  1. What up Crossing family? It is so good to see you guys.

  2. I want to take just a little bit of time here on the front end

  3. and just be praying for our churches, all across this

  4. region. As we've been kind of going

  5. through some interesting, whether our kit cut campus

  6. didn't have power on Thursday and so AJ Furman, you know,

  7. moved them into the lobby, was unloading, generators it.

  8. So that way he can run fans, because they also didn't have

  9. air conditioning. He's going to preach the sermon

  10. he stepped off a Is pickup truck Rift.

  11. A six-inch hole in his pants. Preach my sermon and cowboy

  12. boots and shorts like a true redneck.

  13. God bless him there with us today and then our Jacksonville

  14. campus, doesn't have power or Internet.

  15. So they're traveling to Pike County and they're watching

  16. online. And then I think some of them

  17. are joining us from the lobby. It's just a bit of a mess.

  18. I know that we're not the only church impact and I also know

  19. that there's different people in our region who are Got a lot

  20. more than limbs that they got to figure out.

  21. So I just want to spend a little bit of time, praying on the

  22. front. It would you guys join me?

  23. God, I'm just asking that today. You'd be with all the churches

  24. in our region who are trying to point people to you.

  25. Now, that you would make a way for people who are far from you

  26. to be found in, you got them also, just asking that you be

  27. with all the people who have a lot of work, but they still have

  28. to get done to try and get their business or to get their home up

  29. and fully functioning. Gotta pray that this would be an

  30. opportunity for Christians to be the very best behavior and use

  31. this dark moment as an opportunity to be a light got.

  32. Also, just ask you beautiful, all the people who are joining

  33. us at all of our different locations and watching online

  34. God, that you would stir our hearts to in your name.

  35. I pray. Amen.

  36. Today, I'm going to be talking to you from one of the top three

  37. chapters in all of scripture. In my opinion, like, if you were

  38. doing a Mount Rushmore of best, Ders, Romans 5 is on it.

  39. I mean, you've got Romans 8, which I'm going to be talking

  40. about our own well, which I'll be doing in a couple of weeks

  41. and you've got second Corinthians chapter 5, which is

    2 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  42. a Humdinger. I mean, it's great.

  43. I don't Humdinger means, I hope that's okay.

  44. And it really is, it's a top-three.

  45. Romans 5 is a fantastic chunk of scripture.

  46. In fact, if I'm not careful, if I just read it, and you guys are

  47. getting experience that this week is, you guys are doing your

  48. devotion. It can be emotional when you

  49. read it, it just has that kind of power.

  50. And my hope is that today you will have a defining moment,

  51. take place in your life that it would draw you further along in

  52. your intimate, personal relationship, with Jesus Christ.

  53. That the trajectory of your life, would be altered that your

  54. commitment to Christ will and his mission would be deepened

  55. and your love for God would increase and before we jump all

  56. the way into that. I'm Do a specific.

  57. Shout out to those of you here at 4th Street, to those of you

  58. joining us in Macomb and Kirksville.

  59. Those of you hanging out with Crystal fever that 929.

  60. And those of you in Pike, County, and Hannibal, and Lima,

  61. and Mount Sterling and Keokuk and Monmouth and Jacksonville.

  62. But I want to say a special word to those of you who are joining

  63. us from the crossing inside. Something was happening, as I

  64. was writing this message and you guys were just on my heart and

  65. so, you know, the rest of you guys can kind of just listen in,

  66. but I just want to talk to you to those of you.

  67. Who are part of the crossing family, in are crossing inside

  68. Ministry, I want to remind you, that it is not over.

  69. Some of you who are listening to this message, who are in jail

  70. right now. One day, you are going to get

  71. out and I want you to use your time on the inside to devote

  72. yourself to the teachings of Jesus.

  73. So that you're prepared to make a difference.

  74. When you get the opportunity to live on the outside, I want you

  75. to use this season to fast forward your spiritual growth,

  76. So, that way, you will be prepared to point people to

  77. Jesus, not just on the inside but you'll be ready to

  78. transition to being a Difference Maker for him on the outside.

  79. And to those of you who are part of the crossing inside, and you

  80. are never getting out. I want you to hear me.

