  1. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.

  2. We are so glad that you are in our lives and that you're with

  3. us today. And our moms are amazing in 1000

  4. different ways. I want to tell you a story about

  5. my mom. So my mom was the executive

  6. director for the Advocacy Network for Children, which is a

  7. nonprofit that helps kids who are victims of abuse.

  8. She got to do this for 18 years and got to help hundreds and

  9. hundreds of kids. But when she was 63 years young,

  10. she decided to go back to college.

  11. She went back so she could get her masters because she wanted

  12. to do more work to help parents. See, she didn't stop caring

  13. about kids. In fact, she realized that the

  14. very opposite was true, that she could help more kids in the

  15. future if she not only treated the outcomes of abuse, but

  16. targeted the source of it. And in the same way, today as we

  17. wrap up this sermon series on marriage in the family, I want

  18. to say that I'm speaking primarily to moms and dads, to

  19. husbands and wives, because your marriage is the foundation for

  20. your family and your family is the foundation for your kids,

  21. and your kids are the foundation for the future.

  22. I want to welcome all twelve of our locations, those joining

  23. online and inside. We are so glad that you're with

  24. us. And I'm so thankful to be a part

  25. of this church, and I hope you are too.

  26. That's doing everything that we can in this region to try to

  27. help people find an intimate personal relationship with Jesus

  28. Christ. He is awesome and there is power

  29. in his name. And I pray that you meet him

  30. today, if you haven't already. And if you're new here, we love

  31. it that you're with us. And we'd ask you to stop by the

  32. new Hero booth at the conclusion of the service so that we can

  33. meet you. So if you haven't been with us,

  34. we are wrapping up a sermon series called Lovers and

  35. Landmines, trying to help families in our church and in

  36. our region to navigate the difficulties that come along

  37. with life in proximity with one another.

  38. And today, in this final sermon, I'm not going to add any

  39. landmines to the list of things to avoid, to watch out for.

  40. Instead, this sermon is a call to action.

  41. Tell your neighbors. Say get ready.

  42. Tell your other neighbor he's talking to you in this message.

  43. It's a challenge for all of us to adopt A certain kind of

  44. mindset, a mindset that will successfully lead us through the

  45. minefield and on the other side, leave a legacy of faith for

  46. generations to come. Are you ready?

  47. So you're a soldier. You've got a land.

  48. You've got a field full of land mines in front of you.

  49. You've been trained how to recognize these hidden

  50. explosives. So how do you start to go

  51. through the land, through the minefield?

  52. You don't run. You know that that wouldn't be

  53. smart. You don't get distracted with

  54. other things, and you don't assume that you're safe just

  55. because nothing has exploded yet.

  56. You're always on the ready. Every step is calculated, every

  57. movement is intentional. But what is going to kill you in

  58. a man, in a in a landmine field is when you get careless, when

  59. you lose that sense of urgency and you get distracted with

  60. other things. Your actions get reckless and

  61. even your passion for making it through the minefield fades

  62. away. And what I want to suggest to

  63. you today is that the greatest threat to your family is not the

  64. land mines themselves, but it's your tendency to become passive.

  65. It's the problem of passivity. I want to paint a picture for

  66. you, but of what passivity looks like.

  67. And I'm going to do it starting with Proverbs chapter 31, one

    Proverbs 31 chapter mention

  68. and two. I'm going to read these two

  69. verses to you. And at first it might sound

  70. like, wait, what? I'm not following it, so just

  71. follow with me, OK? It says the sayings of King

  72. Lemuel, an inspired utterance his mother taught him.

  73. Listen, my son. Listen, son of my womb.

  74. Listen my son to the answer to my prayers.

  75. So why did I pick these verses to start out with?

  76. To talk about the problem of passivity in our homes, well,

  77. it's Mother's Day and we all know the incredible role that

  78. moms played in our lives. And without them, we would not

  79. be the people who we are today. But look at this verse here.

  80. If you don't know the book of Proverbs where this comes from,

  81. let me tell you a little bit about it.

  82. Proverbs is a whole book of wisdom.

  83. It's just wise saying after wise saying about how to live a godly

  84. life. And it was written by King

  85. Solomon. If you don't know about King

  86. Solomon, he was the wisest person to live because God had

  87. given him a supernatural gift of wisdom.

