  1. Welcome to the podcast of the White Church in Adelaide, South

  2. Australia. I'm going to invite Dave up to

  3. share this morning. Father, we bless your word and

  4. we know that your word You say Lord, that you would confirm

  5. Your word with signs and wonders following.

  6. So we asked just even on the back of what Dave is sharing

  7. this morning, that in our gathering you would confirm Your

  8. word in Jesus name. Amen.

  9. Excellent. I'm expecting the way we should

  10. be in the church, in his body, just off the back of what Justin

  11. just prayed there. Like we should be expecting to

  12. see God's mighty hand at work, to see, you know, signs and

  13. miracles and wonders. Like we serve the Lord.

  14. We serve a God that created all things.

  15. We serve a God who, you know, sent his Son, that the Lord God

  16. came as a man and did amazing things.

  17. You know, I was reading this week about the feeding of the

  18. 5000. These are impossible things that

  19. God did. That God could take 7 loaves and

  20. feed thousands of people. Like that's impossible.

  21. This is the God we serve. This is the same God that we've

  22. been singing to this morning. This is the same God that that

  23. we, you know, we claim to worship because we do, but we

  24. claim to give our life to this God and to serve him and to

  25. follow him. So what could be impossible for

  26. for this God to be working in and through you as a vessel for

  27. his Holy Spirit. Amen.

  28. I'm just trying to stir us up to, you know, increase our

  29. expectation for what God can do innocent through us.

  30. We don't live a mediocre life. You know, the, the body of

  31. Christ, the church isn't, isn't just, you know, a club where we

  32. gather and we sing songs together.

  33. This is like the life of God is administered to the world around

  34. us through his body and we get to be involved in that.

  35. Like if you're in this room and and you believe that Christ is

  36. your Saviour and your Lord, like you get to be a part of what

  37. God's doing. And that excites me.

  38. I hope that excites you. Like it doesn't matter how old

  39. you are. It doesn't matter how young,

  40. young you are in the Lord, all these things you get to be a

  41. part of the same thing that we're all get to be a part of,

  42. you know, So that's that's wonderful.

  43. I hope it fills us with hope and strength.

  44. This morning we're going to talk about his the gospel Justin was

  45. sharing last week about who Jesus is.

  46. So if you haven't heard that, please go and listen to that

  47. because it this this week builds upon last week.

  48. You know, we're going to talk about the gospel, what what

  49. Jesus did, what it means that Jesus came and lived as God in

  50. the flesh and all these things. So go and check it out.

  51. But the gospel, the gospel, the word gospel, what does it mean?

  52. I mean, you guys know, I'm sure. Let's shout it out.

  53. What does the word gospel mean? It's the good news.

  54. Yeah. There we go.

  55. Good news. Bianca knows it's the good news.

  56. It's it's it's bringing, you know, good news, tidings of, of,

  57. of good news. And you know that question, what

  58. is the gospel? The first four books of our New

  59. Testament Bible are known as the Gospels.

  60. And it's simply just it's about Jesus, right.

  61. The gospels are about Jesus, the birth of Jesus, the life of

  62. Jesus, the death of Jesus, the resurrection of Jesus, the

  63. ascension of Jesus. It's all about Jesus.

  64. The gospel is about Jesus. There is 90 plus uses of this

  65. word gospel. I'm not going to try and

  66. pronounce the Greek word, but that word that's translated

  67. gospel in our in our English Bible.

  68. It's like over 90 times we find it in the scripture and to

  69. understand what a what a word or a topic means in the Bible, we

  70. got to go looking. We got to go looking through the

  71. Bible and see what the word of God has to say about what that

  72. word means. So, so when the first mention is

  73. important in in the word of God too, because quite often it will

  74. set a foundation for what that word actually means.

  75. So go looking for the first word and then read a whole bunch of

  76. other references to the word. And so let's seek some of these

  77. words. I didn't read all 90 of these

  78. words, just so you know, I didn't go like, you know,

  79. extensively look at them all. Just Full disclosure from me

  80. here. I did a few, probably more than

  81. a few. But anyway, where the first

  82. mention of this word gospel is found in Matthew 423 and it says

  83. this, it says Jesus went about all Galilee teaching in their

  84. synagogues, preaching the gospel of the Kingdom.

  85. So the Gospel of the Kingdom Scripture emphasis emphasizes

  86. that the gospel is about a king and his Kingdom.

  87. That's what the gospel is. Jesus is the king.

  88. We learned last week who Jesus is.

  89. He is the king. And the gospel is the message of

  90. the king and the and the Kingdom which he rules and reigns in

  91. which he rules and reigns from heaven.

  92. Now he's coming back to rule and reign in a very real way, in a

  93. very real earth, right? Like that's the Kingdom, Jesus

  94. is the king. And so, you know, this king in

  95. the Kingdom, it's central to the Gospel message.

  96. We can't understand the gospel without knowing that that Jesus

  97. is a king, is the king, and that we're we get to be a part of his

  98. Kingdom. We are subjects to the king in

  99. his Kingdom. That's not a bad thing.

