  5. You. Have your Bibles, if you would

  6. turn to Psalm 119. I know that's not a shocker to

  7. anyone who's been here any amount of time as we have been

  8. walking through this longest chapter in Scripture, the 119th

  9. Psalm, as we have been on this journey about learning to live

  10. life in the light of God's Word. And I pray that we are doing

  11. just that. Today we come to the 73rd verse

  12. and we'll be looking at verses at verses 73 all the way to

  13. verse 80. It's going to begin as each

  14. section has begun with a letter from the Hebrew alphabet.

  15. And this one today is the letter yot.

  16. And that letter yot is interesting because in Matthew

    Matthew 5:18

  17. chapter 5 verse 18, Jesus himself said this, that not one

  18. yot jot in English or title shall be removed from the law.

  19. And so this is the letter that Jesus was talking about yot.

  20. And we know that's after this letter Yot is mentioned, there

  21. will be, as we have seen, this entire but 8 verses under that

  22. particular letter of the alphabet.

  23. And so we come to Yot today and we come here to learn and we

  24. come here to learn about a biblical view of God.

  25. And we need to learn this because we know that we live in

  26. a world full of relative truth, where God is defined by

  27. philosophy, intellect, God is defined by the world views of

  28. man, whatever those world views may be.

  29. God is defined by relative truth.

  30. And it's easy that way because if if God is defined by relative

  31. truth and not the absolute truth of scripture, well, God can now

  32. be perceived as anything that the perverted and sinful mind of

  33. man desires him to be. It stands to reason that in a

  34. culture where men can choose to be women, if they so choose to

  35. be, and others are then demanded to respect that choice, it

  36. stands to reason that this type of wickedness would be actually

  37. looking for a new or unbiblical view of God.

  38. A God of relative truth. One who we can simply choose to

  39. accept whichever way that we want to accept him, to make him

  40. into whatever it is that we want him to be.

  41. Or as many have done, the atheist who just completely

  42. denies his existence at all. That's the easiest way, isn't

  43. it, to just completely deny his existence.

  44. And truth to you is that there is no God at all, which is false

  45. and it's just relative to you. But we're going to see today

  46. that God has revealed in Scripture exactly who he is.

  47. He's revealed exactly how he works, how He loves, how he

  48. afflicts, as we talked about last week and we'll mention

  49. again this week how he judges, how he shows compassion, how he

  50. interacts with mankind. Aren't you thankful that we get

  51. to interact with our Creator and commune with Him?

  52. God's Word is expressly clear on these things.

  53. And so if we're going to have the right view of God, the right

  54. view of God can't come from relative truth.

  55. It can't come from your own intellect, your own philosophy,

  56. your own ideology. It can't come from whatever

  57. indoctrination you received as you came up through school and

  58. then into higher learning that God is just whatever, whoever

  59. you want him or her to be. If we're going to have the

  60. correct view of God, a correct view of God comes from the truth

  61. of Scripture. That is the only place that

  62. we're going to find a correct view of God.

  63. And we are going to see today that the psalmist understood

  64. that. He understood a biblical view of

  65. God, and in looking at what he writes today, we're going to see

  66. that. But the psalmist recognized the

  67. one true and living God, the eternal Creator, the sustainer

  68. of life, the wise counselor, the compassionate Redeemer of

  69. sinners, and the mighty conqueror of the hearts of man.

  70. He recognized him for who he is biblically.

  71. He's going to teach us how to do the same and I pray that you

  72. would adhere to what he is going to teach us today.

  73. Psalm 119, the 73rd verse. He says this under again the

  74. title Yoat. He says your hands made me

  75. informed me give me understanding to learn your

  76. commands. May those.

  77. Who fear you, rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope

  78. in your word. I know, O Lord, that your laws

  79. are righteous. And in faithfulness you have

  80. afflicted me. May your unfailing love be my

  81. comfort, according to your promise to Your servant.

  82. Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for Your law is

  83. my delight. May the arrogant be put to shame

  84. for wronging me without cause. But I will meditate on your

  85. precepts. May those who fear you turn to

  86. me, those who understand your statutes.

  87. May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be

  88. put to shame. Let's pray together.

  89. Father, we thank you for your word.

  90. We thank You that Your word does truly reveal who you are to us.

  91. Lord, we thank You that You have preserved Your Word so that we

  92. cannot be bound by relative truth and humanistic ideology,

  93. but that we can see the one true and living God for exactly who

  94. You say that you are in Your Word.

  95. God, I pray that you would use the Psalmist today who was

  96. inspired by the Spirit to write these things to point us to a

  97. proper and biblical view of God so that our worship would be

  98. what it is supposed to be. So that our lives will be what

  99. they are supposed to be. So that our eternity will be

  100. everlasting life with You according to Your Word.

  101. God, I pray that we would yield to Your Spirit as You change our

  102. views because what we may be skewed and we may be off in our

  103. wicked hearts. God, I pray that You would use

  104. Your word today to bring us back to the center.

  105. Show us exactly who You are and that we would worship You

  106. according to Your word for exactly who You are.

  107. That we would follow You and obey Your commands because You

  108. are the true God. But I pray for the soul who's

  109. here who does not know Christ, Lord, They do not have a

  110. biblical view of God. And I know this because they

  111. have not bowed the knee to Christ.

  112. They have not surrendered to Him as Lord and Savior.

  113. They have not repented of their sin as Your word has commanded

  114. God. I pray today that by Your mercy

  115. and Your compassion, you would open their eyes, change their

  116. view, awaken them spiritually to new life, that they would trust

  117. in Christ as Lord and Savior, seeing you for who you truly

  118. are. Lord, we'll be careful to give

  119. you all the glory and all the praise for it.

  120. Teach us now as we look at Your Word.

  121. Holy Spirit, we ask that You give us enlightenment.

  122. You teach us what it is that You would have us to know.

  123. And we pray these things in Christ's name.

  124. Amen. We see here the Psalmist giving

  125. us an example of someone who has a biblical view of God, and he

  126. begins illustrating this for us and what he says in verse 73, in

  127. the very first part of this verse, he says your hands made

  128. me and formed me. If you're going to have a

  129. biblical view of God, a biblical view of God recognizes God as

  130. sovereign creator. You can't have a biblical view

  131. of God without first recognizing this.

  132. And the psalmist. Psalmist rightly acknowledged

  133. God as sovereign creator right out of the gate, the one who has

  134. formed him by his hands. Horatius Vonner said this.

  135. He said it is nearness, not distance that the name Creator

  136. implies and the simple fact of having made us in the assurance

  137. of his desire to bless us and to hold intercourse with us.

  138. Bonner is saying this, that it's God as our Creator that actually

  139. brings us near to God. It's not as if he's creator than

  140. causing us to think that he's far from us, but that he was

  141. intimately involved in our creation.

  142. The psalmist understanding this when he makes the statement,

  143. your hands again, as Bonner says, assuring the fact that

  144. having made us is assurance of His desire to bless us and to

  145. hold intercourse with us, His desire to commune with us.

  146. It is by His hands that He has created man, giving evidence

  147. that from creation He desired to commune with us.

  148. If you'll go back into creation, you know that He spoke many

  149. things into existence, but not man.

