  2. Ministry, podcast. Each sermon on this podcast is

  3. from our 11 a.m. Sunday service.

  4. We are glad that you have joined us digitally, but would love to

  5. see you in person on Sunday mornings at either 9 a.m. or 11

  6. a.m. Now, let's open God's word and

  7. ask him to reveal his truths for our lives.

  8. If you would turn your Bibles to First Peter chapter 4, I will be

    1 Peter 4 chapter mention

  9. looking today at a message entitled suffering.

  10. What? No one wants and everyone needs

  11. And as you're turning. And I want I want to kind of set

  12. the set the tone for us today and set our minds in the right

  13. place in our world today. Is it true that the greatest

  14. commodity seems to be comfort? You don't like your shirt, so

  15. you go, buy a comfort color shirt.

  16. You, you don't like your chairs, it's not comfortable enough.

  17. So you go get a different share. Some of you just came from

  18. enrich next door and you're thankful to be in more

  19. comfortable chairs. But all we wants Comfort, right?

  20. And will do whatever it takes to be comfortable.

  21. We want a different pair of shoes because our old, pair of

  22. shoes aren't comfortable enough. And at every point we seem to

  23. strive for Comfort, we think that comfortable and easy means

  24. best. If it's easy, I like it, it's

  25. comfortable. I'm for it yet.

  26. This Idea doesn't really fit the New Testament Church.

  27. We, we so often in error, we want to get to heaven with no

  28. scars. We want to get to heaven with no

  29. suffering here on this earth and the easiest road we can to get

  30. to heaven and then I'll be good. We want as you've heard, it said

  31. we want a crown with no cross. This couldn't be the farthest

  32. thing from the New Testament Church.

  33. Paul the Apostle writes in 2nd Corinthians, chapter 4 verse 8.

  34. He said that Persecuted perplexed, we're struck down and

  35. we're bearing in our body. The death of Christ later in the

  36. same book, he writes in chapter 11 of second Corinthians.

  37. In verse 24, he says five times I received from the Jews to 40

  38. Lashes. Minus one, three times.

  39. I was beaten with rods. Once I was pelted with stones

  40. three times. I was Shipwrecked, I spent a

  41. night and a day in the open sea. I've been constantly on the

  42. Move, have been in danger from rivers, and danger from bandits

  43. in danger, from my fellow Jews in danger, from Gentiles and

  44. danger in the city. Danger in the country in danger

  45. at Sea. And in danger from false

  46. Believers, I have labored and toiled and have often Gone

  47. without sleep. I've known hunger and thirst,

  48. and have often Gone without food.

  49. I've been cold and naked, he says to Timothy.

  50. And second Timothy 3:12 that if anyone wants to live a Godly

    2 Timothy 3:12

  51. life in Christ Jesus, they will be persecuted.

  52. This sound comfortable? It sound like an easy life.

  53. Oh, Paul is not enough for us and Peter.

  54. It is the moment, the Lord Jesus himself in.

  55. John 16:33 said, in this world, you will have trouble.

    John 16:33

  56. And so we must ask. Why has the church bought the

  57. LIE of living a comfortable, life living the High Life

  58. chasing Comfort at all. Cause why is this crept into the

  59. church? Because suffering is going to

  60. look at it. Is truly what?

  61. No one wants and truly what everyone needs.

  62. Let's look at First Peter for together and just to give you a

  63. little background on the book of First Peter, he is writing to

  64. scattered Believers and a common theme is persecution and

  65. suffering. In this book, in fact, in the

  66. Five Short chapters in this book, Peter uses the word suffer

  67. 17 times and uses it for in the few verses, we're going to look

  68. at Okay, so the theme in First Peter is very clear, there's a

  69. lot about suffering. What's it mean?

  70. Let's look at it. Verse 12, the First Peter

    1 Peter 4 chapter mention

  71. chapter 4 if you will He says dear friends do not be surprised

  72. at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you as

  73. though something strange were happening to you.

  74. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of

  75. Christ. So that you may be overjoyed.

  76. When his glory is revealed, if you are insulted because of the

  77. name of Christ, you are blessed for the spirit of glory and of

  78. God, rests on you. Verse 15.

  79. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief, or any

  80. other kind of criminal or even as a meddler.

  81. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed.

  82. But praise God, that you bear that name for it is time for

  83. judgment to begin with God's household.

  84. And if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those

  85. who do not obey the gospel of God?

  86. And if it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will

  87. become of the ungodly and The Sinner?

  88. So then those who suffer according to God's will should

  89. commit It themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to

  90. do good. And so, there's a few things we

  91. want to look at here and verse from this text, we see that

  92. suffering is certain. We see that suffering is certain

  93. looking verse 12, He begins verse 12 by saying dear friends

  94. and this is the same word as we get another plate beloved.

  95. It's the exact same word that God.

  96. The Father speaks about Jesus Christ at his baptism, is this

  97. is my beloved Son in whom I'm well pleased, you have a loving

  98. reminder right off the bat from Peter right here.

  99. He wants his people to not be surprised at the fiery ordeal

  100. that's coming on you and he's going to tell them the truth in

  101. perfect love. And I want you to think about

  102. this and our day and time, no one wants to hear the truth

  103. because they don't think it's very loving.

