  1. Crossing family. It is so good to be with each

  2. and every single one of you. I am so glad you here.

  3. I've missed you. And I'm excited to be able to

  4. spend some time with you today. And I don't know what brought

  5. you in. I don't know the circumstances

  6. surrounding you coming. Some of you are navigating,

  7. probably a really rough time in your life right now.

  8. You had a rough week, some of you because the things that are

  9. happening to you relationally, some of you because of the

  10. heartbreaking stuff you're seeing in the news and I just

  11. want you to know you made. One of the best decisions that

  12. you can make to surround yourself with the people of God

  13. to spend time in the word of God and allow the spirit of God to

  14. move in your life, which is the only hope that this broken world

  15. is going to have is that people getting connected with God

  16. through his Holy Spirit and his church and his word.

  17. And so I'm just so glad so glad that you're here.

  18. I have to do this as a little bit.

  19. I just feel compelled to do it. When I was growing up.

  20. I went to a really small church and they had a time in the

  21. service where they did Request and you just raise your hand and

  22. everybody heard your prayer requests and then made a list

  23. and they prayed for it. And then they also did a thing

  24. called this. Anybody in here, raise your hand

  25. if you know what this stands for.

  26. I just want to know the people who grew up in church.

  27. Okay, this stands for praise the lord.

  28. And there were these moments where we had the ptl's of the

  29. service, where you got to say something good that's going on

  30. in your life. And that was your praise, the

  31. Lord moment and we acknowledge those like in the prayer time

  32. and I have a PT l-- thing happening for me this weekend.

  33. So I wanted, I wanted to walk a daughter down the aisle like

  34. that was something I wanted. No, I wanted on my on my list of

  35. things and my stepdaughter Kennedy has an incredible dad.

  36. And so when she got married he got the honor and he should have

  37. to walk her down the aisle. I got the distinct honor of

  38. officiating the wedding, but when Jennifer and I were having

  39. kids, the first two came out were boys and we just couldn't

  40. risk a third because we're going to have to feed them.

  41. And three hensel's is, you know, an Escalade payment when it

  42. comes to a food bill. And so, you know, we had, we had

  43. to stop for budgetary reasons. And so that was kind of like,

  44. you know, well there goes that dream.

  45. Well a girl named Lisa go. I've talked about before she

  46. lived with us for a year. She reached out about four

  47. months ago. And she said, hey, I'm getting

  48. married up in Chicago, over Memorial Day weekend and vanilla

  49. for it's one of my dear friends are Macomb campus.

  50. Pastor is officiating the ceremony, but she asked me if I

  51. get to walk her down the aisle and I said yes immediately and

  52. then I hung up the phone. I went to my bedroom and I just

  53. bawled, I just bawled because only God can just answer the

  54. deepest desires of your heart and unexplained ways and just

  55. one small Act of obedience from my wife, bringing Lisa into our

  56. house, created the opportunity for me to do something that was

  57. heavy on my heart. And so I just, I feel like I owe

  58. it to God, to just declare his favor over my life and that God

  59. answers prayers and he hears us and he knows What we want.

  60. In fact, scripture commands. This look what it says.

  61. In Psalm chapter 40. I'll Proclaim your saving acts

    Psalms 40 chapter mention

  62. in the great assembly. So I felt like I should I do not

  63. seal my lips. Lord, as you know, I do not hide

  64. your righteousness. In my heart.

  65. I speak of your faithfulness in your saving help.

  66. I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness from the great

  67. assembly. He goes on, in first Chronicles,

  68. to say this, what you and I are supposed to do declare his glory

  69. among the nation's, His Marvelous Deeds among all

  70. peoples. For great, is the Lord and most

  71. worthy of Praise. He is to be feared above all

  72. gods and I felt it would be wrong as your pastor to not just

  73. acknowledge where God has been moving in my life.

  74. And that is one of the ways that people who don't have a

  75. relationship with Jesus, can find a relationship with Jesus

  76. is when we declare how God is moving in our lives and how you

  77. can have that intimate personal relationship with him.

  78. So I had to get that out of the way, because I just felt like I

  79. owed it to him. So, thank you for indulging.

  80. Me in that. I want to welcome you from all

  81. of our different. Since I'm so glad you're here.

  82. And if you're brand new to the church, we're in a sermon series

  83. called chasing Shades and Jerry did an incredible job last week

  84. of introducing the The Book of Ecclesiastes.

  85. And he talked about a merry-go-round and how we can

  86. get on the Merry-Go-Round of life and you go round and round

  87. and round, but you don't go anywhere it leaves.

  88. You, right where it found, you only with less money in your

  89. pocket and I could not stop what he was preaching of this GIF.

  90. You guys have seen it. Okay.

  91. Okay. All right, and listen tell me is

  92. this not us? We've fallen off the ride, but

  93. we're not letting go isn't that it?