  81. There are so mates and those on your block who were dealing with

  82. extreme emotional, psychological, spiritual pain,

  83. and confusion. And I want you to be digging

  84. deep in God's word, so that you can be an Example to follow and

  85. you can be equipped to be their Pastor.

  86. Your reputation should be the best among your fellow inmates.

  87. And the guards I want you to give God a good name and

  88. reputation inside the prison and jail walls.

  89. And I want you to know that while you do that, as a

  90. Crossing, all across this region, we remain in your corner

  91. and we are rooting for you. And to those of you who are

  92. watching online from wherever you are watching, And for

  93. whatever reason you are watching, whether you're sick,

  94. or you're traveling with sports, or whatever it is, maybe you're

  95. just outside of our region and you haven't found a church home

  96. yet. We are so glad that you are

  97. making time for Jesus today at the very beginning of the sermon

  98. series. We kind of talked about the book

  99. of Romans and we broke it down into three big chunks.

  100. That chapters 1 through 8 are Pillars of Truth where we learn,

  101. how God can be trusted and that we can build our life.

  102. Around it. And then in chapters 9 through

  103. 11, what it looks like to trust God, when others don't, some of

  104. you feel like that's the reality you're living in your trying to

  105. follow God. But the people around, you

  106. aren't how do we do that. Chapters 9, through 11 are going

  107. to talk about it? And then chapters 12 through 16,

  108. we're going to talk about being noticeable, neighbors neighbors

  109. that make a difference that show up in ways in other people's

  110. lives to point people to Jesus. And in chapter 1 we learn that

  111. God can be trusted because his gospel True.

  112. The gospel tells us that we are all sinners.

  113. But that Jesus is a good savior. You and I are jacked up.

  114. Turn to your neighbor. Say you're jacked up.

  115. You are telling the truth. Okay, nobody, okay, nobody gets

  116. it, right, nobody has it, right? We are jacked up messed up,

  117. sinful people, but Jesus is a mighty Savior and our Salvation

  118. is not based on us, our salvation, In is based on him,

  119. that is the good news, but the good news comes after the bad

  120. news, we're jacked up. But God can uncheck yep,

  121. whatever that looks like chapter.

  122. Till we learned that God can be trusted because his patience and

  123. his kindness lead us to repentance because God has been

  124. patient and kind with us you and I must be patient and kind with

  125. others with the hopes that they too will.

  126. I'll come to repentance in other words, our strategy to helping

  127. people come and do a relationship with Jesus Christ

  128. should match. God, strategy, for helping us

  129. come into an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  130. You got to ask yourself, why would you have a different

  131. strategy than God strategy to get people to God?

  132. So as Christians, this is tough news, it's not bad news, it's

  133. tough news, you and I have to work at being patient and kind.

  134. Quick gut check the people were described you right now, what

  135. they do, this is one of the most patient and kind people I know,

  136. then you get an F for failure. Okay, we need to have God

  137. strategy. If we want to get people to God,

  138. chapter 3, God can be trusted because he is faithful.

  139. When we are not. He provided a way that we could

  140. not you and I cannot fix this. You and I cannot make things

  141. right. Therefore, we can't boast in.

  142. Ourselves about how awesome we are.

  143. We can only boast about how awesome God is because God's,

  144. the one who made away in chapter 4, we learned that God can be

  145. trusted because he justifies us through faith, then he forgives

  146. and covers our sins, and never counts our sins against us.

  147. How good is your god? Now you're ready for Romans

    Romans 5 chapter mention

  148. chapter 5. Therefore versus one since we

  149. have our one and two since we have been justified through

  150. faith, we have peace with God through our Lord.

  151. Jesus Christ through whom we have gained access by faith into

  152. this grace, in which we now stand.

  153. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

  154. Therefore, since we have been Justified, I'd Through faith.

  155. Now when, if you've come to The Crossing for a long time, you

  156. probably know this. If you haven't, we're just going

  157. to fill you in. Anytime, you read the word

  158. justified in scripture, the easiest way to understand that

  159. word is this? Excuse my penmanship?

  160. is just As if I had never sinned, if you look at all the

  161. wet word, read words, I just felt Justified doo-doo-doo-doo

  162. doo-doo-doo-doo okay. Just as if I had never sent

  163. because of Jesus death on the cross and Resurrection from the

  164. grave you and I have been Justified our slate has been

  165. wiped clean as if it never happened.

