That we thank you and praise you for the opportunity to come
-
together and that the preparation and the different
-
things we've been able to accomplish in just such a short
-
time, you know, from meeting with pastor, I'm grateful.
-
And I just ask that tonight as we go through the lesson and we
-
look at the Scriptures, see in the Kingdom arena of business
-
where we're supposed to be, you know, launching ourselves and
-
and being able to take care of ourselves.
-
Thank you for those in attendance tonight.
-
Thank you. We're going to be able to
-
accomplish great things for your name and for the Kingdom and,
-
and along with bringing as many people with us as we can, we
-
want to give you thanks in advance for that in Jesus name,
-
Amen. We are going to be, we are going
-
to be having a meeting with pastor.
-
We first of all is going to be Seth and I OK, Seth and pastor
-
have been getting together on some things And, and then Seth
-
and I went in and had a meeting. Golly, I don't know remember
-
when that was. It's first of the year probably.
-
And you know, just talking about some things that we wanted to
-
add to king of first business alliance.
-
And so we, you know, we're going to we've got some things
-
planned. We've already got all the way to
-
the end of the year planned. And then we're going to be
-
getting with pastor on some new things that we're wanting to do,
-
which includes, you know, a podcast that we can easily get
-
to and you're not thumbing through the whole thing.
-
We're going to be consistent on getting something on the podcast
-
every month. And when you get your and most
-
of you, everybody got a text or an e-mail or both.
-
Everybody get a text, e-mail or both.
-
Bob, your Shay, Bob, Bill, did you get one?
-
OK, Hi, that might be a problem. OK.
-
And did you get it? You're going to get his data.
-
OK. I wanted you to have it more
-
than anything. OK was the reason why is that
-
you and I talked about the lesson from last week it he will
-
send you the link to get on it and that way you can get it to
-
your wife and have her, you know, be caught up with you.
-
OK, so that's that's the plan. And one of the things that we're
-
going to try to start doing is put the link on the
-
communications that we're going to do every month.
-
That's just something that we've not been able to do.
-
Seth knows how to do it. I didn't know how to do it and I
-
couldn't wait on media to do it. OK, You know, 'cause it's just,
-
they're so far out and now they're less handed than they
-
were when we started this whole deal.
-
All right? But so anyway, there's some,
-
there's some things that we're going to be presenting and
-
changing and encouraging you to just stay with us because it's
-
going to be go up from here. You know, I just felt like over
-
the last couple of years we've had some lols, you know, just
-
come here, listen, come here, listen.
-
And we're going to change some of that, OK?
-
I think it's going to be pretty exciting.
-
All right, get your Bible, get it open to Matthew chapter 13.
Matthew 13 chapter mention
-
It's going to be a biblical scripture standpoint that I'm
-
going to go with tonight on communication.
-
And when we talk about communication, one, it's going
-
to be talking about speaking. And when we speak, there's
-
certain things that we have to make sure that we're saying, OK,
-
now this is the account of Jesus.
-
And, and I'm going to break some things down and I'm going to
-
just, I'm just going to keep going with it if I can to be
-
able to get a good flow with this.
-
But this is what it said. It said.
-
And the disciples came and said unto him, why do you speak thou
-
to them in parables? Unto them in parables.
-
And he said, And Jesus answered and said unto them, Because it
-
is given for you to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of
-
heaven, but to them it is not given.
-
I thought that was interesting. OK, that Jesus said, There's
-
going to be some in the earth that are going to be given some
-
secrets, and some that are not all right.
-
Then he goes on, and he says, For whosoever hath to him shall
-
be given, and he that has, he'll have more in abundance, and
-
whosoever hath not from him shall be taken away, even that
-
which he had. Verse 13, It said Therefore
-
speak I I to them in parables because they sing they can't see
-
and hearing they do not hear neither do they understand.
-
So one of the things Jesus is educating us on in understanding
-
communication that there's going to be people that are with you
-
and they're going to get it and there's going to be some people
-
wonder what in the world are you talking about?
-
And he tells us he said those that will spiritually try to get
-
in tune with what you're saying. All right, he said they're going
-
to get more revelation. He said more they'll have an
-
abundance. It's going to come more, it's
-
going to come more, it's going to come more, he said, but those
-
that really don't have, you know, any interest in hearing
-
what's going on, he said the very things that they do have
-
will be taken away from them. So when we when we see Jesus
-
illustration, you walk through his whole ministry with him in
-
his whole ministry, the the disciples asked that question.
-
They said, why do you speak unto them in parables?
-
So that must have been the way Jesus spoke to everyone in
-
parables and he and they want to know why, Why can't you just
-
speak plainly to them? And he lets them know, he says,
-
because you've been given the secrets of understanding the
-
Kingdom. And he said, but they haven't.
-
And I had to ask the question, why haven't they?
-
Why haven't they begin again been given that?
-
And it basically boils down because the way he explains it,
-
he said, he said those that have more will be given to him.
-
They'll have an abundance. Those that don't have, he said
-
it taken away. It's basically a desire to hear
-
what's being said. They followed Jesus, they wanted
-
to hear Jesus and and I believe that he did parables to one get
-
their attention. All right, there's so many
-
different, you know, in the Greek of understanding the word
-
parabola, which is the word parable, but it said it's an
-
earthly story. One of the definitions I learned
-
as a little kid and I even found it in your Bible app.
-
It said it is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning or
-
heavenly purpose. So Jesus is telling these things
-
and and they're saying, well, that doesn't make sense.
