  1. Oh, crossing family. Happy Easter.

  2. I love you. And would you do me a huge

  3. favor? Turn to your neighbor and say he

  4. is risen. Turn to your second favorite

  5. neighbor and say I'm glad you're here.

  6. I want to welcome those of you joining from our different

  7. locations and those of you joining online and those of you

  8. who are part of The Crossing inside.

  9. If you are new to the Crossing, we are one church that meets in

  10. 11 physical locations all across the tri-state area.

  11. We meet in jails and prisons all across this region and we gather

  12. online all across the country. I tell you this because I want

  13. you to know that you are not alone.

  14. In fact, you are surrounded by some of the very best people on

  15. planet Earth. In fact, many of them have been

  16. through a very similar situation that you've been through, but

  17. they've experienced the love of God and they've been absolutely

  18. transformed by it. In fact, that's why our church

  19. exists. We exist to help people just

  20. like you find an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus

  21. Christ. And because we believe that

  22. God's way is the best way and means that every area of your

  23. life, if it is turned over to Jesus Christ, gets better.

  24. Now, if this is your first time or your first time in a long

  25. time, or you are here every time, I want you to take

  26. advantage of the QR code on the seat in front of you.

  27. It is a great way for you to get connected to this church.

  28. Make friends if you want. It's a way for you to join us in

  29. making a difference in our communities.

  30. Or it's a place for you to get some of your questions answered.

  31. Or maybe for some of you to get some help and some hope in an

  32. area of your life that could use a little help and could use a

  33. little hope. And one of the ways that I

  34. really want to encourage you to take advantage of is joining us

  35. in taking the You Asked survey. We are going to be using this

  36. survey to put together our sermons for the next 12 months,

  37. and we would love a chance as a church to speak into the

  38. specific areas where you have questions, doubts, frustrations,

  39. and pain. For instance, next weekend we

  40. are going to be talking about forgiveness here at The

  41. Crossing. How many of you have ever done

  42. something where you needed forgiveness?

  43. Those of you who didn't raise your hand, you just lied in

  44. church. I'm guessing you could use some

  45. forgiveness now too. How many of you have ever found

  46. yourself in a spot where something's happened to you and

  47. someone's hurt you and you know deep down inside you need to

  48. forgive? But it's really, really hard to

  49. do. If you raise your hand to any of

  50. the questions I just asked, you would be a great candidate to

  51. come to church next weekend and hear what God has to say about

  52. forgiveness now. The key to any great life is the

  53. same keys to any great story. You need a character who wants

  54. something great and is willing to overcome the obstacles to

  55. achieve them. Any book that you've read, any

  56. movie that you've enjoyed, follows those basic principles.

  57. A character who wants something great, who's willing to overcome

  58. the obstacles to achieve them. And if you are wanting to have a

  59. life, a great life, that is a great story, you're going to

  60. need all three. The good news is you have breath

  61. in your lungs, you're alive, you're a character in God's big

  62. play, so at least you're 1/3 of the way there.

  63. The question becomes, do you want something great and are you

  64. willing to overcome the obstacles to get there?

  65. I think every single person deep down inside a husband and a

  66. wife, they're looking at each other.

  67. They want a great marriage, but sometimes he wants to go golfing

  68. and she wants to go to Target. And you have to figure out, can

  69. you overcome the obstacles to get there.

  70. Every mother, every father desire a meaningful relationship

  71. with their kids and then their kids turn 13.

  72. My preaching yet? Someone just got saved at this

  73. campus, right? And you're like, yeah, that's

  74. that's why we're here. We've come to all the services.

  75. We're hoping for an exorcism. Now.

  76. Kurt Vonnegut, who's an American writer he had and humorist.

  77. He had a 50 year career. He published 14 novels, 3 short

  78. story collections, 5 plays and five non fiction works.

  79. And he contends that when it comes to stories, it is the

  80. shape of the curve that matters and not their origins.

  81. The shape of the curve is what matters and not their origins,

  82. he says. You can take any story and you

  83. can plot that story on 2 axes. Here's what he basically says.

