  1. Good morning, good morning. Thank you.

  2. Appreciate you, Andrew. We're going to give me some

  3. encouragement there. What up everybody?

  4. I'm up here again and it is, I want to also thank you all for

  5. coming. I know whether it's supposed to

  6. be getting crazy later in this afternoon, but we serve a good

  7. God, Amen. We serve a God that's in

  8. control, Amen. And we serve as sovereign God,

  9. Amen. So because that I'm still going

  10. to take my time. So with that being said, y'all I

  11. am will again, I have the privilege of being part of the

  12. preaching team up here from time to time.

  13. And we're still continue to trudge through Genesis, but we

  14. are in Genesis 2 now and we're almost done with Genesis 2.

  15. We have like 2 more weeks after this one and then Easter.

  16. Amen. Bro I don't think y'all heard

  17. what I said. We just talked about the the

  18. resurrection of of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  19. Amen. Cool cool cool.

  20. But no I, I again I I do appreciate that we are taking

  21. our time through Genesis. I do believe it is one of the

  22. most well known books of the Bible, but also one of the most

  23. underappreciated books in the Bible.

  24. So I'm I'm truly pumped. We're taking our time.

  25. So I want to share with you all. Yesterday was my mom's birthday.

  26. She would have been 64 years old.

  27. Still a tough day. She died October 12th, 2015 and

  28. after taking her off life support by by her request, I

  29. watched her breathed her last breath.

  30. Fast forward 7-8 months later, one of my fraternity brothers

  31. got married and it was actually one of the the first weddings me

  32. and my my wife attended as a married couple.

  33. And that was that was cool. And we were put at the table

  34. with like all my like people who pledged, when I pledged and even

  35. friends and people who played football with it was just a a

  36. great table man. And it was beautiful time filled

  37. with like laughter, telling those stories, jokes, you, you

  38. name even jokes about people at the wedding.

  39. It was it was a great time, honestly.

  40. And then now if that's where we're at the we're at the

  41. reception, right? It was a beautiful wedding.

  42. We're at the reception and the bride just finished her dance

  43. with her father and they had like a little cute little

  44. handshake. It was, it was bro.

  45. It was dope. No, no, no, lots out there.

  46. And then it's time for the groom and his mother to dance.

  47. And the song they're dancing to was Mama by Boys and Men, a song

  48. from Mama with the wounds of my mom's death still very fresh.

  49. I remember I just quietly got up to go outside while it was still

  50. going on because I didn't want to.

  51. I didn't want my grief and my sadness and to become a

  52. distraction and take away from a beautiful moment of one of my my

  53. brother's blessings of a day. And Alana, at first she, she was

  54. going to get up with me and I told her I was like, no babe,

  55. like chill like and enjoy the time.

  56. Like I'll just, I'll just kick it.

  57. And everyone saw me get up and I just, I might just go to the

  58. bathroom real quick. Like, I kept it real chill and

  59. then I walked outside so I can just kind of grieve by myself.

  60. Stand, if you're able, for the reading of God's Word.

  61. We're in Genesis 219 now, out of the ground.

  62. The Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of

  63. the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would

  64. call them. And whatever the man called

  65. every living creature, that was its name.

  66. The man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the

  67. heavens, every beast of the field.

  68. But for Adam, there was no found.

  69. There was not found a helper fit for him.

  70. Dear Heavenly Father, as we read through this text, I ask that

  71. you hold my hand through it all and hold me tight as that.

  72. As we dive deeper into this, we're reminded of you being a

  73. triune God. I ask that you give us wisdom.

  74. Convict those who need to be convicted, encourage those who

  75. need to be encouraged, and draw near to those who have drawn far

  76. from you. Father, just give a hug and hold

  77. tight. In Jesus name we pray.

  78. Amen. You may be seated cool.

  79. Before diving into this text, let's do a little review.

  80. We're going to start actually in Genesis 1/2.

  81. The earth was without form and void and darkness was over the

  82. face of the deep in the Spirit of God, the Spirit of God, the

  83. Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

  84. The Holy Spirit is present in hovering over the face of the

  85. waters. Then the Almighty God created

  86. light, separated it from the darkness, and God called God

  87. named the light day and the darkness night, naming them,

  88. thus showing His dominion and sovereignty.

