  1. okay haha

  2. I've got Kleenex

  3. because I've had menopause for 2 months

  4. haha

  5. I was gonna be prepared well

  6. it is it's a privilege to be here and um

  7. so thank you for those so kind words

  8. obviously

  9. this place wouldn't be here without you and your wife

  10. and I'll just like

  11. would you can we just honor the founders of this place

  12. it takes a lot of courage to um

  13. start something from nothing

  14. and obviously it takes a lot of faith

  15. and we know

  16. none of us would be here if it wasn't for Jesus Christ

  17. so we want to make sure that we

  18. we keep Jesus at the center

  19. as one of my one of my staff tell me all the times

  20. Jesus at the center I'm like hey

  21. is he is he off the bubble a little bit

  22. and we move him back

  23. but none of us would be here if it wasn't for Jesus

  24. but it does take pioneers and

  25. and the hails have been pioneers

  26. and we're we're

  27. we're here today because of their

  28. their obedience to god

  29. and their ability to make sacrifices

  30. and what a beautiful place

  31. and isn't this a beautiful place

  32. like the setting is just amazing

  33. this whole thing is just beautiful

  34. well once you grab a hand we're gonna pray

  35. again you can get a date this way

  36. Holy Spirit thank you for what you're doing today

  37. we pray god for your anointing to be on us

  38. you said that you it's the

  39. your anointing that teaches us

  40. and so we pray for that anointing to be on us

  41. and I also pray Holy Spirit

  42. that you would feel the freedom

  43. to do whatever you want to do

  44. please tell me first but

  45. but feel free to do what you want here Lord

  46. and heal people and deliver people

  47. and transform people and open our ears and our eyes

  48. father in Jesus name amen

  49. I I wrestled a little about uh

  50. what to share this morning

  51. um I don't know if I've ever shared this here before

  52. probably I have

  53. I've been here a lot of times

  54. but I uh

  55. and I've changed the message three or four times

  56. just because of the season we're in

  57. and it feels like it feels like I'm

  58. I'm gonna share something that's like

  59. opposite of this season I would be sharing in

  60. but um I

  61. I felt this morning last night I went to bed and like

  62. I think I'm supposed to share on

  63. developing a wealth mentality

  64. and I

  65. I sort of realized that that's running against the

  66. the current grain of what maybe what we should share

  67. but um

  68. and two or three times I've

  69. I've kind of I've been sharing this message on humility

  70. and I I said well

  71. maybe I should just do that

  72. and I felt so strongly

  73. that I'm supposed to talk about

  74. developing a wealth mentality

  75. so I'll tell you a little bit

  76. um you may know my story because um

  77. most of you are here because of uh

  78. because you've heard our story or my story but um

  79. Bill's story

  80. um so I

  81. I grew up my father drowned when I was three years old

  82. and so we when I was

  83. from the time I was uh

  84. three to I don't know

  85. maybe seven or eight we lived on welfare

  86. and

  87. I'm so thankful for our government system of welfare

  88. I just want to say that like I

  89. I don't think it was uh

  90. meant to be a lifestyle but it certainly is

  91. it's beautiful that um

  92. when you're in a crisis that there is

  93. that your government helps to take care of you

  94. and um

  95. in welfare in those days was a very um

  96. I I

  97. I remember it as being very humbling

  98. because we were on and off welfare

  99. so my mom was on welfare for a while

  100. and then we she went through a uh

  101. divorce when I was 13

  102. and then we were back on welfare for a while and

  103. and um

  104. the welfare lady would come to our house

  105. and she would look through our cupboards

  106. and if we had any like

  107. sweets or anything like that

  108. then they would withdraw the welfare and

  109. and then uh

  110. also I couldn't have friends stay overnight at my house

  111. and so my friends would often

  112. the welfare lady would show up unannounced

  113. so my friends would have to hide

  114. or go out the back door and so it was a

  115. it was it was pretty intense time in the season

  116. and I and I remember um

  117. and and so I

  118. I remember that um

  119. my my parents

  120. my my

  121. I had two stepfathers uh

  122. eventually I had a second stepfather when I was 15

  123. and my my parents and my uncles and aunts

  124. my whole family they

  125. they literally they

  126. they hated wealthy people

  127. now I don't know if they actually hated them

  128. but that's the impression I had as a young man

  129. I remember sit

  130. I remember my parents sitting at the dinner table and

  131. and I was sitting with my uncles and aunts

  132. when they would gather

  133. and they would just talk about how people like

  134. obviously there wasn't a Bill Gates in those days

  135. but the Bill Gates kind of people

  136. they were evil and

  137. and how they abused people and how they

  138. they they

  139. they hoarded wealth to themselves

  140. and my my

  141. my parents you know

  142. taught me that wealthy people had

  143. took the money that should have belonged to us and uh

  144. we voted for people uh

  145. my parents voted for people that um

  146. would that

  147. that increase government entitlements and um

  148. wrong or right I'm just telling you the way I grew up

  149. I grew up just and I remember um

  150. I didn't know I was poor until I went

  151. I went to school um

  152. I think it was around eighth grade

  153. and I remember seventh or eighth grade

  154. and I remember we were back on welfare

  155. and I remember standing in line

  156. uh

  157. with about five kids for lunch

  158. and we all had vouchers

  159. and that was the first time I

  160. I thought oh

  161. these guys have money and we

  162. we have vouchers

  163. and and so

  164. and and I

  165. and I and I hated

  166. I hated the feeling of being broke

  167. and I started working uh

  168. cutting lawns when I was uh

  169. 12 years old and I would

  170. and then I would give my the money to my

  171. my mom because we were

  172. we're on welfare

  173. and that's the way we got to do extra things and like

  174. have

  175. you know food we weren't allowed to have and

  176. and I started working full time when I was 15

  177. I went to school and I worked at a shoe store and

  178. and later on it had several service stations

  179. and I I just

  180. part of my work ethic came from

  181. I hated the idea of being in poverty

  182. um and then I got saved at 18

  183. and it was

  184. I had a beautiful experience with the Jesus people that