  84. He says that in the story of your life, in the story of any

  85. movie that you're going to enjoy, you have the you have the

  86. GB axis. G stands for good and B stands

  87. for You guys are smart people. In fact, that's the only kind of

  88. people we attract here at the Crossing is the Super smart

  89. ones. OK, so you have health and

  90. wealth and good fortune up here and you have bad health and

  91. poverty and sickness down there. And then he says there's another

  92. axis and that is the BE axis. B stands for beginning and E

  93. stands for man. You guys are some of the

  94. smartest people we've had at church this weekend.

  95. And he says you can take every story and you can plot it.

  96. And the shape of the curve is what matters, not their origin.

  97. So let me give you an example. One of the examples he gives is

  98. the man in a hole. Now, it doesn't have to

  99. necessarily be about a man, and it doesn't necessarily have to

  100. be about a guy falling into a hole.

  101. But you've probably seen this movie.

  102. Let's start with an above average day, because why start

  103. with the depressing person on Easter?

  104. So you got a man going through a pretty good day.

  105. He falls into a hole. And then about 10 minutes before

  106. they roll the credits in the movie, what happens?

  107. He gets out of it. You write that book, people will

  108. publish it, people will buy it and they'll read it.

  109. There's another one. This one's called Boy Meets

  110. Girl. Now, it doesn't have to be about

  111. a boy meeting a girl. It could be about a girl meeting

  112. a boy. But here's what happens.

  113. It starts. Let's say this one starts on a

  114. just a regular ordinary Midwest day.

  115. You have a boy and he meets somebody absolutely wonderful.

  116. And then he loses her. Oh no.

  117. And then about 15 minutes before the movie gets over, he finds

  118. her again. This is the hallmark business

  119. model right here. This is every movie you've ever

  120. watched on that Channel. It starts off with a girl coming

  121. back to town after being in the big city and she sees the guy

  122. who's got his own pumpkin patch in it, his own logging little

  123. company. And on the side he splits

  124. firewood and they run into each other and they haven't seen each

  125. other since high school. And he's still his hobby as he

  126. likes to ride bulls. And she starts to have feelings

  127. for him. And she goes to the the Friday

  128. night rodeo and she sees him and he gets thrown from the bowl and

  129. he lands and he he's sick and he's in the hospital and he

  130. starts to go through the recovery.

  131. And she's like she realizes how much feeling she has for him.

  132. And the next thing you know, he starts to get better and he

  133. decides he's got to go back to riding bulls.

  134. And she's like, well, I can't love you and watch you die.

  135. So I have to leave. And then they start playing the

  136. music, and then the seasons start to change and he's out

  137. chopping wood in his flannel. And his suspenders get a little

  138. tight and he pops them off and he keeps just chopping the wood.

  139. And she's looking through the window as the rain's coming down

  140. and Sarah Mclaughlin's playing in the background.

  141. And then he realizes that he loves her more than he loves the

  142. bull. And so he goes to the barn and

  143. he says, listen, I can't ride anymore.

  144. I'm in love. And then she's actually coming

  145. into the barn and she says, if you want to ride, I'll be ride

  146. or die with you. And then they roll the credits.

  147. You've watched this movie over and over and over again.

  148. If you're watching the Hallmark movie, just stop 30 seconds in,

  149. ask your husband, how does it end and save yourself the time.

  150. Now I know what you're thinking, OK, that's just for those

  151. movies. But what about, like, real

  152. movies? OK, let me give you one.

  153. See if you know it. Let's start way low.

  154. How low? Let's start with a little girl.

  155. Her mom died, her dad, he remarried an evil woman.

  156. Something like this is my story with two evil daughters and

  157. there's a ball at the prince's house.

  158. Does she get to go? Oh no.

  159. She has to help everybody else get ready.

  160. Does she sink any lower? Of course not.

  161. She's already experienced the maximum whack from life.

  162. Her mom is dead. She lives with an evil

  163. stepmother and two evil stepsisters.

  164. But then all of a sudden, a fairy godmother shows up, gives

  165. her shoes and stockings and transportation.

  166. She goes to the ball, dances with the Prince.

  167. And then what happens? Bong, bong, bong.

  168. The horses turn to mice. The the carriage turns back into

  169. a pumpkin. The clock strikes 12.