  104. The most loving thing you can do for someone is tell them the

  105. truth. Peter gives them a loving or

  106. minor dear friends. I love you so much to not let

  107. you be ill-informed to not let you be caught off guard at

  108. what's coming to not be unbeknown of the suffering.

  109. That's about to come upon all of you and he calls it, his fiery

  110. ordeal. This is true.

  111. Pastoral love. You know when someone loves you,

  112. if they tell you the truth, if they're not afraid to maybe

  113. scare you. If there are not afraid to make

  114. me hurt your feelings, but he cared for them deeply and he

  115. wants them to not be surprised. He calls them beloved, he calls

  116. them, dear friends, Your friends suffering a certain suffering a

  117. certain so, so be ready. There is a test coming.

  118. He says don't be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come

  119. to test. You don't be, don't be shocked

  120. by, it's coming. It's guaranteed.

  121. We know it's certain There is this fiery ordeal, he calls it a

  122. test. Now, the test is not for God to

  123. know if their faith is real. So when you go through a test of

  124. faith, it's not for God to know him.

  125. And I wonder if they're going to actually trust me, is that

  126. foolish? Because God knows all things,

  127. right? It's not that God is going to

  128. sit back there and say, man, I really hope they passed this

  129. test. The test is for you.

  130. The test is for you to be refined in your faith to grow as

  131. we sing in your faith. And to really for you to know

  132. for certain is my faith genuine, because when it's tested, and

  133. you'll know said, is the refining by Fire.

  134. This guaranteed test is not an odd test, it's not a strange

  135. test but it's a it's a certain test suffering is certain.

  136. If you're in Christ, suffering is part of your Christian Duty.

  137. It's what you do. Now this debunks just as one

  138. verse the whole Prosperity Gospel, doesn't it?

  139. They god with the blessed with health wealth and prosperity on

  140. this life. All you need to do is just name

  141. it and claim it in Jesus name. Amen.

  142. And it's yours. That's not.

  143. That is not at all. What Paul taught.

  144. That's not at all. What?

  145. Jesus taught. That's not at all.

  146. What? Peter taught that's not at all

  147. what the Bible teaches. If you're following someone like

  148. that or if you're like to listen to someone like that, stop their

  149. leading, you and others to hell. And so Peter.

  150. Guys don't think that you're just going to live a

  151. comfortable. Easy life will be surprised.

  152. Although so far in the history of the church, the church has

  153. been somewhat tolerated. There's been scattered

  154. persecution here and there but there has been no widespread

  155. from the emperor. We're killing the Christians

  156. were persecuting. The Christians Christianity has

  157. not been officially. Outlawed said, you guys have

  158. been tolerated living somewhat comfortable for a little bit of

  159. time? Don't be shocked. when it comes

  160. when we can be shocked, when your world flips upside down,

  161. And persecution was coming on them.

  162. Persecuted persecution is coming on us.

  163. Suffering is coming for us. American Church, don't be

  164. shocked. When persecution comes don't but

  165. don't be surprised when the fiery fiery ordeal comes as

  166. there. Something strange were happening

  167. to you know this it's nothing random.

  168. It is not a random happening is not God.

  169. Sitting back looking and man. Oh man, I can't control this.

  170. I have no control over the situation helpless.

  171. This is not a random situation. This test is for you is test is

  172. not happening. Going by any chance or any

  173. Randomness instead? God is Sovereign over all that,

  174. we believe that God is Sovereign period.

  175. You had any clause or any extra stuff to the end of that phrase,

  176. God is no longer Sovereign. God is Sovereign over all this

  177. includes suffering, this includes persecution.

  178. He's a man that's kind of harsh. I would love some chapter.

  179. Maybe some verses to prove that to me.

  180. I'll give you a whole book, 42 chapters job.

  181. Go read it. Look at that.

  182. Guy was God's Sovereign over job suffering.

  183. Was he not only Sovereign over suffering.

  184. He was Sovereign over Satan himself.

  185. Sane only does what God allows him to do.

  186. He answers to God, everything in creation, answers to the

  187. Creator. Your suffering.

  188. Is not random your suffering is purposeful and we can rest in

  189. the fact that God is Sovereign over our suffering.

  190. And even our persecution can't we if you can't rest in that

  191. menu to check your heart. So we see suffering a certain

  192. very clear, verse 12 or 13 and 14.

  193. We see the suffering brings christlikeness.

  194. Look at that. But rejoice in as much as you

  195. participate in the sufferings of Christ, you bring it brings

  196. christlikeness because you joined with Christ and

  197. suffering. Did Christ that did Christ

  198. suffer unjustly. Yes, the only perfect one.

  199. The righteous Son of God. Died at the hands of sinful men.

  200. He died. A brutal death, a criminal's

  201. death, a murder is death and revolutionaries death.

  202. He died. A death.

  203. That should not have been his. He was led like a sheep to the

  204. slaughter. Yet, he did not even open his

  205. mouth. Unjust suffering.