  88. Not only that, he was also the greatest king to ever live.

  89. He was this, he was the king after David, but in terms of the

  90. expanse of his empire, he was the most powerful king in

  91. Israel's history. So here you have the most

  92. powerful king and you have the wisest king.

  93. And he ends his book. He caps off his book on wisdom

  94. saying it all comes down to what my Mama taught me and what did

  95. his mom teach him? Started with grabbing him by the

  96. shoulders and saying Son, my son whom I love, my son whom I

  97. prayed for. Listen to me, listen to me,

  98. listen to me. Why did she have to say?

  99. Why is God saying to us? Listen, listen, listen, moms,

  100. you could preach this part of the sermon because you know that

  101. unless we really get your attention and you're going to

  102. miss it. And God knows that.

  103. Just like Tyler mentioned last week when he talked about the

  104. role of parents in the four to 14 years, he said dads are

  105. especially prone to be apathetic, to be careless, to be

  106. passive. And so God is saying listen,

  107. listen, listen. And guys, we're the ones who are

  108. most prone to be passive, aren't we?

  109. We're the ones who say I'm good, I got this.

  110. We're the ones who say I don't need to ask for directions,

  111. honey, I know we'll get there. And guys, right now, I know that

  112. you're probably sitting there thinking I'm good, my family's

  113. good. I don't need help navigating

  114. this minefield. Like I'm doing pretty good.

  115. My marriage is pretty good, my faith is pretty good.

  116. My kids, they're just fine. This isn't that big a deal.

  117. But God is grabbing us by the shoulders and he's saying, come

  118. on, listen, listen, listen. God has had you here.

  119. You've been hearing these sermon, these sermons on how you

  120. need to be a leader in your family.

  121. Let's do something about it. But King Lemuel, which is

  122. probably a nickname for King Solomon's mom.

  123. And God knows that men sometimes we're not passive in other in

  124. other areas. There are certain areas where in

  125. fact we spend too much time. And so the word of God goes on,

  126. and it says, do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on

  127. those who ruin kings. It's not for kings, Lemuel.

  128. It's not for kings to drink wine, nor for rulers to crave

  129. beer, lest they drink and forget what has been decreed and

  130. deprive all the oppressed of their rights.

  131. We're not passive sometimes in the areas where we shouldn't be.

  132. Men, are you paying more attention than to pornography,

  133. than to your wife and to your kids?

  134. And The thing is, it will SAP your strength.

  135. It will leave you no energy left to be devoted to your home.

  136. You know, the Bible doesn't say the drinking itself is wrong,

  137. although drunkenness is. But it's sure hard to be

  138. intoxicated at home and still lead and manage your family

  139. well. And it's not just these two

  140. areas where we get distracted from leading our family through

  141. the minefield. It's other things that pull our

  142. attention away and we forget what we're doing.

  143. Gaming. Are you more engaged in gaming

  144. than you are in guiding your family towards Christ?

  145. Have you made more plans for buying your next truck than you

  146. have for building your family on the foundation of God and His

  147. Word? Do you know more about your

  148. hobby than you do about your wife and kids?

  149. Listen, listen, listen. Some of these other temporary

  150. pursuits are not bad in and of themselves, but they're a

  151. secondary thing. And for some reason, we get

  152. attracted to those things instead of pouring our passion

  153. into the primary thing that God has given us and an eternally

  154. significant pursuit of raising up our kids, of preparing them

  155. for the roles that he has in the family, in the future, in the

  156. Kingdom, and in society. There's something that I want

  157. you to understand as we think about what is passivity look

  158. like? And it's this passivity isn't

  159. about your personality. It's about initiative versus

  160. inaction. You know, we're all different.

  161. Some of us are really outspoken, some of us are really quiet,

  162. some of us are extroverts, some of us are introverts, but all of

  163. us are called to be the people who are leading our homes for

  164. God. So just take some of the

  165. planning that you already do for work and direct it towards your

  166. family. Take what you already have

  167. passion about in your hobby and put it towards your home.

  168. Take whatever interest you have in your favorite sports teams

  169. and start to direct it towards your wife and your kids or your

  170. husband and your kids. Another thing about what

  171. passivity looks like is that it's a cousin to laziness and

  172. procrastination. Look at what it says in the book

  173. of Proverbs in chapter 24. It says a little sleep, a little

  174. slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will

  175. come on you like a thief, and scarcity like an armed man.

