The True Lord's Prayer Part 3 - John 17:9-19

a.m. Now, let's open God's word and

ask him to reveal his truths for our lives.

Would turn to John's gospel. The 17th chapter John in the

seventeenth chapter of his gospel is recording here for us

as we have seen in the last two lessons.

What is known as Jesus High Priestly prayer which we have

labeled the true Lord's Prayer. The true Lord's Prayer.

Contrary to what many people think that the Lord's Prayer is

found in Matthew. That is the model prayer that is

Jesus teaching his disciples. How to pray this here in John.

John 17 · chapter mention

Chapter 17 is Jesus actually praying.

This is the true Lord's Prayer. We're going to see in this

prayer today that Jesus intercedes.

For his own. We will begin examining this

portion of the high Priestly prayer in this third lesson.

And in this third lesson, we are going to see that Jesus

intercedes. For his own as their great high

priest. Isn't it good to know that we

have a great high priest who intercedes for his own?

He's going to direct petitions to the father on behalf of his

sheep in this prayer. In fact, specifically those

sheep over there with him. During this time they are the

eleven eleven remaining Apostles.

We know Judas Iscariot has already betrayed Christ.

He's already gone his way of Perdition.

Now, it's Jesus. The 11 who remained. we're going

to read about this today, and he's going to pray specifically

for them, but there are lessons in this for all disciples who

will follow after them, Sinclair Ferguson says this.

In his book entitled lessons, from the upper room, he says

that we should turn to the high Priestly prayer of Jesus

frequently. To find out what Christ most

wants. We should turn to this prayer

frequently to find out what Christ most wants.

This is the deepest desires of Christ.

He is petitioning, the father. It's the same as when you go to

the father and you pour out your deepest desire, Christ tears,

pouring out, his deepest desires to the father and in this

portion of the high Priestly prayer, we are going to as mr.

Ferguson has said, we are going to see and to find out what

Christ most wants for his disciples.

To even begin to imagine. That the Lord cares for me

enough. That he cares for you who are in

Christ enough. To have any other desire for us

than that, we would perish in hell, like we deserve.

Is astounding. We're going to see he Reveals

His desire for his own. In this prayer.

He is going to pray specifically.

For the Believers. We are going to see that in this

lesson, and then when we meet again for our John lesson, after

the Resurrection Sunday break, which we will take next week,

you don't have to advertise that on Facebook to know that a

church is going to have a resurrection service on the

resurrection holiday. We have one every week here.

Every weeks the Lord's day every week is Resurrection Day. but

when we return, we're going to see not only does he pray for

these eleven who are with him on Earth, the apostles He's going

to then pray for us. and to think, That 2000 years ago.

Jesus is going to share in a prayer.

To the father. What he most wants for me.

The one who was a deserving of hell and of judgment.

Yet he rescued me. So as we look at the true Lord's

prayer. Today, we're going to see Jesus

interceding for his own. I told the men when we started

this, as one of my favorite passages of scripture, and I

really do mean that and I know you find me saying that all the

time about every passage that I come too. but this one, If you

will, pay close attention with me today.

Begins to reveal the true heart. That Jesus does have.

As intercessor for those who the father has given him.

We talked a lot about that. Last week.

We're going to see that again. Look at John chapter 17.

Verse 9. I'll read it all in and we'll

break it down. He says, I pray for them.

I'm not praying for the world attention to that.

Not praying for the world, but for those, you have given me

over all the people in the world who just think that Jesus is on

their side, the wrong. I'm praying for all those you

have given me for. They are yours.

Who are his, those who the father has given.

There's no need to work that out again.

First 10, all I have is yours and all you have is mine.

Glory has come to me through them.

He's saying again so that we can understand it.

We are one in essence. I will remain in the world no

longer, but they are still in the world, and I'm coming to

you. Holy Father, protect them by the

power of your name. I'm coming to you.

Then he calls on the father, Holy Father.

Protect them by. Your name.

The name, you gave me so that they may be one as We Are One.

While I was with them, I protected them and kept them

save. By the name you gave me.

None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so

that the scripture would be fulfilled.

I want Doom to extract the destruction, he didn't say the

one who was saved and then got lost.

He says, he was doomed to destruction.

He was never of Christ. John told us this is epistle.

He went out from us because he was not of us.

I'm coming to you now. But I say these things while I'm

still in the world so that they may have the full measure of my

joy within them. Stop for a second.

Jesus is just hours from the cross.

Hours from the cross. And he's not focused on nails,

he's not focused on a Crown of Thorns.

He's not focused on the scourging, that's about to take

place as they rip flesh from his back, he's not focused on his

beard being ripped from his face.

He's not focused from the embarrassment and the shame of

hey me hanging naked there on a tree.

He's not mentioning those things.

He's wanting to join of his disciples to be complete.

What a beautiful picture here of the savior's heart.

He says this, in verse 14, I've given them your word and the

world has hated them for they are not of the world, any more

than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take

them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil

one. They are not of the world even

as I am not of it sanctify them by the truth.

Your word is truth as you sent me into the world.

I have sent them into the world for them.