  94. We're still hanging on. We're in a bad relationship with

  95. a boyfriend, or a girlfriend. We know it's over.

  96. But we're still hanging on, we know it's not good.

  97. Our jobs, our money, our stuff hasn't made us any more happy

  98. anymore fulfilled. But there we are still hanging

  99. on our marriage. Is in a rough patch.

  100. We know that the trajectory were on isn't good.

  101. But we still keep running the passive aggressive play.

  102. We still keep doing the angry fit throwing play.

  103. We're still Hanging on. I know, I just, I just want to

  104. tell you let go. Okay.

  105. Just let go stop. This.

  106. Merry-Go-Round won't solve anything.

  107. All you're going to get now is rug burn.

  108. Okay. All right.

  109. I was talking to Jerry about this on Monday that this sermon

  110. series for me comes from a very pastoral place.

  111. I see so much pain and Brokenness day in and day out.

  112. I hear stories each week that are just gut-wrenching and some

  113. of the worst pain that I experienced is what I call one

  114. day pain. Everybody.

  115. Say one day pain, you know, one day pain is somebody you love.

  116. They're getting ready to walk down a road.

  117. And you know that when they walk down that road one day, they're

  118. going to experience an awful lot of pain.

  119. We've all seen people on the one day Pain, Train that schedule

  120. that business practice that belief system, that

  121. relationship, that purchase that uncontrolled emotion is one day

  122. going to cause them an awful lot of pain.

  123. The list could go on and on and some of us we could provide

  124. testimony. If we were to pass the mic

  125. around at each of our locations and talk about the one-day pain,

  126. that you've experienced in your life that you had.

  127. All of these road signs. All of these people yelling turn

  128. around, but you just kept going. In fact you increase the speed

  129. instead of slowing down. And one day, it all came

  130. crashing down. This sermon series is designed

  131. to keep you from one day pain. It comes from a place with a of

  132. added a sincere, desire to help you learn from the wisdom of God

  133. and apply it in your life and education.

  134. There is a model of learning called The Bark model and all of

  135. you teachers, don't noose me over this.

  136. Just I know I'm not a teacher and you're like, well, that one

  137. was so good. Back went.

  138. Okay, just track with me. Okay, you don't make sense.

  139. Visual auditory reading and writing and can aesthetic.

  140. And you guys, you guys are all smart.

  141. You get all this visual. It's people who are better able

  142. to retain information when it's displayed and presented on

  143. graphs and charts and diagrams auditory.

  144. Learners are people that it makes more sense to them when

  145. they hear it when it's presented to them vocally.

  146. When they hear it they begin to engage at a higher level reading

  147. and writing is when they focus on the written word, text Heavy

  148. resources. They're typically note takers

  149. and then There's the kinesthetic Learners when they physically

  150. engage, when they take an active role employing their senses

  151. during the Hands-On approach seals in the information and

  152. that's why. When we preach, we try to make

  153. sure that we're hitting as many of those as possible.

  154. The one we can't do is the kinesthetic one.

  155. You have to do that one. When you leave, you have to

  156. trust God. You have to get take a step of

  157. faith and go. I'm going to apply what I

  158. learned visually auditorily through reading and writing and

  159. I'm going to put it into play in my life and watch the Of God, be

  160. revealed through my actions can aesthetically, and we try to

  161. employ all of these methods. However, there are some things

  162. that can only be learned can aesthetically.

  163. Like, I could all of us right now, you could learn how to

  164. change a tire on any four of those.

  165. Like, you could, you know, you could watch all a slideshow on

  166. how to change a tire. You could go out for the most

  167. part. I mean, I wouldn't drive it, but

  168. most of you, you could put the tire on Right, you could, you

  169. could hear someone talk you through it and some of your

  170. like. Oh, yeah, not a problem.

  171. Go out, spend it on your good to go.

  172. Some of you, you could, you know, you pull out the

  173. instruction manual and you Like how many newtons of torque

  174. numbers like, when you can't turn it anymore?

  175. That's when it's good. Right, but you can do all four

  176. of those when it comes to changing a tire.

  177. But when it comes to riding a bike, The only way to learn how

  178. to ride a bike. It's can aesthetically.

  179. It's actually getting on the bike.

  180. Can you imagine someone saying have you ridden a bike before?

  181. No, but I've read all the books about it.

  182. You like? Okay.

  183. It's a steep hill. Hold on.

  184. All right. Yeah, you just can't you have to

  185. well when it comes to life I want you as often as possible to

  186. avoid having to learn experientially.

  187. I want you to learn visually by watching the lives of other

  188. Christians around you, or people who aren't following Jesus, and

  189. seeing what happens. I want you to pay close

  190. attention, and listen to the people around.

  191. You proclaiming wisdom, and pointing you to the truth of

  192. God's word and listening to people who have already

  193. travelled down that road and can tell you what's right or what's

  194. wrong, and how that's going to impact you.

