  1. Crossing family. If you're excited, be a church

  2. and you're thankful for Jesus, let me hear.

  3. Yep. Yep.

  4. Man. I love him.

  5. Tell you what, why do we live here?

  6. And I mean, this weather has just been such a blessing,

  7. hasn't it? Just so thankful.

  8. It's hard to. Well, I won't say that because

  9. I'll probably feel bad about it later.

  10. Anyhow, it's been cold. God bless, you all for

  11. surviving. You guys are survivors.

  12. Okay, what I want to do, And welcome all of you joining from

  13. all of our different locations. Those of you online inside

  14. thankful that we get the opportunity to partner together.

  15. And what we're going to do is we've been doing the same thing

  16. for the last couple of weeks, I'm ask you all to stand

  17. wherever you guys are joining from you guys.

  18. Stand up, we're going to pray for you in just a second and

  19. today we're going to pray over a very specific group of people.

  20. This might be one where it's tough for you to raise your

  21. hands. So don't you don't have to raise

  22. your hand yet. Okay, what I want to do today is

  23. I want to pray for those who have either experienced a little

  24. bit of failure, are in the midst of a little bit of failure.

  25. If you're a Green Bay fan, this will be really easy for you

  26. guys. You'll know exactly what I'm

  27. talking about. Oh, I was rooting for you.

  28. But boy, did we mess that game up?

  29. Okay, but all of us, we go through these periods and times

  30. in our lives where we just feel a little bit like we're failing.

  31. Perhaps it's in your marriage perhaps it's in your parenting,

  32. maybe it's in your finances maybe it's in some of your other

  33. relationships. Ships and maybe you aren't the

  34. person who's experiencing failure right now but you know,

  35. somebody who is in the throes of failure, okay?

  36. Before we jump into that, I want to give you three verses to kind

  37. of give you some context around failure, and then we're going to

  38. pray for you guys. The first one is Romans 3:23 for

    Romans 3:23

  39. everyone, has sinned. Everybody's failed, God has a

  40. perfect standard. Every single one of us have

  41. failed and come in below God's perfect standard.

  42. Every person has Add however God's grace covers our failures.

  43. Proverbs 24 verse 16 says for though, our though, the

    Proverbs 24:16

  44. righteous fall seven times. They rise again, some of you

  45. were going 7, seems a little conservative Clayton.

  46. I wish I had only failed seven times.

  47. I wish that the, I wish that that first said 9:00.

  48. And if you're a person like me, you're like, I wish that verse

  49. said, 9999 for 2022. Okay.

  50. And right now, you might be In the bottom of one of your

  51. failures but the righteous will rise.

  52. Again those who cling to the Lord and hope in the Lord will

  53. not stay there forever. They will rise again.

  54. Don't count yourself out. Don't count your situation as

  55. final because God has the power to help you rise and the power

  56. to help you rebuild. Listen to what the psalmist is

  57. Claire's are declares in Psalm chapter 40.

    Psalms 40 chapter mention

  58. I've waited patiently for the Lord, and he heard me.

  59. And he turned to me, he Lifted Me Out of the slimy, pit out of

  60. the mud and mire, he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm

  61. place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth.

  62. A hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the lord

  63. and put their trust in him. And there might be some of you

  64. right now that you are standing on the rock that he's placed you

  65. on. But there might be others of

  66. you, that, you still feel like you're in the pit and you've

  67. lost the ability to sing a new song.

  68. And I just want to pray for people that find themselves in

  69. that situation. Now I know it might be tough for

  70. you to raise your hand and say yeah I'm either in the throes of

  71. things. Not going the way I want them to

  72. go or I know people that are in the throes of things.

  73. Not going the way that they want them to but we want to pray for

  74. you nonetheless. So it all of our locations.

  75. If you're going. Yeah, I'm either.

  76. That spot or I know somebody who's in that spot.

  77. Would you put your hand up and we as a church as want to pray

  78. for you? I see a cut bunch of hands.

  79. God bless you for that if you're a Christian and you call this

  80. church home would you love on them real quick and come around

  81. them and pray for them if you're going?

  82. Yeah I don't want someone close to me because the covid we get

  83. that go ahead and put your hand down.

  84. Will pray for you anyway, from a distance.

  85. But if I want people to know that they're loved in this place

  86. that we care about them, we're thankful for them, okay?

  87. But you guys pray with me. Got a weird thankful that you

  88. can redeem any and every situation that nothing is over

  89. as long as you're in it, and God, I pray that people that are

  90. in the midst of the heartache and the pain and the suffering

  91. of failure. The god that you would bring you

  92. in your truth that you would bring in your strength and that

  93. you would surround them with God, the community.

