Hi, this is John O'Zanting, lead pastor of Evolve Church, and this is the Evolve Church Podcast.
-
Thanks so much for tuning in.
-
We hope that you find today's message encouraging and full of hope for wherever you're at.
-
Well, hey, Evolve Fam.
-
Listen, to all the kids that are in the room, first of all, I want to say hi.
-
I really miss you.
-
And if you're in the room with mom and dad right now and you're hearing this and you hear my voice, I just want to look through this camera and tell all of our amazing littles, middles, and bigs that I sure miss seeing you on Sundays.
-
This week, um, in our Evolve Family Fun Facebook group, we posted a brand new craft, which we're gonna be doing lots of this month.
-
And I want to encourage all the parents right now, you could even just hit pause on this live broadcast and uh just get your kids settled with their littles or middles or bigs lesson and the videos and uh um get them settled um and then grab your notebook and your pen.
-
And I also just want to say a quick shout out to all the teenagers in the room, 13 years old and up.
-
I want you in the room today.
-
I want you right there with mom and dad.
-
And if you're feeling like you want to just get out and do something else right now, I would love it if you could just like take the next half hour and just chill on the couch with mom and dad as your pastor.
-
Um, I want you to hear part five of Uncommon.
-
I want I want you to hear this message.
-
I want you to be in the room for this today.
-
I want it to create some conversation at home.
-
It might even be uncomfortable or awkward conversation, but I want it to create conversation with you and your parents or your parents in your own home.
-
So stick around, join us for this message, and uh we're gonna be digging into uncommon part five.
-
Here it is.
-
It's happening, people.
-
And guess what?
-
I want to promise you right now, you just heard us talking about uncommon part six next week.
-
Be in the room for Pastor Nicole and I as we co-teach uh the sixth part of this series.
-
But I want to ask permission for something before I start today.
-
To everybody watching, this might sound a little weird, but can I be your dad today?
-
Can I put my dad hat on?
-
And some of the language we've used in the last two and a half years since Evolve first came to life in the city of Edmonton is that Nicole and I, as your pastors, there's a spiritual authority on our lives to be like a spiritual mom and dad of this house that we call Evolve.
-
And so if Evolve is home, or if you're even wondering, could this place be my home?
-
Do I belong here?
-
I just want to ask for your permission today.
-
Would you let me um, would you let me be your spiritual dad today?
-
And if you're uncomfortable with that, I can't force that on you, but it's from that heart and that posture that I want to share part five, uncommon purity.
-
Not as your friend, not as your pal, not as your boss, not as your leader, but as your dad, as as your pastor, as your spiritual dad in this house.
-
And let's pray as we get going today.
-
Hopefully the kids are settled, your teenagers are in the room with you.
-
And would you just close your eyes right where you are and open up your hearts as we say, Father, uh, we do that right now.
-
We we open up our hearts to you today.
-
We know that living according to your plan for us, living according to your will, is so, so much better than anything else.
-
We want to live with wisdom.
-
And so today we we stand here before you, every single one of us, God, and we just we cry out as your sons and daughters, would you make us wiser?
-
From the youngest of us watching to the oldest, would you make us a little bit wiser today?
-
Would you fill us again in a fresh way with your Holy Spirit today, so that we can know you and serve you and love you fully.
-
And Father, we just say that all that we are, all that we have, all that we long to be, we lay it at your feet right now, Jesus.
-
In your name we pray.
-
Amen.
-
Amen.
-
I spent some uh quiet time praying earlier this week, and in that prayer time, um, this doesn't happen to me all the time, but every now and then, just the whisper of God's Spirit on the inside of me nudged me to reading something specific in the Bible.
-
And in reading it, I knew it was for our house.
-
I knew it was for us, and I knew it was for today.
-
And so this message is called uncommon purity, and I want you uh just to read the words along with me on the screen as I read from 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, the first eight verses, and here's what it says.