  100. It's good thing to be a servant to God.

  101. It's a good thing to be a servant to a good king.

  102. It's a terrible thing to be a servant to a bad king, but Jesus

  103. is a good king. He is a righteous king, He is a

  104. holy king, and it's a great thing for us to lay down our

  105. lives and serve a good king. Amen.

  106. Excellent. So other mentions of this word

  107. gospel, this good news, it makes clear that this, this message,

  108. this gospel message should be preached.

  109. It should be spoken boldly. It should be shared.

  110. It should be defended. The gospel needs to be defended

  111. and it needs to be taken to the ends of the earth.

  112. That's our responsibility. Jesus has given us the gospel.

  113. Jesus. Jesus has given us his Holy

  114. Spirit, and we now have a responsibility to preach the

  115. good news boldly, to share, to defend it, and to take it.

  116. To take it wherever we go to the ends of the earth.

  117. And so that Jesus King Jesus and his coming Kingdom could be

  118. known so that it could be known and it could, and that Jesus the

  119. king could be obeyed, right. People need to know who Jesus

  120. is. They need to know that there's

  121. a, there's a Kingdom that he rules and they need to know how,

  122. how to be a follower of Jesus. And we need to teach them to do

  123. that. Jesus said that go and teach

  124. them all the things that I've spoken.

  125. So the the gospel needs to be obeyed.

  126. People need to know the gospel and obey the gospel in order to

  127. have hope and peace and glorious future and life.

  128. That's where those things are found through the gospel,

  129. through the good news, and only through the gospel.

  130. Amen. Excellent.

  131. So the message of Jesus offers us salvation.

  132. Jesus can save us. Amen.

  133. Jesus saved us if if we're believers in this room.

  134. Thank you Lord, like I hope that stirs some Thanksgiving in your

  135. heart. Thank you God for salvation.

  136. But what what is Jesus that that opens this question, what do we

  137. need to be saved from? So God is offering to save me.

  138. And the short answer is that that God that Jesus saves us

  139. from the judgement that's to come.

  140. God will judge the world. God will judge every single

  141. person for their sin. What is sin?

  142. The Bible clearly defines what sin is.

  143. This is the best definition that I could find. 1 John 3 verse 4,

    1 John 3:4

  144. it says, I'll just give you a moment.

  145. We've been pushing for us guys to have our paper Bibles.

  146. So I'm not just going to move on from that.

  147. If you've got a paper Bible, just I'll give you a moment just

  148. to find it there. So that was 1 John 3 verse 4.

    1 John 3:4

  149. This is the the Bible's definition for sin.

  150. It says whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness and catch

  151. this and sin is lawlessness. So sin is is lawlessness.

  152. Sin is not following God's law. That's basically what it is,

  153. right? Lawlessness.

  154. Sin is lawlessness. It's not following God.

  155. It's not doing his walking in his ways.

  156. God has ways, God has good ways. They're perfect, they're

  157. righteous, they're holy. And sin is when we don't follow

  158. those ways. That's the short answer, but in

  159. order to understand more, we need to, to go back to the start

  160. and look at God's plan for his creation.

  161. And so, you know, I would say that like God's plan for his

  162. creation, I, I think that this verse that you find all through

  163. the Bible wraps it up pretty well.

  164. It says I will be their God and they will be my people.

  165. That is God's desire and will for mankind, that He would be

  166. their God and that we would be His people.

  167. And we see that all through the Scripture.

  168. That's God's ultimate plan. And you know when that fits into

  169. the King and the Kingdom, I will be their king, they will be a

  170. part of My Kingdom. Do you see the picture here?

  171. It's the same picture. He is God, we are His people,

  172. God is perfect, God is only good all the time.

  173. Can we get an Amen for that? God is good all the time.

  174. He is only good. He can't be bad.

  175. He can't never be wrong. He is always right.

  176. There is no darkness in him at all.

  177. He only creates good. God can't make things that are

  178. bad. God can't make an unrighteous

  179. person. God created mankind, righteous,

  180. pure, holy, perfect in the Garden of Eden.

  181. That's what God did. 1 John 15 says that God is light and in

  182. him there is no darkness at all. That's amazing to me.

  183. That's like, you got to take a hold of that and believe that to

  184. be true, that God is light. There is no darkness in him at

  185. all. That means that I don't get to

  186. question whether God's right or wrong and whether what he's

  187. doing is the right thing. He is light.

  188. He is right all the time and I can just trust him and I don't

  189. need to question him because he's God and I'm his servant.

  190. I'm, I belong to him. He's never wrong.

  191. So this perfect God made a perfect world and in this

  192. perfect world he made a perfect garden.

  193. The garden was in a place called Eden, perfect garden.

  194. And he created Adam and Eve perfect in every way.

  195. He said they are this is very good.

  196. If God says something is very good, is it good?

  197. Is it very good? It's like, again, God can't

  198. create something that's bad. He made Adam and Eve.

  199. He declared them to be good, right?

  200. Good is good according to God. God let your yes be yes and your

  201. no be no. God doesn't speak in riddles.

  202. That is good, very good. So we trust that Adam and Eve

  203. were made perfect. God gave them authority to take

  204. care of this perfect place, right?