  94. We love you so much. You know, I pray, amen.

  95. Would you guys? Go ahead and grab a seat and

  96. while you're doing that, I'm going to jump into the message.

  97. We're in a sermon series called there has to be a place week.

  98. One, there has to be a place for everyone and it's going to take

  99. every one of us to make that happen.

  100. And we took a look at this spiritual spectrum.

  101. And we realized that as a church, we have a spiritual

  102. obligation to everybody on this Continuum to those who are far

  103. from Jesus. And to those who've been

  104. following Jesus for A long time and then we recognize that as a

  105. church, we have a spiritual obligation to this entire region

  106. and whatever. God, grows it to be.

  107. And we want to make it the hardest place on planet Earth to

  108. get to Hell from that many years from now.

  109. Our kids and our grandkids and our great grandkids, grandkids

  110. will go. I was fortunate enough to be

  111. born in an area that had a church like this.

  112. And that we would be a church like that.

  113. That helps people find that relationship with Jesus.

  114. And then we talked about sometimes there has to be a

  115. place that gives people time. And I have never had a sermon

  116. quoted back at me so many times. I wish I hadn't have preached

  117. it. I'll be honest with you.

  118. I've heard like six people go. Well, Clayton it just takes

  119. time. I'm like yeah.

  120. Well Okay, I don't need to hear that anymore.

  121. Okay, just but it is. We all how many of you guys have

  122. been realizing the truth of that sometimes it just takes time.

  123. Yeah. Me too.

  124. Maybe that sermon was for me. Okay.

  125. And sometimes, as Christians, we can get frustrated because it

  126. takes more time than we want for people to grow in their

  127. relationship with Jesus. But we decided as a church that

  128. we are going to be a place that gives and loves and serves and

  129. cares, and prays for people to give them all the time that they

  130. need, because Jesus was patient with us.

  131. We are going to be patient with them and last week, we talked

  132. about there has to be a place for Water Walkers.

  133. A place for people to take their big Steps of Faith and that we,

  134. as a church, want to be there and root and celebrate for them

  135. as they take those Steps of Faith.

  136. But we acknowledge this truth that you can't cheer people on

  137. from the boat that we have to take our step of faith.

  138. And then is, as God is sustaining us in our faith walk,

  139. that were able to turn around and Inspire other people to

  140. take. There's today, Day.

  141. This is the title of my sermon. There has to be a place that

  142. tells people. It's not over.

  143. Would you turn your neighbor and say It's Not Over?

  144. If your marriage was in a tough spot, that was an interesting

  145. thing to turn to your spouse and say you're welcome.

  146. God bless. When I asked you guys, if you've

  147. been through things that are you failed.

  148. Just so you know, I've failed a ton.

  149. Okay, let me just take you through at least some of them.

  150. I'm not taking you through all of them because I don't know how

  151. much we love each other yet, but I'm just going to give you the

  152. ones that I'm comfortable with. I failed it.

  153. Starting at a knife making business.

  154. I bought a kiln and a And all on an anvil and all the stuff and

  155. by a show of fingers, how many knives did I make?

  156. Yeah, judging by the hands. You guys got it.

  157. Perfect. Yeah.

  158. Zero I made zero knives. I did.

  159. I did recover my, the cost on all the stuff I purchased.

  160. But, yeah, I was like, yeah, I think this will be awesome.

  161. It'll be a fun little hobby for me that because I went deep into

  162. a YouTube Trail on making knives and I was like, I think, I think

  163. this is me and I never even turned the Kiln on, I never did.

  164. I just like yeah. Okay.

  165. We'll get rid of it. I tried to launch a YouTube

  166. cooking channel that inspired husband's to be more helpful

  167. around the house and do devotions with their kids than

  168. I'm. Yep.

  169. That didn't do that. Tried my hand at designing

  170. clothing. And I've had a couple of

  171. horrible t-shirts, made on behalf of Jesus, and the

  172. crossing Holly was there for one of them.

  173. When I was in college Ministry at our Macomb location, I was

  174. getting ready to teach a sermon series on sex to a bunch of

  175. college kids. And I was like, you know what,

  176. I'll do, I'll make a shirt that kind of highlights what I'm

  177. going to be talking about for each of the weeks.

  178. And because I grew up with a little bit of Clint Eastwood and

  179. there's good bad and ugly kid. You not let me describe the

  180. shirt to you and you'll understand why I shouldn't do

  181. this on this side. It said the word X SE X in white

  182. letters. Nope, in red letters and then it

  183. said good, bad and ugly. And I thought it was a black

  184. shirt and I thought that people would just love that but then I

  185. realized that no people don't want to walk around a college

  186. campus with the shirt that says sex good, bad and ugly on it.

