  1. Good moms. Let you lick the beaters right

  2. after they finished making some icing.

  3. Great moms. Turn them off first.

  4. Daughter asked her mom. What do you want for Mother's

  5. Day? Mom replied.

  6. I'd really like a doctor for a son-in-law.

  7. Tell me if these questions sound familiar in your house.

  8. Mom, where's my sock, Mom? Where's my outfit for tomorrow?

  9. Mom can you make me a sandwich Mom?

  10. I don't feel good. What's wrong with me?

  11. Dad. Where's Mom?

  12. Okay. A kid went to his dad and said.

  13. Dad what's a man? Dad said a man is someone who's

  14. responsible and cares for their family.

  15. The kid replied one day. I hope to be a man, just like

  16. Mom. One kid said, my dad thinks he

  17. wears the pants around the house, but it's my mom who tells

  18. him which ones to put. On.

  19. Some of you can relate with this one.

  20. My dad always taught me to share my toys with my siblings.

  21. It wasn't to develop social skills or characters because my

  22. dad was a cheapskate and didn't want to spend 50% or when to cut

  23. 50% out of the cost on spending on toys.

  24. Here's another one. If you've been to the beach

  25. recently, do you want to know my dad's are always tired from a

  26. day at the beach? It's because they've been

  27. exercising all day because every time they see somebody in a

  28. bikini they suck in. College girl was asked, what is

  29. the most influential book? Or what book is had the biggest

  30. impact on your life? She wrote Into the professor, my

  31. father's checkbook. That's that that's been the

  32. book. Today, we are going to talk

  33. about God's design for the family.

  34. And I want to welcome you joining from all of our

  35. different locations. So those of you here at 48th

  36. Street, those of you in Macomb, Kirksville 929, Pike County,

  37. Hannibal Lima, Mount Sterling Keokuk, Monmouth Jacksonville,

  38. and to all of you watching online.

  39. Line and inside I also want to welcome all of you who are

  40. joining us for the first time or the first time in a long time.

  41. And I want to encourage you, please take advantage of that QR

  42. code. On the seat in front of you.

  43. It'll give you a great opportunity for you to connect

  44. with us on a deeper level. My hope today, is that no matter

  45. where you are in your spiritual journey, that you would leave

  46. knowing that this church loves you and that you can have an

  47. intimate personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  48. Next week, I have a very special sermon For you a sermon that I

  49. believe will be a gift to every relationship that you value.

  50. So I can't encourage you enough to make sure you come back next

  51. week. If you want to bring a friend I

  52. believe it will be life giving to them.

  53. But today I want to talk to you about God's design for the

  54. family and there are some of you who you think your days of

  55. parenting are over. And there are others of you who

  56. are going. I thought my days of parenting

  57. would be over. You're either raising grandkids

  58. or you have kids that will not leave the house.

  59. There are some of you listening to me right now and you're not

  60. married. Yet, I want you to hear me

  61. clearly lean in extra hard. You might be thinking this

  62. sermon is not for you, but I promise this message might be

  63. one of the most important messages you here, even if

  64. you're in high school because one day, you are going to have

  65. to navigate all of these Waters. And these principles will help.

  66. Help you navigate them. Others of you are going to hear

  67. this sermon and you're going to be going.

  68. Nope, your ears are full of lots of pain, your family is so

  69. jacked up. So dysfunctional that hearing

  70. this message, feels more like salt in the wound.

  71. Then healing balm. I want, you know, my family's

  72. jacked up to however, I believe that if you stay through this,

  73. there are principles that will act as Seeds of Hope for all of

  74. you re. Regardless of your situation

  75. even for stepdads and stepmoms. For those of you who are

  76. navigating divorces or our divorce, those of you who are in

  77. split up families and families that have been blown to pieces.

  78. For those of you who don't know, I am a stepdad and I have had to

  79. learn how to navigate some of these principles and navigate

  80. some of these Waters. And I can tell you that these

  81. biblical principles are trustworthy and you can build

  82. build your life on them. And if you are here today and

  83. your family is not turning out the way you thought and it's not

  84. turning out the way you had hoped and perhaps your marriage,

  85. and having kids was a lot harder than you anticipated.

