-
well hello family
-
so good to be with you guys
-
yeah
-
it's an honor to be here
-
well I wrote a book
-
it only took me 15 years
-
no it
-
you know
-
it's really
-
it's been it's been my honor and privilege now for uh
-
20 something years to to walk through people
-
walk with people through their story through their pain
-
and so this is really you know
-
15 20 years of just serving people in the redemption
-
of walking through the valley of the shadow of death
-
and having the light of Jesus's face
-
just shine upon them you know
-
something really really beautiful is
-
you are actually wired for attachment
-
you're wired for attachment with god
-
yourself and others
-
and I love it I pray this over my kids almost every
-
um night
-
is I say to them may the Lord bless you and keep you
-
and cause his face to shine upon you
-
and one of the the greatest ways to walk through pain
-
is to know you have somebody's face
-
shining upon every part of you
-
and so this is a very very practical guide
-
um the
-
the first you know
-
hundred pages or so our
-
our stories and and just practical uh
-
tools to help you walk through pain
-
Jen and I created a framework called soil
-
which is what we use in our um
-
aisle internal leadership experience
-
to help leaders you know
-
grow in their relationship with themselves
-
others and god
-
and so in this is
-
is some of those frameworks
-
and then the end is really
-
actually
-
the practical place where you get to get your grief
-
and um
-
grief is simply the pain that is trapped and stored
-
within your body
-
and within your mind and within your heart
-
you get to get the grief up and out
-
through this thing we called mourning
-
and as you do that process
-
it's amazing what begins to come in
-
I mean so many people tell me all the time
-
they're like hey Justin
-
but I don't have any pain
-
and I simply look at them and say liar
-
no I don't say that
-
that would be rude that would that wouldn't be kind
-
I say I probably
-
I know because most of us live life numb
-
we live life detached from our hearts
-
and we're doing a lot of good things
-
we're saying a lot of good things
-
but in here and when our head hits the pillow
-
we feel lonely we feel lost
-
and we feel confused
-
and then we quote scriptures to ourselves like
-
the joy of the Lord is my strength shouldn't I be okay
-
and what I found out is there's really
-
you know three components of this experience
-
called integration or wholeness
-
which is bringing all of ourselves into the father
-
into the son and the Holy Spirit
-
and what that looks like is
-
is the three components are um forgiveness repentance
-
how many of you guys
-
have ever heard a sermon on forgiveness or repentance
-
so I knew a lot about those
-
but the third one was morning
-
and it was getting this grief up and out
-
and once I found out how to do that
-
now I've got to walk with hundreds of leaders
-
through this process of getting their grief up and out
-
so that all that joy of the Lord that we talk about
-
all that beauty of the Lord that we talk about
-
actually gets inside of us
-
because if your life is so full of pain
-
and you've never Learned how to process your story
-
what happens is there's no room for anything ever
-
there's no room for anything else to enter your soul
-
and morning allows you to drain out the processes
-
of your experiences
-
so that the things that we can believe
-
can begin to enter this very crucial part of us
-
as humans and I just want to let you know
-
god loves your humanity
-
he loves your humanness
-
and he wants to walk with you in this
-
so where did Andy go
-
I'm gonna fulfill that dream buddy
-
I wanna just
-
might as well do it right here right
-
this is the fulfillment there it is
-
dreams fulfilled today look at that night dreams
-
yeah
-
now now he gets to process pain
-
what a gift huh
-
oh literally
-
you guys the front of the book
-
you open up the first cover is
-
you get to give this away to somebody
-
you could actually write in it
-
like here
-
you get to process pain too
-
and what I love about um uh
-
just this process of of
-
of prospering pain it's so funny to watch
-
just watch people um
-
when we talk about this but it's a
-
it's a it's a fun
-
it's a fun book super fun
-
you get so much joy I'm teasing
-
it's not it's really deep
-
it's actually
-
yeah but the again
-
