  1. Thanks for checking out the anchor Faith, Message podcast

  2. from st. Augustine, Florida.

  3. Now, enjoy this message. You know, I love being able to

  4. speak in the homebody where God has called me in place me and

  5. put me in the vision that I'm connected to.

  6. So I always appreciate the opportunity to do that.

  7. And tonight I want to start an Exodus 20 verse 1.

    Exodus 20:1

  8. For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you probably have

  9. a decent idea of where this is going because my last couple

  10. posts have been about what I've been studying because that tends

  11. to be how my creative stuff goes.

  12. So Exodus 21 through 6 says then God spoke.

  13. All these words saying I am the Lord your God who brought you

  14. out of the land of Egypt out of the house of slavery and you

  15. shall have no other gods before me.

  16. You shall not make for yourself an idol or any likeness Us of

  17. what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the

  18. water under the Earth You shall not worship them or serve them

  19. for I the Lord your God am a jealous God.

  20. Visiting the iniquity of your father of the fathers of the

  21. children on the 3rd and the 4th generations of those who hate me

  22. but showing loving, kindness to thousands to those who love me

  23. and keep my Commandments. All right, the first of the Ten

  24. Commandments was Thou shalt have no other gods.

  25. Gods. Before me or no other Idols.

  26. So tonight, I want to talk about stationary gods.

  27. Because, you know, coming off a couple weeks ago, Pastor spoke a

  28. great message called drive it out, and he talked about the

  29. flesh, right? He talked about how you have to

  30. conquer our flesh and you know, obviously I think sometimes, you

  31. know, we, we can think. Yeah, I got to conquer, my

  32. flesh, got to conquer my sand, but then we don't really look at

  33. all the things in our life that really take our time.

  34. Right? We don't really sit down.

  35. It's easy to kind of sit down, and like, evaluate yourself a

  36. lot and like, look at, like, the big sins, right finger quotes

  37. big sins, right? Things like everyone knows like,

  38. you know, I'm not supposed to kill someone.

  39. Shouldn't it be murdering, like me, I'm sitting out like, man, I

  40. gotta stop murdering people obviously you know like

  41. definitely you have to do that for sure.

  42. Right? And so we can get caught and we

  43. can sit and like oh I'm gonna evaluate my life and like well

  44. I'm not killing people so you know, like I'm doing.

  45. All right. All right, like I'm fine, I'm

  46. not killing people. But the first commandment God

  47. gave in the Ten Commandments was not.

  48. It's not murder. Which means in the list of The

  49. Commandments he gave that wasn't at the top.

  50. It was Thou shalt not put any gods or Idols before me.

  51. So what is an idol? Then write an idol.

  52. If get some definitions out here is Extreme admiration.

  53. Love or reverence for something or someone.

  54. Extreme admiration love or reverence for something or

  55. someone. or when something in your life becomes more important

  56. to you, than God, And I'll break it down a little bit further.

  57. Because that statement along can be like, oh well nothing's more

  58. important than God. But as we're going to see a lot

  59. of times, it's not that we instantly think these things are

  60. more important than us. Then God.

  61. But it's the things that prove out to be more important to us

  62. than God, right. You know so we have to keep an

  63. eye on where we put our time. Where we put our talents and

  64. where we put our Treasures, right?

  65. Because where you put your time, your talents and your treasure

  66. is where your heart truly is. Right.

  67. And it if we reduce God to Sunday and Wednesday, That I'm

  68. telling you. Now, you have an idol.

  69. If you only do God on Sunday and Wednesday, there is no chance.

  70. He's getting all of your time talent and treasure.

  71. I mean just just mathematically, no chance.

  72. Right. And when it comes to Idols, you

  73. know, because and this is what I love to do, especially when I'm

  74. speaking with youth because, you know, for me, one of the biggest

  75. things when I was in Youth and eat, even something I do now is,

  76. you know, the Bible, especially, like, King James and all that

  77. can seem like so crazy. We think idols, and I was like,

  78. oh, you know, there's like an idol, right?

  79. Like Idols, obviously aren't just like literal things that

  80. you're putting up at shrines in your house and like bowing

  81. before, right? Like, that's obviously, the

  82. go-ahead was like, Idols, like, oh, I have no Idols in my house

  83. and I Pure vital as well. Obviously, you probably don't

  84. have. I mean, some of you might have

  85. like a statue and then get rid of it.

  86. But, you know, for most people like you read, Thou shalt not

  87. have an Idols jeans. Any kind of check out.

  88. Like, I'm good, right? I don't have anything, you know

  89. I love an idol in my house, right?

  90. But obviously Idols aren't just things that are silver or gold,

  91. right? They could be paper or they

  92. could be something that's just in your heart.

  93. Right Ezekiel. 14 1 through 5 says, then some Elders of

  94. Israel. Came to me and set down before

  95. me and the word of the Lord came to me saying, son of, man, these

  96. men have set up their Idols in their hearts and have put right

  97. before their faces, the stumbling block of their

  98. iniquity. Should I be consulted by them at

  99. all? Therefore, speak to them and

  100. tell them thus says the Lord God.

  101. Any Man Of The House of Israel who sets up his idols in his

  102. heart, and puts right before his face, the stumbling block of his

  103. iniquity, and then comes to the prophet.

  104. I the Lord will be brought to give him an answer in the metal

  105. matter in the view of the multitude of his idols.

  106. In order to lay, hold of the heart of the House of Israel,

  107. who estranged from me, through all of the idol of their Idols,

  108. right? So God saying, look, when they

  109. come to a prophet or they come to me, I'm going to address them

  110. by the idols in their heart. Right?

  111. Idols are the things we put our time and value in, right?

  112. So when you put your time and value in all these things and

  113. then you come to God guys, like I'm going to address you by the

  114. idol, you have in your heart. Right.

  115. You know, I think this was timely because, you know, it had

  116. me chewing on it, coming out of Pastor series on the route of

  117. love, right? And obviously phenomenal series

  118. for everyone in the house, he was here.

  119. If not go to guest relations, there's a QR code that you can

  120. scan to catch up on the whole series, right?

  121. But it also got me thinking, you know, because we broke, you

  122. know, Pastor did such a phenomenal job, breaking down

  123. the route of the love of God, but then I was like well what is

  124. the root of my love? Towards God.

