  1. We're going to start tonight. I just want to go to Psalms 34,

  2. Psalms 34, verses 7 through 9 and I want to talk a little bit

    Psalms 34:7–9

  3. about the fear of the Lord. And so in Psalms 34 it reads

  4. this way, it says the Angel of the Lord and I'm reading out of

  5. the amplified in camps around those who fear him with awe

  6. inspired reverence and worship him with obedience.

  7. Our obedience worships him. Have we ever made that

  8. connection that when we actually obey him and are obedient to his

  9. word, it brings worship towards him?

  10. And so then he goes on to say, and he rescues each of them.

  11. Taste and see that the Lord our God is good.

  12. How blessed, fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God

  13. is the man who takes refuge in him and reverently fears the

  14. Lord, you, his Saints, believers, holy ones.

  15. For those who fear Him, there is no want.

  16. For those who fear Him, there is no want.

  17. See, we don't have to want for any good thing when we fear the

  18. Lord, right? We don't have to want for

  19. anything when we fear Him. And then he goes on to say, Come

  20. you children, listen to me and I will what teach you to fear the

  21. Lord with awe inspired reverence and worship him with obedience

  22. and worship him with obedience. And we want to give the correct

  23. definition and define what fear is.

  24. This is not a fear in the fact that we are afraid, like when we

  25. are afraid that we may get hit by a car or we're afraid to get

  26. on a plane because it may crash. This is not this type of fear.

  27. We have learned here that fear, this fear of the Lord is to

  28. Revere, is to Revere Him. It is to stand in awe.

  29. And that's what we did. As we began to worship Him, we

  30. were reminded how awesome our God is, how big our God is.

  31. And we stand in awe that He is the Creator.

  32. Come on. Of everything in the universe,

  33. He created it with His mere words.

  34. He spoke it into existence. Come on.

  35. And and so it means to stand in awe of who he is.

  36. It means to honor Him, to honor him.

  37. When we come in corporately to begin to have praise and

  38. worship. It is for one thing and one

  39. thing only, to bring honor to God, to bring honor to the Lord,

  40. Amen. To honor who He is and what He

  41. has done in our lives, that is the only reason why we are doing

  42. praise and worship, is to remind ourselves that we must honor Him

  43. and who He is because we fear Him.

  44. Amen. We honor Him.

  45. We honor the fact that He would want to come and dwell and and

  46. bring His presence to His people.

  47. We honor that. We honor Him because He brought

  48. us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

  49. We honor Him because of that. And so every time we come to

  50. worship, there should be that honor towards Him, not just so

  51. we can have a fun little praise and worship.

  52. That's not what that's about. It's about us bringing our honor

  53. towards Him, our honor towards Him.

  54. And when He is honored, He'll fill this place with His

  55. presence. When He's honored, when He's

  56. honored for who He is, it means to esteem Him, right?

  57. And we've also read that it means to be devoted to him, that

  58. when you say you are one that fears the Lord, you're saying

  59. that I am devoted to him, I'm devoted to him, I honor him, I

  60. fear him, I'm devoted to him. It means to respect, right?

  61. I respect him. I, I respect what he has done

  62. for me in my life, for what he's done for me in my life.

  63. And then it means to be afraid. It does mean that or to dread,

  64. but to be afraid or to dread in the context of you don't want to

  65. ever do anything that would dishonor him or displease him.

  66. You would never want to be a person that would dishonor who

  67. he is and what he's done for your life, or displease him by

  68. not doing the will of the father, because you can

  69. displease him. When you refuse to do the will,

  70. that of the Father, you can displease Him for Him who knows

  71. what to do through scripture and doesn't do it.

  72. What is that to you? The Scripture says it's sin.

  73. And so when you choose to not do what Scripture says, it

  74. dishonors Him. It actually displeases Him.

  75. Amen. He's not pleased with it,

  76. especially when you know what the Scripture says to do and you

  77. don't do it. So it's very important as

  78. believers, if we're going to continue to reign in this life

  79. and we're going to continue to reign as a church and be all

  80. that God wants us to be as his children, as representatives and

  81. ambassadors of Christ. We have have to ask ourselves,

  82. are we simply obeying what Scripture says in areas of our

  83. life? Because if not, then we are

  84. dishonouring Him and we're not respecting the fact that he has

  85. put things in His word that he expects his children to do.

  86. And isn't that something even with your own children, you

  87. know, it is disrespectful when you tell your child to do

  88. something and they refuse to do it.