1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention
-
And now, beloved brothers and sisters, since you have been mentored by us with respect to living for God and pleasing him, I appeal to you in the name of the Lord Jesus, not in the name of Evolve, not in my name, not in any not in any other name except Jesus' name.
-
I appeal to you with this request.
-
Keep faithfully growing through our teachings, even more and more.
-
And isn't what that uncommon this uncommon series has been all about?
-
It's about all of us continuing to grow together more and more.
-
For you already know the instructions that we've shared with you through the Lord Jesus.
-
Verse 3 God's will is for you to be set apart for Him in holiness, and that you keep yourselves unpolluted from sexual defilement.
-
Yes, each of you must guard your sexual purity with holiness and dignity, not yielding to lustful passions like those who don't know God.
-
Never take selfish advantage of a brother or sister in this matter, for we've already told you and solemnly warned you that the Lord is the avenger in all these things.
-
Listen, verse 7, for God's call on our lives is not to a life of compromise and perversion, but to a life surrounded in holiness.
-
Hey, you you've been called by God to a life surrounded in holiness.
-
Therefore, whoever rejects this instruction isn't rejecting human authority, but God Himself, who gives us His precious gift, His spirit of holiness.
-
Verse 7 and 8 again, because I just think it's so beautiful.
-
God's call on our lives is not to a life of compromise and perversion, but to a life surrounded in holiness.
-
And then verse 8 says, God Himself, who gives us, and I want you to know, gives us is a present tense translation.
-
Right here, right now, right in this moment, God, the creator of heaven and earth, is leaning into your home, into this experience in a uniquely personal way and reminding you that he has given you and giving you here and now his precious gift, his Holy Spirit, his spirit of holiness.
-
Can we just agree that God's grace and God's present, God's presence is more than enough for this moment, for right now.
-
Today, right here, he's pouring out his precious gift of his spirit, his spirit of holiness.
-
And I just want to say that regardless of what events or what stories have shaped your story so far, today is a brand new day.
-
This moment is a brand new moment.
-
And I want us all to open up our hearts to what God is calling us into.
-
God is calling us into a life surrounded in holiness and not a life of compromise and not a life of perversion.
-
Let's talk about uncommon purity.
-
And right out of the gate, I want to frame this message by saying this.
-
Some of us are already feeling pangs of emotion that are creating some discomfort.
-
Even just a pastor saying words like sexual immorality in a message just makes you cringe a little bit.
-
And I want to, I just want to bring attention to that.
-
Right out of the gate, I want to frame this by saying some of you are already feeling uncomfortable by me talking about purity.
-
I know for a fact there are people watching who somewhere along life's journey, you've made decisions that you now regret.
-
I see you.
-
Today's a new day.
-
God is with us.
-
God's Holy Spirit is present, being given to us here and now, okay?
-
A pornography addiction maybe nearly destroyed you.
-
Maybe it's nearly destroying you right now.
-
You're in the right room.
-
I see you.
-
It's okay.
-
A lapse in boundaries that could have shipwrecked your marriage.
-
A habit over time that completely destroyed a relationship.
-
A secret pattern of behavior.
-
This very secret pattern of some kind of behavior that robbed you of your holiness, robbed you of your purity.
-
A moment that happened to you that stripped away your sexual worth.
-
I see you.
-
If this feels painful, if this already feels like a trigger, can you just stay with me?
-
Stay in the room.
-
Stay aware of God's presence, his spirit poured out right here, right now.
-
Because regardless of what you've been through, regardless of your story so far, none of that changes this moment.
-
This moment.
-
God's call on our lives is not to a life of compromise or perversion, but to a life surrounded in holiness.
-
God's call for each one of us.
-
First Thessalonians 4, verse 7, again in the message translation, here's what it says: God hasn't invited us into a disorderly, grungy life, but into something holy and beautiful, as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.
-
That's the life that God is inviting us into.
-
That's the life that we've been graced to live today and every day moving forward.