  206. But we join with Christ and suffering.

  207. We are participating in that and we rejoice in that because we

  208. could to be like Christ Jesus. Hebrews 12 verse 2, it says it

    Hebrews 12:2

  209. for the joy set before him endured the cross.

  210. For the joy. He was joyous.

  211. Is obedience to the father's will in being crushed for our

  212. sins. What do they ask about your own

  213. life? James 1:2, says to count it all

    James 1:2

  214. or consider it pure joy. When You Face Trials of many

  215. kinds do that Do you do you count it?

  216. Joy, when the worst thing imaginable happens to your life,

  217. when everything falls through. Can you count that Joy because

  218. you're actually joining with Christ and suffering.

  219. Oh, so often man, oui oui mon. We complain.

  220. We don't as Paul says in Philippians, 4:4 it to rejoice

  221. in the lord always. And just in case you missed it

  222. the first time he says, again, I say rejoice, you know where he

  223. wrote that In a prison, he wrote that in a prison.

  224. So if suffering he was counting it all joy in the trial that he

  225. was going through. But here's the thing, if you

  226. love The World's comfort, You're not going to rejoice in the

  227. suffering for Christ. You're going to be upset.

  228. You're going to complain. The, you didn't get your way you

  229. to complain that your life is falling apart.

  230. You don't know what to do. Because you love the things of

  231. this world. And not Christ.

  232. First John says, you're not love the world or anything of the

  233. world, you love the world, the love of the father is truly not

  234. in you love Christ, are you love the world?

  235. If you love Christ, you'll Rejoice.

  236. But now you're wondering, why do I rejoice in suffering?

  237. It seems all bad, doesn't it? Everything is crashing down, but

  238. life is falling apart. You rejoice and suffering number

  239. one, because you're participating in Christ.

  240. As we've already said you share in his suffering.

  241. Any Christians want to be like Jesus?

  242. We're Christians right? Where we are Christ's ones.

  243. You want to be like Jesus, be willing to suffer.

  244. Jesus said John 15 20 It's the world hates you keep in mind it

  245. hated me. First, we were to be like

  246. Christ. We are to suffer like Christ the

  247. beginning of this chapter in First Peter, chapter 4 verse 1.

    1 Peter 4:1

  248. He says therefore since Christ suffered in his body arm

  249. yourselves with the same attitude Because whoever suffers

  250. in the body is done with sin as a result as a result of your

  251. same attitude of suffering with Christ, you do not live the rest

  252. of your Earthly lives for human desires.

  253. But rather for the will of God, you want to just break your own

  254. will realize this, that, hey, when I suffer, I'm living God's

  255. will. And I don't want my well, I want

  256. God's will because his will is always good.

  257. Even in the midst of the most trying times of life God's will

  258. is better than yours and mine. UE rejoice in suffering because

  259. as you participate in Christ's suffering, and you also will be

  260. greatly rewarded. Look at the end of verse 13

  261. there in First Peter He says you participate in the sufferings of

  262. Christ so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is

  263. revealed. Romans 8 says it like this verse

  264. 18, our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the

  265. glory that will be revealed with us.

  266. Second Corinthians 4:17, another verse just to stick with the

    2 Corinthians 4:17

  267. theme of suffering that is so clear and all the scripture, he

  268. says, our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an

  269. eternal glory that far, outweighs them all.

  270. It's so easy in the trying times to think, man, this is as bad as

  271. it gets and I'm focused on this and man.

  272. Oh, this is awful and whine and complain and bellyache, but we

  273. need to rejoice in suffering. Because we know that it's light

  274. and it's momentary, and it's achieving for us an eternal

  275. glory. That will far outweigh the mall.

  276. And let me tell you this, your sufferings are not meaningless,

  277. they're not for nothing. They are purposeful and they are

  278. for an eternal reward that you will have if you rejoice in your

  279. suffering here on this Earth. Suffering is what we need.

  280. It makes us long for heaven as well, doesn't it?

  281. He's ever had an ailment sickness.

  282. Maybe a family member passes away.

  283. Anything that goes wrong in our life, should make us long for

  284. heaven. The place where suffering is

  285. done away with the price of, There's No More Tears.

  286. There is no more pain. There's no more suffering.

  287. We look forward to that and when that day does come we are

  288. Overjoyed when the Lord's glory is revealed or we won't be able

  289. to contain our jewelry when we meet the Lord, because we

  290. suffered on this earth. And the glory that is revealed

  291. in heaven, far outweighs the bad that we Face here on the in this

  292. world. Suffering brings Christ's

  293. likeness and joining with Christ, brings christlikeness

  294. and growing in Christ. So I wanted to be very clear.

  295. That suffering is necessary for Christian growth.

  296. You've never suffered You're probably not a mature Christian.

  297. First Peter chapter 1 verse 6, it builds on.

    1 Peter 1:6

  298. Again this this whole topic verse 6 and all this you greatly

  299. Rejoice, there it is again though.

  300. Now, for a little while, you may have had to suffer grief and all

  301. kinds of Trials. These have come so that the

  302. proven genuineness of your faith of Greater worth than gold,

  303. which perishes, even though refined by fire may result in

  304. Praise Glory and Honor. When Jesus Christ is revealed,

  305. when the suffering in the Trials, come in your life.