the end result really is joy
-
the joy of the Lord is your strength
-
and it gets to undergird you
-
and so we actually
-
we had an aisle accelerator lot yesterday here
-
if you were at that Whoo Whoo
-
we love you guys and so I had a few of my wife's books
-
The War on Your Voice
-
such a good book and I was gonna sell those too
-
but the challenge is we ran out yesterday
-
so we have no more of these
-
but you can get this one on Amazon
-
yeah um
-
is there a woman here here
-
that just got married recently
-
that does not have this book
-
that does not have this book
-
do you have it
-
come on come yes
-
I love you
-
so the war in your voice you can get that on Amazon
-
it's a great
-
so uh
-
we have you know
-
just Blake and I have something exciting coming up
-
look on the screen
-
so we have the veil within podcast coming out
-
we've already filmed three episodes
-
we're getting ready to release that
-
our friendship for the last 13 years
-
our life is like a podcast together
-
we're just doing what we've always done
-
we sit down and we start talking about something
-
about the Lord and we just go off
-
and so this is what's happening right now
-
we have three episodes um
-
it's not out yet it should be out in the next two weeks
-
and so I'm just excited about that and wanted to
-
to give you guys that
-
so you can just look forward to that
-
um you'll be able to find it in all the places
-
that we find everything
-
and this is something um
-
I just want to give you guys a gift from Jen and I
-
today this is our um
-
this is our aisle assessment
-
this actually helps you understand where you're at
-
in your internal leadership experience process
-
how you're doing with
-
leading yourself in the way of Jesus
-
I wanna um
-
encourage you take a picture of it
-
cause I don't want you to take the test right now
-
and then you can scan the QR code from that picture
-
um so
-
this is just an assessment
-
that will help you realize
-
where you're at in your internal leadership journey
-
and there's something very interesting to me
-
the greatest commandment is
-
love the Lord thy god with all thy heart soul
-
mind and strength and the second is
-
love your neighbor as
-
it's been very very interesting
-
but I hear very very
-
very few people in the church
-
that are just madly in love with Jesus
-
talking about
-
what does it look like to have healthy self love
-
and the challenges um I
-
I look at uh
-
love in a triad Father God at the top
-
Father Son Holy Spirit at the top
-
um others
-
and then ourselves and the challenges
-
there's like an Assumption
-
that you already know how to love yourself
-
and almost every human I meet
-
when I begin to hear their story
-
and when they begin to talk to them about themselves
-
one of the greatest uh
-
enemies of themselves isn't the enemy
-
it's actually their own self talk
-
it's the way they relate to themselves
-
it's the way they they talk
-
so most people don't really know how to love yourself
-
and yes
-
we put god first I love um
-
the Beatitudes I've been reading it almost every day
-
for the last four years and it says
-
blessed are the poor in spirit
-
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
-
simply that means to be utterly dependent on god
-
completely totally dependent on god
-
so Jesus is all in all the challenge is
-
is we're in him
-
so in that inness or witness
-
as Ephesians talks about over and over again
-
we want to know and learn how to actually have a a
-
a love for ourselves and we say it this way
-
you want to love yourself
-
the way that Jesus loves you
-
you want to be kind to yourself
-
the way Jesus is kind to you and patient with you
-
and I love it my wife says it all the time
-
Jesus is the slowest person she's ever met
-
he's so patient
-
can you be that patient with yourself
-
in your own process
-
so this test will just help you just kind of
-
assess where you're at and in that um
-
you can actually connect with us in other ways
-
so we'd love you to look at that
-
and so we're gonna talk about really
-
something fun this morning
-
I like to talk about fun subjects like pain
-
and that's what we're gonna talk about
-
cause it's what I wrote a book about
-
so um
-
I am really passionate about um
-
leading a soul revolution come on
-
an apostolic revolution
-
that really brings heaven to earth
-
through the process of people
-