  89. He then separated the expands, called the expands heaven, again

  90. showing His dominion and sovereignty.

  91. Then He made the land and calling the land, naming the

  92. land earth, and made the waters gather and calling them and

  93. naming them. See again showing His dominion

  94. and the sovereignty. Then He created vegetation

  95. plants, He created the seasons, He filled the seas, the skies

  96. and land with life. Then he says in Genesis 126, Let

  97. us make man in our image after our likeness, and let them have

  98. dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the

  99. heavens, the livestock all over the earth and every creepeth

  100. thing that creeps on the earth. Let us in our image, us our now.

  101. I'm not a literary savant like coal.

  102. I didn't. I didn't go to college to become

  103. a language arts teacher in high school.

  104. Not my thing. Thank God we have a leader that

  105. is like that. And I'm definitely not a

  106. wordsmith who can beautifully articulate all scripture and

  107. give you words that literally hit your heart like Casey did

  108. today. Reading liturgy.

  109. Not not my gifting, but I know one thing.

  110. I know that us in the word our are plural words.

  111. I know that much. And this is showing a

  112. trinitarian God. That's a big word case.

  113. This God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are

  114. all present. John 11 confirms Jesus being

  115. there because he says in the beginning was the Word and the

  116. Word was with God and the Word was God the Word being Jesus.

  117. Again, the Holy Spirit is already confirmed there in

  118. Genesis 1-2 and then it says let us make men make man an hour

  119. image. This is illustrating that the

  120. Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit have been in perfect

  121. relationship since before time was created.

  122. The three in one God made an image bearer in the likeness of

  123. God to have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of

  124. the heavens, the livestocks that animals, every living thing that

  125. creepeth on the earth. The Lord God also gave that

  126. image bearer Job. He put the man, the image bearer

  127. in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

  128. The Triune God again created a creature from the dirt in his

  129. image in his image. The definition of the word image

  130. is a representation of an external form of a person or a

  131. thing. In art.

  132. The general impression that a person, organization or product

  133. presents to the public, that's an image.

  134. God gave this image bearer dominion than a task and upon

  135. doing that God immediately proclaimed and declares it is

  136. not good for man to be alone. Why?

  137. Because God knows we are relational beings made to be in

  138. the likeness of a relational God who has been in perfect

  139. relationship since before time was created.

  140. This foundational truth is why prolonged isolation destroys us.

  141. To further emphasize this and show that we are relational

  142. beings. According to the US Center of

  143. Disease Control and Prevention, AKA the CDC, social isolation

  144. and loneliness can increase a person risk for depression,

  145. anxiety, suicide tendencies, and self harm.

  146. Some of you already guessed that much.

  147. Probably some of you probably experienced that and seen that.

  148. Some of you already think like, yeah, well, that yeah, that's

  149. that's basic knowledge. That kind of makes sense.

  150. But it also goes on to say that it also increases the chances of

  151. heart disease, stroke and a heart attack due to the increase

  152. of cortisol levels due to isolation.

  153. Also increase your chances of dementia, type 2 diabetes and

  154. additional chronic diseases. Prolonged isolation literally

  155. mores and changes your brain and rewires it drastically.

  156. So it's not just and it doesn't just affect you mentally, it

  157. literally effects you physically being isolated.

  158. Now to to recap the rewind. Godfather, Son, Holy Spirit

  159. created the heavens the earth showed, emphasized dominion and

  160. sovereignty through naming, and then created man in His image

  161. again. Image is the defined as a

  162. representation of an external form of a person or a thing, a

  163. general impression that a person, organization, or a

  164. product presents to the public. That's what the image is.

  165. He created something in His image.

  166. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit then gave man dominion

  167. over the animals and a task to work and keep the garden.

  168. Then God the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit then proclaimed

  169. it is not good for man to be alone.

  170. And we just dove into some of the ramifications of that, of

  171. what isolation is. Now let's dive into the text.