  306. It is to grow you and to strengthen your faith as with

  307. fire, just as his fiery ordeal was about to come on.

  308. The early church, the fiery ordeal that comes in your life

  309. is to refine you and so you can grow in Christ, perseverance

  310. come, Comes from suffering and perseverance is necessary.

  311. And a true sign of a child of God, a child of God, will

  312. persevere all the way until the end y because suffering has

  313. brought forth perseverance. Listen to this and James 1:2, we

    James 1:2

  314. know, consider it pure joy. Whenever you face Trials of many

  315. kinds after this, he says because you know, that the

  316. testing of your faith produces perseverance, let perseverance

  317. finish its work. So that you may be mature and

  318. complete not lacking anything. Why?

  319. Because trials have come tend to the trial.

  320. You've learned perseverance and to the perseverance you have

  321. gained maturity and completeness.

  322. In Christ, you want to be a mature.

  323. Christian going to be a complete Christian be willing to suffer

  324. for Christ. No other way around it again.

  325. Paul says, in Romans five verse 3, we also glory in our

  326. sufferings because we know that suffering, produces

  327. perseverance, perseverance character and character.

  328. Hope you show me a beat and Christian you show me a marred

  329. Christian, you show me a brought down Christian, I will show you

  330. a mature Christian. When you show me a Christian who

  331. is high and mighty and never suffered anything in their life,

  332. and I'll show you someone whose faith is weak.

  333. And I'll show you someone who does not have the privilege of

  334. participating in the sufferings of suffering of Christ.

  335. You grow in Christ in the hard times.

  336. The easy times, it's easy to love God, it's easy to

  337. persevere. You're not persevering for

  338. anything, just walking through life in the hard times, you

  339. strength in the Lord grows. Just like a bodybuilder or a

  340. workout person. I don't see any gains by just

  341. doing 5 push-ups everyday. A magnet five, push-ups.

  342. Anyway, there's something easy, not test their self, not push

  343. their selves, but a person who seems true gains, is someone who

  344. brings their body to the point of breaking so that it builds up

  345. stronger, that's what trials are for the Christian, that's what

  346. suffering does. We grow in Christ and suffering?

  347. And finally we are being blessed by Christ in suffering.

  348. Now, wait a minute a blessing of Christ.

  349. If I were to survey the church and I would have you all write

  350. down one thing that God has blessed you with.

  351. I can guarantee you not one of you would write suffering

  352. because we don't think like that but God does.

  353. This is the mind of God. Look at verse 14.

  354. He says, if you are insulted because of the name of Christ

  355. you are blessed. The spirit of glory and of God

  356. rests on you, God calls. You blessed when you suffer, you

  357. say o. Woe is me, ma'am.

  358. My life is falling apart. God calls, you blessed.

  359. Jesus said this in Matthew 5, verse 10 blessed, are those, who

    Matthew 5:10

  360. are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the

  361. kingdom blessed. Are you?

  362. When people insult, you persecute you and falsely say,

  363. all kinds of evil against you because of me rejoice and be

  364. glad because great is your reward in heaven.

  365. You're blessed by Christ and suffer.

  366. You are blessed so much the word blessed here you see in all

  367. Beatitude blessed are blessed are blessed our if it's even

  368. there blessed are those who are persecuted Peter uses the same

  369. exact word and it means ultimate.

  370. Spiritual fulfillment. It could mean happiness for even

  371. the deeper meaning is to be spiritually fulfilled.

  372. Blessed are the persecuted spiritually fulfilled.

  373. Are you when people insult, you and say all kinds of things

  374. about you, this is opposite. I don't feel blessed.

  375. I feel like everything is not going very blessed.

  376. Well say to you let God be true and every man a liar because

  377. that's the truth, I call you blessed, see the high honor of

  378. suffering that it truly is. When you suffer you have God's

  379. approval in favor on your life. It's what suffering is so being

  380. blessed, is it possible said it like this accept her father?

  381. They were beginning to be persecuted.

  382. They were thrown in jail, they were beaten and they were left

  383. free. And this, they said next 541,

  384. they rejoiced because they were counted worthy to suffer for the

  385. name. That is a backwards thinking

  386. today, isn't it? They rejoiced because they were

  387. counted worthy for suffering for the name.

  388. They got to be persecuted, they got to be beaten for Christ.

  389. Don't want to do anything for Christ, what's left.

  390. If it harms us. Rodger Raymer said it right

  391. about this topic. He said that suffering is not a

  392. punishment, but it's a privilege.

  393. It's a great privilege. I pray that we would share in

  394. the privilege, I probably would share in the blessings of Christ

  395. to suffer one side. Alongside one another one day,

  396. It's a high honor to suffer for Christ.

  397. He didn't just leave his hopeless.

  398. If we receive help in the trial, he says, the spirit of Glory

  399. rests, on you, the spirit of Glory, he's borrowing from the

  400. Old Testament, he's but he's talking about the Shekinah

  401. Glory, that would have filled the temple or filled the

  402. Tabernacle of God's presence. And the Glorious thing about

  403. that is we don't have to go to the temple or Tabernacle.