I sanctify myself that they too may be truly Sanctified.

Jesus said I set myself apart so that they would do the same

thing. Let us look at this and let us

break down this prayer of intercession from Christ.

This is an intercessory prayer. He is praying for others.

That is the definition of an intercessory prayer, where one

prays for another, where one stands in the gap for an

individual or a group of individuals, he is interceding

in his prayer petitioning. The father for his own, this is

a prayer of specificity. Now you've heard me say

specificity wants I'm going to try not to say that too many

times today because if I say specificity, I'll mess it up.

If I say specificity too many times, I'm going to mess it up

but don't you see? This is a specific prayer, this

is a specific prayer, a pointed prayer, a directional prayer.

Not a general prayer not, not another blanket prayer.

This is a direct prayer for an exclusive group in that

exclusive group is his own. They are that specific prayer.

Verse 9 makes this very clear. I pray for them.

I am not praying for the world. Who is he praying for his own?

But for those, you have given me, those, the father has given

him his true sheep for. They are yours.

He's not praying for Judas here. Judas was not his own to father,

had not given him Judas. He was not of the sheep pen,

he's praying for his own. All I have is yours and all you

have is mine. Glory has come to me through

them, he is praying specifically for the Believers.

This is specific intercession for his own for the elect.

He said, I pray for them. It doesn't make any two ways

about it doesn't apologize for not praying for anyone else.

He is interceding for the Saints.

Those the father had given him, what a privilege it is to be,

given to the son by the father and to know that the sun is

interceding for us. He says, I'm praying for them.

He says, I'm not praying for the world.

Do you know, he knows who the world is.

He knows all of the unredeemed Just as he knows all of the

redeemed before they ever know it.

He knows it. He says are not praying for

them. Jesus was not praying for the

unbelieving world, why? He's not the intercessors for

the unbeliever. If he were the intercessor for

the unbelievers, they would be saved because he would mediate

between them and God. Just as he does for the

believer, they are not saved and he's making that very clear.

I'm not there intercessor. That's why he includes the

phrase. I'm not praying for the world.

Oh, what a privilege. It is your Christian to have

Christ interceding for us. Is, I'm not praying for the

world. I'm praying for my own.

Intercedes for his church. He doesn't understand for the

world. Why does he not intercede for

the world? Because he's going to judge the

world. Although man on Thursday, nights

are studying and walking through the Book of Revelation.

Just this last week, we saw the great white Throne judgment.

It is at the great white Throne judgment that all of those whose

names were not written in the Lamb's Book of Life before the

foundations of the Earth, Resentenced to the lake of

everlasting fire. Which is the second death for

their unbelief and their sin, they were judged out of books

and the books that we learned about, were these.

There were books that contain to every sinful deed that they had

ever committed, aren't you thankful that in Christ?

All of our sinful Deeds have been cast as far as the East is

from the west where he remembers them no more.

Aren't you thankful that they are at the depths of the ocean?

Never to be seen again, but for the unbeliever, this is not

true. The unbeliever, he will stand

before God and he will answer for every single Wicked deed.

And then if that's not enough, he will then answer for the fact

that his name is not in the Lamb's Book of Life that he is

not truly saved that. He did not truly believe unto

Christ for salvation. He'll be their judge.

And the situation. All the world loves to scream

that. Oh, don't judge me.

And I warned you this there is a judgment that is coming upon the

unbelieving world. Jesus is not praying for you in

this text here. In John chapter 17 because he

knows each and every one and he knows they will stand before

him. And he has been given authority

to judge them and they will experience the second death in

Hell forever. You can't erase that from the

word of God. He says, I'm not praying for

them. But I am praying for my own.

He intercedes for those and only those who were his those and

only those who are hints. When the enemy wants to bring an

accusation against a True Believer, it is Christ who

intercedes for us and says they have been covered in the blood.

All of the accusations that you bring against them they are they

are arranged. They are null and void, why?

Because my blood has cleansed him as we sing about just a

moment ago from all of their sin.

He's praying for his own. It's specific intersection.

Intercession Ford Is he laying not only?

As we look at this intercessory prayer of specificity, is it

specific? Intercession for his own.

It is specific intimacy with his own.

Look at verse 10 verse 10 there. In the first part.

All I have get have is yours and all you have is mine.

He's talking there about the deep and intimate Fellowship,

that is own have with the father.

And with the sun, this is revealing specific intimacy for

his own. It is revealing that they have

been allowed communion with the father and that they have been

allowed at communion with the sun.

This is specific intimacy. Meaning this that he loves his

elect with a different kind of love than the general love that

he has for the world, he loves them with a communing

fellowshiping. Intimate love, he reveals that.

Here it is. That love it is that love that

allows us to commune with the father and fellowship to be one

with him and to commune with the sun and fellowship and to be one

with him. In fact, first John John says

this in his first epistle chapter 1 verse 1 that which was

from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen

with our eyes, which we have looked at in our hands have

touched this. We Proclaim concerning the word

of life. The life appeared.

Yes, it was Christ. We have seen it and testify.