  166. Some of you, you have kids, when they come in, from a long

  167. weekend. Like, for just celebrate

  168. Memorial Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and they trashed

  169. her whole house, right? And then someone goes about your

  170. house cleaning, it all up, as if it never happened.

  171. High schoolers. When your parents said that they

  172. could trust you and you went out of town and they went out of

  173. town for a weekend because you're not the kind of person

  174. who throw party. But you threw a party and then

  175. you cleaned up as if it never happened.

  176. That is what God went about and did on your behalf when it came

  177. to your sin, he made it as if it had never happened.

  178. Now, how many of you guys are English people like, you know,

  179. you were good at English in school, not like speaking

  180. English, you know like English classes.

  181. Yeah. Because we need to pay attention

  182. to the tenses in here. I didn't figure Our we attracted

  183. the crowd of people that are challenging all.

  184. Yeah, we love English majors, and if you're an English major,

  185. I'm glad you're here. Don't email me.

  186. I don't read. Good.

  187. Okay, right, slow. I don't read fast.

  188. Okay. So if you're not an English

  189. major, you got to pay attention to the tenses in the scripture

  190. because the tenses are intense, those little joke for the Nerds,

  191. okay? Because when you read through

  192. this, what you're going to find out is that there are past tense

  193. actions that have present tense power.

  194. It's already happened. It's already taken place but it

  195. has power in my present reality. Look at what happens here.

  196. Therefore, since we have been Justified, that means I am

  197. justified because of something that has taken place.

  198. I am forgiven and I take hold of this justification by having

  199. faith in what Jesus Christ did on my behalf.

  200. You step into this reality of being justified, when you start

  201. an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ,

  202. you begin this relationship. When you really believe that God

  203. made you loved you and sent his son Jesus to make things, right.

  204. On your behalf and then you turn away from your sinful behavior

  205. of you being in charge and you start and living for yourself.

  206. And you start, or you decide to start living for Jesus, you make

  207. him the Lord of your life. He's the one who's in control.

  208. This leads you to wanting to be obedient in the area of baptism

  209. and all of the ways that Jesus calls us to live.

  210. And when you get baptized, when Your obedient area of baptism.

  211. When you are being baptized, you experienced the washing away of

  212. your sins, you model, the death burial and resurrection of Jesus

  213. Christ. You also live out the example

  214. that Jesus did when Jesus himself was baptized and you are

  215. doing what he commanded his followers to do, which was to be

  216. baptized. How can you call yourself a

  217. follower of Jesus if you're not going to follow?

  218. The commands and the teachings of Jesus, that this is just part

  219. of what it means to be a Christian.

  220. And when this happens, we become Justified and that makes us at

  221. and with this happens through faith.

  222. And we end up with at peace with God, there is no longer any War.

  223. Once we were enemies with God, now he has made peace between us

  224. and God through Jesus. And but hear me just because we

  225. are at peace does not mean we will not face discipline.

  226. Some of you might be gone. Well, if I'm at peace with God,

  227. why is there this thing that I'm having to navigate?

  228. Because God is disciplining you? Well, why is God disciplining

  229. you? Well, I'm glad you asked ready.

  230. Look what it says in Proverbs 3:11-12.

    Proverbs 3:11–12

  231. My son do not despise the Lord's.

  232. Everybody say this word? Discipline and do not resent his

  233. rebuke. Because the Lord say this next

  234. word, disciplines those, he Oh God.

  235. Disciplines you because he loves you.

  236. That's why Paris parents. You know this when you love your

  237. kid, you care about how they're going to turn out and when

  238. they're doing things that are going to make them turn out the

  239. way they shouldn't turn out. You discipline them.

  240. How many of you how many of you are?

  241. Perfect. Yeah, I saw a couple husband's

  242. trying to raise their wife's hand.

  243. She keeps telling me. She is.

  244. Yeah, but that, but it, but she's not right.

  245. That's just not how it works. So if we're not perfect, that

  246. means we're going to do things. We shouldn't do.

  247. And when we do things, we shouldn't do.

  248. God is going to discipline us? He's going to correct us.

  249. He's going to try and make us and mold us more into His Image.

  250. We are at peace with God, but we are not excused from God's

  251. discipline because God loves us. And wants what's best for us.