  86. I want you to know, you're in really good company.

  87. Because if you were to read the Bible from cover to cover, you

  88. know what, you would have a hard time finding a good family to

  89. model your family. After most of the stories in the

  90. Bible that go into deep detail end, up being incredibly messed

  91. up. In fact, oftentimes what

  92. scripture reveals to us about the families of Bible are more

  93. cautionary, tales about what not Not to do than lessons of what

  94. to do. Maybe raising a Godly family is

  95. one of the hardest things you could ever try to accomplish.

  96. And part of the reason it's incredibly hard to have a great

  97. god-honoring family, is because your family has an enemy.

  98. I'm going to keep drilling this verse Into the Heart and Soul of

  99. this church because I want you to remember it John, 10:10.

  100. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.

  101. This is Jesus talking, but I Jesus have come that they may

  102. have life and have it to the full.

  103. In other words, your marriage has an enemy, your parenting has

  104. an enemy, your kids have an enemy.

  105. So everything that God wants to do for you, and in you, in your

  106. family, Satan is trying to tear down.

  107. He's trying to steal. He's trying to kill.

  108. He's trying to destroy. Furthermore, there are very few

  109. things on planet Earth. More powerful than a family.

  110. I'm willing to wager. that if I were to ask you, your source of

  111. your biggest pain, Your biggest heartbreak, your greatest

  112. sorrow. Chances are it has something to

  113. do with your family. Most people are not going to

  114. therapist because the co-workers were mean and they had a bad

  115. boss. It's because something happened

  116. in their family, a place that was supposed to protect them and

  117. care for them and nurture them and love them.

  118. Somehow blue them, apart. So you have these deep family

  119. wounds that you're trying to navigate and if Satan can

  120. undermine God's plan for the family, he can do an

  121. Indescribable harm to the greater world, but God has a

  122. design for the family. His intentions are incredibly

  123. clear in scripture Genesis chapter 2, but for Adam.

    Genesis 2 chapter mention

  124. No suitable. Helper was found.

  125. So, the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep.

  126. And while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and

  127. then closed up the place with flesh.

  128. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib.

  129. He had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man, and

  130. the man said this is now bone of my bones Flesh of My Flesh.

  131. She shall be called woman for. She was taken out of, man, that

  132. is why a man leaves his father and mother and is United to his

  133. wife. And they become one flesh and it

  134. is out of this Oneness relationship between A husband

  135. and a wife that children would be brought into the world.

  136. So not only is it's God's design for after the Oneness

  137. relationship that the children are brought into the world, but

  138. it was also God's design for every child to have a mother and

  139. a father. Fathers and mothers, have unique

  140. expressions of God's identity to bring to bear in the nurturing

  141. and the development of a child. They have different gifts,

  142. different skill, sets, different ways, of approaching situations.

  143. And in that tandem leadership, they're able to bring to bear a

  144. fuller picture of God's design into that child's life.

  145. This is part of the reason why we mourn so deeply, the early

  146. passing of a father or a mother Because something is Rob from

  147. that child's life. That's why there's so much pain

  148. for kids in who are navigating the pain of divorce.

  149. Now hear me today, please please hear me this weekend.

  150. I'm going to be talking to over 10,000 people, all across this

  151. region, and I need you to know that I am fully aware that there

  152. are hundreds, if not thousands of divorces represented in our

  153. church family. I want you to know that I do not

  154. know the specifics of your Particular situation.

  155. You may have had really good reasons.

  156. You may have had incredible difficulties.

  157. You may have had challenges that I can't even begin to understand

  158. and I want you to hear me say, I am not saying that God can't use

  159. or redeem. The things that have been lost

  160. or broken on your child's behalf.

  161. I just want us all to see God's design and the impacts of what

  162. happens when that design is changed.

  163. I'm not here to shame. I'm here to help.

  164. Okay, but God's design doesn't just have a design.

  165. Fine. God has an order.

  166. And our first priority is supposed to be God.

  167. We are to be God first people. So God has a design for the

  168. family, but he also has an order of how that family is to

  169. operate. And the first order, the first

  170. priority is supposed to be God, look what it says in Mark

    Mark 12 chapter mention

  171. chapter 12, love the Lord, your God with all your heart, all

  172. your soul, all your mind. and and with all your strength, in

  173. other words, your number one priority as a human being is to

  174. be a person who is exclusively seeking the will of God and the

  175. expansion of his kingdom. I need you to hear me.