  187. And so you know those we lost money on those.

  188. Okay? We all did, God bless you for

  189. being? Yeah, if you bought the ZIP code

  190. shirt, that was another one of my dumb ideas and I apologize

  191. for that one. I failed at journaling.

  192. I've missed 75% of my New Year's resolutions.

  193. I fail still, I'm a failure at folding towels.

  194. Is the right way. For those of you who know, you

  195. know, God bless you. I I have failed multiple times

  196. at running a bead of caulk around the shower and I have

  197. holes in two different showers to prove that because after I

  198. tried to do it, and didn't work out, something came over me and

  199. then I well, I punched a hole in both of the showers, and now

  200. there is pink duct tape where I shower.

  201. So, this morning when I got ready, I look at pink duct tape

  202. from the last time I tried. Do any kind of that.

  203. And so I'm the guy who has to call people over Be like yeah,

  204. can you do the thing that everybody else can do?

  205. Because my wife is like, yeah, we can't afford to replace, you

  206. know, Clayton sighs fist holes everywhere.

  207. And so like, that's another thing I failed at there are lots

  208. of other ways that I've failed, but you get the idea.

  209. I am acquainted with failure and some of you are like me, and you

  210. think that failure is a great teacher.

  211. How many of you across all of our locations will go?

  212. Oh yeah. Failures are great teacher.

  213. Oh, yeah, 100%. And you'd be right.

  214. A quick look on your favorite internet.

  215. Search engine will. Show you that some of the most

  216. successful people on earth have also failed in extravagant ways

  217. that you learn from your mistakes and they'll talk about

  218. failing forward. How many of you guys have ever

  219. heard that catchy phrase? You got to learn how to fail

  220. forward, man. I love that kind of stuff.

  221. And in fact to be I can get a little nervous if I'm hanging

  222. out with somebody who's never failed.

  223. Because more than likely, they've never tried anything of

  224. significance. They've never, I would much

  225. rather be around a group of people who at least dare to try

  226. to do something then, never dare at all.

  227. Right? And you guys are going, okay.

  228. I get this. Well, the problem is, there is a

  229. big difference from experiencing failure.

  230. And feeling like one. And sometimes people experience

  231. a failure. And then they allow that

  232. experience to become their identity.

  233. And then they feel like a failure.

  234. And nothing is more devastating than when that happens to us

  235. spiritually. That we feel like we have failed

  236. or we are a failure when it comes to our faith.

  237. It might be people who had a marriage blow up or suffer from

  238. a deep depression or got caught up in a sin and more than

  239. likely, there's some people at all of our locations.

  240. I need you to listen to this message because there are people

  241. that need to hear this message that won't hear this message

  242. because they're not here anymore.

  243. Because spiritually, they failed.

  244. They blew up and they may not hear the message that I'm about

  245. to give you. And I'm asking you to listen to

  246. this message because you may have to preach it.

  247. You may have to sit across the table from somebody and tell

  248. them it's not over. That.

  249. What I need you to be able to tell them is that this is a

  250. church for them. This is a church for people who

  251. have messed up. This is a church for people who

  252. have failed, this is a church for people who are struggling

  253. this church. It has to have a theme that

  254. says, it's not over. What I've noticed is that Satan

  255. loves to pounce on people when they slip up and they fail and

  256. they make mistakes and then Satan, he does even more with

  257. those because he comes along side of them and goes.

  258. Well, you were trying to follow God but I guess you didn't hear

  259. him or you. Can't hear him or maybe he just

  260. doesn't care about you and he tries to get them to believe

  261. that they not only can they not hear God but that they're not

  262. even loved by God. And eventually these people,

  263. they may be stopped showing up at church all together.

  264. Maybe you watch them lead or serve or do ministry and

  265. spectacular ways or they used to sit next to you in life group or

  266. they used to sit next to you at church.

  267. But then some event happened in their life and then Satan used

  268. it to disconnect them from the church all together.

  269. Other. And what Satan does is he tries

  270. to whisper to them. Well, you can't come back

  271. because it'll be awkward, you can't go back because you won't

  272. be, welcome. You can't go back, it'll be

  273. weird. That's one of the dangerous

  274. things about how Satan Works through our failures is because

  275. he will try to isolate us in our failure.