  176. Guys, how many were at Uncommon last year?

  177. If you were there, you probably remembered the first message of

  178. Uncommon. Matt Proctor came and he drove

  179. from Missouri, and with him he brought two things.

  180. He brought his lazy boy from home and he put it on one side

  181. of the stage and he brought some combat boots and he put them on

  182. the other side of the stage. And he said, men, the most

  183. dangerous position in your home, the most dangerous place there

  184. is the easy chair. So get out of the chair and put

  185. on the boots. And guys, uncommon registration

  186. for 2026 is open now. So don't be passive.

  187. Sign up today. Sign up early.

  188. Get the early bird ray. Passivity is not a sudden bomb

  189. that will destroy your family. It's a rot.

  190. It's a slow, silent killer made-up of 1000 missed

  191. opportunities. It might not be so much what

  192. you're doing, but what you're not doing.

  193. It's the accumulation of little moments when you chose comfort,

  194. you stayed in the chair, you kept the remote in your hand,

  195. you kept scrolling. You stayed out in the shed

  196. instead of choosing inconvenience, Clayton said It

  197. one of the other sermons that stuck with me.

  198. He said if you're not loving your wives and leading your

  199. family in a way that's selfless and sacrificial and painful,

  200. you're not doing it right. Passivity not only leads to

  201. destruction in the end, but it also leaves you with a bitter

  202. cup of regret that after your kids have left the home, you

  203. realized you never discipled them.

  204. You realize you never opened the Bible with them.

  205. You never told them about what Jesus did for you and what it

  206. what he means to you. You never warned them about

  207. Satan's tricks. You never prayed with them.

  208. You never asked them how you could pray for them.

  209. You never modeled forgiveness by apologizing to them.

  210. You were going to, but you said, I'm going to do it next time.

  211. Not this week. We're really busy this week.

  212. I'll get to it next week. In the fall, you said I'll do it

  213. in the spring. In the spring you said I'll do

  214. it in the summer, and you never did.

  215. Let me talk about passivity in marriages.

  216. Passivity in marriage can sometimes create conflict

  217. because one spouse, not always, but some, a lot of times is that

  218. the man is passive and the woman is dying for the guy to lead.

  219. And so then sometimes she starts to lead or she starts to nag and

  220. he doesn't like those things and it creates conflict.

  221. But other times passivity can be contagious and both spouses are

  222. guilty of it and it's leading to a marriage that merely exists.

  223. Check this out In the 1990s, family therapist and researcher

  224. Doctor John Gottman studied thousands of marriages and found

  225. out that couples who avoided discussing serious relationships

  226. problem relationship problems. They were passive in their

  227. marriage. They didn't have better

  228. marriages. Let me say it again.

  229. Those who avoided discussing serious relationship problems

  230. didn't have better marriages, but they had divorces that took

  231. longer to happen. Pay attention here, guys.

  232. Do not become a statistic. His research showed that

  233. unresolved issues in marriage don't disappear overtime.

  234. No, instead they go underground. And then they surfaced later as

  235. criticism, as contempt, as defensiveness, and as

  236. stonewalling. Couples who thought that they

  237. were keeping the peace by not addressing problems were

  238. actually creating the very conditions that would lead to

  239. future relationship breakdown. Their passivity LED them

  240. straight into the landmine. Gottman Studies demonstrator

  241. demonstrated this. Check this out.

  242. Marriages with higher conflict levels but better resolution

  243. skills were more stable than marriages where couples avoided

  244. conversations all together. Conflicts.

  245. Not bad. It can even breed closer

  246. intimacy if you have the resolution skills to be able to

  247. handle the conflict. And here's where Satan can trick

  248. us because we might think that we're doing the right thing by

  249. being patient with our spouses sin, but we're actually being

  250. passive by not addressing what needs to be addressed.

  251. There's that thing in your marriage or in your family that

  252. you can't talk about. That's passivity.

  253. And instead of using your energy to address that thing, you use

  254. your energy instead to coach everybody else in the family how

  255. not to set off mom or dad. Instead of trying to do that,

  256. use your energy to address the problem.