  125. You know, where does my love for God?

  126. Really lie. Because just, as we can turn the

  127. love of God into this big flippant thing.

  128. We can also take how we express, love towards God, and make it

  129. seem way, more than it really is.

  130. Right? Because it can be hard sometimes

  131. to instantly equate, how we treat God to how we love, God to

  132. how much we love God, when, when you have like an actual physical

  133. person here and like, me, and my wife Alyssa, I can easily equate

  134. my love for her. I can show it for her.

  135. She's here. She can see it.

  136. She can explain it. She can back it up.

  137. She can defend, how much I love her.

  138. If I go around and telling her how much I loved it, you could

  139. ask Alyssa me. Like does Chase really love you

  140. and she could tell, you know, he doesn't he never shows me once

  141. right. There's like an instant thing

  142. there, I go around saying I love God, all I love is God.

  143. Right. So it's a lot easier for us to

  144. just kind of like oh I love God but then if you kind of think if

  145. the way my relationship with God was with an actual person, would

  146. that person still want to be around me?

  147. With what God In the Flesh. Right here in our relationship,

  148. actually amount to a real relationship.

  149. Or am I just the needy friend who approaches when I really

  150. need something? And I keep them around because

  151. when I need something I want to know they're there and so I'll

  152. show them enough attention to make it seem like we're really

  153. connected. So that when I do come I feel

  154. okay about it. All right.

  155. John 14:23 says, Jesus answered them and said, if anyone loves

    John 14:23

  156. me, he will keep my word. If anyone loves me, he will keep

  157. my word, which means I cannot say that I love God.

  158. But not put all of my Time treasure and talent in him

  159. first. Because if his word says look,

  160. you can't have other gods beside me.

  161. You can't have stationary God's what are stationary guys there.

  162. Things that don't actually do anything but yet we think they

  163. do. Right?

  164. It's something you put on a pedestal and you think this

  165. thing affects you somehow, but it's really not doing anything

  166. for you. Right?

  167. And we can sit and try to hide that we've got something going

  168. on, but the truth is, God knows our heart.

  169. Right. Hebrews 4:13 says and there is

    Hebrews 4:13

  170. no creature hidden from his sight but all things are open

  171. and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

  172. Which means you can put on a show for everyone else around,

  173. but God knows where your time actually is.

  174. God knows where your time actually that, you know, I get

  175. to teach in Kingdom, astute. And I tell my students all the

  176. time the test is after this, right?

  177. You can show up here, you can check off.

  178. You read your Bible. Reading plan.

  179. You can tell me. You read the extra book for the

  180. class. You can give me an answer that I

  181. want to hear. So that I can say, yes, they

  182. learn something, but if you don't actually go apply in life,

  183. after then you've really failed. Right?

  184. And so if God knows our heart and it's laid bare before him,

  185. then you can go out and do whatever you want during church

  186. and Wednesday and at like you love them and be down here,

  187. praying. All you want.

  188. And worship and saying, Jesus, we love you and they not doing

  189. it again till the next service time.

  190. And then when someone asks how everything's going, you can say

  191. it's great. Oh yeah, you know, I'm all up to

  192. dama by replaying. I've been, you know, doing all

  193. this kind of stuff and they won't be like all great.

  194. That's awesome. But you know, you're not

  195. actually putting time in it. You know, you're not actually

  196. putting time in it. Proverbs 4:23 says, watch over

    Proverbs 4:23

  197. your heart with all diligence for from it flow.

  198. The Springs of Life, Idols in the Bible was one of.

  199. It's like one of the most talked about things to watch out for.

  200. It's gone from Old Testament. We're going to show you in the

  201. New Testament but it just continually carried to not have

  202. Idols. Don't worship any God before me.

  203. Don't Fall into idolatry. Don't let something be coming

  204. out. Why?

  205. Because we like, to think of it, idles as these big things, but

  206. the truth is Idols can spread across so many categories.

  207. They can spread across so many categories, and here's some new.

  208. Let's get some new testament stuff in here for you first

    1 John 5:18

  209. John. 5:18 first John 5 18 through 21.

  210. The Amplified version says, we know with confidence that anyone

  211. born of God does not have habitually sin.

  212. But he Jesus, who has born, who has born of God, carefully keeps

  213. and protects him and the evil. One does not touch him.

  214. We know for a fact that we are of God and the whole world

  215. around us lies in the power of the evil.

  216. One opposing God and His precepts.

  217. And we have seen and no by personal experience that the Son

  218. of God has actually come to this world and has given us

  219. understanding and insight. So that we may progressively and

  220. personally I know him who is true and we are in him.

  221. Who is true in his son? Jesus Christ.

  222. This is the true God. And eternal life.

  223. Little children, Believers dear ones guard yourselves from

  224. Idols, false teaching, moral compromises and anything that

  225. would take God's place in your heart.

  226. I like how this starts with, we know with confidence that we are

  227. born of God, do not habitually sin, but we who are of God, keep

  228. protect over and we can't let the evil one touch us and it

  229. gives you all this confidence but then still at the end after

  230. all that it says, but Don't fall into idolatry.

  231. Meaning, even with all of that, that you've got the ability to

  232. fall inside Dollar, Tree is still right there.

  233. Why? Because time can be wasted so

  234. quickly. Right.

  235. You, I mean, how many people lose track have lost track of

  236. time in such a way that you're like, holy crap?

  237. It's so late. Now, I'm here.

  238. When I first got married, Alyssa, got pregnant with our

  239. first daughter, London. And she was going would come

  240. home from work and then be like tired at like 6:30 going to bed,

  241. right? Six six thirty in the afternoon

  242. going to bed. Obviously I'm not getting in bed

  243. at 6:30, an afternoon. Like that's insane like this way

  244. too early, like what? So I'm just like, okay well you

  245. know, good night. We got married at guess what?

  246. 18 had her at 19. So I was still really young, you

  247. know, getting used to all the marriage stuff anyways, but she

  248. goes bad, I was like, you know, not great.

  249. I'm gonna play video games All right, I have some my own time.

  250. I can just sit here, I can play my game.

  251. She's asleep. She wakes up, we'll take care of

  252. that but like she can't get mad. I'm not losing family time.