in a healthy way knowing themselves
-
not in an unhealthy way
-
we obviously have the perversion that's very loud
-
you can go anywhere and buy a self help book right now
-
you can hear a lot about self
-
the challenge is a lot of it's not sanctified self
-
it's not in Christ self
-
and we wanna do everything from the lens
-
of being in Christ
-
and so
-
yeah on this really
-
this apostolic reformation of just the soul where
-
where Christians have a healthy spirit
-
where they know how to take care of their spirit man
-
but then they also know how to take care of their soul
-
which our soul is made up of our mind
-
will and emotions
-
and so we're gonna explore some of that today
-
but within this framework
-
within what we're talking about
-
I'd really love to
-
to just think about this right here in
-
in intimacy intimacy is really into me
-
you see and we're really
-
really looking for
-
intimacy is forged in the fire of vulnerability
-
it's forged in that fire
-
and it's one of the reasons Jen and I created aisle
-
is because we've Learned that people
-
how they heal best
-
is when they're seen and known in a real
-
safe way through safety
-
and because of a lot of our stories
-
it's why I talk so much about pain
-
um we a lot of times didn't have that safety
-
I'm coming from our external world
-
our culture our family of origin
-
there was a lot of unsafe experiences that LED us to
-
to just a a life that was detached on the inside
-
and so I do want to invite you guys
-
as you take this assessment
-
if you look at that I
-
I really feel like there's there's
-
there's a mission that we're on for not just Jen and I
-
and again we're in Bethel Redding right now
-
I
-
I'm so excited about seeing that culture impacted just
-
with Soul Health at a whole new level
-
and I'm the biggest fan of signs
-
wonders and miracles uh
-
my my
-
my wife my wife
-
my daughter's boyfriend
-
um came over yes
-
both of my my oldest daughters
-
they're in school ministry
-
and when you go to school ministry in Redding
-
if you're not if you're single
-
you find somebody it's just kind of like the gift
-
it's kind of like the package deal
-
school ministry so both of them find somebody and um
-
my my
-
my oldest daughter Kylie
-
her uh
-
her boyfriend Owen came over
-
and
-
it was one of the first or second times he came over
-
and he was telling us about his life
-
and it was super fun and he looks at me and he goes
-
hey Justin
-
you know I had this friend in high school that told me
-
if I ever get healed he'd meet Jesus
-
I said oh
-
tell me more
-
and we started to share miracle testimonies and stories
-
and when he was 9 years old
-
he broke his arm and he broke it
-
he had to have surgery and in the surgery
-
they had to do something with the bone
-
fuse it back
-
and so when he put his arms like this on a table
-
one of his arms was about
-
that much shorter than the other one
-
it was a good inch shorter
-
and he kept on going I've been prayed by so many people
-
and and we're
-
we're sitting there sharing testimonies
-
all the families around I had a big tri tip spread
-
I love cooking tri tip
-
and I'm there cooking and so I just got done cutting it
-
and he he shows it all
-
he shows it up and he's like
-
holding like this and I just go
-
oh wow
-
okay and
-
and I look at him and I say
-
in the name of Jesus grow
-
and before me and all the girls in general
-
there it just goes
-
and it completely lined up
-
it was a wild experience
-
I've seen miracles like that before
-
but this was I've never in that way with the hands
-
and so the bone either extended or
-
however that happens however
-
god did it supernaturally
-
but it was super fun
-
so I love miracles I love signs and wonders
-
I love the now of god but in that
-
I think at times we've missed the longevity process
-
it takes for attachment to be formed
-
because attachment is not a quick process
-
it's a slow process
-
again how
-
how many of you have ever had a Newborn
-
it wasn't just the one time you picked them up
-
that they felt oh
-
now we're we're bonded
-
how much work did that take ladies
-
that feeding process that beautiful process
-
and so
-
yeah so we're gonna go after that
-
and this is this is really what we're gonna talk about
-
so walking through pain
-
pain pleasure
-
and presence
-
and so this is one of my favorite uh
-
scriptures
-