  252. Now as God we finds us and Moses into His Image.

  253. He does something even better than this, he keeps because keep

  254. going the text. Therefore since we have been

  255. justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord,

  256. Jesus Christ through whom we have gained access here.

  257. It is by faith again into his into this grace in which we now

  258. stand. And we boast in the hope of the

  259. glory of God. This Grace this space that Paul

  260. is referring to is this new Justified reality?

  261. It is a state of peace between us and God this grace is a room

  262. that we enter through Jesus Christ.

  263. He is our refuge, our Firm Foundation.

  264. Jesus is the door into this space of Grace here.

  265. God invites us into the intimate settings of his kingdom.

  266. How do I explain this? How many of you Have friends

  267. that you don't let in the house you meet him in the driveway.

  268. Like you see him, you see him coming down the gravel road for

  269. those of you who are country bumpkins, you you see?

  270. Okay, well, I think that's Billy's Truck.

  271. Come on, honey, Billy's here and you meet him outside.

  272. Oh, good to see you. Billy glad you're here.

  273. Oh, wish wish you could stay longer but we gotta do some

  274. stuff and they never, they don't even know what the inside of

  275. your house. Looks like they're their mailbox

  276. friends, like that will just talk at the mailbox.

  277. Then you have some people that you let come in.

  278. To the house into the like the living room.

  279. Like oh yeah you can come in God you're here.

  280. Yes you get him. Something nice to you know to

  281. drink or eat. You know you're super glad

  282. they're there but there's a small subset of people.

  283. Hang with me that you would let you use your master bathroom.

  284. But you let them walk into your house into your bedroom, where

  285. all the clothes are not put away, by the way and use your

  286. restroom. I don't have any friends that

  287. are that close. They've never been, like,

  288. Clayton Hughes the master, right?

  289. There'd always be like, nope, you can go when you go home,

  290. that's when you can go here is what here is what God is doing.

  291. He's inviting you into this space of Grace.

  292. How close do you have to be to use the Stir, bad bathroom

  293. family. There I'll be okay.

  294. This isn't in the sermon. There are four bathrooms in my

  295. house. There are four people that live

  296. in my house. All four of us, use my bathroom.

  297. I wake up in the morning because I'm a man.

  298. I go kids pooping on it on his iPad.

  299. She's in my space of Grace. Soon.

  300. As he gets done, the seat. Doesn't even get a chance to

  301. cool down. Next kid comes in And then, of

  302. course, I'll be using the restroom of my wife will come in

  303. to start doing her makeup and hair.

  304. And she's like, I cannot believe you're in here Mike.

  305. We married each other. This is ours.

  306. He has one. He has one.

  307. This is for other people. I don't know who that, but I

  308. want to use God. Invites you into the space of

  309. Grace, okay. You will not forget Romans 5 now

  310. because we have experienced this piece, this results in the big

  311. things of life being. Taken care of.

  312. All that's left are the little things.

  313. Because we are at peace with God, all that's left are little

  314. things now, I'm not saying that little things aren't real

  315. things, I'm not saying that little things aren't hard

  316. things, and I'm not saying that little things aren't hurtful

  317. things, but in the grand scheme of things, God has Justified you

  318. purified. You saved you from your sin made

  319. a place for you. In heaven to spend eternity.

  320. He solved your eternity but yes there's still some stuff that

  321. you and I are going to have to navigate here in the physical

  322. realities of life. But we have we tend to have such

  323. an upside-down view of the things of God.

  324. Here's what God saying. I've paid off your house but you

  325. still have to vacuum. Like there's still some stuff

  326. you're going to have to navigate in the realities of life and we

  327. are. So upside down.

  328. When it comes to this kind of stuff, we make the spiritual

  329. reality small and we make the physical realities big.

  330. That's why it's so hard for us to live out.

  331. God's plan and God's purpose. For our lives.

  332. We spend and save like this world is all that matters

  333. instead of God's Eternal Kingdom.

  334. We navigate stress and hardship with our eyes focused on

  335. physical realities and not the spiritual ones, but because I am

  336. at peace with God. And my in heaven, is my future

  337. home. I can be more generous.

  338. I can be more forgiving. I can be more dependent on him

  339. and less dependent on myself. Then Paul goes on and he takes

  340. us Down a pretty interesting Road.

