  1. So good to spend today with you. I want to welcome all of our

  2. different locations, those of you watching online and those of

  3. you who are part of our Inside Family Quick report.

  4. Last week was Easter weekend. Many of you were joining me and

  5. praying for 16,000 people to come to our services and more

  6. people to hear the gospel than ever before in the history of

  7. our church. And I'm pleased to report that

  8. God heard our prayer. He did what we asked Him to do

  9. and it took place at all of our locations.

  10. I'm telling you that because listen, this is not about the

  11. crossing. This is just about the fact that

  12. God hears our prayers. And when you are praying to God

  13. about people finding a relationship with God, He is not

  14. the enemy that you are trying to convince to do the thing that

  15. you want to do. He is your greatest advocate in

  16. helping people come into an intimate personal relationship

  17. with Jesus Christ. And if you are joining us again,

  18. you came maybe for the first time or the first time in a long

  19. time on Easter weekend and you came back.

  20. You need to hear me say this. We are so very glad that you are

  21. here and we want to encourage you.

  22. Swing by the new here booth day before you leave.

  23. Today we are launching A5 week sermon series.

  24. And to be honest with you, we are launching what I believe

  25. will be the most contested season in our church is from a

  26. preaching and teaching standpoint.

  27. We're going to be spending five weeks on the family, then we're

  28. going to spend three weeks on generosity, and then we're going

  29. to spend 4 weeks on the Holy Spirit.

  30. And if you want to know where the Holy Spirit loves to attack,

  31. it is in those areas. It is in how we handle our

  32. finances, whether or not we are attuned to the Holy Spirit and

  33. what he wants us to do and how to handle things at home.

  34. And we called this sermon series Lovers and Land Mines.

  35. You picked it when you voted on the app.

  36. And the reason we called it lovers and Land Mines is because

  37. there are land mines all over our world.

  38. There's land mines emotionally, spiritually, financially,

  39. sexually. And stepping on them can be

  40. disastrous. And I know that many of you know

  41. all about that. But I believe that there is no

  42. more field populated with land mines than when two people fall

  43. in love and start a family. And this series was born out of

  44. a desire to kind of take our whole church through premarital

  45. counseling. I wish I could sit across the

  46. table from every single one of you and walk through the land

  47. mines that exist or will exist, and keep you from stepping on

  48. them. Just so you know, we have an

  49. incredible staff at all of our locations who will be a

  50. fantastic resource for you if you find yourself, as we're

  51. going through the series, needing somebody to talk through

  52. some of the land mines you may have already stepped on.

  53. And I want you to know they would love a chance to meet with

  54. you, but there might be others of you who you're in a season

  55. where you're going. I think I need a little bit more

  56. elevated help, some elevated coaching.

  57. And if you find yourself with an issue that's maybe more serious

  58. or more complicated, I want you to know that we have Vineco

  59. Counseling Company. And if you want more information

  60. about that, it is in your app. It's always down at the very

  61. bottom, but this week it'll be near the top of your For you

  62. section. And if you're going, I could

  63. probably use some coaching, some help that's a little bit more

  64. intensive than what Clayton's giving on stage or what maybe

  65. our pastors can provide. They are incredible people,

  66. people that I would trust myself to, and you should have no

  67. worries trusting yourself to them.

  68. Now additionally to that or in addition to that, right now we

  69. have a team of people here at our church working behind the

  70. scenes to roll out an even better premarital counseling

  71. program. And our plan is to certify a

  72. majority of our staff so they will be more than qualified to

  73. serve you even better in the future.

  74. We are all in here at the Crossing.

  75. We want to be in your corner. We love you, we love your

  76. family, and we want to help you learn to trust and believe that

  77. God's way is the best way in every area of your life,

  78. including how to navigate family.

  79. So let me give some disclaimers, OK?

  80. No matter what stage of life you are in, as we are going through

  81. this series, there will be challenging stuff for you if you

  82. will allow it to challenge you. You might be going to Clayton.