  276. And what I've noticed and maybe you guys noticed this too, I've

  277. never seen anybody grow spiritually in the absence of

  278. community. but like the biggest Steps of Faith that I've taken

  279. in the people around me have taken have been because there's

  280. been a support system around them, to help them go through

  281. the highs and lows of life, but if Satan can get you isolated in

  282. an event, In a failure. And he can keep you from

  283. Community. You may never live the life that

  284. you were designed to live. That's why our online can be a

  285. bit of a blessing and a curse and online.

  286. I hope you're hearing this from a pastor who really loves you

  287. and cares for you online, can be an incredible thing when you're

  288. sick or you're traveling or you're homebound, however, it

  289. can be used by some of you to kind of stay up to speed with

  290. the church. But keep you disconnected from

  291. the community of the church. I don't want you to be careful

  292. because Satan can convince you that being online is good

  293. enough, but realizing that you're not going to grow the way

  294. God designed you to grow in the absence of a Spirit-filled

  295. community. And that is not just a church

  296. service, but that's other people being around you.

  297. Now, before I get into the meat of the sermon, there might be

  298. some of you right now. They're going man.

  299. I'm glad Clayton's preaching this because I know a lot of

  300. people who are bad, And there's always people.

  301. It doesn't matter what I preach that they hear something

  302. completely different. So, let me just, at least

  303. acknowledge a couple of things here on the front end that I

  304. don't want us to have a prideful Spirit as we listen to this

  305. message. So, I'm just going to give you

  306. three little warnings. First Corinthians chapter 10.

    1 Corinthians 10 chapter mention

  307. So if you think you're standing firm, be careful that you don't

  308. fall. Because Satan attacks is all

  309. you're actually going to see that in the story.

  310. I'm going to tell you later on in this message.

  311. Look what it says in Proverbs 16.

  312. You guys know this one probably goes Before Destruction, a

  313. haughty spirit before a fall. Paul warns us that this can

  314. happen. He says, this to the Galatians

  315. as his heart breaks for them. This is what he says.

  316. He goes, you are running a good race who cut in on you to keep

  317. you from obeying, the truth. What kind of persuasion are that

  318. kind of persuasion does not come from, the one who calls you a

  319. little yeast. Works through the whole batch of

  320. dough, Satan can take just a little bit of failure, just a

  321. little bit of time off just a little bit of time away and he

  322. can cut you off from running. What would have been a

  323. spectacular race? He can whisper just a few lies

  324. and use it to slow you down and then eventually take you out of

  325. the race completely. The story, I want to tell you

  326. starts on the very night that Jesus was betrayed, he is just

  327. finished eating with his disciples.

  328. He is talking to them about what is going to be happening to them

  329. and he tells his disciples, his twelve closest friends.

  330. You are all going to Desert me and this is what they have to

  331. say about this Peter declared you, remember Peter?

  332. Even if all fall away I will not remember.

  333. I just said, Pride goes before a fall for those, the two people

  334. that have you are Listen. God bless you.

  335. Okay. Truly I tell you, Jesus answered

  336. today. Yes, tonight, before the rooster

  337. crows twice, you yourself will disown me three times.

  338. But Peter insisted in fatica lie, even if I have to die with

  339. you, I will never disown you and all the others said the same.

  340. Then Jesus Is In The Garden of Gethsemane and he is arrested

  341. and Peter pulls out his sword and he takes a big swing and he

  342. cuts off the high priests servant's ear.

  343. The servants name was malchus. So Jesus is being arrested,

  344. Peter pulls out, his sword cuts off an ear, there's an ear

  345. laying on the ground. Check out how cool your Jesus

  346. is, he turns to Peter goes, nope, this is not how we are

  347. handling it. And then he reaches down any

  348. touches mouth kisses ear and he heals it in the middle of him,

  349. getting ready to go and die. He is paying attention to the

  350. Lost ear of a servant of the high priest who's causing

  351. everything to happen. Can you imagine being one of the

  352. guards, that's carrying Jesus, or that's arresting him?

  353. Let me put you in yourself as shoes.

  354. Oh, my God. What we want to get?

  355. We need more of these guys. This guy would be fantastic.

  356. My wife's needs been killing her.

  357. We got to keep him around. Can you imagine seeing that kind

  358. of raw power and here, just completely fixed?

  359. And that's the dude you've got to like walk Because he's been

  360. arrested, then look what happens.

  361. Now, when we get ready to read this, you're gonna we're gonna

  362. be reading in the Book of John and John never gives away his

  363. name, but we know that it's John and him and Peter kind of have

  364. this thing going back and forth. As the like, who's the coolest

  365. you guys will see this in the scriptures.