  176. Say this, you can fully live out your calling from God, right

  177. there. You do not have to get married

  178. to be a great Christian. You are not going to get to

  179. heaven. And Saint Peter's going to be

  180. standing there. So did you get married?

  181. Okay, well, you'll be in the warmer section of Heaven.

  182. I mean, it's still heaven. No, I need you to hear me say

  183. this. You can be everything that God

  184. created you to be. As a single person.

  185. Marriage is not an upgrade. Like you didn't become a more

  186. spiritual person. Once you found somebody who'd

  187. put up with you And some of you thought you found somebody who

  188. would put up with you. Like I don't think I did I think

  189. I was wrong. Okay so we are okay with me

  190. taking divorce jokes. All right I just want to make

  191. sure okay, hear me the Apostle Paul who wrote most of the New

  192. Testament, guess what? Single Not only that in

  193. scripture. He says, I got to be honest with

  194. you, I wish more of you would choose to be single, so you

  195. wouldn't have to spend so much time fighting with your wife,

  196. taking care of your kids and you could fully devote yourself to

  197. making Jesus famous Second thing, I mean, this guy's a

  198. pretty big character in the Bible who was a single.

  199. I want to make sure I say his name, right?

  200. Jesus. Never got married.

  201. Not once. He was just so busy being him.

  202. And saving your soul is like, I'm not gonna bring a woman into

  203. this. I'm just gonna keep doing what

  204. I'm doing. So hear me if Jesus can fulfill

  205. all of God's calling on his life.

  206. And Paul can fully honor God with his life.

  207. It is totally acceptable for you to go.

  208. Yeah, I'm just going to be completely single and devoted to

  209. the Lord. Okay.

  210. Now there are some of you who are going to do.

  211. I need someone to do my laundry and you are going to go.

  212. I need to get a spouse hear me. Your first priority is to be to

  213. God. But if you get married, your

  214. second priority becomes your spouse.

  215. It becomes your second, most important relationship.

  216. And that is why you need to be so careful.

  217. And so selective when it comes to who you marry and in out of

  218. this marriage, comes your children and they take third

  219. place. Look what's on 27th?

  220. 1:27 says children are a gift from the Lord and they are a

  221. reward. From him.

  222. And so you're going, can I return the gift?

  223. Right? Are some of your like I like the

  224. gift that somebody else has. I like the new model that

  225. they're coming out with? I want one of those.

  226. Yeah, I hear you. I hear you.

  227. I just want you to know this. Every marriage has problems and

  228. every kid has challenges, we all have to deal with the simple

  229. impacts of that's in our hearts and in the hearts of those we

  230. loved and it doesn't matter how spiritual you are.

  231. You can still have areas of your life that are all out of whack.

  232. It doesn't matter how much you love Jesus and how spiritual you

  233. are. You still have to deal with the

  234. fact that your kids have free will?

  235. I want you to hear me? Say this.

  236. I tell our staff this all the time, I go.

  237. Look, your kids are not on staff at this church.

  238. They're just not, your kids are just kids who attend this

  239. church. And if you try to hold your kids

  240. to a higher standard because their pastors kids, you're going

  241. to blow them up because your kids are going to fart in the

  242. middle of a prayer. Just like every other kid is and

  243. your kids are going to have a bad day and they're going to

  244. have a bad attitude just like every other kid.

  245. And so let your kid be a kid who were trying to reach in this

  246. church, instead of an associate pastor.

  247. Or they're not paid to be here. In fact, they're here enough

  248. times. We might as well pay them, but

  249. functionally, you can mess up a kid.

  250. If you start holding them to a higher standard instead of

  251. letting your kid go through the Growing Pains of discovering a

  252. faith for them. Selves, our kids deserve just as

  253. much grace and love is every other kid who attends this

  254. church now, do I want to know every time?

  255. My kids screws up, you better believe it, but I don't want

  256. there to be, like, one form of punishment, because there are

  257. pastors kid and a different form of punishment.