  150. For man, he reached down into the dirt, and he molded and he

  151. crafted man, and he formed him into his own image with that

  152. special creation. We must recognize him as the

  153. sole creator and that is the first step.

  154. That is the first step in being restored to an intimate

  155. relationship. A communion with him is to

  156. recognize him as the sovereign creator that he is, Stephen

  157. Sharnick said this. He said we must first believe

  158. that He is and that He is what He declares Himself to be, and

  159. over and over again in Scripture He declares Himself to be

  160. sovereign Creator. He says we must do this before

  161. we can seek Him, adore Him, and devote our affections to Him.

  162. Charnick says we must believe that He is who and what he says

  163. that He is. Is that not what the author of

  164. Hebrews says in Hebrews Chapter 11 verse 6 when he says without

    Hebrews 11:6

  165. faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to

  166. Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who

  167. earnestly seek Him. First base is this believing in

  168. the existence of a sovereign Creator.

  169. The atheist in his foolish heart attempting over and over and

  170. over again to deny God is sovereign Creator, not the

  171. psalmist. The psalmist right in the

  172. beginning says it's he who by his hands made me informed me.

  173. Oh, it is the psalmist here recognizing God as sovereign

  174. Creator. If you truly recognize God as

  175. sovereign creator, you can write this down.

  176. You will recognize him as author of a creation.

  177. Again, the Psalm is saying your hands made me.

  178. Now why is that important? It's important because in

  179. acknowledging that we are agreeing with what happened in

  180. Genesis chapter 2 verse 7 and we're agreeing that this is

    Genesis 2:7

  181. absolute truth and what does it say there?

  182. The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and

  183. breathe into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man

  184. became a living being. It is God who authored the

  185. creation not of only all things, but especially of man, and He is

  186. the author of that creation. Now we all know this to be true

  187. in a worldly sense. If we were to invent something,

  188. whatever that invention may be, we are the creator of that

  189. something. We would then file for a patent.

  190. We would have this invention patented and we would have this

  191. patented. Why?

  192. Because we are the creator of that thing.

  193. We don't want anyone else coming in and and trying to state claim

  194. that they created what it was that we invented.

  195. God the same in His Word has made it very clear.

  196. He's laid down the patent over and over and over in Scripture

  197. that He is the author of creation.

  198. We need to recognize that. We need to recognize him as that

  199. author of creation according to the truth of the word of God.

  200. Not only do we need to recognize that, we need to Revere God as

  201. Creator. David in the 33rd Psalm says

  202. this. And verse 6, by the word of the

  203. Lord, where the heavens made the story host, by the breath of his

  204. mouth, He gathers the waters of the sea into jars.

  205. He puts the deep in the storehouses.

  206. Let all the earth fear the Lord. Let all the people of the world

  207. Revere him. Why?

  208. Because He is sovereign Creator over all.

  209. He is worthy to be revered. He is worthy to be praised.

  210. In fact, Jonah, that rebellious preacher there on his way to

  211. Nineveh and he decides, you know what, I'm not going to go to

  212. Nineveh. I'm going to go to Tarsus.

  213. And we know how the story goes, but Jonah understood this.

  214. In Jonah chapter one verse 9, even in all of his

  215. misunderstandings, it says this. He answered speaking to those

  216. men aboard aboard the ship that he was on, rebelling against

  217. God. I am a Hebrew and I worship the

  218. Lord, the God of heaven who made the sea and the land.

  219. Even in his waywardness, Jonah could not deny the fact that God

  220. is sovereign Creator over all. He is the author of creation,

  221. for all things were created by him and for him and through Him.

  222. And there is nothing that has been created that he did not

  223. create. It's God.

  224. We must recognize God rightfully as author of creation.

  225. In fact, in Isaiah, our scripture reading today in

  226. chapter 41, particular verse there in 28 stands out to me.

  227. The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the

  228. earth. He's created everything, things

  229. you see and things you will never see.

  230. The depths of the ocean, the extent and the expanse of

  231. heaven. He is the author and the

  232. mastermind over all creation. He is the author of creation and

  233. must be recognized as such, even though the atheist denies God as

  234. Creator. And why does he do this?

  235. Because he knows that the Creator is worthy of respect

  236. from whatever it is that He has created the creation and he is

  237. do this as the Creator. That's why the psalmist says in

  238. Psalm 14 that you're obviously a fool when you deny the existence

  239. of God, right? Because a fool has said in his

  240. heart there is no God. He's describing for us an

  241. atheist who's an absolute glittering fool.

  242. Perhaps you're here today and you wandered in under the radar

  243. and you're still an atheist. You are a fool and I am not

  244. telling you that. God is telling you that, and you

  245. are a fool because obviously when we look at the majesty and

  246. the splendor of all that He has created, including ourselves as

  247. humans, when we look at that, it is obvious that there is a

  248. creator and there is an author behind that.

  249. And who does Scripture say that that author is?

  250. It is the one true and living God, Yahweh of the Old

  251. Testament. We see Him as the author of

  252. creation, but we also need to recognize this and recognizing

  253. God as sovereign creator. And he's the authority over that

  254. creation. Just as I mentioned a moment

  255. ago, that person who gets that patent on that invention, guess

  256. what else that creator has? He has the authority over that

  257. invention, whether to mass produce that or not, whether to

  258. sell it to someone else so that they can produce it.

  259. He has complete authority over that which he has created.

  260. The psalmist understanding this, that God as creator and author

  261. of all creation has authority over that creation and he

  262. recognizes that. If you remember with me, in

  263. Psalm 24, verse 1, he says the earth is the Lord's and

    Psalms 24:1

  264. everything in it, the world and all who live in it, where He

  265. founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.

  266. What is the psalmist saying here?

  267. That the One who created everything is the authority over

  268. everything. Now let me just help all of you

  269. out. You don't have to acknowledge

  270. His sovereign authority for Him to be in sovereign authority.

  271. He is in sovereign authority whether you know it or not.

  272. He is in sovereign authority over His creation, whether you

  273. accept that or not. He's made that very clear in his

  274. Word. And so a person who has a

  275. biblical view of God will recognize God as sovereign

  276. creator, that he is the author of creation and he is the

  277. authority over that creation. And to deny God, who is the

  278. Creator, the authority that he rightfully has is foolish.

  279. This is wicked reasoning, isn't it?

  280. This is the reasoning of the unbelieving, to say, well, maybe

  281. God is Creator, but that doesn't mean He has to be an authority

  282. in my life. No, He doesn't have to be an

  283. authority in your life. Let me make it very clear for

  284. you. He is an authority in your life.

  285. And one day every knee will bow in every tongue.

  286. Confess that He is Lord and there's nothing that you were

  287. going to do to change that. He is sovereign over all.

  288. The person who refuses the right of the Creator to govern his own

  289. creation. Just simply rebels and refuses

  290. to submit to him in governing their life.

  291. He rightfully deserves that position, doesn't he?

  292. To govern our lives, to be our Lord and our Master.

  293. Why? Because He's our Creator, and if

  294. He created us, that we would commune with Him and He did

  295. whatever He had to do, even the unthinkable, in sending His only

  296. Son to the cross to die to reconcile mankind unto Himself,

  297. so that He could again commune with these things, these people

  298. He has. Created who wandered away into

  299. sin. It stands to reason that if He

  300. is the author of creation and He is the authority over creation,

  301. and He has gone to the extent that He has gone to that we

  302. ought to bow to Him as the authority in our lives.

