When it's utilized, there is

  7. fulfillment unlike any other. You can't find it anywhere else.

  8. And not only that, you will produce repeatedly healthy fruit

  9. out of your life that you can't accomplish any other way except

  10. through this design that God has given you if you're utilizing

  11. it. On the flip side, much of the

  12. angst that you feel in your life could be might be because you

  13. aren't living as you were designed to live, specifically

  14. in this one area. This essential ingredients of

  15. your identity. If it's left untouched,

  16. unutilized on you're performing lots of UNS unfulfilled.

  17. It can leave you in one of the most dangerous, vulnerable

  18. positions that a human can be. It's called isolation.

  19. Good things typically don't happen when we're isolated.

  20. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he

  21. may devour. And it's easier for him to

  22. devour the one who is isolated. So let's turn to the Bible.

  23. Genesis chapter 1 is where we're going to be the very first book

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  24. in the Bible. If you need a Bible, raise your

  25. hand. Our ushers will bring you a

  26. Bible, Amazingly. Do we have Bibles?

  27. Yep. Oh, you're waving at me.

  28. Hi. Yeah.

  29. Bible. Bible.

  30. Bible, Bible. They're going to come to you as

  31. they're coming. Genesis chapter 1 is where we're

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  32. starting today. We're also going to be later in

  33. Genesis chapter 1. But if you want to put a

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  34. footnote in Galatians chapter 4, we'll end up there eventually

    Galatians 4 chapter mention

  35. with some pit stops in the way up in the mezzanine.

  36. We we need Bibles. I see you.

  37. We're coming. Thanks, Natasha.

  38. She's on it. 2 claps for Natasha.

  39. OK, that was poor. When I say 2 claps, it's just

  40. like this. See this guy's hands ready 2

  41. claps for Natasha. Just like that.

  42. Genesis chapter one, verse 26 is where we're starting.

  43. Lock in. We need Bibles down here in a

  44. very front row. We're coming for you, young man.

  45. Here he here he comes. Look, Javier is literally

  46. running for you. Or then will he?

  47. As soon as they said it, he stopped.

  48. There we go. Any others?

  49. Any others Allison weren't you in wasn't something wrong with

  50. one of your legs this week and here you are running in the name

  51. of Jesus healing Genesis chapter one verse 26 everyone ready?

  52. I like to wait till everyone you guys are waiting just waiting.

  53. I see you Eric waiting here we go then God said verse 26.

  54. Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that

  55. they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the

  56. sky, over the livestock and all, over all the wild animals and

  57. over all the creatures that move along the ground.

  58. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God.

  59. He created them, male and female.

  60. He created them. God blessed them and said to

  61. them, be fruitful and increase the number, fill the earth and

  62. subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea

  63. and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that

  64. moves on the ground. God says, I'm going to create

  65. humanity in a specific way in our image, the Imago day.

  66. The image of God being created in God's image means that you

  67. and I are God's walking, talking billboards on the earth.

  68. You and I are to reflect His goodness on the earth.

  69. We're to reflect His authority on the earth.

  70. We are together to reflect His character by the way that we

  71. live. He says you are created in our

  72. image. What's the image?

  73. Goddess Spirit, which you can't see.

  74. So how do we see the image of God?

  75. Look up earlier in Genesis chapter 1 and you will see in

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  76. the very first 3 verses of the entire Bible the image of God

  77. written out for us. Genesis chapter one verse one.

  78. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

  79. Now the earth was formless and empty.

  80. Darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God

  81. was hovering over the waters and God said let there be light and

  82. there was light. Right here the first 3 verses of

  83. the Bible we see the person of God, the Spirit of God and the

  84. word of God. John chapter 1 says the word

    John 1 chapter mention

  85. became flesh and dwell amongst us, meaning that the word is the

  86. Son of God. So here we have the person of

  87. God, the Spirit of God and the Son of God.

  88. To say it another way, we have Creator, we have presence, and

  89. we have agent, all three persons working together in one.

  90. Historically and theologically, this is called the Trinity.

  91. Everyone say Trinity. Yes, this is the image of God, a

  92. communal God, God existing eternally in community.

  93. Which leads me to the point of our entire series is putting the

  94. front right out here at the beginning.

  95. We are created for community by community dot dot dot, not

  96. written so that we will continue to make community and the

  97. community. This DNA identity that God has

  98. implanted on us is the superpower that He's given to

  99. all of us in His image that may be laying dormant in you.

  100. You don't yet fully understand or have engaged or grasped or

  101. benefited from the power of the image of God, the community of

  102. God in your life. In our image, he says, in our

  103. likeness. What is God like?

  104. He's like community. You and I were created in the

  105. image of community. And yet, if we were being

  106. honest, most of us tend to live isolated, insulated lives.

  107. It's risky to love people because they may hurt you.

  108. So better to stay in plasticky acquaintances at a distance,

  109. what Facebook calls friends. Let's be real, I have 2600

  110. friends on Facebook. I just looked.