  258. I meant if they're not, some kids are just better, behaved in

  259. public than others and some kids are nightmares when nobody's

  260. looking. And I just got to be honest with

  261. you. I would rather have my kids

  262. repeal early and often, and in my home and get it all the way

  263. out of their system than fake it, until they're out of my

  264. house and then have to deal with those ramifications.

  265. So in God's design, we see this. That our first priority is to be

  266. God, our second priority, if we choose to get married as her

  267. spouse and our third priority is our kids.

  268. The problem is, sometimes we get this out of order and sometimes

  269. it looks like this. You why?

  270. That's a problem? Well one when you do this you

  271. could end up with the wrong spouse.

  272. Because you're prioritizing them over God.

  273. I got to be in this world. You've seen this before,

  274. somebody has a great relationship with the Lord, and

  275. then they get eyes for somebody who doesn't have a relationship

  276. with the Lord. And then they violate God's

  277. principles for who they're supposed to marry to enter into

  278. a relationship with somebody that they like.

  279. And so they start worshiping this person.

  280. This person gets in the number one spot, they haven't left the

  281. faith but then all of a sudden they're married to somebody who

  282. has two different priorities. Two different ways of viewing,

  283. the world to different ways of living their life.

  284. And when you do this, Things get out of whack things, get out of

  285. whack fast. That's why the Bible tells us be

  286. careful about being unequally yoked.

  287. He's saying make sure you marry somebody who has the same

  288. priority list as you do. Now, listen to me.

  289. When you do this, check out what happens.

  290. You're putting God in a position of redeeming.

  291. What's been broken inside of your marriage?

  292. Instead of blessing? What's been surrendered in your

  293. marriage now? Listen God.

  294. Will hear me? Hear me hear me God's.

  295. Redemptive power is super stinking strong, but it is not

  296. better than his Blessing. And if you want to give your

  297. family a favor, put your family in a position that God blesses

  298. instead of God having to redeem. The second reason why this is a

  299. problem is your spouse makes a lousy God.

  300. They will let you worship them because everybody likes to be

  301. worshipped. But ultimately, your spouse

  302. becomes a very lousy God. And when you put them in that

  303. spot, you're putting them in a position to fail.

  304. And then you get mad at them because they can't provide the

  305. things that you need them to provide but they were never

  306. equipped to provide you the things that you ultimately

  307. needed because they are not a god But the issue I see the most

  308. the issue I see people struggling with the most is

  309. actually this order. Now remember I love you.

  310. So the Bible calls any order that doesn't have God first, it

  311. has a really cool word for it. The word is idolatry.

  312. In fact, the very first commandment of the Ten

  313. Commandments, for those of you who want to go old-school, is

  314. you shall have no other gods before me.

  315. God is saying, I am always in the number one spot. and if you

  316. violate that order, You end up worshipping your kids and God

  317. does not tolerate it nor does. God bless it.

  318. Furthermore, when God is not first in your life, you cannot

  319. be the spouse. You want to be the spouse.

  320. You need to be or the spouse that God created you to be.

  321. Furthermore when God is not first and you put your kids

  322. first or you put your spouse first, you cannot be the parent.

  323. You need to be the parent. They need you to be.

  324. Or the parent that God called you to be and you have

  325. effectively shut off the flow of God's blessing into the lives of

  326. those. You care about the most in that

  327. area, when your kids are before your spouse, it creates

  328. resentment in your spouse. And perhaps, just because you

  329. know, I want to make sure I get everybody getting frustrated.

  330. when you put your grandkids, Above your spouse.

  331. Oh, now here's what happens. Anytime God is not in the number

  332. one spot. What you end up doing?

  333. And I don't know if Becky dress from our Hannibal campus coin

  334. this phrase or if somebody I don't know who did it, but this

  335. is brilliant. This is what happens.

  336. Credit card parenting. This is what credit card

  337. parenting is. When you put off dealing with

  338. things and being lazy and your parenting and having the right

  339. priorities and then you end up having to pay it all back later

  340. with interest. Is there an area right now of

  341. your parenting of your marriage that you're going on.

  342. I am paying interest, I make minimum payments for years and

  343. now the bill has come due. When kids are in the first spot,

  344. all you can do is credit card parent.

