  1. Good morning, y'all. Y'all all right?

  2. Y'all learning? Y'all learning?

  3. Y'all learning. I just like that.

  4. I want to do it again. Good morning.

  5. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess I've been up here enough

  6. that y'all just know how to get down, huh?

  7. I like it. I like it, man.

  8. What are we after? Cole kind of did his thing and

  9. LED us all in prayer. Bro, I was almost like, I don't

  10. need to really go up here. I think we think we kind of

  11. nailed it. Cole had had also said some

  12. things that that really resonated with me.

  13. This can be a confusing week for some, hard to week for others.

  14. Troubling, even fearful. We're going to, we're going to

  15. talk to do some things today. One thing he also said was, you

  16. know, being a truth speaker even when you're scared to do it,

  17. We're also called to speak the truth and love.

  18. So we're going to talk about love a little bit today.

  19. And it is crazy. God's sovereignty and his timing

  20. with this message and even how the week is.

  21. So let me start back to introducing myself.

  22. If you can't tell the loud people in here kind of kind of

  23. know how I am. I also want to kind of queue it

  24. up today. If you haven't heard me preach

  25. before, I'm probably one of the loudest people we got up in

  26. here. So, so yeah, so, so be ready.

  27. And I got I got, you know, I'm not a tenor like some of our or

  28. other leaders. So my voice might kind of hit

  29. you in the chest a little bit. Just just let it happen.

  30. It'd be alright. But also, I am Will and I have

  31. the privilege and honor to being part of the preaching team.

  32. Like I was saying, we're we're continue to we're continue to

  33. trudge through Titus today and we officially officially

  34. graduated to Titus too. So shout out to that definitely

  35. after a few weeks, but I don't know if y'all remember, but when

  36. we first started like hey, we're about to go through Titus 17

  37. weeks. Cole had asked the the church to

  38. read, listen and meditate the entire book of Titus at least

  39. once a week, which would minimally put you at like 17

  40. times reading, praying, listening and meditating on the

  41. Scripture. Now, I ain't that guy that's

  42. going to tell you like, hey, who's been doing that?

  43. Who's the good Christian? Raise your hand.

  44. That's not really my style. I see you, Casey.

  45. I appreciate that. But I know some of you are going

  46. to be like, yeah, man, I've been doing that.

  47. Like, Casey, there's some of you that's out there.

  48. That's like, man, bro, I totally forgot he even asked us to do

  49. that. And then there's some of you

  50. that's like, man, I kind of remember, but I really didn't

  51. have the time or I was supposed to, but I just kept pushing it

  52. off. This came up, that came up, this

  53. came up. So with that, some of you are

  54. encouraged because you've been doing it.

  55. So shout out to that with that, this was a reminder and we need

  56. you. The ones that that forgot to

  57. lock in and pay attention. And then there's some who might

  58. be kind of convicted because they've been dropping the ball

  59. on doing that. Something your lead pastor asks

  60. you to do. I'm going to be honest with you

  61. all. If you didn't bring your steel

  62. toe boots today, you might need them.

  63. And I also expect y'all to buckle up because that, that

  64. tone of our, our lead passer asking and some doing it feeling

  65. encouraged, some who need to lock in and some who need to be

  66. reminded that bro, your, your lead passer asking do something

  67. for a reason. Those, those feelings and those

  68. three, we're going to probably be sitting in a lot of those

  69. feelings and emotions for the next 4550 minutes.

  70. I'm coming in hot this Sunday. I ain't going to lie.

  71. I even asked Co to pray for me with that.

  72. But I got some things for you. I promise you two things.

  73. You're not alone. You're not alone, and you're

  74. going to be all right. You're not alone and you're

  75. going to be all right. And for those that this is your

  76. first time here and you had no idea what you're supposed to do

  77. that and you're like, man, how do I forget my homework on the

  78. first day? I'm showing up, bro, don't trip.

  79. Don't worry at all because you're not alone and you're

  80. going to be all right. All right, So before we dive in,

  81. let me give you the play by play.

  82. I'm, I'm big on setting expectations and, and giving

  83. people a heads up, especially if I think the conversation might

  84. be kind of tough in, in, in a tough love kind of way.

  85. I just love just kind of giving people like, all right, this is

  86. the framework. This is what we're going to go

  87. through today. We're going to read the word,

  88. then we're going to pray. We're going to then go through

  89. the word and I'm going to break it down.

  90. And then we're going to see how does all this point to Jesus or

  91. what does this have to do with Jesus?

  92. And then after that, we're going to go into what does this even

  93. mean for Frontier Church? That would give you some example

  94. of how I've seen this lived out in the impact it's had on me.

  95. I'm going to give you all some go dudes, some application, and

  96. then we're going to pray and we're going to be out of here.

  97. Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen. Let's pray.

  98. Father, Father, we need you today.

  99. We ask for your for your wisdom as we go on through the text.

  100. We ask that you encourage those who need to be encouraged,

  101. comfort those who need to be comforted, convict those who

  102. need to be convicted by the Father.