  205. They would, they were to keep this garden.

  206. They were to steward God's creation.

  207. That there was an authority that God gave mankind over his

  208. creation. They would they would rule over

  209. it that it would be in submission to them, right?

  210. It's a hierarchy. It's God.

  211. God gives authority to Adam and Eve and everything else was

  212. under them, which is pretty cool.

  213. That's that's God's intention for mankind to rule and reign

  214. with him. Isn't that cool?

  215. The king and the Kingdom, we are going to be reigning and ruling

  216. with Christ in his Kingdom, those that belong to him.

  217. It's pretty cool. Everyone has a place.

  218. It's very amazing. And so you know, God created

  219. them in this perfect place and he walked with them.

  220. That's amazing to me that the that the creator of all says

  221. that he was walking in the cool of the garden.

  222. He was with them, he was with them in the garden.

  223. Isn't that amazing? And again, this is God's

  224. intention. He wants to he wanted to create

  225. people to be with him, to know him, right?

  226. It's relational. God is a relational God.

  227. He wants to know us. And so he walked with them and,

  228. and I think that, you know, he taught them, he instructed them.

  229. Like when God created an Adam and Eve and walked with him in

  230. the garden, who were they going to go ask questions?

  231. What is this thing? What does that mean?

  232. Who are they not going to ask each other?

  233. Who are they going to ask? They're going to ask God, Hey,

  234. God, what's this thing over here that's called a lake?

  235. Go and swim in it. It's wonderful.

  236. Like, do you see what I'm saying?

  237. Like God's with them and He's instructing them and He's

  238. teaching them. And that's the God that we

  239. serve. He wants to lead us into good

  240. things. He wants to show us the amazing

  241. things that He's made. He wants us to partake in his

  242. goodness. Isn't that cool?

  243. Thank you, Lord. And he gives them one warning.

  244. Our God warns us because he's a good God.

  245. Our God warns us of the things to stay away from, of the things

  246. that are harmful. God's not giving.

  247. Like I'm just getting sidetracked here for a second,

  248. but as believers, as followers of Christ, this is not law to

  249. you. Do what I say and everything

  250. will be good. It's like, do what I'm asking

  251. you to do, show, follow me, you know, submit to my ways because

  252. they're good and I will lead you into good things.

  253. God's word is life to us. He is a good God.

  254. He wants to lead us in truth and, and light, you know, be the

  255. lamp to our feet. This is the God that we follow,

  256. same God in the garden. It's the same God that's leading

  257. us today through his Holy Spirit.

  258. Getting ahead of myself, come back to your notes.

  259. So God gave them one warning. Don't eat of the tree, of the

  260. fruit of this one tree, because in the day that you do that, you

  261. will surely die. They did it right.

  262. They they ate of this tree. So, so they stepped outside of

  263. God's, God's instruction. And what happens when you, when

  264. they stepped outside of God's instruction, they, they, well,

  265. they died, yes. And they sinned against God's

  266. law, lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness, right?

  267. They stepped outside of God's law and they sinned and they,

  268. they died in that day. Jesus, God said that they would

  269. die on that day and they died to death in that day.

  270. They went from being righteous and pure and perfect to, to

  271. becoming unrighteous and sinful and rebellious.

  272. That's what they become. So they died a spiritual death

  273. and now straight away they're experiencing things that God

  274. never intended. They're experiencing shame,

  275. they're experiencing fear, right?

  276. They're they're hiding from God. They're insecure.

  277. God never intended for us to be living that way.

  278. It was never God's intention. God didn't create us for fear.

  279. God didn't create us for shame. Our stepping outside of God's

  280. perfect will is what brought those things upon ourselves.

  281. And so they hid from God and, and it says that Adam and Eve

  282. were, were made to leave this perfect place.

  283. They could no longer say they were no longer perfect.

  284. They no longer fit in God's perfect creation with a perfect

  285. God in a perfect place. God forces them out, but but not

  286. before he covers them, not before he takes care of them,

  287. not before he speaks hope, right?

  288. Because, because the gospel is declared when, when sin happens,

  289. you know, it's not in my notes, but he, he talks about the, the

  290. fall, when he talks about the things that will now happen.

  291. But he talks about Jesus. You know, he, he, he talks about

  292. him and says that, you know, the, the serpent will nip at his

  293. heel, but he will crush the head.

  294. This is Jesus. So he's in that God's giving

  295. hope. He's declaring the gospel.

  296. He's declaring that Jesus is coming right from the moment

  297. that sin enters. And so they're made to leave and

  298. and they're separated from God and and they can follow him no

  299. more. That is the worst thing that

  300. could possibly happen for mankind, that they couldn't

  301. follow him anymore. So now they're out in this world

  302. that, you know, because it creation itself falls, thorns

  303. and thistles. Things aren't the way that it

  304. was intended. And now they're going to have to

  305. try and work it out for themselves.

  306. If they've got any questions who they're going to ask now they're

  307. asking themselves and they're like, you know, led by their own

  308. understanding and all of these things.