  170. But does she think as low as she's was before?

  171. Of course not. She's going to remember that

  172. dance for the rest of her life. So she just kind of plots along

  173. remembering the dance, and then all of a sudden, the Prince

  174. shows up, the glass slipper fits, and Disney made millions.

  175. And you're like, OK, OK, OK, OK what about, like, real movies?

  176. All right, let's do Spider Man. You got Peter Parker.

  177. Mom and dad are dead. And on top of all that, he's

  178. getting bullied at school. Then he's going to like some

  179. kind of science project and he gets bit by a spider.

  180. Then all of a sudden he starts to realize he's got like this

  181. tingly sense and Webster's shooting out of his wrists and

  182. he can climb walls and he goes out and he's enjoying all this.

  183. And then what happens? Oh no, Uncle Ben dies.

  184. But right before he takes his last breath, he turns to Peter

  185. Parker and he says with great power comes great.

  186. Seven of you have seen it. You're going to love the Spider

  187. Man series. It's really good.

  188. It's kind of been a big hit lately.

  189. So then he starts fighting crime and everything's going good.

  190. And then the Green Goblin comes along and uses Aunt May and Mary

  191. Jane tries to take him down but eventually defeats him.

  192. And then they made nine more movies just like it.

  193. You can plot any movie, Harry Potter, every Avenger movie.

  194. In fact, you can even plot Tiger King.

  195. Do you guys remember that one? Now, to be fair, Tiger King

  196. happens exclusively in the bottom half of this graph, and

  197. it looks like a heartbeat, OK? And in that show, you don't

  198. really know what's up or what's down.

  199. Like, there's the time where he has music videos.

  200. He ran for president and he got attacked by a tiger.

  201. I actually think that him getting attacked is part of the

  202. peak now. I don't know.

  203. I honestly don't know if Tiger King was any good or if it was

  204. just a gift from God to get us through the early stages of

  205. COVID-19. OK?

  206. In fact, over the course of this weekend, I've had people texting

  207. me, them, plotting the shows that they've been watching.

  208. It's been pretty fun. Now you name the movie, you name

  209. the book, you name the show, and it follows these principles.

  210. But I have a question. What about the greatest story

  211. that's ever been told? What about a story that's

  212. actually real? What about the story of Jesus?

  213. Does the shape of the curve matter in his story, too?

  214. Let's find out. So we begin in a place that

  215. nobody saw coming. We begin off the charts.

  216. We begin in heaven, in eternity, before the creation of time or

  217. earth, Colossians tells us in chapter one.

  218. The Son. This is Jesus is the image of

  219. the invisible God, the first born over all creation.

  220. For in him all things were created, things in heaven and on

  221. earth, visible and invisible, whether Thrones or powers or

  222. rulers or authorities. All things have been created

  223. through him and for him. He is before all things, and in

  224. him all things hold together. This is a devotional thought for

  225. you. It means that you were created

  226. by Jesus and you were created for Jesus.

  227. And when your life is found in Christ, he holds it together.

  228. And then, in A twist that people did not see coming, the Son of

  229. God makes a descent. You know this John 316 says, For

  230. God still loved the world that he gave his one and only Son to.

  231. Whoever believes in him would not perish but have eternal

  232. life. He begins by sending his Son to

  233. earth. Now, does Jesus leave the glory

  234. and splendor and majesty of eternity and heaven and arrive

  235. here in glory and honor and splendor and majesty on earth?

  236. Does he arrive in a palace where all of his needs are attended

  237. to? Does he arrive in a supreme

  238. location? Oh no, that's not at all what

  239. happens. He starts off lower than anybody

  240. thought that a God would begin. He comes all the way down here

  241. to the bottom. The Bible records in Luke

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  242. chapter 2 while they were there. This is his parents, Joseph and

  243. Mary. The time came for the baby.

  244. That's Jesus to be born. And she gave birth to her first

  245. born, a son. She wrapped him in clothes and

  246. placed him in a Manger, a feed through because there was no

  247. guest room available for them. God not only comes to earth in

  248. Jesus, he comes to the lowest of lows on earth.

  249. You think that's where it ends? Oh no, it gets worse.

  250. There's political oppression and they're trying to kill him.

  251. So him and his family have to flee, become refugees in Egypt,

  252. but eventually they're able to return to his parents hometown.