  366. Just let you know that like Jesus's disciples were real

  367. people just like you and me, have you guys ever had like a

  368. little bit of one? I'm one-upsmanship with

  369. somebody. Okay, you're going to love this.

  370. All right. Look what happens.

  371. Simon Peter follow? Jesus as did another of the

  372. disciples that's John that other disciple was acquainted with the

  373. high priest. So he knows people.

  374. So he was allowed to enter the high priests Courtyard with

  375. Jesus. Simon or okay.

  376. We'll keep going in the text. Peter had to stay outside the

  377. gate. Okay, yeah, that other disciple,

  378. he happens to know some people, he he was in allowed into the

  379. courtyard but Peterson's he knows nobody, he had to stay

  380. outside the gate. Oh, hold on a second, then the

  381. disciple, who knew the high priest.

  382. Let me just mention who I know again.

  383. Spoke to the woman watching at the gate and she let Peter in.

  384. Go ahead, Peter, I know people you can go ahead and come on in

  385. Okay, let's keep going in the text.

  386. The woman asked Peter, you're not one of that man's disciples

  387. are you. How many of you guys have ever

  388. been asked a question like that that's impossible to answer?

  389. You're not going to date her. Are you right?

  390. You're not going to marry him. Are you you're not going to eat

  391. that entire gallon of ice cream? During this Chiefs football

  392. game? This afternoon, are you?

  393. Well, I was And some Doritos to be honest with you babe.

  394. Okay, let's not get all judgey cash, you're not one of.

  395. That means disciples. Are you Peter?

  396. Check this out. The dude who said I will never

  397. disown you, I will die for you. Even if everybody else leaves, I

  398. won't leave gets asked one question by a small girl.

  399. He's like no, you said, I'm not look what happens.

  400. That's one because it was called the household servants in the

  401. guards had made a charcoal fire. This is one word in the Greek

  402. but we tease it out here in the English charcoal fire, just put

  403. this in the back of your head, we're going to come back to it.

  404. This is this verse or this word only shows up twice in all of

  405. scripture. This is the first time it shows

  406. up They stood around it warming themselves and Peter stood with

  407. them warming himself. Let's keep going.

  408. Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire warming

  409. himself. That ask him again.

  410. You're not one of his disciples are you?

  411. He denied it saying no, I'm not that's two, let's keep going in

  412. the text. But one of the household slaves

  413. of the high priest, a relative of the man, whose ear Peter had

  414. cut off asked, didn't I see you out there in the Olive Grove

  415. with Jesus, I to slow down there because on Thursday night, I

  416. said, Olive Garden. Real hungry, I guess, okay, it's

  417. important that I eat before church, right?

  418. She's sitting there like, man, I feel, I feel like I've seen you

  419. before. I, I never forget a face,

  420. especially the face of a dude who cut my cousin's ear off.

  421. I remember all of those people. There's only been one.

  422. It's your face. I've seen you before.

  423. I know who you are. This isn't like months ago.

  424. This was like hours ago, like, 30 minutes ago.

  425. Didn't I see you like with a little bloody so case.

  426. Your sword is there blood on it? Okay, let's keep going the text

  427. again, Peter denied it and immediately a rooster crowed.

  428. A couple years back, I had the opportunity to be in Israel and

  429. I got to be on the Sea of Galilee and because of the time

  430. change, my sleep schedule is all backed out.

  431. And I was out walking along the banks of the Sea of Galilee

  432. really early in the morning and I was kind of, you know, just

  433. having some chill time and I remember hearing a rooster crow.

  434. And I immediately thought of all the times that I had denied

  435. Jesus failed, Jesus, Let Jesus down.

  436. Maybe you can think of some of the times that you've done it

  437. too. Some have suggested that Peter

  438. never heard the crow of a rooster for the rest of his life

  439. without shedding a tear. Peter is hitting rock, bottom.

  440. Peter is overwhelmed by the what I call used to be.

  441. Have you ever experienced a little bit of used to be?

  442. a husband and wife were getting ready one day and he had just

  443. hopped out of the shower and he was in the bathroom and he was

  444. booked himself in the mirror and he's like, babe.

  445. I just, I'm looking at myself and I'm just Old and fat and

  446. wrinkly and out of shape, I just need you to say.

  447. Just I just need an encouraging word to help me get through this

  448. upcoming day. And his wife said, well, your

  449. eyesight's darn near perfect. How many of you married a woman

  450. like that? God bless you.

