Hi, this is John Ozanting, lead pastor of Evolved Church, and this is the Evolved Church Podcast.
-
Thanks so much for tuning in.
-
We hope that you find today's message encouraging and full of hope for wherever you're at.
-
So this series is Jesus' last teaching before he would head to the cross.
-
The upper room moment with his disciples leading into the Lord's Supper, some of the most famous things that lots of people would recognize, but it's a significant chunk of the book of John.
-
And today we're going to be landing in chapter 16.
-
But I want to ask you all a question.
-
How many of you can relate to this statement?
-
Life would have been so much better if Blank hadn't left me.
-
If my child hadn't gone away to school, or in my life, if my parents don't go back to Phoenix every winter, how much easier would my life be?
-
The extra childcare, the helping around the house, the meals that we get to eat with them.
-
But I'm sure many of you can relate to that experience.
-
If my family had just stuck around a little bit longer, if that friend hadn't moved overseas, if this hadn't happened, my life would be better.
-
Life would be easier if they had stuck around just a little bit longer.
-
And following up the Easter weekend, hearing about the cross and the resurrection, I wanted to be fresh in our minds that we're dealing with the big idea that Jesus told his disciples.
-
And it's that it is to our advantage that Jesus is now in heaven.
-
That Jesus left to go to heaven.
-
Can you open up your Bibles and notebooks today?
-
Open up to John 16 as we're going to be going through it in three different sections and having three different things we can pull from this entire chapter.
-
We're going to start with verse 1 to 15.
-
It says, I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away.
-
They will put you out of the synagogues.
-
Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.
-
And they will do these things because they have not known the Father nor me.
-
But I have said these things to you that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told them to you.
-
I did not say these things to you from the beginning because I was with you, but now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me where are you going, but because I have said these things to you, sorrow has now filled your heart.
-
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away.
-
For if I do not go away, the helper will not come to you.
-
But if I go, I will send him to you.
-
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment, concerning sin because they do not believe in me, concerning righteousness because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer, and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
-
I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
-
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears, he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
-
He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
-
All that the Father has is mine.
-
Therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
-
It is to your advantage that I go away.
-
But in this moment we need to put ourselves into the disciples' shoes because they still can't fully understand everything that's going on.
-
He's telling them he's gonna leave, but from this moment up until the resurrection, some of the things that might be going through their minds as they've heard this, it's to your advantage that Jesus was arrested.
-
It's to your advantage that Jesus' ministry, his teachings, and miracles have stopped.
-
It's to your advantage that Jesus has been mocked and beaten and they're probably gonna come after you next.
-
It's to your advantage that he was executed on a cross.
-
It's to your advantage that Jesus died in the company of criminals.
-
It's to your advantage that his lifeless body lay in a cold grave.
-
That's the scene up until the resurrection of what would have been going through their mind.
-
Jesus said, It's to your advantage that I leave you, but these are the things they were experiencing.
-
In verse one to four here, Jesus warns the disciples about all of this.
-
I tell you these things now to keep you from falling away.
-
When the fill-in-the-blank bad thing happens, when people come to kill you, thinking they are helping God, because that's what was going on.
-
People thought they were doing a service to God by coming after the disciples, to stop the heresy from happening, to stop the word of Jesus who they didn't believe was true from being spread.
-
When people persecute you, when they feel lonely and despised, that is when the hour has come that he's talking about.
-
And it will come, and it has come.
-
For many of us in this room, times have come where you felt these things, where you felt persecuted, while you felt lonely and despised by the people around you, where you feel like if you had just been with Jesus, it would be better.
-
Times where you feel like you are nothing and your intention, and that's all you can feel, is the tension around you.
-
But this is a reminder for all of us that the hour is coming.
-
The hour was coming and it is here because Jesus suffered the most ironic defeat of all time.
-
It looked like defeat to the average person who saw his life end on the cross.
-
A terrible thing for all the people who loved and served him at the moment, if they didn't fully understand.
-
But his apparent defeat on the cross was actually the most amazing victory of all time.
-
And when we recognize that we get to partake in his sufferings, that when we face those persecutions, when we face those things, we're actually partaking and unifying ourselves with the work and victory Jesus has done.
-
That's when we start to see, okay, there's tension here, but I've already experienced victory.