  195. That's how people can spot one day pain.

  196. Because they've already been down that they had some day pain

  197. and they're trying to prevent you from one day pain.

  198. I want you to learn about life, through Reading and taking notes

  199. of those who have gone before you.

  200. And if you have to learn life lessons, experientially, I want

  201. you to choose to engage experientially in areas where

  202. other people around. You have experienced massive

  203. success, or at least have an incredible safety net now.

  204. Because experience is a profound teacher, it will teach but the

  205. price tag is high. And I know that that's not life

  206. is not that simple. Sometimes it's hard and you're

  207. going to have to do backflips from time to time.

  208. And I know that's tough. But when you have to find

  209. yourself in a moment where you have to do a backflip, have a

  210. safety net. True story.

  211. I want to be able to do a standing back flip.

  212. I've wanted to know how to do a standing back, flip since high

  213. school and I practice and I have yet to fully succeed.

  214. Okay. Now, you know why I'm still

  215. standing here and not, you know, didn't have to get wheeled up

  216. here. It's because I don't practice in

  217. the front yard. Okay, I pick a place that has.

  218. So I practiced when when you know campus pastors or kids want

  219. to go to a trampoline park. I don't do the foam pit.

  220. I don't do it on the trampoline because you know that bounces

  221. back and you know, I don't that's a lot of weight on one

  222. Little Neck. Okay, but listen, if you take me

  223. to your backyard pool and you get on your diving board, I will

  224. pull off a beautiful backflip with toes pointed.

  225. Okay? Legit I just I'm not at a point

  226. yet where I'm going to like, you know stand in your front yard

  227. and jump up and grab my knees. Just not ready there.

  228. So you can try the bigger things.

  229. If you have a better safety, net Solomon is coming to you and

  230. coming to me from both the past and the future to give you a

  231. nun, the ability to learn without having to practice can

  232. aesthetically. He's saying, I'm coming to you

  233. from the past and the future. He's coming to you from the past

  234. because he's Been there, done that and he knows the outcome,

  235. but he's also coming to you from the future.

  236. Because if you were to take every one of your wildest dreams

  237. and Ambitions and multiply them by 10,000.

  238. You still wouldn't be in the ballpark of the pleasure that he

  239. experienced and he found all of them.

  240. Halo. I want you to pay close

  241. attention to him. I want you to learn from him.

  242. I want you to lean into the blessing that God is trying to

  243. give you because if you don't it will cost you what you treasure.

  244. Most it will cost you time and relationships.

  245. It will rob you of purpose and meaning we did the sermon survey

  246. a while back, and this is what you said.

  247. In our church. 53 percent of us are searching for purpose and

  248. meaning. 60%, six out of ten of you need help handling stress.

  249. 40% of, you are dealing with burnout 40% for in 10 of us, are

  250. dealing with an identity crisis in short.

  251. We don't know who we are. We don't know why we are, and we

  252. are stressing and burning ourselves out in the process.

  253. That's why we're preaching about chasing sheets.

  254. It's because I want you to take in Solomon's wisdom and apply it

  255. in your life and experience the blessing, the chapter I'm about

  256. to talk to you is about is all about the piece.

  257. It is pleasure projects, possessions power profession,

  258. and position. I'm not going to say that fast

  259. because Papa please just preached this sermon.

  260. Okay. Now you'll remember, it

  261. Ecclesiastes chapter 2. I'm going to walk you through

    Ecclesiastes 2 chapter mention

  262. the whole chapter. So if you brought your Bible,

  263. use it, here we go. I said to myself, this is

  264. Solomon. Come now.

  265. I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good, but that

  266. also Have to be everybody, help me out.

  267. That's interesting. Laughter.

  268. I said is madness and what does pleasure accomplish?

  269. I tried cheering myself up with wine and embracing Folly, my

  270. mind, still guiding me with wisdom.

  271. I wanted to see what was good for people to do Under the

  272. heavens during the few days of their lives, Solomon seeks, the

  273. pleasure of substances, and he doesn't Find meaning and purpose

  274. at the bottom of the bottle. He doesn't find Escape because

  275. it's waiting for him when he sobers up.

  276. That's why I'm so glad our church and many of our locations

  277. has a region Ministry because it helps people overcome and

  278. recapture. What drugs alcohol and pills

  279. have taken. It helps them find Victory and

  280. meaning in Christ. Jesus.

  281. So solemn and tries pleasure in the bottle, doesn't find it

  282. there. Then he tries laughter and he

  283. doesn't find it there either. All the comedian's, all the

  284. Netflix specials can can never permanently.

  285. Replace the realities of this world.

  286. You can laugh as much as you want.

  287. You can try to find ways to keep yourself away from the pain and

  288. sorrow and the misery, but eventually it's going to come it

  289. too is meaningless. So then he goes on chapter 2,

  290. verse 4, through 6. I undertook great projects.

