  6. a.m. Now, let's open God's word and

  7. ask him to reveal his truths for our lives.

  8. Going to the Gospel of John 17th chapter Those of you who are

  9. visiting with us for the first time, those of you who are

  10. guests and not normal attendees here at Key life, you don't know

  11. this, but I'll go ahead and tell you.

  12. We've been going through the Gospel of John for quite some

  13. time. Now verse by verse and We are

  14. here at the 17th chapter and we're going to the next few

  15. weeks break. This 17th chapter down in

  16. several different parts. I wrestled with this all week

  17. long verse 1, I was going to attempt to go beyond verse 1 but

  18. I couldn't. Not and get you out of here by

  19. 3:30. and so, as I studied in, as I Contemplated and meditated

  20. on verse 1 as what we're going to look at today.

  21. The first verse chapter 17 John Bunyan said this, he said you

  22. can do more than pray after you have prayed.

  23. But you can't do more than pray, until you have prayed what a

  24. statement. Jesus hear the king of kings,

  25. and Lord of lords who condescended as we said, from

  26. his glory, in heaven to this Earth, where he Became.

  27. Flesh. And he failed his glory in his

  28. flesh. And he came to this earth to

  29. live as our example and to die as our sacrifices here in John

  30. 17, he is taking one more step closer to his predestined

  31. Mission, his death, his burial and his resurrection in

  32. accordance with the will of the father.

  33. Is Jesus is moving closer and closer step-by-step to the

  34. Suffering The Agony of the cross.

  35. We're going to see that he is moved to prayer.

  36. He's moved to prayer. He can't go any further.

  37. Without praying. Just as bunion said, you can do

  38. more than pray after you have prayed, but you can't do more

  39. than pray until you have prayed. And here we see the Lord Jesus.

  40. Moved. To prayer move to prayer and

  41. many would ask. If Jesus Is God, as he's been

  42. saying this whole time in his, I am statements in John, we've

  43. talked about it over and over the deity of Christ.

  44. Why would he have to pray to the father?

  45. Let us not forget that in this subsistence, the these

  46. subsistence e of the trinity. The Sonic came to do the will of

  47. the father. It is, the Father's will that he

  48. is seeking here. We see this laid out in Jesus

  49. prayer here. In John, chapter 17 known as the

    John 17 chapter mention

  50. high Priestly prayer of Jesus. In this prayer, he is going to

  51. pray as we will see today for himself.

  52. He is also going to pray for the disciples who were with them.

  53. They're on Earth at this time. As we will see in the lessons to

  54. come. He's going to pray for us.

  55. He is going to pray for each and every one of you who are in

  56. Christ two thousand years ago. Jesus on his way to the Cross

  57. stops. He prays for you.

  58. People have sung a song in error so many times when he was on the

  59. cross, I was on his mind know before the foundations of the

  60. earth you were on his mind. he came to rescue, you He came to

  61. intercede for you. We see his high Priestly prayer.

  62. So much is going to be revealed about Jesus in the following

  63. lessons and lessons lesson today.

  64. I want you to pay close attention to it because many

  65. people have called Matthew chapter 6.

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  66. What we see there, as the Lord's Prayer, when, in fact, Matthew

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  67. chapter 6, Jesus is not praying at all.

  68. But what he's doing is he's instructing his disciples on how

  69. to pray. He's teaching them and giving

  70. them a lesson on how to pray. So that's not the Lord's Prayer

  71. at all. That is the model prayer that

  72. the Lord taught the disciples. Here's what prayer ought to be.

  73. But here in John chapter 17, we're going to see the Lord,

    John 17 chapter mention

  74. actually praying. We are going to see the true

  75. Lord's Prayer. We're going to see it here as

  76. John unfolds, the details of this account for us just ours.

  77. Before Christ goes to the cross. He's going to offer as our great

  78. high priest. That's what Hebrews calls him.

  79. Our great high priest, in the order of Melchizedek, he is our

  80. Eternal high priest. We're going to see Jesus

  81. operating in the office. Of the priest.

  82. The priesthood of Jesus. He is going. to pray for us

  83. prior to Becoming the sacrifice of atonement for us.

  84. Jesus fear praying in John 17 verse 1.

    John 17:1

  85. It says this after Jesus said this.

  86. He looked toward heaven. And prayed.

  87. Father, the time has come. Glorify your son that your son

  88. may glorify you after this. Whatever it was that Jesus said

  89. and we go back to last week. Remember what he said?

  90. In chapter 16, the last verse in verse 33, he said I have told

  91. you these things so that in me you may have peace.

  92. He just told them you're about to run for your life.

  93. You're going to feel like you abandoned me but the father's

  94. never going to abandon me have peace, rest in me the same Jesus

  95. who told them, don't lose heart. Don't be trouble.