  185. anyone old enough in here

  186. you got saved in the Jesus people movement

  187. I I love the Jesus People movement and

  188. and uh

  189. they they taught me how to love Jesus and how to I I

  190. I was immediately given a

  191. a spiritual father that's a story for another day

  192. he was a beautiful man

  193. I actually did his funeral some 17 years ago and um

  194. he he um

  195. he taught me how to be a disciple and um

  196. but the the

  197. the challenge with a lot of the Jesus movement

  198. at least the part I was in

  199. obviously it's a big movement

  200. but the part I was in is that they

  201. they also had a poverty mentality

  202. and they they um

  203. frankly the people I were with love Jesus

  204. but they didn't really know the Bible very well

  205. and uh

  206. and I was so excited like

  207. I had such a powerful experience when I was 18

  208. receiving Christ it changed my entire life

  209. like I've never turned around since that day and uh

  210. and my my girlfriend

  211. and I my

  212. my girlfriend was uh Kathy

  213. still is my girlfriend

  214. 51 years of marriage this year

  215. I met Kathy when she was 12

  216. we got engaged when she was 13

  217. cover your children's ears

  218. I'm glad they're all out of here now

  219. we got married when she was 17 and um

  220. I we

  221. we found the Lord together

  222. I was 18 and she was 15

  223. and we received Christ together that day

  224. and we've never turned back

  225. and we're radical Christians

  226. from the day we received Christ

  227. when our kids were little we uh

  228. you know young

  229. and people would wrap presents in Santa Claus

  230. gift wrapping

  231. we would unwrap them and put Jesus paper on them

  232. and if someone send our kids Christmas cards with Santa

  233. Claus on them we throw the Christmas cards away

  234. and we call her parents and say

  235. don't send anything with Santa Claus

  236. and we are upset

  237. let me just say it was a rough few years

  238. I have a little bit more wisdom now

  239. the Easter Bunny we shot that sucker right away

  240. didn't celebrate Halloween

  241. now we are now we are

  242. we are we're still radicals

  243. but we are radicals raising our children

  244. you know

  245. I I hear of some famous singers like

  246. I was raised in a in a religious home

  247. my parents forced Jesus on us

  248. and I'm like that was us

  249. we weren't we weren't religious

  250. but we loved Jesus and

  251. and

  252. our kids watched deliverances happen in our front room

  253. and they knew there was a devil

  254. and they prayed there was a god

  255. oh yeah

  256. I could tell you a lot of stories

  257. and um

  258. and all all my kids love god

  259. all my kids are pastors

  260. and um

  261. I'm very proud of them but uh

  262. we we grew up um

  263. in in the Jesus movement

  264. and the primary

  265. one of the primary scriptures that I Learned

  266. it was kind of like the like

  267. the motto over the door metaphorically speaking

  268. is it's harder for a rich man to get into the kingdom

  269. than it is for a camel

  270. to go through the eye of a needle

  271. and uh

  272. I didn't realize it but I I

  273. I Learned right away that I was a child of the king

  274. and I remember reading this book

  275. The King's Kid and I'm like

  276. I remember like

  277. you know growing up with such low self esteem

  278. and two fathers who didn't like me

  279. and then I I

  280. I meet the Jesus people and they just love Jesus

  281. and they they had this deep sense that we were

  282. we were you were

  283. we were kids of the king and and

  284. and I Learned uh

  285. from the Jesus people that we were a royal priesthood

  286. and it was and and

  287. and there but there was this really weird contrast

  288. that I never understood for more than 10 years

  289. that we are royal people but

  290. but we embraced poverty

  291. as if it was a sign of loving god

  292. and it was really a shame to have things

  293. and people who were in our movement

  294. that had really nice things

  295. they always had to apologize for those things

  296. when they came into our presence

  297. and so I was really was really a

  298. a kind of a a strange um

  299. thing and I didn't understand that

  300. that that mentality was uh

  301. actually it

  302. it actually hurt my relationship with god

  303. and uh

  304. and so I'm I'm gonna share now

  305. I wanna I

  306. in the Bible in the old and New Testament

  307. there's a one word for riches and wealth

  308. there's not a word riches and a word wealth

  309. are you with me but I'd like to say that I I

  310. I but I but

  311. but the context sometimes dictates the definition

  312. and I'd like to point out

  313. that there really is a concept of wealth

  314. and there really is a concept of riches

  315. and I'd like to point out that you can be rich

  316. and not wealthy

  317. and that you can be wealthy and have no money

  318. so I'm not primarily talking about money

  319. although there are more parables in the

  320. in the New Testament about money

  321. there's more conversations about money

  322. in the New Testament than about heaven or hell

  323. so Jesus talked a lot about money

  324. and so and I

  325. I also think I should say this um

  326. I I understand that when we start talk like

  327. talking about poverty riches and wealth

  328. that that subject has been really abused in the church

  329. and we have what we call the prosperity gospel

  330. and I know I'm on the

  331. the list of those prosperity teachers

  332. let's not even go there

  333. and and and

  334. and I'm like and uh

  335. and this is what I think

  336. that they mean by the prosperity gospel

  337. in the negative sense

  338. is that you're measuring your spirituality

  339. by what you have and

  340. and just to be clear like

  341. that's not what I'm saying at all

  342. and I I want you to understand that I've known many

  343. many people who were very

  344. had lots of money and were

  345. as far as I'm concerned were very poor

  346. I don't mean poor in spirit

  347. I mean poor poor

  348. and I've known lots of people who have

  349. don't have hardly any anything

  350. any material wealth

  351. and yet they are incredibly wealthy people

  352. so um

  353. but I'm gonna do what Jesus did

  354. and I'm gonna illustrate a lot of things with money

  355. and I although I'm not primarily talking about money in

  356. um so in Deuteronomy 8:18

    Deuteronomy 8:18

  357. the Lord tells Moses this

  358. you shall you shall

  359. he says

  360. tell the people they shall remember the Lord their god

  361. for is he who's giving you power to make wealth

  362. say this power to make wealth

  363. listen to the rest of this