  89. What are they doing? They're rebelling against you.

  90. And and some people think that, oh, they're just playing,

  91. they're just having fun. Oh, you know, and make excuses

  92. for that behavior because you do it as a parent.

  93. But that is not what our father thinks about it.

  94. When we see things in his word that he says as a believer we

  95. ought to be walking in and we refuse to do it.

  96. He does not think it's funny. He thinks it's dishonouring and

  97. displeasing and disrespectful. Right.

  98. And so here, as we continue to go through some things on the

  99. fear of the Lord, we have to exercise, you know, the things

  100. that we know as a believer that we should do.

  101. And I can just go ahead and let you know, as a believer, even as

  102. an infant in Christ, as a babe in Christ, if you just got into

  103. this thing, if you just simply read Scripture and do whatever

  104. the Scripture tells you to do, you are going to be pleasing to

  105. God. It's that easy.

  106. And do you know, it doesn't stop.

  107. It doesn't stop. But you know, I found that the

  108. longer, sometimes the longer people are actually believers,

  109. the more they lapse and not do any longer what the Scripture

  110. has done. And maybe things they did in the

  111. beginning that they don't do now because they were so thankful

  112. and so in awe of him saving them and rescuing them from the

  113. situation that they were in and drawing them in the beginning.

  114. And it was easy for them to want to there we're excited about the

  115. Word and read the Word and do the Word and participate in the

  116. Word and all the things that he tells us to do as a new

  117. believer. But then the more they kept

  118. growing, you know, coming to church, serving the Lord, the

  119. longer, the more those things got familiar, get familiar.

  120. And then as believers, we start slipping in things that we know

  121. we should do in Scripture. Amen.

  122. And know that that is a place that we have to, as believers,

  123. always judge ourselves. Do you know the Scripture tells

  124. us, judge yourself lest you be judged?

  125. Do you know He wants you to judge yourself so that

  126. ultimately you don't have to stand before him and Him judge

  127. you on that? And do you know why he would

  128. even have to judge you on that? Because you refuse to do it.

  129. You refuse to obey. You refuse to be obedient to the

  130. very thing that His word was saying for you to do, right?

  131. And He's always there wanting us to obey him, wanting us to do

  132. things. And that's just like, as a

  133. parent, if I give my child a directive to do and they don't

  134. do it, there should be a consequence.

  135. There should be a consequence. See, there's so many natural

  136. aspects in the earth that we can look at to see that this is how

  137. God operates through His Word. And as a parent with a child,

  138. this is how I should be operating with my child as well,

  139. right? Amen.

  140. So let's move on. So, you know, John Bevere made

  141. this statement which made me actually go back to looking at

  142. some things concerning the love of God.

  143. And so he said this. He said you cannot truly love

  144. God until we fear Him, nor can you properly fear Him until you

  145. love Him, right until you love him.

  146. And so you know, Pastor has taught us and we have taught

  147. that the the foundation of the Kingdom of God is on love.

  148. It's built upon God's love and who he is.

  149. But I would say that it is as equally built upon the fear of

  150. the Lord. And if one of those 2 is out of

  151. balance, if you're only focused on, oh he loves me, he loves me,

  152. he loves me, he loves me, he loves me and not have any fear

  153. of him, then there is going to be abuse.

  154. There's going to be abuse, right?

  155. We can see that even in a marriage.

  156. Do you know the Bible says women ought to honor their husbands

  157. and respect them, right? They ought to honor their

  158. husbands and respect them. So you could.

  159. I know women that say they love their husbands all day long, but

  160. when they open up their mouth I know they disrespect their

  161. husband. They disrespect him because of

  162. the way they talk to him, especially in front of people.

  163. Degrading, belittling, demeaning.

  164. That's no respect. That's no honor for him being

  165. the lead in the home. I don't care if he's a good

  166. leader or not. You have a responsibility as a

  167. wife who loves the Lord. Amen.

  168. And actually the scripture says do it because you may win him by

  169. your behavior, your godly behavior, your godly behavior.

  170. But anyway, I'm not talking about marriage and I'm not

  171. talking about parenting. But we're going to move on, OK?

  172. Because it gets tight anytime somebody talks about don't be

  173. talking about my kid and surely don't be talking about my man

  174. and my marriage anyway. But anyway, really the Kingdom

  175. of God is built upon the love of God and the fear of God.