  257. It's like you're using your energy to avoid the landmine

  258. when you could be using your energy to remove it safely all

  259. together. Don't let passivity masquerade

  260. itself as godliness. It's good to address things in

  261. your family that need to be addressed.

  262. Remove the landmine. And here's the thing, you get to

  263. choose. We get to choose between the

  264. pain of difficult conversations because I realized that

  265. addressing some of those things are going to be uncomfortable.

  266. It's going to take maybe many conversations, late nights,

  267. maybe you got to go to counseling.

  268. Maybe it's a season of discomfort in the relationship.

  269. It'll be painful. I recognize it.

  270. We all know that's true. But do you want the pain, pain

  271. of difficult conversations now, or do you want the pain of

  272. something like divorce in the future?

  273. It's going to hurt either way. So tackle the problem now

  274. instead of a lifetime of regret and a wake of heartache later.

  275. And I bet some of you are saying, look, I've tried and

  276. it's just not working. Like I'm, I'm addressing these

  277. things, I'm bringing them up and I just feel like it's no more

  278. use. It's not working.

  279. Don't give up, continue and if you need to try it from

  280. different angles, if you need to, just committed to prayer, if

  281. you need to bring somebody in alongside you to help you

  282. navigate through it, do not give up.

  283. Now we see what passivity is like, but I want to tell you the

  284. good news today. The good news is this, that if

  285. you're a Christian, you have everything in you to not be

  286. passive because passivity is contrary to the nature of God,

  287. and therefore it's contrary to the nature of a Christian.

  288. God is not a passive God. He wasn't passive when he

  289. created the world, He wasn't passive when he developed the

  290. plan of salvation, when he sent a global flood, when he parted

  291. the red seas, and the list goes on.

  292. And Jesus, our Lord and Savior, was not passive when He came to

  293. this earth on a mission to die for our sins.

  294. There's a great line in Luke chapter 951 and it says this

  295. about Jesus. As the time approached for him

  296. to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely said out for

  297. Jerusalem. Jesus knew what awaited him in

  298. Jerusalem. It was no surprise.

  299. He knew he had land mines all around him.

  300. He was going to be betrayed. He was going to be arrested.

  301. He was going to be mocked and abused.

  302. He was going to be beaten, He was going to be crucified, and

  303. he was going to, on the cross, bear the wrath of his Father,

  304. not because of his sins, but because of all of ours.

  305. And he went anyway. He did not avoid the land mines,

  306. He was not passive to remain distant from the plan of God,

  307. but he went through it with every step calculated and depend

  308. upon God in prayer. In the Bible describes it, it

  309. says he resolutely set out. It's a more descriptive

  310. metaphor. Or in the original it says he

  311. fixed his face to go to Jerusalem and that same

  312. determination that was in Jesus. Rest in each believer in Jesus

  313. Christ. You may not realize what you are

  314. capable capable of, but I am here to tell you.

  315. In Second Timothy chapter one verse 7, it says this.

  316. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but

  317. He has given us a spirit of power and love and

  318. self-discipline. If you're a Christian, you have

  319. the Spirit of God living inside of you.

  320. And that means that even though you and I might be people who

  321. are naturally fearful and I want to avoid conflict, we might

  322. naturally be timid and not want to approach a difficult

  323. conversation. We might naturally be passive.

  324. You do not have to be ruled by your own nature if you're in

  325. Christ, because you have a new self created a new in Christ

  326. Jesus. It's the Holy Spirit's nature in

  327. you. And he can work through you and

  328. he can give you his power and his love and his

  329. self-discipline. You have his power to overcome

  330. your fear, you have His love to move you to action, and you have

  331. his self-discipline that's greater than any motivation to

  332. move you past your laziness. You may not feel like you can

  333. experience that kind of work in your life, but God is telling

  334. you, and I'm here to tell you and I'm asking you to believe

  335. that it's true and to you to lean in and to listen, listen,

  336. listen, listen to what God says is true about you.

  337. I want to read another place in Ephesians chapter 1, verses 18

    Ephesians 1:18–21

  338. through 21. It says, I pray that the eyes of

  339. your heart may be enlightened. Everybody say enlightened in

  340. order that you may know. Say you may know the hope to

  341. which He's called you, the riches of His glorious

  342. inheritance and His holy people, and say this with me, His

  343. incomparably great power for us to believe.