Do it. And we Proclaim to you, the

eternal life, which was with the father and has appeared to us.

Eternal life was with the father.

When in eternity past, Now, we've seen and heard of it, so

that you also may have fellowship with us and our

fellowship. Watches is with the father and

with his son, Jesus Christ. Now, see if John didn't borrow

this. From the words of Jesus, we

write this to make our joy complete Was John saying here,

John was saying this and there's intimate Fellowship for the

saint with the father and the son.

There is true, intimate communion and there is no

intimate communion in any other way.

Why is there true intimate communion between the father and

the son with the believer? Watch this because Jesus prayed

for it in John chapter 17. Jesus is praying for that

intimacy for his own that they would No, the father as he knows

the father and they would know the Sun as the father knows the

son and that they would be one with the father.

And with the son is a specific intimacy for his own being

revealed. He praised not for the world

here. He has no deep intimacy and

communion with the world. In fact, they shrug at his

General love that he shows them everyday.

And how does he show them General?

Love the lost. Man is alive right now,

somewhere, eating lunch, enjoying life, and it's only

because of God's General benevolent.

Love for mankind, that he does that because he deserves to die

and he deserves judgment and he deserves hell.

Oh, how much deeper? Is the love of God in Christ for

those who the father has given the sun.

Allowing them, intimate communion with the godhead, deep

intimacy, only for the True Believer.

This intercessory prayer of specificity is special

intercession for his own and specific intimacy with his own

thirdly. He reveals in this specific

intentions for his own specific. Intentions, look at verse 10,

all I have is yours and all you have is mine & Glory has come to

me through them. You said?

My specific intention for my followers.

Is that they bring me Glory? That Christ would be seen in and

through his disciples. He speaking in past tense as if

it's already happened because it's already determined it's

going to happen. Don't you love when Jesus does

that he speaks of something that hasn't yet happened?

As if it's already happened because the father has already

spoke it into existence in eternity past, he said these

disciples are going to bring me Glory really Peter's going to in

that deny him three times and in just an hour or so.

How could that be? Jesus knows the full story.

Aren't you thankful for that and he doesn't base the full story

based on your mess ups on the front end, he's got the whole

thing already figured out. He's saying that here specific

intentions for his own. What is this specific intentions

for his own? It's this and he would be seen

through his true disciples and that in Christ being seen in his

true disciples. They would bring glory to him

with their lives. It's as good as done.

All of these who he's praying for here.

You know what they went on to do Bring glory to God with their

lives. He's apostles who he is

specifically praying for here today, are the reason that we

are here this morning, because they continue to be faithful to

that, which Jesus prayed, they would be faithful to and that

was the Gospel and the glory of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Do you see when Jesus prays things happen?

What Comfort we have of knowing that if we are truly his His

intentions for us will come to pass and what is his attention

intention for the True Believer. That Christ would be seen in

them and that they would bring Glory with their lives and bring

others to the gospel with the message that they preach.

The words that they Proclaim, this is an intercessory prayer

of specificity is specifically for his own before you go making

accusations, who does Jesus think that he is?

I'll go ahead and tell you, he's king of kings and Lord of lords

and he can pray for whoever. He wants to whenever he wants

to, and you have no business and trying to tell him how to do it

differently. I'll take that, as praise.

I hope he does. The next thing we see this

intercessory prayer is I prefer security.

Want you to pay close attention to this?

11 through 16 talk about security.

Jesus is praying that his disciples would be secure verse

11 speaks of this. He says, I will remain in the

world no longer, but they are still in the world.

Jesus grieving that he's leaving his disciples.

I am leaving the world. Where is he going?

Just as he said, he's going back to the father.

But he knows he's going to leave them into the world and you

know, this he knows everything that they're going to face.

He knows the persecution. He knows that Peter's going to

deny him three times. He knows the agony and the

internal Agony that Peters going to face in the shame because he

denies Christ. But he also knows that he's

going to restore Peter on the Sea of Galilee and he knows his

that Peter is going to go on and on the day of Pentecost, he's

going to preach the greatest sermon that the world has ever

heard since Christ, preached and thousands are going to be saved.

And he knows that Peter one day is going to be crucified upside

down on a cross, and he's going to do that with great joy in his

heart. He knows what's going to happen

here. Yeah, he knows that they need

security. I will remain in the world no

longer, but they are still in the world and I am coming to

you. Holy Father, protect them by the

power of your name. He's saying, father protect

them. The name you gave me so that

they may be one as we are one while I was with them.

I protected them and kept them save by that name you gave me.

None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction.

It was destiny that he was lost, so that scripture would be

fulfilled. He's praying for the security of

his own Jesus interceding here in prayer for his disciples that

they would be secure and protected by God.

This is the reason for a Believers eternal security.

This is the sun petitioning, the father to preserve his own, this

is the doctrine which is called the preservation of the Saints

or persevering faith. This Doctrine was wrought not in

the minds of theologians. This Doctrine is wrought to the

prayer of Jesus here. In John, chapter 17, Jesus asked

that his father followers be preserved.

People ask me, why do I believe in eternal security?