-
But if you've been given and understanding because you won't
-
let him and his word go, you're going to be the 1A candidate to
-
be able to hear what he's got to say.
-
And so when we talk about our own communication, all right,
-
one of the things that I've seen over the years is that the
-
people that we love to listen to are the ones that can give us an
-
illustration with what they're saying.
-
We may not remember verbatim what they say, but I tell you
-
what most people, and I'm going to give you some stories
-
tonight. You'll be able to tell anybody
-
else. All right, And people remember
-
stories and and we always have. Jesus knew that they're going to
-
you know, I mean, I don't how many out of the 70 that showed
-
up that he proclaimed as a disciples sent them out two by
-
two. How many of them one day woke up
-
and got it. Wait a minute.
-
I think this is what he's talking about, you know, and
-
telling each other. Remember that parable he told
-
us, you know, about the woman that was sweeping the house and
-
she lost a coin and she swept the whole dirt floor, right?
-
And it swept it and found that coin and, and got all excited or
-
the, you know, the 99 sheep and went and go found the found the
-
one that was missing. You know, he's telling these
-
stories to get their curiosity. This is in communication.
-
We always need to keep a level of curiosity, not so much of
-
what you're going to say to them and hoping they catch it, but
-
you need to have curiosity of what someone else says to you.
-
All right, to be able to get it and get an understanding and
-
find out. This is a problem with a lot of
-
us, OK, Sometimes we act like we ain't got time for nothing.
-
Oh, we're just too busy. Somebody's trying to
-
communicate, you know, with this real important.
-
You know, there's a movie that I loved as a kid growing up called
-
Snowball Express. I don't know if you saw it was a
-
Disney movie. OK Dean Jones was one of the,
-
you know, highest paid actors for Disney back in the 70s and
-
80s. And it was so funny.
-
His in this in this story, he inherited a hotel in Colorado.
-
So he leaves his high paying job in New York and drags the whole
-
family to this hotel that they say is making money and stuff.
-
And it is empty cobwebs everywhere.
-
All right, furniture upside down with covers on it.
-
And they're thinking we got to live here, right.
-
Well, it was funny when it all came down to it.
-
There was a banker that wanted the property for all the
-
minerals and all the trees and all the stuff on the property.
-
And he he gave the guy some money to get started knowing he
-
wouldn't be able to pay it and he was going to foreclose on it.
-
And the kid kept, you know, wanting to interrupt his dad.
-
He just says, don't bother me right now.
-
I'm thinking about this. Don't bother me right now.
-
I'm thinking about this. Well, her, you know, it hurt his
-
feelings and the and the boy didn't say anything.
-
And mom said here was a note from the the boy.
-
And he said, you know, you want to make a ski resort out of this
-
place. And he said you can't figure out
-
how to get the tow rope up on the hill.
-
And he said, and why can't the tow machine tow itself up on the
-
hill? Well, he said, he's a genius
-
man. And they did that.
-
Well, then there the next opportunity, when they were
-
getting ready to foreclose on the property, the boys start
-
speaking up again. And the dad's going, hold on,
-
Richard, hang on a second. And he goes and he stops.
-
He goes, what would you like to say, Richard?
-
And he said, well, he said, I think that I heard that if there
-
wasn't a library or a hospital in the town that it reverted
-
back to the original owner, which was your uncle.
-
And everybody looks over at the banker and he says, you got an
-
aspirin, you know. So The thing is we're, when we
-
take the time, you know, to listen, you know, we that that's
-
the two parts of communication. So, you know, tonight, let me
-
give you a definition. This has always been my
-
definition for effective communication, just not talking
-
and, and, and somebody, you know, you hear people over here
-
doing this and doing that, but when you're really trying to
-
communicate, this is what you're going to do.
-
This is my definition. It says the ability to paint
-
pictures in the mind of others. Let me just read it.
-
It said to clarify a subject being discussed or bring a
-
desired world to result to a particular task.
-
So effective communication is being able to paint pictures of
-
the outcome you'd like to see, whether it's a, you're
-
discussing something about whatever or you have a task that
-
you're trying to explain. All right.
-
And, and you have to be a good communicator because if you're
-
not a good communicator, if you're not painting the right
-
pictures, I've had this happen. All right.
-
Yeah, I said it set everybody down.
-
This is what we're going to do, team.
-
This is what's going to happen. So when we had to get at the end
-
of the conveyor belt, this is what I want to see, right?
-
And I get, you know, I go about doing what I'm supposed to be
-
doing. They're all doing what they're
-
supposed to do. And I get to the end of the
-
conveyor, and it ain't nothing like we talked about.
-
Now, haven't we all played that game, you know, where we had the
-
whole front row filled up? And I go over here and whisper
-
to Seth and I say something to him.
-
And by the time he gets to the end, it is so messed up.
-
It is so far on what we originally said, it's hilarious,
-
OK, We don't want to play that game in real life.
-
It's too expensive. It takes up too much time.
-
All right, so there's some considerations that I want to
-
give you tonight. I have 4 of them that I want to
-
give you and with some with some scriptures and I want you to jot
-
these down to your interpretation.
-
OK, you don't have to go verbatim, but here's the first
-
one. The effectiveness as a
-
communicator will be the result of your heart.
-
OK, when it comes down to it, really what you're going to be
-
communicating is what's on the inside.
-
Jesus told us that, all right, He said, you know our heart.
-
And here's the thing we need to understand and we need to
-
understand about the heart. You know, we see the heart in
-
the Bible and we and, and, and very rarely does it point to the
-
pump or the organ in your chest that moves blood around.
-
That's not what it's talking about.