  291. I built houses for myself and planted Vineyards.

  292. I made Gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees

  293. in them. I made reservoirs to water grows

  294. of flourishing trees. So he's tried pleasure.

  295. He's tried. He's tried wine, didn't find it,

  296. tried laughter, didn't find it. You know what?

  297. I'll do, I'll just build great things and that is exactly what

  298. he did. He built absolutely beautiful

  299. things. He built the temple of God and

  300. it took him seven years to build it.

  301. Then he went to build his own house and it took him. 14 says

  302. something about his relationship with God.

  303. That the house of God was only worth half of the time that he

  304. spent for his. When his own house, but you

  305. know, some of you can relate, you're like man, I've been

  306. waiting for my husband to put outlet covers on our house for

  307. about 13 years. You're like, I get it.

  308. I understand how it happens and I just want you to know this,

  309. all those things that he built, you can still touch them to this

  310. day in 2023. Our church is gonna be going to

  311. Israel. You're going to get some

  312. information about that and you're going to be able to

  313. actually physically touch the foundation stones that he put in

  314. place for the temple and you're going to be amazed at the wisdom

  315. that it must have taken to figure out how to get those

  316. things into. Place.

  317. You can go there and 3,000 years later.

  318. They're still there, but they don't have any meaning in them.

  319. Have you ever met somebody? Raise your hand.

  320. If you know somebody who's built a house, all those people are

  321. the worst, aren't they? The probably like they're

  322. convinced that everybody cares, right?

  323. You met them. Look at these pictures.

  324. And this is how we did our electrical stuff.

  325. And I did this cool thing with the plumbing, and here's a cool

  326. sound system. Like, oh man, so like, makes

  327. sound and stuff. Cool, dude, right?

  328. You've met those people. Yeah, and then then, after they

  329. get done, Their house, they poured the have the wet concrete

  330. and they all put their name in it and like 40 years later.

  331. You can't even see what the name is.

  332. Like, who's that? I don't know.

  333. It's the idiot who didn't put a light in the pantry, right?

  334. It's like what's the what's the deal with this dude?

  335. Right? Look, I just our every time we

  336. get money. It has to go somewhere.

  337. So we've been saving up to do a remodel on our house and then

  338. the roof leaked. Okay, and I put really cool

  339. shingles on my house because I wanted a metal roof, but I was

  340. pretty sure. My neighbors would get upset if

  341. I put a regular metal roof. So I found the metal roof, that

  342. makes it look like real shingles and I spent all of this money to

  343. fix my roof and nobody comes nobody.

  344. Nobody has come by my house and like, those shingles look,

  345. awesome. No, they don't even know Irish.

  346. Gold my roof. They don't even care.

  347. I try to tell him. And, you know, see though, you

  348. know what, you're not going to believe this that thing that you

  349. can barely see right there, right there.

  350. Look real carefully. You see that?

  351. That's actually metal. They're not going up.

  352. I'd like to accept Jesus. You're so tell me more

  353. Copernicus, writing. They never not be.

  354. There's like, okay, cool. Cool Flex, man, like well, I

  355. didn't just do it there. I did it there too, but did the

  356. whole roof? Frank.

  357. You okay, cool, man, and I'm super pumped about the project

  358. and nobody cares and whenever I sell that house.

  359. There's going to be some guy going.

  360. Yeah, some dude, put all this money in the middle on the roof

  361. and his cabinets. Don't match.

  362. What? Okay, it's good.

  363. You've been there. Some of you, you're boiling your

  364. life down to how good your yard looks or how nice your living

  365. room, enhances conversations, and we went with the vaulted

  366. ceiling. So that way when people come in,

  367. you can hear the laughter reverberate through the drywall,

  368. but you're a mean person. So, nobody ever comes over to

  369. your house and these say, It's not there.

  370. I'll look what he says, Ecclesiastes 24/7 through 8.

  371. I bought male and female slaves, and had other slaves.

  372. Who were born in my house. I owned more herds and flocks

  373. than anyone in Jerusalem. Before me, I am as silver and

  374. gold for myself, in the Treasure of kings and provinces.

  375. I acquired male and female singers and a harem as well, the

  376. Delights of a man's heart. Here he talks about power

  377. possession and pleasure. He has employees for every task.

  378. He has a gardener and a pool boy and a cup bear and a coffee

  379. maker and a close picker router and a clothes iron.

  380. ER, he has them all. And it's not there.

  381. He has all the flocks and herds you could ever want one time,

  382. when he dedicates the temple. He Slaughters, 22 thousand cows,

  383. 120 thousand sheep and goats. That's just what he sacrificed

  384. to God. That's not what he had in his

  385. possession. As for his sound system.