that I've been studying now for the last three years
-
and this is at the end of Matthew
-
this is right after
-
one of the most exciting charges from Jesus
-
which is about loving your enemy
-
one of the only ways you know
-
you're actually walking out this attached life
-
to the Godhead is by loving your enemy
-
and I wanna let you know
-
if you don't think you have enemies you're lying
-
a bunch of Christians don't think they have enemies
-
we have lots of enemies
-
there's so much in the world that is an enemy
-
to what god wants to do in the world
-
but what we get to do is
-
we get to counteract the experience
-
of what an enemy is with love
-
and this is the beauty of Jesus
-
and so in this scripture
-
it's it's like
-
it's a massive scripture be perfect
-
therefore as my heavenly father is perfect
-
and that word within my personality was very tormenting
-
because that word meant to me
-
perform
-
as your heavenly father is perfect
-
and the Greek word is telios
-
and telios is a beautiful world word
-
because a better translation of this word would be
-
whole therefore
-
as my father is whole and what holiness is
-
is wholeness is our ability to bring all of who we are
-
into the light of the glory and presence of god
-
all of you and so many of us long to bring
-
some parts of us
-
but other parts we don't like to bring
-
a great test for that before you turn
-
the TV on
-
oh thank you so much
-
Lord
-
that I get ready to watch a show tonight or a movie
-
and I thank you that you're gonna be here with me
-
and where I'm gonna abide with you
-
as I turn on this TV show
-
just inviting you in to what I'm watching with you
-
just bring you into it and just find out what happens
-
I'm gonna bring you in you know
-
I don't like to pray for food
-
just in the the old religious way it felt like
-
but in the new way of father
-
thank you for this beautiful meal that's set before me
-
that's gonna bring nutrition to my body and
-
and it really helps with overeating
-
because you when you invite him into things
-
it's amazing what you will do and won't do anymore
-
and wholeness is when we're able to bring everything
-
into the light of who he is
-
and so one of the things that
-
that takes us on this journey with Jesus
-
and you know
-
Jesus was honest about his pain
-
and so Jesus walked out wholeness
-
he didn't walk out with parts of him
-
that he brought into church
-
in the temple and different places
-
and other parts of him that was just for him alone
-
he brought him whole his whole self everywhere he went
-
and you know
-
it really makes me think about the garden of Gethsemane
-
with Jesus and it's such a
-
a wild experience of Jesus
-
processing pain with the father
-
and so he said to the father he
-
he goes in this chapter and he says
-
father take this cup from me
-
I don't I don't wanna do this
-
I don't wanna be here and to me
-
it's reflective of the psalmist David saying god
-
where are you
-
god I'm about to do something that's really hard
-
speaking to his father say
-
I'm about to do something I don't want to do
-
this is gonna be really really painful
-
very very difficult
-
and then right after he's just
-
he's expressing his pain to the father
-
he goes to his friends and these are his
-
this is this is his vulnerability buddies
-
these are his friends
-
that he gets to be seen and known by
-
his friends that he has intimacy with
-
James and John and
-
and he says to them what are you doing
-
why are you sleeping what did he ask him to do
-
he said stay up and pray
-
he does this process three times back and forth
-
of being honest with his pain
-
and I I love it
-
Jesus never sinned yet he still said
-
take this cup from me
-
and within our movement I'm very
-
very proud of us for the way we guard our tongue
-
it's important to guard your mouth
-
guard what you say
-
but one of the things that I've noticed
-
as people guard what they say
-
is they lose something very
-
very important to authenticity which is honesty
-
they don't actually know how they're doing anymore
-
in the present moment
-
they don't know how to be present with themselves
-
because they're trying to sound a certain way
-
that they think is protecting them
-
right and I believe
-
you know in James
-
it talks all about guard the tongue
-
it's the rudder of the our
-
our life and it's a really important thing to guard
-