  303. So if we're going to have a biblical view of God, we must

  304. recognize him beginning with the fact that he is sovereign

  305. creator. The psalmist then quickly moves

  306. on verse 73, the second part, not only does he recognize God

  307. as sovereign creator. Secondly, he recognizes God as

  308. wise counselor. Pay attention to what he says

  309. here. He says give me understanding to

  310. learn your commands. May those who fear you rejoice

  311. when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.

  312. The psalmist here now gives another mark of those who have a

  313. biblical view of God. And this biblical view of God

  314. recognizes God not only as creator and the author of

  315. creation and the authority over creation, but this biblical view

  316. of God recognizes God as an all wise counselor.

  317. Paul expresses this in first Timothy chapter one verse 17, as

  318. he gives a doxology unto the Lord.

  319. Now to the king, eternal, immortal, invisible, the only

  320. God. Many of your transcripts say the

  321. only wise God because he is where wisdom comes from.

  322. He says be honor and glory forever and ever, Amen.

  323. And we know this to be true, don't we?

  324. It's from God that we receive wisdom.

  325. It's from God that we receive true, unadulterated knowledge.

  326. We have to trust in this wisdom. We have to trust in the wisdom

  327. from the Scriptures. This is where we find wisdom

  328. from God. People come to me and they ask

  329. me, I need wisdom for this situation and I point them to

  330. scripture over and over and over again.

  331. Why? Because I don't want them ever

  332. accusing me of being wise. God is wise and any wisdom that

  333. I give to someone comes from His wisdom.

  334. And any true wisdom that we gain, we gain it from God.

  335. Everything else, it's just man's ideology.

  336. It's the wisdom of man. It's fleeting.

  337. We can trust in the wisdom from the Scriptures that the psalmist

  338. is doing here. He says, give me understanding

  339. to learn your commands. He said, Lord, I want to learn

  340. your truths. I want wisdom from you.

  341. I want to know what you think about things.

  342. Isn't it interesting that we ask everyone's opinion in the world

  343. except God's on most issues? What is your opinion on blank?

  344. We hear these discussions all the time.

  345. Now I want to say in every one of those discussions, why does

  346. your opinion matter or why do you think your opinion matters?

  347. Because your opinion, my opinion, our opinion as a whole

  348. does not matter. What is God's opinion on things?

  349. Lord, give us understanding in into your wisdom and into your

  350. knowledge. That's what the psalmist is

  351. saying here. Give me understanding to learn

  352. your commands. I recognize that you are an all

  353. wise counselor and I don't want to get my advice from just

  354. anyone on the street. I want to get wisdom and I want

  355. to get direction. I want to get advice from the

  356. truth, from the Word of God. That's where the psalmist is

  357. turning here, trusting in the wisdom that is received only

  358. from the Scriptures and knowing that true wisdom comes from the

  359. truth of God's Word. Deuteronomy 4 verse 5, Moses

    Deuteronomy 4:5

  360. says this. He says, See, I have taught you

  361. decrees and laws, as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you

  362. may follow them in the land you were entering to take possession

  363. of it. Observe them carefully, for this

  364. will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations.

  365. Now where were the people of God going to get wisdom and

  366. understanding from the word of God that was given unto Moses

  367. that he's now giving unto them? And he says, then they will hear

  368. about all these decrees and say, this is what the lost world

  369. should be saying. Surely this great nation is wise

  370. and understanding people. They are wise and understanding

  371. people. Why?

  372. Because they don't see human reasoning.

  373. They see the wisdom of God. They see the understanding that

  374. has come through His word. The reason that they're not

  375. saying that about us today. Is because many of us only pick

  376. up his word in our Lord's Day services on Sunday morning,

  377. never gleaning from his word as the psalmist was desiring here.

  378. Give me understanding to learn your commands.

  379. Let me open your word and give me the wisdom and the

  380. understanding to know what it is saying to me.

  381. He's trusting and he's gleaning from the wisdom of God, desiring

  382. wisdom for his life. Are you desiring that same

  383. wisdom from your for your life, from the word of God?

  384. You have it at your fingertips. You have access to it.

  385. Many of you hold it in your hand.

  386. What are you doing as the psalmist is doing here?

  387. Recognizing God is wise counselor saying, Lord, I need

  388. direction from you. I need direction from your word.

  389. He's doing what must be done to acquire wisdom here.

  390. Is that what James says? If you lack wisdom, you should

  391. ask God. That's what the psalmist is

  392. doing here. He's asking God for wisdom.

  393. And we know that James tells us this.

  394. God's going to give us that wisdom.

  395. He's going to give us that wisdom graciously.

  396. But are you asking God to give you wisdom and never returning

  397. to His Word to see the wisdom that it is that He has given

  398. you? His true wisdom is going to come

  399. from His commands, from His Word, just as the psalmist says.

  400. And so one who recognizes God as wise counselor will be trusting

  401. in the wisdom from Scriptures again, not just one day a week,

  402. meditating on scriptures every moment of their life.

  403. So the psalmist recognizing God as wise counselor, trusting in

  404. the wisdom from the Scriptures, but also encouraging others to

  405. do the same. See the next part of this in 74

  406. May. Those who fear you rejoice when

  407. they see me, for I've put my hope in your word.

  408. He's not saying that they can see me and it draws attention to

  409. myself. He's saying that they can see me

  410. and they can see the wisdom and the understanding that I have

  411. from the Word of God, and it draws attention unto the Lord

  412. and to His Word. This is what we ought to be

  413. doing. We ought to be encouraging

  414. others to do the same as the psalmist has done here.

  415. He said, give me understanding to learn your commands.

  416. We ought to be encouraging others.

  417. Go to the Lord and ask Him for wisdom to understand His

  418. commands. Go to the Word, Spend time in

  419. the Word. Find the answers to your

  420. questions, Probably the number one most asked question that I

  421. receive. How can I know God's will for my

  422. life? You know what they're asking

  423. for? Supernatural wisdom.

  424. You know where you find that? Not for me.

  425. Go to the Word of God and there you will see the will of God

  426. unfold in your life as you spend time studying and meditating on

  427. the Word of God. And so we see the psalmist doing

  428. just that, studying, meditating on the Word of God, learning his

  429. commands, seeking God's wisdom and doing that and then

  430. encouraging others to do the same by giving them that godly

  431. example that we all need. We need to be that example of

  432. one who trusts in God's word, who trust in God's word for

  433. wisdom, who trust in God's Word for understanding, who trusts in

  434. God's Word when something in the world happens, right?

  435. We wake up and all of a sudden, man, we're, we're bombing Iran.

  436. Just rest. Trust in the Word of God.

  437. Those people have been the enemies of God forever.

  438. They're going to continue to be the enemies of God until Christ

  439. comes and sets the record straight.

  440. Just chill. Where did I gain that from?

  441. Well, I didn't get it from reading Time magazine.

  442. I didn't even get it from watching Cnni got it from the

  443. scriptures. And in that I have peace and I

  444. have a hope in God's sovereign plan.