-
The heart has always been described, even though in the
-
language it is talking about that cardia is the Greek word
-
for heart and it is the Greek word for the heart that pumps
-
blood. All right.
-
But in Scripture, it has always been to the deep seated part of
-
man on the inside and, and, and it controls things like thoughts
-
and emotions and desires, affections, purposes, endeavors.
-
All of those are the heart. OK.
-
And so we've been warned about our heart because of things that
-
can happen now. Matthew chapter 12, jot this one
Matthew 12 chapter mention
-
down 33 through 37. Listen to this.
-
This is Jesus talking in the Scripture and he says either
-
make the tree good and its fruit good, or else to make the free,
-
make the tree corrupt and its fruit corrupt, for the tree is
-
known by its fruit. Now you know Pastor said, hadn't
-
he recently even he said I'm a fruit inspector.
-
Now notice what it does not say. Anytime you see the word fruit,
-
it does not say you'll judge them by their fruits.
-
The word says you will know them by their fruits.
-
You will have knowledge of what they're about by what they're
-
saying. And he warns us in here.
-
He says, now you are generations of Vipers, how can you be evil?
-
Speak good things. And he said, and out of the
-
abundance of the heart, and we get this scripture, out of the
-
abundance of the heart, the mouth will speak.
-
And he goes on. He said, now good man out of the
-
good treasure, you need to underline that good treasure of
-
the heart brings forth good things.
-
The evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil
-
things, Jesus said. But I say unto you that every
-
idle word that men shall speak, they will give account thereof
-
on the day of judgement. Now I'm going to, I'm going to
-
break a couple of words down in here to give you an idea.
-
One, I like the word idle. OK.
-
The word idle basically means unemployed.
-
OK, so in other words, Jesus saying the words that you say
-
when they go out of your mouth ought to be putting something to
-
work He says in there. He said, you know it also.
-
It also has the the meaning of uselessness and one that is just
-
lazy. OK, so you have words that are
-
lazy, words that do not produce anything.
-
He said beware of those. Do not be a partaker or do not
-
be a speaker of those kind of words.
-
Then he gets in there and he says, for by your words you're
-
justified and by your words you're condemned.
-
Now here's the questions that we have to ask about the
-
communication from our hearts. Here's the question, is your
-
heart full of good treasure or evil treasure?
-
Now he tells us real specifically.
-
And I thought this interesting and being as my boy Brandon is
-
here tonight, he won't remember this, but I tell this story
-
often outside of his presence. But one day we were sitting
-
upstairs. We were upstairs and he comes
-
and he's holding this book. He goes, this is the dumbest
-
name of a book I've ever seen. I said, what's the name of the
-
book? And he said, thesaurus.
-
And I go, well, that means you don't know what that means.
-
That's a Greek word and it means a collection or a a, a
-
collection of precious and valuable things.
-
A thesaurus. I know you don't remember it.
-
I remember it like yesterday. OK, All right.
-
And and I, I thought it was so funny because in the Greek, the
-
word treasure is the word thesaurus.
-
It means a place which are good precious things are collected
-
and laid up. OK, now think about it.
-
A thesaurus that he was holding in his hand was a collection of
-
some things. And in matter of fact, it is the
-
only thing that we call a thesaurus.
-
It was a collection of words, right?
-
OK, so you, when you think about it, that when Jesus talked
-
about, Jesus talked about, he said thesaurus.
-
He said, you know, it is a it is a collection.
-
It is something valuable, it's something precious, but it's a
-
collection that is laid up. Now when we take a look at that,
-
he said, he said for the tree is known by its fruit.
-
OK, And we could say your heart is known by the fruit.
-
And what did he say? He said out of the abundance of
-
the heart, we're going to hear it out of your mouth.
-
All right, so in Galatians Chapter 5, we find out what
Galatians 5 chapter mention
-
good, good fruit looks like, don't we?
-
He said the fruit of the spirit is Lovejoy, peace,
-
long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness,
-
temperance. Against such there is no law.
-
So he tells you that if you have a good heart, the words that
-
ought to be coming out of your mouth are going to be that set
-
of words. All right, And they have songs
-
about it, you know, in our kids ministry and and everything like
-
that. But let's what about an evil
-
heart? Listen to this Matthew chapter
-
15 verses 18 and 19. All right, He said, but those
-
things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart and
-
they defile a man. For out of the heart precedes
-
evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications,
-
thefts, fault fault witnesses and blasphemies.
-
Notice in there. He said, I, I looked at the two
-
and I said, well, you know, as far as the word thefts, that
-
there's a lot of people that I know in business that have been
-
thieves with their words, such as tell you one thing and do
-
something different or say this is the quote and then make up
-
stuff to have the quote be higher than it was.
-
Oh, well, we forgot about this. Oh, we didn't know about this.
-
Oh, we did. You got to be careful because it
-
it it looks like you're lying. You got to be careful of that.
-
Know your stuff, all right, Know what's on the inside.
-
OK, now you know, here's another way.
-
And, and one thing that I I think that I could be as pastor
-
said it don't be proud. Be pleased with yourself, All
-
right, is that I have never had to communicate using profanity.
-
OK, now I've had a lot of Christians use profanity on me.
-
And then they would maybe apologize and call it French,
-
Pardon my French, OK? And it's just a cuss word is
-
what it is. And you know, I heard one time
-
one guy said they said don't worry about it.
-
If it wasn't in there, it wouldn't have come out.
-
And I said, oh, man, you know, But I've never had to correct
-
anybody, you know, I haven't had to be harsh.