  344. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when

  345. he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right

  346. hand. In the heavenly realms far above

  347. all rule and authority, power and dominion, every name that is

  348. invoked, not only in this present age, but also in the one

  349. to come. This is a prayer, and it was a

  350. prayer that Paul prayed 2000 years ago, and he was praying it

  351. for some Christians who lived in a town called Ephesus that some

  352. of our friends just got to see. And he was praying it for moms

  353. and dads, for husbands and wives, young and old alike,

  354. because sometimes we as Christians, we're in this

  355. position where we don't realize who we can be and who God's

  356. called us to be in every resource that he's given us

  357. along the way. And so I'm asking you to take

  358. this prayer for yourself and to believe it.

  359. And I'm telling you as well, this is God's prayer for you.

  360. He wants every person here today that in Christ you have the

  361. power to be active in your home, you have great power to forge a

  362. new path for your family, and you have incomparably great

  363. power that's in every Christian household to create a legacy of

  364. faith for generations to come. And so today, I'm asking you to

  365. take an action step. This is a day of decision.

  366. One of the reasons why I think that we stay passive in our

  367. homes is because we don't know what to do.

  368. It's like, OK, I might feel like hey, I should do something, but

  369. what do I do? I'm going to tell you 4 things

  370. to do and right now I'm asking you to write it down.

  371. Take out your phone, take a note, take out your phone, take

  372. a picture of the screen, but do something.

  373. Don't be passive. Do something.

  374. Because if we spent the last five weeks talking about all

  375. these land mines and all the things that we want to do, but

  376. you don't take a step, then it's all for not.

  377. So here we go. 4 things. You can pick one, you can pick

  378. 4, whatever you want to do. The first thing is build

  379. yourself up spiritually. If you're trying to lead your

  380. family spiritually and you're not there yet, then just start

  381. with working on yourself. And there are all kinds of ways

  382. that you can do that by coming regularly to church, by reading

  383. the Bible. All these things, I would

  384. recommend you joining ADBS at your location, a Discovery Bible

  385. study. And the reason is because it'll

  386. give you a group of people around you where you're doing it

  387. together and you're learning together, you're learning from

  388. each other and you're holding each other accountable.

  389. And I think about a guy who, after last year's Uncommon,

  390. joined my DBS group and he came and he was very open about he

  391. wasn't where he wanted to be as a man.

  392. He wasn't where he wanted to be as a husband.

  393. He wasn't where he wanted to be as a dad.

  394. And nine months, ten months later, this guy, every aspect of

  395. his life, life has changed because of that support and

  396. because of that pursuit that he had to step out and just take

  397. one step, joining the group. Second thing, build your, build

  398. a plan for your family. Do you have a vision for your

  399. family? I mentioned Matt Proctor earlier

  400. from Uncommon last year. Do you guys remember if you were

  401. there? He has a vision for his family

  402. that was built on like an acrostic of his last name, like

  403. Proctor in each letter represented something that he

  404. wanted his family to look like. What do you want your family?

  405. You could do it that way or you could just write down what you

  406. want your family to look like in 5 to 10 years from now.

  407. Write it down and then write down a routine.

  408. If this is where you want to be in five to 10 years and you're

  409. here now, what's something that you can do on a day in, day out

  410. basis that is going to move you closer and closer to that

  411. vision? And literally again, write it

  412. down. It's like this is where we're

  413. prone to be passive. Like I'll just remember it, I'll

  414. think about it, write it down and discuss it with your spouse.

  415. Third thing is start a prayer journal.

  416. So first of all, if you need, if you don't have a journal, buy a

  417. journal. And here's what I would

  418. encourage you to do. Ask every member of your family,

  419. what's one thing that I can be praying for you about and write

  420. it in that journal. You can also take your vision

  421. that you wrote and your routine and write it in the journal.

  422. And every day, grab your journal, go to a place and spend

  423. some time praying every day. I'm telling you the

  424. accumulation, just like on the passivity side, the accumulation

  425. of little things will lead you into a landmine.