  386. He has the original surround sound.

  387. He has people that are like his walking soundtrack.

  388. And he's like, do the Bruno. Okay, and they're like, we don't

  389. talk about Bruce, don't know. And they're like, oh, that's

  390. cool. Right.

  391. That's all he has. He's living it up.

  392. It's, you know, instead of Dolby.

  393. It's Solomon surround sound, ask for money.

  394. He was making 2.7 million a day. As for sex, 700 wives and 300

  395. concubines. This is a man who has all the

  396. money, all the toys, all the power and all the sex you could

  397. ever want. And he comes to one conclusion

  398. Church. Meaningless.

  399. Look what it says. In Ecclesiastes verse 9.

  400. I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me

  401. and all of my and in all of this, my wisdom stayed with me.

  402. I denied myself. Nothing my eyes desired.

  403. I refused my heart. No pleasure.

  404. My heart took Delight in all of my labor.

  405. And this was the reward for all of my toil here.

  406. We see position and power. He's the best, the greatest.

  407. No One Compares them before, or Come after him.

  408. He is the undisputable. Goat the greatest of all time.

  409. No one could deny him. Absolute power.

  410. He's out the Pinnacle. No one tells him.

  411. No, nothing's Out Of Reach. Nothing costs too much. and he

  412. says, It's meaningless. Jim Carrey.

  413. Jim Carrey make this statement at a graduation ceremony where

  414. he was the keynote speaker. I wish people could realize all

  415. their dreams and wealth and fame so they could see that.

  416. It is not where you are going to find your sense of completion.

  417. Ecclesiastes 2 verse 11 yet. When I surveyed all that my

    Ecclesiastes 2:11

  418. hands had done and what had I had toiled to achieve?

  419. Everything was meaningless a chasing after the wind.

  420. Nothing was gained other, the sun, after all, this all the

  421. pleasure, all the possessions, all the power, all the position,

  422. all the projects. It's meaningless.

  423. He's lived a selfish life, a life dedicated to himself, and

  424. it did not satisfy. He drank deeply of all that the

  425. world had to offer and yet he was still hungry and thirsty.

  426. It never quenched. It never filled.

  427. Verses 12 through 16. Then I turned my thoughts to

  428. consider wisdom. And also Madness and Folly.

  429. And what more can the king's successor do than what has

  430. already been done? I saw that wisdom is better than

  431. Folly just as light is better than Darkness.

  432. The wise Have Eyes in their heads, while the fool walks

  433. around in the darkness, but I came to realize that the same

  434. fate, overtakes them both. Then I said to myself, the fate

  435. of the fool Will overtake me. Also, what then do I gain by

  436. being wise? I said to myself this too, is,

  437. if I help me out meaningless for the wives, like, the full will

  438. not be long remembered. The days have already come when

  439. both have been. Gotten like the fool.

  440. The wise too must die. Now he comes and realizes that

  441. death, awaits us all. It comes for everyone, the wise

  442. and the foolish. And if this life is all there,

  443. is this life can't be it because he has searched the Heights and

  444. depths of it and found it meaningless.

  445. And he keeps going like, man. I'm glad we came here.

  446. We needed to pick me up, Clayton, appreciate this 17

  447. through 19. So I hated life because the work

  448. that is done under the sun was Grievous to me.

  449. All of it is meaningless a chasing after the wind.

  450. I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun because

  451. I must leave them to the one who comes after me and who knows,

  452. whether that person will be wise or foolish.

  453. Those of you who are older, who put a little bit of money,

  454. aside. You're going man.

  455. I worked my whole life for this and I'm going to turn it over to

  456. the kid. He was wearing skinny jeans, and

  457. I don't know. I just don't.

  458. He realizes that eventually everything he has is going to

  459. belong to someone else. He realizes, he can't take it

  460. with him and those coming after him, they squander, what took

  461. his entire life of toil to set aside.

  462. Or they could take what was given to them, and they could

  463. waste their entire lives. Trying to find meaning in it.

  464. He's depressed. And he keeps going.

  465. Yet, they will have control over all the fruit of my toil into

  466. which I have poured, my effort and skill Under the Sun, this

  467. too is meaningless. So my heart began to despair

  468. over all my toilsome labor Under the Sun for a person may labor

  469. with wisdom, knowledge and skill.

  470. And then they must leave all by own to another who has not

  471. toiled for it. This too is meaningless in a

  472. great misfortune. What do people get for all the

  473. toil and anxious striving with which they labor Under the Sun?

  474. All their days? Their work is grief and pain

  475. even at night. Their minds, do not rest.

  476. This too is meaningless. He turns to your profession.

  477. Because how did you get the big pile that you have that you're

  478. going to leave to your kids? Oh, I remember how you got it.

  479. You got it by giving all of your days and all of your life to a

  480. job and you piled it high and you had your success but you you

  481. got up early and you stayed up late but you neglected your

  482. health and your marriage and you neglected your kids, you burnt

  483. yourself out, you stretch yourself out, you run on empty,

  484. you fill yourself up through the drive-thru window, only to find

  485. yourself way down with grief and pain.