  96. He says, I told you these things so that you in me may have peace

  97. in this world, you will have trouble, but take heart, I have

  98. overcome. The world and then.

  99. Jesus begins to pray. After Jesus said this.

  100. He begins to pray, not only for himself, not only for the

  101. disciples who were about to run for their lives, but the

  102. Disciples of all time who would follow the lord Jesus?

  103. He looked toward heaven and he prayed again, father the time

  104. has come glorify your son so that your son may glorify you.

  105. What is this saying? What is this reviewing about

  106. Christ? In this lesson, I want you to

  107. see What this reveals. Not only about prayer.

  108. But what it reveals about Christ. how compassionate he is,

  109. how focused he is, how determined he is to do, the will

  110. of God First thing that I want you to see as we look at this

  111. first sentence of this prayer, as Jesus prays.

  112. He Reveals His demeanor in prayer, his demeanor in prayer.

  113. Look what it says he looked toward heaven and prayed.

  114. This is no accident. That the holy spirit is through

  115. John the Apostle included this very important detail in

  116. Scripture. You ever come to Something in

  117. Scripture? That you think?

  118. Well, that's not that important you're wrong.

  119. If it isn't included in scripture, the Holy Spirit

  120. sought that it was very important.

  121. In fact, it is infallible And it's important that we see this

  122. Jesus demeanor. He looked toward Heaven, not an

  123. unimportant detail, but a very crucial detail to understanding

  124. everything else that we're going to see in chapter 17.

  125. He looked toward Heaven. What does that tell us about?

  126. Jesus reverent demeanor here during his prayer?

  127. It tells us that he had a clear focus in his prayer.

  128. He was focused with clarity. On his prayer and he was praying

  129. to, he was not just casting wishes into the window.

  130. That's so often is what our prayer life is.

  131. We pray just casting our wishes into the wind, hoping that

  132. somehow they make it all the way to heaven.

  133. Presenting our wishlist to God. Hoping that it gets there.

  134. He was not just casting his wishes into the wind.

  135. He focused his eyes toward the father.

  136. He focused himself toward the throne.

  137. He was not just aimlessly throwing upwards as the pagans

  138. do in fact, Jesus himself ridiculed people for doing that.

  139. No, he had a purpose and a clear focus in his prayer.

  140. He had a focus toward the father.

  141. Why is this important because in Matthew chapter 6, when he told

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  142. his disciples? How to pray, look how he starts.

  143. It's a lord, teach us to pray. Verse 9, this then is how you

  144. should pray. They wanted to know how do we

  145. pray in? Jesus said this then is how you

  146. should pray. Our Father in heaven Hallowed Be

  147. Your Name. Our Father in heaven.

  148. Hallowed be your name. What did he teach them to do?

  149. Cast your eyes to the Heavens to the father?

  150. Jesus, demeanor in prayer here. Had a clear Focus.

  151. For the father. He was exercising exactly what

  152. he taught his disciples to do here.

  153. Jesus didn't teach them. The praying to their Heavenly

  154. Father only to somehow bypassed that in his prayer life.

  155. No, it says he looked toward Heaven.

  156. Why is that so important? Because that is where the Throne

  157. of God resides. Jesus knowing full.

  158. Well, this to be the truth. He looked toward the father with

  159. a clear focus in the sprayer. Not only did he have a clear

  160. focus in his prayer, he had a fervency in his prayer.

  161. Now this is not going to be as we see.

  162. John's 17th chapter unfold in the next few weeks.

  163. This is not going to be a lifeless cold impasse in it

  164. prayer. No, he is driven by fervent

  165. passion in his prayer. To pray without passion is to

  166. pray cold prayers. The Puritan Thomas Brooks said

  167. this, he said cold prayers always freeze before they reach

  168. heaven. What wisdom and insight into

  169. that cold prayers just based from our fleshly desires or

  170. maybe base from are a pathetic attitudes.

  171. He says those prayers, don't even reach heaven.

  172. Jesus did not pray with a lack of passion as we will see in

  173. this chapter We prayed with fervency.

  174. Not offering a cold prayer. Returns, a passionate gaze

  175. toward the Father in heaven and reverence and in fervency James

    James 5:16

  176. 5:16 to King James says it like this, the effectual fervent

  177. prayers of a righteous man. Availeth much those fervent

  178. prayers. What does that even mean?