  253. The Bible says that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, in favour

  254. with both God and with men. At the age of 30, he began his

  255. public ministry. Here he preached the good news.

  256. That's the gospel of a new Kingdom.

  257. He went around and he demonstrated his power by

  258. raising the dead and giving the blind back their sight and

  259. healing the sick and the paralyzed.

  260. But along the way, there were times when people were

  261. frustrated by his teachings, would argue with his teachings,

  262. become so angry at his teachings that they would try to kill him.

  263. There are times when Jesus, his closest friends, would betray

  264. him, would abandoned him. There are other times when Jesus

  265. would go places and he had to experience doubt and he had to

  266. run into people who had a lack of faith.

  267. And then there are times where he would be with people and all

  268. they wanted was his miracles. They didn't want his message.

  269. That sounds a lot like us today. We want the power of God to show

  270. up and give us what we want in this life.

  271. But we don't want to surrender our lives to the author of life.

  272. In fact, over the course of one week, the crowd was shouting as

  273. Jesus rode a donkey down the hill into the city of Jerusalem.

  274. They were screaming at the top of their lungs.

  275. Hosanna. Hosanna.

  276. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

  277. Hosanna means save us. A crowd gathered, crying out to

  278. Jesus. Save us, save us, save us.

  279. And then five days later, the same people were shouting at the

  280. top of their lungs. Crucify him.

  281. Crucify him. And then the unthinkable

  282. happens. Jesus is arrested, beaten,

  283. flogged and put on a cross and the Son of God dies.

  284. Hebrews chapter 5 says During the days of Jesus life on earth,

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  285. he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and

  286. tears to the one who could save him from death and he was heard

  287. because of his reverent submission.

  288. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered

  289. and once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation

  290. for all who obey him. This is an exclusive claim of

  291. Christ, that he is the source for salvation for those who obey

  292. him, follow him, put their life in his hands.

  293. You might be a critical thinker and you're asking yourself,

  294. well, how did he get us salvation?

  295. How did he purchase us this salvation?

  296. Well, 2nd Corinthians 5 explains this to us, beginning in verse

  297. 14. For Christ's love compels us

  298. because we are convinced that one died for all and therefore

  299. all died. All this is from God, who

  300. reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry

  301. of reconciliation that God was reconciling the world to himself

  302. in Christ, not counting people's sins against them.

  303. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we

  304. might become the righteousness of God.

  305. Hear me? Jesus did not just suffer, he

  306. suffered more than anybody else in all of human history.

  307. He didn't just die. He died in eternal death for you

  308. and for me. He went to the depths that

  309. nobody else has ever gone. He carried the weight and the

  310. punishment for every sin, for every human, for all of human

  311. history. God spooled up the sin and he

  312. placed it on Jesus. And so Jesus carried a weight

  313. and a pain and a punishment and a death and a suffering that

  314. nobody else can understand. And then, and A twist of all

  315. twists. Just when Satan thought he had

  316. won, when no, everybody thought it was over, the earth started

  317. shaking, The ground started rattling, the guards started

  318. feigning, The angels started appearing.

  319. The stone began a rolling. And when it was done rolling, it

  320. showed that the tomb was empty and that Jesus was alive.

  321. And then He spent 40 days with His disciples before He ascended

  322. back into heaven, where He is right now at the right hand of

  323. the Father, interceding on your behalf and preparing a place for

  324. you and eternity. No wonder it's the greatest

  325. story that's ever been told, because this story is real.

  326. And the shape of this curve matters, because nobody has

  327. started as high and nobody is gone as low, and nobody has come

  328. back from the dead and saved Earth from her sins.

  329. Saved you and I from our sins. This story has produced more

  330. societal good than anything else in all of human history.

  331. It formed the backdrop for art and education and justice and

  332. hospitals and orphanages and clean drinking water and

  333. adoption agencies and recovery programs.

  334. Why? Because it's not just the

  335. greatest story that's ever been told.

  336. It's because when people come in contact with this story, it

  337. becomes part of their story, too.

  338. You might be here at one of our locations or watching online

  339. today and somebody invited you to the Crossing.

  340. The reason they invited you is because they want this to be

  341. your story as well. You might be thinking, man, this

  342. is great for the person who invited me, but I've gone way

  343. too low and I have done way too much for God to ever love me,

  344. for me to be able to start getting things right.