  176. And they work hand in hand. And again, if one of them is out

  177. of out of balance, you could also say it will become

  178. perverted and abused. It will become a perverted and

  179. abused. Do you know, even in Christian

  180. marriages? I guess I'm on the marriage

  181. topic. I don't know.

  182. Somebody in here must need it anyway.

  183. I need it always. What was I going to say?

  184. Oh, abuse. Yeah.

  185. See, when one of these is out of balance, then abuse will happen.

  186. And you know, you can act like you love this person all day

  187. long and you know, do all these things, but in your heart, isn't

  188. that what even he God says? He says you, you love me with

  189. your with your words of the mouth, but your heart is far

  190. from me, right? So you can tell you, you can

  191. tell those things. There's an atmosphere there in

  192. relationships and different things.

  193. And when there's no respect, you can tell they're they're taking

  194. advantage. Oh, I know what I was going to

  195. say. Here it is.

  196. Thank you, Holy Ghost. There have been Christians,

  197. women especially, that I've seen through the years that we've

  198. done counseling with and different things that, you know,

  199. they think because and see this is where it's out of balance.

  200. They think because they're a Christian and because they are

  201. supposed to walk in love that they can be abused and taken

  202. advantage of and manipulated. Well, God tells me I just need

  203. to forgive him. 70 Psalms 7 But no behavior ever changes.

  204. No, that's abuse because something's out of balance.

  205. You see what I'm saying? And so again, even in our

  206. relationship with the Lord, if we don't have a clear

  207. understanding of what the fear of the Lord is and what the love

  208. of God is, and that it is the foundation of everything that's

  209. built from the Kingdom of God, then there's going to be abuses.

  210. And you've seen that in the church, right?

  211. You see that in the church with people thinking, oh, well, God

  212. loves me, He loves me, He loves me.

  213. I'm under grace, grace, grace. So I don't have to obey what the

  214. Scripture says and I can still have sex out of marriage.

  215. That's abuse. That's abuse.

  216. You're disrespecting God and his holy word.

  217. You see what I'm saying? And so again, we have to have

  218. that clear understanding of what it is.

  219. So the being afraid or dread that is defined with fear is

  220. associated with obedience to His will, that you would be afraid

  221. to not obey God's will for your life.

  222. There ought to be fear. And, and you've even seen this,

  223. if people have been called by God specifically for a purpose

  224. in their life and they refuse to obey that calling, there ought

  225. to be so much fear of the Lord. They ought to be afraid because

  226. they know, look what happened to Jonah in the well, right?

  227. He wanted to disobey and not do what God was asking him to do.

  228. OK, so just because we're in the new covenant doesn't mean that

  229. we get to disobey or not be obedient to especially what

  230. Scripture is telling us we ought to be doing as a believer in our

  231. life, because those who fear Him will want to do what God's will

  232. is for their life. It is not about being afraid of

  233. God, but rather acknowledging His authority and holiness.

  234. It's about acknowledging His authority and His Holiness, and

  235. which leads us to a desire to do His will for our life, OK?

  236. Because of His authority, because of who He is, because I

  237. fear Him, I'm going to. I want to do what the Lord wants

  238. me to do. I don't want to disobey Him or

  239. not do the will of God for my Life, OK.

  240. And so it's important that we recognize that.

  241. And then let's read out of Proverbs 14 so everybody has a

  242. clear understanding what the fear of the Lord is.

  243. Proverbs 1427 says this. The fear of the Lord is the

  244. fountain of life, that one may avoid the snares of death.

  245. And we want to see here that the fountain of life is the starting

  246. point. The fear of the Lord is the

  247. fountain of life. When you look up the fountain of

  248. life, it is the starting point. So what he's saying is the fear

  249. of the Lord is the starting point of your life.

  250. It is the fountain of your life. And everything is going to flow

  251. from the wellspring of the fear of the Lord in your life.

  252. It's good. That's what that literally

  253. means. It is the source of life, and it

  254. is the wellspring, the starting point of your life.

  255. The fear of the Lord, The fear of the Lord to honor him, to

  256. reverence him, to not want to disobey him or displease him in

  257. any way, to want to respect him. And he's letting us know if you

  258. don't have that in your life, there's going to be issues.

  259. There's going to be issues. And we see here in Isaiah 33 and

  260. six, it says this Isaiah 33 and six, it says in that day he will

  261. be your sure foundation, providing a rich storehouse of

  262. salvation, wisdom and knowledge. The fear of the Lord is your

  263. treasure, is your treasure. He's saying that the fear of the

  264. Lord, when it is your treasure, the treasure is that storehouse,

  265. just like it's the fear of the Lord is the life source or the

  266. spring, the fountain of your life.