  253. This is the perfect opportunity for me to jump into a game.

  254. Alright, so I start playing Been playing for a while now.

  255. I know I've been playing for a while but I'm just in there

  256. playing, finally get to the point like, you know, I'm kind

  257. of hungry. I should probably go get

  258. something to eat, didn't eat dinner, I just started playing

  259. when she went to bed, like walk-in to the kitchen, you

  260. know, the time, the house we're living in.

  261. Had like, you know, one of the kitchens with the, with the

  262. window right above it. So you can see the backyard.

  263. And so I grab something out of the fridge.

  264. And I grab some water on the sink, and I look up and the sun

  265. is rising. Now, I was like, I remember,

  266. just, like quickly putting down my glass and like running to the

  267. room. Like, I was going to get more

  268. sleep. So I like getting bed and like

  269. Alyssa is like, you just get a like, no, I just got up to get

  270. some water. My alarm goes off in like 30

  271. minutes. Ryan is like so quickly.

  272. It went from 6:30 at night to 6:30, like in the morning and I

  273. was just like, where did time go?

  274. Like I just lost time so quickly, right?

  275. Like even, you know, I went through a season where I started

  276. waking up super early to go to the gym, like five in the

  277. morning and then you get to a point where like, you know, it's

  278. Saturday and you wake up at 8 and you just feel like you've

  279. lost so much of the morning. Like my whole day is gone.

  280. Why? Because that time is really

  281. seems like it's amazing how much more you can get done in just

  282. that short amount of time, right?

  283. Then obviously when you enjoy things, you know how much longer

  284. like how quick they go by, you know, you get involved in like a

  285. good movie and next thing you know she's like over but then

  286. when you watch like a kind of crappy movie, all of a sudden,

  287. it's just like man has only been 30 minutes.

  288. Like, I feel like I've been in this theater forever, how are we

  289. only 30 minutes into this thing? You know, what is going on?

  290. All right, so time is this kind of funny thing but because of

  291. that, it's so easy to lose track of where you're putting your

  292. time. When I was in high school, we

  293. did this kind of like silly little thing, but it stuck with

  294. me and we had to draw like a circle and then turn it into

  295. like a pie. Slices like 24 lines, there's 24

  296. hours in a day and then like give you a crown like, okay?

  297. Now like how much how many slices worth of like TV?

  298. Do you watch, right? I mean, like, you color, and

  299. like the pizzas and you're like, okay.

  300. Wow man. 6 hours is a big chunk of this 24-hour, you know thing,

  301. right? You know, I won't do this in

  302. here because I don't think it would have the same effect.

  303. But, you know, every once in a while, I like to grab people's

  304. phones in the youth, especially and be like, let me see your

  305. screen time. Okay.

  306. I quiet people like wait. Hey yeah, it's amazing.

  307. How many people don't have the Bible app on their screen time?

  308. Like not even 10 minutes, not even enough to register.

  309. And then when you do it on a Wednesday night, it's even

  310. better because it starts on like Monday.

  311. And I remember one time I opened this one, one girl's phone and

  312. she had 48 Hours on tick tock. In three days, she spent two

  313. days worth of time, on Tick. Tock looks like, What?

  314. It's not like it's not you too but I don't just play in the

  315. background. Like what are you doing?

  316. How are you spending that much time, right?

  317. But time can go by so fast. And so that's why I think when

  318. it came to Idols, it was so important that they wanted to

  319. stress it because where your time is is where you value.

  320. And so you can so quickly start placing more time and other

  321. things, right? Because you always seem to have

  322. time to do the things you really want to do, but you never really

  323. seem to have time to start that others.

  324. Spiritual book that you were supposed to be reading.

  325. You know, I mean, I've done it myself.

  326. I'm not a huge reader. Like I really wanted to be like,

  327. I felt like it would fit like me to be like a reader to like

  328. travel somewhere, like, read a book out in like, you know, like

  329. in the land but that sure was like, I don't love it.

  330. Like I want to love it, but I'd rather just see the movie, you

  331. know? Like it was like the books way

  332. better than the movies. Like, you know what?

  333. But the movie can be seen, you know, when I have to just do it

  334. in my mind, like, it's fine, I've imagination.

  335. But, you know, I'd rather just actually see it.

  336. Right. But, you know, at the same time,

  337. you know, I can start, you know, like one of a book that I know I

  338. should read this gonna build me up spiritually and then it's

  339. like, within 15 minutes. I'm feeling like so tired no

  340. matter what's going on. I was like, I just finished a

  341. coffee, just had a Red Bull, like I'm ready to read.

  342. I've got the readings owned in, I got my glasses on and then

  343. it's like, goodbye, I'm asleep, right?

  344. But on the few occasions that I've read, like, just like

  345. random fiction books that I've enjoyed.

  346. It's like, you can get sucked into that thing, right?

  347. You find a good enough. Story.

  348. You can get sucked into something.

  349. I mean, I got like one book and I was like reading it and then I

  350. can always just bug me some like why can I not just get like this

  351. with this other book? Like I need someone to just

  352. write really good fiction books that are actually spiritually

  353. built books so that I just tricked myself into reading it.

  354. You're like I feel like that would work but no, there is a

  355. discipline that comes with it. Because that discipline builds

  356. us up. Because just like, with anything

  357. else, as I start to then read and get in the habit of reading

  358. and make it an important part of what I'm doing.

  359. Then, I actually start to look forward to it.

  360. I do feel like, man, this is a great book.

  361. I need to finish this. I'm learning so much from this

  362. thing. Like I'm getting this thing

  363. down, right? And so builds up that moat that

  364. mode of Romans, 18 1:18 says this for the wrath of God is

  365. revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness

  366. of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that

  367. which is known about God is evident within them for God made

  368. it evident to them for since the creation of the world, his

  369. invisible attributes, his eternal power and divine nature.

  370. Have been clearly seen being understood through what has been

  371. made so that they are without excuse for.

  372. Even though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or

  373. give, thanks, but they become became futile in their

  374. speculations and they were foolish and their foolish heart

  375. was darkened. Professing to be wise, they

  376. became fools and exchanged, the glory of The Incorruptible, God

  377. for an image in the form of corruptible, man, and of birds

  378. and four-footed animals crawling creatures.

