I have the privilege to lead you in communion.
-
Some amazing truths happen when we accept the gift of Jesus dying on the cross.
-
One, we're adopted into God's family.
-
Thank you so much.
-
We are declared royal children of the King of Kings.
-
And secondly, we are, since we are a family, we're united with Jesus in his death.
-
Since we are united with Jesus, it's another powerful truth that comes from 2 Corinthians 5.14.
-
Since that we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe we have also died to our old life.
-
Even my little puny brain can sort of make some sort of sense out of this.
-
Because I'm united to him.
-
Once Jesus died, then I'm somehow connected to dying for myself, to myself.
-
Also being united to Jesus, we are made right with him.
-
It's in 1 Corinthians 1.30.
-
Being united to Jesus, we receive a new life.
-
It says in 2 Corinthians 5 15.
-
Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
-
In belonging to God, we become a new person.
-
I've never seen this before, but there's a powerful statement in 2 Corinthians 6 7 that says, We use the weapon of righteousness in the right hand for attack and in the left hand for defense.
-
This is our combat pose with the evil one.
-
Attack is where we declare the truths about God and our truths about our relationship with God.
-
And defense is where we reject the lies of the evil one.
-
I'll give you one example.
-
I'm not doing a sermon, so I'll slow down.
-
In attack, I am no longer a slave to cry slave to he to sin.
-
I am a slave to righteousness.
-
It's my attack pose.
-
And in defense, one example would be the lie that the evil one likes to throw at us so many times.
-
I'm not good enough for God.
-
My defense, I am right with God.
-
I am precious to God.
-
God died for me.
-
As we take the bread and the wine, let us realize that we are in combat mode.
-
There is truths over our lives that we should affirm regularly.
-
And we should reject every time he plants thoughts or lies against our destiny.
-
So let's take the bread and wine.
-
Let's rejoice in Jesus' name.