-
I hadn't had to be critical or arrogant about them, all right?
-
I just basically set them down and we're going to talk about
-
this, You know, what you did wrong or what I'm doing wrong or
-
why were we not getting along all right?
-
But you don't have to use profanity on it because to me
-
that loses credibility if you can't communicate using the
-
English language in its pure form.
-
All right, then you know, I, I wouldn't call you a good
-
communicator. There's been a lot of public
-
speakers that I have not listened to any longer because
-
they just choose the word words of profanity, every other word,
-
just whether they think they're cute, whether they're trying to
-
make a point. You can do it without it.
-
So you got to watch out what's what's on the inside.
-
Now, here's one thing in communication that you can have
-
a reputation that when they see you, all right, they might have
-
just two thoughts. That's it.
-
When they see you coming, OK, One of pain and the other of
-
pleasure. I prefer that when somebody sees
-
me, they're excited to visit with me, whatever I got.
-
I mean, my reputation is one of a storyteller even among the
-
littles, OK? But it's kind of funny because
-
I've had people so excited for me to come into their office and
-
sit down. We going to talk about business
-
that tell me what happened lately and I'll have something.
-
I'll always have something. Oh, man, I was, you know, out
-
here doing this and I did this and fell out of this and tripped
-
over this and and all kind of stuff.
-
I mean, you know, not too long ago, Cassie, were you with me?
-
I don't know anybody else in here with me when I went
-
crashing over the the Dolly, you know, and, and, and it was, it
-
was horrific, man. I mean, and it was so funny.
-
I'm on the phone. I'm talking to Thaddeus, right,
-
about something we need to fix. Well, they had hung a drape in
-
the T-shirt shop, OK, in there. And I busted through that, not
-
realizing that my grandchildren had taken a 2, you know, a 2
-
Wheeler and pulled it out right behind that.
-
So I didn't know. And I come through there and
-
flipped over the top of that, held onto the phone, finish the
-
phone call. I'm taking inventory 'cause I'm
-
hurting. And I got a couple places that
-
are ringing out louder than the other places. 1 was my elbow,
-
right? And when everybody, you know,
-
and the whole bit, I had the phone still in my hand, I called
-
Josh, Josh, come get me. I, I, I have fallen and I can't
-
get up. And he comes in there and I got
-
one leg up on the the cart itself.
-
I got the other ones and I'm twisted all up and he goes, what
-
happened? I said, I ain't blaming nobody.
-
I said just help me get up and get seated.
-
OK. So he gets me out, brings me in
-
one of those chairs right in front of your office, right,
-
Right in front. And I'm sitting there.
-
I got this, I got this golf ball growing out of my arm.
-
You remember that and I mean, it was big as a golf ball.
-
I'm not as it not joking. I mean, I got a witness.
-
She was looking at that. She's going, man, I'm going to
-
try everything I can to help you get over that.
-
You know, I'm walking around looking like Popeye, you know,
-
got that knot on my elbow. I had a skin on my I skipped my
-
knee up, you know, because there's no carpet or nothing.
-
It's concrete and I'm like, you know, and and you know, what is
-
the deal about that? You tell that story and people
-
start laughing and it wasn't that funny, but it is now.
-
It's it's every accident I've ever had in my life.
-
Because, you know, I've told you about Melanie.
-
That's how I found out how this relationships going to go.
-
Randy's going to come near death, OK, in an accident.
-
And she's going to laugh us all the way to the hospital 'cause I
-
did it one night. I hit my thumb with a hammer and
-
I look it up at her, 'cause she's sitting on the porch and
-
I'm putting stairs down it and it and it's getting dark and I
-
can't hardly see. And I hit that wrong nail.
-
I just, I just dropped the hammer, grabbed it tight as I
-
could. Blood's coming out everywhere.
-
And she looks and just bust up laughing.
-
And I just looked at her and fell over.
-
And I'm laying there in the front yard.
-
It's getting dark. I don't feel like moving every
-
every inch of my body is trying to work a plan that I don't want
-
to participate in. Like get you got to get up, man.
-
You got to get up. I don't want to get up.
-
I mean, until the pain stops, which pain ain't going to stop,
-
right? And I'm bleeding over
-
everything, you know, finally get in to see how bad it was
-
bad, wrap it up, you know, the whole bit.
-
But I mean, I don't, I can't tell you how many times I've
-
hurt myself. And she just thinks it's the
-
funniest thing. I just, I, I don't get that,
-
man. I'm feeling sorry for people,
-
you know, I'm trying to help them with the pain management
-
and stuff. All right.
-
So, you know, that's the thing that we, we want, we want to be,
-
is that when people see us coming, that we have something
-
that we know we're going to talk about, something that we're
-
going to discuss that, you know, and, and, and because you're a
-
pleasant person, the inside portrays how you're going to
-
talk, how you talk to your customers.
-
How do you talk to your vendors? How do you talk to them?
-
How you, are you having a good day?
-
You know, asking them. Those are important.
-
Let me give you consideration #2 all right, that we will
-
accomplish most of our expectations if we're consistent
-
with our communication. All right, now that you know,
-
consistent, listen to this. If you want to be consistent,
-
you need to be agreeing. You need to be compatible, not
-
self contradictory. That was my favorite definition.
-
All right, constantly adhering to the same principles, holding
-
firmly together. Let me read them again.
-
If you want to be a consistent communicator, you've got to be
-
agreeing, OK? You've got to be agreeing with
-
yourself mostly, all right, compatible, not self
-
contradictory, constantly adhering to the same principles,
-
holding the holding firmly together.