but David modeled that in a very
-
very unique way yeah
-
if you had some of this this Ling
-
this lens on of you're not supposed to say that
-
almost half of what David wrote in the Psalms
-
was all him sounding like he was complaining
-
and you know what god said about David
-
you're a man after my heart
-
because he had a heart
-
he actually knew what to do with his heart
-
he didn't just stay in the metanoia
-
in the mind in the brain
-
and I love uh
-
first um
-
first Christians 12 it talks about
-
you know don't be conformed to this world
-
be transformed by the renewing of your mind
-
and I think that we've also forgot
-
that the renewing of our mind
-
is also about the capturing of
-
the renewing of our heart
-
our our emotions
-
and what's going on in the inside of us
-
and so to be in that
-
you know
-
telling the truth sets you free
-
you know it says that the truth will set you free
-
make sure that you're honest in telling the truth
-
cause if you forget to be honest
-
this is what happens in the psychological world
-
they call it fractures or splits
-
is our head and our heart begin to split into two
-
and you don't trust yourself no more
-
and I don't mean the yucky part of trust yourself
-
I mean that in in Christ trust yourself
-
and you then don't have a relationship with you
-
because you don't know what to do with emotion
-
you don't know what to do with the heart um life
-
and so which brings me to the joyous passage of happy
-
blessed are those who mourn
-
happy are you who are sad
-
this is how you could translate
-
this is literally in the Greek
-
you could translate this verse as
-
happy are those who are sad
-
why are they happy and when they're sad
-
it's cause they have an expectation of comfort
-
there it is yeah
-
that's right they have the expectation of
-
who is with them in the middle of sadness
-
this is why David got to be so honest
-
though I'm in Sheol or hell
-
the uttermost parts of the earth the depth of pain
-
I will fear no evil because you're with me
-
you're with me he cares about you when you're up here
-
and when you're down here
-
and if you never go to here or here
-
you stay here
-
you know what this is a numb
-
shallow sad existence
-
because you don't experience the expanse of
-
what it means to be human
-
in the context of witness that he's with you
-
and so many of us are afraid to go down to heal
-
we're afraid to go down into our pain
-
because we're afraid we're gonna get lost in it
-
guess who already found you
-
guess who already called you his own
-
guess whose face is shining upon you all day long
-
always
-
he's so happy to be with you where you are
-
so morning
-
we experience comfort
-
which opens an increased door for healing
-
which leads to this process of joy
-
when you skip morning and try to go straight to joy
-
your joy is shallow
-
it's discontented joy
-
which Matthew 5 um
-
6 says blessed are the meek
-
for they will inherit the earth
-
a better way to say that is
-
blessed are those who are content with who they are
-
no more no less
-
that's the moment they find themselves
-
proud owners of everything that cannot be bought
-
that's what the message says
-
contentment that I can be good
-
that this is me
-
I have really good things happen
-
and I've had really traumatic things happen
-
wow
-
and when I can bring all of me to all of him
-
even though all of me is already in all of him
-
but when I can wake up to the reality
-
my soul starts to wake up
-
my soul starts to be reformed
-
my soul starts to experience
-
the glory and the beauty of god
-
in a whole new way and this is the way you love others
-
is because you actually are so full inside
-
with love from god and love for yourself
-
that love just spills out everywhere you go
-
just spills all over you
-
and so pleasure and pain
-
are are
-
are some of the the experiences we have that
-
that we're gonna look at
-
and so as many of us really
-
we've Learned to avoid pain
-
and when pain overwhelms us
-
these are the things that will happens within our soul
-
we begin to get numb we begin to perform
-
we begin to get distracted
-
we begin to dissociate or disconnect
-
we begin to walk out control
-
if you have struggled with control
-
I promise you there's some pain under that
-
that needs the light and beauty of Jesus
-
that's good
-
anxiety
-
irritability
-
exhaustion
-
blank I feel blank
-