-
That's the life that we've been commissioned to live out as we carry God's spirit of holiness as we live out our lives, uncommon purity as followers of Jesus.
-
And as we take a few minutes today, all of us in the room, to talk about uncommon purity, can I please just shout from the rooftops for a second that right now God is inviting you and I into something holy and something beautiful, as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.
-
You.
-
Yes, you.
-
When it comes to sexual purity, it is common in our world for people to live selfishly, giving into lustful passions and desires with a reckless disregard for their own soul and for the souls of others.
-
That's common in our world.
-
What's crazy is that's been common in the world for a long, long, long, long time.
-
God's will is for us to be holy.
-
That's been written down.
-
We don't have to wonder about that.
-
That's crystal clear.
-
God's will is for you and I, as we live out our lives as followers, apprentices, disciples of Jesus, God's will is for us to be holy.
-
And as his kids, I kind of feel it's paramount to unpack that statement and qualify it by saying it this way: God's will is for us to be holy all of the time, and especially right away, right after we've missed the mark.
-
And holiness isn't something that we abandon or walk away from simply because we made a decision somewhere in our past.
-
Holiness is something we pick up and put on in each new season, at each corner, at each transition, at each turn, get back up and choose holiness.
-
Let's look at it this way.
-
As a daddy, a father of three children, it is my perfect will that my three incredible, world-changing kids actively and quickly hear the voice of their mother and respond.
-
It's my perfect will that when mama says something, my kids perk up and say, What can we do, mom?
-
We'll listen.
-
You've heard me share before about listening right away and that obedient response.
-
Mom's voice matters, kids.
-
Come on, be good listeners.
-
Listen well, respond to what she's saying.
-
Are they perfect?
-
No.
-
Did they get it right all the time?
-
No.
-
Are they disqualified from my love when they fail?
-
No.
-
They're not.
-
They're still Xantings.
-
They're still my kids.
-
I still love them.
-
Do I want them to pick themselves up, shake off the dust of failure, and start over again?
-
Absolutely.
-
Absolutely.
-
It's not like my will changes just because they didn't do it.
-
It remains my will, my desire for them.
-
And I can see that in the natural as a dad.
-
Can we see that in the spiritual?
-
Can we see that in the supernatural when it comes to God's will for us to be holy and not being disqualified from holiness just because of something that happened to you or something that you decided to do somewhere along the way?
-
God's will is for us to be holy all the time, especially right away, right after we've missed the mark.
-
And we're all going to miss the mark.
-
But the invitation to holiness embraces all of a person's life, every facet, every corner, every shadow, every well-illuminated space, holiness wants to touch it all, every part, spirit, soul, and body.
-
Uncommon.
-
Even as we're rolling out these beautiful white new sweatshirts right there on the bottom, uncommon, out of the ordinary, rare, unusual, remarkable.
-
What if we were meant to live a different way?
-
And our mandate to live holy lives as followers of Jesus, if we live in a world where it's common for people to disregard their lustful desires and the passions of their flesh and how they view other people when it comes to sexual gratification, then it's going to be uncommon for us.
-
It's going to be rare and beautiful and holy and remarkable for us to look to the Bible and say, God, what is your will for us when it comes to sexual purity?
-
And here in 1 Thessalonians 4, our passage today, holiness specifically involves staying away from sexual sin.
-
And this is what this passage is all about.
-
Verses 3 to 5.
-
God's will is for you to be set apart for him in holiness and that you keep yourselves unpolluted from sexual defilement.
-
Yes, each of you must guard your sexual purity with holiness and dignity, not yielding to lustful passions like those who don't know God.
-
Paul, working in tandem with a young leader named Timothy, they're coaching these new Christians in Thessalonica.
-
They live in this Greek-influenced Gentile context.
-
Okay?
-
And so Paul working with Timothy is coaching these brand new Christians who live in a Greek-influenced, very Gentile, not Jewish, in other words, context.