  379. Therefore, God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to

  380. impurity so that their bodies would be Dishonored among them

  381. for they exchanged the truth of God, for a lie and worshipped

  382. and served the creature rather than the Creator.

  383. Who is blessed forever? Amen. right, so if we're talking

  384. about where we put our time, And we're talking about where things

  385. can become Idols. Like I said, I think it's always

  386. easy for us to jump into like big things.

  387. You know, we're always like, oh well, you know, if I'm murdering

  388. someone that's wrong, if I want to murder someone all the time

  389. and I think about it all the time, like I've got a murder

  390. Idol or whatever like, that's obviously wrong anything about.

  391. Like, obviously, I want to jump something like all the lust of

  392. money, right. Like just wanting money is so

  393. bad like it's greedy. You know you can't love God and

  394. Mammon, right? And those are like ones that

  395. just jump in big and that, you know, it's a bad one, right?

  396. But you know, Idols can also be things that aren't, you know,

  397. bad of themselves. Right, success is great.

  398. Until it starts. Costing you services.

  399. Right. Success is great.

  400. Until all you do is drive for the next success and you let all

  401. of your spiritual life fall behind chasing after worldly,

  402. success. Right.

  403. And we've seen this done time and time again.

  404. Someone gets a promotion like, oh, I got a new job is going to

  405. take me, you know, but I've got to go to Wisconsin.

  406. You like okay, well you is there a church over there is like no,

  407. I haven't found one but you know it's jobs a blessing like it's

  408. huge. Like is it?

  409. Right. But when success becomes an

  410. idol, it becomes hard to see clearly.

  411. That it's actually not a blessing.

  412. And this is why I think Idol idolatry was talked about so

  413. much, because they can be positive things that you just

  414. didn't start to Value more than God.

  415. Right. Family time is great.

  416. Why being with your family is great.

  417. But there's a lot of people who've made family and Idol in

  418. their life. You know, I love my family but

  419. my family raised me knowing that we don't skip church.

  420. It's amazing to me. How many parents just let their

  421. kids skip services. Oh well, they got practice, man.

  422. I played football. And I came to service late and

  423. stinky, because my dad said, hey, if you want to play that's

  424. fine, but we still go to church, because if you can make it

  425. there, you can make it here. Why it was value that was

  426. instilled in me that said, you know, there is it's just as

  427. important and half, you know, half these kids ain't gonna make

  428. it pro anyways, right? Like I don't even get it, I'm

  429. not gonna jump on it. That's fine, right?

  430. I know. It's a sensitive subject.

  431. Everyone loves their kid. Like, my kids, the most, I've

  432. never there's this real on Instagram and there's like, this

  433. is Mom. And she's like that boy right

  434. there, he's gonna be an athlete, he's gonna go pro and then the

  435. guys like about swallowing throws a Time.

  436. It's the kid in the face. It's like completely misery like

  437. that's mom's for you. You know, but we put our kids

  438. and all of this stuff and then we start letting a Miss service

  439. because of this stuff that requires it and then they don't

  440. come back to church after high school and we're like, oh man,

  441. why don't why are you leaving the church?

  442. Because you showed them that success, in the world was more

  443. valuable than the service time on Wednesday, you started the

  444. creation of an idol. And place it in front of them.

  445. Your health and fitness, right? Really important.

  446. Being healthy, being able to accomplish the things God has

  447. called you to, do is super important.

  448. You know, there be nothing worse than the find out, God's called

  449. you to do something and you just physically, couldn't do it

  450. because you didn't keep yourself in shape.

  451. But when never Skip Leg Day doesn't carry over to never skip

  452. service. Then we've made our fitness and

  453. Idol. And it's crazy.

  454. It's amazing. Like, you know I've never

  455. achieved just like a great Fitness level.

  456. I've just never gotten there yet.

  457. We're working on it, but I'm always Blown Away how dedicated

  458. those people can become. And in your like if you just put

  459. like half of that, turns towards the world, the word you'd be

  460. doing great. Right.

  461. You know, you got that person who comes to the party and

  462. everyone's like eating cakes and there's like birthday cakes

  463. everywhere and they just like stand there.

  464. They grab like a great and they eat the one grape me like I'm

  465. good and they Walker's like what who does that?

  466. Like I'm ever so it was like so discipline and walk up and be

  467. like a cake and they take one by the came back.

  468. That was good and not touch any more.

  469. Just like that's insane. At least finish the piece like

  470. how you just got to take one bite and be like, that's a great

  471. cake. I don't need anymore.

  472. Like do I make a thing of brownies?

  473. If the kids don't finish the Browning, I'm finishing, the

  474. brother that fact we made brownies other day, all the kids

  475. had a brownie. I had two brownies and then,

  476. like, the next day, there was one brownie left.

  477. I mean, are walked in from lunch, and I looked all the

  478. girls because the whole surprise said that brownie is my brownie.

  479. So don't even think about it. I know how these kids don't let

  480. me just have a bike for kids one by I have no brownie left.

  481. Right, you got sometimes. You got to put the hammer down.

  482. Like I baked those by right of creation, that is mine.

  483. You know, the people who get in the fitness, man, it's amazing.

  484. They put their flesh down. To keep themselves in a certain

  485. look that they want. But then when they're feeling a

  486. little off, they pulled something in their back, they're

  487. like oh you know back hurts. I could probably still do legs

  488. though. But I'm going to need a rest it

  489. so I can't go to service this morning.

  490. We're forming idols and we're not noticing it.

  491. Alright, friends are important. Until you find yourself going to

  492. your friends for advice before. God see, I love having good

  493. friends but I tell you this, when I go to friends for advice,

  494. I'm looking for either confirmation on something.

  495. I've already heard and for them to give me worthy of us is going

  496. to fact, the decision. I've already kind of got or for

  497. them to tell me. I'm stupid and what off, but

  498. it's not because I'm looking for an answer from them.

  499. It's because I'm, I think I have something.

  500. From God and I need that support of a friend with me.

  501. Right? But we can take friends and then

  502. we start running to them so much.

  503. That they become our God. Now, you might not ever say that

  504. oh I would never never. Oh no, never.