in his presence is fullness
-
joy as right hand are pleasures forevermore
-
and in that place of him
-
wanting to experience pleasures with us
-
when our soul is detached from self we feel blank
-
and ultimately
-
oh it's supposed to say disconnected
-
I missed the diss
-
she's a big but
-
she's a big big big word to miss there
-
but I'm I accept myself right where I'm at
-
and this is what you get within me
-
and we feel so disconnected
-
and you want this alive
-
vibrant connection with yourself
-
not that seeks its own way or seeks itself
-
but it's just content with
-
who you are and guess what
-
you have weaknesses and strengths
-
and when you only focus on your strengths
-
you become blind to who you are
-
you're not walking out wholeness
-
which leads to really gross things like narcissism
-
and so when we're holding pain
-
we gotta go to pleasure
-
because anytime you think of pain
-
what we long for is pleasure
-
and the challenges is so many of us have cheapened
-
comfort comfort has become an external reality
-
it's become something that we look to fill us up
-
in a temporal very temporary way
-
and it's so sad because most of these
-
all of these things are gifts from god right
-
they're actually so healthy
-
when they're in the right place
-
for those that people that mourn
-
do these things well
-
people who don't get the grief up and out of them
-
end up trading this
-
the comfort of him for the comfort of things
-
which produces our greatest epidemic of addiction
-
that we've had in the history of the world
-
that's happening right now
-
it's because of
-
people don't know how to face their pain
-
they've never been shown how though
-
they've never been taught how
-
they've never had somebody walk with them in their pain
-
oh
-
so now they walk around stigmatized with all this stuff
-
like I'm a sex addict
-
or I'm a drunk I'm
-
I'm these kind of things
-
we actually purpose it as their identity
-
which is never their identity
-
it's they went for it because they needed to feel good
-
and god designed them to feel good
-
I I I
-
I work with men all the time
-
and women that have sexual addiction
-
and most of the time
-
it's not because they have a giant spirit of lust
-
demon that's floating over them
-
there is there are
-
there is those times and then we just
-
we get Blake and we go wow
-
say begone in Jesus name the challenges is when we say
-
begone in Jesus name
-
and the demon literally flees
-
and then they walk around empty for the next two years
-
because they've never found out what could fill it up
-
then that enemy goes against a bunch of other enemies
-
and then they're more tormented
-
with Deliverance Ministry
-
without the process of actually loving yourself
-
and learning how to walk through that process
-
creates a bunch of more broken people
-
that's why discipleship formation is such a big process
-
sanctification
-
the process of growing from glory to glory
-
being holy set apart
-
and so it's such a big deal that we walk with people
-
we walk with ourselves with the Godhead
-
through these processes and for most of us
-
we're not in deep addiction over here
-
but these things rather than being blessings from god
-
they're numbing experiences that just mute our soul
-
where we have shallow experience on the inside of us
-
and we feel sad but we don't know why
-
and most of the time
-
it's because we've never faced the pain inside of us
-
we've never got that grief up and out
-
and so our our soul is so full
-
and so I love that these are blessings
-
and as believers we need to see them as blessings
-
when spirit soul
-
and body fall out of alignment
-
this is what happens we fracture internally
-
we disconnect there it is
-
you see that I got the dis in there guys
-
to connect we disconnect from ourselves
-
we lose peace
-
so this is one of the ways to restore
-
this is actually
-
a healthy relationship with these puppies
-
how many of you have a healthy relationship with fear
-
in here I sure do
-
I'm serious
-
I'm like
-
so confused about our streams relationship with fear
-
get that last one out there
-
so if you notice about these eight core emotions
-
there's only one that's like that's the good one
-
all those other ones are bad
-
those are all those are all demons
-
look at all those demons
-
those aren't emotions
-
Blake get him
-
and what happens is when we don't realize
-