  364. and then you're gonna repeat it in a minute

  365. that he may confirm his covenant

  366. which he swore to your fathers

  367. as it is to this day say this that he may

  368. that he may confirm his covenant

  369. confirm his which he swore to your fathers

  370. so so god says to Moses listen

  371. tell the people

  372. that I'm gonna give them the power to make wealth

  373. and here's the reason

  374. I'm gonna give them the power to make wealth

  375. so that it will be a confirmation

  376. to the covenant I have with them

  377. I call it jealousy evangelism

  378. and listen you know the story

  379. you may not like the story

  380. but here's the story god says to the Jewish people

  381. I'm gonna give you the power

  382. make wealth and all the and

  383. and it's gonna confirm that I

  384. that you have a relationship with me

  385. and the nations around you are going to look at you

  386. and they're gonna go how do we get that

  387. and god said I'm gonna so bless you

  388. that the nations around you will be jealous

  389. and they will say our gods don't do that for us

  390. maybe we should serve your god

  391. and so god was saying I'm gonna give you wealth

  392. but it's not for your sake

  393. it's for the that the people will know

  394. that you have a covenant with me

  395. and they'll want me

  396. because of the kindness I show towards you

  397. now here's the interesting thing

  398. the word wealth I'm gonna give you power to make wealth

  399. not the word power but the word wealth is

  400. is actually translated uh

  401. in the New American Standard

  402. it's translated 82 times army

  403. I don't know if you know what I just said

  404. the Hebrew word for wealth is only translated wealth

  405. 25 times

  406. it's translated 82 times army

  407. it's translated elite army

  408. 1 times forces

  409. 12 times capability

  410. one time

  411. uh strength

  412. 10 times

  413. valiant 41 times

  414. wow

  415. okay I'd like to propose to you

  416. that poverty and wealth are both a power

  417. that poverty no

  418. remember I'm not talk like if you cannot react to

  419. he's preaching the prosperity gospel

  420. cause I'm gonna show you that that's not what I'm doing

  421. but I'm also trying to say that wealth is a power

  422. and so is poverty

  423. somebody once said

  424. if you took all the money in the world

  425. and you and you and you

  426. and you gave everybody equal amounts of money

  427. divided it equally among all population of the world

  428. that in 10 years the poor

  429. the poor would be poor again

  430. the middle class would be middle class again

  431. and the wealthy would be wealthy again

  432. now it's hard to prove that

  433. except for this we do know

  434. we do know that there's been many documentaries done

  435. on people who have won a lottery

  436. of $1 million or more and they go back five years later

  437. and nearly in every case and I don't know what the

  438. the the reports I read were 15 years old

  439. so there may be some differences now

  440. but in nearly every case those people were more broke

  441. after they won the lottery than before

  442. I point out that the environment you have within you

  443. becomes the environment around you

  444. if you take a hopper and you put him in a palace

  445. he'll make the palace a prison

  446. but if you take a prince and you put him in a prison

  447. story of Joseph he'll make the prison of palace

  448. I'm pointing out that the

  449. the environment you cultivate within you becomes the

  450. the environment around you

  451. okay good point Chris

  452. so um

  453. can I can I say this

  454. if wealth was inherently evil

  455. remember this is the

  456. this is the this is the

  457. this is the mindset I grew up with

  458. with the Jesus people

  459. that wealth is something you avoid

  460. like you should avoid this because then you get money

  461. then you can't get into the kingdom

  462. well you might scoot your way in

  463. but you're definitely like

  464. barely welcome

  465. so I'd like to point out that if wealth was in

  466. inherently evil

  467. could it confirm a covenant god had with his people

  468. are you with me like if

  469. if I'm talking about if wealth was inherently evil

  470. right right

  471. like

  472. I'm trying to point out for people that grew up like me

  473. like if

  474. if I was taught like

  475. you gotta be really like wealth listen

  476. the love of money is the root of everything

  477. if you get that you're gonna barely get in

  478. if you get in

  479. if wealth was inherently evil

  480. would god say I'm going to give my people wealth

  481. so to confirm I have a covenant with you wow

  482. okay here we go

  483. I want to give you five definitions of wealth

  484. these are Chris Vallentine's definitions of wealth

  485. but I I think they're they're true

  486. a number one

  487. wealth is the ability resources

  488. strength and wisdom

  489. to create positive outcomes in the midst of lack

  490. poverty and or emptiness

  491. want me to read it one more time

  492. yes wealth is the ability

  493. the resources the strength

  494. wisdom and etcetera

  495. to create positive outcomes in the midst of lack

  496. poverty or emptiness

  497. I I

  498. I'd point out it it's

  499. it's kind of like the expanded version of Joseph's

  500. in prison there's lack

  501. there's there's

  502. there's there's

  503. there's emptiness but he creates prosperity

  504. because he has it in him are you with me

  505. number two wealth is light in darkness

  506. it's healing in sickness it's prosperity in poverty

  507. it's wholeness in brokenness

  508. it's favor in obscurity it's love for the unlovely

  509. beauty for ashes and victors among victims

  510. you want me to give you that one more time

  511. wealth is light and darkness

  512. in other words it can be dark

  513. arise and shine for your light has come

  514. the glory of the Lord has risen upon you

  515. behold deep darkness covers the earth

  516. but but the Lord will rise upon you

  517. his glory be

  518. I'd point out that if we're the light of the world

  519. that we actually gain influence when it's dark

  520. okay good point

  521. Chris and I'm pointing out that that is part of wealth

  522. when it's dark I show up

  523. can I say more accurately

  524. he shows up in me

  525. so wealth is light in darkness

  526. healing in sickness prosperity in poverty

  527. wholeness in brokenness favor in obscurity

  528. love for the unlovely

  529. beauty for ashes victors among victims

  530. when you love someone who's unlovely

  531. when you love someone who's not lovable

  532. that is wealth

  533. you just gave someone something

  534. that they didn't give back to you

  535. how many know Jesus said

  536. if you love people who love you