  505. Then you text your prayer to them.

  506. Dear so-and-so. What should I do?

  507. As a friend. Give good advice if you're

  508. selling spraying Lake and you notice it.

  509. You should be like, you know what, have you gone to God

  510. first? Be a good friend.

  511. Culture. Can become an idol.

  512. There's nothing wrong with having cultural influences,

  513. right? You can all be in cult

  514. influenced by the culture around you, the things you're into the

  515. the way you were raised, the places you were raised in and I

  516. think you should embrace where you were born but when the

  517. culture of where you are from is so much more evident than the

  518. kingdom culture. Then we made the culture of

  519. something an idol. I mean it's crazy to me.

  520. How many people can keep up with just like everything a

  521. celebrity's doing? You know it's like they just

  522. know they like got this person's agenda.

  523. Oh yeah. So and so they you know they

  524. started this company they wake up at 6 a.m. every day.

  525. You know, this is the thing about the new, the new wave of

  526. like social media. Everybody wants to know what

  527. someone else successful is doing so that then they can do it

  528. right. It's like, oh, that person's

  529. really successful and they're going to tell you.

  530. This is what I do every day, I wake up at six.

  531. Protein shake. Then I go take a cold ice bath.

  532. They say five minutes. I say no 15, I'm a 15-minute ice

  533. bath guy. Then another protein shake.

  534. It's 6:00. I've already had one day.

  535. You wake up at 2 days compounding math?

  536. Anyone seen that one? I don't even get it.

  537. I've lived so many people now. Giving advice.

  538. You know, I've always thought it was funny.

  539. It's like this person successful, they doing, you'll

  540. never be successful. Someone I was just doing what

  541. they did. You only ever make it where they

  542. made, if I want to be the greatest and have to do

  543. something different. Right?

  544. And we can get so ingrained in trying to like, it's amazing how

  545. many people will do, so much research and spend so much time

  546. in a subject and learn about what they need to know.

  547. I need to get healthy in the watching YouTube videos and

  548. they're watching all this stuff and they're getting all this

  549. information and then they don't apply a single bit of it.

  550. Well, we've all been around the person who has like the answer

  551. for everything, but has never actually done anything.

  552. Right. You're like oh yeah this is all

  553. you got to do it. This is what you're going to do

  554. right here. And then they don't, they're

  555. just going to tell you they're not going to physically do it

  556. themselves because then they would have to like, actually try

  557. it. You know.

  558. So if we're not careful, then we can start making Idols of just

  559. culture and routine and and all these goals.

  560. You set are great. But when the goals just push you

  561. further from God, then we start setting these worldly

  562. motivations at a higher place than our spiritual life.

  563. And see this, like I said, this is why I think Idols are so are

  564. so sneaky because they can be disguised as such positive

  565. things because like I said, you need to be healthy and fit.

  566. Right. You need to spend time with your

  567. family, you need to have a good base of friends, you need to

  568. love your culture, you need to seek to be better than you are

  569. and have success in whatever you're doing because God called

  570. us to be successful. You shouldn't be staying in

  571. settling for just garbage, right?

  572. But at the same time, if we just start pursuing any one of those

  573. individual things so much that it starts to pull us out.

  574. Of the source of our life. And being then you're going to

  575. get tripped up and lost without even knowing it.

  576. Another one is yourself. I mean, self-esteem, super

  577. important believe in yourself, that's great.

  578. You should, you should be confident.

  579. You should be confident in yourself, but when you stop

  580. trying to see God's truth and you just have my truth, Right.

  581. Well, this is my truth. Still lie.

  582. Right now, we got to be firmly set in the word.

  583. Matthew 6:33 says, but seek first, His kingdom and his

    Matthew 6:33

  584. righteousness. And all these things will be

  585. added to you having Idols in your life breaks, both of those.

  586. Because an idol in your life. Takes your first seeking.

  587. And it gets you out of alignment with God.

  588. So I can't say that I'm seeking first, the kingdom of God and

  589. his righteousness, but also be seeking first, something else.

  590. And the minute I start seeking first someone else.

  591. Now I'm breaking God's word to me.

  592. Therefore, I'm no longer in alignment with his word, so now

  593. I'm not put that back up now. I don't have the right to have

  594. all these things added to me. Because it says seek first, the

  595. kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these

  596. things, which means if I'm not seeking the kingdom and saying

  597. righteous, I don't qualify for the second half.

  598. Right? And if we go back in Ezekiel,

  599. when they're talking about look it's of your heart.

  600. And God says, look when they come to me, I'm going to talk to

  601. them based upon their idols. so that means every time we're

  602. going to God, when you have Idols in your life, you are

  603. cheating on God, and then bringing the partner to

  604. everything you do. You're cheating on God.

  605. And then bringing the person you're cheating on them to your

  606. prayer. To your services to your events

  607. to everywhere. You go rub it in his face.

  608. I mean there's real weight to that, like I said, I think

  609. sometimes, you know, we think God and is like, oh God, he's

  610. there. But if you were cheating on your

  611. spouse and then bringing that person around with you,

  612. everywhere you went. Why cuz First Corinthians 3:16

    1 Corinthians 3:16

  613. Says do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the

  614. spirit of God dwells in you? so, when I have Idols in my

  615. life, I'm trying to bring something that's not of God's

  616. nature. That's not of my nature.

  617. It's no longer my nature. Right.

  618. We're like aw man. It seems like a lot.

  619. Like I mean how can we really like honestly say like seek you

  620. like, obviously I work eight hours a day.

  621. Like, that's a tower. I'm not telling you to boil this

  622. down to Literal time hours because you have to work.

  623. All right, you got you. There's things that we have to

  624. do. But how do we spend then all the

  625. free time we have? But how do we also attack how

  626. we're working? Because do I go to work?

  627. And then just check out and it's just like, oh, my buddies are

  628. here, and we're cussing. We're hanging out.

  629. We're doing all this kind of stuff.

  630. Or do I bring this new spirit and new nature with me everyday

  631. to work. Right?

  632. Because if we're bringing these things around, you know, that's

  633. how we stay in this. You know, simple things can can

  634. change the trajectory of our lives so much.

  635. Now, I've told this story before how, when we had our third

  636. daughter, Scottie, we were in a busy season at the church.