  103. Do it all while holding us in your arms and continually to

  104. remind us that you will never leave or forsake us.

  105. Jesus name we pray, Amen. All right, all right, all right,

  106. so let's read. We're reading Titus 21 and 2.

  107. But As for you teach what occurs with sound doctrine.

  108. Older men are to be sober minded, dignified, self

  109. controlled, sound in faith, sound and love and sound and

  110. steadfastness or endurance. I'm just going to read that one

  111. more time. I just, I just want to kind of

  112. sink in on that a little bit. But As for you teach what

  113. accords with sound doctrine? Older men are to be sober

  114. minded, dignified, self-control, sound and faith, sound and love

  115. and sound and steadfastness or endurance.

  116. Let's stand and read that one more time.

  117. Let's stand and read that one more time.

  118. Let's stand and read that one more time.

  119. But As for you teach what is a what accords with sound

  120. doctrine? Older men are to be sober

  121. minded, dignified, self-control, sound and faith, sound and love

  122. and sound and set fastness or endurance.

  123. Heavenly Father, as we read then we go through this again.

  124. We need your wisdom and guidance.

  125. We love you. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

  126. You may be seated. Now before we break this, break

  127. this down a couple things to to kind of set the stage again.

  128. Cole in chapter 1 broke down the relationship between Paul and

  129. Titus, the discipleship relationship, the the fatherly

  130. and son relationship. He then sends Titus to Creed and

  131. Titus is there to help develop the church.

  132. So one of the first thing Paul tells Titus to do is to qualify

  133. and appoint elders. And then Paul goes over those

  134. qualifications. Having church leaders is a must

  135. and is something that needs to happen first, needs to happen

  136. first. Then Paul warns Titus about fake

  137. leaders and fake believers so we can further discern between the

  138. two, between the real and between the fake and to protect

  139. the church. Also, as you, as you probably

  140. can discern, this message is it's geared towards the men in

  141. our church because obviously we're talking about older men.

  142. Crazy. But my ask to to our sisters in

  143. the congregation, please don't check out.

  144. Please don't think none of this matters or applies to you.

  145. Please stay engaged, stay locked in because this will affect the

  146. body of our church. And as a sister in Christ, you

  147. will still have some go do's at the end of this sermon.

  148. So let's go with verse one. But As for you teach what is the

  149. what accords with sound doctrine?

  150. But As for you again, this is pivoting from the many who are

  151. described in verse 10 in chapter 1, the many who are insubording

  152. empty talkers, deceivers, especially those of the

  153. circumcision party. You know the the ones described

  154. again in 16. They profess to know God, but

  155. they deny him by their works, and they're described as being

  156. detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.

  157. We got to understand why that butt is there.

  158. But As for you, Titus, teach what accords with sound

  159. doctrine? Teach.

  160. What does teach mean? To teach is simply defined as to

  161. show or explain to someone how to do something to impart

  162. knowledge or a skill. A good teacher understands the

  163. four types of learners, right? You have your visual learners,

  164. you have your auditory learners, you have your people that learn

  165. just by simply reading and writing, and then you have your

  166. kinesthetic learners. The the people who need to do it

  167. themselves. Me, I'm kind of kinesthetically

  168. hard headed. I need to do it myself and fall

  169. and fail a couple of times for it to really kind of register.

  170. Thank God for his mercy and grace.

  171. So Titus, he's called to show them sound doctrine, preach to

  172. them sound doctrine, have them read about sound doctrine, and

  173. then have them go and live out sound doctrine.

  174. Sound here really just means healthy.

  175. It's going to come up again. So I I need this.

  176. I need this to really stick again.

  177. Sound means healthy. Sound means healthy.

  178. What does sound mean? Come on, now.

  179. Yeah. Now, look, look.

  180. I need y'all to be locked in. What does sound mean?

  181. Amen. Amen.

  182. Amen. Tim Tester says that this

  183. teaching that leads to a spiritual and emotional health.

  184. Titus is to lead his people to a healthy life or a good life

  185. which is characterized by good works.

  186. The good works is evidence of healthy and sound doctrine.

  187. Verse two older men are to be sober minded, dignified or or

  188. worthy of respect, self controlled, sound in faith,

  189. sound in love and sound in steadfastness or endurance.

  190. Older men in the Bible are held with high regard.

  191. They're held to a high standard. They are seen above all,

  192. especially during those ancient times.

  193. It was it was insane for someone to continue to live and and gain

  194. the privilege of having crown of grey.

  195. Like for example Proverbs 1631-A Gray hair is a crown of

  196. splendor. Proverbs 2322 Listen to your

  197. father who gave you life. Do not despise your mother when

  198. she is old. Leviticus 1932 You shall rise

  199. before the Gray haired and show honor to the aged for God, for

  200. your fear your God. I am the Lord aged and being

  201. blessed to have Gray hairs be blessed to be around for some

  202. time. It's something that should be

  203. honored during those times and and even still in in a lot of

  204. eastern culture today. Having an older man that is,

  205. that fits these descriptions was critical and crucial because

  206. they had massive influence on everyone else.