  537. what are you doing different than the Gentiles

  538. because you give me love I give it back

  539. it's reciprocity

  540. but when you give me nothing and I give you love

  541. or you give me hate and I give you love

  542. I just prove that I have wealth

  543. because I don't need you to love me

  544. so I can love you because I have a source

  545. number three wealth is a can do attitude

  546. I like this because now we're talking about how I think

  547. wealth is a can do attitude

  548. a more than enough mindset

  549. and a nothing and is impossible belief system yeah

  550. I love this I think Bill Coin this phrase

  551. he said you know

  552. your mind's renewed

  553. when the impossible seems reasonable

  554. can I say that's a wealth mentality

  555. I step into a place where there's sickness

  556. or I step into a place where there's chaos

  557. and I

  558. and I have the confidence my god can take care of this

  559. not only can he he will

  560. No.5 wealth is radical generosity

  561. extraordinary compassion sacrificial giving

  562. and profound humility

  563. I'd like to point out that when you have a lot of money

  564. it's a lot easier to give your money

  565. than it is to give yourself

  566. so when I'm talking about radical generosity

  567. I'm not just talking about giving away money

  568. in the state in the place I'm in right now

  569. it's easier for me to give away money

  570. than it is to give away time

  571. it's easy to go let's give $1,000 that person

  572. when actually they need a visit

  573. so when I'm talking about sacrificial giving

  574. I'm not just talking about giving your stuff

  575. I'm talking about giving your heart

  576. yeah

  577. number five wealth is always thankful haha

  578. never jealous

  579. doesn't brag

  580. celebrates others and looks for

  581. looks to the future let me read it again

  582. wealth is always thankful

  583. can I point out when you stop being thankful

  584. when I stop being thankful

  585. I've lost wealth

  586. it doesn't matter how much money I have

  587. if I'm not thankful I am poor

  588. and I'm not talking about good poor

  589. that Jesus said blessed are the poor

  590. I'm talking about bad poor

  591. wealth is always thankful

  592. never jealous does not brag

  593. and celebrates others and looks to the future

  594. I I look to the future

  595. Proverbs 31 ladies

  596. you you know this

  597. this verse the Proverbs

  598. look the Proverbs 31

  599. woman looks to the future and smiles

  600. she's excited about the future

  601. how many you know that the scary

  602. some of the scariest things in life are the unknown

  603. I go get a a test for some health problem

  604. and it's five days before I get the results back

  605. and it and

  606. and I've imagined the worst

  607. but what happens when you have a prosperity mindset

  608. your what ifs are positive

  609. you're like that test is gonna come back negative

  610. that doctor's gonna say

  611. you're in better health than a 17 year old

  612. you you just begin to think that god

  613. all things work together for good

  614. for me that's a wealth mentality

  615. um I

  616. I want to talk just for a minute

  617. I don't know if we've all thought through this

  618. but what is money

  619. let's say that I'm a carpenter and you're a mechanic

  620. and I need my car fixed

  621. but you don't need carpentry work done

  622. but you need your wiring fixed in your house

  623. so I pay you with money

  624. which is agreed upon note of worth for your work

  625. and you use that note

  626. to pay the electrician for the wiring that you need

  627. so the value of the money is not in the paper

  628. it's printed on

  629. it's on the agreed upon value of the note

  630. are you with me some are like

  631. I hate money it's like that's stupid

  632. because money is the way we exchange our labor

  633. right it's primarily the way we exchange our labor

  634. so you need something but that but

  635. but what you do I don't need

  636. so you give me a note for what I did for you

  637. so that I can take that note

  638. and exchange it for something I need

  639. like that's what we're talking about right now

  640. I understand that

  641. it gets warped and weird when we have the love of money

  642. and we're like how much of this I can get for myself

  643. um so Jesus uh

  644. has an encounter

  645. the most famous encounter in the Jesus movement

  646. and there's a ruler he said

  647. good teacher how shall I inherit internal life

  648. eternal life this is Luke

    Luke 18 chapter mention

  649. Chapter 18 verse eighteen

  650. and Jesus said to him why do you call me good

  651. no one's good except for the god alone

  652. you know the commands don't commit adultery

  653. don't murder don't steal

  654. don't bear false witness honor your mother and father

  655. and he said I've kept these for my youth

  656. and when Jesus heard this

  657. he said you have one thing you lack

  658. sell all your possessions

  659. distribute to the poor

  660. and you shall have treasure in heaven

  661. and then come and follow me

  662. but when he heard this he became very sad

  663. and he was extremely because he was extremely rich

  664. and Jesus looked at him and said

  665. how hard it is for the wealthy

  666. to enter the kingdom of god

  667. um

  668. I'd like to point out if you

  669. if you'd rather be rich than right with god

  670. saved and have eternal life

  671. then you're a spiritual prostitute

  672. you've chosen the temporal pleasure

  673. over the infinite paradise

  674. so I just want to point out that

  675. whenever we'd rather have money than god

  676. that's an idol

  677. I love it Jack Taylor said

  678. he said an idol is something you have to check with

  679. before you say yes to god

  680. the problem isn't what you own

  681. the problem is what owns you

  682. it's called lordship

  683. some people own houses and some houses own people

  684. yeah yeah

  685. haha

  686. now let's just get

  687. dive right into the Jesus people verse in 1st Timothy

  688. 6:10 the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil

  689. and some by longing for it

  690. have wandered away from the faith

  691. and pierced themselves with many griefs

  692. now I'd like to point out

  693. that it's not money that's the root of all evil

  694. it's the love of money and I'd like to point out

  695. that it's not the root of all evil

  696. it's the root of all sorts of evil

  697. I'd like to point out there are lots of other evils

  698. idolatry arrogance

  699. we heard pride this week

  700. the devil didn't fall because of money

  701. he fell because of pride

  702. infidelity immorality

  703. I could go on and on and on

  704. the money is not even