  451. Used to be. You used to be skinny, you used

  452. to be athletic. You used to be smart, you used

  453. to like, being around people. Yeah, used to be. well, Peters,

  454. dealing with an awful lot of used to be People might have

  455. looked at Peter and said, didn't you used to be the one who was

  456. the first person to say? You are the Christ, the son of

  457. the Living. God, didn't you used to be the

  458. one who walked on water? Didn't you used to be the one

  459. who helped with the feeding of the 5,000?

  460. Didn't you used to be the one who was on the Mount of

  461. transfiguration with Jesus? Didn't you used to be the one

  462. who was gonna fight to the death for Jesus?

  463. Didn't you used to be the one who said even?

  464. If everybody else denies you, I never will you used to be Maybe

  465. some of you at all of our locations, there's a little bit

  466. of used to be in you. You used to be on staff.

  467. For you used to lead or you used to be in Ministry.

  468. Used to build the kingdom. You used to be in the baptistry.

  469. You used to teach the kids. You used to disciple, the saved.

  470. You used to reach the lost, you used to be on the team you used

  471. to be. I've been putting this

  472. continuing him up on stage for every single week.

  473. I want to say something, I need you to hear me say this.

  474. God loves. Absolutely everybody on this

  475. continuum. He loves the plus 5s, and the

  476. minus 5S. Equally.

  477. Equally there's a part of us. Some of us who are going man.

  478. If I could just become a plus 3 in my faith then he would really

  479. love me. No.

  480. No parents. That's like having a teenager

  481. and a baby and go on man. As soon as this kid starts

  482. driving, I'm really going to love it.

  483. Do you love it? Fully in the moment that it's in

  484. Jesus, no matter where you are, this isn't better or worse than

  485. this is, just where you're at, in your faith and he loves you

  486. equally. But what Satan will get you to

  487. do is to go, will you used to be a five?

  488. But now you're a three and you used to be a three.

  489. And now you're a .5 and you used to be, you know what, you

  490. shouldn't even be a And he pulls you away.

  491. He pulls you out of faith and he pulls you out of community.

  492. And then he gets you in isolation and then he never lets

  493. go. And maybe you've thought it.

  494. Maybe you've felt it. Maybe you've even uttered it.

  495. That you used to be. And now, you can't because you

  496. failed. I'm not going to leave you in

  497. this moment for too long because this is just one of the million

  498. reasons why I love Jesus. And I think it's one of the

  499. million reasons why you will love Jesus.

  500. To look what happens. Look, what Jesus does.

  501. John 21:1 later. Jesus appeared again, to the

    John 21:1

  502. disciples beside the Sea of Galilee now, here's why I'm

  503. telling you, this is because Jesus was killed in Jerusalem,

  504. and Galilee is 70 miles away. Now, you're 70 miles isn't that

  505. far? Well, that's because you're

  506. hopping in your car and driving 70 miles an hour.

  507. This was a multi-day, walk. Out of his way.

  508. Jesus goes on a 70 mile hike and look what our Jesus Does.

  509. This is how it happened. Simon, Peter said I'm going

  510. fishing will come to. They all said, so they went out

  511. in a boat but they caught nothing all night.

  512. Does anybody from week to remember anything?

  513. The Peter and his friends had been fishing all night and they

  514. had caught nothing in Luke Chapter 5.

    Luke 5 chapter mention

  515. Let's keep reading in the text at dawn.

  516. Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn't see

  517. who he was, so he called out fellows.

  518. Have you caught any fish? No, they replied sound familiar.

  519. Okay, let's keep going. Then he said throw your net on

  520. the right hand side of the boat. Okay let's just stop for a

  521. second. Put yourself in the boat.

  522. Hey crazy man on the shore. I'm guessing the fish haven't

  523. been this far away all night. Oh, we've been fishing on the

  524. wrong side of the boat, okay? What like fish are just

  525. naturally gradual like going. Oh yeah.

  526. We swim on the right side of the boats because they'll never

  527. know. Right.

  528. Imagine you getting this kind of advice after fishing all night.

  529. All the other side. Oh thanks.

  530. We never even thought of that. Okay.

  531. So they did better than me and they couldn't haul in the net.

  532. Because there are so many fish in it.

  533. Does it sound familiar to anybody?

  534. Remember, when Jesus called Peter to be his disciple, it was

  535. after a night of catching no fish, and then they caught so

  536. much fish that they couldn't haul.

  537. It. All in the, let's keep going.

  538. Then the disciple, then, the disciple Jesus loved said to

  539. Peter, it is the Lord. When Simon Peter heard that it

  540. was the Lord, he put on his tunic for, he had stripped for

  541. work. He jumped into the water and

  542. headed to shore, the others. With the boat and pulled the

  543. loaded net to the shore. For there were only about 100

  544. yards from Shore when they got there.