  111. I couldn't name 50 of them probably.

  112. Maybe I could. I'm just kidding.

  113. It's ridiculous. We were at dinner the other

  114. night and Christine goes hey, look around the restaurant and I

  115. looked around and 100% of the people not at our table all look

  116. like this. Sitting together as family is

  117. right next to a loved one. I pray and they're like this

  118. tech neck. I couldn't believe it 100%, not

  119. like 1 table. It was 100% of the people in the

  120. restaurant like this isolated, segregated out from each other

  121. plastically. But we everybody, believer or

  122. not believer in Jesus, doesn't matter.

  123. We were made from community so that we may live in community.

  124. As soon as God made Adam, he looked down and like, well,

  125. that's not right. And then he created woman.

  126. And when he created woman, he created community right from the

  127. get go at the beginning, to understand what real community

  128. looks like, we need to, with our finite minds, try to grasp this

  129. relational, communal nature of God's existence in the Trinity.

  130. We're going to do our best to do this.

  131. But you understand, we're trying to describe the majestic,

  132. incomprehensible nature of God. This is how God exists.

  133. This is his nature, and this is the DNA that he's put on each of

  134. us. Three things.

  135. Because it's a Trinity. You know, we could do thousands

  136. probably, but number one, always belonging.

  137. Everyone say belonging. Yeah.

  138. In the Trinity, they belong to one another so that there is

  139. never, and I mean never, any loneliness.

  140. And when there's no loneliness, there's no resultant neediness

  141. that leads us into behaviors that we don't really like.

  142. Based out of my need to feel loved and accepted, I may do

  143. things that I don't really like. My dad was in the Army and we

  144. moved a bunch, but by the time I was 13, I had moved nine times,

  145. right? And so that's a lot of time

  146. showing up as the new kid. Oh, by myself, yeah.

  147. I started a little high when I was in 8th grade.

  148. I moved to Florida 198739 years ago, which is crazy because I'm

  149. only 35. I have premature grain in my

  150. beard. When we moved here, I moved into

  151. a neighborhood where all the dudes, and I mean like all the

  152. dudes my age were skaters. And I don't mean like ice

  153. skaters, like the national hockey team that just won gold.

  154. I'm talking about this kind of skateboard.

  155. You know what I'm talking about. And I was so lonely that I

  156. thought I I could care less about skateboarding.

  157. Not enthused by it. I don't like falling on the

  158. asphalt and skinning up my knees and my head.

  159. But because I'm lonely, I'm going to do something I don't

  160. like. So I went and bought a Billy

  161. Gruff deck. That's the wood.

  162. Got some grip tape, some trucks and wheels.

  163. I grew my hair down like this. I did skate or die.

  164. My hair is in my eye. And I don't know why you don't.

  165. You never heard this. Yeah.

  166. I became a skate rat not because I wanted to, but because I was

  167. lonely. And when you're lonely, you do

  168. things you don't like just to be accepted.

  169. Yours may not be skate rat. And maybe other things that you

  170. have done just to feel like you belong.

  171. Anybody. Don't raise your hands.

  172. But this is the opposite of what happens in the Trinity.

  173. In the Trinity, the Godhead exists with always a welcome to

  174. one another, always communicating between the three

  175. of them. You belong here, you are valued

  176. here. You are one of us, and we are

  177. one of you. Always belonging always occurs

  178. in the Trinity, and that's the DNA that you have #2 always

  179. honoring everyone. Say honoring to be honoring

  180. means that we're that the Godhead is always for each

  181. other. They practice the joy of mutual

  182. deference. You first.

  183. No, no, no, you first, no, no, you first, right?

  184. Just goes. They just defer to each other

  185. constantly. Philippians chapter 2 tells us

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  186. that the Father exalts the Son. John chapter 17 tells us that

    John 17 chapter mention

  187. the Son glorifies the Father. John chapter 16 tells us that

    John 16 chapter mention

  188. the Spirit glorifies both of them.

  189. Mutually deferring everyone in the Trinity is giving honor

  190. always. No one is under.

  191. No one is lesser in the Trinity because they're always honoring.

  192. There's not first class. And then coach, you know what

  193. I'm feeling? You ever get on the airplane and

  194. you're not in first class, which is me, always, And you have to

  195. walk through the shame of being a poor person.

  196. Hi, y'all, I'm going. I, I must be a lesser human

  197. being than you, because I'm going to go sit next to the

  198. toilet with the stewardess, right?

  199. In heaven, there's none of that because no one is less than

  200. anyone. Everybody is first class in the

  201. Trinity, everyone. And we're just talking about the

  202. Trinity. Everyone in the Trinity is equal

  203. to each other, perfect, honoring no one, lesser, always

  204. belonging, always honoring the last one, perfect unity in

  205. diversity. Each of the persons of the

  206. Godhead, all three of them, are glorious in their own way, but

  207. they're not threatened by the greatness of each other, right?