  345. We end up spending more money than we should on our kids and

  346. put ourselves in troubling situations, financially.

  347. One of the biggest issues inside of marriage is how to have it

  348. navigate your money this leads to divorce and and many The

  349. circumstances or that Financial instability eventually, makes it

  350. hard for our kids to have security and increases anxiety

  351. in them. We end up spending so much to

  352. put on them and around them that we fail to make sure that we

  353. prioritize. What we put in them.

  354. Proverbs 13:20 to says a good person, leaves an inheritance

    Proverbs 13:20

  355. for their children's children. We've become so used to taking

  356. them through the aisle and getting them, everything that

  357. they want because buying it is cheaper than saying no.

  358. And then we spend ourselves into a position, or were so busy with

  359. our schedule that we have made, our kids into an idol, that we

  360. cannot actually afford to worship anymore and then

  361. eventually it all catches up to us because it's not just in how

  362. we spend our money. It's how we spend our time, we

  363. can become. So busy worshipping, our kids

  364. that we neglect, our spouse, or our relationship with God.

  365. And this robs us of a Godly relationship with their parent.

  366. And it robs us of the real spiritual power that we are

  367. going to need to navigate the challenges of trying to be a

  368. good Godly family. So many of us are so busy

  369. worshipping. Somebody other than God, that we

  370. don't have the power of God in our lives to navigate all the

  371. challenges that come our way. That's why, the very first week

  372. of this sermon series, I talked to you guys about having a

  373. vision for your family, what kind of kids do you want to

  374. raise Proverbs 22 verse 6 says, train up a child in the way he

    Proverbs 22:6

  375. should go. Even when he is old, he will not

  376. depart from it which leads to this issue.

  377. We need to be training towards Our vision but more importantly

  378. towards God's Vision. Here's what I mean by that, what

  379. kind of spouse are you training your child to become?

  380. Have you thought about that that you are training a potential

  381. future spouse for somebody? Ladies, what are all the things

  382. that your son does that you can't stand.

  383. Would you like to pass that blessing on to a unsuspecting

  384. lady? Or do you like to go out, urine

  385. spouse training mode? Today, we're going to learn how

  386. to fold socks. Okay, what kind of worker?

  387. Are you training your child to be?

  388. So they can be a stable provider for the family.

  389. Is your strategy? No work ethic no responsibility

  390. till 28 then give them a girlfriend, a wife and four kids

  391. and go figure it out. Or should we be training them?

  392. Did you hear me say this? Because it is not what you leave

  393. to them. That makes your child great.

  394. It is what you leave in them. If what you leave to them is

  395. more than what you leave in them, they will burn through all

  396. that you leave to them. But if you leave so much in

  397. them, it won't matter what you leave to them, because they will

  398. have all the tools to make their own way.

  399. So, what kind of relationship with God?

  400. Do you want your kids to have? And are you training them?

  401. There make no mistakes. Every single one of us we are

  402. already training, our kids. The question is, are we training

  403. them to be? Who God created them and called

  404. them to be? Because there is a universal

  405. parenting relationship principle.

  406. Maurice caught than taught. Your kids are learning how to

  407. treat a spouse. Because they are watching how

  408. you treat yours. They are learning what you

  409. prioritize and what you neglect. You don't have to tell them,

  410. they know. They know if your phone is more

  411. important than them, they know if your Netflix is more

  412. important than them, they know if your job is more important

  413. than them, they know if you cherish your spouse or resent

  414. your spouse, when you're in the car, they're learning how to

  415. treat them, is it okay to talk bad about dad when you're

  416. driving through McDonald's or when you speak about Dad, do you

  417. speak in uplifting? Kind encouraging, thankful

  418. tones. When you don't like the way

  419. things are shaking out in the house how you speak about their

  420. mother matters when you're divorced, I bet it so easy to

  421. get in the car because your ex stinks and you just want them to

  422. know how bad their dad is. And you forget it is their dad.

  423. and then this kid is having to choose between two people that

  424. he can't help, but love, but the no longer love and value and

  425. treat one another There's a challenge that we're going to

  426. ask you all to do. It's at all of our locations,

  427. it's a calendar challenge. We are going to sit down with

  428. your kids and you're going to work through.