  445. And I want to encourage you to do the same thing when it when

  446. all chaos seems to be breaking out in the world.

  447. Let me just ask you this question.

  448. Do you believe the Scripture? God is sovereign, Jesus is

  449. merciful, and he wins in the end.

  450. Let's not complicate this. And so we see that all to be

  451. true when we go back to the Scripture and we do as the

  452. psalmist is doing here, receiving that understanding

  453. from the Lord and then being an example of someone who trusts in

  454. the Word of God. Are you being that in your life?

  455. Are you being that in the lives of your children or not?

  456. A question that we ought to ask. Are you teaching your children

  457. to trust in and to appropriate the Word of God?

  458. Or are you worrying about things all the time?

  459. Are you fearful all the time? Is your anxiety out of the roof?

  460. And we have to teach the word of God by our example.

  461. That's what the psalmist is saying.

  462. May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, when they look

  463. at me and they say, you know what?

  464. Not only does he know the Scriptures, that man lives the

  465. Scriptures. He says, right, put my hope in

  466. your word. They say this, He hopes in the

  467. word of God. Isn't that what the psalmist is

  468. encouraging us to do today, to encourage others by living a

  469. life of hope, by living a life of obedience unto the Word of

  470. God, encouraging other believers to do the same.

  471. We ought to be encouraging one another, as we're doing in this

  472. series, to live a life in light of the Word of God, to walk in

  473. it, allowing it to be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto

  474. our path, and encouraging others to do the same.

  475. The psalmist here giving us the second point, that a biblical

  476. view of God will recognize him as wise counselor.

  477. Thirdly, verse 75, he says, I know, oh Lord, that your laws

  478. are righteous and in faithfulness you have afflicted

  479. me. Oh, no affliction again.

  480. We had a whole message about that last week.

  481. We're not going to stay there long, long, so don't worry.

  482. I think we covered most of it last week.

  483. But he says, I know, oh Lord, that your laws are righteous and

  484. in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

  485. May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to Your

  486. promise to your servant. The psalmist here, yes, is going

  487. to revisit Affliction for just a moment.

  488. He's going to do this so that we can learn a little bit more

  489. about this. We can learn about putting our

  490. trust in God as our loving comforter.

  491. A person who has a biblical view of God will recognize God as

  492. loving comforter. He says, may your unfailing love

  493. be my comfort according to your promise to your servant.

  494. Why is he saying this? He's saying it in the context

  495. and on the heels of mentioning again the fact that God has

  496. allowed affliction into his life.

  497. So the Psalmist here teaching us that a true biblical view of God

  498. will recognize God as loving comforter.

  499. Watch this despite the situation.

  500. No matter what it is that you're facing.

  501. We're all good with saying God is our comforter when we're

  502. comfortable, but saying that God is our comfort is not the same

  503. as we are comfortable. Does everybody understand that?

  504. Because the American Church thinks that being comfortable is

  505. comfort. Now I can tell you this, I have

  506. received comfort from the Lord in the most uncomfortable

  507. situations that I have faced in life, and comfort as far as the

  508. world it defines being comfortable was nowhere to be

  509. found, but it was God with a supernatural comfort that He

  510. gives me from His love internally.

  511. This is what the psalmist is understanding.

  512. This is what he knows. This is what he knows, that God

  513. truly is who He is in regard to His loving comfort.

  514. He comforts us despite the situation.

  515. Even in affliction, in times of trouble, He comforts us.

  516. In fact, Isaiah 49 verse 13 says this.

    Isaiah 49:13

  517. Shout for joy, O heavens, rejoice, O earth, burst into

  518. song, O mountains. For the Lord comforts his feeble

  519. and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.

  520. What does that mean? No matter what you're going

  521. through, you can rest in His loving comfort.

  522. Isn't it good to have a loving comforter, one who constantly

  523. comforts us by his unfailing love?

  524. That's what the psalmist says. It's his unfailing love.

  525. It brings me comfort. It brings me comfort according

  526. to the promise that you've made to your servant.

  527. And where do you think that he found this?

  528. He found it in Scriptures. I will never leave you.

  529. I will never forsake you. And he rested on that, and he

  530. stood on that, and he knew that God's going to comfort him in

  531. any affliction. In.

  532. Fact, Second Corinthians Chapter 7 verse 6, it says, but God who

    2 Corinthians 7:6

  533. comforts the downcast comforted us.

  534. This is Paul talking there to the Corinthians about the

  535. comfort that he and Titus received from the Lord.

  536. And it's God who comforts us even when we're downcast.

  537. What is those moments that we feel his love the most?

  538. Many times, isn't it? And we go through the darkest

  539. hour. And His Spirit and the promises

  540. of His word embrace us with the unfailing love of God despite

  541. any situation that we face. He comforts us in our affliction

  542. and He covers us with His affection.

  543. Isaiah 54 verse 10 says though the mountains be shaken and the

    Isaiah 54:10

  544. hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not

  545. be shaken, nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord,

  546. who has compassion on you. Oh.

  547. What great promises that we can claim in Christ that he made

  548. through the prophets so long ago, that we can rest, that

  549. though the mountains be shaken and all the hills dissolve, we

  550. can rest in his compassion because of the covenant that

  551. he's made with us through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus

  552. Christ. We see that the psalmist is

  553. recognizing God as his loving comforter no matter what

  554. situation he's in, no matter what he faces, despite the

  555. situation, but also because it's declared by His Word.

  556. The Word has declared it, and it's time we, as professing

  557. believers in Christ, claim the things that the Word of God

  558. proclaims. Stop acting as if God hasn't

  559. said these things. God is our loving comforter.

  560. Second Corinthians chapter one one of my favorite passages on

  561. God's comfort. It says this in verse 3.

  562. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the

  563. Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us

  564. in all our troubles. Don't you think We didn't say

  565. some of our troubles, a few of our troubles when things get

  566. really, really bad. No, He comforts us in all of our

  567. troubles. Why?

  568. So that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we

  569. ourselves have received from God.

  570. Isn't that what the church is supposed to do?

  571. We've received comfort from the Word of God.

  572. That, that, that comfort, those promises that he gives us bring

  573. comfort into our lives. And then what are we to do?

  574. We're to turn around. We're to share that with someone

  575. else who's going through a similar time of trial or

  576. affliction, affliction or sorrow or suffering.

  577. That's how the body of Christ is designed to work.

  578. A group of people recognizing God as loving comforter and

  579. reminding one another of that all the time.

  580. Yes, brother, Yes, sister, I know that you're going through a

  581. difficult time. In fact, I went through that

  582. same thing. I got that same diagnosis.

  583. I got that same phone call. I went through that same trial.

  584. And let me tell you something, what I learned from the word of

  585. God. He is a loving God who comforts

  586. us in all of our troubles because He is the God of all

  587. comfort. Aren't you thankful that He's

  588. the God of all comfort? This morning the psalmist saying

  589. that a biblical view of God will recognize him as that loving

  590. comforter. Fourthly, we move on verse 77.

  591. The psalmist says, let your compassion come to me, that I

  592. may live, for your law is my delight.

  593. Fourthly, I want you to see this that a biblical view of God

  594. recognizes him as merciful Christ.