  207. Their word held weight and was held at high regard. 1

  208. commentator says that elders in a church are ordinarily older

  209. men. They are people with experience

  210. of life, living in the faith. There is a proper authority,

  211. again, that comes with age. They've seen some things,

  212. experienced some things. A lot of young people don't know

  213. what you don't know. That's right.

  214. Amen. So again, not everyone lives

  215. long enough to have Grays, wrinkles, experience and wisdom.

  216. But if they fit those categories, we should show them

  217. respect. But I'm here to tell you two

  218. things that the reference of older men in this about this

  219. reference in this text 1 is it's not talking about eldership or

  220. being a pastor. It is referring to members in

  221. the church in the body and the term of older men.

  222. And it's also not simply referring to age, but to also

  223. maturity in the faith. I'll give you an example of this

  224. again. Paul tells Timothy, a leader in

  225. the church, not to let anyone look down on him for his youth,

  226. who was roughly probably in his 30s at that time.

  227. Timothy, like Titus who was sent out by Paul and Timothy was out

  228. there grinding so hard, dealing with so much craziness.

  229. Bro Paul wrote him 2 letters. Another example of this is Job

  230. 32 six through 10. So context, Job's life went into

  231. shambles. His friends, his three friends

  232. plus a young man came to comfort him, refute him and condemn him

  233. to find out what he did as to why his life went down the

  234. tubes. Eliu AKA the young man, was it

  235. actually mad at Job because he had to, He justified himself

  236. rather than justifying God, and then was also mad at his friends

  237. because they couldn't refute anything Job was saying that he

  238. didn't do, but yet they still tried to condemn him.

  239. So what do you say? He replied.

  240. I am young in years while you all are old.

  241. Therefore I was timid, afraid to tell you what I know.

  242. I thought that age should speak and maturity should teach

  243. wisdom, but it is the Spirit in a person, the breath from the

  244. Almighty that gives you anyone understanding.

  245. It is the spirit in a person, the breath from the Almighty

  246. that gives anyone understanding. It is not only the old who are

  247. wise or the elderly who understand how to judge.

  248. After you will cause out everyone, God then speaks right?

  249. God then calls out everyone, reminds Joel who are you to

  250. question anything I do, then tells his three friends, you

  251. must be out your mind talking to my servant Job like that.

  252. You need to repent and then ask Joel to pray for you because I'm

  253. not going to hear it. But God didn't call out the

  254. young man. He didn't ask the young man to

  255. repent. Why?

  256. Because it is the Spirit in a person, the breath from the

  257. Almighty, that gives anyone understanding and wisdom.

  258. So let's say this older slash which spiritually mature men are

  259. to be sober minded, dignified, worthy of respect, self-control,

  260. sound in faith, sound in love, sound the steadfastest and sound

  261. and endurance. So let's let's dive into these

  262. characteristics sober minded sober minded sober minded mean

  263. anything that alters your states after after one consumption.

  264. If you drink something or eat something or do something and

  265. all of a sudden you are no longer sober, you are out there.

  266. Maybe you should stick to 0. If there's anything that alter

  267. your states after 5-6 or whatever, how many consumptions?

  268. Maybe you should only stick to two.

  269. Why? Because you need to be of sober

  270. mind. Not at some of the time.

  271. Not when it feels good. This needs to be your lifestyle.

  272. Yes, Jesus drank wine, but he wasn't out there drunk.

  273. It's a difference. OK, dignified or where they

  274. respect, have integrity, have a work ethic, show respect to

  275. others, Treat people like people.

  276. Better yet, treat people like the image bearers they are.

  277. Treat people like the image bearers they are. self-control.

  278. Know thyself. People think of self-control so

  279. often is hey you can say no to every temptation.

  280. You're just that strong willed. Which yes, that can be true and

  281. that is a factor. But true self-control and truly

  282. knowing thyself is avoiding situations that would put you in

  283. a compromising situation. That's self-control.

  284. So a little bit about me. I have a degree in forensic

  285. psychology. That's why I went to school for

  286. study. Did all the shebang in school

  287. needs to say I, I took what it felt like an endless amount of

  288. like psych classes. Ridiculous, but it was, it was

  289. beneficial. I get it.

  290. But the, the, the reason I bring this up is because during that

  291. time I learned about cognitive behavioral theory, right?

  292. And what that is in short, in short, is a situation occurs, it

  293. impacts your thoughts that then impacts your emotions, that then

  294. impacts your behaviors or your reaction, which then has an

  295. adverse impact on your body, which then again impacts your

  296. thoughts and then the cycle continues.