  208. There's no isms. As a result, when we compete

  209. against each other and look at our differences as reason to

  210. describe how we're different, instead of appreciating the

  211. difference, we get all of our isms.

  212. Racism, sexism, ageism, Republicanism, and Democratism

  213. In the Trinity, there's none of that because there's perfection

  214. in their unity despite the diversity.

  215. Instead of being competitive with each other, they appreciate

  216. each other. I'm wondering if you appreciate

  217. the people in the room who the world tells us we need to

  218. compete against. So this is the picture, small

  219. and in our finite thinking as we can, that describes how the

  220. Trinity exists, the nature of God always belonging, always

  221. honoring, always perfect in unity in the midst of their

  222. diversity. And it helps us understand first

    1 John 4:8

  223. John chapter 4, verse 8, which says God is love.

  224. This is not an emotion, but a state of God's being.

  225. This is how he exists because of belonging, because of honoring,

  226. because of this unity, it's always this love.

  227. And here's what happens, Community.

  228. And this kind of love begets, generates more community because

  229. of love. It's the overflow of the heart.

  230. I want to love more. I want to draw in more.

  231. I want more people to be involved in what it is that we

  232. are experiencing because I love. It's just it's not an emotion,

  233. it's who I am. And so from this community of

  234. Trinity, more community is made, specifically humanity, you and

  235. I, and the DNA is laid on you, created in His image.

  236. This is then how we are to be. 3 things that won't surprise you

  237. #1 we with the DNA of God in our community should always create a

  238. place of belonging. We in our community should

  239. always create a place of honoring.

  240. We in our community should always be perfect in unity,

  241. despite A myths right in the middle of our diversity.

  242. That's what community is for God in the Trinity and for us who

  243. bear His image, belonging, honoring unity amidst diversity.

  244. Romans chapter 12, verse 10. Be devoted to one another in

    Romans 12:10

  245. brotherly love. Check out this word.

  246. Outdo yourselves and honoring one another.

  247. You're not competing against the person next to you.

  248. You're competing against yourself.

  249. How'd I do today? Tomorrow I'm going to do better.

  250. I'm going to outdo what I did today and do it better tomorrow

  251. in the way that I love people and serve them and honor them

  252. above myself and draw them into unity.

  253. I'm going to do better tomorrow. I'll do better today.

  254. Why wait till tomorrow? Philippines chapter 2, verse

  255. three. Do nothing out of selfish and

  256. ambition or vain conceit. This means don't do nice things

  257. so that you look better. Rather, in humility, value

  258. others above yourselves. Let me ask you, did you take the

  259. best parking spot today? Did you hold the door?

  260. Did you open the umbrella? Let yourself get soaked?

  261. Do you even know the people sitting behind you or in front

  262. of you? Do you value them?

  263. Because God does. And something tells me if we

  264. understood Philippians chapter 2 verse 3 right, we would value

    Philippians 2:3

  265. the people sitting right next to us that we don't even know.

  266. It's how the Trinity operates. It's the DNA that's been placed

  267. on you and I right here and right now.

  268. Loving becomes a state of being. Love is not what we do, it's who

  269. we are. This is the DNA that we have.

  270. It may be laying dormant in you. That's the point of the series,

  271. to waken it up and unleash it on the world in Jesus name.

  272. The result? If we live out this way,

  273. community is God created out of community.

  274. Then he blessed humanity to go and do the same.

  275. And since we are like him, we will produce what God produces.

  276. And God produced community more and more community, he says be

  277. fruitful and increase in number. In other words, go make more

  278. community. Community replicate the image of

  279. God on the earth and the image is community.

  280. Have you heard that term community, community, community

  281. belonging, honoring, unified, though we are diverse.

  282. So let's take a little measurement today, shall we?

  283. Some introspection and ask ourselves, God is the standard

  284. in his trying nature. How do we as a church, how do

  285. you as an individual, how do the world around us, measure up to

  286. what he has given us as the standard, The Trinity,

  287. belonging, honoring, unified, though we are diverse.

  288. Originally, you probably know this, we were crushing community

  289. in the garden. In fact, community was so great

  290. it has a scripture. Brace yourself.

  291. Genesis chapter 2 verse 25. The man and the woman were in

    Genesis 2:25

  292. the garden naked and unashamed. Don't let your mind go to

  293. depravity here because naked in this sense has nothing to do

  294. with sexuality. Naked in the sense has I have

  295. nothing to hide, I am unashamed. Why are they like this in the

  296. garden? Let me tell you why.

  297. Because with God and with each other, they belonged.

  298. They were honored. With God and each other.

  299. They were in perfect unity, though they were diverse, male

  300. and female, a little bit different, a lot different.

  301. I heard a man say, Amen. I hope you're not sitting next

  302. to your wife. OK, just kidding.