  179. That word at, we sieve for fervent.

  180. Effective. You'll see it in a modern

  181. translation that is the Greek word at where we get our English

  182. word energy, so many times. Our prayers are dead and

  183. lifeless weed out when we pray. You don't passionately focus on

  184. God in our prayers. Here Jesus doing the exact

  185. opposite of that fervent. In his prayer with great energy

  186. and passion. We refer to these days that

  187. we're going to see unfold toward the cross and the resurrection

  188. as The Passion of Christ. But, you cannot be passionate in

  189. his action, fervent in his actions unless he was first

  190. fervent in his prayer. I would to God that every

  191. Christian in this room here that you will only live the Christian

  192. Life to the fervency to which you pray in your prayer closet.

  193. You will only. Live out your passion in the

  194. day-to-day. That you pray with in the

  195. secret. Jesus, showing us this principle

  196. here with a fervency in his prayer passion.

  197. Toward the heavens toward the father, his entire demeanor as

  198. we will see step-by-step laid out for us.

  199. That he is passionate and not cold in his prayers.

  200. We see Jesus fervency as our great high priest and how that

  201. over Joy's my soul. To know that Jesus.

  202. Dispassionate in the sprayer that we are about to discover

  203. about to examine. His fervent in his demeanor.

  204. He's clear and focused in his demeanor, Jesus is again,

  205. fulfilling all of his Offices here but specifically The office

  206. of priest. He being our Prophet, our

  207. priest, and our King. We see him here praying, As that

  208. great high priest would pray for those who he was making

  209. atonement for. Next is Jesus.

  210. Praise He reveals not only his demeanor in prayer.

  211. But secondly, he Reveals His determination to do.

  212. The father's will What he says next.

  213. He looked toward heaven and he prayed father. the hour of the

  214. time has come, You know, we've seen other instances in John's

  215. gospel had only you remember with me and chapter 2 there at

  216. the marriage in Cana of Galilee, there was the marriage supper

  217. and they ran out of wine. And Jesus turned the water into

  218. wine, but when his mother came to him, she said Jesus you've

  219. got to do something here. This whole family is about to be

  220. embarrassed, the party's not over and they never run out of

  221. wine. What did Jesus say to her woman?

  222. My hour has not yet. Come.

  223. We see another time. At the Feast of Tabernacles in

  224. John 7:30. But a desire to seize Jesus.

    John 7:30

  225. The father would not allow it why he escaped because his hour

  226. had not yet come. We see again in John chapter 8,

    John 8:20

  227. verse 20, there at the temple and wanted to seize Jesus again.

  228. They were not permitted to see him at this time, either why his

  229. hour had not yet come, but in just a few hours here from John

  230. 17, there in the Garden of Gethsemane, they are going to

  231. seize him only because he allowed them to do it, why?

  232. Because his hour had come. The perfect timing and

  233. fulfillment of the will of God had come.

  234. And Jesus knew this, he says father the hour has come and he

  235. is determined to in that statement to do the father's

  236. will what a prayer? Jesus here, approaching the

  237. father turning his eyes to heaven.

  238. Knowing everything that is coming.

  239. Father. The hour has come what he was

  240. not doing, he was not giving the Father, the news that it was

  241. time. That would be ridiculous.

  242. Jesus was acknowledging. We're on the same page.

  243. And I'm ready to fulfill what has been destined for me in

  244. eternity past. The hour has come Jesus prayed,

  245. knowing in and accepting whatever lie ahead.

  246. Oh, we could learn so much from the Savior here in his prayers.

  247. Lord, I don't know what lie ahead.

  248. But I'm trusting in your will Jesus fully.

  249. Knowing All of the terror. That just hours from then he

  250. would inder. And he says, my hour has come my

  251. hour has come to do your will father.

  252. He knew the pain and the suffering that he would undergo.

  253. He knew the ridicule in the mockery that he would face.

  254. He knew that his beard as the prophet had proclaimed would be

  255. ripped from his face and that his flesh would be torn from his

  256. back and that Nails would be driven in his hands and his feet

  257. and that a thorn crown of thorns would be pressed into his skull.

  258. He knew all of these things. Said, it's time for this thing

  259. the hour. Has come.

  260. He knew the weight of sin. If he would carry the weight of

  261. sin that he would carry, he knew that he was going to be weighted

  262. down with the wrath of God, that belonged to the wicked Sinners

  263. such as myself. He said the hour has come for

  264. that. The hour has come.

  265. That I submit to do the will of the father.

  266. He was determined to do the will of the father, praying knowing

  267. and accepting, what lie ahead. Why would the gun that we would

  268. learn? That?

  269. I would learn that we collectively could learn to

  270. pray, whatever, lie ahead, Lord, your will be done.

  271. The hour had come. And he would not make an

  272. attempt. To evade that hour.

  273. He would walk through the valley of the shadow of death. knowing

  274. that he need not fear any evil here, he is knowing that full

  275. well Accepting what lie ahead. Not only that Jesus prayed.