-
And this letter is very much a coaching letter and a reminder letter.
-
Why?
-
Because sexual immorality was often tolerated or even celebrated in the ancient Mediterranean world, much like it is in our world today.
-
Prostitution was allowed.
-
Sexual relations with another man's wife were prohibited.
-
Crazy.
-
To me, it's sickening, but it was it was totally prohibited.
-
Roman marriage customs barred women from extramarital affairs, but not the men.
-
Is that weird?
-
Is that twisted?
-
I think so.
-
They could have sex with their wives to create children, sex with their mistresses just for the sake of pleasure.
-
They could have sexual intercourse with prostitutes just to blow off some steam.
-
And it was totally fine.
-
And this is the world that Paul is writing to, to these new Christians.
-
It was common then.
-
It's common now.
-
It's common.
-
But by contrast, both Jewish and Christian ancient teachings prohibited all sexual involvement outside of marriage.
-
And we would champion that here at Evolve.
-
The words sexual defilement or sexual immorality actually come from a Greek word pornea.
-
I said it, pornea.
-
Where do you think we get the word pornography from?
-
Sexual immorality.
-
Pornea means any sexual union of any kind outside of marriage.
-
Pornea.
-
And so today's big question.
-
You okay?
-
Are you uncomfortable with your teenagers in the room?
-
We're gonna get through this.
-
This is important.
-
Hear my heart.
-
Would you let me be your dad today?
-
Today's big question: what disorderly and grungy things have been polluting your soul?
-
And how can you change and grow for today, for this moment, to step into the holy, beautiful, and pure life that God's inviting you into?
-
What disorderly and grungy things have been polluting your soul?
-
And how can you change?
-
How can we grow for today, for this moment, to step into this beautiful, holy and pure life that God's inviting us into?
-
We Xantings, we're what I like to call a two-kettle family.
-
A two-kettle family.
-
Kettle one and kettle two.
-
Lime scale residue on Nicole's kettle.
-
This is Nicole's kettle.
-
No limescale residue on my kettle.
-
Is that because I cleaned mine?
-
No.
-
I actually cleaned this one.
-
Here's why.
-
When Nicole fills her kettle, I love you dear, she walks right over to the tap, the kitchen sink, and puts this kettle under the tap and puts Edmonton City water straight into this kettle.
-
When I fill my kettle, I grab a bottle, a metal-like, you know, reusable bottle.
-
I go to the fridge, we have this water dispenser, it's filtered, and I fill up that bottle, and then I walk over and I pour it into my kettle, and that's the water that I use to make coffee with.
-
You know what's not fair?
-
I'm gonna whine for a second.
-
It's me.
-
It's me that has to clean this one.
-
It's me that has to like make the vinegar boil solution, scrub, get the limescale off.
-
It's me that has to do it.
-
That has nothing to do with my message.
-
I just wanted you to know that it's one of the ways I selflessly love and serve my wife.
-
I clean her kettle, but boiling vinegar is nasty, but it's the only way to get the limescale off.
-
The longer I wait, the more limescale builds up on my wife's kettle.
-
The longer I wait, the more difficult it is to get the residue off.
-
I have really stringent boundaries with my gorgeous matte black cork-handled gooseneck kettle.
-
I have very stringent boundaries with my baby.
-
It's part of my collection.
-
It's a good kettle here.
-
I fight hard to use only pure filtered water in my gooseneck kettle for two reasons.
-
Number one, it keeps the vessel clean.
-
Number two, it improves the quality of my coffee.
-
It makes better coffee when I don't have the nasty Edmonton City water.
-
I use the clean filtered water.
-
So when I when I use stringent boundaries to put pure filtered water into my vessel into my vessel, it keeps the vessel clean and it improves the quality of my coffee.
-
So big question.
-
What disorderly and grungy things have been polluting your soul, and how can you change and grow for today, for this moment, to step into the holy and beautiful and pure life that God's inviting you into?