  83. I'm not in that season. Hear me.

  84. There will always be either a wisdom for you to apply or a

  85. wisdom for you to pass on. You will either need that tool

  86. for yourself or God will allow you to use that tool to be a

  87. blessing in somebody else's life.

  88. And there are going to be some of you as we're going through

  89. this series, that you're going to start praying for something

  90. that God will not give you. You're going to start praying

  91. for a time machine so you could go back in time and do it

  92. differently. And you need to hear me say

  93. this. God does not give time machines.

  94. How many of you wish there's some areas in your life where

  95. you had a time machine and you could just go back and not do

  96. what you did preach. God does not give us time

  97. machines, but He does give us the gift of repentance, and He

  98. promises that His mercies are new every morning.

  99. You might have dug yourself into a pretty big hole.

  100. I have a really good news for you.

  101. The Holy Spirit has a really big shovel.

  102. OK, there's this obscure passage in the book of Joel of the

  103. prophet. It's Joel chapter 2, verses 12

    Joel 2:12–14

  104. through 14. This is what He says to the

  105. people even now, declares the Lord.

  106. Return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping

  107. and mourning. Rend your heart and not your

  108. garments. In other words, do the internal

  109. work. Don't just do this big spectacle

  110. on the outside. Do something deep right here in

  111. the heart. Return to the Lord your God,

  112. because what kind of God do we serve?

  113. For He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger,

  114. and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity.

  115. Who knows, he may turn and relent and leave behind a

  116. blessing. Joel is crying out to his

  117. people. Get right with God.

  118. Do what he says. Hear me.

  119. God loves it when you turn to Him.

  120. God loves it when you turn from sin.

  121. And look what God promises to do when we do that, when we turn to

  122. Him and away from sin. Verse 25I, I will repay you for

  123. the years the locusts have eaten.

  124. In other words, God will allow you to make up for time lost.

  125. He's not going to give you a time machine, but he is saying I

  126. will redeem the wasted years. I will undo the punishment of

  127. sin. So as we get ready to go into

  128. the series, I want to kind of give you a little bit of context

  129. today. I'm it's going to be somewhat

  130. depressing. Turn to your neighbor and say

  131. depressing. OK, this is a 5 week series.

  132. This one's a little depressing. There's some good stuff in

  133. there, but you're going to feel like it's going to feel a little

  134. chicken a little, it's going to feel a little the sky is

  135. falling. OK, so let's just kind of talk

  136. through land mines. Where are all these land mines

  137. and why are there so many land mines?

  138. Well, one, Satan wants to to destroy your marriage and your

  139. family. John chapter 10, verse 10,

    John 10:10

  140. you've heard us talk about this all the time.

  141. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.

  142. In other words, your marriage and your family, and for that

  143. matter your very life, have a very real and powerful enemy.

  144. Real and powerful. Well, why does Satan attack the

  145. family? I'm going to give you at least

  146. three reasons. One, because there is no pain

  147. like family pain. There is no pain like family

  148. pain. Nothing can destroy, can destroy

  149. a faith like problems in the family. 2 Research has caught up

  150. to what the spiritual world has always known from the very

  151. beginning. A strong family is the backbone

  152. of a strong society. If Satan can destroy the family,

  153. he can destroy a society. And if he can destroy a society,

  154. then he can destroy a nation. I want to give a word of

  155. caution, slash rebuke to those of you who are like all in

  156. American patriots, and maybe you're a better American patriot

  157. than you are a Christian. Can I just issue this

  158. encouragement to you? One of the most patriotic things

  159. you can do is raise a godly family.

  160. Three, the spiritual world knows that the family is the primary

  161. way that faith is passed on to the next generation.

  162. So to those of you who are super upset at whatever generation

  163. came after you, I want to remind you, you raised them.

  164. So this might not be a them problem.

  165. This might be a you problem. OK.

  166. And I'm saying, I mean, OK, let me pause for just a second.

  167. All right, here's what you need to know.

  168. Everything we're going to do over this series is highly

  169. spiritual. And it's not just going to be

  170. this series, it's going to be the next two.