  297. Cognitive behavior theory. So in the aspect of this of, of

  298. this theory, like when a, when a situation or or triggering event

  299. occurs, like with with some therapists, do it this time he's

  300. like, OK, what, what can we change in your behavior when

  301. something triggering happens or a situation occurs with

  302. practice, What can we change in your behavior that would then

  303. change how your body would react in terms of fight or flight,

  304. which will then change your thoughts on that situation

  305. because you did different actions, which would then impact

  306. your emotions, which ideally would lead to a better result,

  307. right? So why bring that up?

  308. Why is that? What does this have to do with

  309. these, these characteristics we just went over?

  310. I'm here to tell you, you can actually learn to be sober

  311. minded, dignified, where they respect and learn how to have

  312. self-control. You can learn these behaviors

  313. to, to imitate that, to show that there are some people in

  314. your lives. And I'm sure when I say this,

  315. everyone has a vision of somebody.

  316. There's people in your life that already execute these three

  317. things and are not believers. There's people in your lives

  318. that you know who, who are often sober people in your lives that

  319. you know, that are really respectable people.

  320. And, and, and seeing the honorable people, there's people

  321. in your lives that again, have, have that self-control.

  322. You can learn those behaviors and it doesn't mean you're a

  323. believer. But there's a reason that there

  324. are three more virtues. Let's go into them.

  325. You will be sound in faith, sound in love and sound in

  326. steadfastness or endurance. They must be sound.

  327. And what does sound mean again? Look at it one more time.

  328. What does sound mean? Again?

  329. Thank you, thank you, thank you. So you must be healthy in faith,

  330. healthy in love, healthy in steadfastness and endurance,

  331. healthy in faith, healthy in faith first.

  332. We are saved by faith. Faith is first on the list and

  333. it is paramount for a reason. We are saved by our faith.

  334. Someone who is healthy in faith, you know what?

  335. They they have a healthy relationship with God.

  336. Someone who is healthy in faith, what does that look like?

  337. They have a healthy relationship with God.

  338. OK, we'll dive in a little bit deeper, Will.

  339. OK, I got you. Will you say I do that?

  340. So they have a healthy prayer life.

  341. They have a healthy relationship and a constant study of the word

  342. and they have healthy fast rhythms.

  343. They have healthy faith rhythms, healthy in love.

  344. Someone who is healthy in love has a healthy relationship with

  345. God's image bearers. Someone who is healthy in love

  346. has a healthy relationship with God's image bearers.

  347. Well, what does that mean? Well, let's look at First

  348. Corinthians 13, four and seven. What is love?

  349. Well, love is patient. Love is kind.

  350. Love does not envy. Love is not boastful, it is not

  351. arrogant, it is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not

  352. irritable and does not keep a record of wrongs.

  353. Love finds joy and does not find joy in the unrighteousness, but

  354. rejoice in truth. It bears all things, believes

  355. all things, hope all things, endures, all things healthy and

  356. love. It's a healthy relationship with

  357. God's image bearers. You're showing people patience.

  358. You're showing His image bearers kindness.

  359. You're showing them that you do not envy.

  360. You show them that you're not boastful.

  361. You show them that you're not arrogant.

  362. You're not rude to them. You're not self seeking.

  363. You're not irritable. You don't keep a record of their

  364. wrongs. You find you don't find joy in

  365. their own righteousness, but you rejoice in the truth and you

  366. bear they're things you believe they're things you hope in Jesus

  367. and you endure all things. Healthy love means healthy

  368. relational love with God's image bearers, healthy and steadfast

  369. and endurance. You must be spiritually tough

  370. living in this dark broken world and being a believer which is so

  371. counter cultural in this world. If this week didn't show you

  372. that just how polarizing this week has been and it is a

  373. challenge. Persecution is promised and we

  374. are told to pick up our cross and follow Him.

  375. You need to be healthy and endurance to deal with the sin

  376. of the world. You need to be healthy and

  377. endurance to deal with the sin of the world.

  378. Being healthy in these virtues does not again equate to being

  379. perfect in these virtues. That's what I mean is like you.

  380. It's not that it's an expectation.

  381. You show this 24/7 that you are the righteous of the righteous

  382. because Romans tells us no, not one is righteous but it must be

  383. seen or associated with your character most of the time.

  384. But because we can't be perfect, thank God there was somebody

  385. that was perfect that executed these, that was Jesus.

  386. He was the perfect example of the mature believer.

  387. He lived a life clear mind and always staying on the path.

  388. Also being 100% God needs to say he was dignified and lived a

  389. life worthy of respect. He had also had to be self

  390. controlled again because he's 100% God and he allowed himself

  391. to be disrespected and humiliated from creatures made

  392. from the dirt. You have to have some

  393. self-control to do that. He was also sound in faith, in a

  394. constant relationship with the Father, praying, fasting,

  395. teaching Scripture, and emphasizing the heart of

  396. Scripture, not just reading the words.

  397. He was also the embodiment of love, obeying the Father out of

  398. love, sacrificing himself out of love for the world, for God's

  399. image bearers, and also being 100% man.