  172. Genesis 219 Now out of the ground, the Lord God formed

  173. every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens, and

  174. brought them to the man to see what he would call them.

  175. And whatever the man called every living creature that was

  176. his its name, God brought them to the man to see what he would

  177. call them. This is God welcoming Adam to

  178. the creative process, setting everything up for Adam to

  179. execute it. Then God proceeds to watch and

  180. affirm Adam, his image bearer, executing his dominion in

  181. sovereignty over the animals and naming the new creations.

  182. Scripture says this. God brought them to the man to

  183. see what he would call them. God inviting Adam and giving him

  184. dominion and whatever the man called every living creature,

  185. that was his name. This is God affirming Adam.

  186. You said this is the name. This is the name, One commentary

  187. says by by giving names to the animals, Adam is doing two

  188. things. He is first recognizing the

  189. categories in in which things come, bringing them together,

  190. what belongs together, discriminating between things

  191. that differ. He is thus beginning to order

  192. his world. He is also recognizing that the

  193. animals environment has been given to him by God.

  194. These two are God's creations and bring some order by

  195. allocating names. Adam is reflecting something of

  196. the image of God which was described in chapter 1.

  197. The review we just had as having dominion over the rest of

  198. creation. But second, in the ancient

  199. world, name giving was an exercise in sovereignty.

  200. Adam is taking authority over the rest of the created order.

  201. The responsibility for stewardship in the natural order

  202. now extends to the animal world, and the man takes it on again.

  203. Adam is executing A sovereign act that God did before Adam was

  204. made, calling and laming the light day, the darkest night,

  205. the land, earth expands, heaven, the water, seas, and what God

  206. also continues to do after Adam changing Abram to Abraham.

  207. Genesis 17, four through 8. Behold, my covenant is with you,

  208. and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations.

  209. No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be

  210. Abraham, for I have made you a father of a multitude of

  211. nations. I will make you exceedingly

  212. fruitful. I will make you into a nation,

  213. and kings shall come from you, and I will establish my covenant

  214. between me and you and your offsprings, offsprings and after

  215. you throughout their generations, for an everlasting

  216. covenant to be God to you and to your offspring after you.

  217. And I will give you into your offspring after you the land to

  218. your sojournings for joining all the land of Canaan for

  219. everlasting possession. And I will be there.

  220. God. I struggled.

  221. God in this act is claiming Adam's life and making him new,

  222. but stowing him a new name. I need to start lock in with him

  223. because we're going to go through this again because God

  224. does this again with Jacob. Genesis 3227 through 29.

  225. And he said to him, What is your name?

  226. And he said Jacob. Then he said, your name shall no

  227. longer be called Jacob, but Israel.

  228. For you have striven with God and with men, and have

  229. prevailed. Then Jacob asked him, Please

  230. tell me your name. But he said, Why is that you ask

  231. my name? And there he God blessed him

  232. Israel. God changes his name.

  233. Jacob. That meant deceiver to Israel.

  234. That means 1 struggled with God. This change in this blessing

  235. gave Jacob the courage to be obedient to God and return to

  236. his homeland, even facing persecution from his brother.

  237. The power of God changing the name and identity of something.

  238. The act of naming is Adam executing his dominion over the

  239. animals and still being an image bearer of God.

  240. Let's continue in verse 20, Genesis 220.

  241. The man gave name, saw the livestock to the birds of the

  242. heavens, to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was

  243. not a found. There was not found a helper fit

  244. for him. As Adam is naming these animals,

  245. he he realizes something. He realized that P is different.

  246. One commentary says that Adam gives these names.

  247. But Adam didn't name any other animal after himself.

  248. He didn't call any other animal man or or human or of my

  249. likeness. By this we understand that he

  250. understood that he was essentially different from the

  251. animals. They were not images or image

  252. bearers of God, but he was. He knew again that he's not like

  253. them. He understood that he can even

  254. see that they don't have the same task as he has.

  255. They don't have the same relationship with God that he

  256. has. They don't have the same

  257. dominion. They don't have the same

  258. calling. They don't have the same task.