-
You know, when you're monitoring expectations and, and you see,
-
you know, someone taking a variation of what you've been
-
talking about, you know, you need to, you need to ask them a
-
question. And usually what this question
-
will be is that, you know, you ask them, OK, why did we do
-
this, this way? OK, you, you want to know what
-
is it that I didn't communicate? What is it that we're going to
-
do? And I, and I, and when I have
-
some of the young people working for me, whether it's in the, in
-
the, the T-shirt shop or whatever the case may be, I'll
-
give you another illustration from communication.
-
I mean, I, I showed one, one of our little team members how we
-
do certain things, burning a screen, getting it ready to go
-
to print and the different things like that.
-
Got it ready to go. And I'm sitting there, you know,
-
doing some calculations on some of the shirts and all the stuff
-
that we've got to have. And I thought it was interesting
-
is that she came in and she said, listen, she said, you
-
know, that film positive, that thing that had that we're
-
supposed to be shooting it is, is like rising up off of the
-
table. And I go, what?
-
I mean, I can't even picture this.
-
She goes, I don't know. It's it's it's rising up off of
-
the table. And I'm thinking, I've never
-
seen anything like this. And I go in there and she had
-
forgotten to put the plate glass on top of it to hold it down.
-
And the heat was making it turn into a piece of bacon and no big
-
deal. I mean, it's the first time it
-
ever happened. I call it an incident, not a
-
problem, all right, and we got a little incident, OK, So hey,
-
let's let's let's remember, let's put the glass on top of
-
it. It'll protect it, the piece of
-
plastic and the whole bit. You'll be fine, OK.
-
And so about 1520 minutes later comes in, said it's doing it
-
again, OK, So when you hear somebody, somebody, somebody,
-
somebody say it's happening again, it is just turned from an
-
incident to a problem. We got a problem, OK?
-
So I went back there and this was a time for communication,
-
all right, and continuous communication.
-
But I asked them, I said, tell me what can we do to make sure
-
this never happens again? What do we need to do?
-
Give me some ideas. Now be young.
-
To be young and inexperienced means that you really haven't
-
used your mind a whole lot. You might have used it in school
-
'cause we got a test coming, right?
-
But real life, everyday problems, all right?
-
I found it very difficult for their age group, which was, you
-
know, mid high school to come up with a solution.
-
I say, come on, give me something, communicate, talk to
-
me. I I just don't know.
-
And I said, you mean to tell me you can't tell me one thing that
-
you could do that would remind you never to forget the glass.
-
No, I don't have anything. I don't have anything.
-
And I said, go get me a Sharpie. I took that Sharpie and right
-
there there's a beam, wooden beam where the place that they
-
set all this and to the hot lamps that basically metal
-
highlight shop shop lamps. OK, that's what's cooking
-
everything, right? And I wrote on that wooden beam,
-
do not forget glass exclamation point.
-
I said, will that help you? I mean, it's like the last thing
-
you see before you turn that light switch on.
-
They go, that's a really good idea.
-
Well, the sad part was they didn't come up with it all
-
right, because if you here's the thing about it, if you come up
-
with an idea to solve a problem, you own it and and and I don't
-
expect anything different out of you from here on.
-
Now have they ever done it again?
-
No, but the next person in line did it.
-
I'm thinking, how do you guys come up with this?
-
All right, so when we, when we talk about, you know, as far as
-
being consistent, the the main thing that you'll hear when you
-
have to go, you know, say why did this happen?
-
What happened? What did we do?
-
You're going to hear 2 words basically I forgot, OK?
-
Those are the the most common Get Me Out of trouble words on
-
the planet is that if you mess up something, all you have to do
-
is say, man, I'm sorry, I forgot.
-
All right, now let me give you some things to help you with the
-
I forgot people, OK, All right, you got a meeting, you got a
-
project, you got something. Number one, is this all right?
-
Have everything that is going to be discussed in writing ready to
-
hand it out. We're going to make some
-
changes. I I'm not sure we're going to do
-
it before the end of the year, but definitely after the first
-
of the year is I want to go start doing handouts that you
-
can fill in the blank with me. OK, because you'll remember it a
-
lot better. OK, because not everybody's the
-
greatest, you know, note taker in in the whole world.
-
I understand that. All right, so I'm going to give
-
you something to take notes on. Now, you know, some of you may
-
have your only one guy. Anybody got a computer on them
-
tonight? Are you using your phone?
-
OK, and you're using the computer.
-
You guys are using your phones and that's great.
-
But I'm going to give you paper because we're going back to
-
paper, you understand. All right, OK.
-
All right, so think about this. It said that, you know, you
-
furnish an outline agenda, make sure there's enough space, you
-
know, on that. If you're having a meeting with
-
somebody, make sure there's enough space they can take
-
notes, they'll cram everything together.
-
Just make it big enough that they can jot a note because
-
there may be same thing. Jot this down.
-
I say it all the time when I'm teaching.
-
Jot this down, write this down. All right.
-
And, and you want to, you know, make sure that they they
-
understand you are treating this piece of paper like a contract.
-
There's things I'm going to do and there's things you're going
-
to do I need from you. All right, Treat it like a
-
contract. You know, I remember when we
-
were interesting with the boys and they're getting too big to
-
spank, OK. And we were trying to figure out
-
in our own way without having to go to a psychologist and try to
-
figure out how to discipline these two because they were
-
always trying to kill each other, but they wouldn't let
-
nobody else do it, OK? I mean, they cats and dogs all
-
day. But if one of them got in a
-
scruffy with somebody, you know, in the youth group or whatever
-
the case may be, man, it's like, oh, you're going to have to take
-
us both, you know, and, and just defend each other.