  171. And you need to know that this stuff is incredibly real.

  172. And I am not trying to step on anybody's toes.

  173. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm not trying to make you feel

  174. bad. And I have this deep concern

  175. going through the series that some of you who are not yet

  176. spiritually qualified are going to start grabbing a hold of

  177. promises that you're not ready to take a hold of.

  178. And then others of you who are more than spiritually qualified

  179. will be too passive to actually engage in them.

  180. And I have this other burden, which is as you're going through

  181. the series, you may feel, watch this, things get worse at home

  182. and you'll be going, I'm going to church and I'm listening to

  183. what he's saying and I'm in my word and things are getting

  184. worse. And at home, I'm going to tell

  185. you why, because Satan is attacking you because you are

  186. trying to go into his territory that he's already claimed and

  187. reclaim it. I'm not saying this as a martyr,

  188. but you just need to know what it looks like in my world, every

  189. time it is Christmas or Easter, I just know that someone's going

  190. to Chuck a grenade in my home. I don't know if that grenade is

  191. going to show up in my marriage or in my parenting or at work.

  192. I just know that when it means the most, there's going to be

  193. attack. Every time I do a family series,

  194. every time I do a family series, I write that series in pain in

  195. my own house. Now I've done it long enough

  196. that I know to expect it, but the reason why I tell you that

  197. you may be fighting more on your way to church.

  198. Have you ever noticed that that sometimes you get into your best

  199. fights on the way to church? Hear me, that's spiritual.

  200. If he can get you angry before you worship, you won't worship.

  201. If he can get you so upset at your spouse that you can't hear

  202. the word of God, and then he will keep you from applying the

  203. word of God and you'll walk out of church, justify that you

  204. showed up for church and they didn't, or you came to church

  205. and you came away with a really clear message from God.

  206. They're the problem. I need you to see this.

  207. You are at war with an enemy who is real and powerful and takes

  208. no days off. Satan knows that by attacking

  209. the family he can get you to abandon the faith, destroy

  210. society, and as a result the nation, and he can keep your

  211. family from finding the life changing message of Jesus.

  212. So gear up for this series. Second reason is that when you

  213. step into your marriage, what marriage does is it is an idle

  214. crusher. This is actually a good thing

  215. that God sets up in your marriage because marriage and

  216. family are one of the ways in which God sanctifies us.

  217. Sanctification is making us more like Jesus, and you thought you

  218. were pretty awesome until you got married and then your spouse

  219. told you you're not. That's because your spouse is

  220. starting to step on your idols. It is one of the blessings that

  221. God gives to us to make us more like Him.

  222. In order for us to become more like Him, the idols in our lives

  223. have to be torn down and dealt with.

  224. And dealing with idols is painful work.

  225. You see, marriage is a lot like money and power.

  226. It is a magnifier. Let me explain.

  227. Money doesn't change you, it magnifies you.

  228. If you're a greedy person and you're poor, nobody notices.

  229. If you're a greedy person of means, everyone knows.

  230. If you're a generous person with very little and you come into

  231. money, you coming into money will only magnify your impact.

  232. If you are a selfish person with almost no influence, very few

  233. people will be hurt by you. If you are a selfish person with

  234. lots of power and lots of influence, tons of people are

  235. impacted. A person who desires to serve

  236. people and bless people, when they find themselves in a

  237. position of power, their impact is magnified.

  238. Money and power do not change you, they magnify you.

  239. And the same is true in marriage.

  240. When you're single with no kids, it's hard to tell how selfish

  241. you really are because nobody cares.

  242. You just get to do you all the time, but then all of a sudden

  243. you find yourself married and you have kids and your

  244. selfishness will be on full display.

  245. Marriage magnifies you. There will be land mines

  246. littered in almost every room of your house, and the people that

  247. you love the most will step on them every single day.