  259. By God bringing the atom, the animals to Adam, showing Adam

  260. the the animals in pairs. Adam is tirelessly naming all of

  261. them. But because God is bringing them

  262. to him in pairs and showing them, Adam now realizes what God

  263. had already proclaimed, that it is not good for man to be alone.

  264. He sees that unlike the animals, there is no equal or fit for

  265. him. No one with similar standing

  266. meaning beneath God but above the animals.

  267. No one that shares his image, no partner, no helper, no one fit

  268. for him but God. Everyone say but God, no, we're

  269. going to say this one more time, but God.

  270. But God is using this realization to to prepare him to

  271. receive a beautiful gift that I believe Cole is going to talk

  272. way more about next week. So don't get excited excited.

  273. That's all you're going to get for me about that today.

  274. So what does this mean for Frontier Church?

  275. Because you know, it's like, because we're like you, you

  276. didn't really tee it up for marriage.

  277. I didn't. You didn't emphasize or anything

  278. like, hey, what husband's supposed to do here?

  279. I didn't nor like last week talk about wives or womanhood.

  280. What's that's going to look like?

  281. Show didn't do that either and you didn't even talk about like

  282. life as a single person. Like we've been going through

  283. these past couple of weeks like this is the middle between

  284. marriage. Like you didn't do that.

  285. You're right. I sure didn't do that either.

  286. So what the heck does Adam being an image bearer, Adam having a

  287. task and Adam knowing it is not good for man to be alone, that

  288. he needed a helper. What does that have to do with

  289. us right now if we're not talking about any of that?

  290. Besides, it's just being a biblical history lesson.

  291. I'm happy you asked Will. Well church.

  292. Jesus came to earth and lived a perfect life, fully man, fully

  293. God. He was tortured, he was

  294. humiliated and was forsaken by the Father, who he has been in

  295. perfect community and perfect relationship with since before

  296. time was created. He died, was sent to hell after

  297. taking on all of our sins, our transgressions, knowing the

  298. absolute worst thing we will ever do, seeing us at our

  299. lowest, and still said you are worth it my child, and rose from

  300. the dead so that we can be made anew.

  301. Second Corinthians 517 tells us. Therefore, if anyone is in

  302. Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away.

  303. Behold the newest come. My uncle used to say that every

  304. Sunday growing up Jesus sacrifice made us new creations

  305. on the inside. A new internal image bearer.

  306. How you you could even say Jesus then gave us his new internal

  307. image bearers a task. Matthew 2818 through 20.

  308. All authority in heaven and on the earth has been given to me.

  309. Go therefore make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in

  310. the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching

  311. them to observe all that I have commanded you, and behold, I am

  312. with you always to the end of age.

  313. He also tells us the 2 great commandments to to live by, so

  314. our internal change is seen on the outside so we can be

  315. holistically image bearers of God.

  316. In Matthew 2237 through 39. You shall love the Lord God with

  317. all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

  318. And the second one is like it. You shall love your neighbor as

  319. you love yourself. So Jesus being God, made us new,

  320. made us closer internal image bearers.

  321. Jesus also being God, knew that we could not do this alone, so

  322. he sent us the Helper, the Holy Spirit, to guide us, to convict

  323. us, to encourage us, to write scripture on our hearts, to

  324. speak through us, to give us wisdom, to give us

  325. understanding, to teach us Lovejoy, peace, patience,

  326. kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and how

  327. to be self controlled. Let me make this correlation

  328. even even clearer and make this correlation of the passage of of

  329. Adam to us today and the Holy Spirit and our Helper even

  330. clearer. Just like when God presented the

  331. animals to Adam, and God had already knew that it was not

  332. good for man to be alone, and he was already planning to give

  333. Adam a helper, God brought the animals to Adam to show him them

  334. in pairs so he can realize or be enlightened that it was not good

  335. for him to be alone. Unlike Adam, God doesn't walk

  336. clearly as clearly. We don't see his footsteps as

  337. clearly as Adam did because he walked next to Adam and he

  338. engaged with Adam. But also, unlike Adam, we have

  339. the Holy Spirit, we have God dwelling within us.