  545. They found breakfast waiting for them.

  546. Fish cooking over a charcoal fire.

  547. Does this sound familiar to anybody?

  548. And some bread. There are only two times in all

  549. of scripture that a charcoal fire shows up one is where Peter

  550. denied Jesus. And the second one is where

  551. Jesus restored. Peter one was a fire of denial

  552. and the other one was a fire of Grace.

  553. Look what happens. When they had finished eating,

  554. Jesus said to Simon Peter count, the questions that Jesus asked.

  555. Simon Peter Simon, son of John. Do you love me more than these?

  556. Yes, Lord. He said, you know that, I love

  557. you. Jesus said feed my Lambs again

  558. Jesus said, Simon son of John. Do you love me?

  559. That's two. He answered.

  560. Yes. Lord you know that I love you.

  561. Jesus said take care of my sheep.

  562. The third time, he said to him, Simon, son of John.

  563. Do you love me and Peter was hurt because Jesus had asked him

  564. a third time. Do you love me?

  565. He said, Lord, you know, all things.

  566. You know that I love you. Jesus said feed my sheep very

  567. truly. I tell you, when you were

  568. younger, you dressed yourself and went where you wanted.

  569. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands.

  570. Someone will dress you and lead you, where you do not want to

  571. go. Jesus said this to indicate the

  572. kind of death by which Peter would glorify God.

  573. Peter went on to be crucified upside down, someone dressed him

  574. and let him where he didn't want to go a place to die, and they

  575. stretched out his hands. And they crucified Peter, And

  576. then he said to Peter, follow me.

  577. This is this is why I love Jesus.

  578. So stinkin much and why you should love him too.

  579. After Peter failed. He thought he could no longer be

  580. used to be a fisher of men anymore.

  581. He thought all I can do is fish and he goes back to fishing.

  582. And Jesus shows up and recreates the day that he called him into

  583. Ministry, but he doesn't just recreate the day that he called

  584. him in a Ministry. He recreates the day that Peter

  585. thought he could no longer do ministry.

  586. And every time he asks, Peter do you love me?

  587. He gives him a mission and feed my sheep, take care of my Lambs.

  588. Peter's thinking, I can't do ministry anymore.

  589. I can't be used anymore. I'm a used to be and Jesus is

  590. going. I've got a mission for you.

  591. There were three questions that led to denial.

  592. And there were three questions that led to Restoration.

  593. Peter, never visited those Nets again, he got done with that.

  594. Charcoal fire with Jesus, and he went on to preach the very first

  595. sermon and 3,000 people were baptized that day.

  596. He went on to heal people. He went on to to do in Deal

  597. hardship for the gospel, suffer imprisonment, and he was never

  598. ashamed of Jesus or the gospel ever.

  599. Again, he went on to proclaim, the good news of Jesus Christ to

  600. the Gentiles, which is a really big deal because most of us

  601. unless you're a Jew, are Gentiles.

  602. Peter's failure. Wasn't the end of his testimony.

  603. It was the introduction to his testimony and his failure just

  604. showed how awesome and how extravagant God's love actually

  605. is and what I came to tell you today.

  606. Is there has to be a place. That tells people it's not over

  607. that they can still be used that they can still be redeemed.

  608. That they God can restore you and repurpose you.

  609. That it is not over. Our Jesus go 70 miles out of his

  610. way to make breakfast over a charcoal fire for a dude who

  611. betrayed him. Abandon him denied, he even knew

  612. him. Jesus goes 70 miles out of his

  613. way to tell Peter. It's Not Over.

  614. And I want us to be a church that tells people the exact same

  615. thing. There are people in your life

  616. and maybe you are in this spot right now that you think is

  617. over, you think it's done. You think there's not a bright

  618. future and we need to be the people that rally around them

  619. and say, no, it's not as long as Jesus is in it.

  620. It's not over there has to be a place that tells people, it's

  621. not over and I say that. This is here.

  622. I say that place is with us and I say it's now.

  623. Would you join me in that mission or move into a time of

  624. decision? There are some of you in here

  625. right now and you're going man, Clayton, that's a great message.

  626. But I don't think you were talking about me and what I'm

  627. here to tell you that nothing could be further from the truth.

  628. That every single person that I'm talking to you, whether you

  629. will admit it or not you are a spiritual failure.

  630. I gave that away at the very beginning of the message.

  631. That's what Romans 3:23 tells us every single one of us have

    Romans 3:23

  632. failed spiritually. Nobody in here is perfect.