  267. He's saying, listen, the fear of the Lord, it is the treasure of

  268. your life and it is the storehouse that when you look at

  269. that word treasure, it literally means a storehouse.

  270. It means an Armory. You know, we have armories here

  271. at the Florida National Guard in Saint Augustine.

  272. We have the headquarters and they have armories.

  273. And you know what's in those armories?

  274. Weapons, weapons. And he's letting us know in

  275. correlation to which I'm not going to go into today, but in

  276. correlation to this storehouse, this treasury, it is your

  277. weapon. The fear of the Lord is a

  278. weapon, and that's why he says that the angels will encamp

  279. around those who fear the Lord. You being a person that will

  280. honor God, you being a person that wants to do his will, You

  281. being a person that does not want to disobey him or displease

  282. him. It is a weapon that he is

  283. saying. Listen, if you'll stay up

  284. underneath the fear of the Lord, there is a storehouse of

  285. weaponry. It will be like a Armory around

  286. you. Come on.

  287. And it also means a full supply. A treasury also has what riches

  288. in it? Gold, silver.

  289. Come on. So think about Pirates of the

  290. Caribbean, right? That's also what is references.

  291. When you fear the Lord, there is riches, there is honor.

  292. Come on, there's provision, there is a full supply, there's

  293. a treasury waiting for you. Who will fear Him?

  294. Everything that you need as a believer will come from the live

  295. source or the spring. Come on, the fountain of life,

  296. of the fear of the Lord, everything you need as a

  297. believer, that's what it's saying, that's what it means.

  298. So it's your treasure. Amen.

  299. Glory to God. Let's look at Philippians,

  300. Philippians chapter 2. I read a lot of Old Testament in

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  301. the Psalms and you know, Isaiah, but I want to go over to what

  302. the New Testament has to say about the fear of the Lord

  303. because it actually has a lot to say about the fear of the Lord.

  304. But we're just going to tap into a just a couple of scriptures

  305. tonight. That's all we have time left to

  306. do. So Philippians chapter 2 and

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  307. verses 12 through 13, it says this.

  308. So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my

  309. presence only, but now much more in my absence, what does He say?

  310. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is

  311. God who is at work in you both to will and work for His good

  312. pleasure. So there is His will and his

  313. work for you, because you have called on the name of the Lord,

  314. and you have been granted salvation.

  315. And He lets us know that now that we're born again, there's a

  316. will and there is a work that you need to do as a believer.

  317. Now, again, this is not a work to earn your salvation because

  318. you've already earned it by His work, by calling on His name, by

  319. faith. And that came first.

  320. You see that you're born again to do a will and a work.

  321. And He lets us know that we now are responsible to work it out.

  322. And how are we to work it out? How are we to work it out?

  323. With fear and trembling, With fear and trembling.

  324. That means we are to work out this will and this work and our

  325. salvation with the Lord, with honor, with honoring him, with

  326. respecting him, with thinking about how awesome he is, being

  327. in awe of what He's done. The fact that He even drew you

  328. out of darkness and saved you and brought you into the Kingdom

  329. of God and gave you a new life in Christ and put the third

  330. person of the Godhead on the inside of you.

  331. Hallelujah and then gave you the Scripture says everything that

  332. pertains to life and godliness that he's given us this earthen,

  333. this treasure in earthen vessel. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, glory to

  334. God. And he goes on to say, work it

  335. out with honor, work it out with respect, work it out with

  336. pleasing Him, work it out by being obedient to him.

  337. This is your responsibility. God's already done his job.

  338. Jesus Christ has already paid the price and poured his blood

  339. out on the mercy seat. Come on.

  340. And now it's our responsibility, by the grace of God, by the

  341. mercy of God, by the faith of God that He's given us a mustard

  342. seed up to work our salvation out in the earth with fear and

  343. trembling. And I believe there there has

  344. been a lack of the fear of the Lord in the church today because

  345. we're going to read anyway. So he tells us workout.

  346. I want to read what workout means.

  347. It's not like going to the gym, but we need to do that as well.

  348. Hallelujah. And my daughter texts my husband

  349. today as I was stuffing my face and said, Hey, dad, you want to

  350. do this 5K across the lions? There's a Lions bridge 5K that's

  351. coming up this weekend. And, and, and my husband said,

  352. what do you want to do it? And she said, well, I'll do it.