  303. Yeah. And then something happened.

  304. For the first time in human history a human felt that they

  305. lacked something because the devil came and said you are

  306. lacking something. To God really say that you

  307. shouldn't eat from this tree which has good and evil.

  308. He has something you don't have and out of the need the lack

  309. humanity send and the results are devastating to community.

  310. Genesis chapter 3 verse 23. So the Lord God banished him,

    Genesis 3:23

  311. which is male and female from the Garden of Eden to work the

  312. ground from which he had been taken.

  313. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the

  314. Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and

  315. forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

  316. Sin then and sin now breaks community.

  317. That's what happens when we live outside of the design.

  318. When we live outside God's communal design, we end up

  319. living within the devil's playground.

  320. He's got us right where he wants us.

  321. When the breakdown of community happens because of sin, things

  322. like isolation happen, loneliness, or think of these

  323. words pride. That's a breakdown of community

  324. because pride says I don't need you, or self-sufficiency, which

  325. says I can do this on my own. This is the devil's playground.

  326. It speaks of isolation, anything short of community.

  327. Again, belonging and honoring and unity is living outside the

  328. design and it causes the community to break down.

  329. We just seen it in the garden biblically, but the entire Old

  330. Testament is rife with the stuff.

  331. The very first set of brothers, 1 kills the other, and on it

  332. goes throughout the Old Testament.

  333. Jacob and Esau, Joseph and his brothers, Moses and his

  334. siblings, David and his brothers.

  335. Then David's children's sin continually breaks down

  336. community. We recognize it in the Bible,

  337. but we probably also recognize it in our own lives.

  338. It's one of the greatest roots of all of our harms.

  339. You don't need to be a pastor. You don't need to be a licensed

  340. mental health counselor to know that many of our issues have

  341. resulted from relationship wounds.

  342. Don't raise your hand. Unless you're home watching

  343. online, then you can. Anyone here?

  344. Oops. Don't raise your hand.

  345. Father wounds. Father wounds are the result of

  346. community broken the image of God in US, broken mother wounds.

  347. I used to only say father wounds until some people came and say

  348. why do you always leave out the mothers?

  349. Rejection, divorce, These are the outflow of sin, which breaks

  350. down community. And because we have broken

  351. community, we have pain, and that leads us often to all sorts

  352. of misbehaving to medicate the pain, to make it go away.

  353. The constant breaking of community.

  354. What if God could and would restore the community to heal us

  355. as God does? God makes a way.

  356. Amen. Amen.

  357. The point of this series is to help all of us to live within

  358. God's communal design, His communal nature.

  359. It's how you were wired in the womb from birth.

  360. Fulfillment and healthy fruit arise from community.

  361. So let's figure out God's way to heal it #1 God creates a way to

  362. community. That's what He does.

  363. Pastor Kim's just talking about. He's the waymaker.

  364. I don't know what you do when you feel disconnected or

  365. isolated. Where does your mind go?

  366. Where's your heart go? What do you actually do?

  367. Is there something you can do? Sometimes we are isolated from

  368. others because of the actions of others.

  369. We have been the recipient of somebody's harm, abuse.

  370. They perpetrated something against you.

  371. And there's distance. And other times there's distance

  372. between US and other people because we ourselves are doing

  373. the wounding and pushing away with the way that we speak, the

  374. way that we behave. We shove people away, and this

  375. is what happens by shoving people away.

  376. We make the clouds and then later we complain that it's

  377. raining. I know that we do this to each

  378. other because we do this to Jesus.

  379. No one has loved us more perfectly or purely than Jesus.

  380. And we said to Jesus by our words and by our actions away

  381. from me. That's what sin communicates to

  382. Jesus. I don't want a part of you and

  383. your life so and we move away from community.

  384. So if it's true that God can restore us through to excuse me,

  385. is it his? What am I trying to say?

  386. Is it true that God can restore us to Jesus and relationship and

  387. take away our sins and certainly he can restore us to one

  388. another. If it's true and you and I know

  389. that it is true that God has made a way to restore us to the

  390. heavenly community. Look at Galatians chapter 4,

    Galatians 4 chapter mention

  391. this beautiful scripture, verse 4, Galatians 4.

  392. But when the right time came, and it has come, God sent his

  393. Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.

  394. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law,

  395. so that he could adopt us as his very own children.

  396. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his

  397. Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out ABBA Father.

  398. Now look at verse 7. I hope that you know that if

  399. you're a believer in Jesus, this exchange has happened for you

  400. and you are no longer a slave, but now you are God's own child.

  401. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.

  402. This isn't correct theology, it's not a 100% match, but I

  403. can't help but think of Little Orphan Annie and she's make

  404. believe but you know that she represents many who live outside

  405. of community. The orphan spirit.