  637. And so, I started to pray that God would multiply my time with

  638. my children and with my newborn baby that if I spent, you know,

  639. 30 minutes with her, it would be like, I spent three hours and so

  640. on. Because I knew I wasn't going to

  641. have as much time, but I knew I was doing what God told me to

  642. do. And so I held God, the look, if

  643. I'm doing what you call me to do, then you can't let this

  644. Relationship fail. Right?

  645. Because if I'm in your purpose, doing what?

  646. Then you're not going to let this relationship fail.

  647. And I held him to that and for those who know me and have been

  648. around me, you know, Scotty is like my buddy.

  649. She is like, like the closest to me, any of my daughters have

  650. ever been at. Such a young age.

  651. Right. Normally, when they're babies

  652. they want their mom, like they're all about their mom.

  653. And then it comes like a point that then I get to kind of swoop

  654. in and take that attention a little bit.

  655. Right? But from the get-go, Scotty just

  656. wanted to be with me, like, wanted me to hold her.

  657. Why? Because God honored, that prayer

  658. and that time, and even though it wasn't as much time, as I did

  659. spend with some other kids when they were newborn.

  660. He Amplified that it's those small moments.

  661. God can become so much more. Are you praying on your way to

  662. work? You know, what are you doing?

  663. When you have time start there? Start where you can.

  664. I pray in the shower all the time, the majority of times.

  665. I speak, I get half of them in the shower.

  666. You know I had read a quote from this this Rider wants and he was

  667. like look if you if you I set out to write, you know, one

  668. chapter every day. He goes in, if I ever get stuck,

  669. I should go take a shower, it was some days.

  670. I'll take 9 showers, he was, but I always get a chapter.

  671. And I not that that made me do it but it clicked and I was

  672. like, you know, I'm kind of like that for me like I just get

  673. stuff when I'm in the shower. I just feel like, I don't know,

  674. maybe it's the water. Maybe it's the lowness,

  675. whatever. It is things just start popping

  676. up. You know, I've written tons of

  677. songs in the shower. My voice sounds better in there,

  678. anyways. But it's about taking any time I

  679. can and how can I now make it valuable?

  680. Because like we said, earlier time is so easily.

  681. Lost Now, are we trying to actually be paying attention to

  682. our time? Because I'm just never been a

  683. big fan of when people tell me like they don't have enough

  684. time. because you do, Like there's always more time, right?

  685. You can always sleep, a little less wake up a little bit

  686. earlier, stay up. I mean if you just woke up one

  687. hour earlier and went to bed, one hour later, you've instantly

  688. got two more hours a day which is 14 hours a week.

  689. I've given you an entire basically days worth of time by

  690. adding two extra hours. Right?

  691. But the truth is it's not that we don't have enough time, is

  692. that? We just really don't value it

  693. enough to give it the time. Because when we truly value

  694. something, we will put time into it.

  695. You cannot say you love something but then spend no time

  696. doing it. Do you love the idea of

  697. something? A lot of people love the idea of

  698. God. They love the blessings of God.

  699. But they don't really love the relationship or they would build

  700. it. They would build it.

  701. Like I said, when we have Idols in our lives, we're letting

  702. something that is no longer our nature.

  703. Try to take over our nature. We're letting something that's

  704. not a bar Kingdom culture. Try to take plant and Who We

  705. Are. Because where you spend your

  706. time, you will start to identify with that.

  707. Where you spend your time and where you spend investment?

  708. You're going to fight for those things.

  709. Why? Because you clearly care about

  710. it. And if we don't take that same

  711. attitude into our relationship with God.

  712. Then it's no wonder some of our lives are such a mess.

  713. I mean sometimes it's just as simple as of sitting down and

  714. saying I'm going to evaluate the time I spend with God.

  715. Because, you know, things because and you can tell, man, I

  716. mean, you can really tell the more time you spend with God and

  717. in his presence, and in his word, you can tell things.

  718. Just start coming easier and quicker, answers, problems are

  719. solved things. Just start running more smooth.

  720. Right, when you're in it, you know, you're in it. and most

  721. times when you've gotten to a point that you're in it enough,

  722. When you get out a little bit. That becomes so obvious to

  723. something comes up and you like man.

  724. You know what I really haven't been in it enough, this

  725. shouldn't be a problem. It's not that we won't have

  726. problems but it's that we can solve them a lot quicker when

  727. we're in the word, right? The more we stay in the word and

  728. saying his friends were building up defenses.

  729. To keep us from spending time on things.

  730. We should because if I'm spending time in God's presence

  731. and in his word, that I can't be spending time, making Idols

  732. because I'm here. So, I'm building defenses around

  733. them and then when I get out of spending time with him,

  734. eventually my defenses will be depleted.

  735. Yeah. And the only way to get him back

  736. is to get back into the word. Right?

  737. So we want to make sure that we're staying connected to the

  738. source. How do we stop Idols from

  739. creeping up in our lives? We evaluate our time.

  740. We evaluate what we're spending our money on.

  741. We evaluate what we're showing our talents to Right, there's

  742. some real gifted people that spend their talents on

  743. themselves. It's all about getting me

  744. somewhere better. I'm really good at these things.

  745. And I can continue to progress my career, my status, my

  746. ability, and I'm willing to spend time on building myself

  747. and my kingdom. But then it's like all there's a

  748. project here at the church where my God.

  749. You know. Sorry.

  750. Can't jump on, you know, it's a time, you know, you just like

  751. the things, you know, there was a something that was it was

  752. here, rain check. That we start rain check and

  753. God. Like you know, you should be at

  754. prayer and you're like, oh, you know next time.

  755. Because it's not like the flesh, doesn't obviously.

  756. So try to do his thing and it's easy for things to come off.

  757. I mean, you wake up, you come to me, you know, Tuesday Morning,

  758. Thursday morning prayer at 6 a.m. you can do it for, you

  759. know, six months. It's still going to happen every

  760. once in a while that you're going to wake up at like 5:30

  761. and be like I'd rather stay in bed today.