  248. If you're a control freak, maybe nobody really notices at work.

  249. They don't see how deep you're crazy goes.

  250. But you get married and you have kids and boom, landmines

  251. everywhere. The problem is that in your

  252. marriage and your parenting is that these pain points

  253. associated with your sin, they're not to destroy you, but

  254. to make you more like Jesus. Your marriage and your family

  255. are tools that God uses to reveal the shortcomings in your

  256. walk with Him. When was the last time when you

  257. were dealing with an issue in your home?

  258. You went, I think God is using this to make me more like Him.

  259. I'm guessing about 0. Instead, you went, This person's

  260. crazy. It's always them.

  261. So when this happens in your home, you have two choices.

  262. You can defend your sin and get mad at your family, or you can

  263. repent of your sin and become more like Christ.

  264. And if you choose to repent of your sin and become more like

  265. Christ, you will become the person your family desperately

  266. needs. Here are three common areas

  267. where I see Satan at work in marriages and families.

  268. I'm going to go by categories, so let me talk to the single

  269. people for a second. Satan will get you to think that

  270. your identity is tied to your relationship status, that you're

  271. worth is tied to who you're with.

  272. I just need you to know, I just need you to hear me say this.

  273. Jesus was single, so was the apostle Paul.

  274. And I would say that those two people are two of the most

  275. influential people who have ever walked planet earth.

  276. So you can be one of the most impactful people on planet earth

  277. and never settle down and get married.

  278. In other words, your ability to serve God is heightened in your

  279. singleness. If God chooses to bless you with

  280. a marriage, so be it. But being single is in and of

  281. itself a blessing to those of you who don't have the gift of

  282. singleness. You're going.

  283. I need to get married. Great.

  284. Satan gets you to spend all your time trying to find the right

  285. person instead of becoming the right person.

  286. You can either spend your time looking or growing, but you

  287. can't do both. What I would encourage you to do

  288. is grow in such a way that other people come looking for you.

  289. I've heard it said by what can I go?

  290. Great single people, parents. OK, there we go.

  291. I've heard a lot of pastors say this, so I have zero clue who to

  292. attribute it to, but it's really good.

  293. It's really complicated sentence, but it's a really gold

  294. sentence. You'll think about it throughout

  295. the week. Here's the question that a bunch

  296. of pastors have posed. Are you becoming the kind of

  297. person that the kind of person you're looking for is looking

  298. for? Are you on the process of

  299. becoming the kind of person that the kind of person you're

  300. looking for is actually looking for?

  301. In other words, if you are a gift from God to your future

  302. spouse, what kind of gift are you becoming to the dating and

  303. engaged community? This is going to be my spiciest

  304. to take. I see two major landmines.

  305. Satan will get you to spend more time on the parties around your

  306. wedding than in preparation for your marriage.

  307. There's the engagement party, the wedding shower, the bachelor

  308. party, The Bachelorette party, the rehearsal party, and the

  309. reception. Tons of time and money are spent

  310. on colors, flowers, videographers, invitations, DJs,

  311. menus, and almost no time is spent developing a game plan for

  312. success in your marriage. It is like people are going out

  313. and buying a plane and never bothering to get a pilot's

  314. license and then wondering why they crashed.

  315. Here is my free advice. This is not in the Bible.

  316. Turn to your neighbor. Say this is not in the Bible.

  317. I don't want you guys putting this on anybody.

  318. Don't even put this on Jesus. This is just Clayton's advice.

  319. But it's good. You're one of the biggest

  320. challenges that couples face, especially young couples.

  321. You know, one of the number one things cited as a as a cause for

  322. divorce, money problems. Watch how crafty Satan is.

  323. I tell fathers to make this offer.

  324. Here is the budget for your wedding.

  325. Do whatever you want to do. If you want, do the wedding for

  326. $5000 and take the rest and put a down payment on your house.

  327. Or if you want, take the rest and put it in a retirement

  328. account and leave it alone. Let me give you some stats to

  329. stress you out. The average wedding last year in

  330. America was between 30 and $36,000.

  331. The average. So if you this is the first time

  332. in your life you've ever wanted to be below average.