  341. Romans chapter 3, 5 3 through 5, not only.

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  342. So but we also glory in our, if I say that word sufferings I

  343. don't make any sense, he unpacks it because we know that

  344. suffering produces perseverance. This patient endurance,

  345. perseverance produces character and character, produces

  346. everybody say this, hope and hope does not put us to shame

  347. because God's love has been poured out into our hearts

  348. through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

  349. Hear me just because we have this Firm Foundation.

  350. This is State of Grace. This Justified reality does not

  351. mean that we won't have hardships.

  352. Christians might suffer more. Not only do we have to navigate

  353. the general hardships of life, but Christians suffer because of

  354. Satan and persecution, Christians have to navigate

  355. doubts about God, and how can life be so hard if God is so

  356. good. They end up rethinking things,

  357. wrestling through spiritual and physical realities.

  358. It's not the atheist, but the Christian who has to ask, why

  359. God, why did this happen? What about all the things you

  360. promised? Why is life so hard?

  361. What about all of my unanswered prayers?

  362. Shins will supper, I want to absolve you of the idea that

  363. once you come into a relationship with Jesus Christ,

  364. life becomes easy. And that the evidence in your

  365. life that God is in your life, is that your life is pain free?

  366. I want you to be absolved of that reality to be a Christian

  367. might mean, not only do you suffer.

  368. It might mean you suffer more and he says we suppose we're

  369. supposed to Rejoice. I mean rejoicing in Hope is one

  370. thing, but rejoicing in our suffering that don't make no

  371. sense. But he says, look at what

  372. suffering does suffering produces.

  373. It produces inside of you and me, this perseverance, this

  374. patients, the ability for you and I to Bear up underneath,

  375. whatever comes along, believing that God will come through, or

  376. get them through. We're going to get more into

  377. this into Romans chapter 8 but I'm willing to wager that all

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  378. across this region at all of our different campuses and probably

  379. every single row. There are some of you who can go

  380. you've been through hard things, how many of you have suffered

  381. And how many of you can say, God got you through it, produces

  382. something in US, it writes Our Testimony, it increases, our

  383. story. Why should I rejoice in

  384. suffering while I'll tell you a couple of reasons, one Jesus

  385. suffered, the one who never sinned.

  386. Who never did anything wrong? Still suffered.

  387. So that means that well I might suffer to check this out.

  388. Gods are Jesus suffering created a path?

  389. To find an intimate personal relationship with Jesus Christ

  390. for you. And for me, maybe our suffering

  391. could do the same. What I'm saying is maybe some of

  392. you should consider staying in your difficult marriage.

  393. Some of you, when you navigate your difficult diagnosis, you

  394. should be prepared to suffer. To point people that God is

  395. still good. Even when the medical answers,

  396. aren't those of you navigating financial hardship, dealing with

  397. beaten being misunderstood, some of us should suffer while we

  398. love our enemies. Why?

  399. Because when Jesus suffered, and made a way for other people to

  400. find Jesus and how we suffer gives other people an

  401. opportunity to come to him as well.

  402. The sermon you were looking for, hang on this suffering, produces

  403. something else in us. A proven character suffering and

  404. trials reveal character much like storms, reveal the quality

  405. of the workmanship on a home, I wrote this before the storms so

  406. if your house got blown over or there's a tree limb in your

  407. living room sorry about your Builder.

  408. Okay, what happens is when we go through the trials in the

  409. hardships of life, it reveals our faith and our dependence on

  410. God you guys know this there's a difference between have you how

  411. many of you have heard marriage advice from people who've never

  412. been married? Then they cute like us.

  413. I've never I've never heard somebody so dumb right and then

  414. you get marriage of you here. Marriage advice from engaged

  415. people, we will never be like that.

  416. Like we've looked at my mom and dad and we've looked at his mom

  417. and dad and we're never gonna be that.

  418. Until he folds the towel one time wrong.

  419. And you are your mom? Okay.

  420. That's exactly how long it takes, right.

  421. And then there's people who've been married a really long time

  422. and you know the quality of that kind of advice.