  353. And he said, well, I'll do it. If you want to do it, you know,

  354. I'll do it with you. It's not like I want to do it,

  355. but I'll do it if you want me to do it with you, you know?

  356. And then he looks over at the table, he said, I think that's a

  357. good goal for you too, and I'll help start training you.

  358. Can you imagine him as my trainer?

  359. That's why it's not happened in 34 years.

  360. He's trained me enough anyway. But I thought to myself, he

  361. said, you know what he told me? He told me, you know, a long

  362. time ago you told me you had a dream of you just running and

  363. that you were a runner. I said it must have been the

  364. pizza you made me eat that night.

  365. No, anyway, but I might do it. Hey, you never know.

  366. I'm ready to turn a new leaf. Come on anyway.

  367. So work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

  368. That word work out means perform.

  369. But yet you know, there's this whole teaching now that you're

  370. it's not about performance. It's not about performance, but

  371. working out is about perform you.

  372. What is he saying? You need to perform the

  373. salvation that has been given to you.

  374. You need to work it out. You need to.

  375. It also means produce it, have fruit of it in your life.

  376. And again, we're not doing it in our own work.

  377. We're doing it through the grace that strengthening that

  378. empowering that we learned about that grace, that supernatural

  379. grace that's been instilled in every believers life the day

  380. they called on the name of the Lord.

  381. It means workout means this to accomplish, to achieve, to do

  382. that from which something results.

  383. Is there any results in your life as a believer?

  384. That is a good question. That is a good question that we

  385. should be asking ourselves if we claim to be a Christian.

  386. Is there fruit? Is there those things that are

  387. having a result in our life? Because we year after year, are

  388. continuing to work out our salvation?

  389. We're letting the Holy Spirit deal with us and work us out.

  390. You know the Holy Spirit will work you out.

  391. It's not there just to give you chill bumps, right?

  392. And it means this to bring about to fashion or to render.

  393. Listen to this. This is what it means in the

  394. Greek to render one fit for a thing.

  395. What thing you being a child of God to render one fit.

  396. That's what that means to to do the work, to do the work or

  397. deed, to do the deed. That's what it means.

  398. That means there is going to be tangible results and your life

  399. as a believer that you can see how God has changed you, has has

  400. done things within you you never thought you would be doing as a

  401. believer. You can see it in your marriage,

  402. you can see it with your children, you can see it in your

  403. finances. You can see it in every area of

  404. your life because you've allowed yourself and the Holy Spirit and

  405. the Word of God to work out that salvation in your life, doing

  406. things by just simply obeying what the Word has said and what

  407. God has said on the inside of you through the Spirit of the

  408. living God. Amen.

  409. It means to fully accomplish. Remember, the goal of salvation

  410. is not just to get you in to get you to heaven.

  411. It's to actually get you in. To be the sons and the daughters

  412. come on and of the Kingdom of God, to be royalty, to be those

  413. that know how to rule and reign and overcome in this life.

  414. To be those that are accomplishing great feats like

  415. we see those in the Bible do right to accomplish these

  416. things, to mature, to flourish and to finish.

  417. Because you know what? He tells us that we can not

  418. finish our course in Scripture. So he's letting it.

  419. We have to work out our salvation so that we do finish

  420. our course. We run our race, we do the

  421. things that God has put in us to be able to do, Amen.

  422. And that is going to take us participating with God to do the

  423. things that He wants to do in our life.

  424. Now I want to read this out of the amplified OK, and I want to

  425. go up early to verse 3. So from Philippians 2 to verse

  426. 13, and the reason why I want to read it, I want to want you to

  427. see in full context of what he's actually talking about when he's

  428. inserting in there that you are to work out your salvation with

  429. fear and trembling. Because it's actually in context

  430. of doing the will of God for your life and doing the things

  431. that God is speaking to you to do in your life.

  432. But then also talking about doing things not in your flesh

  433. or carnally, because the fear of the Lord will bring you to a

  434. place of holiness. I like to do it, this little

  435. thing. Fear equals holiness.

  436. Holiness equals glory. And this is how we see God work

  437. in your life, is that when you actually understand the fear of

  438. the Lord and begin to honor and be, obey and begin to do what

  439. God is asking you to do in your everyday walk, being willing and

  440. obedient to do His will, then guess what?

  441. That is going to then produce holiness within your life

  442. because you're actually doing the Word, and the Word will by

  443. the Holy Spirit bring sanctification and holiness.