  276. Embracing what he must do in accordance with the father's

  277. will In accordance with the father's will in specifically

  278. redeeming Sinners for God. The plan of the father had been

  279. established in eternity past. Jesus was not just now getting

  280. the memo on that. He knew the plan and he knew

  281. that the time had come to its full fulfillment.

  282. And that he Was embracing. Everything that the father had

  283. planned in eternity past, he's embracing it in this prayer.

  284. The hour has come Let It Be. Your predestined plan.

  285. Has arrived. Acts chapter 2 Peter speaks of

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  286. this predestined plan in Chapter 2 of Acts.

  287. Peter says this, in verse 23, this man was handed over to you,

  288. by God said purpose. He's talking about Christ and

  289. for knowledge for God, set purpose and foreknowledge.

  290. That means this, it was set in eternity past through the

  291. foreknowledge of God. He knew exactly how it was going

  292. to play out. And you with the help of wicked

  293. men, put him to death by nailing him, to a cross.

  294. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony

  295. of death because it was impossible for death to keep

  296. its, hold on him. Jesus embraced what the father

  297. had willed. Even though he probably wasn't

  298. giddy about it in his Humanity. Oh we not are and forget that

  299. though he is fully God. He is also here in John 17,

  300. fully man. He wasn't giddy about going to

  301. the cross. He was determined to do.

  302. The father's will in spite of what he had to suffer.

  303. What he had to endure? Knowing that the father would be

  304. faithful to do, all that he had promised Jesus prayed embracing

  305. what he must do in accordance with the father's will in

  306. redeeming Sinners. And I'm so thankful today that

  307. he did Where would we be? Had Jesus run from the will of

  308. God in regard to the cross. I can tell you where I would be,

  309. I would be a sinner lost in my sin forever.

  310. Condemned to already destined for hell and wrath and judgment,

  311. were it not for Christ obediently, fulfilling the will

  312. of God through his death burial and Resurrection Calvary.

  313. The plan of the father that had been established was now being

  314. enacted by Christ. Not only did he embrace it.

  315. And accept it as the father's will in this prayer.

  316. We're going to see he obeyed it with his actions.

  317. He obeyed it with his actions, John 4:34.

    John 4:34

  318. The Lord said my food said Jesus is to do the will of him who

  319. sent me and to finish his work. He didn't say was just to accept

  320. it and to embrace it, he said it is also to do it.

  321. The follow-through in the action with the plan of the father,

  322. Isaiah 50 verse 6. The prophet writing hundreds of

    Isaiah 50:6

  323. years before Christ, watch what he says, I offered my back to

  324. those who beat me my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard, I

  325. did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.

  326. Isaiah hundreds of years before Christ revealed the plan,

  327. exactly what was going to happen.

  328. Exactly what did happen. And you know what Isaiah says,

  329. he did not hide his face from this. but instead, He offered

  330. his back to those who beat him, he offered himself, his cheeks

  331. to those who pulled out his beard.

  332. He did not hide his face from mocking and spinning, he endured

  333. this. Jesus went through this to

  334. redeem Sinners because it was the will of the father.

  335. He embraced the father's will and he enacted it.

  336. I putting it into action little lesson to learn here if we're

  337. going to pray for the father's will.

  338. We must also be willing to do the father's will so many times

  339. we pray the will of the father because it's a spiritual thing

  340. to do and then when we know the will of the father because we

  341. see it clearly in the word of God, we neglect to do it.

  342. That's simply just words, Thomas Watson said if the heart does

  343. not accompany Duty. It's speaking not praying.

  344. Thomas Watson, understood this and if you're truly praying from

  345. the heart, you will embrace the will of God and you will act it

  346. out in the duties of the Christian Life.

  347. Jesus is acting this out. Here he is doing What he was

  348. predestined to do. We mustn't ever mustn't, ever

  349. pray. The will of God and then turn

  350. around only to disobey the will of God that is just empty

  351. speaking, that's not prayer, prayer is saying.

  352. Lord Reveal Your Will to me why Not simply so I can know it.

  353. But so as your child I can obediently do your will so many

  354. times you know the will of God but you aren't actively doing it

  355. should not be. So Jesus gives us a different

  356. example here that we must do all that the father has willed in

  357. every hour of our life just as Christ did even in his hour of

  358. suffering and death. In our prayers.

  359. Let us pray as Jesus did. But as trust in God's

  360. providential plan, let us be determined to do the will of God

  361. watch this even if it contradicts your will.

  362. I am so thankful that the will of God contradicted, my will in

  363. Salvation. I would have never come to God.

  364. Had he not drawn me unto himself?

  365. we've already learned that in John's gospel hadn't, we And no

  366. man comes unless the father draws him.