  595. Now when I say. Christ.

  596. I'm not talking about the last name of Jesus, as many of you

  597. think that that's just his last name.

  598. It's not his last name. It is the title of who he is.

  599. He is the Christ. He is the Savior.

  600. And when we talk about God being a merciful Christ, we are

  601. talking about Him being a merciful Savior.

  602. And the psalmist here is going to turn our attention to the

  603. only hope that any of us have. And what is that?

  604. God's compassion and His mercy. If God did not let His

  605. compassion come to us, and see how He worded that, please let

  606. it come to me. If God had not let His

  607. compassion come to us, we would all be dreadfully lost and bound

  608. for hell. But the psalmist here pleading

  609. with God, let your compassion come to me.

  610. I'm dependent upon you and your mercy and compassion toward this

  611. Sinner. God brought his compassion to

  612. us, didn't He? He brought his compassion to us

  613. Himself. It is through God Incarnate, the

  614. Lord Jesus Christ. Who came in flesh bringing mercy

  615. to sinners. This is why the deity of the

  616. Lord Jesus Christ is so essential to having true

  617. biblical theology. That is God Himself, who

  618. condescended and came to this earth to die in the place of

  619. wicked sinners, to redeem them, and to cleanse them from all of

  620. their sin. Matthew chapter 1 we see this

    Matthew 1 chapter mention

  621. promise being given and what is it?

  622. The promise that was taken from the prophet Isaiah and it says

  623. this in verse 21 of Matthew 1. She will give birth to a son,

  624. Speaking of the Virgin Mary, and you are to give him the name

  625. Jesus because he will save his people from their sins.

  626. Give him the name Jesus, which is Jehovah saves because he will

  627. save his people from their sins. It says in 22.

  628. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through

  629. the prophet. The Virgin will be with child

  630. and will give birth to his Son, and they will call him Emmanuel,

  631. which means God with us. The psalmist here saying, let

  632. your compassion come to me, that I may live.

  633. And God in the appointed time, honoring this, coming to this

  634. earth fully God and fully man, offering himself as a

  635. substitutionary sacrifice on a cross, so that all who believe

  636. in Him would be saved from their sin and live.

  637. He says, let your compassion come to me that I may live.

  638. I'm dependent upon this Lord. I need your grace.

  639. I need your mercy. Because a biblical view of God

  640. will recognize God is merciful Christ, knowing that it's he who

  641. brings forgiveness and pardon. And without His compassion,

  642. there is no chance for forgiveness and pardon for our

  643. sin. O may you all hear that this

  644. morning. May that be the cry of your

  645. heart. Lord, let your compassion come

  646. to me, because without His compassion you will never be

  647. forgiven of your sin. Without His compassion, you will

  648. never be cleansed. Without His compassion, you will

  649. never inherit eternal life. But it is in His compassion and

  650. a proper understanding of that that we see he brings

  651. forgiveness and pardon even to the most wicked and vile.

  652. Center the psalmist again using the word let, let, please, just.

  653. He's pleading with the Lord, let it, let it happen.

  654. I'm hopeless without your compassion.

  655. Let it come to me. God did not first will this.

  656. The psalmist knew he did not deserve it.

  657. Aren't you thankful that God has let his mercy and His compassion

  658. come to you? Because I want you all to know

  659. this. He was under no obligation to do

  660. any such of a thing. You were not entitled to His

  661. compassion. You were not entitled to his

  662. mercy. In fact, truth be told, you

  663. deserve justice and wrath and his indignation for all eternity

  664. and hell. But yet He has let his

  665. compassion come to you. Why?

  666. Because He's a God of compassion.

  667. And if He had not first loved you, you would never have loved

  668. him. Oh, let us be thankful that He

  669. is a God of compassion and let us see Him as such.

  670. Lamentations chapter 3, verse 22 says because of the Lord's great

    Lamentations 3:22

  671. love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.

  672. They're new every morning. Great is your faith on this

  673. Jeremiah there placing faith and a biblical God, a biblical God

  674. who is a God of compassion, bringing forgiveness and

  675. pardoning sin, showing his love. Ephesians chapter 2, Paul says

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  676. this. But because of his great love

  677. for us, God who is rich in mercy made us alive with Christ even

  678. when we were dead in transgressions.

  679. It is by grace you have been saved.

  680. So, a Curt are we really going to talk about grace again?

  681. Yes. If you haven't noticed, every

  682. week we're going to talk about grace to some degree because if

  683. God does not grace you with His mercy and His forgiveness, you

  684. will never be. Forgiven.

  685. So we honor Him for that, and we know that it is His grace and

  686. His compassion shown by that grace that allows us to live His

  687. great love for us. Because of that great love, He's

  688. made us alive with Christ even when we were dead, all according

  689. to His grace. So biblical view of God will

  690. recognize God as the merciful Christ, the merciful Savior.

  691. Who brings forgiveness and pardon?

  692. But not only that, who brings new life?

  693. Anyone. You're thankful for the new life

  694. that you have in Christ. Because I can tell you this, My

  695. old life was a pile of trash. My old life was detestable to

  696. the nostrils of God. My old life was blasphemous.

  697. I'm thankful that God has rescued me from that old life

  698. and that He has given me new life.

  699. That's what the psalmist says. Let your compassion come to me

  700. that I may live. God, I need you to

  701. compassionately spare me. Oh, and He has compassionately

  702. spared so many of us, bringing us to a place of new life, life

  703. that, as we've already said, was provided by God's grace.

  704. We know Ephesians 28 and 9. If we if we finish out Ephesians

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  705. chapter 2, for it is by grace you've been saved through faith.

  706. And this is not from yourself. It's the gift of God, not by

  707. work, so that no man can boast. There's nothing for us to boast

  708. and we have new life not because we woke up one day and say, you

  709. know what? I want to have a better life.

  710. I want to have a new life. I want to have a good life.

  711. Now you would have said any of that in that you would have

  712. woken up just like you did the day before and said, what kind

  713. of sin can I find that will bring pleasure to my flesh?

  714. But God, in his kindness and in his mercy, through his grace, he

  715. saved us by his work and his work that he did on a cross

  716. through faith. And that work and that work

  717. alone, the death, the burial, the resurrection of Jesus

  718. Christ, it's in him that we find life.

  719. That's what the psalmist is getting at.

  720. He says, let your compassion come to me, that I may live.

  721. I don't even know life. Isn't it true?

  722. The lost man's a dead man. He just doesn't know it.

  723. His true life is found only in Christ.

  724. In fact, John says this in his first epistle, chapter 5.

  725. He said He who has the Son has life.

  726. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

  727. First, John 512 Those who don't have Christ have no life at all,

  728. because it is the compassion of God, it is the mercy of God.

  729. It is that which Christ does for us by His grace.

  730. That makes us alive again. We don't just wake up one day

  731. dead and decide to be alive. Dead people don't wake up, they

  732. stay dead. It is God, through his mercy and

  733. His compassion, who quickens us to life and grants us the gift

  734. of faith to believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of

  735. God who died. On a cross 2000 years ago, who

  736. was buried and who rose victoriously over the grave?

  737. He gives us the faith to trust in Him, to believe that He truly

  738. is the Savior that the Scriptures have described all

  739. the way from Genesis all the way to Revelation, To know that He

  740. is the only hope for man to be saved from their sin and.