  429. Where are our priorities? Where's God, where's our spouse?

  430. And where's our kids? One of the biggest gifts you can

  431. give your kids is a loving prioritize relationship with

  432. their parent. Like shut up.

  433. I'm kissing your mom for a little bit.

  434. Letting them know they can say all they want.

  435. I want them to know that. Dad loves Mom.

  436. Hey, hold on a second. I'm just going to spend five

  437. minutes talking to your mom. Go do push-ups or something.

  438. And while they get frustrated, why are you?

  439. Because I want them to know. Dad loves mom when my kids go to

  440. bed at night. I want them.

  441. Knowing mom loves dad. But I also want them to know

  442. that Dad loves God. We are already training, our

  443. kids, what's important? And the chance of your kid,

  444. becoming a professional dancer. Or professional Trumpeter.

  445. Or a professional baseball player are like. but the chance

  446. of your kid being a father, a mother needing a relationship

  447. with Jesus is really stinking High.

  448. And if we were to go, I am going to start valuing these bigger

  449. things. I love playing baseball with my

  450. kids, but I'd much rather my kid be a great dad than a great

  451. picture. I love watching my kids play

  452. basketball. I'm a horrible basketball.

  453. Coach, we lost like all of our games, but one, And you know

  454. what, okay, chances are my kid being a professional basketball

  455. player. Zero chance of my kids not

  456. having the life of singleness very high judging, by the way

  457. their behavior, they are ready to be married already and I need

  458. to train them. Okay, can I take you on a quick

  459. Journey? So I got convicted recently in

  460. my own parenting because there are two issues.

  461. I love my kids but you don't but I was navigating how to be proud

  462. of them. I'm commanded by God to love my

  463. kids. When we talk about God's love is

  464. unconditional, but pride is conditional.

  465. And I was realizing there was times I was using the word.

  466. I was proud of them when I really wasn't.

  467. And then I diluted the power of that word because you have to do

  468. something to be proud. Now, you don't have to win the

  469. basketball game, but I can be proud of your effort.

  470. I'm proud of something. And my wife gets frustrated

  471. because she doesn't like the way everybody in my house cleans up

  472. the house. And then when we start to help

  473. clean up the house, my wife is also a control freak.

  474. And she will say, just stop. Just stop, just stop.

  475. Like we'll be halfway through loading, the dishwasher, I'll

  476. just do it myself, it's just better.

  477. And so like, there's this constant fight, my wife wants

  478. our has to be cleaner. She wants us to help out and

  479. every time we help out, she just wants us to stop.

  480. So she can do it, right? You guys.

  481. Like, are you guys normal to? And so, My wife went away on a

  482. on a little girls trip. And so, I was like, okay, how do

  483. I train my boys to not be loser dads?

  484. Michael Kay. It starts tonight.

  485. Game on boys. Come here.

  486. I have an assignment for you. We are going to learn how to

  487. clean a house right now. It's a very special Mission.

  488. This Mission has one goal in mind.

  489. Make Mom's smile. Do you like it?

  490. When Mom smiles to you have a great smile, you don't want to

  491. make her not smile. Do you?

  492. Do you want to fail your mother on?

  493. What matters. Most I bring you here today

  494. because we have a nation to Cock this.

  495. This like kid you, not? It's more involved in that,

  496. okay, I'm a psycho. And I said, so before we go to

  497. bed, we are picking out our clothes.

  498. The night before, we are getting our towel and we are laying it

  499. out. We are getting our washcloth and

  500. we were laying it out because we're going to be clean hensel's

  501. before we go to bed at night. We're going to walk through the

  502. house. We're going to make sure that

  503. everything is the way it's supposed to be like, okay.

  504. You have three minutes. They get it and they got pretty

  505. decent job. And I look at them, Uncle I'm so

  506. proud of you and the beam on their face was like, yeah, I

  507. know how to clean a house. Now, mom comes home.

  508. I go Mom, watch, boys, you ready for the test.

  509. So here's what I do at night, I set out a fork, I go over to the

  510. kitchen table and I pull out some chairs.

  511. I grab something random thing out of the pantry and I leave it

  512. on the counter and take a couple blankets and I mess him up

  513. around the house. And I go boys, I'm seeing seven

  514. things. And the test begins now and mom

  515. sitting there in the boys start going around.