  406. I'm unlovable, I haven't been loved, I'm over here alone.

  407. And Daddy Warbucks is a horrible representation of the Lord our

  408. God because at first he can't stand the girl right?

  409. But his heart warms up to her, and she moves from living in the

  410. orphanage to living in the Father's house with extreme

  411. wealth. Now, God, I don't think is

  412. concerned as much about material riches as he is with the riches

  413. of heaven, which are grace and mercy and love.

  414. And we go from being under the law, condemned to death, and

  415. through faith in Jesus, restored to God, where the riches of

  416. heaven are at our fingertips. We're heirs to the throne of

  417. God. Just meditate on that one

  418. morning. What?

  419. What does that mean for you? And if God has done this for us

  420. in the greatest relationship that between US and him, can He

  421. also restore relationship between humans?

  422. Can't He also restore relationship between humans?

  423. Anybody believe with me? Yes.

  424. So he creates a way to community.

  425. And secondly, in tandem, it's almost the same thing.

  426. He places the lonely in community.

  427. One of the most beautiful scriptures in all the Bible,

  428. Psalm 68 verse 6 says that God sets the lonely in families

    Psalms 68:6

  429. those especially in biblical days, and you'll hear about this

  430. in the upcoming weeks. Family mattered so much.

  431. And then sometimes people would lose their family, death,

  432. disease, abandonment, whatever, and they're all by themselves.

  433. And God through his mercy would say, I'm putting you in a family

  434. where there's shelter, where there's support, where there's

  435. belonging, honoring and unity. Even though each part of the

  436. family is diverse. Don't think of just biological

  437. family. For us, Ingram's a few months

  438. ago, way back in the like 2025, I don't remember when, it might

  439. have been September, October, I don't remember.

  440. But one Sabbath morning, which for us is Saturday in our house,

  441. which is usually this joy filled daytime of rest, kick back,

  442. relax, read the scriptures, just enliven each other with the

  443. Spirit of God, good food, watch some sports.

  444. I mean, it's such a great day. But this particular Saturday,

  445. Kristen and I both woke up feeling a little, a lot

  446. depleted. Relationally, we were great.

  447. Wasn't a marriage issue, but man, just like so much hard

  448. things happening, we experience loss, we experience some

  449. frustrate. All this stuff is going on.

  450. And you know, sometimes in a relationship, somebody's up and

  451. the others down and then they pull you up and then the other

  452. and then it goes like this, you know, back and forth it goes.

  453. You know what I'm talking about? What happens when you're both

  454. like this? Then what do you do?

  455. I got nothing to give you and you got nothing to give me.

  456. Then suddenly some friends are at the door.

  457. They come into our house and they listen to our hearts and

  458. they covered us in prayer for hours.

  459. They sat with us and though we couldn't lift each other, these

  460. neighbors came and went like this.

  461. Now check it out. They don't have our same last

  462. name. We're Ingrams.

  463. They're not. But they are 100% family.

  464. They are 100% community and things that can't happen when

  465. we're by ourselves can happen when we live in community.

  466. The strengthening, the growth, the shelter, the belonging.

  467. You were not meant to be isolated and lonely, but to be

  468. in community. Here's how to join the family.

  469. Here's how to get in community. I'm going to give you some three

  470. things. Number one, you got to engage

  471. the community. Everyone say engage.

  472. Yeah, I want you. I'm inviting you.

  473. I'm instructing you as the pastor of this church to begin

  474. or to join intentional relationships inside of this

  475. church family. Which means you're going to have

  476. to turn around or turn forward to the people around you that

  477. you don't know and be intentional about it.

  478. The book of Acts starts the beginning of the church and how

  479. it flourished. And the way that it flourished

  480. is because the biblical community from the very

  481. beginning was very intentional about community.

  482. Very intentional. Look at Acts chapter 2, verse

    Acts 2:42

  483. 42. They devoted themselves to the

  484. apostles, teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of

  485. bread and a prayer. Everyone was filled with all the

  486. many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.

  487. All the believers were together and had everything in common.

  488. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone

  489. who had need. Every day they continue to meet

  490. together in the temple courts that broke bread in their homes

  491. and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and

  492. enjoying the favor of all the people.

  493. Now look what happens because of their intentional community

  494. living as the DNA of God. The Lord added to their number

  495. daily those who are being saved. This is the ideal picture.

  496. This is the image of God on display beautifully through the

  497. people in the book of Acts in their community as they loved

  498. one another and served one another.

  499. The church grew, the Kingdom of God advanced.

  500. It's no wonder the devil is against community.

  501. It's no wonder the devil is trying to divide us, to burn

  502. bridges, to take my ball and go home.

  503. You know, I'm talking about I'm not playing with you anymore.

  504. We're done as friends. We're done as family.

  505. That's why the writer of Hebrews says.

  506. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love

  507. and good deeds, not giving up meeting together as some are in

  508. the habit of doing, but encouraging one another all the

  509. more as you see the day approaching.