  340. And because the Holy Spirit is God and was there in the

  341. beginning, just like in the Garden, the Holy Spirit reveals

  342. things to us, help us discern, but rather giving the glory to

  343. God or giving the glory and thanking the Holy Spirit.

  344. We call these bouts of revelation, wisdom and

  345. understanding, epiphanies, inspiration, or even self

  346. revelation as if we connected the dots by our own power as a

  347. new internal image bearer. We are also now part of a family

  348. of brothers and sisters in Christ who have the same

  349. admission or tasks, that have similar attributes, the similar

  350. positional standing, who are also image bearers, who also

  351. have the Holy Spirit. This family is to encourage us,

  352. Proverbs 27, to let another praise you and not your own

  353. mouth, a stranger, even not your own lips.

  354. This family is to help hold us accountable.

  355. Proverbs 27. Five through 6.

  356. Better is an open rebuke than hidden love.

  357. Faithful are the words of a friend over profuse are the

  358. kisses of an enemy. This family said, so we can bear

  359. each other's burdens. Galatians 62 this family so they

  360. can weep with us, rejoice with us, pray with us, worship with

  361. us, challenge US. Proverbs continue.

  362. Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

  363. This family to help give us wisdom, and we are called to

  364. participate in this family, serve this family and help this

  365. family grow. First Corinthians 12/12 tells us

  366. for just as the body is 1 it has many members, all the members of

  367. the body of though many are one body, so is it with Christ.

  368. For in one spirit we were all baptized into one body, Jews or

  369. Greek or slave or free, and all were made to drink of the one

  370. spirit. It goes on to 26 to say if one

  371. member suffers, all suffer together.

  372. If one member is honored, all rejoice together.

  373. I walked out that wedding again to to grieve in isolation,

  374. believing my pain was too much of A burden for anyone else but

  375. God. I was only outside for a couple

  376. seconds before my wife and the entire table of friends and

  377. fraternity brothers came running out to me.

  378. We all just hugged and cried together and at that moment it

  379. grew. The that moment my grief didn't

  380. feel as heavy. The day wasn't ruined and I felt

  381. so loved and cared for. It was later my wife told me

  382. that after I got up it was like they all came to the same

  383. realization as to why I random got up and left and they came

  384. running. I now know that I wasn't just an

  385. epiphany or a man made realization, but the Holy Spirit

  386. bringing bringing them to me so God could bring me comfort and

  387. love to His Son who desperately needed it.

  388. It is not good for man to be alone.

  389. We cannot help this family grow nor contribute to this family in

  390. isolation, be it communal. Communal work with me Isolation

  391. meaning no Christ centered community involvement or

  392. relationships or even spiritual. Isolation, meaning leaning on

  393. your own strength and your own understanding, rather than the

  394. Holy Spirit, our Helper. We as image bearers like Adam,

  395. have a task. We are called to go and make

  396. disciples. We are called to go and grow his

  397. Kingdom like Adam, and it's not good for us to be alone.

  398. Like Adam, we were given a helper, the Holy Spirit.

  399. Thanks to the new Adam, Jesus. We were given a family in Christ

  400. to also walk alongside us. Are we trying to do it by

  401. ourselves or are we utilizing the family that God has given

  402. us? And as a family, are we leaning

  403. on the Holy Spirit, our helper, or are we trusting in our own

  404. strength? If we are utilizing our family,

  405. then when we have a sense struggle, when we feel tempted,

  406. when we're facing the hardship, when we're facing tough

  407. situations, when we have a massive decision that has to be

  408. made or your faith is being challenged, we would reach out

  409. to a brother. We would reach out to a sister

  410. and we would pray, we would fast, and we would guide each

  411. other back to the scriptures. We would have our own rhythms of

  412. prayer. We would have our own fasting

  413. rhythms. We would study the scripture and

  414. have our own rhythms to discern the Holy Spirit in our lives so

  415. we can continue to sanctify us so we can be closer and better

  416. image bearers of God. Matthew 1819 and 20 says again,