  516. Looking okay, this is how a chair goes back in.

  517. Now you guys are laughing but you go home and ask your kids to

  518. clean up and see what happens. All of us now it's not anywhere.

  519. Close to the way, my wife would like it done but now my wife is

  520. doing the last five percent, not the first 95%.

  521. My wife is now able to more fully engaging conversations in

  522. our house because she's not frustrated all night long

  523. because she has to keep clean after three chunky.

  524. Boys and deep in my heart, my goal is that I am raising boys

  525. that will cherish the needs of their wife.

  526. I was fine with the way the house was, it didn't bother me.

  527. I'm good. I mean, I'm not that dirty, but

  528. I'm just dirtier than her. But I want them to look at their

  529. wife and go what her standards matter to me.

  530. And I want to build to look at my boys with integrity and say

  531. I'm proud of you. We are training our kids.

  532. Now I have a really good news for you.

  533. I told you at the beginning that your marriage and your parenting

  534. has an enemy He came comes to steal and kill and destroy, but

  535. I want you to also know we have a tremendous Ally who has come

  536. to give us life and life to the full.

  537. And so while he is trying to steal things and kill things and

  538. Destroy things, Jesus is trying to come into your life and bring

  539. a full life, an abundant life if you follow his plan and part of

  540. his plan is having him first, your spouse, second your kids

  541. third, but it goes so much deeper than that, and I want to

  542. show you what it looks like. Like and one of the most

  543. familiar passages in all of scripture, this is what it looks

  544. like when Jesus is your ally and you put things in the right

  545. order. This what it says, the Lord is

  546. my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in Green

  547. Pastures, he leads me beside Quiet Waters.

  548. He refreshes my soul, he guides me along the right path for his

  549. namesake. Even though I walk through the

  550. darkest Valley, I will fear no evil for you.

  551. Are with me, your rod and your staff.

  552. They comfort me. You prepare a table before me in

  553. the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil my

  554. cup overflows, surely goodness and love will follow me all the

  555. days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

  556. forever. You have an ally and while Satan

  557. wants to steal and kill and destroy Jesus is saying, but I

  558. have a life for you. A life that is good and Filling

  559. for your family, he's saying train them and the way they

  560. should go. So when they are older they will

  561. not stray from it. No.

  562. Can I just walk you through the Highlight Reel?

  563. How many of you want your kids to grow up with the Lord as

  564. their Shepherd? And if they are they're not

  565. going to lack nothing. How many of you want to raise

  566. your kids in the Green Pastures of God and you want your family

  567. to be able to sit by side this Quiet Waters.

  568. How many you want your kids to know and your marriage to know

  569. that God refreshes their soul and will nurture and take care

  570. of them that he will guide them all.

  571. Along the right paths, keep going, how many of you want to

  572. know that when you walk through the darkest Valley, when the

  573. storms actually hit your marriage, when the tough times

  574. actually come in your parenting, that you have an ally that even

  575. in the darkest of valleys, you have nothing to fear.

  576. When they go out, and they're on their own, that they have

  577. nothing to fear because they have a promise that has rung.

  578. True for the ages that he is with them, that he will Comfort

  579. them, that you would live in a state, where your cup is over

  580. flowing, you are filled with joy and that ultimately in the wake

  581. of your life goodness and love would follow you.

  582. Follow your marriage, follow your parenting, follow your

  583. kids, follow your grandkids and eventually that your family tree

  584. would dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

  585. That is what it looks like to have an intimate personal

  586. relationship with Jesus Christ. And you cannot be the person

  587. that God created you to be. You cannot be the spouse that

  588. you want to be. You cannot be the parent that

  589. you want to be and you cannot raise the kids that you want to

  590. race. If he is not the center of your

  591. life, if you do not have an intimate, personal relationship

  592. with Jesus Christ, so please don't put it off.

  593. Remember to a time of decision, If you are here today, and you

  594. haven't started an intimate personal relationship with Jesus

  595. Christ. What I just read is the cliff

  596. notes version of what that looks like.