-
We're partaking in the greatest victory of all time.
-
But yet still the disciples were very preoccupied.
-
Their preoccupation with their own problems prevented their understanding the crucial nature of the time now and the momentous significance of the events: his death, burial, resurrection, and his ascension.
-
Like the disciples, we're often caught in the moments of the preoccupation of things going on in our lives, in our deficiencies, and it can diminish our understanding of the importance of the right now.
-
I have often wondered to myself what it would have been like to be alive over 2,000 years ago and to have walked and followed after Jesus, to have seen some of the things.
-
And for years at my old church, I got to be a part of an Easter musical and be a disciple, put myself into their shoes and try to act and feel the emotions that they would have felt.
-
And every Easter season, I can always think back to those moments of seeing Jesus on the cross, of worshiping him as he's resurrected, but also of experiencing the miracles that he performed and trying to feel like I was in those moments.
-
It was a privilege.
-
And if I'm being honest, I still have those moments where I would have loved to have partaken in the bread and the fish at that miracle.
-
I would have loved to be there to have eaten that bread.
-
How much easier would it be to stay on fire for Jesus if I had eaten that bread and been fed by those loaves and the fish from that boy?
-
Or if I'd seen Lazarus been raised from the dead, or if I'd seen any of the many miracles he had performed for others.
-
And I've heard people in my life, friends, who have used it as an excuse to not do things because, like, well, it was so much easier if I had experienced Jesus and actually heard him teach, then I would do this.
-
But it's becoming an excuse.
-
They say, if I had heard his teaching, his powerful teaching, the way he taught, the way he lived, then I could have done this.
-
But the truth is, we still have his words.
-
He's still teaching us.
-
Everything he taught them back then is still just as fresh for us.
-
And we get to take it everywhere we go.
-
Back then you had to travel for miles and miles to go hear him teach.
-
And now we have his teachings on our phone, in our Bibles, in our notes.
-
We get to listen to people who have learned and share their experiences.
-
Jesus' words aren't something that happened forever ago and aren't alive today.
-
We get to sit in his teachings.
-
We get to open up scripture, his very word.
-
As we have those words documented, we get those stories.
-
We get to learn and experience those miracles.
-
Yeah, maybe we don't see the same type of miracles.
-
But we often forget the miracles he's performed in our life.
-
Sometimes they're not as big as feeding of 5,000 people, and that's okay, it's still miraculous.
-
But we forget about those miracles and think, I just want to see the big one that he did forever ago.
-
And we put that as an excuse not to do things today.
-
And then Jesus said, It's better that I have left you.
-
So if we take him at his word and we want to listen to his teachings, but we don't allow that one to sink in, then where are we?
-
He said it's better and we have to trust him.
-
Jesus' valuation of what is for his disciples' good, indeed for our good, ought to temper longings of the, oh, if only I could have been in Galilee when Jesus was there, sort.
-
That same Jesus insists it's better to be alive now after the coming of the Spirit.
-
Jesus knows what's good for us.
-
And if Jesus said it, it means it's true.
-
And that means that we can focus on the fact that a helper has come.
-
From that first section, a helper has come.
-
And we can be thankful that the promised Holy Spirit is here now.
-
It's in this room, it's residing in us.
-
And the word here to describe the Holy Spirit is paraclete, which means advocate or counselor.
-
Let's look at verse seven and eight again.
-
It says, Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it's to your advantage that I go away.
-
For if I do not go away, the helper will not come.
-
But if I go, I will send him to you.
-
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.
-
And then on to verse 13, when the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into the truth.
-
For he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears, he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
-
He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
-
Now back to this mindset of the paraclete, the helper, the counselor, the advocate.
-
My wife and I really enjoy watching lawyer TV shows, the courtroom.
-
Um they're fun times.
-
And uh seeing attorneys try to fight for the truth or fight for their client, whether they're guilty or innocent, but they have clever speech, they go on their long closing arguments to convince a jury and the judge of their point of view, even if they don't necessarily believe it.
-
But they're trying to do all the convincing and come up with clever talk to do that work.
-
And we get a laugh out of it.
-
But in reality, it's not our job to do that type of thing.
-
We think sometimes that we need to do things in our skill to try to be super clever to do the convincing and convicting, to prove to a jury and the judge of someone's guilt or innocence.