  762. Today would be a better day right here.

  763. Especially when it's cold outside.

  764. Like I gotta wake up, put on extra clothes.

  765. I'm already trying to get it like as close to the last

  766. second. I need to write takes me 32

  767. minutes to get to the building so I can wake up you know five

  768. minutes to get dressed. Now it's colds up to add 5

  769. minutes. I mean I like to get my stuff

  770. out the night before and like throw it somewhere that way I

  771. can only have to think about it in the morning.

  772. Why? Cuz I want that time sleeping

  773. but you know, I always reminded myself.

  774. Often, you know I'd wake up especially you know, when I was

  775. going to the gym at 5:00, I'd wake up and my alarm would go

  776. off and I look over and be like just won't go back to sleep.

  777. And then I just asked myself, is one more hour of sleep really

  778. worth it. Is one more hours sleep really?

  779. Worth not obtaining. The goal I want to get to it was

  780. this one more hour really worth it.

  781. Some of us are trying to get to a Next Level spiritually and we

  782. need to take one more hour. Towards something else.

  783. And when it comes up and you don't want to do it, you need to

  784. ask yourself. Is this one more hour really

  785. worth me? Not accomplishing what God wants

  786. me to in this season. Because like I said, it's crazy

  787. how when you like are all about something, you'll jump on it,

  788. you'll spend time in it, you'll go, it's like nothing can stop

  789. you. You love this project.

  790. You want to keep doing this project.

  791. You want to see it all the way through you're putting in crazy

  792. hours but you're excited about a times flying by, there's no

  793. problem. But then it's like, God tells

  794. you something like, you know, I'm just it was I was it was a

  795. long day already. but if you really valued it, then we would

  796. do it Colossians 3 1 through 17 says, therefore if you have been

  797. raised with Christ to a new life, sharing his resurrection

  798. from the dead, keep seeking the things that are above where

  799. Christ is seated, at the right hand of God set your mind and

  800. keep focused habitually on things above the Heavenly

  801. things. Not on things that are of their

  802. Earth which are only temporal value for you died to this world

  803. and your new real life is hidden with Christ in God.

  804. Christ, who is our life appears? Then you also will appear with

  805. him in glory. So put to death and deprived of

  806. power. Deprived of power, the evil.

  807. Longings of your Earthly body with its sensual, self-centered

  808. instincts, immorality impurity, sinful past, and evil desires

  809. and greed which is a kind of Dollar Tree because it replaces

  810. your Devotion to God because of the sinful things, the Divine

  811. wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.

  812. Those who fail to listen and who routinely and, you know,

  813. District, disregard God's precepts.

  814. And in the sinful things, you also once walked when you were

  815. habitually living in them without the knowledge of Christ,

  816. but now read yourselves, completely of all these things,

  817. anger, rage malice slander and obscene, abusive filthy vulgar

  818. language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another for

  819. you have stripped off the old self with its evil practices and

  820. have put on the new spiritual self who is being continually

  821. renewed in truth and true knowledge in the image of him

  822. who created the new self and renewal in which there is no

  823. distinction between Greek and and Jew circumcised and

  824. uncircumcised nor between nations rather Barbarian or this

  825. other place, nor in status, whether slave or free, but

  826. Christ is all and in all, so believers, Equal in Christ

  827. without distinction. So as God's Own chosen, people

  828. who are holy set apart Sanctified for his purpose and

  829. well-beloved by God himself. Put on a heart of compassion,

  830. kindness, humility gentleness and patience which has the power

  831. to endure, whatever Injustice or unpleasantness comes with good

  832. temper. Bearing graciously with one

  833. another and willing forgiveness of each other.

  834. If one has a cause for complaint against another, just as the

  835. Lord has forgiven, you, you should So you should forgive

  836. beyond all these things put on. I lost my spot.

  837. We're here. Yep.

  838. And above all these things put on love and enfold yourselves

  839. with a bond of perfectness which binds everything together

  840. completely and ideal Harmony and let the peaceful Harmony which

  841. continues from Christ's rule act as umpire continually in our

  842. hearts deciding and settling with finality.

  843. All the questions that arise in your mind's, in the peaceful

  844. state to which, as members of Christ's one body, you are also

  845. called to live and be thankful. Appreciative giving praise to

  846. God, always let the word spoken by Christ.

  847. The Messiah have its home in your hearts and minds and dwell

  848. in you all its richness as you teach and admonish and train

  849. one, another and all insight, and intelligence and wisdom, and

  850. spiritual things. And as you sing Psalms, and

  851. hymns, and spiritual songs making Melody to God with his

  852. grace, in your hearts. And whatever you do, no matter

  853. what it is, in word or deed. Do everything in the name of the

  854. Lord, Jesus and Independence upon his person, giving praise

  855. to God the Father through him. You've been given a new nature

  856. called out of all of those things that were listed and

  857. placed with the ability to overcome at all.

  858. Just like Pastor talked about a couple Sundays on driving it out

  859. and driving out the flesh. You have the same ability to

  860. drive out the things that are sucking your time.

  861. Because if we all believe we're drawing, even closer to the end.

  862. Then how much more valuable is our time now than it was before?

  863. How much more valuable has our time in this day and age become?

  864. Because the truth is we have one shot at life.

  865. And we will only be judged by where we put our time.

  866. Right? Because he called us to

  867. something, he wants us to accomplish something, which

  868. means I'm gonna have to put my time to accomplish it, which

  869. means in the end, he's going to look and say I called you to

  870. attain this, you got here because this was the time you

  871. gave me Right. So we've been called to

  872. something greater we've been pushed in our hearts that we can

  873. accomplish these things, which means we have to value our time

  874. and we have to place our time and things that are going to

  875. continue to push us to our purpose.

  876. Right, I seek after things that will push me to my purpose and

  877. are valuable to my time. You know, there are things I

  878. used to do. You know, I used to do tons of

  879. side photography because I enjoyed it and it was like good

  880. extra money and I just kind of liked it and grew it.

  881. Now I like never do side photography.

  882. Why a I don't really love it as much anymore.

  883. I just want to do my own thing. I don't have to deal with

  884. families it's not as fun as it used to be you know it's like

  885. you know I don't like the way this picture looks like it's

  886. your face. My picture is great.

  887. Like like is there just one where the whole family Smiles,

  888. like know your Kid was screaming and crying the whole time.