  367. How beautiful that is when we see the truth of that.

  368. Jesus prays here and he reveals in his prayers.

  369. Determination to do, the father's will As he continues to

  370. pray in this one short sentence. We also see that he Reveals His

  371. dependency upon the father, His dependency upon the father,

  372. watch what he says. Next father, the time has come

  373. Glorify your son. Glorify your son.

  374. The only Glory that Christ was interested in was to be

  375. glorified because of his obedience to the father.

  376. Jesus depended on the father's glory and not in His glory

  377. alone. John chapter 8.

    John 8 chapter mention

  378. Verse 54. Jesus replied.

  379. If I glorify myself. My glory means nothing.

  380. My father whom you claim as your God, remember he was rebuking

  381. the religious leaders there. He says is the one who glorifies

  382. me. Well see the dependency of

  383. Christ upon the Father. The glory of the sun was

  384. finished and complete through the preordained work of the

  385. cross. That the father had determined

  386. in eternity past would come to be.

  387. And here we see Christ accepting that and depending on to the

  388. father to give him glory through.

  389. It just as the father has promised that he He would Jesus

  390. was simply trusting in the father to accomplish the plan.

  391. That plan that he had laid out that plan that was his that men

  392. would be redeemed and reconciled to a holy God.

  393. So how beautiful it is to see the dependency of Jesus upon his

  394. father? She the fathers?

  395. Power. Displayed in his suffering

  396. Christ depended on this. The father's power in his

  397. suffering on the cross. He trusted the father would

  398. glorify the sun in all of his suffering.

  399. To take what wicked men intended for harm and to use it for the

  400. greater good. And for the glory of God,

  401. Hebrews chapter 2, the writer of Hebrews says this in verse 9,

    Hebrews 2 chapter mention

  402. but we see Jesus who was made a little lower than the Angels,

  403. that's the condescension of Christ that we talked about

  404. before, As we sing the song All sufficient Merit Now crowned

  405. with Glory though we saw him made a little lower than the

  406. Angels. Now he's crowned with Glory and

  407. Honor because he suffered death And that by the grace of God.

  408. He might taste death. For everyone.

  409. Now, we see him, crowned, with Glory and Honor.

  410. Why? Because he pleased the father in

  411. his suffering, and in his death, Well, that is so foreign for us

  412. to even attempt to grasp that the father would be pleased in

  413. our suffering. Yes.

  414. In fact, we're promised in Scripture that our sufferings

  415. our light and momentary in this world.

  416. They are light and momentary compared to the glory that we

  417. will receive in Christ. And oh, what hope we have in

  418. that Glory. Father's power.

  419. Jesus was, depending upon it here in his prayer that he could

  420. endure the suffering of the cross that he would once again,

  421. where the glory of that suffering.

  422. He also depended here, as we, look at his dependency upon the

  423. father in Paris, he says, glorify your son.

  424. He depended in the father's presence and his abandonment.

  425. Remember back in 1632, he told his disciples.

  426. You're all going to abandon me, but don't worry.

  427. The father's never going to abandon me.

  428. He depended upon the father to do just as the father had

  429. promised. He would do Though he was

  430. abandoned by all of those, he knew In the Flesh in his

  431. lifetime. Though, he was placed in a grave

  432. and buried. He was never abandoned by his

  433. ever-present father Peter again preaching in Acts chapter 2 in

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  434. the same sermon watch what he says he quotes the prophet David

  435. verse 25 David said about him. He said this about the Lord, I

  436. Saw the lord always before me because he is at my right hand

  437. and I will not be shaken. Therefore, my heart is glad and

  438. my tongue rejoices my body. Also will live in Hope because

  439. you will not abandon me to the Grave.

  440. Nor will you let your Holy One? See, Decay Jesus knew that

  441. through David, that there was a promise that was already made in

  442. eternity past, hit the father, would not let the sun stay in

  443. that grave. And he depended upon the father

  444. in his prayer here. Glorified me through my death

  445. glorified me through my burial. Glorify me through my

  446. resurrection trusting in the father to do that work.

  447. Glorify your son. You trusted in the father's

  448. presence. When all others abandon him.

  449. Jesus trusted. The father would soon glorify

  450. him. Price dependent on the father.

  451. Defendant depended on the father's power in his suffering.

  452. He depended on the father's presence and his abandonment.

  453. And he depended upon the Father's Promise of his

  454. resurrection from the dead Isaiah 53.