-
I mean, biting and clawing and whatever.
-
And so when you, when you take a look at, at, you know, the, the
-
importance of discipline, you know, when they get to certain
-
ages, we, we did a contract with them, OK.
-
And, and in the early years, as they were getting older, we had
-
a contract that said, talking back to your mother is five
-
swats, man. So go ahead and give it a shot
-
and see if it doesn't come to pass.
-
And we had everything, everything that law they could
-
break had a penalty, OK. Then they get into their
-
teenage, we're driving years, right?
-
What something becomes more important than anything else on
-
the planet is car keys and cash. OK, So we had another contract,
-
OK. And the contract was you violate
-
this, you come in late, you talk back to your Mama.
-
What, 5 bucks? 10 bucks, whatever.
-
Now Josh went broke in one fell swoop.
-
All right? Wait.
-
Totally broke, no money could do nothing.
-
I said man, I said I'm just training you for what happens in
-
the future. I said beside and I ain't even
-
arrested you. I ain't even locked you up.
-
But when you go to court, there's only one thing you're
-
going to be locked up and or pay a fine and if they can get the
-
money out of you. So just get used to it.
-
This is how it goes from here on for you.
-
All right? So, you know, I told him, I
-
said, listen, you know, I want you to know that to hang on to
-
the papers, OK? Why?
-
Because we may have some amendments.
-
I mean, you know, we don't go into everything.
-
I know it all. We're going to do it this way.
-
Nothing else is going to change. That ain't true.
-
You may have to add you staple something to it, right?
-
All right. Now, I, I learned this quote.
-
Listen to this. Write this quote down.
-
This is going to be good for you.
-
All right? Pale ink is better than the most
-
retentive memory. That's why we ought to write
-
stuff down. Pale ink is better than the most
-
retentive memory. That was by a literary mentor by
-
named Harvey McKay, and I learned that from him.
-
I thought, man, that that's got to be truth.
-
Even the dull pencil is better than the best memory.
-
All right, but he said pale ink. All right.
-
Now here's the second thing that that we can do on this
-
particular particular consideration, All right.
-
He says make sure that you have the thought process, you know,
-
processes out completely before starting to communicate them.
-
You want to make sure that you've thought it all out from
-
beginning. Then what could go wrong?
-
What could happen? What if they do this?
-
What if they do that? Because you're going to start
-
communicating how you want to see something done.
-
Now I think it's interesting because nothing.
-
And you remember when I said a minute ago in your communication
-
you need to be. And I and I had that one little
-
phrase and it was in there not self contradictory.
-
OK. One thing that is the
-
demotivator of all mankind is somebody saying this is how
-
we're going to do it and don't know what they're talking about.
-
You want to demote, you know, demotivate.
-
OK, people, go ahead and just cut, throw these plans out off
-
of your hip and see how well it gets done.
-
You want to make sure you've got everything thought through.
-
You don't want to demotivate people.
-
You want to inspire people to get to the the team goal.
-
All right, so he said, you know, one of the things I said, if I
-
hear someone say this and you've heard it all said, we need to
-
all get on the same page. Yeah, we do.
-
And the reason that they're saying that is somebody hadn't
-
explained the page. And so you've let them try to
-
determine whatever it is on their own.
-
And you're thinking, no, I just, you know, I don't want to, I
-
don't want to be able to be somebody that communicates like
-
that. I want it.
-
I want it to be that we're all on the same page.
-
We all have the same page. We don't have cartoons drawn on
-
the page. All right?
-
We want to make sure we've got the accurate data that we want
-
to have. OK, here's the third thing is
-
understanding this, OK, And, and I learned this and, and one time
-
completely blew my mind. Flexibility, OK, is a key to the
-
success of in, in any endeavor. OK, flexibility is the key to
-
the success of any endeavor. All right, you've got to be
-
flexible because sometimes things don't work out like
-
you've exactly planned. All right, throw in a fit, you
-
know, pulling on stuff on the inside that haven't, having a
-
custom fit, having whatever should never come out of us as
-
Kingdom citizens ever, OK? I mean, I had it when I was
-
early in my screen printing commercial career.
-
Had a guy that played at the, the station KXOJ everyday KCFO.
-
These were Christian stations and he played them all the time.
-
OK. One day, you know, we were, we
-
were working and he's been witnessing to the boss's son,
-
you know, trying to tell him, hey, you know, you need to
-
believe in Jesus. You need to, you know, I said I
-
agree. I mean, you know, I'm a, I'm a
-
believer. I'm, I'm going to church and,
-
and I have my whole life, I've never had a time in my life
-
where I wasn't going to church. I didn't think it was an option.
-
I considered it as part of my duty as a Christian to be
-
involved in a church. And I was.
-
And so, you know, everybody in the place knew it.
-
And and then one day this guy that, you know, preached it real
-
loud and put on a radio real loud, you know, messed up
-
something and went into a cussing fit.
-
And I just felt like somebody gave me a black eye, you know,
-
I'm thinking, oh, great, now this is going to be a hard one
-
to explain. And sure enough, I had to
-
explain it because the boss's son says, now look at there,
-
that's why I don't want to be a Christian man.
-
He said, you know, he talks about this and all this and he
-
made his life better and stuff. And he acts like everybody else
-
when something goes wrong. I said, I'm sorry about that.
-
I said, because that is not the way that we as Christians are
-
supposed to respond after we make a mistake or after
-
something doesn't go the way we plan.