  597. I want you to hear me say it. You can start that relationship

  598. today. If you were to read through the

  599. pages of scripture, what you'd find out is that to begin that

  600. relationship with Jesus Christ, there's a couple things you got

  601. to get right, one, you got to realize that there's a God and

  602. that you're not him. You got to realize that Jesus

  603. died on the cross for your sins to pay a price that you couldn't

  604. pay. You got to repent of you Livin

  605. Life on your own terms and definitely and never actually

  606. saying, you know what, I want you to be in control, you

  607. created me, you made me, you have a plan and purpose for my

  608. life and then the Bible almost every time talks about people

  609. who come to, this realization become obedient in the area of

  610. baptism. And that when you become

  611. obedient in the area of baptism in that baptism, you receive the

  612. gift of the Holy Spirit. We're God stops.

  613. Working on you and he starts working in you.

  614. He takes up residence in. You, can I be incredibly

  615. practical for a second? This past month, don't raise

  616. your hand. Please don't raise your hand.

  617. Did you have a fight with your spouse or your kid if you did

  618. just keep breathing? If you didn't, just hold your

  619. breath. in that moment, where you being guided, By the Holy

  620. Spirit. Or you being Guided by your

  621. emotions. Or the words coming out of your

  622. mouth. The healing words of Jesus or

  623. the hurt of a soured heart. The Holy Spirit takes up

  624. residence. and he bears fruit in us that in all of these

  625. situations we can all we're still going to struggle with

  626. sin, but we have power to overcome So, you see the

  627. Highlight Reel of Clayton, Hensel.

  628. And I try to let you know that I'm a bit of a turd but it's

  629. worse than it than I let on. And I would say, one of my

  630. biggest aches. has there been so many times in my marriage in my

  631. relationships and even in my parenting where I have not given

  632. them a Spirit-filled father, I've not given my wife, a

  633. Spirit-filled husband, I have not given my friends, a

  634. Spirit-filled friend. And you don't even have that

  635. option. Until you're in a right

  636. relationship with Jesus. So if you have questions about

  637. what that is or what that looks like, I want to encourage you in

  638. just a few moments the people around, you are going to stay in

  639. and start singing. I'm going to hurt you to go over

  640. to the step are over by the baptistry and there's somebody

  641. there who would love an opportunity to talk with you.

  642. To the rest of you in the room. I want you to hear me.

  643. Say this. We need help in this area.

  644. We need to do better in this area.

  645. The people that God has placed in our lives, whether it's a

  646. spouse, whether it's a kid, whether it's friends, they

  647. deserve a Spirit-filled presence.

  648. They deserve a Spirit-filled, you.

  649. So, here's what I'm asking you to do.

  650. Make sure that you are or reorienting your priority list

  651. into God's priority list husband's right now.

  652. Gut check is God, first in your life?

  653. Is he a priority? If not what needs to change

  654. after that? Is your spouse a priority when

  655. needs to change and then, how does that impact your kids

  656. wives? Same thing.

  657. So, here's all. I'm asking you to do if you want

  658. to, if you care about your marriage or if you're

  659. navigating, A gating the throes of a divorce or you've been

  660. divorced and you can't stand the person.

  661. You used to be married to, I'm going to ask you to come up, get

  662. down on your knees and pray for them taking.

  663. That's my enemy, check this out. Jesus says, pray for your

  664. enemies but they're they're making my life horrible.

  665. Pray for those who persecute you.

  666. You're going, but I can't pray that prayer.

  667. Well, good news. You don't have to pray that

  668. Prayer by yourself. He will Empower you to pray that

  669. prayer. Got out how I'm going to get in

  670. the car with my kids and because of what my ex-husband keeps

  671. doing, Holy Spirit, I need your help to honor their father.

  672. Even though I can't stand him, pray for your kids.

  673. Pray for kids is marriage. Pray for your grandkids is

  674. marriage. Leave a spiritual inheritance at

  675. the steps this weekend, but you stand with me, heavenly father.

  676. Thank you so much for today. Thanks for the time.

  677. We've been able to spend together, I pray that you use

  678. these next few moments to get our lives on the right track.

  679. To put us pointed in the right direction and then give us the

  680. power to live it out and your name.

  681. I pray. Amen.

  682. To put us pointed in the right direction and then give us the

  683. power to live it out and your name.

  684. I pray. Amen.