  309. God doesn't leave them completely on their own, but

  310. they're they're not walking with him in the way that they once

  311. were. They don't have his leading in

  312. his guidance anymore. They can't follow him

  313. spiritually dead. They're dead on the inside.

  314. They're not connected to the life source.

  315. The Bible describes this state as as walking in the flesh.

  316. You know, it's, it's being led by our carnal nature.

  317. Like we're no longer led by the Spirit of God.

  318. We're no longer led by God. Now we're, we're left to our own

  319. devices, we're left to our own carnal understanding, our own

  320. instincts and emotions. And remember our instincts and

  321. our emotions are now broken. Now we're feeling fear.

  322. Now we're feeling hurt. So now there's the, there's a

  323. response that we, that we have. It's like the fight or flight

  324. thing. Fight or flight was never God's

  325. intention, right? You're either going to have to

  326. fight or you're going to have to run.

  327. That was never God's intention, right?

  328. So, but but that now we're, we're acting out of out of these

  329. emotions and, and these this brokenness from the inside.

  330. And we do feel that we need to fight and defend ourselves and

  331. we do feel that we need to run and we do feel that we need to

  332. hide. We still experience that right

  333. now, like I'm sure that we do like we are hide from God

  334. sometimes not for long. He doesn't let me hide for long

  335. anymore, but that, you know, the period of me hiding from him is

  336. getting shorter. But he like, I know that I know

  337. when I'm hiding from him now and I don't, I don't hide from God

  338. anymore. I mean, I don't not in the same

  339. way that I used to. I don't hide from him anymore.

  340. I turn to him because I know I've trusted him.

  341. I've walked down the road a bit. I know that he's got good

  342. intentions for me. I know that when I find myself

  343. falling and falling short of him, you know, in lawlessness, I

  344. know that he welcomes me straight back in.

  345. He wants me to be living a good life with him.

  346. He wants to protect me. He wants to keep me safe.

  347. He wants to for me to be blessed and be a blessing, right?

  348. So I don't run from him anymore. I turn to him all right, so

  349. another thing that we experience is, you know, with all this

  350. brokenness and, and, and our instincts being messed up is

  351. that we're living at the expense of each other.

  352. Now, you know, you see it straight away, Adam and Eve,

  353. just, you know, at the expense of each other.

  354. This is one of the things that you and I have to face today in

  355. battle because our flesh wants us to live at the expense of

  356. others. And we're called to lay down our

  357. flesh, lay down our lives for, you know, love God and one love

  358. one another. That's the picture.

  359. That's how we get back into following God in his ways.

  360. We've got to, we've got to live for one another.

  361. We've got to live for him. We're not living for ourselves,

  362. right? So through the Bible, you know,

  363. after Adam and Eve are cast out of the garden, the, the Bible

  364. pattern is just this pattern of God just reaching out to mankind

  365. again and in various ways through people and through

  366. prophets. And you know, he, he comes to a,

  367. a nation himself and he comes down and onto the mountain and

  368. he reveals himself. God reaching out, God giving

  369. direction again. Think about that.

  370. They've gone from following God and, and walking closely with

  371. him and asking him any question to being cut off from him.

  372. And now God raises up a nation and says, I'll put my name with

  373. them and they will follow me and I'll give them my laws.

  374. What's he doing? He's back showing them how to

  375. live. He's giving them his laws again.

  376. He's saying don't do these things, do these things.

  377. You do these things. You live in the curse, you do

  378. these things, you live in my blessing.

  379. God is directing his people. This is a good covenant.

  380. You know, the, the word says that the law is good, God is

  381. good. He's wanting to lead his people.

  382. And so we see that through the Scripture.

  383. God makes promises to restore all things.

  384. I said that he made this declaration back in the garden,

  385. but all through the Scripture. We see that God is promising

  386. that things will be made right, right, that that the gospel is

  387. is coming, that Jesus is coming and he will set things right.

  388. There's this promise all through the Scripture.

  389. And God allows, you know, rebellion to go on for a certain

  390. time, but eventually judgement must come.

  391. Eventually judgement must come. And he does.

  392. You think about God flooding the earth and Sodom and Gomorrah.

  393. Eventually God judges. Why does God do that?

  394. Because God must clean things up right?

  395. The the the great flood is this picture of just washing it all

  396. away. What's he doing?

  397. He's cleaning up the mess, right?

  398. When fire comes down and in Sodom and Gomorrah, what is he

  399. doing? He's burning out all of the

  400. ungodliness. He's burning out all the

  401. unrighteousness. God has to clean up his mess.

  402. This is why judgement is coming. God will not allow

  403. unrighteousness and unholiness to continue on forever.

  404. God has set a date where He will deal with it and that is the

  405. end. Never again will there be

  406. rebellion. Never again will there be

  407. unrighteousness and sin and brokenness and all of this

  408. stuff. God's coming and He's going to

  409. clean it up. Jesus Himself taught this.

  410. Matthew 25 verse 31 if you want to turn there, Matthew 25 verse

    Matthew 25:31 Matthew 25:31

  411. 31, it says when the Son of Man comes in His glory and all His

  412. holy angels with him, then He will sit on the throne of His

  413. glory and all the nations will be gathered before Him and He

  414. will separate them one from another as a shepherd divides

  415. His sheep from His goats. So Jesus, you know this is

  416. talking about Jesus is sitting on this throne.