-
We do not study the word of God in order to argue religion with people or to show off our grasp of spiritual things.
-
We study the word to see Jesus Christ, to know God better, to glorify him in our lives.
-
As we witness in this hostile world, the Spirit uses the word he has taught us, and we share Jesus Christ with the lost.
-
It's our job to witness, it's the Spirit's job to convict.
-
Perhaps some of us need to quit acting like prosecuting attorneys or judges so that the Spirit can use us as faithful witnesses.
-
The helper is here so that we don't have to do the convicting.
-
The helper is here so he can do it and we can live as faithful witnesses to Christ.
-
Our lives model the example of Jesus.
-
And as we seek truth, that's in Scripture, the Holy Spirit begins to enlighten us, and that is the greatest treasure that we could ever ask for knowledge and wisdom.
-
Proverbs 3, verse 13 to 15 says, Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver, and her profit better than gold.
-
She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
-
As we partner with the Holy Spirit and do our part, living in the world as Jesus lived over 2,000 years ago, we get to be involved in the daily lives of men and women around us, at our workplaces, in our neighborhoods, and we get to be involved with the issues of our time and society.
-
And we get to help show the contrast now between human ways and God's ways.
-
The Holy Spirit uses the church as his witness, and he continues to reveal truth to them, knowledge and understanding, that Jesus was triumphant in his death and his resurrection, and that now the Holy Spirit is here to help us and play an active role.
-
And although conviction isn't the same as conversion, it plays a part in leading people to the cross, to salvation, to realize that we as sinners need a savior.
-
Because it's very possible that man can try to do a lot of things on their own, that they can correct their actions, that they can live a morally correct life and change behavior and still be lost for all of eternity.
-
Because without the conviction and then the conversion to follow Jesus, they're missing something.
-
And as we begin to understand the Holy Spirit's role, it helps us in figuring out this promise of the conviction of sin and how he reveals righteousness and judgment to us.
-
And then we can fully understand our role to play as witness.
-
Recognizing things that Jesus taught his disciples because we are so fearful sometimes to be witness to others.
-
We're waiting to have the exact right thing to say.
-
In verse 12, Jesus tells the disciples, I still have many things to say to you, but you can't hear them right now.
-
You can't bear them.
-
Your hearts aren't ready.
-
Their hearts have been hardened.
-
And often we're talking to a world that has hardened hearts.
-
We don't often have to share everything with everyone in every moment.
-
We don't have to have the exact right thing to say, which often leads to us saying nothing at all.
-
We need to understand that when we say the best thing possible, their hearts can still be hardened.
-
It's the Spirit, the paraclete, the advocate and counselor who does the convicting and reveals the truth.
-
The disciples heard directly from Jesus and yet they still didn't understand.
-
It took them time to experience it.
-
So we need to realize that hey, we don't have to have it all together.
-
We don't have to wait for the right word or write down the exact perfect thing or copy and paste what Pastor Jana was sent to us to share to someone.
-
We get to share and witness from our own experiences of what God's done in our life and then trust the Holy Spirit to do the rest.
-
Jesus needed to go for the helper to come.
-
And it's to our advantage that Jesus is now in heaven.
-
Let's move on to verse 16 to 22.
-
A little while and you will see me no longer.
-
And again a little while and you will see me.
-
So some of his disciples said to one another, What is this that he says to us?
-
A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me.
-
And because I'm going to the Father?
-
So they were saying, What does he mean by a little while?
-
We do not know what he is talking about.
-
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, Is this what you are asking yourselves?
-
What I meant by saying, A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me?
-
Truly, truly I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice.
-
You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.
-
When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come.
-
But when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish.
-
For joy that a human being has been born into the world, so also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
-
There's a lot of confusion going on in this passage for the disciples, because they can't make sense of these statements that Jesus is telling them, because he's not actually gone yet, he's physically with them.
-
But there's so much importance that comes from this in realizing what he talks about about sorrow and joy, and the relationship that sorrows and sadness have in the experiences in our lives, and how he teaches us that sorrow transforms into joy.
-
One of my favorite lines from this section is verse 22.
-
And your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
-
No one.
-
What a powerful statement from Jesus there.
-
That no one can take their joy from him.