  705. probably in the top 10 things that are evil

  706. but the point is is that the love of money

  707. is the root of all sorts of evil

  708. now Paul's writing to Timothy

  709. who's at Ephesus which uh

  710. when you think of Ephesus

  711. think of San Francisco a wealthy city

  712. Greek city and so he's writing to Timothy

  713. cause Timothy is an apostle in Ephesus

  714. and they happen to have a lot of wealthy people

  715. it's a wealthy city so what

  716. so this so first uh

  717. Timothy 6:10 which we just read

  718. what is Paul's advice to Timothy's people

  719. who are wealthy let me go on

  720. verse 17

  721. instruct those who are rich in this present world

  722. to sell everything they have and give it to the poor

  723. oh no

  724. instruct those who are rich in this present world

  725. not to be conceited

  726. or fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches

  727. but on god

  728. who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy

  729. so he said tell your wealthy people

  730. to not put their hope in wealth

  731. to fix their hope in Jesus

  732. and to remind them that god gave them wealth to enjoy

  733. and he goes on instruct them to do good

  734. to be rich in good works

  735. to be generous and ready to share

  736. storing up for themselves treasures of good

  737. of a good foundation for the future

  738. that they may take hold of what is life indeed

  739. so Paul says to Timothy

  740. you have a bunch of wealthy people

  741. remember that the

  742. that the root of all sorts of evil is the love of money

  743. he didn't tell them get rid of their money

  744. he said get rid of their attitude

  745. where they trust in their money

  746. and then he said be generous

  747. in 2nd Corinthians chapter 8

  748. verse 9 Paul writes this

  749. for know this for the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ

  750. that though he was rich yet he became poor

  751. so that through your poverty

  752. I'm sorry through

  753. I'm sorry sorry

  754. through his poverty you might become rich

  755. for

  756. know that through the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ

  757. that though he was rich yet he became poor

  758. so that through his poverty you might become rich

  759. listen if you don't like wealth

  760. you're not gonna like heaven

  761. because heaven is gold streets and pearl gates

  762. you get the idea and I'm pointing out

  763. can I say this again like

  764. if wealth was inherently evil

  765. would god entice you with heaven by describing it as

  766. pearl gates and gold streets

  767. can can

  768. can you imagine like

  769. if wealth was inherently evil

  770. can you imagine Jesus saying well

  771. heaven's gonna be like

  772. marijuana gardens and opium fields

  773. I'll tell you in California

  774. you get a lot more people saved that way

  775. I'll tell you that right now

  776. do you see where I'm going

  777. I'm pointing out that if wealth was inherently evil

  778. if it was evil why would god say

  779. your reward in heaven is gold streets and pearl gates

  780. and I realized some people like

  781. that's a metaphor I'm like okay

  782. it's a metaphor maybe it's not

  783. maybe it's not really gold streets

  784. maybe Jesus is using a metaphor

  785. for things we don't even understand

  786. but would he use a metaphor of the of

  787. of beauty of gold

  788. of excellence of Pearl Gates

  789. would he use that metaphor if it was inherently evil

  790. when he's saying this is gonna be your reward yeah

  791. I'm pointing out if you don't like wealth

  792. you might want to try the other place

  793. that was a joke of course

  794. okay I'd like to ask one more question

  795. was Jesus poor

  796. cause haha

  797. let me answer that question for you

  798. because what was quoted

  799. when I was growing up in the Jesus movement was

  800. Jesus had no place to lay his head

  801. like he was bait homeless vagabond

  802. Poor Jesus he didn't have no place

  803. Jesus doesn't he's homeless

  804. he's couch surfing poor guy

  805. and I'd like to point out that at Jesus's birth

  806. or somewhere around 2 3 years old

  807. that wise men came we say

  808. you know these three kings

  809. but we don't know how many there actually were

  810. but we know this

  811. that they were kings and they opened their treasures

  812. they didn't go like okay I'll give him a 20

  813. I challenge you to match it

  814. I'd point out

  815. so sorry man

  816. these are all the visions I had for 10 years

  817. I was in a Jesus movie poor Jesus is so poor

  818. kings came and brought him wealth

  819. many theologians believe

  820. that the early part of his ministry

  821. was funded by what the kings brought him

  822. in fact prop

  823. maybe through God's you know

  824. divine wisdom he thought

  825. I'm gonna fund this guy's ministry

  826. I'm gonna fund my son's ministry

  827. and I'm getting kings to come and honor him

  828. and give them wealth

  829. could it be Isaiah 60:11

    Isaiah 60:11

  830. your gates will be open continually

  831. they'll not be closed day or night

  832. that the wealth of nations will come to you

  833. kings leading the procession

  834. could it be that

  835. that was part of the fulfillment of Isaiah 60

  836. the gods like

  837. kings are gonna come they're gonna give you wealth wow

  838. was Jesus poor let me ask you a question

  839. if Jesus could make wine out of water

  840. in like

  841. 30 seconds

  842. you know the story yeah

  843. like he's at a wedding

  844. and they run out of wine

  845. now have you ever thought through this

  846. they run out of wine and the Bible says

  847. this is Jesus's first public miracle

  848. okay how did Mary know that Jesus could make wine

  849. no I

  850. I mean we're laughing right now

  851. but like

  852. how would she have any idea

  853. like why would like

  854. like I've been to weddings

  855. they've run out of things

  856. they never go we're out of cake

  857. so be it on to you

  858. here's some devil food cake

  859. no angel food

  860. you know I

  861. I don't know I'm just like

  862. like you don't go places when they run out of food

  863. and someone then your mama looks at you and goes

  864. do something about this

  865. I'd like to propose that the only way Mary

  866. on a serious note could know that Jesus could make wine

  867. is that he had been doing it at home

  868. how else would she have any idea he could do one

  869. this is his first public miracle

  870. yeah

  871. so you can imagine you know

  872. there's a little bit of milk in the carton

  873. and when Jesus growing up

  874. he's like James leave that for Jesus

  875. are you with me

  876. I'm pointing out

  877. that Jesus had to live in a prosperous home

  878. he had to be doing those things at home