Because Jesus prayed that his followers would be eternally

secure and I doubt That Jesus didn't pray.

The father's will. But he did pray, the father's

will because that's how he taught others to pray.

And he prayed perfectly, the father's will and the father

secures, all those who are truly in Christ, he keeps them 1st

Peter, chapter 1. Verse 3 says, praise be to the

God and father of our Lord, Jesus Christ in his great Mercy.

He has given us a new birth into a Living Hope through the

resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an

inheritance that can never how many times never perish spoil or

fade. Watch this kept in heaven for

you. I'm glad it's not kept here

because I would probably find it in mess it up.

It's kept in heaven for you who through faith or shielded by

God's power until the coming of the Salvation that is ready to

be revealed in the last time. Why are we shielded by God's

power? Because Jesus prayed that we

would be preserved by the father's power.

Look at that verse 11. He praised this I will remain in

the world no longer but they are still in the world and I am

coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the

power of your name. You are protected in Christ by

the name of Jehovah, God of God. Here's another is Almighty.

There's no one above him. You're a preserved by the

father's power. You were kept.

Why? Because you're good.

Because you're a churchgoer. No, you're kept by the father's

power because the sun asked the father, that it would be.

So I'll see the prayer of Jesus here and how beautiful this is.

You were kept and preserved. You are eternally secure

preserved by the father's power because Jesus asked that it

would be. So second Corinthians 1:21 says,

2 Corinthians 1:21

now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ,

who does it? Is God.

It's God who makes us stand. Firm in Christ.

You thought it was you. I'm sorry that you're sadly

mistaken. It is God, he anointed us set

his seal of ownership on us and put his spirit in our, hearts,

as a deposit guaranteeing. What is to come, why didn't you

do this? Because here, in John chapter

17, Jesus asked that the father would the father is faithful to

do with the sun, ask just as the sun is faithful to do what the

father asked of him. What a beautiful picture.

We see there that we are preserved by the father's power.

He said Holy Father, protect them.

Not only preserved by the father's power were preserved by

the sun's position. The sun's position, look at 11

as it continues. He says, I will remain in the

world no longer, but they are still in the world and I am

coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the

power of your name. The name, you gave me So that

they may be one as we are one. He says the name that you gave

me. And what does that name?

That name is familiar name. I hope to us.

It is the name Jesus. Jehovah saves it is the name of

that. The father gave to the son and

his Incarnation. Why is that so important?

Jesus says, father, protect them by your name and then also

protect them and preserve them by my name.

The name you have given me the position that you have

established for me. And what is that position?

Let me just tell you what that position is in case you think

that Jesus is ever going to let you down.

Philippians 2:9 says, therefore God, exalted him to the highest

place. This is right after we see

Christ condescend into this Earth.

As a human humbling himself and humbling himself to death on a

cross. And because of that watches his

therefore God, exalted him to the highest place and gave him.

The name, that is above every name that at the name of Jesus,

every knee should bow in heaven and on Earth and under the

Earth. And every tongue confess that

Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God, the Father who

protects us who preserves us Jesus, it is the name that is

above every name and who gave him that name.

It is the father and it is Jesus here saying father continue to

preserve them by the name that you gave me.

Orange, you think for this morning that you were preserved

in Jesus the Christ, aren't you thankful that?

He is your lord and your savior and you have no reason to doubt.

What he says is true, your preserve your preserved by the

father's power. Your preserved by the sun's

position. Protected by Jesus himself.

In fact, Philippians, 1:6 tells us this Being confident of this

that he who began a good work in, you will carry it on to

completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

You can Bank on it. If you are his, you are secure

in him until the day Christ returns and you are glorified,

Protected by Jesus. There is no other name.

It is the name that is above every name.

Hebrews 7:25 it says, therefore, he is able to save completely to

Hebrews 7:25

the uttermost. He is able to save completely

those who come to God through him, because he always lives to

intercede for them. He started interceding for us in

John, chapter 17 and he always continues to intercede for his

own. Showing us that the work that he

has begun will be completed. Also thankful for that this

morning. I'm so thankful that he didn't

let me get in here and mess that up.

I told the first service, I'm glad he didn't let me be

involved in that because I'm a professional Messer upper Earth.

I know that's not proper English.

But you get what I mean. If you ever just had one of

those days where Everything You Touch, just fell apart.

How about one of those weeks? How about one of those months?

We could go on, couldn't we? If we could mess it up.

We would mess it up. Aren't you thankful that he

doesn't let us? That were preserved by the

position of Jesus Christ. Unless somehow he falls off the

throne. And he's not going to.

Because there's no one big enough to knock him off the

throne. Is the name that is above every

name that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow.

And every tongue confess and he is the one who is preserving his

own. Oh, I get so aggravated with

people who don't want to adhere to the doctrine of eternal

security security, the preservation of the Saints.

I get aggravated with them and the reason that I get aggravated

with him is because they miss the whole point.

That we are eternally secure, not because we deserve it, we

are eternally secure because Jesus Christ prayed that it

would be. So, and I got a problem with you

thinking that you can somehow override a prayer of Jesus by

your behavior. I'm thankful that Jesus preed.