-
It seems like a giant promise that is almost unattainable, but it's so true because our joy isn't the normal type of joy that people experience.
-
Our joy is something that can only be explained by the Holy Spirit, by Jesus being gone, by Jesus victory.
-
Because Christ is still alive, no one can take that away from us.
-
And we start to see the very present implications of life post-resurrection.
-
Jesus is alive, and his reach and power are greater than ever.
-
He's no longer confined to a geographical location in the world.
-
He's no longer out east somewhere.
-
He's actually present, physically living and residing in each one of us, which allows him to reach to every corner of the globe.
-
And yet sometimes all of us will still have sorrow.
-
But no one can take that joy from you.
-
And the analogy of a woman giving birth in this passage is something that's timeless because women are continually giving birth.
-
And as we prepare for July when we're gonna have our second child, I think about the joy that's going to come after that moment, the moment of pain and anguish.
-
I think to getting to hold my next baby.
-
The moments, as my wife says from the front row here, the long moments and agony that I don't have to experience.
-
But we will get to hold a child and see life that has been brought into this world and experience that joy that Jesus talks about as the situation is transformed into the next amazing thing.
-
You know, Warren Wearsby in a commentary I read talks about the replacement of a broken toy when he talks about this and how often a lot of things can be looked at through a parent-child relationship.
-
And uh the broken toy, or when a friend leaves and a f and you get upset and they just want you to call up another friend or they want you to go buy another toy to fix the situation and substitute their sorrow with something new, we need to realize that transformation is actually the best thing.
-
The way of substitution for solving problems is the way of immaturity.
-
The way of transformation is the way of faith and maturity.
-
We cannot mature emotionally or spiritually if someone is always replacing our broken toys.
-
No one wants their child to grow up feeling like at every moment, every mini crisis, that their mother's gonna come to the rescue and solve their problem for them.
-
I mean, I'm thankful when my mother does step in and come helps when there's crisis.
-
Let's not get it wrong.
-
Any adult feels that way, I'm sure.
-
But if every little situation has always been, well, it's broken, someone's gonna give me something new, I've never had to learn on my own the tools I need to transform that, you get you're gonna have a pretty difficult adult life.
-
We need to realize that Jesus wants to transform our experiences as we turn to him, as he wants to take our sorrow and work with us and turn it to joy.
-
As we get to learn from those situations and learn how to equip ourselves in doing the next best thing.
-
The transformation of a situation into joy comes as a part of living in a consistent, obedient life.
-
Obedient to remaining in Jesus.
-
Remaining in his love and in his word.
-
Our fruit and joy come from some of the stuff that John developed in chapter 15 that we looked at a couple weeks ago.
-
We need to remain in him.
-
And we don't want to substitute situations for a quick fix.
-
We want to transform so we're fully healed and fully grasping the joy that he has promised us.
-
When we know whose we are, when we know why we are here and where we're going, headed in line with Scripture, we can know that situations are temporary and take each moment and learn to form it and transform it into joy.
-
Throughout the Bible, it talks about joy coming in the midst of trials.
-
As we persevere through something difficult, that's when we get to learn about joy.
-
It's an amazing thing.
-
We sang about joy earlier and how the joy that we have comes from the Lord.
-
And then we can remember that no one will take your joy from you.
-
It's a gift from God.
-
And knowing that Jesus is there and we have access to Him forever, it means it's ours.
-
It's ours to take.
-
You can choose to not accept it, but that's on you.
-
You can choose to throw away your joy, but again, that's on you.
-
No one else can come in and try to take it from you.
-
It's yours if you want to keep it.
-
And then finally, there's joy that comes in prayer.
-
The beginning of this passage, he talked about how there's going to be troubles and trials, and he's going to go, and for a time it might seem bad, but then he continues to highlight joy post-resurrection, the joy that can come from the helper, and now joy that's going to be found in prayer.
-
Because prayer is really one of the secrets, and I don't know why it's a secret, but it seems to be a secret of a fruitful Christian life.
-
It's not the only way to behave, but it's a very important way to act on prayer.
-
Often Christians focus on the great actions they can do, on serving, on reading their Bible, on trying to witness to people, but they forget on one of the most important things that Jesus did all the time, and that is to pray.
-
Pray for a meal here, sure.