  879. or Mary would have no consciousness

  880. that he could do anything

  881. about them running out of wine

  882. you know and I'm thinking

  883. Jesus is like I always do

  884. I see my father doing she's like

  885. your mother told you do the wine

  886. cause he says what's that have to do with me

  887. like I haven't seen my father making wine

  888. but you heard your mother

  889. and then he makes wine right

  890. and it and the

  891. and the waiter brings the wine

  892. and it's and he tastes it and he goes wow

  893. most people serve the bad wine first

  894. like the Gallo I mean

  895. the good wine first

  896. and then they serve the Gallo when people are so drunk

  897. they could give a rip what they're drinking

  898. right that's

  899. that's the message

  900. Bible sort of

  901. but you save the best wine for last

  902. and I point out not that only Jesus make wine

  903. he made excellent wine

  904. if you could make wine without planting a seed

  905. growing a vine

  906. trimming the vines picking the grapes

  907. I don't know what they do after that

  908. I think it takes a while

  909. if you could do that in 30 seconds

  910. without all that process you ain't poor

  911. well listen

  912. you might be poor

  913. but you're drinking some good wine with the disciples

  914. if you could take a boy's lunch

  915. and feed at least 5,000 men

  916. teenagers

  917. women and children so what do you got

  918. 10,000 people easily

  919. if you could take a boy's lunch and multiply it

  920. so that people eat so much

  921. and there's so much leftover

  922. that the boy goes home with more than Jesus stole

  923. from him

  924. and tells him I don't know what it is about water

  925. but it must be a prophetic thing

  926. cause I've spilled it three times in three days

  927. you ever see me walk on water

  928. you've seen it right here first time

  929. if you could take a boy's lunch

  930. I can I just imagine the boy going

  931. Jesus going home to his mom and going Jesus

  932. I don't know why this thing wants to talk to me

  933. while I'm preaching

  934. when I was preaching yesterday

  935. it said I'm sorry

  936. I didn't get that like

  937. I know that's why you were an iPhone

  938. can you imagine the little boy goes home and go

  939. Jesus stole my lunch

  940. and as soon as his mom starts to get angry goes

  941. but here's the baskets he left me with

  942. I mean whatever you give Jesus

  943. you're like oh okay

  944. I'm gonna what

  945. we heard a testimony today

  946. like I'm gonna give him this money

  947. it's like you know

  948. it's like you gotta get out of that mode

  949. because you all the fragments are more than you gave

  950. wow

  951. if you where was I

  952. if you can pay your taxes

  953. by fishing

  954. you're like hey Peter

  955. we're owed some taxes go fishing

  956. how much money how many fish are we gonna have to catch

  957. to pay our taxes one

  958. he's gonna have money in his mouth

  959. I mean is that not Genesis 1

  960. you have dominion over the earth

  961. over the fish of the of the sea

  962. over the birds of the sky

  963. I've been trying to work on the birds thing

  964. you know cause they poop on my car

  965. I'm like this is a no poop zone right here

  966. hahaha I'm just practicing having

  967. you know power over fish and I mean birds

  968. you know Jesus

  969. you know

  970. we know that John the Baptist wore camel's hair

  971. and ate grasshoppers

  972. ain't nobody trying to divide John the Baptist garment

  973. when they killed him

  974. but Jesus wore a garment so expensive

  975. that the soldiers gambled

  976. instead of cutting it up in pieces

  977. I'm pointing out that compared to where Jesus came from

  978. heaven he was poor compared to you and me no

  979. when your father provides everything you need

  980. it don't matter how much money you have you ain't poor

  981. now the

  982. one of my favorite stories is in John chapter 21 I

    John 21 chapter mention

  983. I know you know the story I'll

  984. I'll so I'll just repeat the story without reading it

  985. but it's the Jesus has rose from the dead

  986. and his disciples are just

  987. you know they're

  988. they're like

  989. he's dead they haven't realized he's alive yet

  990. and they're kind of depressed

  991. and I thought and Jesus is like

  992. I mean Peter's like

  993. I don't know I'm going fishing

  994. I'm just gonna go back to what I know

  995. cause I thought this guy was gonna be like the Christ

  996. and then didn't happen

  997. and it's been three and a half year

  998. I know what I'm doing I'm gonna go make some money

  999. and so Peter and John in a boat

1000. Jesus is on the shore

  1001. and uh

1002. he does what fishermen do with each other right

  1003. cause my wife's a fisherman

1004. she has a bass boat haha

  1005. I know my wife has Parkinson's

1006. she shot a bear and a deer this year

1007. two years ago she shot a bear with a bow

  1008. she has a bass boat I don't fish

1009. she does I don't hunt she does

1010. someone breaks into our house

  1011. I wake her up I'm like

1012. check that out I wrote a book on powerful women

1013. and goes show me your real

  1014. I'll call 9 1 1 while you get down there and

  1015. so you know

  1016. I've been fishing a few times

1017. you know and I know when you come in the shore

1018. the fisherman who are going out are like

  1019. have you caught anything

1020. have you caught anything yeah

1021. we caught these bass what were you using

1022. that's kind of the fisherman thing right

1023. so Jesus on the shore and they're fishing

1024. and they fished all night

1025. as you know and he yells out hey

  1026. have you caught anything

  1027. they're like no

1028. we've been fishing all night

  1029. didn't catch a thing

  1030. and then he goes

1031. cast your net on the other side of the boat

  1032. now listen

  1033. I'm not a fisherman

1034. but I'm thinking if I fished all night

  1035. I'd tried both sides

1036. do you know what I'm saying

1037. I'm like I probably threw the net on both sides

  1038. I'm sure I don't know if

  1039. I don't know how they're feeling

1040. cause they don't know yet it's Jesus

1041. and they're like cast a net on the other side

  1042. you know I

  1043. I don't know I don't know how they did it

1044. but they cast a net on the other side of the boat

1045. and they catch so many fish

1046. 153 exactly and the mirror

1047. they have two miracles they've caught the fish

1048. and it says their nets didn't break

1049. as a sign of supernatural power

1050. that god actually held the nets together

1051. cause you remember the first time this happened

  1052. their nets broke

1053. and they had to call their friends to help them

1054. this time not only do they catch so much fish