Those that the father has given him would be preserved by the

father's power and by the sun's position.

We also see this. Will be preserved from the

prince of this world. Look at verse 15.

Verse 15. My prayer is not that you take

them out of the world. That's what the charismatic

wants. They won't live to be peachy and

Rosie chipper all the time. So in this life Jesus said,

you'll have all kinds of troubles.

It's going to be that way. He's not going to take us out of

the troubles just for the sake of taking us out of the troubles

until it is. His appointed time what he's

going to do is he's going to receive Glory through our

suffering. He's going to receive Glory.

Through our trials, he's going to receive Glory through our

pain just as the father of receive Glory through the pain

and the trials and sufferings of Christ.

Oh what shoes we get to fill isn't that amazing?

He says I'm going to ask that you take them out of the world

but you protect them from the evil one, protect them from the

evil one, The Prince and the power of this world.

Satan, Jesus is praying right here for the protection of his

own from the enemy. Boy, don't we need this prayer?

Doesn't it seem as we look around in the society and the

culture that we live in that Satan is just running rampant in

our culture. Aren't you thankful that?

Because of the prayer of Jesus, he's not running rampant in your

life. He's not destroying your home,

he's not destroying your family. He's not taking away your

salvation. He can't do those things.

You're secure in Christ. Okay.

Need to see view. Yes, he tries all the day long,

doesn't he? But he has no power in

comparison to the power of Christ when we dressed in that

he dressed in the protection from the prince of this world.

In fact, Romans chapter 8, Paul says this, in verse 37, no, in

Romans 8 · chapter mention

all things, we are more than conquerors.

How many things? All thing?

It all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved

us for, I am convinced. That's what Paul's convinced up.

That neither death nor life Christ, Our Hope and life

deaths. We just saying Neither death,

nor life, neither angels, nor demons.

Neither the present, nor the future, nor any powers neither

height, nor depth nor anything else in all creation will be

able to separate us. Who's the us there?

The True Believer is own. Nothing will be able to separate

us from the love of God. That is in Christ Jesus.

Our lord, not even the evil one Satan himself.

Why? You got it all figured out.

Is your here on Sunday morning at your Bible open, reading it

because you went to enrich and get a little deeper Bible study.

Or is it because Jesus prayed that it would be, so I'll go

ahead and answer it for you. It's because Jesus prayed that

it would be so that we would be preserved and protected from the

prince of this world from Satan himself.

I'll remember when you were lost and undone and without Christ,

and Satan would just wreak havoc upon your line.

But now that you are in Christ, you can take the word of God and

you can apply it to your own life.

You can see the words of James where he says, humble yourself

resist the devil and he will flee He has no power over your

life, why? Because you were more than a

conqueror in every situation because of Christ, Jesus.

That's a promise that he has given us through a prayer that

he prayed in John, chapter 17. We see this is a prayer of

John 17 · chapter mention

intercessory in regard to security.

This was a prayer of security and preservation of his own.

Each of us here in Christ, we were preserved because of Christ

and his prayer here that we are seeing this morning were

preserved by God. The father has requested by

Christ, the son confirmed by the indwelling holy spirit that

lives in each of us confirming. Guaranteeing that we have a

redemption in store for us in an inheritance in store for us for

all eternity just as the word of God promises.

What a picture of the Triune godhead.

Completing the work in accordance with the prayer of

Jesus. In John chapter 17, he said

father protect them, preserve them.

The father done. Protect them by your name,

protect them by my name. And then he sends his

indwelling, holy spirit to live in us to show us and his prayer

was answered on thankful for the holy spirit this morning and my

life who confirms over and over and over again.

It doesn't matter what I feel. What matters is what I am

according to the word of God. And I am a born-again

blood-bought redeemed, adopted child of the most high God

through Jesus Christ. Our Lord, he gives us great

security and this prayer as he prays that his followers would

be protected and preserved. And then, in the last couple of

verses, I want you to see this This is also an intercessory

prayer. For sanctification for

sanctification sanctification. For his own 417, says this

sanctify them who his own? He still talking about those,

the father has given him sanctify them by thy truth.

Your word is truth as you sent me into the world.

I have sent them into the world for them.

I sanctify myself that they too may be truly Sanctified Jesus.

Praying that his followers would be distinctly set apart.

That's what, Sanctification means it means that you are set

apart. They would be set apart from the

wicked unbelieving world that they live in.

Then he goes on to praise specifically how they would be

set apart. He says sanctify them by truth.

Set them apart. My truth.

And then he says she word is truth.

How is the Believers set? Apart from the world through the

word? He says sanctify them by the

word because that's truth again, Sanctified being specifically,

set apart for God and His glory and his gospel through obedience

in Christ. It's the word that sets us

apart. It's the word that makes us

different. It is the word that finds us

like fire. It is the word that changes us

from the inside out. It is the word that renews our

minds daily. If you're not being transformed

by God's word, there is a good chance that you're not being

Sanctified because you are not Sanctified and if you're not

being Sanctified, there's a good chance that you're not truly

saved. Is the one that hurts my

feelings? I'm not here to hurt your

feelings. I'm here to cause you to examine

your life. Are you being set apart by the

word of God? The pastor you don't understand.