  889. Like, can't Photoshop that. And I was like so much work.

  890. Like man, I just take pictures of Nature's easy.

  891. People always look happy when they're staring at a mountain,

  892. you know, it's like, let's just travel, I'll take pictures of

  893. people there. But also I realized that I

  894. didn't want to spend time doing it anymore.

  895. Because it wasn't just that time of the photo shoot, it was the

  896. time of the editing, it was the time of the getting better.

  897. It was the time of finding new locations.

  898. It was the time of doing all this stuff and just for me, I

  899. was like, I don't like this, it's something I don't want to

  900. spend time on anymore, especially continually.

  901. I got still sobbing like my wife.

  902. Does she's a better photographer than me.

  903. Anyways, people always smiling her photos so you know like but

  904. everyone's mom she's like hand and you kind of shoot like fine.

  905. I can take it right. It's like it's not but I don't

  906. have to edit them. That's the best part.

  907. Like I just like boom. There you go.

  908. You make them look happy. You know, like I don't have to

  909. spend all that time in it. Now I got to spend the 4th I can

  910. on Pinterest and fine poses and then try to get someone who

  911. doesn't like to pose pose because he never fails that.

  912. At some point, you're going to take photos of some like dude

  913. who doesn't really want to be there because he hates pictures

  914. and just like stands there. You like haha, you know do

  915. something funny. Trying to make someone laughing.

  916. I'm already in my mind going like okay, so they're going to

  917. hate these. This is great.

  918. How good is my Photoshop skills? Could I make him smile?

  919. Will he know that he never smiled and call me on it or will

  920. he just be happy that there was one and they think that maybe he

  921. did at some point? Right.

  922. Like it was just work and so I was like, man, I'd rather put

  923. that time somewhere else. Better than that.

  924. And so, I did I'm put time towards things, I grew up with

  925. and I put times the things I actually found more enjoyable

  926. now. So like, if I needed a break

  927. like, this is now I have this time because I'm not booked

  928. because like photo shoots are always like early morning,

  929. anyways on the weekends. And so then I'm like it's

  930. Saturday and now I have to wake up to go.

  931. Take pictures of people who are tired and I like we're doing in

  932. Six, Clock is high because the lighting is the best.

  933. You just gotta do it. If you want family photos, wake

  934. up early, you need to wake up extra early so that you look

  935. awake in the photos. Don't blame your photographer

  936. because you woke up five minutes before you needed to and like

  937. Rush there in like a luxu sweeping all the photos.

  938. You'll woke up five minutes ago, wake up 30, 40 minutes, early

  939. get some coffee, get look happy. And then ask someone to take

  940. some photos of you gonna make your family photos better?

  941. You're welcome. Matthew 22:37 through 38 says,

    Matthew 22:37–38

  942. and then he said to them. You shall love the Lord, your

  943. God with all your heart and with all your soul and when all your

  944. mind, this is the great and foremost commandment.

  945. You shall love the Lord, your God with all your heart, all

  946. your soul, and all your mind. The Creator who died for you,

  947. who loves you, who gave you life, who gave you purpose?

  948. Who blesses you and Lead. You just wants you to spend time

  949. with him. And like I said earlier as a

  950. father, I looked at the brownies and I was like I created these,

  951. I have every right to them. God created each and every one

  952. of us and has every right to demand that.

  953. We give him our heart. Because in return, is it really

  954. that much? To say man.

  955. Look at all God did all he wants is for me to spend time with him

  956. and do his word. Right?

  957. And as parents, we look at our kids and we're like, just spend

  958. time with me and obey me, right? For all the parents out there,

  959. you can probably relate, there's nothing sweeter than like, when

  960. your kid just comes up just completely out of the blue.

  961. And they're like, I love you and they give you a hug and then

  962. they just like go back to doing, you know, there's been multiple

  963. times where like I've had one of my daughter's.

  964. They are saying out playing especially Luna.

  965. She's a lot more like affectionate but should just

  966. like be playing and doing something, you know talking to

  967. herself. Probably and singing Because she

  968. can just like play with a tree and have a great time.

  969. And then she'll just like run up to me she's like hey I love you

  970. and not give me a hug and then just like run back out and just

  971. like you literally stop what you were doing because at some point

  972. you have this thought in your mind that you loved me and felt

  973. like you needed me to know and there's nothing more special

  974. than that moment. And some of us just need to give

  975. God that moment. We need to take the time and

  976. work to just stop so you gotta love you, thank you for all

  977. you're doing my life. I thank you that you continue to

  978. lead and guide me and push me somewhere else.

  979. I thank you for your loving, kindness your faithfulness to

  980. always be there because you are a good father and then go back

  981. That's how we increase value in time.

  982. That's how we get ourselves out of positions.

  983. Being you can come up. That's how we get ourselves out

  984. of of just the mundane, the, we're down, right?

  985. Most people get so worn out at what they're doing because

  986. they're really just not building themselves up with God.

  987. Right Colossians 1 3 will 113 last one for.

  988. He rescued us from the Dominion of darkness and transferred us

  989. to the kingdom of his beloved Son.

  990. In whom we have Redemption, the forgiveness of sin.

  991. He is the image of the invisible.

  992. God, the firstborn of all creation for by him.

  993. All things were created both in the heavens and on Earth,

  994. visible and invisible, whether Thrones, or dominions or rulers

  995. or authorities. All things have been created

  996. through him. And for him, he is before all

  997. things. And in him all things, hold

  998. together. He is also the head of the body,

  999. the church and he is the beginning, the firstborn from

1000. the dead so that he himself will come to have.

1001. First place in everything for he is the Father's good pleasure

1002. for all the fullness to dwell in him.

1003. So, I just want to encourage everyone tonight.

1004. As I wrap this up, To just take time.

1005. To evaluate your time. Some of you are going through

1006. situations or trying to get to the next level and really all

1007. you need to do Is start putting time where it needs to be put.

1008. And I think we can always look and try to find something big

1009. and drastic to change, but the truth is for most people.

1010. If you just arrange your time, you'll find yourself somewhere.

1011. If find yourself in a way better position, if you just rearrange

1012. your time and start putting the your valuable time in the things

1013. of the spirit, and being in the word, and being in prayer and

1014. being in his presence. You'll also find that you have

1015. to spend less time dealing with other problems.