1055. but the net they built did not break

  1056. and remember they're fishermen

1057. so this ain't fish this is money

1058. and John turns to Peter and goes it must be the Lord

1059. and Peter gets so excited

  1060. I love Peter I

  1061. I am definitely Peter

1062. just look on the internet anyway

  1063. I'm externally processing

1064. trying to be funny I say things like

  1065. get behind me say

  1066. you know I'm like

1067. the lord's like the the

1068. the Father's the father revealed that to you

1069. who am I you are the Christ

1070. the son of living god

1071. flesh and blood did not reveal this to you

1072. but my father who's in heaven

  1073. three verses later

1074. I'm gonna die on a cross no

1075. that's not gonna happen get behind me Satan

  1076. that's my life

1077. got a really good idea

1078. then I just goes bad a few minutes later

1079. OK I'm trying to be funny

1080. some of you are being so serious

  1081. John says

  1082. I think that's the Lord

1083. and Peter puts his coat on and jumps in the water

  1084. I don't know a lot about swimming

  1085. but I think

1086. you usually take your clothes off when you swim

1087. Peter puts his coat on swims to shore

1088. and Jesus is obviously there

1089. ready and cooking fish already

  1090. here here

1091. here's my point and I'm getting close to being done

  1092. I think

1093. can you imagine if they caught like three menows

1094. like cast your net on the other side and they catch Lee

  1095. three little minnows

1096. and John goes that must be the Lord

  1097. so frugal

1098. that that's the people I grew up with

1099. and I'm pointing out when John saw the abundance yes

  1100. of fish

  1101. okay listen

  1102. we're not we're not

1103. we're using money but you understand

1104. when you ask for something and the Lord gives you

  1105. pressed down shaken together

1106. more than you need whether it's wisdom

1107. whether it's friends whether it's whatever favor

1108. and you're you you like

1109. it must be the Lord

1110. and I'm pointing out that abundance told John

  1111. that's god right

  1112. wow

  1113. okay I

  1114. I have five minutes

1115. I can do this last thing cause I have to end with this

1116. so I'd like you to just turn to Matthew 25

1117. and I'll tell you most of the story

1118. uh so for the sake of time

1119. but it's the story of the talents

1120. you remember the story of the talents

1121. so a master came and he gave

  1122. he gave each uh

1123. people three he gave 10 of them

1124. but we only know about three of them

1125. he gave them each talents

1126. he gave one five by the way

  1127. a talent is about $30,000

1128. so it's a significant amount of money

1129. so he gives one guy $150,000

1130. he gives another guy two talents $60,000

1131. and he gives another guy $30,000 right

1132. and it says he gave them the talents

  1133. according to their ability

1134. are you with me so then he comes back and he says uh

  1135. later comes back later

  1136. a season later and he's like

  1137. okay you're you

1138. you're steward of my money

1139. tell me what you did with it

1140. and the one guy comes and he says

1141. you gave me five give me five thou

1142. you gave me you gave me 150 thousand dollars

1143. and I have made you 150,000 more

  1144. and the the

1145. the master says that that's so good

1146. well done good and faithful servant

1147. I'll put you over many things

1148. next I comes you gave me two

1149. I think it was two or three

1150. and he goes and I have made you two more

1151. I gave you 60 grand I made another 60 grand for you

1152. well done good and faithful servant

1153. I will put you over many things

1154. then he gets to the guy that has one

1155. which I'd like to read

1156. Jesus people never read this verse

1157. and the one who had received one talent

1158. came up and said master

1159. I knew you were a hard man

1160. reaping where you did not sow

1161. and gathering where you scattered no seed

1162. and I was afraid and I went away and hid your talent

1163. your $30,000 in the ground

1164. see you have what is yours

1165. but his master answered him said

  1166. you wicked lazy slave

  1167. you knew I reap where I didn't sow

1168. I gathered where I scattered no seed

1169. then you ought to have put the money in the bank

1170. and on my arrival you would have received money back

1171. I would have received money back with interest

1172. therefore take away the talent from him

1173. and give it to the one who has 10 talents

1174. for to everyone who has more shall be given

1175. and even when he even if he has an abundance

  1176. I I'm sorry

1177. but he who and he will have an abundance

1178. but the one who does not have

1179. even what he does not have shall be taken away

1180. and listen how it ends

1181. throw out the worthless slave into outer darkness

1182. the place where there's weeping and gnashing of teeth

1183. I know the Jesus people never read that

1184. the guy who wasn't good with money went to hell

1185. never told me that story

  1186. I I know it's a parable

1187. I get the idea people are like

  1188. it's a parable I get the idea

  1189. thank god it's a parable cause I don't wanna think

1190. that guy went to hell

1191. for not taking care of his 30 grand

1192. I heard the rich man can't get into the kingdom

  1193. but

1194. I never heard a guy who didn't take care of his stuff

1195. that god gave him actually was called lazy

  1196. was actually called wicked

1197. and actually ended up in hell

  1198. that's a powerful statement

  1199. and it says

1200. god cares about what you do with what he has

  1201. in fact in Luke

1202. Luke records this Luke says

1203. Luke says records Jesus saying

1204. who who will entrust you with true riches

1205. if you don't take care of unrighteous mammon

1206. God's like if you don't take care of money

1207. how am I gonna trust you with true riches

  1208. I I love this

1209. the passage in of the talents

1210. because it I said to the Lord one day Lord

1211. it seems like the rich get richer

1212. because we took the one away from the guy

1213. who had one talent and gave it to the guy who had 10

  1214. in fact in one

1215. one of the parables the guys arguing go

1216. he already has 10 and the Lord says

1217. whoever has more shall be given

  1218. and I said Lord

1219. it seems like it's unfair that the rich get richer

1220. he said the rich don't get richer

1221. I said they did there

1222. he said the faithful get wealthy

1223. well done good and faithful servant wow

1224. some things that don't look fair are god

  1225. not everything

  1226. just some things

1227. I wanna pray for for us

  1228. because I I actually believe that

1229. the Lord wants us to have a mentality of royalty

1230. and that doesn't mean I have a lot of money

1231. it means that I know that my daddy can do anything

1232. that means that when I show up