  345. But hear me, your salvation. The good news of the gospel of

  346. Jesus Christ is that your salvation is not based on what

  347. you have done, but it is based on what Christ has done.

  348. Remember what I mentioned in Second Corinthians chapter 5?

    2 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  349. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we

  350. might become the righteousness of God.

  351. Take your deepest, darkest moment, your deepest, darkest

  352. thought, the one that you've had that you can't let anybody know,

  353. especially the one sitting next to you.

  354. Because if they knew that those thoughts went through your head,

  355. they wouldn't want to sit by you.

  356. And I need you to know that God took that sin, that thought, and

  357. he placed it on Jesus for you. And then God took the

  358. righteousness, the perfection, the holiness, the purity that is

  359. found in Jesus and he places it on you.

  360. You might be sitting here going, yeah, I mean that's that sounds

  361. pretty decent, but I don't think that God could love me because

  362. of what I've done. Well, Ephesians chapter 3 would

    Ephesians 3 chapter mention

  363. tell you this. And I pray that you, being

  364. rooted and established in love, may have power together with all

  365. the Lord's holy people to grasp how wide and how long and how

  366. high and how deep is the love of Christ.

  367. The love of God is so wide that you can't get around it.

  368. It is so long you can't outrun it.

  369. It's so high you can't get over it, and it's so deep you can't

  370. get under it. The darkest lie from Satan is

  371. that God does not love you. And the 2nd darkest lie from

  372. Satan is that you have to earn his love.

  373. Romans chapter 5, verse 8 says, But God demonstrates his own

    Romans 5:8

  374. love for us in this that while we were still sinners, Christ

  375. died for us. Which means when you were at

  376. your worst possible moment, God was at his best on your behalf.

  377. And we have a hard time figuring out how to respond to that kind

  378. of love because all the love that we've ever experienced is

  379. primarily transactional. Let me explain.

  380. Husbands, come here for a second.

  381. Have you ever emptied the dishwasher?

  382. Raise your hand. Have you emptied it without

  383. being asked? OK, let's say you said I.

  384. You emptied it without being asked.

  385. Did you have intentions? This is how I unload the load.

  386. The dishwasher in my house. I cling stuff around, make sure

  387. she can hear me over the murder show that's already been solved,

  388. that she's watching. Then I punch in the keys real

  389. loud. Oh, hey, babe, Just me loading

  390. the dishwasher. OK, this is how bad I am.

  391. I don't like to brag, but yesterday I was trying to be

  392. helpful around the house, and so I went golfing.

  393. And then when I came home, Jennifer and the boys were out

  394. taking care of getting the golden dummy a haircut.

  395. And we've been talking about cleaning the shower with this

  396. sponge and, you know, Dawn dish soap and how we wanted to do

  397. that. And I mean, I can just be

  398. transparent with you guys. I help out around the house, OK?

  399. I don't stop, don't, don't stand, sit, sit, sit.

  400. So I got down on my hands and knees, I got a bucket of soap

  401. and water and I got that sponge out and I just hand scrubbed our

  402. bathroom. OK, it's no big deal.

  403. I'm just a good guy. I did it counter clockwise, did

  404. it counter clockwise. I was ready for Cobra Kai by the

  405. time I was done. And then if I was like a really

  406. good human being, I'd have rinsed out the sponge and I'd

  407. have rinsed out the bucket and how to put it all back away in

  408. the closet where we keep all the cleaning supplies.

  409. But if I'd have done that, Jennifer might not have known

  410. that I'd been on my hands and knees scrubbing our bathroom.

  411. So I did what any good man of God would do.

  412. I put it right in the middle of the counter, that she had just

  413. cleaned all the supplies. So when she came home, the first

  414. thing my wife said to me was, did you clean the shower?

  415. And I went, yes, I did. And I cleaned the toilet.

  416. OK, Just wanted you to know I'm a good man, OK?

  417. That's how we kind of operate. We operate in a world of

  418. transactions. But the transaction that you get

  419. with Jesus is he takes all that is wrong and gone wrong and is

  420. wrong and sinful and evil in US. And before we could even utter

  421. his name, before we could even believe in him, before you could

  422. ever have your first doubt about him, he sends his son on your

  423. behalf to rescue you. Hear me?