  400. He endured. He endured being beaten.

  401. He endured being humiliated. He endured nails in His feet.

  402. He endured His hands being pierced.

  403. He endured a crown of thorns. He endured salt being thrown in

  404. His wombs. He endured the sins of the

  405. world. He endured being forsaken by the

  406. Father the only time He cried out and died.

  407. Why do you do this? So He can rise on the third day

  408. and free you from the bondage of sin and send down the Holy

  409. Spirit after His ascension. This is paramount because though

  410. there are tools that you can learn, we talk about cognitive

  411. behavior theory. Those are our tools and

  412. practices in ways you can learn to be the first three to get

  413. those qualities. Only the Holy Spirit can give

  414. you faith, only the Holy Spirit can give you love, and only the

  415. Holy Spirit can give you endurance.

  416. So with the help of the Holy Spirit, you will grow in faith,

  417. you will grow in love, you will grow in endurance, and then the

  418. cognitive 3 will come, AKA. Let's call this spiritual

  419. cognitive theory. As the Holy Spirit grows and

  420. mature you, He will convict, encourage and morph your

  421. behaviors, your wants, your thoughts, your desires and

  422. change them. So when the situation happens,

  423. when a trigger occurs, next thing you know you're more sober

  424. minded, you have more self-control and you're treating

  425. the people of God and God's image bears with dignity and

  426. respect. But why do this?

  427. Why? Why focus on older or mature

  428. Christians? Why did the Holy Spirit come to

  429. do this? Why?

  430. Why even do this in this in the 1st place?

  431. Some of your immediate response because we are blessed to be in

  432. a theologically sound congregation in church.

  433. Some of your immediate response when I said why does the Holy

  434. Spirit does this, in this why did Jesus sends the send us the

  435. Holy Spirit? Some of your, your first thought

  436. was sanctification and to be more like Jesus.

  437. Again, sanctification and to be more like Jesus.

  438. And I'm here to tell you, yes, yes, that is true.

  439. But that's only half of it. It's more of a a yes.

  440. And Jesus tells you why he's sitting his people at Helper.

  441. He tells you also what you're supposed to do when he ascends.

  442. He tells us in Matthew 2819 through 20.

  443. Go therefore make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in

  444. the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, teaching them

  445. to observe everything I've commanded you.

  446. And remember I'm with you always to the end of age.

  447. Jesus, it's telling you why. And he also did this perfectly.

  448. He walked with the 12, he ate with the 12, he taught the 12.

  449. He corrected the 12. He showed the 12 what right

  450. looks like went over scriptures with the 12.

  451. So let's so so he showed them how to live.

  452. He preached them how to live out the word.

  453. He had them read and study the word and then he had them go do

  454. it and live out the word and then he taught them to do the

  455. same for others and equip them. This wasn't a a once in a week,

  456. once a week thing. This wasn't every blue moon

  457. thing of doing this. This was truly living life

  458. together, a true investment in a relationship, a discipleship

  459. relationship, a discipling relationship.

  460. And Jesus did this for a reason. So then now let's go back.

  461. How does this what does this the heck this got to do with with

  462. Titus one and two will how how did we get here?

  463. Well, Paul is telling Titus is telling this to Titus and, and,

  464. and pointing out qualities in older or mature men in the

  465. church and what they should have so they can pour into younger

  466. men so they can pour into younger men and make disciples.

  467. So he's telling Titus so Titus can see what men in the church

  468. have Holy Spirit and be able to discern that and see who are

  469. qualified. So he can then direct them and

  470. show them how to delete it and show it to other younger men to

  471. make more older and mature men. This is crucial for a healthy

  472. church. We have to reach 1 and teach

  473. one. Yes, people in our body are all

  474. gifted in different ways to serve our church.

  475. Absolutely, absolutely. Some sing, some are great with

  476. their hands and handy. Some are great with landscape.

  477. Some are passionate with kids and roots.

  478. Thank God for those people. Some people are great at

  479. hospitality, some people are are great at teaching.

  480. Some people can are great cooks and can do all the things.

  481. Some are business savvy. Some some are just savvy in

  482. other ways that can help other people.

  483. There's tons of gifts. Tons of gifts.

  484. And yes, we are all we all have spiritual gifts and uniquely

  485. made to further God's Kingdom. But every last one of us were

  486. given a mission from Jesus to go and make disciples of all

  487. nations. Every last one of us, we're

  488. called to do that. So what does, what does

  489. discipleship look like? I know I'm, I'm, I'm tell you

  490. right now I'm about to go over what discipleship look like

  491. really quickly. I'm gonna give you like a, a

  492. 30,000 foot overview of it. I know coal is going to be

  493. probably diving a lot deeper into this in a couple weeks and

  494. I ain't trying to take all this Thunder, but we need, if I'm

  495. going to keep using this word discipleship, I got to make sure

  496. we're all on the same page of what this means.