  417. Jesus is going to be doing the dividing.

  418. He will divide all of mankind. How will He know those that

  419. belong to Him? How is Jesus going to know who

  420. are the sheep and who are the goats?

  421. Romans 89 This is how he's going to know.

  422. Romans 8-9 But you who are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit,

  423. if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.

  424. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.

  425. Jesus is going to be looking for the Spirit of God, those that

  426. belong to him. The the Scripture says they are

  427. sealed by the Holy Spirit, not by your works, not because

  428. you're a good person, not because you've done all the

  429. right things. He's looking for himself.

  430. God's looking for himself in you.

  431. And that is the if he sees himself, if Jesus sees the Holy

  432. Spirit sealing you, he goes, come with me.

  433. You are, you belong to me. So it's the Spirit of God that

  434. that separates the sheep from the goats.

  435. That's the in the final judgement.

  436. That's what God's looking for. One group has the Spirit, they

  437. have become alive. Those that receive the Spirit of

  438. God become alive. The rest do not.

  439. They remain spiritually dead. I, I said that, you know, Adam

  440. and Eve became spiritually dead. They were they, they, they lost,

  441. you know, this connection with the Spirit of God.

  442. And so those that are alive again receive the Spirit of God.

  443. Those that don't remain spiritually dead.

  444. Every single one of us, every person put your hand up if you

  445. were born in this place. Yay, There we go.

  446. I'm just making sure we're all awake.

  447. We're all born, right? Every single one of us is a

  448. descendant of Adam and Eve. We were born in sin.

  449. Adam and Eve reproduced in after their own kind, and they were

  450. unrighteous. They were impure and they

  451. reproduced. And every single person that was

  452. born after Adam and Eve was born in sin, spiritually dead.

  453. This is what the Bible teaches. And I, this is how I know that

  454. that's true. Because like, I've got young

  455. kids and I don't need to teach them to lie, to steal, to, to

  456. hurt one another. You don't need to be taught how

  457. to be unrighteous. We just are.

  458. We're, we're trying to teach our kids how to be right.

  459. You know, you don't have to be a believer to realize that like,

  460. oh, I'm just, I'm just trying to help my kids to do the right

  461. thing. Yeah, because they're born into

  462. sin. There's something in them that's

  463. not right. I've been born into sin.

  464. They're spiritually dead. Most of us, like, don't want to

  465. sin, do we? Doesn't anyone in this room that

  466. just enjoys sinning and likes to sin?

  467. Of course not. We're not created for sin.

  468. We're created for a life of holiness and purity.

  469. God's made us for that. That's why it doesn't feel right

  470. to live outside of God's plan and purpose.

  471. So the final judgement, people will be giving an account of the

  472. sin that they've lived. Each one, like each one's

  473. lawlessness is going to be exposed in the final judgement.

  474. And, and the exposure of our sin and our unworthiness makes us

  475. worthy of death. It means that you, you don't

  476. deserve life. You've lived outside of God's

  477. plan in the same way that Adam and Eve stepped outside of God's

  478. will. Don't do that thing.

  479. We've all done that. We've all stepped outside.

  480. And so this is where we find ourselves.

  481. And if we have to stand before a holy God in that, there's no

  482. escaping. You can't come back into

  483. perfection. You can't just, God can't just

  484. go, oh, don't worry about it. Just come back in because God is

  485. perfect. His judgements are right.

  486. If you're coming back into the perfect place, you need to be

  487. perfect because nothing impure can come back in.

  488. And so we're worthy of death. If we stand before God without

  489. the Holy Spirit, without the saving grace of our Lord Jesus

  490. Christ, we're going to, we're worthy of death.

  491. That's, that's what's worthy. We're worthy of.

  492. We will receive that. That is our fate.

  493. Our fate is set. We'll be cut off permanently

  494. from God, the source of perfect light.

  495. We will remain spiritually dead forever and ever.

  496. This is the fate of every single person that's born after Adam

  497. and Eve that doesn't receive their their Savior, Jesus

  498. Christ. And so Jesus offers us the way

  499. to life. You know these words, I am the

  500. way, I am the truth. I am the life.

  501. These aren't just fancy words. That's the truth.

  502. Jesus is just saying I am the way to life.

  503. I am the truth, like no one comes to the Father but through

  504. me. I'm the only way to enter back

  505. into God's perfect plan. So Jesus died the death that you

  506. and I deserve. If we're over here, we deserve

  507. death. Jesus died a death on the cross,

  508. didn't he? Didn't he?

  509. Jesus died for us, right? Amen.

  510. Yes he did, and he died the the life, the the death that we

  511. deserved. He died so that we could have

  512. life. Jesus was born of God's Spirit,

  513. the virgin birth. Jesus was not born of the seed

  514. of Adam. Jesus was born of God's seed

  515. which made him perfect. Jesus was not born into sin like

  516. you and I Jesus was born perfect, holy and righteous.