I just don't have time and I just really don't have interest

in the Bible therein my friend, lies your problem.

You're not set apart from the world because you don't have

time for the word of God. And I take issue with a person

who calls himself a Christian who does not have a hunger for

the word of God. He said sanctify them by the

truth. Your word.

It's true. We can learn so much from the

psalmist on this issue. Psalm 119 verse 9 says this how

Psalms 119:9

can a young man keep his way pure?

How can a young man keep his way, pure all in this day and

time? How can an old man keep his way

pure? How can a young man keep his way

pure watch this by living? According to your word here, you

can go ahead. And you can reverse that By

living according to your word, a young man, keep his way pure,

but if he doesn't live according to your word, he's not going to

keep his way pure. Verse 10 says, I seek you with

all my heart. Do not.

Let me stray from your commands. Think the psalmist loves the

word of God. Don't, let me stray from your

commands. He's got a hunger for the word.

He says, in verse 11, I've hidden your word in my heart.

Why? So that I can be smart and do a

lot of things. No.

Watch as I've hidden your word in my heart, that I might not

sin against you. It's all misunderstood

sanctification by the word. Verse 12, says, praise be to

You. O, Lord, teach me your decrees

with my lips. I recount all the laws that come

from your mouth. I rejoice in following your

statutes as one, rejoices, and great riches.

I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.

I Delight in your decrees, I will not neglect your word.

Why did he not want to neglect his work?

He knew that the word is truth, and that the word is the key to

True sanctification. Why?

Because Jesus prayed it in John, chapter 17, Word is truth.

John 17 · chapter mention

We are to be set apart by that true Force.

Peter. 1:22 says, now that you have purified yourselves by

obeying the truth, so that you have sincere love for your

brothers. Love one, another deeply from

the heart for you. Have been born again, not of

perishable seed. But of in perishable through the

living and enduring word of God, watch what he continues to say

for all men like grass are like grass and all their glory is

like the flowers of the field. The grass withers.

The flowers fall but the word of the Lord stands forever.

He quotes from The Prophet there.

And he goes on to say this and this is the word that was

preached to you and you usually stop there because you think

it's the end of a chapter but keep reading because there's

more in Chapter 2. Therefore therefore what?

Therefore, because he has given us the living and enduring word

of God that has redeemed us, watch what he says, next.

Therefore, rid yourself of all malice and all deceit,

hypocrisy, envy and slander of every kind like newborn babies

crave, pure spiritual milk. Milk.

So that by it you may grow up in your salvation.

Now that you have tasted that the Lord is good, I dare you get

in his word and taste and see how good the Lord is and watch

when you do how he grows you up. Spiritually.

This is word that sets us apart of his, his word that sanctifies

us. The true disciple of Christ will

be set apart by the word. In fact, Ephesians chapter 5,

Ephesians 5 · chapter mention

talks of the church being Washed by the Water through the word.

When he's talking about the husband-and-wife relationship in

regard to the relationship of Christ and his church, it is the

word that sanctifies us and cleanses us and sets us apart

the True Believer, hungers for the word, the True Believer

wants to sit under the preaching of the word.

The True Believer wants to join a Bible study the truth Ever

wants to join a research group. The True Believer wants to be

discipled. He wants to learn, she wants to

learn. Growth is something they desire.

Why? Because Jesus prayed it in John,

John 17 · chapter mention

chapter 17. That the father would sanctify

the True Believers by his word. If you're indifferent toward the

word of God, you have no interest in the word of God.

It's not that. I doubt your salvation.

It's that you should. You should.

You should really test yourself and say, wait a second.

I have no desire for the word of God.

And Jesus prayed at his own would be Sanctified by truth.

I can't be Sanctified by truth, which is the word if I have no

desire for the word. Perhaps you have no desire for

the word because you don't truly know Christ.

I would encourage you to repent and turn to Christ today.

Cry out to him to rescue your wretched soul.

You would be saved and that you would be Sanctified.

We're Sanctified by the word as Jesus praise here.

But he also praised that through the word at sanctifying them,

that they would be Sanctified, not just by the word, but

Sanctified from the world Sanctified from the world.

It's interesting here. The same word that brings

persecution to the believer. Jesus is talking here and he

says that they hate you because of my word.

That same word that brings persecution to the believer,

will also bring protection to the believer.

The world is going to hate you because you stand in the world

word over and over and over again.

We see that in scripture. Let me give you a warning.

If the Believers Are hated by the unbelievers.

Because the unbelievers hate the word of God.

It's according to scripture, he said that is what is going to

happen. Jesus even told his disciples.

Remember the hated me first? Why do they hate cry?

So much? The word that came from his

mouth. The truth, wh the truth Jesus

praying here, that we would as Believers be Sanctified by the

word. So that we will be Sanctified

from the world set apart. Wholly different.

Knowledge and submission to God's word in the life of a

believer. Is what should and will

distinguish us from this lost and sinful world.