  423. Like there's just different. They have a different level

  424. security. They've been married long

  425. enough, you know, when you first got married, you had that fight

  426. and you're like, oh my goodness. I think we're going to get a

  427. divorce and then now you've been married so long and you

  428. fighting, like, she's going to talk to me in a month or two.

  429. Like she's too old to date. She ain't going anywhere like

  430. we're just I'm not. Whoa, I'm not talking about me,

  431. I've just I I wouldn't do that. Okay, I've been trained.

  432. Okay, you know, you don't know how much I have to vacuum at

  433. home just to be able to have these sermon moments with you.

  434. Okay, my suffering, produces a way for you to come to Faith,

  435. okay? I got was full Laundry the other

  436. year and anyhow, I'll get okay, there's a difference.

  437. People who've been through some stuff in their marriage.

  438. Have some stuff to say, their characters been revealed and

  439. refined over time. And that's what happens in your

  440. faith. It just because you're going

  441. through the hardships of life doesn't mean your life isn't

  442. getting better or more refined more into the image of God, take

  443. the fights of the people who are just dating take the fight to

  444. those who are engaged, take the fight to those who are still on.

  445. Their Honeymoon and then look at what's happening inside of a

  446. marriage. That's been through some stuff.

  447. Which advice do you want? Who do you want counseling?

  448. You I want the people who've been through it.

  449. Notice like to sleep on the couch, the floor, and outside.

  450. Like the people have been through all the phases of

  451. marriage, I want those people to speak into it, and this

  452. suffering purifies us because it takes the things that we've

  453. been, depending, upon away, this proven character produces hope,

  454. because after you've Been through some things and you come

  455. out the other side, you have more help about getting through

  456. the things that lie ahead. Furthermore, Our Hope in the

  457. glory of Heaven becomes even more real to us as our victories

  458. increase. So does Our Hope in a god who's

  459. never once lost a battle, we have a confidence as we go

  460. through life and he says, therefore we will not be put to

  461. shame. Hear me Crossing family.

  462. We will not be put to shame. We will not be disappointed.

  463. Even though you might be mocked for your faith ridiculed for

  464. your faith, your hope is solidly based, Thinking Noah.

  465. No was told by God to build an ark and what Noah started,

  466. building the ark and everybody around and what's a narc it's

  467. about what's a boat it's something that floats on big

  468. bodies of water. Why do you need that?

  469. Because it's going to rain what's rain?

  470. Water is going to come down from heaven.

  471. It's going to fill everything around us.

  472. Day after day. Week after week, month after

  473. month, year after year, Noah was living out his hope in God, that

  474. one day, the rains were going to come and people were going to

  475. need a boat. And it looked like he was the

  476. biggest fool up until it started to rain.

  477. His Hope was not put to shame and neither will yours.

  478. Now I'm ready to preach my sermon.

  479. The next three verses in my opinion, are the best.

  480. Three verses to answer the question?

  481. How do I know that? God loves me.

  482. If you want to know how to bookmark, these three verses.

  483. If you're looking for your tattoo verse Romans, 5:8 is a is

  484. a top three tattoo verse How do I know that?

  485. God loves me. You might be going to Clayton

  486. already. Got the John 3:16 tattoo.

    John 3:16

  487. That's why God gave you two arms.

  488. Okay, two arms, two legs, two eyelids.

  489. I don't care because John 3:16 tells us that God loves us and

    John 3:16

  490. how he loves us. But these verses show us what

  491. was going on behind the scenes because it tells us about when

  492. God was loving us. Romans 5 verse 6.

    Romans 5:6

  493. You see at just the right time when we were still powerless

  494. Christ died for the everybody say that ungodly.

  495. Very rarely. Will anyone die for a righteous

  496. person though? For a good person.

  497. Someone might possibly Dare To Die.

  498. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this while we

  499. were still sinners Christ died for us.

  500. You see when we were powerless when we were weak, when we were

  501. without strength, when we were helpless, who did Christ die for

  502. he died for the ungodly. Look at how different God is

  503. from you and me, there's some of you are going.

  504. Well, I would, I would jump in front of a bus and save my wife.

  505. Good for you. There's some of you moms you

  506. were gone. Well I would jump in front of a

  507. bus for my little grandbaby. Well good for you.

  508. Very rarely will someone died for a good person or a righteous

  509. person but none of us. Not one of us would die for the

  510. ungodly. Not one of us, would take the

  511. place of those who harmed us, divorced us, abused us.

