‘Once Saved, Is Always Saved, Our Future Sins Are Forgiven,’ Is This So? Part 2

They say, “Once saved is always saved; our future sins are forgiven.” Is this so?

If you have not yet listened to part one of this sermon, please do.

Suppose you do something so nasty to me now, and I am so hurt because of what you did against me. You are someone I love dearly, but you did this thing to me, to this person who loves you so much. But then, you come and apologise to me, and I can see that you are really sorry and regretful. I forgive you, because by forgiving you, I’m also obeying the Lord. But now, I’ve forgiven you, we’ve made peace, and we’re together, and things are fine between you and me again. Then, in five months’ time, you sin again, lie against me, steal from me, and you even kill someone; someone dear to me.’ What do you think is going to happen now? Do you think I would be so hurt again by what you just did, or do you think, because I forgave you before, what you did now doesn’t matter to me? Do you think that because I forgave your past sins against me, what you did now doesn’t hurt me? Do you think I’m just going to say, “No, since I forgave you before, the new sins you just committed now against me are cancelled because my forgiveness of before has cancelled all your future sins against me. So, you can hurt me as much as you want in the future; that will not count because I have already forgiven you in the past. I forgave you indeed, and I’ve forgotten all those things you did against me. So, whatever you’re doing now to hurt me doesn’t count because I’ve already forgiven your every future sin you will ever commit against me.”

Are you normal to even think that because I forgave you in the past, your future sins against me are also already forgiven?

But your new sins, you just committed, will remain if you never repent of them, because, when we truly are sorry about something, and once I forgive you of your sins, that means God will heal me from pain. But if I don’t forgive you, those sins will hurt me and open a wound in my heart and bring resentment and bitterness against you. However, you must repent of those sins in order for them to be wiped away by the Lord Jesus. Suppose you don’t apologise and turn from those new sins that you committed; you’re still guilty in God’s eyes of murder, you’re guilty of theft, of bearing false witness against your neighbour. Those three sins are deadly. You are breaking God’s Ten Commandments and the Lord Jesus’ Two Commandments. And by hurting me in such a way, you are hurting God. By sinning against me like that, you are sinning against God. And if you don’t repent of those sins, you’re still remaining guilty of those sins, despite the fact that I have forgiven you your past sins against me. Your future sins that you have not yet apologised for are still there. And as long as they are there, the Lord who died on the Cross for you will not wipe those sins away, and if you don’t repent of those sins, they are not forgiven by God.

As a human, I may try to forgive you for the sins you have not apologised to me for. This is so that the devil doesn’t put his foot to turn me into someone who holds a grudge. But the Lord Jesus doesn’t need to try to forgive you. He will forgive once you genuinely turn from those sins. If you expect that, once the Lord has forgiven you and blotted all your past sins out, He has automatically blotted out your future sins, then you commit those new sins, expecting you’ll still maintain your state of righteousness. But that is going against the words of the Lord.

Suppose you commit those new sins, and you die in those sins without repenting, you die believing that your future sins are forgiven by the Lord.

And by believing so, you have not actually repented of those new sins you committed. And, you die in your sins as an unrepentant man. Then, indeed, the Lord will destroy you.

When you don’t repent of your sins, those new sins remain.

So, let me place it this way,

Our past righteousness will not save us if we have let our present unrighteousness cancel that past righteousness.

2 Peter 2:20 says,

2 Peter 2:20

“And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before.”

So, this is another Bible verse that shows us that ‘once saved is not always saved,’ and that ‘our future sins are not forgiven’.

If our future sins are forgiven, and ‘one saved is always saved, as many believe, why then those, who know our Lord Jesus and are forgiven by Him and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, are worse off than before?

We should seek to understand the Scriptures. Many are teaching you that your future sins are forgiven and that once saved, you are always saved. This kind of teaching has deceived many, and even someone so close to me, because they have believed this lie. They have believed this false teaching. And by doing so, they have become relaxed in their sins; they have become comfortable in their sins. They live in sin, and when you rebuke them for their sins, they say to you, “You’re fussing over my sins when I’m already saved. You are fussing over my sins when my future sins are forgiven. You are fussing over my sins when the Lord Jesus died on the Cross for me and has taken my sins away, my past and future sins.” And yet, they are living in sin. Why? Is it really what the Scriptures say? No. But they have found that teaching more convenient for them. They have found a teaching that is allowing them to still do their own way,

to still remain lukewarm Christians, but at the same time thinking that they are saved and that even their future sins are forgiven. And that is a severe handicap.