  424. Not at some point in time, you and I, your story is going to

  425. come to an end. The Bible says that it is

  426. appointed for man to die once and then face judgment.

  427. And at the end of your life, there are only two directions.

  428. And if you want to stand before a holy and righteous God on your

  429. own account, on your own works, which the Bible describes as

  430. filthy rags, your life will not be up and to the right.

  431. But if you have accepted and received the finished work of

  432. Christ on the cross over your life, God promises not only will

  433. He create a place for you in heaven, Not only will He write

  434. your name in the Lame's book of life, but he will give you a new

  435. life and a new heart. You see, God doesn't just bang

  436. out the dents in your quarter panel.

  437. He gives you a new quarter panel.

  438. He doesn't just fix the messed up stuff in your heart, He gives

  439. you a new heart and a new spirit.

  440. Hear me? It gets even better.

  441. If you were to look at your life right now, you might be going

  442. yeah, my life is actually doing pretty good.

  443. That's great, but it's never going to go as high as it will

  444. possibly go when Jesus Christ is in your life and guiding it and

  445. directing it. There might be some of you right

  446. now that you're going down and you can't seem to stop.

  447. I just want you to know that everybody goes through downturns

  448. in life. But when you find yourself

  449. walking through the darkest valley, I want you to know that

  450. he is with you. His rod and his staff will

  451. comfort you. He will be present in the pain

  452. with you. There might be some of you are

  453. going, but Clayton, you don't understand how dark my life has

  454. been. I just need you to know, no

  455. matter what you've been, it's never darker than when the love

  456. of our God has been gone through Christ Jesus.

  457. Hear me. I don't have to worry about my

  458. past. God's redeemed it.

  459. I don't have to worry about my sins.

  460. Jesus has forgiven it. I don't have to worry about my

  461. present because he's in it. I don't have to worry about my

  462. future because he holds it. And when I come to die, I can

  463. fear no evil, for he is with me and he has rescued me from it.

  464. What I want you to understand is that the very same power that

  465. raised Jesus from the dead is available for you for daily

  466. living today. What that means is if you're

  467. sitting here today and you're going, I'm ready to be the

  468. husband and father that my family desperately want me to

  469. be. The power that raised Christ

  470. from the dead is available for you today.

  471. If you're here and you're going, I'm ready to be the wife and the

  472. the mother that I, my family desperately needs me to be.

  473. I want you to know the power of God is available for you today.

  474. And if you are in an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus

  475. Christ, you can go through any storm.

  476. You can face any battle. You can overcome any temptation

  477. because he is with you. You see, if Jesus rose from the

  478. dead, anything is possible, which means forgiveness for your

  479. sins is possible. Eternity in heaven with God is

  480. possible. But you might be going.

  481. That's just you, Clayton. You're the preacher.

  482. Well then, don't take my word for it.

  483. Take the word of the people in your rose.

  484. Word for it crossing family. If making the decision to follow

  485. Jesus is the single greatest decision that you have ever

  486. made, can I get an uh huh? And if your biggest regret is

  487. not doing it sooner, can I get an Oh yeah, maybe uh Huhs and

  488. the oh Yeahs serve as a plea from God himself for you to turn

  489. over the pen of your life to God and let God write the rest of

  490. your story. I believe to the core of my

  491. being that God's way is the best way and you won't regret it.

  492. We're moving to a time of decision.

  493. You have a choice. You can write the rest of your

  494. story or you can let God. The problem is, you and I only

  495. have the power to write stories that begin in life and end in

  496. death. That's the only story you can

  497. write. But God can write stories that

  498. go from death to life. And your life, your spirit, is

  499. just like this pen. There's only room for one person

  500. to hold it. If I were to ask all of you guys

  501. in here to get together with the person who brought you and write

  502. a note to somebody, you'd end up in a fistfight because you can't

  503. have two people holding the pen and try and write something.

  504. And some of you right now you're trying to share the pen with

  505. God. You want to write for a little

  506. bit, and then when it falls apart, you want him to fix it

  507. and then you want to write again.

  508. But that's not how it's supposed to work.

  509. You can write your story, but it ends in death.

  510. Or you can turn your life over to him and he can write the rest

  511. of the story. You might be going.