  517. And Jesus went on in perfection as a man, God as a man, and

  518. lived a perfect sinless life untainted, still pure and so he

  519. was able to be raised back to life when he died when they put

  520. him to death or when he laid down his life willingly, he was

  521. able to be raised back to life again.

  522. Acts 224 Let me just read it here for time's sake.

  523. It says whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of

  524. death. Catch this because it was not

  525. possible that that he should be held by it, that a righteous and

  526. a holy God did not deserve death.

  527. You and I deserve death. That at the judgement we will

  528. receive death because we deserve it.

  529. Jesus, on the other hand, died and death couldn't hold him,

  530. couldn't keep him down, couldn't get a grasp on him.

  531. Why? Because he's sinless, Because

  532. he's perfect. He's like slipped through the

  533. hands of death, right? And he's raised again and God

  534. justly raises him from the grave because he didn't deserve to be

  535. there. This is the Lord that we serve

  536. Gods. He died for us.

  537. He laid down his life for you and I raised back to life.

  538. So we can choose to come to God now, now not wait like I'm

  539. preaching to the to the saved in this room.

  540. But we came to God. We gave our lives to him.

  541. Now we didn't wait until later. We died now with him, you know,

  542. we repent. We excuse me, we, we admit our

  543. sin and our lawless lawlessness. We we repent.

  544. It's like I come to God and I say, gosh, I deserve to die.

  545. That's repentance. He's like, Lord, I'm, I'm just

  546. living like I'm like, I'm just separated from you.

  547. I need to come back to you. Lord, forgive me, forgive me.

  548. Let me turn from that way. Let me turn again to your ways

  549. and follow you. Repentance following him,

  550. turning from lawlessness, turning to God's perfect law by

  551. accepting Jesus and His work on the cross.

  552. We believe that we died with Christ and that we're alive in

  553. him. Like I died with him on that

  554. cross, right? My life was put to death, that I

  555. was dead, spiritually dead already, and I died with him on

  556. the cross. And he rose again because death

  557. couldn't hold him. And now I get to be alive again

  558. by his Spirit and be with Christ and live with him forever.

  559. It's an amazing thing. The gospel is pretty cool.

  560. I feel it feels weird saying that the gospel is cool.

  561. The gospel is amazing. It's so cool.

  562. So this releases us from the need to be judged worthy of

  563. death at the final judgement in Christ with the Holy Spirit

  564. having repented from our sins, having saying, Lord, I died with

  565. you on that cross, I'm alive with you, releases you from

  566. being worthy of death because God's judgement has already been

  567. put on his Son. The debt has been fully paid.

  568. There's no debt to be paid anymore.

  569. Jesus paid the debt in full. How does that make you feel on

  570. the inside? To know that Jesus did that for

  571. you, that you could have good things, that you could live a

  572. righteous and holy life, that you could follow him again, that

  573. you could hear his voice, that you could be back in perfection

  574. listening to him and following him and asking him questions.

  575. Hey, Lord, what's that over there?

  576. That's a river. Go and jump in it.

  577. Like like you said, God wants it like for us to enjoy his

  578. creation Now, even now God was just the Holy Spirit speaks to

  579. you and you have fellowship with him and you look at the sunsets

  580. and you go, Lord, you're so beautiful like you, you you

  581. start to just connect with God and his creation on a way that

  582. you were spiritually dead to. It's very amazing.

  583. One Peter 3 verse 18, it says this for Christ also.

  584. He suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, just

  585. confirming the words that I've spoken that he might bring us to

  586. God being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the

  587. Spirit. We have been made alive in the

  588. spirit. When we receive the good news of

  589. the gospel as true, the Spirit of God enters us and we become

  590. alive. It's good to be alive.

  591. I like to be alive. I will never go back to being

  592. dead again. Once you taste life, you are

  593. never wanting to die again. Amen.

  594. This is why we want to follow Him.

  595. This is why I want to serve Him and do things His way because I

  596. don't want to. I don't want to be found living

  597. in death again. I want to be in life.

  598. I want to turn my life in His direction and do the things that

  599. He says are good and right. So the gospel ultimately is

  600. this. It's I said before, it's this

  601. fulfilment of Scripture that He's given us over and over

  602. again, but one that I really enjoy and love is, is Ezekiel 36

  603. might have read this for us recently, but Ezekiel 36 verse

    Ezekiel 36:25

  604. 25, it says this, I'll sprinkle think about, think about the

  605. gospel message here, right? I'll sprinkle clean water on you

  606. and you shall be clean from all your uncleanness and from all

  607. your idols. I will cleanse you.

  608. I will give you a new heart and a new spirit I will put within

  609. you, and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh, and

  610. I'll give you a heart of flesh, and I'll put my spirit within

  611. you. Listen to this.

  612. And I'll cause you to walk in my statutes and to be careful to

  613. obey my rules. Oh, that's just putting us under

  614. law again. No, it isn't.

  615. It's showing you the way of life.

  616. It's showing you if you follow my rules, if you obey my

  617. commands, you will do well. You will live, you will enjoy

  618. life. Life will be good.

  619. This is why we're not under law, but we're under grace.

  620. It's not a command just to do well.

  621. It's a, it's a, it's an invitation to life.

  622. Come and follow me. Jesus said that's the invitation

  623. to life. So salvation is the work of God.