  741. But in that we receive new life, this new life provided strictly

  742. by God's grace. Many would ask, well, how do I

  743. know if I have it? Your life will prove it.

  744. New life will be proven by new desires.

  745. We see this in the psalmist here.

  746. He says, let your compassion come to me, that I may live, for

  747. your law is my delight. What has just happened?

  748. Won't I need your mercy? And I know it's dependent upon

  749. your grace. And in that he's changed.

  750. And now the Word of God becomes his delight.

  751. His desire has changed, a desire that desired only himself to a

  752. desire that now desires the will of God.

  753. According to the Word of God. Your law is my delight.

  754. I don't see your law as a burden.

  755. I see it as a delight. Oh, it's proof that He is truly

  756. received in new life. Because those who once delighted

  757. in sin and in the things of this world, and they receive the

  758. mercy of God through the Lord Jesus Christ, they'll no longer

  759. delight in the world, but they'll begin to delight in the

  760. Word. Why?

  761. Because they're a new creation. Just a second Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  762. chapter 5 or 17 says they're a new creation.

  763. They'll delight in the Word instead of delighting in the

  764. world. Now you have to ask yourself

  765. this question at this juncture. Are you delighting in the Word?

  766. Because that's evidence of new life here.

  767. That's evidence that you have received mercy and you have

  768. received the compassion of the Lord, that you have truly been

  769. saved. And if you have truly been

  770. saved, you will desire the Word of God.

  771. Let me help all of you out. If you're sitting here this

  772. morning and you're saying, I wish this guy would just stop

  773. teaching from this old relic, you have a spiritual issue.

  774. You're not yet born again. Because those who have truly

  775. been born again, they hunger after the word of God.

  776. It is food for their soul. Because they understand what the

  777. word of God testifies, that man cannot live on bread alone, but

  778. every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

  779. So if you don't enjoy learning from the Word of God, studying

  780. the Word of God, being preached to from the Word of God, you

  781. have a spiritual problem. It's one of two things.

  782. You're either lost and not yet born again, or you are starving

  783. as a believer. There's no excuse for you to

  784. starve around here. There's no excuse for you to

  785. starve around here where you have every opportunity to.

  786. Feast from the Word of God, where you at every opportunity

  787. are encouraged to study the Word of God.

  788. Some of you you haven't opened your Bible since the last Sunday

  789. service that you came to. You're not delighting in the

  790. Word of God. You're delighting in the Word of

  791. God only on a Sunday morning. That's not delighting in the

  792. Word of God. To delight in the Word of God

  793. means that you delight in the Word of God constantly, that you

  794. meditate on His commands, His precepts, His law, His promises,

  795. over and over and over and over again to the day that the Lord

  796. calls you home. Why?

  797. Because that's evidence of a changed life.

  798. You used to not do that. All you thought about was the

  799. world and how you can succeed in the world's eyes and how you can

  800. fulfill whatever fleshly desires that you had.

  801. But now, because you have truly been born again, you desire the

  802. Word of God. You crave it like that pure

  803. spiritual milk that the Scripture talks about.

  804. Then after you feast from that milk, that's not enough.

  805. Why? Because when you taste and see

  806. that the Lord is good, you want more of Him.

  807. And now you want meat. And I'm so thankful for a

  808. congregation who can eat the meat from the Word of God

  809. because I've been in so many places where if you preach for

  810. over 15 minutes, they were done because it was just way too much

  811. for them to handle. And I say this to them as kindly

  812. and as lovingly as I know how. You're either lost or you're OK

  813. with being malnourished spiritually, and either one of

  814. them is a major spiritual problem, and you need to turn to

  815. Christ. Today.

  816. You see the psalmist recognizing God is merciful Christ bringing

  817. forgiveness and pardon, bringing new life, and that new life

  818. being evidenced by a new desire for the Word of God.

  819. Your law is my delight because one, when they received mercy

  820. from God, they received new life.

  821. They value the word of God, they value scriptures.

  822. So biblical view of God will recognize God as merciful Christ

  823. biblically moves to the fifth point this morning.

  824. Verse 78 says, May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me

  825. without cause, but I will meditate on your precepts.

  826. May those who fear you turn to me, those who understand your

  827. statutes, may my heart be blameless toward your decrees

  828. that I may not be put to shame. A biblical view of God

  829. recognizes God as mighty conqueror and the psalmist here

  830. is doing nothing wrong. But I want to make very clearly

  831. what is going on here because many people in in our mamby

  832. pamby weak society would say, wow, can you really even do

  833. this? The psalmist is praying to God

  834. against his enemies. Make no mistake about that.

  835. He is turning them over to the Lord.

  836. He is praying against them. And he's doing this instead of

  837. taking matters into his own hands and seeking vengeance by

  838. the sword. And let me just assure you this,

  839. the psalmist knew how to wield the sword.

  840. History proves it. Scripture proves it.

  841. But here he's not because he has been changed.

  842. He's not considering those things.

  843. What he is doing is he's trusting God to conquer his

  844. enemies, just as God has promised to do.

  845. Isn't it true that God in Scripture has promised to defend

  846. the righteous? And this man of God was counting

  847. on that. In fact, Thomas Manton says

  848. this. He said malicious enemies may be

  849. expressly prayed against. Many of us have faced that in

  850. our Christian life, and maybe you haven't.

  851. But if you've ever pastored a church, you have there are

  852. people who just are mean and malicious toward the pastor.

  853. Let me remind all of you, I am just as the delivery boy.

  854. I'm the mailman. Don't get mad at me because God

  855. has delivered something unto you that you needed to hear.

  856. But yet we know there are those people who are malicious and

  857. they, they bring accusations and they say false things.

  858. And again, I know what we covered last week.

  859. Blessed are you when men say all kinds of evil against you.

  860. I understand that, but there's a reality to it that it hurts.

  861. And when it hurts, you know what we can't do?

  862. And I had to learn this. And I am so thankful that I

  863. learned this because I have seen God work in this over and over

  864. and over again since I have learned it.

  865. In my younger years. I thought it was my

  866. responsibility when someone was maligning me to go and verbally

  867. assault them right back, because that's the thing to do, right?

  868. No, absolutely not. Every time that I ever attempted

  869. to do anything like that, I was so convicted and so broken that

  870. it led me to a place of repentance and confession.

  871. But. Now on the flip side of that,

  872. God has taught me what the psalmist understands here, and

  873. that is when people are malicious against you, you pray

  874. for him. And you turn them over to God.

  875. You trust God to defend you, and you stop trying to defend

  876. yourself. You know why?

  877. Because every time I've ever tried to defend myself, I did it

  878. in the flesh. Because when I tried to defend

  879. myself, you know what I am thinking for a second?

  880. That I have rights. I don't have rights.

  881. I died with Christ. I laid my rights down at the

  882. feet of Jesus Christ when I surrendered to Him as my Lord

  883. and Savior. Now He has the right to defend

  884. me anytime He wants to, because when he's defending me when I'm

  885. right, he's defending himself. Because I'm standing in His

  886. righteousness, Not in the righteousness of Kirk Hall,

  887. because I have none. And so I've learned when those

  888. enemies pop up their head, those people who talk behind the

  889. scenes, that you, you're not fooling anyone.