-
You got to be flexible. I mean, we, we need to be the
-
most flexible people. And if we're not, guess what
-
happens? If you get something, you're
-
trying to flex it, and they don't want to flex, it's going
-
to snap. That's what he did that day.
-
He snapped and just spewed all kind of filth all over the
-
house. And I'm thinking, man, come on,
-
give me a break. All right?
-
You know, I said, we got enough problems as it is.
-
We don't need to be covering for you now, right?
-
And so, you know, every plan of pursuit that we have, it's not
-
going to be perfect. You know, most of us, you know,
-
we have the, we don't have the ability, we don't have the
-
ability to see into the future of every little thing,
-
especially when you have people around you that you're trying to
-
bring in on the same project. Everybody's going to come from a
-
different background. Everybody may have their own
-
opinion and you know, different things.
-
Now, I think it's interesting because, you know, I've had
-
times where I said listen and, and I've got my my team together
-
in Oklahoma and I said, this is how we do this.
-
OK. And I am open to ideas.
-
If you have a better way to do it that will save us time or
-
money, come see me immediately. I may give you an opportunity to
-
give it a shot, but know this, if it doesn't work, we're going
-
back to the way we've done it. OK, Always be flexible about
-
that. I remember one time we'd flown
-
back to Oklahoma and these guys were printing what we call right
-
of way markers and their pipeline companies that have
-
warning pipeline and they have a for emergency call number on it
-
has a logo on it has a do not dig logo.
-
You know what a do not dig is, you know, has a shovel and all
-
that 811 and all that stuff. And, and we were printing them
-
and they were like 3 different colors.
-
They had the logo of the company, the whole bit.
-
Well, usually we'd make a screen for each color.
-
We'd have to line it up, get it all going and I'm back there
-
and, and I'm watching them print them and I go, wait a second,
-
where's the other screens? They said, oh, we don't, we, we
-
don't do three color screens on this one.
-
We can actually paint out the image that we don't want to
-
print with this stuff and it dries and it prints.
-
And then we can take water and wash it all out and we keep the
-
same screen and we just wash out and we just paint out the other
-
section. I looked at that dude and I
-
said, you are a genius. I said, man, I would have never
-
thought of that in a million years because why?
-
I was always stuck in the way we always did it and and the way we
-
always did it always worked. So some people aren't, you know,
-
wanting to, when they have a, you know, a team they're trying
-
to create or whatever the case may be, is being flexible enough
-
to let somebody, you know, come in and, and, and, and suggest
-
something or try something. Because guess what?
-
If you come up with the idea, you own it.
-
So I didn't have to, I didn't have to beg him to do it
-
anymore. That was his that was his idea
-
gave them, you know, big, big applause, everybody you know,
-
and you know going from there. But here's the thing I'm glad of
-
second Timothy. Jot this one down.
-
Second Timothy chapter 3 verse 16.
-
You know the Scripture well, he said all Scripture is given by
-
inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for
-
reproof, correction for instruction in righteous living.
-
Here's the thing about the word Scripture.
-
It's it. The Greek word is the word
-
graffe and the definition means document.
-
It does not have anything deity related to the word.
-
It is just the simple Greek word for a document.
-
Now notice this document lets us know what's available in it.
-
It tells us that we can we can use it and be profitable for
-
doctrine. We can reprove or we can
-
correct. But I love it.
-
Instruction in righteous living is in this document.
-
If you want everybody on the same page, use that document.
-
You know what I'm glad about? I'm glad that God didn't think
-
you know what I'm going to tell him one time and they better get
-
it. No, He moved on men, to record
-
it for us for thousands of years so there'd be no variation or
-
deviation from the original plan.
-
He let us know how everything went down in the garden.
-
He let us know how he got everything headed back the right
-
direction. Let us know about all of our
-
patriarchs and matriarchs and, and how you know they were all
-
precursors and getting ready for the king to come back to buy it
-
all back for us and buy us back. I'm glad that he had it, the
-
plan and the outcome written down.
-
Amen. All right, consideration #3 all
-
right, jot this down. There is not one of us that is
-
as good as all of us, all right, When we're trying to communicate
-
our team, we need to realize this.
-
We have two ears and one mouth and that we need to be
-
listening, OK. I, I think that listening to
-
others is a key of achieving, achieving any desired goal.
-
We have just listening to others, you know, and making
-
sure that, that we give the people the chance and, and, and,
-
and and and making sure that they understand.
-
We, we heard what they said. Some people are just want an
-
opportunity to be heard, OK? They want somebody that cares
-
enough to sit down and listen. You know, I've jokingly told
-
people before, you know, I said be careful when you come up to
-
somebody at church and say how you doing unless you got time to
-
really hear it, OK, You know, because you know, they they can
-
lay it all on you. And I've had it, I've done it.
-
I would not follow my own advice.
-
How you doing? Oh man, and go on.
-
Here we go. And I'm not leaving them until
-
they're done. I mean, you know, and if I need
-
to get with them, I say, you know what you need to go see or
-
we need to get together and we can, we can work this out and
-
see if we have any challenges that we could work out, you
-
know, in there. And the, and The thing is, is
-
using everybody in the body of Christ.
-
What am I looking for? I'm looking for somebody in my
-
mind that has gone through what they're going through that I can
-
get them with. Now, if you failed in what you
-
were going through, I'm not going to put them with you, OK,
-
I'm going to put them with somebody that been there and did
-
it and made it and it was good. All right, That's what you want.