If you look just like the world, if you act just like the world,

if you talk just like the world, you use their same language you

and take the same substances that they enjoy.

You've not yet been set apart from the World by the word.

You have a spiritual issue here and I would say work out your

salvation with fear and trembling see if you truly do

know Christ, Because I believe this, I believe that Christ

prayer didn't fail here. Some of you call yourselves a

Believer, you think Christ's prayer fell because you're not

Sanctified by the word. You're not Sanctified from the

world and you think somehow Christ's prayer failed.

It didn't Remember who he's praying for.

He's praying for the True Believer so we can come to this

conclusion. The True Believer will be

Sanctified set apart by the word and the True Believer will be

Sanctified and set apart from the world.

The apostles agree with this. In fact, they teach it, they

lived it and we are to be Sanctified from the world.

Second Corinthians chapter 6, The Apostle.

2 Corinthians 6 · chapter mention

Paul in this discourse, watch what he says, verse 14 do now

Not be yoked together with unbelievers.

Who are the unbelievers the world?

It is a synonymous term. For what do righteousness and

wickedness have in common? Or what Fellowship can light

have with Darkness. What Harmony is there between

Christ and Belial? What does a Believer have in

common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between

the temple of God and Idols for we are the Temple of the Living.

God, I told you a moment ago, the True Believer has the

indwelling, Holy Spirit living in them.

They are the temple of God. He's saying what is the true

temple of God have in common with all of this wickedness from

the world? As God has said, I will live

with them and walk among them, and I will be their God and they

will be my people watch. What verse 17 says, pay

attention. When you see a therefore in

scripture of everything that you read, just before that, he says,

therefore come out from them who the unbelievers the world,

therefore come out from them and be separate says the Lord.

Sanctification is not optional for the True Believer and

follower of Christ. Sanctification is evidence that

you are a True Believer. You will be Sanctified by the

word and you will be Sanctified set apart from the world.

Why? Because Jesus prayed that his

own would, now we can come to this conclusion, if you're not,

it could be. That is because you are not his

his own. You look like the world and you

act like the world and you talk like the world, you do as the

world does. say, whatever you want to say, you're the world.

Stop being foolish. If you don't look different from

the world. Because of God's word, you are

not Sanctified, you cannot continue in friendship with the

world and think that you have an intimate communion with God,

friendship with the world. According to what James wrote is

emnity toward God, John said, this John said you can't love

the world. And love the father that if you

love the world, the love of the father is not in you.

I have preached this for years and I have not made many friends

because of it and I am thankful that I'm not here to make

friends, but I am here to Make Disciples of Christ.

A disciple of Christ cannot hold onto the world with their left

hand and hold onto Christ with their right hand and think that

this is the biblical Christ that they are holding onto.

This is a make-believe non-biblical non-Christian

Christ. Because the True Believer as

Christ Just prayed. Will be Sanctified by the word

and Sanctified set apart from the world.

There will be a distinct difference, he is marking his

own out, and he is separating them, even at this moment.

If there's never been a change in your life, You have not yet

been born again. For if you are in Christ, you

are a new creation. I don't think that the word can

be erased and changed to fit your life.

Are you a new creation? He said sanctify them by the

truth. Your word is truth and then he

prayed that they would be Sanctified from this world The

world that does and looks and speaks and acts.

Contrary to the word of God. He says you're going to be

different than that. Can I ask you just a common

sense question while we're on that subject?

Why would Jesus save you just so you can be what you've always

been? Wouldn't that be a pointless

death when that be for nothing? But, you know, that's not what

scripture? Teaches scripture teaches that

Jesus died. So, that you could be changed

and transformed so that the Lost World could see that

transformation. And know that God has done a

work in your life, that brings us to the next part,

sanctification here. He's praying for sanctification

that we would be Sanctified by the word is Sanctified from the

world and then Sanctified to reach the world Sanctified in

order to effectively reach the world.

With the gospel, we're set apart by the word set apart from the

world so that the world will see that we are different.

Something different about us if you look, And talk and act just

like the rest of your coworkers. And claimed to have Christ.

They see no need for Christ. Well that's just pure basic

Common Sense, isn't it? But did you know the True

Believer who is set apart by the word and set apart from the

world? Scripture tells us that the

world will inquire of the hope that we have in Christ.

They're going to see when that situation comes in our life that

they would be moaning and groaning complaining and

cussing. Swearing about That in our life,

we handled it completely different.

Why? Because we handle it, according

to the word why we've been set apart by the word.

We handle it opposite of how the world would handle it.

They'll take note of that they're going to come to you and

there and some of you have walked with Christ long enough

to know that this is true. They're going to come to you and

they're going to say, why did you handle that?

That way. That's not how I would have

handled it. What's going on?

I knew you before and you wouldn't have always handled it

that way. Then there you can declare to

them. The reason that I handle it this

way is because I now belong to Jesus Christ.

He has saved me. Yes, changed me is done a work

in my life. I am no longer the creature that

I used to be full of sin and full of self.

I have been redeemed. I have been set apart and

Sanctified for the glory of God in any good.