-
In other words, what boundaries do you have in place to live in the uncommon practice of sexual purity?
-
What boundaries do you have in place?
-
How are you fighting hard to keep your vessel clean and to improve the quality of your influence?
-
Because stringent boundaries are going to do both.
-
They're going to keep your vessel pure and they're going to improve the quality of your influence.
-
Can I be your dad today?
-
Can I speak to you as just a spiritual father, as your pastor today?
-
I want to speak into your hearts as your spiritual dad in this moment, as your pastor, not as your friend, not as your buddy, not as your pal, not as your leader, not as your boss, but just as your spiritual dad.
-
God's will is for you to be set apart for him in holiness and that you keep yourselves unpolluted from sexual defilement.
-
Yes, each of you must guard your sexual purity boundaries with holiness and dignity, not yielding to lustful passions like those who don't know God.
-
If you're really diligent with this, if you're really great at this, I see you.
-
Keep on.
-
I'm cheering you on.
-
If you're struggling, you're in the right.
-
Room.
-
Don't struggle alone.
-
Don't struggle in isolation.
-
Let's learn and grow.
-
Reach out.
-
We're in this together.
-
But how?
-
Let's get practical.
-
How do we guard our sexual purity with holiness and with dignity?
-
When Nicole fills her kettle, she walks over to the sink and uses the tap.
-
When I fill my gooseneck kettle, I grab a bottle and fill it from the filtered water dispenser and fill it up.
-
I have stringent boundaries with this beautiful kettle.
-
I fight hard to use pure filtered water.
-
Why?
-
Because it keeps my vessel clean and it improves the quality of my coffee.
-
We guard our sexual purity with holiness and dignity by having stringent boundaries over what's coming into our vessel, into our soul.
-
We guard our sexual purity with holiness and dignity by having great boundaries, by paying close attention to what's coming into our soul.
-
And that's what I want to talk about.
-
Proverbs 4, 20, 23.
-
Listen carefully, my dear child, to everything that I teach you.
-
Pay attention to all that I have to say.
-
Fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit.
-
Then, as you unwrap my words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being.
-
And verse 23, Proverbs 4, 23, we love this verse.
-
So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are.
-
Pay attention to, listen, pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.
-
Are you paying attention to the wellspring of your innermost being, your soul?
-
Do you have boundaries in place to guard the dignity and the holiness and the purity of your inner self?
-
So big question what disorderly and grungy things have been polluting your soul, and how can we change?
-
I want to talk about just two things as we close out.
-
Number one, you can guard your heart and soul with holiness and dignity by guarding your eyes.
-
Your eyes.
-
Practical.
-
Psalm 101, verses 2 to 4.
-
I'm trying my best to walk in the way of integrity, especially in my own home.
-
But Lord, I need your help.
-
And I'm wondering, when will you appear?
-
Here's where it gets good.
-
I refuse to gaze at that which is vulgar.
-
I despise works of evil people, and anything that moves my heart away from you.
-
This attention to refusing to look at vulgar things, and how he sees that as moving his heart away from God.
-
I will not let evil hold me in its grip.
-
Every perverse and crooked way I've put away from my heart, for I will have nothing to do with deeds of darkness.
-
Interesting how he talks about refusing to gaze on that which is vulgar and the impact that has on his heart.
-
What are you allowing to pour into your heart, into your soul, into your inner health, through the gateway of your eyes?
-
What are you allowing in that's polluting your heart?
-
There's this obviously thing, porn.
-
We'll just go there for a minute.
-
If you're battling a pornography addiction right now, you are loved deeply.
-
And can I please draw that out of the shadows and into the light as the damaging and counterfeit and crooked thing that it is?
-
Let me just pull it out of the shadows for a second.
-
The porn industry is a wicked business.
-
Its target demographic is 10-year-old boys so that it gets them for life.
-
I've studied this.
-
Romans 8, verse 1.