  497. So for discipleship 1, you show them how to live out God's word

  498. in your everyday life. They must see it when you're

  499. killing it. They must see when you're on top

  500. of your game, when you have healthy rhythms, when everything

  501. is going smooth, How you rejoice, how you see his glory

  502. in everyday life, how you study, how you pray, how you interact

  503. with God's people, how you fast, how you interact with your

  504. family. They must see that, and they

  505. also must see how you repent when you fall short.

  506. They also must see when you fall and when you fail.

  507. How do you reconcile relationships?

  508. How do you deal with seasons when you feel God is silent?

  509. How do you endure hardships? How do you push through when you

  510. don't have any answers? How you lament?

  511. How do you try to bounce back when you're having a low season

  512. and not the best rhythms at that moment?

  513. You are not perfect. There was only one man that was

  514. perfect and they must see you endure two.

  515. You must preach to them the Word.

  516. You must speak the Word into their lives.

  517. Go over scriptures. Teach the scriptures to them.

  518. The Bible is a crucial part of that.

  519. You have to open up the word if you're discipling somebody.

  520. It is not just watching a video on YouTube, it is not an

  521. Instagram Reel, it is not a TikTok, and y'all go over that.

  522. You have to open up the scriptures and go over the word

  523. with them. Three, have them read the Word.

  524. Have them take notes, discuss their thoughts, help them

  525. understand what they read. You must teach them how to own

  526. their faith, how to own their study of the Word. 4 Walk with

  527. them in their lives as they attempt to live out the Word.

  528. Walk with them, encourage them, speak hard truths and love to

  529. them. And when they are mature and you

  530. walk with them as they'd also walk with someone younger in the

  531. faith again, reach one, teach one.

  532. Have them make disciples. Train them up so they can make

  533. disciples. This isn't just a random meet

  534. up, a random chill random hangout, but a true investment

  535. in someone's life and opening your life to someone, not just

  536. showing them the pretty Hallmark pictures, movies of it.

  537. Show them your life. So what does this mean for

  538. Frontier, right? Let's be honest, we're a very

  539. young church age wise. Again, we're blessed and

  540. privileged to have some some older gospel centered men in our

  541. in our congregation with a crown of grey.

  542. But All in all, the average age of our church is probably from

  543. 27 to 34. We're a young church and that's

  544. a give or take estimation. Again, think of older men as

  545. mature men in faith. I'm going to give you one last

  546. example of this in the Bible, Hebrews 513 through 14.

  547. Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the

  548. message about righteousness because he is an infant.

  549. But solid food is for the mature, for those whose senses

  550. have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.

  551. Again, maturity is not determined by age, but for those

  552. who have since been trained to distinguish between God's Word

  553. in the broken world's word. Frontier Church.

  554. My fear, my angst is that some of us in this church have been

  555. trained to distinguish between good and evil.

  556. Again, we have a church that has strong theology and know all the

  557. answers in this book, know how to discern what's God's Word and

  558. what's not God's Word. Some of us are mature men and

  559. yet we're choosing to remain on milk when we are ready for solid

  560. food. We are choosing to remain on

  561. milk and be infants and be lazy when we are ready for solid

  562. food. There are men in their 70s that

  563. may have just came to Christ. They may be only being a

  564. Christian for for a week or a month or even a year and they're

  565. only able to drink milk and that is fine.

  566. That is OK. Nothing wrong with that.

  567. I'm not talking to any new believers.

  568. I don't care what your age is. I'm not talking to a new

  569. believer, and you are welcome, my brother.

  570. But there are men in our churches that are in their 20s,

  571. their 30s, their 40s, and even some in their early 50s who are

  572. ready for solid food, that are mature, that do fit these

  573. qualities. That the Holy Spirit has changed

  574. their life drastically, that has shaped them, that has mold them.

  575. And they know the difference between God's will, His word,

  576. and what the broken world is telling us what to do.

  577. And they are sitting on their thumbs and drinking milk.

  578. We need to lock in and wake up. The world is counting on us to

  579. do that. We cannot come here with the

  580. mind and the heart to just check a box.

  581. I served today, check. I went to CG this week, check.

  582. I looked at the verse of the day today.

  583. Check. I was a good Christian this

  584. week. We must remember the Great

  585. Commission. We must remember the Great

  586. Commission. Let's read again Matthew 2819

  587. and 20. Go therefore, and make disciples

  588. of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,

  589. baptize them in the name of the Son, and baptizing them in the

  590. name of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe

  591. everything I have commanded you. And remember I'm with you always

  592. to the end of age. So if that's the Great

  593. Commission, I'm ready for solid food.

  594. So who are y'all discipling then?

  595. And yes, some of us are fathers and have families.

  596. And yes, we are called to disciple our children and lead

  597. our families. Yes, we are also called to show

  598. them how to pour into others outside of the home.