1233. my daddy shows up with me

1234. I'm not talking about arrogance

1235. I'm talking about the humility

1236. of knowing what family I was born into

1237. that when I walk into the room

1238. Jesus walks in the room with me

1239. if it's darkness light has come

1240. if it's sickness healing has come

1241. not because of me but because who's on board

1242. are you with me so why don't you stand

1243. I'm gonna pray for you right now

  1244. you know this uh

1245. honestly seems like an out of

1246. um out of season word for where we're at right now

1247. I really was not my plan to preach this

  1248. but I I feel like

1249. the Lord wants to break a poverty mentality off of us

  1250. I feel like

1251. the Lord wants to break a poverty mentality off of us

  1252. I remember that I I

1253. I got a watch when I was really broke

  1254. and um

  1255. and I it was $150

1256. is the year I came to Bethel

1257. and the year my business crashed

  1258. and I and I had it

1259. I bought it on a Friday and on a Sunday

1260. I was in church and I had my arm over the chair

1261. and the guy behind me said

  1262. oh that's a nice watch

1263. let me see it and I showed it to him

1264. he said take it off

  1265. I'm oh no

1266. I've only had it today I took it off

1267. he kept it through the whole service

  1268. I couldn't even think about worship

1269. cause I was a poor man with a watch

  1270. anyway

1271. instead of giving my watch back out of the service

1272. he gave me his watch back

1273. I don't want his watch I want my watch

1274. but it was too small for me

1275. so I had to take it to the jeweler

  1276. and he put uh

1277. he gave me links for it and the jeweler goes wow

1278. where did you get this watch

  1279. I said oh

1280. a guy gave it to me he goes

1281. a guy gave you he pulls another one out of the counter

1282. out from under the counter it was like 16 dollars

1283. then about two years later

1284. I'm in his place and this guy says hey

1285. I like your watch I said yeah

1286. he goes you should give that to me

1287. I said no god gave it to me

1288. for five days he goes

1289. god told me you're gonna give me that watch

1290. I said god told me that I'm to keep it

1291. and the night before I left

1292. well actually the morning before I left

1293. we were actually in Fiji

1294. the Lord said I want you to give Dale your watch

  1295. I said I'm not doing that

1296. you gave me this watch he said

1297. if you give it to him I'll give you another one

  1298. I'll give you a better one

1299. you will I said okay

1300. that morning I gave it to Dale

1301. he goes I can't take your watch

  1302. I said

1303. you've been trying to get the watch for five days

1304. you're taking this he goes

  1305. I can't take it I said

1306. god told me he's gonna give me a better one

1307. I gave him a watch within two days I had a nicer one

1308. a two thousand dollar watch

  1309. I I go to Romania

1310. that's one ten years after they come out of communism

  1311. everybody's poor

1312. we're in this room with pastors

1313. this room only holds like maybe 75 people

1314. 200 wywammers crammed in you know wywammers

  1315. youth without money

1316. crammed in this room pastors dirt poor

1317. the Lord said I want you to give

1318. I want you I want you to give

  1319. I I forget his name Michael

1320. I want you to give Michael

  1321. the pastor your watch

  1322. I said I'm

1323. I'm OK I'm not gonna do that

1324. I said to him are you gonna give me a better one

  1325. he said no

1326. I said OK I'm not doing it then

1327. I mean this watch is worth more than his year's wages

1328. I go to bed that night at the hotel

1329. and the lord's like you you need every hour

1330. I wake up and the lord's like

1331. give him your watch I said

1332. are you gonna give me a better one

  1333. he said no

  1334. no no no

1335. I wake up at six in the morning plagued

1336. he's waiting for me cause

1337. give him your watch I said

1338. you're gonna give me a better one

  1339. he said no

  1340. I said OK

  1341. he said OK

1342. then I know what level of wealth you can handle

1343. I couldn't wait to get rid of that watch

1344. I gave that guy my watch he

1345. he must have known something about watches

  1346. he started sobbing

  1347. he's sobbing

1348. the Lord was right he didn't give me another watch

1349. he gave me hundreds of them

  1350. hundreds of watches

1351. everywhere I go people give me

1352. don't by by the way

  1353. don't give me watch

1354. cause it'll feel like I'm manipulated to service

  1355. I'm just telling you I have

1356. I have cabinets full of watches

1357. I have one watch someone gave me

  1358. Bill loves watches

1359. I don't even know anything about watches

1360. he came over this is six months ago

1361. he goes who gave you that watch

  1362. I said oh

1363. some friends from Hong Kong

1364. he goes you know what that watch is worth

  1365. I said I've no idea

1366. I said I've only wore it once

1367. I've had it for 10 years he goes

1368. let's Google it we Google it it's worth $42,750

1369. I'm just pointing out give and it shall be given to you

  1370. I just I

  1371. I I

1372. I use that as an example to say

1373. God's breaking the spirit of poverty off of us

  1374. and and and

  1375. and and I

1376. I don't I just want to pray right now

  1377. that the Lord

1378. would break the spirit of poverty off of us

1379. and it wouldn't it wouldn't be primarily about money

1380. it'd be about the fact that

1381. your daddy has enough for whatever you need

1382. and he's a good god if he doesn't give it to you yet

1383. it's cause you're not ready for it yet

1384. Lord I just pray right now that

1385. that you would break the spirit of poverty off of this

1386. off of this people off of this church

1387. off of this community off of my mind

1388. off of the mind of the global church

1389. god and that we would be a royal

1390. noble people and it would be

1391. as it was in the days of the Jewish people

1392. when they see the blessing on our house

  1393. they say the way

1394. when they see the way our children behave

1395. the way the joy that's in our marriages

  1396. the way that the

  1397. the the that

1398. that we were generous the way that we are

1399. are joyful even in trials

  1400. Lord they go

  1401. I don't know what that is

1402. but I want that I want that god

1403. I want that god that does that to them

1404. I want that god that keeps them from worrying

1405. even when they're in a bad situation

  1406. I want that god

1407. that that makes them bright when it's dark outside

1408. god I just release that to you

1409. in Jesus name and would you just say

1410. I receive that for myself

1411. I receive that for myself

1412. I receive it for my children

1413. I receive I receive it for my children's children

  1414. in Jesus name

1415. amen thank you so very much for listening