  486. You can't even sleep because you've been striving for a

  487. profession. Does not satisfy.

  488. You hear people talk all the time about finding the job that

  489. they want that? They were meant for doesn't

  490. exist. You were meant for God.

  491. That's what you were meant for. You remember that?

  492. You may enjoy what you do. Cool.

  493. Great. But if you're trying to find

  494. your meaning in that, not their man, look.

  495. What he says, something turns here A person can do nothing

  496. better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own

  497. toil this to, I see is from the hand of God for without him.

  498. Who can eat or find enjoyment to the person who pleases him.

  499. God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness.

  500. But to The Sinner, he Gives the task of gathering and storing up

  501. wealth to hand it. Over to the one who pleases God,

  502. this too is meaningless a chasing after the wind here is

  503. where he gives us the answer. It is when you take the things

  504. of the lower story and you aim them at heaven, when you aim

  505. them at the upper story, that is where you find your meaning and

  506. purpose, it is when the things that God has given you here on

  507. Earth are leveraged for eternity.

  508. It's when you eat and drink with friends, to share the good news

  509. of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That's when you invite people

  510. over, and you have something to drink to put a cheers together

  511. for God and His favor over your life, his protection, and his

  512. provision. It's when you take your position

  513. and you leverage it to point people, to Jesus at work.

  514. It's when you come become, the boss that prays for his

  515. employees and hopes that one day, you get to join them in the

  516. baptistry and baptize your employees.

  517. Your job isn't to employees. Many people in possible and to

  518. grow as big as possible, but you see yourself as a Bosco and I'm

  519. so glad I get the opportunity to employ people and treat them

  520. well, so that way I can point them to Jesus who made it all

  521. possible. It's when you build your house

  522. with the hope of entertaining, The Young and the orphan, The

  523. Refuge, and the distraught and the questioning, and you go, we

  524. have more rooms in our house than we have people on.

  525. Wonder, if there's people who need a room and you start

  526. bringing people in and loving them and showing them the ways

  527. of Christ. It's when you were getting ready

  528. for the summer. It's when you turn your camper

  529. or your lake house into an opportunity to be a Ministry

  530. Retreat or to invest in a young couple who are trying to figure

  531. out how to navigate the challenges of marriage.

  532. It's, when you take your possessions and you turn them

  533. over and try and make them a gift to the kingdom of God, to

  534. be leveraged to bring people into the kingdom of God.

  535. It's when you decide to see your work as an opportunity to show

  536. off how good God is when you want to be the very best

  537. employee. So that way your boss is

  538. scratching your head in. Why do you show up early?

  539. Why do you stay late? And why do you work harder than

  540. everybody else? And you, you look at your boss

  541. and you go, it's because I'm not working for you.

  542. Because the Bible tells me to do it all as if I was doing it

  543. under God. When you become that kind of

  544. person, that's where it finds. Meaning.

  545. I'm doing this job to point people to Jesus.

  546. Now, how do I wrap this all up? I'm huge.

  547. I'm ginormous. I can't even.

  548. For those of you to other locations.

  549. It's hard. I'm just a big old dude.

  550. And I cannot I cannot I cannot I cannot find clothes that fit me.

  551. It is one of the most impossible things on planet Earth and it's

  552. incredibly frustrating because I want to look nice when I go

  553. places and all the clothes that I end up buying just are from p

  554. and so my wife put me on Stitch fix and for the longest time, we

  555. were able to get a whole bunch of outfits that kind of made me

  556. look decent when I stand in front of you because I get

  557. insecure. And the problem is they're

  558. really good at finding me pants and sweaters.

  559. And if you remember, last year, I preached through the summer in

  560. sweaters and when you're my size, that's a lot of sweat.

  561. Okay, I'm getting dehydrated. Can't get enough in my system.

  562. And here's the thing. Everybody.

  563. I meet says, oh, you should try this store.

  564. No, man. It doesn't have it.

  565. It just doesn't and you all use your try.

  566. This one doesn't have it like seven years ago.

  567. We went to Vegas and everybody's like, oh, we're going to go

  568. shopping. Popping.

  569. I bought a cigar and just sat outside because there's like,

  570. nothing. I'm I talk to people on the

  571. street about Jesus and watch The Magicians and, you know, tried

  572. to sing a couple Tunes with the street guys, but there ain't

  573. nothing in there. And people will convince me.

  574. You've got to come in here. They'll have stuff in your size.

  575. I walk in, go to, it takes me about two seconds noop.

  576. And then they'll say this, as if I've never heard this before,

  577. have you ever tried a big and tall store?