  404. We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit and God's glory resides

  405. in us through his Holy Spirit. And so, his Spirit rests on us,

  406. we receive help in the midst of a trial from what Jesus calls in

  407. John, 14:16, The Advocate or the counselor, or the comforter, the

  408. Blessed Holy Spirit, who is now in us, giving us his help and it

  409. rests on us and it never leaves it never goes away.

  410. That's why you can stand firm in a trial.

  411. That's why you can receive help and the trial because the helper

  412. is in you and working in you You receive help in the trial you

  413. receive rest in the trowel, don't you remember last week

  414. John? 14:27.

  415. Jesus said do not let your hearts be troubled.

  416. My peace I give you. And I'll give us the world

  417. gifts. You can have the peace of God in

  418. a trial. And suffering and persecution.

  419. What does this look like? Practically?

  420. I'll tell you this. If you do any study on the early

  421. church and any Martyrs all throughout the history of the

  422. church. You see the most the time doing

  423. one thing. When they're either tied to the

  424. stake when they're crucified being nailed to the cross.

  425. They would sing praises Psalms and hymns to God you talk about

  426. rejoicing in the midst of trial. They are being burned alive and

  427. they are praising God for his goodness and his blessing upon

  428. their life that they get to suffer for him.

  429. Oh Peter, didn't he didn't he really live this out.

  430. Oh, you're not going to crucify Me by like my Lord you crucify

  431. me upside down and I'll rejoice in my sufferings.

  432. I'll Rejoice at this fiery trial that's coming on me.

  433. He addressed in the trial you have rest in the trial. finally,

  434. even receive Insurance in the trial you receive and Assurance

  435. in the trial because of Christ, because of what he's working in

  436. your life, how when you get to the end of the suffering,

  437. Whatever you're going through and you say Christ brought me

  438. through, aren't you? Sure of him.

  439. You can note because your faith has grown sure and certain not

  440. in you. Not in how you handled the

  441. situation, but how God just brought me through it.

  442. And God showed himself faithful and true and good through all of

  443. this. And so, I can be sure of the

  444. fact that I'm his, because if I wasn't his, there's no way I'd

  445. make it through this. Try that, at the end of your

  446. life, there's no way I can be standing before you clean Lord

  447. other than Christ, you brought me through the suffering of this

  448. life. In my insurance is only in you

  449. man, we learned that on this side of heaven, we will be

  450. Blessed. Suffering brings christlikeness.

  451. I pray, we even pray for suffering.

  452. We could be more christ-like, thirdly.

  453. Suffering will convict. And I wanted to take the next

  454. few verses I want us to ask for questions and this is a good

  455. principle to ask when you're going through a suffering and

  456. trying time has these four questions?

  457. The first, why am I suffering verse 15?

  458. He says this if you suffer it should not be as a murderer or

  459. thief or any other kind of criminal or even a meddler.

  460. You're suffering for sin and suffering for wrongdoing.

  461. A meddler. This was a someone who probably

  462. sparked a revolution or spoke against the evil regime of the

  463. government. The government had the right to

  464. bear the sword, didn't they? And then suffered just lie

  465. because they spoke or did something against the

  466. government. He says, are you suffering?

  467. Because you're doing these simple things?

  468. If you're suffering because of sin, that's deserve it.

  469. You do the crime, you deserve you deserve the time and the

  470. punishment. So, why are you suffering

  471. suffering as a Christian is not just a cop-out or a trump card

  472. to behave? However, you want and say

  473. whatever you want, whatever you want to whoever you want.

  474. However you want to say it because if they speak against

  475. me, they're really speaking to me, it's Christ.

  476. Yeah, but you were, you were so rude.

  477. You were hateful. You were mean, downright mean.

  478. That's, that's sinful Behavior. You're suffering because of that

  479. are speaking ill against you because of something you did

  480. sinful, that's not true biblical suffering.

  481. Don't get it twisted here, just because any wrong comes on.

  482. You, it's not persecution or suffering because of Christ, it

  483. could be real suffering. The cop that pulled you over for

  484. going 75 and a 55 and wrote you a ticket is not persecuting you.

  485. For being a Christian. He's giving you a ticket for

  486. speeding. There's a difference.

  487. So why am I suffering the reason for my suffering?

  488. Secondly, how am I suffering? It says in verse 16, however, if

  489. you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed.

  490. But praise God, that you bear that name, praise God, that I

  491. bear the name of Christ and get to suffer for him.

  492. And what's wonderful is the word for praise here?

  493. The same root word there is that the same route where we get the

  494. word doxology here. The first song We Sing every

  495. Sunday is praise God, from whom all blessings flow, the

  496. doxology. And so when you go through

  497. trials, Praise. Doxology, the god.

  498. How do I praise God in a trial? That seems so hard and backwards

  499. Calvin said it, right? He said this talking about this

  500. very idea. But one that Praises God, they

  501. feel their guilt is blotted out and abolished before.