  426. The accumulation of little action steps will lead you to

  427. the realization of your vision. And the fourth thing is you can

  428. lead your family in a Discovery Bible study ADBS there in your

  429. home. So right now you can take out

  430. your app and one of the first few messages that you'll see on

  431. it is a summer family DBS. We thought, hey, we're coming

  432. out of this series. We're heading into summer.

  433. This could be a great time to equip our families and our

  434. church to do something to live out what we've been talking

  435. about. Just go there.

  436. And if you're like, hey, I don't know how to leave the DBS, you

  437. just click on the link you and it tells you, hey, if you know

  438. how to lead a go for it. If you don't know how to lead

  439. it, click here. We'll take care of the rest for

  440. you. Now, 2 tips that I want to give

  441. you as you begin an action plan. And this is super important.

  442. Number one, don't despise small beginnings.

  443. So you know, if you've never played golf before and you go

  444. out today, you don't expect to shoot par.

  445. Now probably you're like, hey, I've been golfing for 20 years

  446. and I go out today and I don't expect to shoot par.

  447. I got you. All right.

  448. Take another example. You, you've not, you've not been

  449. working out. You go out today and you go and

  450. you hit the gym, you expect to be tired, you expect to be

  451. gasping, you expect to be weak. And tomorrow you expect to be

  452. super sore. The same thing is true as you

  453. start this with your family. Look, guys, I've been in

  454. ministry for a long time and I remember the first times that I

  455. tried to start leading my family in these ways and I felt like I

  456. was a green one. I just didn't even, I'm

  457. stumbling all over myself for some reason, it's easier to

  458. preach to a bunch of people than to have a little devotion with

  459. my family. And so do not despise that.

  460. Like you're going to expect that it's going to be hard at 1st,

  461. that it's, you're going to stumble through, but keep going.

  462. And the second thing is give lots of grace.

  463. And Clayton said it before up here on the stage too.

  464. He said his most contested hour of his week is his family.

  465. DBS, right? That's the hardest part.

  466. So that's why we got to give ourselves lots of grace.

  467. Like, you're going to get upset sometimes and you're going to

  468. screw up. Give yourself lots of grace,

  469. apologize, learn from it and keep going.

  470. Your kids or your family, they're going to do things that

  471. that's going to screw up. Give them lots of grace, learn

  472. from it, and move on. If I told you right now today

  473. that in your backyard there's a landmine, what would you do?

  474. If I told you today that there's a landmine in your living room,

  475. what would you do? And what would you think about

  476. the person who knew that and did nothing about it?

  477. God has called us to be the protectors of our kids and of

  478. our homes and the providers, not only materially but spiritually.

  479. I want to review with you real quick the four purposes of the

  480. family. And you might want to write this

  481. down or take a picture of it as well so you can add it to your

  482. prayer journal if you're doing that.

  483. God has called us to be those who are preparing our kids for

  484. godliness. That they would be people who

  485. know Jesus, love Him, and follow Him and know his ways are the

  486. best ways. That we would be preparing our

  487. families and our kids for future roles in the family.

  488. That they would be set up to be the kinds of husbands, fathers,

  489. moms, and dads that they should be.

  490. That they would be prepared for future roles in the Kingdom,

  491. being part of a body of Christ that's serving and giving and

  492. connected and who is making disciples, and to be prepared to

  493. live as salt and light in this Dark World in society.

  494. Over the past five weeks we have gotten some great advice and

  495. tons of biblical wisdom about what to do and what not to do in

  496. our marriages and in our families.

  497. But today is the day of decision.

  498. I'm wondering who will get out of the chair and put on the

  499. boots. I'm wondering who's going to

  500. listen, listen, listen. I'm wondering who is going to

  501. fix their face to leave a spiritual legacy in their home.

  502. You have the incomparably great power of God in you to prevail.

  503. Will you kick Satan out of the driver's seat and take the wheel

  504. of your family? Because God is not giving us a

  505. spirit of fear and timidity, but of power and love and

  506. self-discipline. We're moving to a time of

  507. decision. I want to speak a minute aside

  508. from the family in the marriage context to you as an individual.

  509. If you are here and you do not have an intimate personal

  510. relationship with Jesus Christ, will you hear me out for just a

  511. minute? The Bible says don't put off

  512. what you can do today because you don't know what tomorrow

  513. holds. And my guess is that you're here

  514. and you've probably heard about Jesus before.