-
Pray for your child when they go to bed.
-
Okay.
-
Pray when the situation's really difficult.
-
I get that one.
-
But what about other prayers of faith?
-
Jesus teaches his disciples about prayer on multiple occasions, and he also shows them by the way he lived, by his example, what a life of prayer looks like.
-
Taking time away to pray, spending it with the Father to pour into what the Father has for him.
-
But until then, the disciples only went to Jesus with their problems.
-
And Jesus would now be going to the Father, and it started this new era where people could call on the Father.
-
Let's look at verse 23 to 33.
-
In that day you will ask nothing of me.
-
Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
-
Until now you have asked nothing in my name.
-
Ask and you will receive that your joy may be full.
-
I have said these things to you in figures of speech.
-
The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
-
In that day you will ask in my name, and do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf.
-
For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
-
I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.
-
His disciples said, Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figures of speech.
-
Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you.
-
This is why we believe that you came from God.
-
And Jesus answered them, Do you now believe?
-
Behold, the hour is coming.
-
Indeed, it has come when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone.
-
Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me, and I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.
-
In the world you will have tribulation, but take heart, for I have overcome the world.
-
Chapter 16 ends with a very encouraging line for all of us.
-
Take heart, for I have overcome the world.
-
Take heart, be courageous, because he has already won.
-
And because when we are in union with him, we can also win.
-
In the midst of the world of the hostile pressure, of people obsessed with opposing everything that's of Jesus' message.
-
It's like they're on a mission to do things, even if they don't believe it, just because it goes against Jesus.
-
They want to stand for that because they don't like us.
-
We can have peace and joy in Him and in His victory.
-
1 John 5, verse 4 to 5 says, Every Godborn person conquers the world's ways.
-
The conquering power that brings the world to its knees is our faith.
-
The person who wins out over the world's ways is simply the one who believes Jesus is the Son of God.
-
So do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God?
-
Do you?
-
Because if you do, it means that you get to share in that victory.
-
It means you've overcome the world too.
-
And because of this victory, we have access to a Father who loves us and it leads us back into prayer.
-
Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask for in the Father, in my name, he will give it to you.
-
I need to note that in my name here isn't a magic formula that lets us get what we want or enables us to just do whatever we want, but it ties a request to the work of Jesus that he did on earth, the Son, in doing the Father's will.
-
The disciples had to go to Jesus for everything.
-
In uncertainty, they went to Jesus.
-
When they were hungry, they said, Jesus, feed us.
-
When they didn't know where to go next, I said, Jesus, where are we going?
-
Where are we going to sleep?
-
They took every situation and took it to Him, to His physical human form.
-
So, what does that tell us about the way we can go to God in the name of Jesus about our uncertainties, about our direction, about every little situation?
-
We don't have to wait for the biggest trial to come our way to turn to him and ask for his help.
-
We can go to him in all of our uncertainties, the way the disciples went to him, to learn the truth that comes from him.
-
Because we now have unlimited access all the time.
-
So, where can we find joy in times of pressure and uncertainty?
-
First, by acknowledging that each of our ministries and everything we possess is God's.
-
Jesus is Lord, and everything I have and do is committed totally into his hands.
-
If Jesus in grace chooses to use it for his glory, I rejoice.
-
And if he chooses not to use it, but to bring all I have planned and worked to achieve to an end, he can use disaster to glorify himself.
-
And I rejoice.
-
Sometimes people pray and they don't see the result they hoped or expected.
-
But even if disaster comes, we need to be able to say, God, still I will glorify you.
-
Still I will trust you.
-
I will rejoice because, God, I am aligning myself with Jesus who did your will on earth.
-
Jesus who in the Garden of Gethsemane prayed and asked God to take the cup from him, but still committed to doing his will.
-
And if we're willing to pray like that, that's when we're going to start to see the power that says, God, I'm aligning myself with Jesus, the work he did, and in his name I ask that you would do this thing for me.
-
You know, sometimes we can go to God with prayers like this God, I had a bad week.
-
I don't feel that joy right now, but I trust you.
-
God, how can my child walking away from the faith be good?
-
But God, I trust you.
-
And I'm here to glorify you.
-
What's next for me?
-
God, my best friend got into a car accident.
-
I don't know if they're gonna make it.
-
God, what are you gonna do?