  502. God, and on this behalf, then they have reason to praise God.

  503. He speaks of nothing of circumstance.

  504. He speaks his only of the fact that our sins are blotted out

  505. there. For we have reason to praise

  506. God, you've got reason to praise God, even if it's the worst time

  507. of your life, because why? Because Jesus died for me and my

  508. sins are taken away my biggest. Problem is gone, my sins are

  509. gone. My guilt is taken away.

  510. I have eternal life in Christ therefore why should I moan and

  511. gripe and complain? I'm gonna praise God.

  512. That's the big picture here. The big picture is your sins are

  513. gone and that's never going to be taken away.

  514. So therefore I'm going to praise God, no matter what, no matter

  515. what he takes away. Job said it Lord gives or takes

  516. away. Nevertheless blessed be the name

  517. of the Lord. What an attitude I pray, we'd

  518. have that the psalmist had this attitude in suffering.

  519. So I'm 1 1967. He says, before I was afflicted,

  520. I went astray but now I obey your word after being Afflicted

  521. verse 71. He said it was good for me to be

  522. afflicted, so that I might learn your decrees you ever said, it's

  523. good to be inflicted. That's what the psalmist said.

  524. So my learn the decrees, the word of God.

  525. You don't do that without suffering.

  526. How are you suffering? Do you see it as a badge of high

  527. honor? The God has given you that you

  528. get to suffer for Christ? You see, like the apostles, an

  529. ax. Rejoice, because they were found

  530. worthy to suffer for the name. Also, Paul in Philippians 1:29,

    Philippians 1:29

  531. he said it has been granted to you.

  532. It's been given a gift of God that you behalf of Christ.

  533. Not only to believe in him but also to suffer for him.

  534. Oh, will agree with a man faith in God is a gift.

  535. We can only have faith in God as if he gives it to us.

  536. Oh, Paul says, you believe in God because God has granted you

  537. the faith to believe. He's also granted you.

  538. The gift of suffering for him. See the gift that it is, how are

  539. you suffering? You're suffering with that in

  540. mind. Are you suffering ashamedly?

  541. Don't be ashamed. When Peter uses the term

  542. Christian. This was a derogatory term of

  543. the day, they were the lowest, they were the scum of the earth.

  544. Those Christians that Jewish sect Christians, you suffer for

  545. the name of Christ, don't be ashamed where the name of Christ

  546. proudly and boldly Never Back Down.

  547. Never be ashamed. Even in the suffering.

  548. Oh when the world comes in, the enemy comes, why are you even

  549. hope? Why are you holding on in the

  550. storm? When Jobs wife says Curse God

  551. and die. Don't be ashamed.

  552. Wear the badge With Honor. Third question, will I suffer

  553. eternally? Is this going to be what's going

  554. to happen to me forever or 17? Says, for it's time for judgment

  555. and he says, judgment here. It's not talking about

  556. condemnation, but to refine the church as he's talking about

  557. first time for judgment to begin with God's household.

  558. And if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those

  559. who do not obey the gospel of God?

  560. He's using an argument from the Lesser to the greater here,

  561. saying, if even the children of God suffer, how much more will

  562. the ungodly? He says, in verse 18, if it's

  563. hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the

  564. ungodly in the center? If he Even us who are in Christ

  565. suffer in this life, man. How bad will it be for eternity

  566. for the ungodly who those who do not obey the gospel of Christ.

  567. The answer is very bad worse than we could ever imagine.

  568. Will you suffer for eternity? He's going to happen to me, I'll

  569. tell you this. Jesus teaches the parable of the

  570. soils, Matthew Chapter 13. And there was four four types of

    Matthew 13 chapter mention

  571. soils, one of those types of soils, when trouble or

  572. persecution came because of the word, they quickly fell away.

  573. If you give up during trials and persecution when tough get

  574. things, get tough, you're not, you're not saved.

  575. And persecution is such a blessing because this, you know,

  576. who's on your team, you want to separate the unbelievers from

  577. the non-believers you want to have judgment begin with the

  578. house of God persecution comes and the false believers.

  579. They fall away and they leave because they were never truly

  580. Believers at all. The real Believers know they

  581. persevere to the end because they see trials.

  582. I counted as Joy. My suffering is joy that this

  583. that my present suffering is not worth comparing with the glory.

  584. That is to be revealed. This is good.

  585. Good. I get to do this for Christ, the

  586. non-believer says no, I'm worried about me.

  587. Worry about my job or about my status and worried about my

  588. family. The believer says Kill them all.

  589. You can't take Christ kill me. You can't take Christ.

  590. Take everything I have. You can't take Christ.

  591. So willing to suffer for Christ. If you're not, you're going to

  592. suffer for all eternity. If that's you, if you're not in

  593. Christ, you will, you will suffer and pay the penalty for

  594. your sins. For all eternity, a debt that

  595. you will never be able to pay off a debt that you will spend.

  596. All eternity forever and ever suffering, the just punishment

  597. for what you've done sinning against the holy God.

  598. And there will be no getting out.

  599. Jesus said, it's the place where the fire never quenches in the

  600. worm Never Dies, it will be an eternal death forever.