  510. Intentionally engaging, refusing to sit back and not be a part of

  511. the community of the church. It's a famous story.

  512. Maybe you heard it before, but a man went over to, well, not a

  513. man. A pastor went over to a man's

  514. house who hadn't been at church in a while, knocks on the door

  515. and the man opens the door. They don't say anything to each

  516. other. They just kind of look at each

  517. other, like the man looking at the past is like, I know why

  518. you're here. Doesn't have to say a word.

  519. Invites him into his house with a hand gesture.

  520. No words are exchanged. They go and sit at these two

  521. seats that are right in front of the fireplace.

  522. And the fire has in it this burning orange, beautiful

  523. crackling fire. Can you see it?

  524. Can you see it? They don't say anything to each

  525. other. They sit there in the chairs and

  526. eventually the pastor stands up and he grabs the fire tongs or

  527. like this, it's go Gators just. And he reaches into the fire.

  528. The pastor does and he takes out one of the burning embers and he

  529. moves it over here to the side on the fireplace and sets it

  530. down. And then he sits down and he and

  531. the pastor, he and the other man look at this ember and of course

  532. they watch it. Burnout.

  533. It goes from bright burning ember to this charcoal Gray

  534. nothingness right in front of their eyes and they just sit

  535. there for a second. Then the pastor stands back up.

  536. He grabs the tongs, takes the ember and he places it back into

  537. the fire and sits back down. And almost instantaneously, this

  538. burnt out charcoal ember wood thing catches back the fire.

  539. It lights up orange. It starts crackling itself.

  540. Beautiful. Pastor stands up, heads to the

  541. door, gets to the door and turns around.

  542. And the man finally speaks. He says, Pastor, I understand

  543. the message. I'll see you at church on

  544. Sunday. Amen.

  545. Yeah. Anyone heard this before?

  546. I've heard this 1000 times. Yeah.

  547. Anyone else heard this before? Yeah, I heard it so many times

  548. and I thought, well, it's an interesting story, guys.

  549. Like, hey, when I was just praying, I was like, I, I want

  550. you to focus on something different in the story.

  551. People focus on the the fire and the the pastor and the man and

  552. what's being said. But he said have the people

  553. focus on the tongs this morning. I want you to consider what it

  554. is that caused you to disengage instead of the fire.

  555. That's what these tongs represent.

  556. Something has taken you from being in community to being out

  557. of community. Certainly this could represent

  558. another person that's wounded you and they've taken you out of

  559. community. You put up a wall.

  560. I'm not going to. I'm not going to engage anymore.

  561. I'm putting distance between us. I'm done with it.

  562. Or these tongs, maybe you, you're the one who's put up the

  563. wall and made the distance by your own actions.

  564. No matter what has taken you out, the same answer for what

  565. takes you in for both. Forgiveness.

  566. Forgiveness. You may need to forgive

  567. somebody, or you may need to ask somebody for forgiveness.

  568. I don't know why I'm pointing at you with fire.

  569. Toms goes down so nobody loses an eye.

  570. If we do not forgive each other, the Bible calls it a root of

  571. bitterness will grow and that root of bitterness will

  572. intertwine up into your spirit. It will impede the way that you

  573. think and see people because all you can see is the hurt, the

  574. bitterness, and you're like, I'm done, get out.

  575. No more forgiveness moves us from being isolated and alone

  576. back into the community where we burst back into flame.

  577. You have to engage the community.

  578. They say there's three kinds of people that go to a movie

  579. theater. When you go as a group, I don't

  580. know if you've ever heard this before, when you go as a group,

  581. you'll notice that one person will run down in front and sit

  582. in a row and then just wait and see who's going to come and sit

  583. next to him. Because they're thinking to

  584. themselves, I'm going to run up the front and sit down and see

  585. if I matter enough to anyone else to come and sit with me.

  586. And they wait and everyone sits 3 rows back.

  587. They're like, nobody likes me. Then you have the other people

  588. who come into the theater who aren't thinking about anything.

  589. They, they're just, well, I'm here to see a movie and they

  590. just sit down wherever. They don't care about who they

  591. sit next to and why it matters. And then you have the third

  592. person who walks in, typically last, and they're looking, is

  593. anybody alone in my group? I'm not talking about you're

  594. there to date somebody like, oh, she's by herself.

  595. I'll go sit with her, right? You're in a group, right?

  596. Everyone goes in and you're like, OK, who can I sit next to

  597. to make them feel included, loved, seen?

  598. Let me ask you, of these three kinds of people, which one is

  599. Jesus? The third one, this is the DNA

  600. of God placed on us, and most people are going through life

  601. and vividly, ignorantly, I don't know what's going on.

  602. I'm not paying attention to the mission.

  603. I'm not looking about who's hurting.

  604. I'm just sitting down to watch my life.

  605. And then there's others who are sitting down.

  606. Does anybody love me? But Jesus would be in the seat

  607. of I'm going to make sure that everybody here feels loved.