Are they still in the Light of Christ when they are now living in the darkness and practising sins? Do you think our Lord is a robot who feels nothing? You come to Him after being living in sin for years, and out of His grace and mercy, He forgives you all those sins you’ve committed, and then says to you, “Go and sin no more.” Then you go and disregard what He said and sin again. And you think that the fact that He forgave you in the past also counts in the future? No. These are new sins you have committed; you’re in trouble again. You have returned to the darkness from where the Lord rescued you. You have returned to your kidnapper.

When the Lord went and paid for your ransom on the Cross, it was because the kidnapper had seized you, and had drowned you in the darkness. The Lord went there and rescued you, but if you return to your kidnapper, you cannot obviously think that now that you are with your kidnapper again, you are at the same time in the Light, you are at the same time with the Master, who saved you on the Cross. You cannot serve two masters. Those are the words of the Lord. You will either love one and hate the other. And if you’re still serving two masters, then you have not really made a choice. For Christ is enough, and He does not want to share you with His enemy. He does not want to share us with His enemy.

So, let’s reason together and do what is right in the Lord’s eyes. Let’s not depart from the Scriptures as the Lord taught. I mean, what good is hope for you if they are all false hopes? At the end of the day, you are stuck and lost with false hopes. So, don’t put in your mind that you are saved when you are still practising sin, when the Scriptures clearly say, “A new creation no longer practises sin.” So think about that carefully.

So, if you expect that somebody who hurt you should come at least to say sorry to you for you to make peace together, why do you expect that if you have sinned against the Lord, you won’t go to make peace with God by repenting of your sins, since God is not the problem here; it is always us? We are the ones turning away from Him, even if He has forgiven us. We are the ones sinning against Him, even if He died on the Cross for us. We are the ones who have the habit of departing from God. And for this, you should be the one to do what is right by turning away from your sins, and make things right with God. And once the Lord forgives you, He is forgiving you for those sins you have come to Him with from your past up to that time.

In fact, no one ever goes to God and prays, “Please forgive me for my future sins.” We’re always begging Him to forgive us for the sins we have committed, knowingly or unknowingly, up until now, since none of us knows the future.

And once He takes those sins away, if you’re wise, you don’t just go and practice sins again. We must work hard to maintain our salvation; it is written all over the Scriptures. We must work hard to remain in the faith, to remain in the Lord’s love.

Also, why would the Lord Jesus say to us to remain in His love? Because He knows that even somebody, while in His love, can depart from His Love. We can only remain in a place where we already are. The Lord would not say to us to remain in His love if we were not already in His love. So, He is speaking to those who are in His love to remain in His love. Because if we don’t remain in His love, we depart from that LOVE, and then the hatred and the darkness will invade us. And once people go and sin again in the darkness, some might not come back, not because they don’t want to, but because the demons have consumed them to the point that they have lost their own minds and no longer reason, because the demons have completely taken over them. So, once you are in the Light, who is Christ, seek to remain in the Light, and in the Lord’s love.

The Lord Jesus said in John 15:9-10,

John 15:9–10

“As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love.

When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in His love.”

I pray that you will listen to this. I pray that you will do what is right in God’s eyes. And watch out, for the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking for someone to devour. Many are walking, and are laughing and even claiming to be having fun, but the devil has devoured them.

False teachings are the devil’s bait that hook you and catch you for his darkness.

May the Lord’s peace be with you.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for this teaching. Thank You for Your mercy, Your love and Your peace, Your joy and Your light and Your salvation. You are the Lord of lords; You are the King of kings, You are the Alpha, and You are the Omega. You are the Beginning and You are the End.

We bless You, and we love You, my God.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your continuous grace and Your willingness to forgive us our sins. Oh, Lord, I hate it when we take You for granted; when we take Your grace for granted. I’m so sorry about that. And I pray that those who claim to love You will wake up, those who believe in You will wake up at least, and ensure that they are indeed in You, not just say that they love You with their lips but their hearts are far from You. I pray that believers will not take Your grace for granted anymore, that they will not take You for granted.

Thank You so much, Lord God, for Your forgiveness. Thank You for Your marvellous kindness, Lord. And Your healing and deliverance from evil.

I love You, Lord God. Thank You for loving us, for dying on the Cross for us, Lord. I just pray that many will come to You and welcome that salvation, so that You can give them. Unless they welcome it, they don’t have it. Unless they take those sins to You, those sins remain.

Thank You that You are our hope, the only hope of salvation, the only hope to see the Father God Almighty, the only hope to be one day in heaven. You are our only Hope, Lord. Thank You so much that You came for us.

Oh, Lord, I bless You forever. Thank You so much, my God.