  890. Someone rats on you. When?

  891. Those enemies talk behind the scenes.

  892. You know what I do? I just simply get on my knees

  893. and I turn them over to the Lord, and I say, Lord, if

  894. they're bashing me, rightfully so, I deserve it.

  895. And I could give them a thousand other reasons to blast me.

  896. But Lord, if they're blasting me as I'm standing in you, Lord,

  897. defend your name, Defend your glory.

  898. In fact, during the time of the 16th century, John Knox, one of

  899. the Scottish reformers, encountered a woman by the name

  900. of Mary, Queen of Scots. She was a devout enemy to

  901. Protestantism, and she once said this about Knox.

  902. She said, I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the

  903. assembled armies of Europe. Why?

  904. Because Knox would pray for his enemies.

  905. God would work on his behalf, and God would work for his own

  906. glory. Through Knox, through his

  907. powerful preaching, and through his prayer ministry on this

  908. earth, God used him in a mighty way, but he also defended him

  909. against all enemies that came against them.

  910. It's what was Knox doing? He was simply recognizing,

  911. trusting in God and his promise to conquer the enemies who come

  912. against us. Why would Scripture give us so

  913. much wisdom and insight into trusting God with our enemies

  914. and praying for them and turning them over to Him?

  915. And then we're not to do that. We are to do that.

  916. And in doing that, God will do what God is going to do, and

  917. that is to conquer our enemies. It's the one who biblically

  918. recognizes God, recognizes God is mighty.

  919. Conquer and conquer over our enemies.

  920. Psalmist calling on God in prayer to conquer the enemies

  921. who are coming against them, those who are afflicting him,

  922. those who are harming him. Those who are doing all this

  923. without calls simply because he's following God.

  924. Psalm 3417 the psalmist says this.

  925. The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them.

  926. He delivers them from all their troubles.

  927. The Lord is close to the broken hearted and save those who are

  928. crushed in. Spirit, a righteous man may have

  929. many troubles, but the Lord delivers them from them all.

  930. Oh, would we cling to that? Would we hold on that?

  931. Would we just shut our mouths? It's not getting involved in

  932. things that we don't need to get involved in.

  933. God is going to take care of us. He protects all his bones.

  934. Not one of them will be broken. Evil will slay the wicked.

  935. The foes of the righteous will be condemned.

  936. The Lord redeems his servants. No one will be condemned who

  937. takes refuge in Him. No one.

  938. So I encourage you to do this. When your enemies come against

  939. you, they're blasting you on social media, they're blasting

  940. you in whatever crowd that they run in.

  941. See them for what they are. They're arrogant and they're

  942. proud and they're wicked, and all those are synonymous in

  943. Scripture. There are those arrogant

  944. enemies, just as a psalmist is facing those arrogant enemies.

  945. What is he saying? That they would be put to shame,

  946. that they would be put in their place?

  947. And would you just trust God to put them in their place?

  948. You don't have to do it. He doesn't need your help.

  949. That's one thing I've learned. I God doesn't need my help for

  950. anything. I can simply just take Him at

  951. His word and trust that He's going to do what He says.

  952. And you know what? The truth always comes out.

  953. It doesn't always come out when I want it to come out, but it

  954. always comes out, doesn't it? He's always going to defend

  955. those who take refuge in Him. So in those situations, you know

  956. what you need to do. You need to examine your life

  957. and you need to ask this question by taking refuge in

  958. God. Am I trusting in His word?

  959. OK, I am. OK, I am.

  960. And Lord, I know you're going to defend me and I know you're

  961. going to take care of every bit of this.

  962. And I can tell you this, He does every single time.

  963. Every single time. He is the Conqueror of our

  964. enemies. The psalmist calling on God to

  965. do this. People would say it was he's

  966. seeking vengeance. Not for his name, He's not.

  967. He's turning them over to the Lord.

  968. And the Lord has said this, Leave room for my vengeance.

  969. Don't take matters into your own hands.

  970. He's simply just trusting in God to do what God and God alone can

  971. do. He's applying what we see Paul

  972. teach in Romans chapter 12. Do not repay anyone evil for

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  973. evil. Be careful to do what is right

  974. in the eyes of everybody. Chapter 12 verse 18 says if it

  975. is. Possible as far as it depends on

  976. you. Live at peace with everyone.

  977. I do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for

  978. God's wrath, for it is written, it is mine to avenge.

  979. I will repay, says the Lord. On the contrary, if your enemy

  980. is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him

  981. something to drink, and doing this you will heap burning coals

  982. on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but

  983. overcome evil with good. David simply turning to a good

  984. God and saying, Take care of this situation for me.

  985. Take care of it however you see fit.

  986. God knows how to do it best. Sometimes he removes those

  987. people from your life. Sometimes he removes their

  988. influence. Sometimes he changes their

  989. heart. Sometimes he takes their life.

  990. That's. All dependent upon God's will

  991. for that specific situation. But what you must do is you must

  992. trust God and not yourself in conquering your own enemies.

  993. That's what the psalmist is doing here.

  994. One who has a proper biblical understanding of God.

  995. We'll do just that, knowing that God has promised to defend US

  996. against our enemies. So we see one who recognizes God

  997. as mighty counselor will know that he's conqueror of their

  998. enemies, but he's also conqueror of hearts.

  999. We can't leave this out, he says.

1000. May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause.

1001. But I will meditate on your precepts.

1002. May those who fear, who fear you turn to me, those who understand

1003. your statutes saying and those who are in that group, or maybe

1004. they're saying the wrong things, but yet they are God fearing

1005. people and they've just been LED astray.

1006. Would you cause them to repent and to turn to me and to see

1007. that I am righteous and that I am noble and that I am not doing

1008. the things that others are accusing me to do and.

1009. Then he says in verse 80, May my heart be blameless toward your

1010. decrees, that I may not be put to shame.

1011. Look at David here saying this. He's saying conquer hearts,

1012. conquer the hearts of others. He's praying.

1013. That those who had had a wrong heart and wrong view toward him,

1014. that they would be changed. Isn't that what we ought to do?

1015. To pray for those who have a wrong heart, that they should be

1016. and would be changed? Luke 627 But I tell you, hear

1017. me, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless

1018. those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.

1019. David, praying for those who are mistreating him.

1020. And what is he saying? Lord, change their heart.

1021. If it is that they're God fearing people, turn them toward

1022. me and let them see the truth. Let them see that I am righteous

1023. because of you, and I'm standing in that righteousness and

1024. nothing else, but also His own heart.

1025. God is not only the Conqueror of the hearts of our enemies, those

1026. who may come against us, He's a conqueror of our own hearts.

1027. And boy, don't we need that. Why is that so needed?

1028. Well, we know this, that our heart is desperately wicked,

  1029. right? Jeremiah chapter 17, verse 9.

    Jeremiah 17:9

1030. The heart is. Deceitful above all things and

1031. beyond cure. Who can understand it?

1032. Our heart is wicked and we are in need constantly of God

1033. conquering our wicked heart. Christians so often forget that.