  624. We read that God does a heart work in US.

  625. And so God has to do something in here in order for us to

  626. receive him as the king and, and know anything about the Kingdom

  627. of God because he's making us fit for his Kingdom.

  628. Salvation is preparing us for for the king and for the

  629. Kingdom. It's showing us who the king is

  630. and it's preparing us for the Kingdom that's coming, making us

  631. a fit for his Kingdom, the welcoming back into perfection.

  632. How does this become my reality? You guys know this.

  633. We've we've given our our life to the Lord.

  634. How do I receive Jesus? Romans 10/9 it says that if I

  635. confess with my mouth that the Lord Jesus and believe in my

  636. heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be

  637. saved. See how important it is to

  638. declare and believe that Jesus was raised from the dead?

  639. Because if you don't believe that, how Can you believe that

  640. you could be raised from the dead and that you could have

  641. life? If you don't believe that Jesus

  642. was raised from the dead, how do you think that?

  643. You're walking around and alive now, right?

  644. That's the only reason that we are alive because Jesus was

  645. raised from the dead and we are alive in him.

  646. So it's by faith, it's by faith, it's by confession, it's by a

  647. heart position. It's by we do confess it with

  648. our words. Can I say that the the Scripture

  649. says that what, what goes in on the heart comes out of the mouth

  650. when God does a heart work in you and that you receive the

  651. gospel, You know what happens? It comes out of your mouth.

  652. You can't help it comes out of your mouth.

  653. What's coming out of your mouth, guys, what's in your heart?

  654. This is a good, there's a good test for us.

  655. What's going on in here? So we we take a hold of it by

  656. Faith. Justin pointed me to, to what

  657. Billy Graham had to say about Faith.

  658. And I love her. I watched that I was there was

  659. tears in my eyes. He said that, you know, when you

  660. came into this place, you sat on that chair by Faith.

  661. You sat on it by Faith, who here grabbed the chair before they

  662. sat down and had a good look at it, made sure that it was

  663. strong, made sure that none of the screws had fallen out.

  664. None of us did that. I didn't see any of you do it.

  665. Did anyone do it? You sat on that chair just

  666. believing that that chair was going to hold you, right?

  667. I had, there was no question in my mind that as I sat down, that

  668. thing was going to catch me. If it didn't, I'll be like, Oh

  669. my gosh, what just happened? So faith is the same.

  670. Faith in Jesus is the same. It's just trusting that he is

  671. who he says he is and that he will do what he said He will do.

  672. You just, you believe it and you believe it in your heart.

  673. It's like it's a spiritual work, guys.

  674. It's not an intellectual understanding that like if I

  675. just understand enough of what Jesus said and who he is that

  676. then I'll get it and then I'll be able to trust him and follow

  677. him. No, we, we choose in our hearts

  678. to follow him and believe him for what he is, for who he is.

  679. And then from that point we get to live in the fullness of, of

  680. God. And he and he releases his

  681. spirit to us and, and he awakens us and he leads us and he guides

  682. us and he shapes us. We're being shaped into the

  683. image of God, and that's a partnership between man and God.

  684. I need to allow him to shape me. I need to follow him once again.

  685. And so when we've received Jesus as our Lord and Savior, I'm, I'm

  686. going to rap. I'm realizing that I need to

  687. hurry up. So when we receive the Lord as

  688. our Savior, our life looks very different.

  689. Why does our life look different?

  690. Well, because I was dead once and now I'm alive.

  691. There's a big difference between a corpse and someone that's

  692. walking around. If you can't tell the difference

  693. between a corpse and someone that's alive, I don't know what

  694. to say to you. Like go into a morgue and find

  695. some some living people, right? Like there is a huge difference

  696. between someone who is alive in the spirit of God and someone

  697. who is spiritually dead. And if they if if the world

  698. around you can't see it, something's wrong, right?

  699. If no one knows, that's for you to question what's going on in

  700. your heart here? Are you following him?

  701. Is he your king? Are you serving him?

  702. Are you following him? Are you allowing the word of God

  703. to wash over you and cleanse you and make you like him?

  704. Because if there should be some signs, signs of life when this,

  705. when I became alive in the spirit, there's now fruit in my

  706. life. Galatians 5 gives us a list of

  707. some of these spiritual fruits. But the fruit of the spirit is

  708. love, it's joy, it's peace, it's long-suffering, patience, it's

  709. kindness, it's goodness, it's faithfulness, it's gentleness,

  710. it's self-control. But the way that you live should

  711. show that the Spirit of God is a work in you.

  712. Now, I don't walk this out perfectly, don't ask my wife,

  713. but like you, just just trust me.

  714. I don't walk. I'm not always gentle, I'm not

  715. always kind, I'm not always faithful.

  716. And it's not about walking this out perfectly.

  717. It's about our relationship with Him.

  718. It's about turning to Him and following Him.

  719. Sometimes I slip back into my dead self.

  720. How do I get back out of that? I remind myself that I'm alive

  721. in Him, that I was dead and now I've become alive.