  601. Separated from the love and goodness of God, the faithful

  602. Creator, the one that you might have even claimed to know.

  603. And so in suffering happens you need to ask, Will I suffer

  604. eternally If you come to the collusion.

  605. Yeah, never trusted in Christ. I've never truly placed my faith

  606. in Christ. I've never repented of my sin

  607. come to Christ today. The one who suffered once for

  608. all sins and join him in the suffering.

  609. Fourth question. And suffering.

  610. Comes my reaching others. Oh, and suffering happens.

  611. Do you think about this man? There are people.

  612. If they don't know Christ, they will suffer forever.

  613. They will find themselves in Hell unless they believe the

  614. gospel of Jesus Christ. And I have the message of hope.

  615. So, therefore, I need to reach them with a message of

  616. Salvation. Is that how you look at

  617. suffering? Oh, when bad things happen,

  618. don't run away, run towards the fight.

  619. Run towards the fight of reaching others.

  620. Because they don't hear the message.

  621. How can they believe? They don't believe how can they

  622. be saved? We've got the answer of Hope,

  623. bring that message of Hope suffering will convict on it.

  624. Fourth suffering, develops confidence.

  625. From suffering, develops confidence first, and God's

  626. sovereignty. Anybody by show of hands, say I

  627. want God's will for my life. Yeah, we want, his will, his

  628. will is to suffer. And I also join they'll still

  629. with their hands in the air. You really want God's will in

  630. your life? Oh, we know God Sovereign Over

  631. All. What he says in verse 19.

  632. So then those who suffer according to God's, will you

  633. that according to God's will, God is not in active, God's

  634. active, God's will will happen. Well, who can thwart the will of

  635. God? When we suffer develops

  636. confidence in his Sovereign hand in his Sovereign, infinite mind,

  637. this is somehow good. I'll remind you of a passage of

  638. scripture that some of, you know, by heart, you have quoted

  639. and plaster, maybe in your house, or in your office, Romans

  640. 8. We're gonna do something odd and

  641. we're gonna read more than 28 verse 27.

  642. In the context of suffering. Paul writes, the spirit

  643. intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God,

  644. the spirit prays for you in accordance with God's will in

  645. your suffering because you're going to pray, God, get me out

  646. of here, the spirits going to pray Lord, grow them, Lord

  647. matures him. Lord Show Yourself faithful in

  648. Sovereign in their life. Verse 28, we know we know

  649. without a doubt that in all things, God works for the good

  650. of those who love him who have been called according to his

  651. purpose for those God foreknew. He also predestined to be

  652. conformed, to the image of his son, that he might be the

  653. firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

  654. What that teaches is before anything began.

  655. God had chosen you Christian to be conformed to the image of

  656. Christ and he accomplishes that too.

  657. The day-to-day lives of us by bringing us through suffering to

  658. make us more like Christ refining Us by fire that is the

  659. Hope and God Sovereign hand that we have amidst trials that will

  660. develop confidence and you know what God will do, he will work

  661. his purpose, your suffering is not meaningless, your suffering

  662. is to make you more like Christ and oh The Sovereign Mind Of

  663. God. Because would we do it like

  664. that? We go, the easy route and

  665. they'll Staples commercials hit the easy button, it would smack

  666. the Easy Button. We God says, I my way is better

  667. and we know that he works all things for the good of those who

  668. love him and are called according to his purpose

  669. suffering. Also, develops confidence in

  670. God's faithfulness, there's no doubt We've all been through

  671. trials suffering or persecution, no matter how intense it may be.

  672. Has God ever under delivered in the time of trying?

  673. How he's always shown himself. Faithful, will he ever

  674. under-deliver? Be confident in that?

  675. Be confident in God's faithfulness.

  676. His name is faithful and true. And the one who's faithful.

  677. Peter says, we can commit themselves and ourselves to our

  678. faithful Creator and continue to do good, we commit ourselves.

  679. We entrust ourselves, it's a banking term that, you know

  680. what? It means you go and entrust your

  681. funds for someone. We entrust our life.

  682. To our faithful Creator. He's our only hope.

  683. He is our hope and live, he is our hope and death.

  684. He is our Hope For Eternity. He is our Eternal hope and we

  685. can commit Our Lives to him. We can take him to the bank on

  686. his faithfulness. Jesus Christ.

  687. He said this, he was on the cross.

  688. He said, father into your hands. I commit my spirit.

  689. Oh, what ultimate Trust. What commitment he had in his

  690. father's faithfulness. We develop confidence in that

  691. suffering. We develop confidence to press

  692. on because of God's sovereignty because of his faithfulness.

  693. We continue to do good, no matter the Flames.

  694. All when the world comes out us to to try to knock us off the

  695. narrow path. We continue to do good, because

  696. we haven't trusted ourselves to the one who is faithful and true

  697. and Sovereign and good. No matter what comes we

  698. continue. To do good.

  699. We don't say, man, this really isn't worth it. man, I've

  700. trusted Christ my whole life and I've got is a tough life.