  578. The thought, never crossed my mind here?

  579. I am big and tall my whole life and I never even thought to

  580. Google it. Not once.

  581. Yeah, I've been to all of them. All of those stores are big, not

  582. tall. I mean, I could put a couple

  583. poles and a family of five could sleep in whatever shirt they

  584. want to give me. That's it.

  585. Okay, and it's like, incredibly frustrating because I want to

  586. look nice. I don't want to look frumpy and

  587. I get so tired of preaching and sweaters in the summer.

  588. This past weekend. We went somewhere.

  589. And guess what? Everybody on the, on the, on the

  590. trip wanted to do. They wanted to shop?

  591. Okay, so I'm like, alright, where am I sitting?

  592. And they're like, would you just try this one store?

  593. Would you just give it a shot? Lecture, so I walk in, I go all

  594. along this, the left side. Jenny.

  595. No. Jenny house.

  596. All right. Well, we tried.

  597. And then my wife said this, they have a big and tall section.

  598. Okay, I heard that before. We go in there and I try on a

  599. shirt. And holla at your boy, if it

  600. didn't fit like a glove. As I'm demonstrating right now.

  601. Okay. Yeah, praise the Lord.

  602. Yeah. This shirt is so stinking comfy.

  603. It's like made with Angel Souls. It is, you know, I'm telling

  604. you, I'm on point right now. I go into the, I go into the

  605. changing room and my wife just starts bringing me more and

  606. more, and every one I put on. Unlike.

  607. Yeah, I think we should. And the running a sale 25% off,

  608. you know, that means every fourth shirts foot for free.

  609. So I stack a bag and I walk out and I I'm like, all right.

  610. I got I got four shirts. I feel I feel great.

  611. I'm not going to sweat all summer.

  612. And I'm standing up and I'm just like me.

  613. And that was just fantastic. I just This is amazing.

  614. My wife skills. Do you think we should go back

  615. in there and get the rest of the shirts?

  616. So, I went back in. And I go to the back and Felicia

  617. bees there. There's to Felicia's Felicia be,

  618. was there. You can be, hopefully she's

  619. watching this weekend because she's coming to Women's

  620. Conference. And so is the lady who the other

  621. lady, who checked us out because I'm not going to tell you how

  622. long that receipt while I was a kid.

  623. You not. I bought every shirt they had.

  624. Their that was my size. I had people, I had people

  625. voting. I took the little folding table

  626. that had the wheelie chair and I put all the shirts that were my

  627. size and I was like, okay, let's do a quick vote.

  628. Only the unanimous ones are getting into the pile and I

  629. stacked it. I then I went to the front and

  630. then I Clayton. Do you know, you could get an

  631. extra 15% off? And I said, how do I do that?

  632. Sign up for the text. Message thing is like, well, I

  633. already paid only 25% off on these shirts.

  634. The first time around, like, well, you have to return all

  635. those. So I returned all of the shirts.

  636. I had purchased for 25% and then I purchased all of them for 40%

  637. off and I walked out with two bags, which listen to me in the

  638. history of my life. I have never had two bags of

  639. clothes that fit me. Why is this simple matter to

  640. you? This is the closest thing that I

  641. can tell you about what it is. Like when you finally experience

  642. Jesus, I'ma tell you why. Track with me.

  643. You have searched in place after place after place after place.

  644. And everybody has told you that it's in pleasure and everybody's

  645. told you it's in projects and everybody's told you that if you

  646. finally get your house that you want, you'll finally be happy.

  647. And everybody's told you that if you have the right kind of dog,

  648. you'll be happy. And if you have the right kind

  649. of house, you'll be happy. And if you have the right kind

  650. of cars, you'll be happy. And then if you have more cars

  651. in the cars that you can possibly drive, if you finally

  652. have For cars, but you only have two drivers then you'll be

  653. happy. And they've told you that if you

  654. get different kind of carpet, you'll in your house.

  655. You'll finally be happy. And they told you that, if you

  656. repaint the walls, you'll finally be happy.

  657. And if you make those friends and you belong to those clubs

  658. and you have this kind of job and you make this kind of money,

  659. and you have these kind of benefits, you've been told over

  660. and over and over again. By people, if you just have

  661. this, then you'll be happy. And one day someone says

  662. something you like. Hey, man, have you ever heard

  663. about Jesus? And you like man?

  664. I've tried everything and I'm not going to find it there

  665. either and they go all. But would you would you come in

  666. for a little bit when you give Jesus just a chance and you find

  667. yourself in an unassuming town, at one of our unassuming

  668. campuses, and someone talks to you about a person named Jesus

  669. and you try it. Jesus on a little bit in your

  670. like, hold on a second. It fits.

  671. And man, does it feel good? And they're like, well, there's

  672. not just there's not just forgiveness.

  673. There's mercy and you're like, oh my goodness, Mercy feels good

  674. too. And you're like, oh hold on a

  675. second. There's not just forgiveness and

  676. mercy, there's Grace. The you like hold on a second.