-
I just need you to remember that the case is closed.
-
There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life union of Jesus.
-
My desire for you, if porn's a real thing in your life today, in your home, stop living in condemnation, stop living in guilt, stop living in fear and shame, crippled under the weight of this thing, step into the light.
-
Call me.
-
I won't be harsh.
-
I won't judge you.
-
We will walk with you into freedom.
-
We will walk with you into wholeness by the grace of Jesus.
-
The psalmist said, I refuse to gaze on that which is vulgar.
-
That was a boundary.
-
So what disorderly and grungy things have been polluting your soul through the gateway of your eyes that you could change and grow for today to step into this holy and beautiful and pure life that God's inviting us into.
-
Maybe that applies to the Netflix binge that you're currently held captive to.
-
Maybe there's stuff in there that you, if your kid walks into the room, you like hide your computer or your iPad.
-
Maybe that applies to the photography blog that you eagerly scroll through every day.
-
I don't know.
-
Maybe that applies to the way you allow yourself to stare at her or him's eyes.
-
What are you allowing to pour into your heart through the gateway of your eyes that is polluting your heart?
-
So it's real practical.
-
But never from a place of shame, never from a weight of condemnation and guilt, because in this house there's life, in this house, there's pathways to freedom, and there's hope in Jesus to be set free from these things that hold us captive.
-
But guard your heart, guard your soul, protect your holiness and your dignity by guarding what you allow in through your eyes.
-
Mark 4, 24, then he said to them, Be diligent to understand the meaning behind everything you hear.
-
And this is the second one.
-
The second way we can guard our hearts, guard our holiness and our dignity is by what we're being careful with, how we're setting boundaries by what's coming into our ear.
-
First one, eye, second one, ear.
-
Mark 4 24.
-
Be diligent to understand the meaning behind everything you hear, for as you do, more understanding will be given to you.
-
And according to the depth of your longing to understand, much more will be added to you.
-
In context, Jesus is teaching us to use wisdom with our ears.
-
Use wisdom with what we're listening to.
-
Whether you're a single person or a married person or an engaged person or an it's complicated person, your relationship status doesn't matter.
-
God's call on each one of our lives is not to a life of compromise and perversion, but to a life surrounded in holiness.
-
And this includes what we're allowing into our hearts through the gateway of our ear.
-
For years, that meant that Christian leaders would use their platforms to tell good Christian folk what to listen to and what not to listen to.
-
Don't listen to this band, don't listen to this thing, listen to this.
-
That is not what today is for.
-
I'm not that guy.
-
But today is simply an invitation for every single one of us to just pause for a second.
-
Examine the well-being of our hearts.
-
Proverbs 423, above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are.
-
Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.
-
For us today, it's about paying attention to the voices that we're allowing to gain access to our hearts.
-
Radio, news media, coworkers, podcasts, audio books, friends, music, sure.
-
But deeper than that, what voices are leading you down a slippery slope of letting down your guard?
-
What voices are influencing the condition of your heart when it comes to the permission you give yourself to step away from the calling of holiness, to step away from the calling of sexual purity?
-
What voices are giving you permission, either overtly or subtly, to compromise your purity, compromise your holiness?
-
What themes and messages are you listening to that are creating confusion or creating residue or crusty buildup on your heart?
-
What disorderly and grungy things have been polluting your soul through the gateway of your ears that you could change today, grow a little fit, grow a little bit further today to step into this holy and beautiful and pure life that God is inviting you into.
-
Guard your heart, guard your soul by guarding your ears.
-
God's call in our lives is not to a life of compromise and perversion, but to a life surrounded in holiness.
-
Otherwise, they would open their eyes to see, and open their ears to hear, and open their minds to understand, and then they would turn to me and let me instantly heal them.
-
Through our eyes, through our ears, and through our hearts.
-
Would you be free today?
-
Would you turn to Jesus?
-
Would you let him instantly heal you today?