  455. Verse 10, Isaiah being used by God.

  456. To foretell the resurrection of Christ verse 10 is said yet.

  457. It was the Lord's will to crush him and cause him to suffer was

  458. God's will. We've already talked about that,

  459. Jesus was embracing that the hour has come Glorify your son.

  460. Though, the Lord makes his life a guilt offering.

  461. He will see his offspring and prolong his days and the will of

  462. the Lord will prosper in his hand.

  463. After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life

  464. and be satisfied by his knowledge.

  465. My righteous servant will justify many and he will bear

  466. their iniquities there. In Isaiah's prophecy.

  467. The Plan of Salvation is laid out that the Lord's will.

  468. Was that the Sun be crushed? And then he suffer and that he

  469. died. But he promised him, I'm not

  470. going to leave you there. You suffer in your soul.

  471. On the third day. That stone is going to be rolled

  472. away and you are going to see the light of life and you are

  473. going to be satisfied. Why?

  474. Because the will of the father was accomplish It is through

  475. Christ, that that Will was accomplished.

  476. He trusted in the Father's Promise of his resurrection from

  477. the dead here, as he says, glorify your son, he knows all

  478. that that entail. Because the glory of the son is

  479. in his suffering, it is in his death, it is in his period-- is

  480. in his resurrection. It is in his Ascension, it is in

  481. his soon to be returned. He knew that all of these things

  482. had to be accomplished in the only way that they could be

  483. accomplished. God, glorified the Sun.

  484. Not the son seeking his own Glory.

  485. Father, glorify. Son.

  486. What a beautiful picture. We see there.

  487. In a world where we so often seek to find and to achieve our

  488. own Glory. Lord, I don't want to be

  489. successful. In the eyes of this world.

  490. Lord, you glorify your son. I want to be successful in your

  491. eyes. I want to live out, the good

  492. works, which you have prepared in advance for me to do that.

  493. Bring you glory in this world. And on this Earth, as I live

  494. this life, father I depend on you for any Glory that I have

  495. and it is the glory of Christ that I share and that alone.

  496. I tell people all the time. If you see any good in me, it is

  497. the glory of Christ that has been graciously, granted to me,

  498. by the father, You see Christ in me, not me.

  499. Jesus here as he prays Reveals His dependency upon the father,

  500. father's power in his suffering on the cross, the father's

  501. presence and his abandonment and the Father's Promise of his

  502. resurrection from the dead. And then lastly, as Jesus prays

  503. revealing so much in this one little verse, He Reveals His

  504. desire to bring, glory to the father.

  505. What's this? He says, father, the time has

  506. come glorify your son. and the only reason that I want to be

  507. glorified, So that I can glorify you.

  508. Glorify your son. That your son may glorify you.

  509. Oh how different that is from our prayer.

  510. Life Lord do work so I can benefit or do work so I don't

  511. have to suffer any pain or any Agony Lords or do something.

  512. So I have to go through any trial.

  513. No knowing full. Well, what lie ahead, Jesus says

  514. glorify your son so that I can bring you glory.

  515. Oh, we could learn so much from the Heart of Jesus that is being

  516. revealed. And just the intro to this

  517. wonderful passage. He has here a desire to bring

  518. glory to the father that the son may glorify you.

  519. John chapter 12 we got a glimpse into this In this passage.

    John 12 chapter mention

  520. If you remember back with me verse 23 it said Jesus replied,

  521. the hour has come for the son of man to be glorified.

  522. He was letting his disciples know that the time is

  523. approaching. He said I tell you the truth,

  524. unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it

  525. remains only a Single Seed but if it dies it produces many

  526. seeds. How many of you here today are

  527. thankful? That you were one of those many

  528. seeds that because Christ fell to the ground and he died in

  529. that. We have been produced Just seeds

  530. unto God, the man who loves his life.

  531. He says, we'll lose it while the man who hates his life.

  532. In this world will keep it for eternal life.

  533. Whoever serves me must follow me and where I am.

  534. My servant also will be my father will honor the one who

  535. serves me. Now, watch what Jesus says, here

  536. in verse 27. Now, my heart is troubled.

  537. And what shall I say? Why was his heart trouble?

  538. He knew what was about to happen, but watch what he says.

  539. Shall I say father, save me from this hour.

  540. Watch what Jesus says, no. It was for this very reason.

  541. I came to this, Our Father, glorify your name.

  542. Then a voice Came From Heaven, I have glorified it and will

  543. glorify it again. How is he doing this?

  544. He was glorifying his name through the Life of Christ of

  545. the Miracles that he wrought to the preaching that he preached.

  546. And now he's saying I'm going to glorify it again.

  547. Then your death, your burial and Resurrection your Ascension and

  548. your return. I'm going to glorify your name

  549. because in glorifying your name, my name will be glorified.