  333. You're like, I want to get AD OK?

  334. I, I, we are not getting an A, we're getting AC minus on this.

  335. OK, Can I just walk you through it?

  336. In our region the average house is $170,000, which means if you

  337. were to put $30,000 on the down payment of your house, one,

  338. you'd save yourself from PMI which is about 100 bucks a

  339. month. Two, it would say save $200 a

  340. month or a month off of your house payment, which means

  341. that's putting 2400 or that is putting $2400 a year back in

  342. your bank account. Which means that over the life

  343. of the loan it would give you back north of $70,000.

  344. That is a 2X return and you just reduce the financial stress in

  345. your home. If you want you ready for this,

  346. don't put it on the House, put it in a retirement account and

  347. leave it alone until you're 65 and that $30,000 will give you a

  348. 53 X return and you'll retire with $1.6 million in the bank.

  349. By saying no to the dress instead of yes.

  350. I'm just telling you, I've done a lot of weddings.

  351. I've done a listen, I love being a part of people's special days.

  352. I'm doing almost 0 weddings this year.

  353. I love being a part of those special days.

  354. And I want you to know I've been in weddings in my office that

  355. were just two people and their parents, and they were

  356. beautiful. And I have been on top of a

  357. private mountain in Aspen, Co doing a wedding.

  358. I've seen the extremes. And I want you to know neither

  359. one of them is more guaranteed for success.

  360. It will have everything to do with who they become in that

  361. marriage. Spend the time on becoming who

  362. you need to be. So in other words, regardless of

  363. whether or not you overspend on the wedding, make sure you

  364. overspend on your marriage. Do intensives, read books,

  365. attend retreats, get guides to help you navigate all aspects of

  366. your marriage, whether whatever you don't talk through, whatever

  367. you don't talk through before your marriage, you will likely

  368. fight about in your marriage. Are we OK?

  369. Someone was going time machine, time machine, time machine, time

  370. machine, OK married people. Here are two landmines that I

  371. see over and over again. The 1st is that Satan gets you

  372. to think that you married the wrong person.

  373. After the wedding dress is hung in the closet, the thank you's

  374. have been sent and life starts to get normal.

  375. It starts to get hard. You shifted from pulling off a

  376. wedding to trying to pull off a marriage and there will be all

  377. kinds of problems and challenges to navigate and Satan will get

  378. you to think that they are the problem.

  379. You married the wrong person and you'll spend all your time

  380. trying to talk yourself through marrying the wrong person

  381. instead of you trying to become the right person.

  382. How often in your marriage do you go I'm the problem, own your

  383. part? Or is it always your spouse

  384. who's the problem? And just because they don't,

  385. just because they have major flaws, doesn't mean that you

  386. don't have any. Hear me?

  387. Your wedding vows were a declaration of war against your

  388. feelings. Your vows were commitments,

  389. promises about how about who you were going to be in the

  390. marriage. Remember the lines for richer or

  391. for poorer, in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow.

  392. You were saying regardless of the situation, you can count on

  393. me. My word is good, and with Christ

  394. as my example and my strength, I'm going to keep it.

  395. Imagine what would happen if that is who walked into your

  396. marriage when you got home from church today.

  397. The second area where I see Satan at work inside of

  398. marriages is that when trouble comes, he gets you to fight with

  399. the wrong weapons. Here's a couple of the weapons.

  400. When trouble comes knocking, we're going to pull out the

  401. weapon of volume. We're just going to get loud,

  402. really, really loud. And when I say it like that, it

  403. sounds stupid, but a lot of you have done it.

  404. I know what this problem needs me to yell louder.

  405. And can I just ask you, how often has that ever worked?

  406. We don't even like circle back and go, hey, has yelling really

  407. improved our marriage? Has screaming just magnified in

  408. a positive way? My parenting, Nobody can point

  409. to it. Oh, yeah.

  410. When we started yelling, things really started going the right

  411. way. We don't even evaluate whether

  412. or not the weapon we're using is the right weapon.