the difference between the three pathways
-
to actually become tormented
-
is emotions are simply a physiological response
-
to something happening in the moment
-
an attitude is a state of being
-
when you invite an attitude of sadness
-
or an attitude of fear that opens up the demon of fear
-
it opens up the
-
the scriptures called the spirit of fear
-
Lord isn't giving you a spirit of fear
-
but a power of a sound mind
-
that's nothing to do with the emotion of fear
-
has to do with the spirit that's wrapped behind it
-
and the challenges is a lot of times
-
we're trying to cast something out of us
-
that is actually an emotional signal
-
that's trying to tell us something that's very
-
very helpful
-
and so when we're not emotionally intelligent
-
and we're only spiritually intelligent
-
it's the other things that creates a spiritual bypass
-
where we bypass the very thing that Jesus came to save
-
he didn't just come to set you free
-
and make you the shell of a person to like
-
fly around fly around in glory
-
without a body
-
the end of the world is not about heaven
-
it's about a new earth
-
with an embodied believers that are actually attached
-
so connected and so whole inside themselves
-
that just creates the beautiful community of god
-
where the face of god is shining over them all the time
-
all day long
-
this is what it's all about
-
we're not gonna be like
-
floating in body I mean out um
-
just spirits around
-
but so many of us want that
-
and the reason you want that
-
is because
-
you never Learned how to have self attachment
-
you've never been shown how to have actually
-
a healthy experience with sadness or fear anger
-
and we could talk about all these for hours
-
but we can't
-
so all of all emotion emotion is not good
-
or bad it just is
-
and
-
when you begin to develop a relationship with yourself
-
you'll have these and be able to discern
-
discernment is not so much about others
-
there is the spirit of sermon
-
it's a big deal it's a good thing
-
but it's mostly about learning how to discern yourself
-
is this an enemy is this the enemy
-
we know what to do with the enemy
-
wow
-
we said go
-
we just haven't Learned what to do with ourselves
-
so
-
look at that little guy look at him
-
do you know who that is dun dun dun
-
that's Superman I mean Justin
-
and you know
-
Justin wanted to be Superman I love that cape
-
ah
-
so fun
-
and so about two years later
-
I was riding horses
-
and we'd go to my grandparents in Modesto
-
and we'd ride horses and it was super fun
-
so much joy being with them
-
enjoying the horses enjoying their cows
-
I love being out there in their backyard
-
they had nine acres and about nine or 10 cows
-
I think two horses and so we'd go riding with them
-
um when I was little
-
and when I turned six I started to ride
-
um
-
we we
-
we got an opportunity to go to a neighbor's house
-
and this neighbor had a special horse
-
like a horse that was supposed to be
-
like an award winning horse and supposed to be a very
-
very fun moment and so me and my brother
-
and my mom we were super excited to go ride the horse
-
and as we were riding
-
um I got to ride the horse
-
and my brother got to ride the horse
-
and that was just all peaceful
-
and then my mom got on the horse
-
and my mom
-
my mom uh
-
the the cowboy who was helping her
-
leading her on the the horse
-
started going yeah
-
you wanna go fast Mickey
-
you wanna go fast Michelle
-
Mom's name is Mickey Michelle
-
and so he begins to like
-
had this little like
-
whip thing out there I don't even know what it is
-
I'm not I was not
-
I have not been a horse person
-
you can find this out in a second and
-
and they begin to whip the horse
-
and the horse starts to just like
-
just take off and he had it still on a lead rope
-
and my mom begins to scream
-
and is falling off the horse screaming
-
and that little Superman boy just lost his ever
-
loving mind
-
I just remember start screaming at the top of my lungs
-
get her off the horse get her off the horse
-
and I'm bawling I'm
-
I'm just crying my eyes out
-
I feel so scared
-
I can actually feel the sensation of fear inside me
-
which was not the spirit of fear
-
it was the emotion of fear
-
I can feel that fear all through my stomach right now
-
and I was so afraid
-
and I remember thinking my mom was gonna die
-
and again I'm six years old
-