-
And still I will glorify you.
-
Lord, I come to you.
-
That's what it's all about.
-
It's taking every situation and moment, aligning ourselves with Jesus, coming to God for joy and asking him.
-
We can ask him big things.
-
We can.
-
But we need to remember that it's still about us rejoicing in the work that we know he's doing and the victory that he's won.
-
Just like Jesus in the garden.
-
He didn't want to have to go onto a cross and die a brutal death, but he aligned himself with God's will, and now we have victory and we have salvation, we have forgiveness for our sins.
-
We don't have to pay the penalty anymore.
-
We have access to joy that can never be taken away.
-
John 16, 28 again.
-
First, I left the Father and arrived in the world.
-
Now I leave the world and travel to the Father.
-
That's a one-sentence summary of what Jesus came to earth to do.
-
He came incarnate in the flesh to live amongst us from down from heaven.
-
He lived on earth, did everything he needed to do, set up, taught us, and now he needed to go back.
-
That was the plan, and he did it.
-
And it's to our advantage that Jesus is now in heaven.
-
As fun as it can be to imagine a different time or place to have lived, we need to remember that we are living in the time right now that Jesus has promised would be better than ever because he still lives.
-
We're living in a time and place that needs us right now.
-
We're living in moments where we need to be faithful witnesses.
-
We can't say, well, 20 years ago was easier.
-
Because you know, our kids that aren't even 20 years old, they don't know what that's like.
-
Our kids need us now.
-
Our friends need us now.
-
The victory has been won.
-
A helper has come, the paraclete, the Holy Spirit, the counselor, the advocate.
-
Jesus wants to transform us and take situations that might seem hopeless, but lead us into joy.
-
And as we learn to pray faithfully and seek God, more joy follows.
-
The secret key to a fruitful Christian life is found in prayer.
-
So how can you pray more?
-
Something practical for all of us.
-
Setting aside time each day to pray.
-
Not waiting for the right moment or leaving it up to chance to happen because often if you don't, it's not gonna happen.
-
Being faithful to say, God, I'm gonna set this time aside, I'm gonna sacrifice some time and I'm gonna pray.
-
This isn't me trying to be legalistic and set rules for you to follow for your life.
-
It's me saying that prayer is vital for you to bear fruit in your life.
-
Developing good habits in your life doesn't happen by chance, it happens through work.
-
So, how can we partner with the Holy Spirit, the paraclete, the advocate, and the counselor?
-
We just have to be good witnesses.
-
Good witnesses to the gospel.
-
Taking what God's done in our life and not being ashamed to live it out, not being ashamed to say the things that are on our heart to others, not waiting till we think we have the perfect phrase that we can say that's gonna win someone over.
-
Because that phrase, even as perfect as it can be, isn't gonna be the thing that does it.
-
The greatest public speaker on earth, or the person with the statter that can barely get their words out.
-
It's no difference because the Holy Spirit is the one who does the convicting.
-
And by allowing the Holy Spirit to do the convicting, we then just need to show unconditional love.
-
Where have you been playing the role of attorney when you need to be playing the role of witness?
-
Where have you been playing the role of judge and saying they are so wrong, they're so far out, I need to wait, I need to fix them?
-
When you just need to be a witness of the power of what God's done in your life.
-
Are you ready to say, Holy Spirit, you are here?
-
You're my helper, and now I want to do what I can do to be the best that you want of me, to be the best witness I can be.
-
And as I realize that the sorrows we experience in life can lead to joy, the joy that no one can take away from us, that's gonna be a witness to those around us.
-
When they see tough times and still joy in our lives, that we can only point them to Jesus.
-
Miracles are going to happen.
-
We just need to work on the witness we are to the world.
-
Because there's so many people out there that are living in a hopeless world that don't know Jesus.
-
They don't believe, but they need that hope.
-
They're lost.
-
Are you willing to be the hands and the feet of Jesus to walk to the ends of the earth?
-
Jesus lived physically for a while, and now we're physically living with Him in us across the world, and we can reach every corner of every community.
-
Holy Spirit, do what you can do and then help me do what I can do.
-
Fill me with the joy and thank you that no one can take it away from me.
-
Are you ready to be faithful witnesses, full of joy and living in the fruit that comes from prayer?