  550. Jesus prays that in his desire is to bring glory to the father.

  551. Where is that in the American church?

  552. When we pray, Lord, your will be done.

  553. So that you can receive glory and honor and praise.

  554. Jesus understood is that the glory of the father was his

  555. entire purpose? The father's glory is the whole

  556. purpose of Christ. Jesus came.

  557. He said it many times to do the will of the father who sent him.

  558. And he did it flawlessly. Is all sufficient Merit.

  559. Flawlessly. He did, the will of God.

  560. So that the father would receive all of the glory.

  561. As he praised there in verse 1 of 17 that the son may glorify

  562. you. The father's glory is the whole

  563. purpose of Christ. May we never forget that.

  564. And the father's Glory. Should be the whole purpose of

  565. all who are in Christ. You share that purpose in your

  566. prayer. What do you pray?

  567. So that the father may be glorified or do you like most in

  568. the American church? Pray only.

  569. So you can get more The whole charismatic movement that is

  570. built on selfish, American Greed, praise that way.

  571. Don't join their ranks. What would happen if the church

  572. started praying? This Lord, your will be done, no

  573. matter what that is, even if I have to suffer.

  574. So long. As you.

  575. Are glorified. So long as you are glorified, be

  576. analyzed the death, be it suffering in pain.

  577. That's how Jesus prayed here, knowing suffering and pain was

  578. just ahead. And he says I need you father to

  579. glorify me for one purpose and that is so I can glorify you

  580. Lord, build the Christians up. Why build them up?

  581. Encourage them, strengthen them not so that they can go around

  582. arrogantly claiming to be better than anyone else know.

  583. So they can bring glory to their Heavenly Father.

  584. You said Kirk, why are you so passionate about this?

  585. Because no one seems to be. That she that Jesus is. well,

  586. that the Sun may bring Glory. To you.

  587. The father's Glory should be our whole purpose.

  588. Let's go back to the Reformation where we got this Latin phrase

  589. Sola Deo Gloria. Solid Deo Gloria.

  590. For those of you who aren't Latin students like myself, I'll

  591. translate it as Google translated it for me.

  592. God's glory alone. That is why we exist that is why

  593. he's breathing life into us. That is why he has saved us

  594. through Christ Jesus sacrifice. It is for His glory and His

  595. glory alone. Here in a reach group and you

  596. signed up for the five Solas, you're going to learn about all

  597. of those things, and I'm excited for you.

  598. You're going to see that your purpose is to glorify God.

  599. The second London, Baptist confession of faith and 1689.

  600. The long with the Westminster Confession of Faith.

  601. You've heard me mention them and you go to our website.

  602. You will see that the London, Baptist confession of faith of

  603. 1689 is on our website. And both of those confessions of

  604. faith. Both of them agree.

  605. But the chief end of man man's entire purpose.

  606. It's to bring glory to God. To enjoy fellowship with him

  607. forever. That's what we were created to

  608. do and it is in Christ that we are recreated so that we can do

  609. this. But so many times Our prayers

  610. are just words hoping that God will hear them so that we can

  611. get what we want. I would challenge every

  612. Christian in the room as I challenge myself with the

  613. statement. What would happen?

  614. if you said, Lord take away, Everything in my life, that is

  615. not Christ. And let me glorify you through

  616. that. Oh, the American Church would

  617. never. Pray, such a radical thing,

  618. would they? We see the one that we claim to

  619. follow here, the Lord Jesus. Pray exactly that.

  620. I know all my friends are going to abandon me.

  621. I know that they're going to disown me, those who have spent

  622. the last years of my life pouring into I know that the

  623. people of Israel, my people. Have arranged this whole thing

  624. that one of my own has betrayed me and committed treason against

  625. God and flat. I know.

  626. That Roman soldiers. Her just doing what they are

  627. told to do. You're going to beat me.

  628. And torture me. And eventually kill me.

  629. But Lord. If it brings you glory, father.

  630. So let it be. Oh, how the Sun brought glory to

  631. the father? We see his desire in prayer to

  632. do. That Jesus wasn't running from

  633. the cross. Each moment he was taking

  634. another step toward it. You know, how thankful I am for

  635. that? What do we do with this?

  636. What do we do with what this reveals about, Jesus, and his

  637. prayer life. What can we take away from this?

  638. I'll tell you what we can do. We can examine our lives in

  639. light of this opening, to this great prayer that we're going to

  640. see made by Jesus, and we can examine ourselves in light of

  641. this by asking a few questions. If you questions that are

  642. related to this one verse, I'm going to make a huge assumption

  643. here, though. I know that I are in doing

  644. those. Assuming that we are all

  645. believers here. We can ask ourselves these

  646. question. Number one is my demeanor in

  647. prayer like that of Christ. Do I lift my eyes to my heavenly

  648. father? Very my prayer life.