1034. They'll say stupid things like just follow your own heart.

1035. Please don't take the plaque off your wall.

1036. Take it back to Kirkland's. Whatever you have to do.

1037. Don't let anyone in your home adopt that false teaching.

1038. Don't follow your heart. Your heart will trick you so

  1039. fast you'll think you're right when you're wrong.

1040. Don't follow after the heart of God.

1041. Trust in God to conquer your wicked heart.

1042. Luke chapter 6 Lord reminds us how wicked our heart is.

    Luke 6 chapter mention

1043. We need to remember that. Sorry, that's Mark Chapter 7.

    Mark 7 chapter mention

1044. If you're taking notes, you're in Luke 6 going What in the

  1045. world? Mark, Mark 7, verse 21.

    Mark 7:21

1046. He says for for from within, out of men's hearts come evil

1047. thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed,

1048. malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.

1049. You don't want to trust your heart.

1050. In fact, you want that heart to be conquered.

1051. In fact, more than that, you ought to desire a new heart,

1052. that heart, a flesh that replaces your heart, a stone, as

1053. Ezekiel promised the people of God.

1054. You ought to pray that God would conquer your wicked heart.

1055. He. Would conquer your wicked heart,

1056. just as he conquers the wicked hearts of your enemies, and that

1057. he would move you to follow his decrees.

1058. Luke 645 The good man brings good things out of the good

1059. stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out

1060. of the evil stored up in his heart.

1061. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth will speak.

1062. O may our prayer for ourselves, just as a psalmist prayed for

1063. himself, that God would be our mighty conqueror even in our own

1064. hearts. Oh, it's easy to turn and to

1065. pray for the hearts of the wicked who mistreat him.

1066. But will we? Be honest about our heart.

1067. Will we be honest in prayer? The Lord have turned my heart.

1068. Make my heart blameless toward Your decrees.

1069. Let me walk in obedience to Your word that I may not be put to

1070. shame. Let me walk in such a way that

1071. even if they want to accuse me of doing wrong, there is so much

1072. right that they cannot find an accusation.

1073. I wish that was the heart of Christians in our culture.

1074. Lord, let us live such righteous lives that no one can bring any

1075. blame against us, that even if they were to accuse us of doing

1076. wrong, they have to be ashamed of that because they know that

1077. deep down there's nothing wrong in our lives.

1078. We are living our lives honoring the one who has conquered our

1079. wicked hearts so the biblical view of God will recognize God

1080. as our mighty conqueror. So we wrap this up and we

1081. prepare to close as we've been challenged this morning.

1082. That a true biblical view of God recognizes God as sovereign

  1083. creator. Don't forget it.

1084. That's where it begins, Seeing Him for who he is, the author of

1085. creation, the authority over His creation.

1086. Then it recognizes God as wise counselor.

1087. We need His wise counsel. We need His wisdom constantly.

1088. We need His understanding. From His word, every single

1089. moment of every single day of our life.

1090. Then a true biblical view of God recognizes God as loving

1091. comforter. We need His love and we need His

1092. comfort, and thankfully, He brings us His love in the form

1093. of that comfort, comforting us, leading us, and guiding us,

1094. shepherding our soul as that great shepherd that He is.

1095. We can agree with the psalmist in Psalm 23 that the Lord is my

1096. shepherd. I shall not be in one.

1097. I'll recognize God is loving comforter, and fourthly,

1098. recognize God as merciful Christ.

1099. Where would we be without the mercy of Christ had He not let

1100. His compassion come unto me? I would spend an eternity in

1101. hell under the wrath and the judgment of God, and rightfully

1102. so, because I would deserve every single ounce of it.

1103. Or recognize God as merciful Christ.

1104. If you have not surrendered to Christ yet in your life,

1105. recognize Him and surrender to Him today.

1106. And then lastly, recognize God as mighty conqueror.

1107. Stop taking matters into your own hands, shut your mouth and

1108. just trust God to defend the righteous.

1109. He always does and He always will.

1110. So did the believer. I asked you the simple question,

1111. do you have a biblical view of God?

1112. I told the man before we met, before we began the service,

1113. when we met out in the foyer. I actually told them, Some of

1114. you are going to realize that you have some ideas about God

1115. that aren't correct. I pray that God would correct

1116. those ideas and you can actually leave.

1117. You're saying, yes, I do have a biblical view of God.

1118. I no longer adhere to an unbiblical view of God.

1119. No, I no longer desire to have an unbiblical view of God.

1120. Everything that I want to know about God I know I can find in

1121. Scripture and there's where I'm going to find my answers for the

1122. unbeliever. You're still in an unbelieving

1123. and sinful state. And you're proving.

1124. That every single moment of your life.

1125. And you're proving that by that you don't have a biblical view

1126. of God. Because if you did, if you had a

1127. biblical view of God, you would repent of your sin.

1128. Why? Because Christ has commanded

1129. that we repent. If you had a biblical view of

1130. God, you would repent of your sin, and you would turn by faith

1131. to Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

1132. Why? Because God commands that we do

1133. so, and a biblical view of God was surrender to Christ as Lord

1134. and Savior. You don't have a biblical view

1135. of God because you don't value His word.

1136. You don't value his commands. You don't have a biblical view

1137. of God, therefore you're not reconciled with God.

1138. You have not been forgiven of your sin.

1139. You do not have eternal life, and unless you repent and turn

1140. to Christ, you will never have either.

1141. My prayer today is this, that you would cry out to God in

1142. desperation, asking Him to let His mercy and His compassion

1143. flow upon you today. That He would wash you and that

1144. He would cleanse you of all of your sin and all of your

1145. defilement. All the things that you've done

1146. in your life and said in your life that are offensive to His

1147. Holiness, and that today you would be restored and reconciled

1148. to your Creator. Would you see God for who He is

1149. today? Would you a God who loved

1150. sinners in such a way that He sent His only begotten Son to

1151. this earth to rescue all who would believe and trust in Him?

1152. Would you believe and would you trust in Him today?

1153. The trust in a Savior who went to a cross and who died to

1154. display the compassion and the love that the Lord has for His

1155. own. Would you surrender to that love

1156. today by surrendering to Christ, the lover of your soul, receive

1157. His mercy and his forgiveness and the eternal life that he and

1158. he alone as promised. Let's pray together.

1159. Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank you now for your word.

1160. We thank you. Thank you for this group of

1161. people who have endured the entirety of this.

1162. But I know that it will accomplish everything that you

1163. have set out in your sovereign plan for it to accomplish.

1164. Lord, I ask that you would draw sinners unto yourself for

1165. forgiveness and eternal life in Christ, that you would quicken

1166. them to new life and to faith that they would believe and

1167. trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior today by that faith that

1168. you've given them. God, I pray for the Saint who's

1169. here who's let all the indoctrination of the world skew

1170. their view of you. God, I pray that they no longer

1171. accept that, but they would wholeheartedly turn to Your

1172. Word, just as the psalmist has shown us today.

1173. They would turn to Your Word and gain wisdom and understanding

1174. into who You really are, and they would worship You properly.

1175. Holy Spirit, we invite you now to do what only you can do.

1176. Convict the hearts of men, transform them into what it is

1177. that you desire for them. And we pray and we ask all these

1178. things in the mighty name of Jesus.

1179. Amen. You have been listening to Key