  633. If you were perfect. Jesus wouldn't have sent his,

  634. Our God wouldn't have sent his son Jesus, he would have sent

  635. you. He sent Jesus for the express

  636. purpose that we are failures. We have failed spiritually, but

  637. your failure doesn't have to be final that the biggest mistake

  638. you can make is being in front of a perfect, Jesus.

  639. He's ready to cover for all of your mistakes and all of your

  640. inadequacies, and all of your sins, and cover it with his

  641. Precious Blood and reject it and go.

  642. Yeah, I'm just too messed up. The more messed up, you think

  643. you are the more you need Jesus. The foot is the, if you grew up

  644. in church, some of you've heard this before, but the ground is

  645. level at the foot of the cross, because all of us have sinned.

  646. And while you might see, my sins is better or worse than your

  647. sins. The bottom line is all sin needs

  648. to be atoned for and it was all atoned for by him.

  649. And if you're in here today, and you've never started an intimate

  650. personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you can, you can start

  651. it today. There's no reason to put it off,

  652. and if you have questions about what that is or what that looks

  653. like, there's going to be somebody over by the Baptist.

  654. Who would love to talk to you about what that is and what that

  655. looks like and begin answering some of the questions that

  656. you're wrestling with. For the rest of you in here.

  657. You have a relationship with Jesus.

  658. You've been following for a while, but maybe you feel like

  659. you've never lived up to your spiritual potential, Maybe

  660. you're carrying the weight of like your Earthly father and you

  661. know you were supposed to be this and you never ended up

  662. being that and you kind of feel like that's how God looks at

  663. you. And I want you to hear me say

  664. this, it's not over. It's Not Over.

  665. You might be going. But Clayton I've blown up my

  666. Ministry or I blown up my marriage or I blown up my

  667. relationship with my kids. I've blown it up and I just want

  668. you to hear me say this. It's not over. because I have

  669. seen situations that looked final that it looked like that

  670. situation was down for the count.

  671. I have seen situations where people would have said, all hope

  672. is lost Then in a moment. In a Flash.

  673. Somehow they allowed Jesus in to the situation and he started

  674. taking ground little by little moment by moment day after day.

  675. And now they will look back and this is the testimony that they

  676. would share to you. That the best thing that ever

  677. happened to me, was the darkest moment of my life.

  678. I've been in marriage counseling and they would say, I know this

  679. sounds crazy, but one of the best things that ever happened

  680. to us, was that Affair and listen.

  681. That is the worst way to describe your marriage.

  682. That the best thing that ever happened was the affair, but

  683. they're not focusing on the affair.

  684. They're focusing on what God did and what appeared to be an

  685. unredeemable situation. And if I could beg those of you

  686. in this room or those of you online to do anything today, it

  687. would be that to get God right in the Little of the situation

  688. whether it is your success or your failure to go, God would

  689. you be right in the middle of it?

  690. Third thing, I'm asking this is the biggest ask.

  691. There are some of you in here that, you know, people that used

  692. to serve with you. They used to sit next to you at

  693. church, they used to be in your life group.

  694. They used to do life with you and they're gone.

  695. And I need you to know that Satan might be using their

  696. isolation to drive them further from God.

  697. And I am asking you this week not just to come up to the steps

  698. and pray for them before you leave.

  699. I'm asking you to call him up. Take him out for lunch by him, a

  700. meal and look across the table from them.

  701. And say it's not over. God could use God could use

  702. those three words. To resurrect a situation.

  703. And we've got to be people. We've got to be a place that has

  704. those conversations of Jesus goes, 70 miles out of his way.

  705. On foot, we can buy a nice meal and give some people.

  706. Hope. I hope that's the kind of church

  707. we are. Would you stand with me?

  708. God, right now I am Personally. So hopeful.

  709. I'm believing that you are going to use these next couple of

  710. moments to bring about significant change, not just for

  711. the people in this room or the people that are watching online,

  712. but you're going to bring about significant change in the people

  713. that we are going to take this message to God, I don't want

  714. this message and I don't want this theme to die at the doors.

  715. Got I want to make it. I want it to make it to the

  716. edges of our reach. Does it there people that are

  717. just hurting right now and they need hope they're people who

  718. think that the it's done and got that need to know that you're

  719. not done. So, God uses us.

  720. And that might be one of your most special.

  721. Aspects of Grace is that you do you use us?

  722. Unworthy messed up, broken people, you use us.

  723. To be a part of your great mission.

  724. It's got we we thank you for that because we don't deserve

  725. it. And I pray that as we get down

  726. on our knees, that we would experience you and draw closer

  727. to you and be encouraged and equipped by you for what lies

  728. ahead in your name, I pray. Amen.