  515. You've probably heard how God loved the world so much that he

  516. sent his only Son to die for the sins of the world, for your sins

  517. and my sins, and that you can never out sin the love of God

  518. for you. He loves you so much, He wrote a

  519. book to tell you about it. He sent his son to demonstrate

  520. it. And we're here today.

  521. His Spirit is in US and He is calling you.

  522. He is orchestrated this day-to-day to say this is a day

  523. of decision. Not just a day of decision for

  524. moms and dads, for households, but a day of decision for you to

  525. stand before God and to stop running away from him.

  526. To stop putting off and being passive spiritually and putting

  527. it off and putting it off and putting it off.

  528. And I know you're probably saying, but that's not me.

  529. I don't know that I can become that person.

  530. It's just not who I've been and people don't know me to be that

  531. way. Guess what?

  532. Me too. And guess what?

  533. Every person who's ever followed Jesus Christ before has that

  534. story. And here's the beauty of the

  535. gospel is that you can't do it yourself.

  536. But when you relinquish yourself to Him, would you lay down your

  537. life? When you put your faith in Jesus

  538. Christ, He does it for you. He washes your sins away for

  539. you. He gives you a new life and a

  540. new purpose and a hope. He does it for you.

  541. He gives you His own Spirit inside of you to replace your

  542. own so that He can do it for you.

  543. But you have to receive the gift of salvation in the way that He

  544. calls us to receive that gift. He says repent and be baptized

  545. for the forgiveness of your sins, and you'll receive the

  546. gift of the Holy Spirit. Put your faith in me and your

  547. life will be built on a rock that will never be shaken.

  548. In just a minute, people are going to come to the steps and

  549. pray as we sing the next song. And I want to encourage you, if

  550. that's you and if you're ready to stop being passive

  551. spiritually, but to receive God and to step into what he has for

  552. you. There's somebody who's going to

  553. be right over there underneath the screen by the baptistry.

  554. And you can go talk to them and tell them, hey, I'm looking

  555. forward to what this looks like for me.

  556. And they'll guide you through it.

  557. And we will celebrate with you, and we'll be in your corner, and

  558. we'll be armed from in arm with you as you journey that through.

  559. And for those of us who are Christians, what do you need to

  560. do that you have not been doing? What are areas where you've been

  561. passive, lazy, procrastinating? Maybe it's just in your own

  562. personal life, maybe not just your home.

  563. That too. But maybe in other ways, God's

  564. been calling you to do things. He's been pulling on you for

  565. this or for that, and you keep just ignoring, ignoring,

  566. ignoring. Today's a day of decision.

  567. Today is a day where you can come and say, God, give me the

  568. strength and the power and the love and the self-discipline to

  569. stop putting you off and to start doing what you're calling

  570. me to do. Or maybe there are things you're

  571. doing that you need to stop doing.

  572. God will give you the strength. As you come this morning, repent

  573. and say, God, I believe that you can do it for me.

  574. My eyes are open to know the power that you have to work in

  575. me. So God, I'm just trusting you

  576. that you're going to do it. And mom's, it's Mother's Day.

  577. I know that this can be a hard day for you.

  578. Maybe you wanted to have kids and you didn't.

  579. Maybe you lost a child or maybe you'll you lost a mom and that

  580. could be the same for all of us. Maybe mom's not here today.

  581. So this is a time to step into that tender moment as well, that

  582. broken moment as well, and give that to God.

  583. Bring it to him this morning. Maybe you want to circle around

  584. your mom or your wife and pray for her this morning and thank

  585. her and bless her and ask for God to bless your family.

  586. Why don't we stand as we pray? Father God, I am praying that

  587. what it says in the Bible, where it says the Kingdom of God is

  588. not a matter of talk, but of power.

  589. And God, that's what I'm asking you would unleash among us is a

  590. real work of your Kingdom, not where we just talk the talk, but

  591. where we walk in, where we live it out in our day-to-day lives,

  592. God. And we're all in different spots

  593. and we all have different steps to take.

  594. But I pray, God, that nobody here would remain where they

  595. are, but that everybody would have some sort of work in their

  596. lives that you would do by your grace and power.

  597. And in the mighty name of Jesus, I pray.

  598. Amen.