  413. And so guess what? Our weapon becomes a landmine.

  414. How many of you were going? Yeah, everything's going better

  415. because we just. We just made a commitment.

  416. I looked at her and I go, babe, let's yell more.

  417. Look what Proverbs 15 one says. A gentle answer turns away

  418. wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

  419. Another weapon that couples love to use when trouble shows up in

  420. their marriage that's also from Satan is the weapon of

  421. withholding. They withhold their words.

  422. They withhold their emotional connection.

  423. They withhold sex. They're choosing to starve their

  424. spouse. How many couples problems have

  425. ever been solved by silence? How many challenges have been

  426. solved by you know what, let's just stop connecting

  427. emotionally. How many problems have been

  428. solved by not having sex? Can I show you how crafty Satan

  429. is? First Corinthians Chapter 7,

    1 Corinthians 7:5

  430. verse 5 Do not deprive each other, except perhaps by mutual

  431. consent. In other words, hey, do we both

  432. want to not have sex like that would be a question.

  433. You'd have mutual consent, which I'm guessing most of you haven't

  434. had that conversation. How about we both stop so that

  435. we we can devote ourselves to prayer.

  436. This is a 2 parter babe. I'd like us to dial down the

  437. amount of sex that we have in our home so we can pray more.

  438. Said almost no Christian ever. The wives are like, oh, we're

  439. supposed to pray? Yeah, then watch this, then

  440. Satan watch, then come together again so that Satan will not

  441. tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

  442. Do you see this When you are depriving each other sexually,

  443. you are giving Satan another foothold in your life.

  444. Do you see how crazy this is? In your pain of navigating the

  445. landmines of life, Satan convinces you to use a tool that

  446. gives him more access and power in your home.

  447. To those of you who struggle with volume, this is a

  448. self-control issue. In the moment you are not able

  449. to temper yourself, calm yourself, steel yourself, and so

  450. you're prone to being angry and saying things you regret.

  451. This is a self-control issue. People who withhold is

  452. premeditated. You're trying to find a way to

  453. hurt your spouse. This is a special kind of evil

  454. because you're not trying to get even, you're trying to punish.

  455. And the sad thing is, none of us need trainings in these weapons.

  456. We are all proficient at day one.

  457. They are as natural as our flesh and our sin.

  458. When I've counseled people, this is one of the questions I asked

  459. to try and get them to get perspective.

  460. How would you feel if you saw someone doing to this this to

  461. your son or your daughter? How would you feel watching

  462. somebody yell at your daughter and fear washed across her face

  463. immediately? You see these couples go, Oh my

  464. goodness, I would want to go hold that emotion.

  465. How would you feel if somebody that you knew that you loved was

  466. being withheld from? You looked at your son or your

  467. daughter and you saw their spouse withholding from them to

  468. punish, intentionally being cruel, choosing not to serve.

  469. They are a daughter and they are a son to God our Father.

  470. Have you ever thought that the way you treat your spouse in

  471. your home is an act of worship to God?

  472. Here's the good news. Depressing part over.

  473. The good news is that Jesus offers a better way.

  474. The rest of the verse in John 1010 is this.

  475. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.

  476. But I have come that they may have life and have it to the

  477. full. That's where we get the phrase

  478. God's way is the best way. And Jesus has a plan and He has

  479. the power for you and I to live a full and abundant life.

  480. What that means is that your worst days in your marriage can

  481. be behind you and your very best days ahead.

  482. That means that your worst days of parenting may be behind you,

  483. and your best days could be ahead.

  484. Hear me? There may be land mines

  485. everywhere, but you don't have to step on them if Jesus is your

  486. guide. And when you see him through his

  487. power and his strength, you can remove them.

  488. And I hope you'll start doing that.

  489. We're moving to a time of decision.

  490. To those of you here today and watching online who don't yet

  491. have an intimate personal relationship with Jesus, I want

  492. to be very clear to you. You cannot have a godly home

  493. until Jesus is the leader of your home.