so all I know is what I'm seeing
-
and I'm thinking she's gonna die
-
and I she gets off
-
she's okay she was scared too
-
I was so angry at the man
-
I'm like I'm gonna be like Jesus
-
I'm gonna go make a whip
-
i'mma come back here first
-
i'mma turn over the horse rather than a table
-
and then i'mma turn over you
-
Mister Cowboy
-
and I was
-
I was angry I was sad
-
I was scared I didn't know what to do
-
and I remember
-
it locked something in me from a core memory
-
it locked in my soul
-
that ah
-
I never wanna feel powerless again
-
I never wanna feel like I felt in that moment
-
it locked in that soul it locked in my soul
-
that I carry responsibility for others safety choices
-
marriages faith outcome
-
I carry responsibility for everybody else's life
-
and again I was six
-
and it obviously wasn't only from that experience
-
but it locked a responsibility in that little boy
-
in that little Superman
-
that walked around to
-
to everybody he met carrying the weight of your health
-
your salvation is in my hands
-
and this was all implicit
-
this was not frontal lobe
-
this was not in the front of my mind or memory
-
this is all an explicit experience
-
there was way down in my subconscious
-
which LED me to when I was
-
uh
-
to 2,000 and one 2000
-
twenty one sorry
-
it LED me into this experience for 2,019 20 21
-
into this really deep depression
-
and I could not figure out why or how
-
um the depression was going on
-
what was going on and through a whole bunch of work
-
which we don't have time to get into right now
-
I I begin to discover
-
within some of these core memories
-
lied this boy
-
that felt responsible for everybody around them
-
and I had another theological kind of mishap
-
happened to me
-
it was an experience I had with god when I was
-
I think eight or nine
-
and I saw myself standing on the hand of god
-
and I heard a voice say um
-
and it was looking over the pit of hell
-
and I heard a voice say
-
these are the people you didn't tell about me
-
so I had all this responsibility
-
for how everybody was doing
-
and in that season uh
-
the years prior to 2,019
-
a couple of my friends got divorced
-
and some things started to happen
-
that I felt responsible for
-
and if if you would have said any of that to me
-
I would have looked at you and laughed and said
-
that doesn't I don't care
-
I I mean
-
I care about them
-
but I don't take responsibility for that
-
but it was locked and trapped up in some pain
-
that I never processed
-
that I didn't get up and out
-
and so
-
some of the things that I just
-
really wanna leave you with guys
-
some of the ways I just wanna encourage you
-
is as you begin to come before the father of Grace
-
and say
-
is there anything in my story
-
that you want to bring comfort to
-
that I'm unaware of
-
and in the in the back of the book
-
you'll also see a a QR code
-
that literally
-
has a video of how to choose a core memory
-
it has a video about
-
what to do when you feel stuck'cause so many of us
-
when it comes to pain and numbness
-
we're just like I just don't know how to get out
-
and I'm real thankful that this is a resource
-
to come under you guys
-
to undergird you in your process with pain in your guys
-
stories and so if you could just stand up with me
-
blessed are those who mourn
-
for you will be comforted
-
I wanna put your hand on your heart
-
and just close your eyes
-
Emmanuel is who wants to show up to you
-
god with you a lot of us we know Jehovah Jireh
-
the god who provides we know Jehovah Rapha
-
the god who heals but we don't know God Emmanuel
-
who wants to be with us in every place of our story
-
not just in the highs but in the lowest of lows
-
he wants to be there in the midst of your story
-
and as your hand is on your heart
-
I just thank you father
-
that you are here we are not alone
-
in the areas of our story
-
that we feel scared to even look at
-
you are there
-
and you wanna take us into a process of mourning
-
that leads to a deep seated comfort
-
the being held by the one who gave his life
-
that we might have life into healing
-
into this eternal joy
-
and so I ask that that process
-
that slowed down process
-
would be even more apparent in this culture
-
that we would have such safe people
-
that we could actually be those who weep
-
with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice
-
in Jesus name amen amen