  599. We are also called to show them how to love others.

  600. What does a spiritual father and son relationship look like?

  601. We have to demonstrate that. So your child shouldn't be your

  602. excuse for not doing it, but it should be another reason,

  603. another motivation to show them what discipleship looks like

  604. outside the home. What is being a man of God looks

  605. like. But I want to emphasize again,

  606. if you if, if you're feel, if you feel that you're still in

  607. the situation and it will. I'm still so new.

  608. My faith, I, I, I barely I, I just learned John 316 yesterday.

  609. I, I, I'm still right. I need to just be drinking milk.

  610. My brother, my sister. That is OK.

  611. I just have one question for you, though.

  612. Who's discipling you so that you can become mature, so then you

  613. can go and make disciples again? We're blessed to be part of a

  614. church with a congregation with strong theology.

  615. But how are we living it out? James 226 tells us.

  616. For just as the body without the Spirit is dead, also faith

  617. without works is dead. The do say ratio has to equal

  618. up. So how can we claim to have

  619. strong theology? How can we claim to have sound

  620. faith, sound and love for Jesus if we are not living out?

  621. Matthew 28/19/20. You can't say one thing and not

  622. do the other. That was literally the person

  623. you called your Lord and Savior, the last thing he told you to do

  624. before he ascended. The reason he sent you the

  625. helper. But church, I, I know

  626. discipleship can't be uncomfortable.

  627. You're letting somebody in. You got to be vulnerable.

  628. It's hard, it's messy, it can be inconvenient, it can be

  629. mentally, physically, emotionally taxing.

  630. You might might not even see the full fruit of all the time and

  631. emotional and mental investment you made in this person and you

  632. might not even see the fruit of it.

  633. It's hard. But what does that last line and

  634. Matthew 20/28/20 say? And remember I Jesus and with

  635. you always to the end of the age.

  636. You are not alone in this. The Holy Spirit is with you,

  637. Jesus is with you, the Father is with you.

  638. The passions at this church are with you.

  639. Your brothers and your sisters in Christ are with you.

  640. You are not alone in this walk. This this can bring us to our

  641. big idea for for the for these men in our church.

  642. Sorry my son, that crazy sometimes.

  643. Mature men are to have a sound biblical life to adhere to the

  644. Great Commission. Say it one time.

  645. Mature men are to have a sound biblical life to adhere to the

  646. Great Commission. And I, like I told y'all to play

  647. by play. I want to give y'all some some

  648. examples of mature men that were in my life that had major

  649. impacts at the time and and even the time when I I should have

  650. sought out a mature man in the faith in my in my life.

  651. So the first one back in, back in Louisville, those who don't

  652. know me and my family moved from Louisville, KY 2 years ago.

  653. So back in Louisville, me and my wife, we were not a, it was, it

  654. was a, we had a season where we were just beefing and not in a

  655. great place. Honestly, I couldn't even tell

  656. you what we was beefing over. Who knows, you know, I probably

  657. left something on the stove or something, who knows it.

  658. I don't even know what the beef was.

  659. That's, that's, that's not really the point.

  660. But I was definitely in my feelings.

  661. I was emotional. I'm emotional.

  662. But I met with a mature man from our church and his name was

  663. Lavar Bro. I'm my man's was probably the

  664. coolest cat I've ever met in my life.

  665. Bro still my dude, cool dude. And like he like meets all the

  666. characteristics and and and Titus of what they describe what

  667. an older man should be. So like I look, bro, that was

  668. that was my guy. So I'm I'm I'm talking to him.

  669. I'm hot, like I'm snapping, I'm hot.

  670. I'm I'm telling him my plight, how I'm just, you know, so

  671. wronged and I'm just the perfect husband.

  672. All the things like I'm, I'm in my feelings snapping like

  673. anybody else does. And this man, as I'm as I'm

  674. talking, he starts laughing at me just laughing.

  675. And I'm like now I'm like, Paul, It's like, bro, what you what

  676. you laughing for? I just, I just told you like,

  677. like this is hurting me right now.

  678. And you, you laughing. And he goes.

  679. He was like, look, my brother. I mean, I mean no disrespect.

  680. He was like, and I know, I, I know how you feel right now and,

  681. and he was like, it's and I know you're like you really going

  682. through and he was like, it's, it's just so funny bro, because

  683. like me and my wife went through the same exact thing 15 years

  684. ago. And then after he says that and

  685. points that out and he is he immediately able even to tell me

  686. my feelings that I couldn't even articulate at the time, he then

  687. proceeds to tell me and remind me how God calls us his husband

  688. to love our wives and how we're called to work through

  689. struggles. That conversation was such a

  690. transformational time and me and my wife's marriage.

  691. That conversation was so freeing in a great spiritual, cognitive,

  692. behavioral mindset shift. Mindset shift.

  693. Another example, last year as I saw my baby out here screaming

  694. we found out that we were having a baby and the reason that's

  695. crazy is because I have a 13 year old boy and 11 year old

  696. daughter. I've been need to say I've been

  697. out the game for a little bit before having another baby and

  698. y'all I was freaking out. I was stressed, overwhelmed.