-
Would you let him instantly bring healing to your soul?
-
Healing to your inner man to walk into the no condemnation for those who abide in Jesus.
-
To walk into the light out of darkness.
-
And now, beloved brothers and sisters, since you've been mentored by us with respect to living for God and pleasing Him, we appeal to you today, in the name of the Lord Jesus, with this request, keep faithfully growing through our teachings, even more and more.
-
For you already know the instructions we've shared.
-
Verse 3, God's will is for you to be set apart for Him in holiness, and that you keep yourselves unpolluted from sexual defilement.
-
Yes, each of you must guard your sexual purity with holiness and dignity, not yielding to lustful passions like those who don't know God.
-
Never take selfish advantage of a brother or sister in this matter.
-
We've already told you and solemnly warned you.
-
God's call on our lives is not to a life of compromise and perversion, but to a life surrounded in holiness.
-
Therefore, whoever rejects this instruction isn't rejecting human authority or my words today, but God's heart, however, God gives us his precious gift, his spirit of holiness, when we don't reject this kind of teaching, when we lean into it and choose today, in our time, in our cities, in our culture, to live lives of uncommon sexual purity.
-
Can we pray?
-
Let's pray.
-
Father, our hearts are open.
-
We know that living according to your will, your plan for us, it's so, so much better.
-
And we want to live with wisdom.
-
We wisdom to guard our hearts.
-
Wisdom to have clear boundaries with what's coming into our soul through our eyes, through our ears.
-
And today we stand before you, Father, and we cry out, we cry out as your sons and daughters.
-
Make us wise.
-
Would you set us apart as your people, called to live uncommon lives of purity and holiness?
-
And for some, maybe for the first time, would you fill us up with your Holy Spirit?
-
And others, maybe just a refreshing today, a reminder, an awareness of your presence, Holy Spirit, to know you and to serve you and to love you today, as we are.
-
All that we have, we want to grow.
-
We want to change.
-
We want to live for you, Father.
-
In the name of Jesus we pray.
-
Amen.
-
Amen.
-
So that was not an exhaustive teaching, but it was what I what I prepared for us today.
-
And it's going to bring some questions.
-
It's going to bring some conversation in your home.
-
And it's also brought some things to the light today.
-
I believe people are standing on the edge of freedom.
-
And here's the next step.
-
If you're really struggling with sexual things, don't struggle alone.
-
There's freedom.
-
There's hope.
-
There's life.
-
Email me.
-
Call us.
-
Reach out this week.
-
Don't struggle alone.
-
We'll see it through.
-
We'll walk this out with you.
-
That's what family's for, right?
-
And listen, if you're here today in this room and you're like, whoo, man, did I pick a Sunday to turn tune into Evolve for the first time?
-
You're in the right room.
-
And if you've never made a decision to yield and surrender your life to the gift of Jesus, today is your day.
-
There isn't any hurdle you have to jump, any any hoop you have to cross through, just an open heart, an open spirit, and a willingness to say, on my own, Father, I'm not enough, but Jesus qualifies me.
-
And that's the price he paid through his death and through his life and through his resurrection.
-
He bought your price so that you could walk with and know God in a beautiful personal way.
-
Experience the grace and the freedom and the forgiveness and the healing and the inner health that I know you desire today.
-
And so in a moment we're going to pray a simple prayer all together.
-
Everybody who's watching this sermon, this service today, we're going to pray it out loud.
-
And we just want to invite you to pray it with us.
-
Would you open up your heart to the presence of God in your room, in your home today?
-
Just repeat after me.
-
Say, Dear God, I thank you for sending Jesus to take my place.
-
Today I choose, not in part, but in whole, to surrender all of my life to the leadership of Jesus.
-
Would you forgive me for everything I've done wrong?
-
And would you fill up my life with your grace, with your hope, with your love.
-
In Jesus' name.
-
Amen.
-
Thank you so much for listening to today's message.