  608. That goes to the second point, which is to create community.

  609. Create community to place the lonely in your family.

  610. If God places lonely people in families and He's put His DNA in

  611. US and it is up to us, it's on our spirit to also then place

  612. the lonely in families. Stick around in the series.

  613. We're going to teach you how to do that.

  614. I hope you will. But for now, reach out to

  615. someone who feels isolated or alone and invite them in.

  616. That's what we see in the book of Acts, the sharing of life.

  617. The invitation to the community causes the Kingdom to grow.

  618. It worked then and it still works today.

  619. Let me show you how. I got some friends that I

  620. invited to come up on platform. You know who you are.

  621. And if you're here, come up right now and come quick.

  622. Here they are. Come on.

  623. Would you just give these people a round of applause?

  624. Let's go. Let's go.

  625. Here they come. Come on.

  626. Terrell here running. Well, they're taking wash.

  627. They're going to have to cough some more.

  628. Hey, stand a little closer. Stand closer this time.

  629. Leslie, make sure they're all up here.

  630. Come on. I'm going to tell you the story

  631. as quick as I can. And it's just an incredible

  632. story that's happening right here in front of our eyes.

  633. This is William and Chanel. Wait.

  634. Chanel's hiding. William and Chanel wait.

  635. Everyone say hi. They have three kids.

  636. You can guess which one. This is Thea.

  637. James and William also there say hi.

  638. They're from Ireland. So you say, how do you say hi in

  639. Ireland? What about you?

  640. What about you? What about you?

  641. Right. They're living in Ireland.

  642. They realize that if we keep growing our kids up in Ireland,

  643. all they're going to know is Irish white kids.

  644. That's it. And that is not what the Kingdom

  645. of God looks like. And it grieved their hearts that

  646. they wouldn't know the full expanse of the Kingdom of God.

  647. I said we got to move somewhere where there's all sorts of

  648. nations gathered together and all the world comes to Orlando.

  649. So in their wisdom, what happened?

  650. Did you do a hidden Mickey? OK, so they moved here to

  651. Orlando last year just to understand the beauty and the

  652. diversity of God's creation. Incredible, right?

  653. So as it goes, they just happened to meet some people,

  654. some great people. James.

  655. Then all of a sudden in your heart, because of your parents

  656. upbringing, you have this evangelistic nature in you and

  657. what, what do you go about doing?

  658. Just kind of fill us in. Wait, wait till you hear his

  659. voice. Oh, it's so good.

  660. So basically I was just like out with my friends and we were all

  661. talking about like going to church the next day.

  662. And then Andrew, this guy right here, he was sitting and he

  663. wasn't talking. I was like, Andrew, do you go to

  664. church? He said no, there we go.

  665. He said no, he doesn't go to church.

  666. I invited him to church and I sent him the link to come to

  667. Illuminate and then he came and then he invited Terrell, then

  668. Terrell invited Kenneth, and then they all got baptized with

  669. the. This is so beautiful what God is

  670. doing now. Here's Terrell.

  671. We had a phone conversation this week.

  672. Andrew, thanks for inviting Terrell so that we could hear

  673. the story. Terrell, before Illuminate, was

  674. studying in the mosque, studying Islam then.

  675. But this guy was so brilliant and the Spirit of God was

  676. speaking to him even before he really knew God, that something

  677. in here is not right at the mosque.

  678. Something wasn't making sense connecting.

  679. So he left and went home and started praying in his room.

  680. And Terrell, with the mic up near your mouth, what happened?

  681. I was just sitting down in my dark room.

  682. I guess I was sitting down. I was like, let me just go into

  683. prayer. Let me go pray to Jesus and see

  684. where my heart was at. And I was sitting there.

  685. I was praying. I was like, you know, Lord,

  686. please, I, I don't know what I'm doing.

  687. And then, you know, I was praying.

  688. And then I finally opened my Bible that I got from a work, a

  689. coworker at work because I asked her and I was like, hey, do you

  690. got a Bible? And she was like, yeah, gave me

  691. the Bible. Next three days.

  692. The next three days I work again.

  693. She was on the schedule and she left and I feel like she was an

  694. Angel. I was.

  695. Definitely an Angel. And then there's a lot of people

  696. in here. And then I was like, I opened

  697. the Bible and I open up to Proverbs.

  698. The first, the first thing I opened up to that I was just

  699. open it. And I open up to Proverbs 35 and

  700. then say, do not trust on your own.

  701. Do not trust in your own understanding, but trust in the

  702. Lord passed in his direction. And that that meant something to

  703. me and that meant a lot to me. And I was like, Oh Lord, you got

  704. me. And he and I heard a voice in my

  705. head and and the Lord was like, Son, I got you and I was beyond

  706. blessed from there. And now I'm still on my journey

  707. and growing in a man of faith. Yeah, come on, Blessing.