  677. There's not just mercy and forgiveness and Grace.

  678. There's also love you like. Oh my goodness.

  679. I can't believe I finally found it and you go up to the register

  680. and you go to pay and you're like, well, it's actually

  681. already been paid. And you're like, oh my goodness

  682. in you and you walk out of the store and you're going, I can't

  683. believe that all of this was in there.

  684. I never would have guessed. And then somebody looks at you

  685. and he says, do you think you should go back in?

  686. And so you go, you go back in and you, you go to the place in

  687. your hold on a second. There's, there's meaning and

  688. their significance. And there's purpose, and there's

  689. Mission. All of this is there.

  690. And it's, it's for me and it fits and I can have it and you

  691. go up to the register. Your like, I was in here earlier

  692. and it was I know the price was, I couldn't believe it, but I

  693. picked up some additional items and they're like, actually these

  694. items are on sale, too. If you, and I could stop chasing

  695. all the things that this world has to offer.

  696. And finally chased Jesus. I am fully convinced that all

  697. the question marks in your soul, will turn into exclamation

  698. marks. We're moving to a time of

  699. decision. For those of you in this room

  700. and watching online. I'll be quick because I went

  701. long and I apologize. I am ate up with the person and

  702. work of Jesus Christ. And that is the mission of this

  703. church is to help people find an intimate personal relationship

  704. with Jesus Christ. And there's some of you in this

  705. room or some of you watching online.

  706. You have watched everybody else. Walk out of the store lit up and

  707. excited about what they have found in Jesus.

  708. And you just keep peeking through the window.

  709. Go man, it'd be nice if I could and boy.

  710. It looks like they're super happy, but I don't know if they

  711. have my size. I'm telling you, man.

  712. They have it. Jesus has the answer for all

  713. shapes, and all sizes, and all colors, and all backgrounds and

  714. all economic statuses. He has, what every single person

  715. is looking, but you are never going to experience.

  716. What Christ has to offer by looking at them.

  717. It's only when you place your trust in him, when you receive

  718. the work that he did for you on the cross.

  719. And we here at the Crossing, the way you start to experience that

  720. relationship with Jesus Christ, as when you recognize that God

  721. is God, and you're not that you've sinned and you can't

  722. figure it out on your own. You can't pay it back on your

  723. own. There's a debt that you can't

  724. handle and you recognize that when Jesus came, he lived a

  725. perfect and sinless life on your behalf in the he died on the

  726. cross on your behalf to Searches for, you, freedom, and

  727. Redemption, and Eternity. That the lower story is not your

  728. destiny, that there is something more coming later and you go,

  729. you know what, I want that. And the way you receive that is

  730. when you become obedient than the area of baptism and you

  731. allow yourself to model what Jesus Christ did on the cross.

  732. You allow yourself to be buried and brought back to life in the

  733. Bible, says, in second Corinthians 5:17.

    2 Corinthians 5:17

  734. Anyone who is in Christ, is a new creation.

  735. The old has gone. The new has come and some of

  736. you. Have been watching everybody

  737. else step into the newness and going.

  738. Well. I'm not ready yet.

  739. It's like you're wearing burlap and just going man.

  740. I just wish this wasn't so scratchy and everybody around.

  741. You is like will then take it off.

  742. Like you are walking in your own pain, in your own misery for

  743. your and it's your own choice. You could experience the healing

  744. power of Jesus if you want it. And if there's some of you in

  745. here today to have that question, you're in that spot.

  746. There's any people over by the Baptist who love to just talk

  747. with you. Just have the conversation for

  748. the rest of you already have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

  749. When are we going to become a brand ambassadors?

  750. We're going look where I mean. Listen me there.

  751. I'm going to get tons of emails this week, Molly's here.

  752. She'll handle him. I'll tell you exactly where I

  753. got them because they're fly. I'm going to be wearing one

  754. every week. When you see me, I'm gonna be

  755. like the most beautiful plus-size model the world has

  756. ever seen. When you find it and it means

  757. something to you, you can't help but become a brand ambassador.

  758. And if there's if there's nothing in you that swelling up

  759. and gratitude towards God, where you would talk about them, the

  760. problems not with him. The problem is probably with us.

  761. And we spend just a little bit of time on our knees.

  762. Just saying, God, help me to get that passion back for me to get

  763. that. Right.

  764. Would you stand with me? God used this moment right here,

  765. right now to do a transforming work in this church.

  766. Got I know that all across this region campus pastors are

  767. landing the plane right now and I pray that people at all of our

  768. locations including this one would be willing to take a step

  769. of faith. Maybe it's getting down on their

  770. knees and praying or going over and talk to somebody about

  771. baptism, but God were believing in asking and begging.

  772. Being you to do a work in us, not in the people around us not

  773. in our row, but in us us first your name, I pray.

  774. Amen.