  512. Those on death row. But there was someone who was

  513. willing to die for the weak and the wicked.

  514. You see how good is our God? Our God is so good.

  515. He made the first move when we were at our worst.

  516. Our God was at his best. That's how good he is.

  517. That's why we gather. That's why we worship.

  518. That's why we praise. That's why we give that's why we

  519. invite. That's why we serve because he's

  520. just that good and you might be going.

  521. Clayton, I'm pretty good. I'm cool because you love win,

  522. everybody. Say when we love, when we love,

  523. when we love, when others love us back, we love when they do

  524. what we want them to do. We love when they care about our

  525. needs. We love when they care about our

  526. once. We love when we love after

  527. everybody say, after we love after they prove themselves

  528. worthy, we love. After a grand gesture, We love

  529. after they've made things right? We love after they prioritized

  530. us. You might be going to Clayton.

  531. I love while I would agree with you.

  532. You love while I love while. I love wild things are going.

  533. Okay, I love wild. Things are going my way.

  534. I love while they are on good behavior while they're in good

  535. standing, while they're loving us back.

  536. But do you see how good our God is that while we were still

  537. Sinners? That's when he made the move, if

  538. you want to know how good God is, is he loved you while you

  539. were still rebelling, still enemies, still running away,

  540. still pushing away, still being stingy, still being greedy,

  541. still being hateful and hurtful still lying and cheating and

  542. gossiping he loved you while you were still Till lusting still

  543. abusing still being two-faced to still being hypocritical.

  544. God, so our God loves you. How do I know he loves you that

  545. God, demonstrated his love for us in this that while we were

  546. still sinning, He sent Jesus to die on the cross.

  547. For my sins, he took my punishment made it as though I

  548. never sinned. Brought me into a Justified

  549. reality in a state of grace. That's how good our God is.

  550. God, can be trusted. because he was at his very best when you

  551. and I were at our very worst God can be trusted because you and I

  552. will not face the wrath of God, that we deserve for our sins

  553. because Jesus has already done that in my place.

  554. You see it? Just the right time.

  555. When we were still powerless. Christ died for the ungodly.

  556. Very rarely, will anyone die for a righteous person though?

  557. For a good person. Someone might possibly dare to

  558. die, but God demonstrates his own love for us in this while we

  559. were still sinners Christ died for us and I don't know how you

  560. ever get over that, we're moving to a time of decision.

  561. We serve a God who made the first move.

  562. Therefore as Christians, we need to be people who make the first

  563. move, but I want to clear some stuff up specifically to those

  564. of you who've never started an intimate personal relationship

  565. with Jesus Christ. And Jennifer nice relationship.

  566. I made all the first moves I asked her out.

  567. I held her hand, I gave her a kiss.

  568. She did not get down on one knee and asked me to marry her.

  569. She's not that stupid. The reason the reason we got

  570. married is I wore down to be honest with you that's what I

  571. and manipulation. Okay, I got sighs.

  572. Okay, there's no, what yet I'm a doll.

  573. All of the moves, her moves have always been a response to my

  574. moves. And today, if you're wanting to

  575. start an intimate personal relationship with Jesus Christ,

  576. I want you to know, you are not making the first move, God has

  577. been making all of the first moves and you are simply

  578. responding to the greatest first moves of all time.

  579. Don't believe me. Here's what I'm saying.

  580. God wanted you. And so he made the first move

  581. and he created you. The Bible says that he knit you

  582. together in your mother's womb, which means that he had a plan

  583. and a purpose for your life. Before you were you he was

  584. thinking about you and it was his thinking about you that

  585. caused him to create you. God made the first move in,

  586. making you before you drew your first breath.

  587. Before, you could speak before, you can say your first cuss

  588. word, he sent his son, Jesus to die, on the cross, to pay for

  589. the cuss word, you hadn't even said yet.

  590. That's how good he is. And before you get even show up

  591. for church and sing your first worship song before, you could

  592. raise your hand, and pray, your first prayer before you ever had

  593. any intention. To draw your heart back to him,

  594. he had already made all the moves, And somehow you show up

  595. for church. And you think to yourself, well,

  596. I got to get this figured out and I got to get this, right?

  597. And my got to stop doing this and I got a dial this back and I

  598. got to start doing this more and then I can start my relationship

  599. with Jesus, but don't you get it?