  512. That would be great. But Clayton, I'm in a pretty

  513. tough spot. I want you to know I hear you,

  514. but I read my Bible. You know what I've noticed in

  515. the Bible? When people are at their lowest,

  516. when people are at their worst, when people are in the midst of

  517. their darkest pain or their biggest frustration, and they

  518. turn the pen of their life over to God, he begins to write a

  519. story that they never thought possible.

  520. Abraham and Isaac had fertility issues, and God came to them and

  521. said, you're going to birth an entire nation of people.

  522. He shows up at murderers and he gives them a new message.

  523. He shows up with people in the midst of trials and gives them a

  524. testimony. He shows up with people with

  525. problems and gives them the platform.

  526. I'm telling you wherever you are at, if you would just turn the

  527. pin of your life over to him and let him write the rest of your

  528. story, you would not regret it. There's some of you in here

  529. today that you know deep down inside you, you need a

  530. relationship with Jesus Christ. You used to have it and you

  531. walked away from it, or maybe you've never had it.

  532. And in just a few moments, the people in this room, some of

  533. them are going to stand and sing and some of them are going to

  534. come to the steps and pray, and you can do that.

  535. I'd encourage you to join them in that.

  536. But there's some of you that it's time for you to start

  537. asking some of the questions that you have.

  538. It's time for you to make a decision that's long overdue.

  539. And I'm going to encourage you to walk right over underneath

  540. that screen next to the Baptistry.

  541. But there's going to be some people who'd love a chance to

  542. answer some of your questions. Hear me?

  543. I don't believe that following Jesus is something we just do

  544. with our heart. I believe it's something we do

  545. with our mind as well. And if you have questions, good,

  546. ask them. If you have frustrations, good,

  547. let them out. If there's things that don't

  548. make sense, claim it. Name it.

  549. At least reveal it. Because I'll tell you, God's

  550. bigger than all of it. And if right now, in the back of

  551. your mind, you're going, man, this sounds really good.

  552. It's something I should do next week.

  553. It's something I'll do after I get through the divorce.

  554. It's something I'll after I get through the court proceedings.

  555. It's something after I get moved into the new house.

  556. It's something I'll do after I get my next job.

  557. I'll I'll do it after I handle this addiction.

  558. I'll do it after I get through this trial.

  559. I just need you to know that all of those thoughts don't come

  560. from God. If the voice in your head is

  561. saying not now, that's not Jesus.

  562. That is Satan trying to keep you from finding the love that

  563. changes everything. That is Satan trying to keep the

  564. story of your life, the pen of your life, out of the hands of

  565. the author of life. And so what's going through your

  566. mind is not now, not yet, maybe later.

  567. That is Satan waging a war over your soul.

  568. And I would encourage you, don't let him win.

  569. Jesus says come to me, all of you who are weary and heavy

  570. laden, and I will give you rest for your souls and a peace that

  571. no one can take from you. If you're here today and you

  572. need that kind of peace, don't put it off to the rest of you in

  573. here. I don't encourage you maybe even

  574. following Jesus for a while, but from time to time you've been

  575. snatching your story back from him.

  576. We got these pens that just say God's way is the best way.

  577. And maybe as we get ready to go through the next series, you

  578. need to just place this somewhere in your house or in

  579. your car to remind you not to take the pen out of his hands,

  580. but to keep it in his hands and see what story he can write.

  581. Crossing family, There's people right now.

  582. There is a spiritual war happening in their minds and I'm

  583. encourage you. Would you get down on your knees

  584. and join me in praying that God would win the war that today

  585. Satan would be silenced and a new chapter in their life would

  586. be written? Would you stand with me,

  587. Heavenly Father? I'm asking you to do a mighty

  588. work, not just in this room and not just online, but at all of

  589. our different locations. God, that you would take ground

  590. in the hearts and the lives and the futures of every person

  591. gathered. God, that this would be a

  592. turning point, a true time of decision, that many years from

  593. now people can trace the change in their story to this moment.

  594. God, I'm asking you to take ground that nobody else can take

  595. to do things that nobody else can do.

  596. So that way you receive all the glory and your name.

  597. I pray. Amen.