  722. I have to take every thought captive.

  723. I have to know what's going on inside me to make sure that I'm

  724. not being LED astray and allowing the thoughts of the

  725. enemy and thoughts from the past keep me dead.

  726. I'm going to put, I'm going to, I'm going to replace all of

  727. those things with the word of God that speaks life and

  728. wholeness and joy and peace. And I'm going to when, when you

  729. do that, when you replace the way that you think and the

  730. direction of your life, those fruits are just there.

  731. They just, they just happen right when I'm thinking about

  732. the Lord, like I said, when I'm looking at the sunset and

  733. thinking about the Lord and saying, you are so good.

  734. Do you know what I feel in here? Peace, joy.

  735. It's the fruit of the spirit, guys.

  736. The Spirit of of God is, is alive in us.

  737. But I have to remind myself regularly, Romans 66, I'm going

  738. to land somewhere around here. Romans 6/6.

  739. This is what Paul says in how we walk this out.

  740. He says. Likewise, you also reckon

  741. yourselves to be dead, indeed to sin, but alive to Christ Jesus

  742. our Lord. There's a that that that means

  743. that I have to do something. What do I have to do?

  744. I have to consider myself dead to sin and alive to him.

  745. There has to be an understanding that I have where I can move

  746. myself from, from dead works and feeling dead and responding in

  747. dead ways to no, I'm alive in him.

  748. He has made me alive. He died for me.

  749. He's risen again. I'm alive in Him.

  750. You pray that out, you speak those words.

  751. As soon as you start to speak words of life over yourself, you

  752. start to feel alive again. And we have to do that.

  753. There's a responsibility on us to make sure that we're stepping

  754. out in faith, taking a hold of His word by faith, you know,

  755. praying those words over ourselves, speaking those words

  756. over each other. Guys, like when someone's heavy

  757. and they come to you and they say and you say, how's your

  758. week? And, and they say pretty bad.

  759. What are you going to do? Are you just going to go, Oh,

  760. that sucks. Oh, today's a better day?

  761. Or are you going to speak words of life and say, wow, man, like,

  762. you know, I'm sorry, I'm sorry to hear that.

  763. I'm sorry that life's been hard this week.

  764. But gosh, I'm so glad that you're alive in him.

  765. Let's pray together. Lord, thank you that you know,

  766. like our old lives are behind us and although we experience

  767. hardship, that you are a God that has an inheritance for us.

  768. You have opened up doors for us to have peace and life and joy

  769. that you've put us in your Kingdom and made us a part of

  770. your plan. These words speak words of life.

  771. Wash with the water. Jesus says that he washes his

  772. bride with the water, right? That's what's happening in those

  773. times you're washing over his bride with with with water and

  774. it's not your word. It's not your water, it's his

  775. word, it's his water, but you could be a mouthpiece with for

  776. the word of God. He could use your vessel and the

  777. Spirit of God could flow in you and through you.

  778. We read we read that scripture this morning about you know all

  779. that are thirsty. Come to me and I'll give you

  780. drink. And Jesus later in the next

  781. verse, he talks about talking about the Spirit of God that you

  782. could drink from me and rivers of water could flow out of you.

  783. That's the Spirit of God. That's like the washing over one

  784. another and the washing over yourself.

  785. Let the Spirit of God wash. And when you speak the words of

  786. life over one another, the Spirit of God in you washes over

  787. the rivers flow out of your heart.

  788. We need to be a church that does that for each other.

  789. Amen. Excellent.

  790. So in landing, what sort of response does the gospel does

  791. this message of the gospel require from us?

  792. What are we going to do now? We're just going to go thank you

  793. Lord, and then just go home. I think we should praise him.

  794. I think we should lift up our voices and and praise the Lord.

  795. I don't know how we're going to do this.

  796. Can we? Bianca's right there.

  797. There we go. Bianca could lead us.

  798. Check it out. She's got the Spirit of God in

  799. her. Awesome, awesome.

  800. I think that a message about the gospel and coming alive and

  801. coming from death to life requires something of us,

  802. Thanksgiving and praise. Let's give the Lord some glory.

  803. Amen. Amen.

  804. So I don't know what she's going to do.

  805. You know what I'm going to hand over to Justin?

  806. Justin's going to pray. So, Father, we thank you for

  807. your gospel in this place. We thank you for the power of

  808. the gospel. This isn't a gospel about making

  809. bad people good. It's a gospel that makes dead

  810. people alive. And we thank you for this

  811. wonderful power that is found in the gospel.

  812. And we praise you in this place because we have been taken from

  813. death to life. We have been ripped out,

  814. snatched out of a Kingdom of darkness and bought into a

  815. Kingdom of light. We thank you for this incredible

  816. power that is found in the gospel, this resurrection power

  817. that takes dead people and makes them alive again.

  818. We've praised you for this power.

  819. We lift our voice and we lift our our words to you, our praise

  820. to you as we kicked off this meeting.

  821. We lift our song to you and offer you praise in this place

  822. for this wonderful, incredible, marvellous power that is found

  823. in the gospel in Jesus name. Thank you for joining us for

  824. today's message. For more information about The