  701. Or the early Martyrs polycarp. He said when they nailing him to

  702. the stake, he said for 82 years, have I served him and he's never

  703. let me down. He lived a tough life of

  704. suffering persecution because of the name of Christ. now this

  705. letter, that Peter wrote, he wrote in the year 64 ad and

  706. something happened in that same exact year, the emperor Nero of

  707. Rome, he was the emperor of really all the known world.

  708. At the time, he said the city of Rome on fire.

  709. And proceeded to he was a Madman proceeded to blame the

  710. Christians for it, something that he did, he blamed the

  711. Christian and then boom persecution erupts from there.

  712. And in the same year that Peter writes this to the church, he

  713. wrote does this, he had some Christians sewn in skins of wild

  714. beasts and then mauled by dogs until they died.

  715. He had others dressed in shirts made stiff with wax.

  716. Fix them to trees and set them on fire in his Gardens to

  717. illuminate. His garden parties talk about a

  718. fiery ordeal that's not about that's about to come on them

  719. right? Oh that hit home.

  720. Oh the first Christian, that was lit into flames.

  721. Probably recall the words of Peter.

  722. He told us, don't be surprised, he told us, this is coming.

  723. We're going to rejoice in them and so you Christian don't be

  724. shocked. At the fire World, fiery ordeal

  725. that has come on you to test you.

  726. You said there's been I don't know about persecution coming in

  727. the Good Ol us of a. How can that happen?

  728. Why can that happen? Wait, when we have the First

  729. Amendment, we got rights Wanted are you triple dog?

  730. Dare you even stand firm on God's truth and watch

  731. persecutions hand fall fast stand.

  732. Firm on the truth of the Gospel will be persecuted, you'll be

  733. insulted. Some of us may even find

  734. ourselves in prison or even killed for our very faith.

  735. I pray that God would give us the blessing of being martyred

  736. along side of one another. I would want nothing else on

  737. this Earth to go out in a blaze of glory with one of you.

  738. What a privilege, what a blessing.

  739. That would be. You stand firm on biblical

  740. truth. You'll be persecuted stand firm

  741. on sanctity of life. You're called a woman hater.

  742. You stand firm on the sanctity of marriage.

  743. One man, one woman for life you're a hater.

  744. You stand firm on the true fact that God created mankind male

  745. and female he created them. And they have no right to

  746. choose. That's what God Made You.

  747. You're a hater. You say that Jesus is the only

  748. way to Salvation and all other religions lead to hell.

  749. You are the biggest bigoted that has ever been seen in this world

  750. and you are the scum of the earth.

  751. You know what you're doing, you're bearing the name of

  752. Christ and bear the name of Christ, unashamedly.

  753. You hold to any biblical worldview.

  754. You're a dummy. You're illiterate you don't

  755. trust the science. Are you a barbarian?

  756. What are you? I'm a Christian.

  757. You become the outcasts, you get insulted, you get cancelled, you

  758. get persecuted. Don't be shocked when it comes

  759. on you. It is coming fast.

  760. You see the pattern that's being laid here.

  761. What suffering does come Suffer? Well.

  762. Christian. You have no reason to worry the

  763. face of suffering. You have no reason to worry.

  764. You have peace, you have rest, you have the blessing of God.

  765. Continue to do good. Trust God in your suffering.

  766. He is our faithful Creator and you can commit your life to him.

  767. And to his cause you can bear the scars that he is ordained

  768. that you have on this Earth. What a joy.

  769. I get to walk in the will of God in suffering, and persecution

  770. and trials of many kinds. And in that I will rejoice.

  771. I give a warning to some of you who think you're following

  772. Christ and comfort. You live in the easy life and

  773. you think everything's good with you in the man upstairs.

  774. Some of you will say remind you of the words of Jesus in Luke

    Luke 9:23

  775. 9:23. He said this whoever wants to be

  776. my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and

  777. follow me you've got to carry around death with you everywhere

  778. you go if you want to be his disciple.

  779. Whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses

  780. their life, for my sake will save it.

  781. Puritan Thomas Watson Road of Trials.

  782. He said the test of a pilot is seen in a storm.

  783. So the test of a Christian is seen in Affliction.

  784. You want to know if your faith is real.

  785. Walk through the storm broke through the trials.

  786. Oh, you'll know very quickly if your faith is real or

  787. counterfeit, Do you have faith? Do you have true faith in Saving

  788. faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Will you be counted worthy to

  789. suffer for your for him? You have the Blessed hand of God

  790. upon your life to get to do that.

  791. You either suffer for him now. And experience is blessing or

  792. you will suffer at the hands of an Angry God for all eternity.

  793. If you are in that camp, your faith has never been placed in

  794. Christ. If he is not your hope, if he is

  795. not your salvation, I beg you and plead.

  796. You come to Christ today, repent, and commit your very

  797. life to Jesus Christ. The faithful Savior.

  798. He will save you to the uttermost.

  799. You say I don't know how he can save me, check, you don't know

  800. what I've done. The Lord does the Lord will

  801. forgive you? He will cleanse your sin, he

  802. will bless you with his eternal blessing and he will even bring

  803. you into a place where you can rejoice in the midst of

  804. suffering, that is only brought by the hand of God.

  805. If you don't know Jesus today is the day of salvation.

  806. If, you know him For Joyce. Rejoice in him.