  699. How am I going to do this again? What am I going to do?

  700. How can we even afford this again?

  701. I haven't dealt with this for 10 years and a mature man by the

  702. name of Carlos Sims sat me down and and told me not to be

  703. anxious but rather to trust in the one who blessed me with this

  704. child and truly helped calm me and reassure me that he will

  705. never leave or forsake me. He also reminded me when we

  706. first joined Frontier, one of my things where I used to say was,

  707. man, I don't know how I'm going to relate to many, to relate to

  708. many families out here because most of our church has little

  709. little kids and all mine are like grown and self-sufficient.

  710. Yeah, be careful. What you what you ask for.

  711. Nah, you're a blessing. I love him.

  712. I love him. Look at him walking down the

  713. hall. Look.

  714. Come on, bro. No.

  715. Hey. And then lastly, last example of

  716. when I when I should have sought a mature man.

  717. This year, October 12th, it will be 10 years since my mother

  718. passed my my children don't really have memories of her and

  719. my blessing of a child that God gave me will never know her will

  720. be 10 years October 12th in May of that of 2015.

  721. So that May of that year me and my mom had a had a massive

  722. fight. The argument that didn't end

  723. well with us talking to each other and the next time I was

  724. ever going to see her or even speak to her was going to be in

  725. late September when she was on life support and had her chain

  726. in her throat and I would never be able to hear her voice again.

  727. I let my pride, my arrogance take precious time away from you

  728. and my mother. I should have sought a mature

  729. man. It's a point to me and disciple

  730. me who I'm sure would have told me to reconcile and not because

  731. we don't know if tomorrow's promise or not, not because of

  732. you never know when anyone's last day.

  733. That's that's not why I would tell someone to reconcile.

  734. And I know a mature man in the faith would tell me to

  735. reconcile. That's not the why.

  736. The why is because we're called to do it as followers of Christ.

  737. We're called to be sound, in love, healthy, in love with

  738. image bearers. Those 3 examples are crucial

  739. Church. That's what that can practically

  740. look like in our lives. We have to stop being lazy and

  741. choosing milk. We can't in one breath say we

  742. are mature and we're theologically strong and sound

  743. and we are not living Matthew 28 in making disciples, in

  744. furthering the Kingdom. I promise y'all I would give you

  745. all some go dues and I and I promise I'll I don't need it

  746. anyway. Smooth.

  747. You see how smooth I did that? I promise you I'll get out you

  748. all here. So this week you'll go dues my

  749. brothers in Christ. Or to evaluate yourself, reach

  750. out to a leader in our church and have them evaluate you.

  751. Are you choosing milk? Are you ready for solid food or

  752. are? Or are you only in a position

  753. where all you can have right now is milk?

  754. To pray and ask God to help you think through discipleship and

  755. discern where you are. Should you be discipling?

  756. Who you should be discipling, And even if you are mature, even

  757. if you will consider yourself strong and mature and you're

  758. executing all those things, you still should have someone

  759. pouring into you. Iron sharpens iron.

  760. So again, even if you are discipling, who's discipling

  761. you, Wives, talk through this with your husbands and pray for

  762. them and pray for them. And my sisters, encourage your

  763. brothers in Christ to reach out to be discipled or to disciples,

  764. someone or both. And my sisters, please pray for

  765. us. Imagine the church or growth

  766. would have if we did this. I assure you we would have more

  767. CGS. You want to know why?

  768. Because we would have more leaders and more leaders would

  769. come out of our CGS because they're becoming mature.

  770. And ready to lead. We would have so many men in the

  771. leadership courses that that Cole puts on at our church, that

  772. Cole would be overwhelmed. Overwhelmed because we have so

  773. many men beating down his door ready for this solid food.

  774. I'll tell you another thing. The vibe in the field of Iowa

  775. needs good dudes. That conference, oh, it would

  776. hit even different and go even further and the conference would

  777. also be too big to be held in this building.

  778. All men in our church, all men in our church would have a

  779. strong spiritual father figure that they can go to and lean on.

  780. All men in our church. Cole was talking about revival.

  781. Now imagine if we did this, the revival we would really have in

  782. our city, how many people we would have fight for joy in the

  783. joy of Des Moines. Let's pray.

  784. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you. Thank you for your word, thank

  785. you for your son, thank you for the Holy Spirit.

  786. Father, we love you and we need you.

  787. As we worship, as we leave, as we even eventually get

  788. dismissed, please keep our hearts.

  789. Our mind stayed on You Father, and help us build a life where

  790. You are our foundation. That when people see us and

  791. interact with us, they see and feel that we have a healthy

  792. faith and relationship with you. A healthy love and relationship

  793. with your image bears and a healthy, strong, firm foundation

  794. in you. So we can endure this dark and

  795. cruel world. Jesus and we prayer.