  708. Can I can I can I can I pray over everybody because a.

  709. Little Let's go he's. On fire right now.

  710. He's on fire right now. All right.

  711. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for another day and thank you

  712. for another blessing. And today we don't know what is

  713. planned, but we know that you got great plans and great

  714. blessings for us, Lord. And I pray in Jesus name that we

  715. all submit to your direction in your path, Lord, in Jesus name,

  716. Amen. Come on.

  717. Hallelujah. OK.

  718. All right, I got it. I'm I'm not even done telling

  719. you the best part. Like in case you missed it, this

  720. is what happened last Sunday. Now look, the Matusa's here are

  721. part of our Life Step 2 leadership and they met the

  722. weights in Life Step 2 and formed community together living

  723. in the design of God, right? And through this whole process,

  724. the weights, the Medusa's getting to meet Kenneth on the

  725. end, Andrew here and Terrell who just prayed over us like brand

  726. new believer already praying. Step up your game is all I'm

  727. saying. Together, all of these people

  728. work together to see this incredible thing happened last

  729. Sunday. And this is what I'm trying to

  730. show you in the book of Acts, the book of Illuminate, right?

  731. When we do community, right, the Kingdom of God advances mightily

  732. on the earth. And check this out, right?

  733. Our world today says that this white man and this black man and

  734. this brown man, they're not supposed to be friends.

  735. Am I making this up? Isn't that?

  736. I mean, when I open social media, it tells me that I'm

  737. supposed to stay in my white lane and you're supposed to stay

  738. in your whatever lane and communing together.

  739. This is exactly what the enemy is trying to divide and exactly

  740. why we're doing this series so that we can come together as one

  741. Unity 1 Lord of all. Will you give a big half for all

  742. of them? Thank you guys.

  743. Bless you. Well done.

  744. I love that story. So good.

  745. Hey, James is 16 and he's invited people to church.

  746. What's your excuse? What?

  747. I love it. All right, last thing, join the

  748. forever family. Join the forever community.

  749. I'm asking you to engage. I'm asking you to create.

  750. I'm asking you to join the family.

  751. Some easy, simple steps are #1 get the Life Step 1 next week,

  752. March 1st. It's where community begins

  753. here. Life Step 2 follows after and

  754. you'll be in a group of people. When we were doing these

  755. baptisms last week, a bunch of them are from Life Step 2.

  756. And when those people went down in the waters their entire life

  757. step two groups around them cheering for them, strangers

  758. before they started, now sharing this incredibly special moment

  759. together. Get yourself the Life Step 1 #2

  764. single Monday, you can get resources downloaded to your

  766. to the design of God, the inmate imago day of God in your life.

  767. So jump in and jump in quick. Don't delay.

  768. The last thing is this men. I have seen strangers terrified

  769. to come to men's conference, but projecting an air of confidence,

  770. just really faking it, showing up to men's conference and

  771. lifelong friendships bonded over the blood of Christ sealed by

  772. the Holy Spirit come out of men's conference.

  773. The Lord wanted you here today to hear you.

  774. Men especially do not do this life alone.

  775. No more solo artists, right? We're meant to do life together.

  776. I'm inviting you in. And finally, the most important

  777. thing is as you recognize your need for commit community that

  778. you and me, all of us. It begins with a relationship

  779. with Jesus Christ, becoming a child of God in the household of

  780. faith where you will be welcomed, you will be honored

  781. and you have unity with the Father in this supremely

  782. wonderful, diverse household of faith people different than you.

  783. All you have to do is say yes, yes to the invitation and begin

  784. a life with Jesus Christ. So we're going to pray right now

  785. and give you the opportunity. Everyone bow your heads, close

  786. your eyes, repeat nice and loud after me at home.

  787. You can pray this as well online saying, father, come on a father

  788. in the name of Jesus. I recognize that I am a Sinner

  789. in need of a Savior, and today I confess and I believe that Jesus

  790. is Lord. I receive you Jesus as my

  791. Savior. Now come into my heart and live

  792. your life through me all the days of my life.

  793. Just take a little moment here between you and the Holy Spirit

  794. to pray. And if you just made that prayer

  795. for the first time, the biggest of congratulations to you.

  796. Welcome to the family. I'm going to have you do one

  797. thing that's bold. I'm going to count to 3.

  798. And if you've prayed that prayer for the first time today,

  799. receiving Jesus, you're going to raise your hand up as high as it

  800. can go when I count to 3. And I need you to do this

  801. because I have something I have to get you.

  802. I want to give it to you today before you leave.

  803. Hands are already going up, so let me count 123.

  804. Anyone believing today for the first time, hold it nice and

  805. high. Our ushers are moving quickly to

  806. you a bunch. Right up here.

  807. We got you in the mezzanine. Come on.

  808. In the middle back. We're coming to you as well.

  809. Any others over here? Come on.

  810. If you got somebody raising their hand next to you, we don't