You see in me, that is Christ. Give him all the credit that he

deserves. And share the gospel with them

that they might believe. Sanctified to reach the world.

Why is it important that we hear this prayer of Jesus?

He prayed at his own, Would be people of the word and people

opposite of the world. So that through them and the

message of Christ that they preached, he could then continue

to draw others out of the world. Isn't that the way that he

designed it to work? How will they know less the

preacher tell them and how can a preacher be effective if he's

just like them? All of you say, well praise the

Lord, I'm not called to preach. You're all called to preach the

gospel. Just because you don't stand in

the pulpit and preach, it doesn't mean that you're not

called to preach the gospel. You were called to tell everyone

with every breath that you have the Glorious.

Good news of Jesus Christ. He's offering here prayer of

sanctification that they would be Sanctified by the word

Sanctified from the world and Sanctified to reach this Lost

World. What a beautiful prayer we see

here in John's gospel, You know that as Jesus was just ours.

Away from the cross. His mind at this place was not

on what he had to endure. He was praying that his own

would be saved secured and Sanctified saved, secured and

Sanctified in. Aren't you thankful that?

That's what he does in the lives of those who are truly, his The

prayer of Jesus. Didn't go on answer.

Aren't you thankful for that this morning?

I'm thankful in my life at the prayer of Jesus.

Didn't go unanswered. That in eternity past, the

father gave me to the Sun and he made sure that I was saved

secured and sanctified. Jesus prayers.

Didn't go on answer. Let's close with this a true

disciple. A true disciple.

Will. They will know the father and

the son, intimately through the communion, that Jesus died for

the believer to have, that's his prayer that they would be saved.

That they would experience that true communion you have this in

your life. Do you have communion with the

father and with the son? Do you have that deep

fellowship? If you're a Believer here today,

I'm not telling you something that you don't know anything

about. You know, you can testify.

Yes, I do have that. You can sing.

As the old hymn says Andy walks with me, and he talks with me

along, life's narrow way. Yes, I have that communion with

him because of Christ. Do you have that this morning?

Have you truly surrender to Jesus as your lord and savior?

Are you one of the ones here that he's talking about who were

truly his? Have you surrendered by faith to

Jesus as Lord and Savior as your only hope of forgiveness and

eternal life? Are you trusting in his cross as

the thing that cleanses you from your wickedness?

Are you still lost in your sin? Are you still of this world?

If you are, he wasn't praying for you here.

I'm praying for you now. I'm praying to God now that he

would graciously open your eyes that you would see your need for

Christ and that he would graciously save you this very

morning. Raps, you are in Christ.

No, this a true disciple will be secured forever. because of the

preservation that Jesus prayed for right here in John, chapter

John 17 · chapter mention

17, Well, good news. We have there.

Why am I preserved forever? Is it?

Because I'm good now and I get it.

All right. No, in my flesh.

I'm still as rotten as I've ever been.

I am preserved by the goodness of the Lord Jesus Christ.

By the power of the Father, by the position of the sun proven

by the indwelling, Holy Spirit who lives in me until that day,

that I longed for where I'm glorified and redeemed eternally

because of Jesus Christ in the price that he paid on my behalf

on the tree of calvary. Be secure in that believer.

Rest in that. Walking Insurance.

Always that Christ prayed in John chapter 17.

For his own. And if you're his own, you will

be secure forever. I make no apologies for that.

A person who wants to believe in a doctrine that contradicts that

believes that Jesus didn't know how to pray.

I'm here to tell you today. Jesus knew exactly how to pray

because he knew this guy would mess it up if I could.

And he prayed that I wouldn't And I can't.

True disciple. We'll find security in Christ

and Christ Alone. In the sprayer that we've seen

today. A true disciple will be

Sanctified by the word. Is the word sanctifying you?

Is it changing you? How do you leave men's bible

study on Thursday night? Challenged and changed.

By what you hear motivated to share the gospel motivated to

live a life that brings God glory pretty leaving in

different. An apathetic attitude.

A True Believer. He's going to be Sanctified

through the word and they're going to love his word, just as

the psalmist in Psalm 119. Ramada, Tate it on it.

Day and night. Are you being Sanctified is God,

setting you apart? For his glory.

And for his gospel will be encouraged today by the prayer

of Jesus. If you were a Believer here

today, Because you're not a Believer here today.

I pray that God would graciously save you.

As you cry out to him this hour. as you cry out to him, the only

one Who can rescue center from hell and judgment.

Let's pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus, we

thank you for your word. Lord.

How beautiful are your words to us who are in Christ?

To see your heart. For your own.

Causes me to worship and adore, you even all the more.

Thank you for being gracious and compassionate savior.

God, I pray for those who are not saved in the in our midst,

Even This Moment. God, I pray that you would be

gracious to them and save them today.

Draw them out of Darkness into your Marvelous Light.

Regenerating them to the power of your holy spirit, that they

would believe forsaking, all sin and self and turning to you

Lord, Jesus as Lord and savior of their life today.

But your will be done as we yield to your Holy Spirit now in

Jesus name. Amen.