  649. Am I so focused on all of my Earthly concerns that I really

  650. give him no regard unhappy when he gives me what I want but I'm

  651. upset when he doesn't. Is my demeanor in prayer like

  652. that of Christ. Is my determination in prayer to

  653. know and to do the father's will as Christ.

  654. Did the father's will is that a part of my prayer life to know

  655. the will of God and to do the will of God 43.

  656. Do my prayers. Indicate my dependency upon the

  657. father. When you pray, you depending

  658. upon the father Are you trying to alter the father's mind so

  659. that he does? What you will and what you

  660. desire? Are you asking the father to

  661. depend upon your want list as if he's Santa Claus and you're

  662. making out a Christmas list to send to him, hoping that you get

  663. everything that you want and being upset when you don't, How

  664. about we take Jesus example? See that in his prayers.

  665. He depended upon the father. Are you trusting the father with

  666. everything everything in this life, everything in the Life to

  667. Come. Are you solely dependent upon

  668. him? Then ask yourself this question.

  669. Does my prayer life reveal that my greatest desire?

  670. Is the glory of God. Does my prayer lives reveal

  671. that? My greatest desire is the glory

  672. of God and no glory of my own. Oh, I can only answer those

  673. questions for myself. I would ask that you would

  674. examine yourself and ask yourself those questions or

  675. perhaps? unfortunately, you have to say,

  676. Prayer life. I can't tell you the last time I

  677. actually took out of my busy schedule.

  678. To get on my face and get alone with God In Prayer.

  679. I don't say that to beat any of you up.

  680. I say that because to miss out, on the intimacy of prayer that

  681. Jesus died for you to have is to Forfeit one of the greatest

  682. blessings that we have here on this Earth.

  683. Again. Christian will only be as strong

  684. as his prayer life. Don't be deceived by all of the

  685. lies that contradict that You can have all the talent in the

  686. world. You can have all of the

  687. giftedness in the world, but if you do not spend time in private

  688. prayer with God, You're missing out on the greatest, blessing

  689. and fellowship. You could ever even begin to

  690. imagine. So assuming that you're a

  691. Believer here today, ask yourself those questions.

  692. But perhaps you're here today and you're not a Believer, I

  693. would encourage you. To turn it to Day from your sin.

  694. And to turn to Christ as Lord, and Savior by faith.

  695. Trusting in Him and him alone. And what he did for you.

  696. At the cross. What did he do for you at the

  697. cross? He died in the place of every

  698. Wicked sinner, who would believe, and trust that he is

  699. Lord and Savior today. When he draws you unto himself

  700. drawing you out of sin drawing, you out of the deceit of

  701. Darkness drawing. You out of the wickedness of

  702. this world. Believe and trust in him and his

  703. ability to save you and to save you forever more and you shall

  704. be saved call on the name of Jesus today.

  705. The scripture is true and it says, for whosoever, shall call

  706. upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  707. You say today. Well I don't know that I need to

  708. call upon the name of the Lord. Then the Lord is not drawing you

  709. unto himself. Because if he were revealing

  710. your condition and drawing you unto himself, you would want to

  711. call on the name of the Lord. You would see how desperate you

  712. are and how depraved you are in your sin and how a need.

  713. You are of a savior and if he is showing you that today, and he

  714. is drawing you unto himself. Cry out to Jesus today, to save

  715. you and to wash you and to cleanse you from all of your

  716. sin, because he is the only hope that you have. he saved today,

  717. as you, believe in you trust in Christ, and as you repent of

  718. your sin, because it is then and only then, You can know the will

  719. of God. and that you can pray true prayers and that you can

  720. live out God's plan and that you can see the glory of God

  721. displayed in your life and so that you can bring glory to God

  722. with your life. You don't know Christ, run to

  723. him today and faith and repentance and be saved if you

  724. do know Christ. Be challenged by our wonderful

  725. savior. With one sentence today.

  726. And see his heart revealed. Let's pray together.

  727. Father, in the name of Jesus, we come to you now.

  728. Thanking you so much for this one verse.

  729. That reveals so much about you Lord, Jesus.

  730. May we see your prayers? May we pray with the same

  731. consistency in fervor. Determination and passion.

  732. May we have the same heart for the will of the father as you

  733. do. And I pray for the soul who's

  734. here, who does not know you that today?

  735. They not let this day slip by. That today.

  736. It would repent of their sin. And turn to you as Lord, and

  737. Savior, and be forgiven and granted eternal life.

  738. As you've died for them to have. We give you all the glory and

  739. all the praise. Holy Spirit, we yield to you

  740. now, in the name of Jesus, we pray.

  741. Amen. Thank you for listening to the