  494. And Jesus will not be the leader of your home until he is the

  495. leader of your life. You cannot avoid the land mines

  496. if Jesus is not your guide. You can't remove them if Jesus

  497. is not your strength. You cannot recognize them if he

  498. is not your wisdom. You cannot disarm them if he is

  499. not your teacher. So if you're here today and

  500. you've never started an intimate personal relationship with Jesus

  501. Christ, you are not giving your family the spouse or the father

  502. or the OR the mother that they desperately need.

  503. And so today, maybe one of the best things you could do for the

  504. future generations that will come after you as you start a

  505. path to getting right with God. And in just a few moments, the

  506. people around you are going to stand and sing and some of them

  507. are going to come to the steps and pray.

  508. And I want to encourage you to walk right over there underneath

  509. that screen next to the baptistry and go.

  510. I need to start asking some of the questions that have been

  511. holding me back to the rest of you in the room.

  512. To those of you who know Jesus, I'm going to kind of get paint

  513. with a really wide breast for just a second.

  514. Maybe not all of these are going to hit you, but some of these

  515. will hit you. Maybe just one of these will hit

  516. you. Is there something in your life

  517. right now that is being magnified that you don't want

  518. magnified anymore? The Bible clearly teaches that

  519. you reap what you sow, so maybe today, through God's help, you

  520. will stop sowing into that area. You're tired of all the anger in

  521. your house and yet you keep sowing words of hate.

  522. You keep using volume. You want your family to be warm

  523. and cozy, and yet you keep withholding.

  524. Maybe today you'd go. You know what?

  525. This is an area where I've been sowing for too long.

  526. You listen. You can sow grass and you can

  527. sow weeds, but if you sow weeds, you can't get mad at the yard.

  528. You hear me? Some of you need to go.

  529. You know what? I've been sowing into this and I

  530. need to stop. Maybe for some of you today,

  531. there's a weapon that needs to be laid down, A weapon that

  532. you've been using your whole life and you've justified it.

  533. You've justified it because of how you were raised and you've

  534. justified it because of how tough your job is and you you've

  535. done it because of how things are happening.

  536. I'm just saying if you're using the wrong weapon, things will

  537. never get better. I don't care how many excuses

  538. you wrap around it. The wrong weapon will never

  539. bring about the right conclusion.

  540. Is there a weapon that needs to be laid down?

  541. A sin that needs to be repented of?

  542. And if for some reason none of those two things apply to you,

  543. that is a scary self-righteous position for you to put yourself

  544. in, which means that you may have a hard heart spiritually.

  545. And that means that maybe you need to start repenting and

  546. going. God reveal the things in my life

  547. that I'm not doing or that I'm doing that are causing harm.

  548. And at the very least, at the very least, would you use this

  549. time to pray over your spouse and pray, pray over your kids?

  550. One of the consistent things that I do, you'll hear this in

  551. the one of the later series is I pray over my kids future spouse

  552. six days a week. I don't know who they are.

  553. They could be in this room. Pencil boys like older women.

  554. So, I mean, my boys are in junior high, you just graduated

  555. from college. Be on the lookout.

  556. They're going to have a good credit score and they want to

  557. put the money towards retirement and get married in my office.

  558. Can I just say this to you, of all the regrets I have as a

  559. father and as a grandfather, can I just tell you one of the

  560. regrets I do not have the prayers I have prayed over them.

  561. Would you use this time to do that?

  562. Would you stand with me? Heavenly Father, you've been

  563. great and gracious to us. Thank God as we go into the

  564. series, truthfully, I'm just nervous.

  565. I know that there's just a lot of landmines and there's some

  566. that people are going to step on today after the service and all

  567. throughout the week. There's me some people that are

  568. here this week and gone next week.

  569. They're just going to get blown up by stuff.

  570. But God, I'm asking that you just right now put a hedge of

  571. protection over our church during this series, Not just as

  572. the church, but and not just the body, but the individuals that

  573. are here, the guy you'd begin to do something significant and

  574. mighty in their life that would change things for the days

  575. ahead. And your name I pray.

  576. Amen.