  600. While you were still Sinners, that's all he needed to know.

  601. Is that you needed him, and he had already made a way.

  602. He's not waiting for you to get things, right?

  603. He already sent his son Jesus because you couldn't get them,

  604. right? He doesn't need you to get your

  605. act together because he knows, you can't get your act together

  606. without the Holy Spirit, who he will send to, you upon your

  607. baptism where he will put in you the power.

  608. You need to accomplish the things.

  609. Has he calls you too? He's not waiting for you to get

  610. it wrong because he's already paid for it.

  611. He's not waiting for you to get it right, because he doesn't

  612. expect it. He's just waiting for you.

  613. And that's the only response you could possibly give him.

  614. Is you? Here I am all jacked up and

  615. messed up and whatever word you want to put in.

  616. And God goes. Yeah.

  617. I've been waiting for this moment.

  618. Since before I made you. and if you're here today, and you've

  619. never started an intimate personal relationship with Jesus

  620. Christ, Don't put it off. And just a few moments, there's

  621. too many people around you. Stay in and saying and some are

  622. going to come to the steps and pray.

  623. There's me somebody over by the Baptist.

  624. Who would love a chance to talk with you about what that looks

  625. like. Don't put it off.

  626. But there's some of you you're going not yet.

  627. Not today. Not now.

  628. And I just want you to know. He's still going to be waiting

  629. on you and so will this church? He's still going to be rooting

  630. for you. So this church, The only

  631. difference is going to be. How much more pain and hurt and

  632. sorrow and frustration? Are you going to experience

  633. between now and then because there's nothing that you can fix

  634. or do to get you into a better spot because the spot you need

  635. to be in to find. Jesus is the spot where you

  636. recognize your Center? Don't put it off.

  637. To those of you who already have a relationship with Jesus

  638. Christ, remember that? I like you.

  639. And you kind of like me because what I'm going to say to you

  640. now, you're like I did not see this coming.

  641. This is the part of the sermon. You're going to go.

  642. I didn't like that part. I liked the first part.

  643. But if we serve a God who made the first moves, and that means

  644. that we need to be Christians who make the first move.

  645. Have a troubled marriage. I want you to love them. while

  646. they're still being a bad spouse just like, God did Have a kid

  647. Who's acting out of pocket? I want you to love them while

  648. they're out of pocket because that's how God moved for you.

  649. Have a boss, A co-worker and employee who's giving you fits.

  650. I want you to love them while they give you fits because

  651. that's how God moved for. You have somebody who harmed you

  652. hurt you betrayed you I want you to love them while because

  653. that's how God moved for you. If we are going to be people who

  654. have been impacted by the first move of God, then we have to be

  655. people who make the first move on behalf of God.

  656. God, in other people's lives. You're like I like the first

  657. part of the sermon when it was like man, God's awesome and I

  658. can still be jacked up. But if we really love God, we

  659. should want to model what he did in our life for others.

  660. You're going to Clayton, I don't have that kind of strength.

  661. You don't need to have that kind of strength, he's your strength.

  662. Clean. I don't I don't have that kind

  663. of energy. He'll be your energy.

  664. I don't have that kind of hope he'll be the hope, but I'm going

  665. to ask you to do. If you're a Christian, is it

  666. come down here and get down on your knees and ask God to help

  667. you write a better story. A story that recognizes that

  668. while you were still a sinner Christ died for you, a story

  669. that's asking God to give you the strength to love the people

  670. around you while they're still sinning.

  671. To love until God releases you. To love until God redeems.

  672. The situation. Would you stand with me?

  673. God, my prayer in this moment. I feel like I pray all the time,

  674. but it's just because it's the prayer I want answered.

  675. Gotta I want you to do something that only you can do in this

  676. room. I want you to do something that

  677. only you can do that. Only, you can take the credit

  678. for God I'm asking you to make it incredibly clear for every

  679. person in here, exactly what it is that they are supposed to do

  680. and God that you would give them the courage and the strength to

  681. walk it out. Do something in this Church?

  682. Father, do something in me. That only you get the credit for

  683. You know my pray. Amen.

  684. You know my pray. Amen.