-
That's like going to, you know, a a divorce counselor that's
-
been divorced full time. Well, you know, I'm sure that
-
you might have some advice on maybe not what to do or what not
-
to do, all right, But I don't know that I would put my entire
-
life into their hands. OK, so it's, it's the same thing
-
as that. We've got to we've got to depend
-
on each other. Another scripture, Proverbs
-
11/14, you know, and throughout Scripture it it it bears out
-
1114 says where no counsel is the people fall, they fail.
-
OK, he said. But at a multitude of
-
counselors, there's safety. You know, the importance of each
-
other. You know, also comes first
1 Corinthians 12 chapter mention
-
Corinthians chapter 12. Write it down.
-
First Corinthians chapter 12. All right.
1 Corinthians 12 chapter mention
-
And in verse 20, he said, but now there are many members.
-
You can say team members, but only one body or one team, you
-
said. And whether they're one team
-
member suffer, all team members suffer with it.
-
If one member be honored, then all team members rejoice with
-
it. Now you are the body of Christ
-
and a team member in particular. I added the team.
-
OK, All right. He lets us know how important we
-
are to each other, that not one of us as good as all of us, all
-
right, because of experience and opportunity and the things that
-
we want to accomplish. You know, we just got to find
-
those people that have that same desire, the drive.
-
They don't want to just sit around and watch the world go
-
by. They want to be part of making
-
the world OK. And so when we we talk about
-
that, I love that whole passage because it even talks about
-
weaker members, that there's some weak members that come in
-
and they looking around and they see all these people that
-
supposedly look like they have it all together.
-
And they say we won't make it. And we grab hold of them and we
-
make them part of our team. We make them part of what's
-
going on and we help them grow to their level instead of, you
-
know, saying, aye, no, you know, too bad, you know, And they look
-
at it. They look at people.
-
And he said, no. He said Jesus took those people
-
in and welded them to us, is what the Bible says.
-
They're welded to us just like your little toe.
-
You don't want to function without your little toe.
-
In fact, you don't want to injure your little toe, which
-
I've done many times, always at the foot of the bed.
-
You know, I mean, I don't know what the deal is.
-
You don't want to mess up with your foot.
-
You don't want to, you know, accidentally step on a bunch of
-
Legos in the middle of the night.
-
He'll wake everybody up, you know, serious.
-
I mean, you know, Yeah, little, I don't know if you remember,
-
the ones that got me the most, the embedded in my foot were
-
called micro machines, OK. I mean, you can run one of them
-
up Plumb to your neck, stepping on it.
-
It just like leaving them around, you know?
-
And I'm thinking, no, your body knows.
-
And and when it said when one member suffer, we all suffer.
-
It's just like a team. I mean, you know, Kansas City
-
lost the Super Bowl, right? Everybody was sad on that team.
-
They I mean, think about it. We all suffered all together,
-
every one of us, you know, and that's the thing he said, have
-
the same care one for another, you know, don't be so concerned.
-
Paul talks about it all the time.
-
Don't be so concerned about what you got going on, you know,
-
because we're going to talk about that in the future is and,
-
and, and we're going over some lessons on your why.
-
Why are you in business? You know, the why shouldn't be
-
for you. The why is for the same reason
-
God's in business people. I mean, if money was such a big
-
deal, we'd get to take it with us.
-
But guess what? We don't.
-
There's only one thing we can take with us.
-
It's each other and how many others God wants in the Kingdom
-
that we've got to be ready for. OK, let me give you
-
consideration #4 we'll wrap it up tonight, all right?
-
Poor communication usually will result in misalignment of team
-
goals. Poor communication will usually
-
result in a misalignment of team goals.
-
You'll have things shooting off over here and over here and over
-
here, you know, says. And, and here's the thing that's
-
very important, all right? Is everybody on your team,
-
everybody you're dealing with OK?
-
They need to. If you're the head, if you're
-
the leader, they need to be speaking like you speak.
-
We don't have no rogue speakers. You need to through these
-
meetings and I'm talking about giving them papers and you're
-
going to have to, you know, say, listen, you're communicating.
-
And this is what we want communicated to vendors, to
-
whoever it is we're talking to. We want you to communicate like
-
this and make it very clear right now.
-
I think it's interesting because I had an example on this one.
-
Somebody very close to us was in line getting something to eat.
-
And I guess it was the woman in front of her.
-
She said, got up to the counter and said, yeah, I'd like to
-
order this, this and this. And the lady just kind of
-
snapped at her youngster, snapped at her and says it is
-
not, it is breakfast time now. It is not lunch time.
-
And the woman said, well, I come in here every day at this time
-
and it's never been a problem to make.
-
And it was salad or something. And then she goes, I'm sorry,
-
you're just going to have to come back.
-
A woman left. I wonder if she's going to come
-
back or not. I wonder if that was the last
-
straw on the camel's back. Now, if I'd have been in line, I
-
would have called the owner because I know him personally.
-
And I'll just ask him the question.
-
I said, hey, I saw this at your store and I just wondered, is
-
this the way you want your people to talk to your
-
customers, OK. Because apparently somebody went
-
rogue and decided that they were going to tell them whatever it
-
is that they needed to. But I don't think that being as
-
I know him that he would want that, you know what I'm saying?
-
So you have to be real careful. And I am going to do a lesson
-
eventually on talking about, you know, handling problem people.
-
OK, people that, you know, customers.
-
I got 1 illustration left for that for tonight and I'll give
-
it to you. But you know, The thing is that,
-
you know, we have if AI get a photo, if I get a, a note or I
-
get a phone call, even living down here and somebody says
-
we're, we've got a situation we think you need to handle.
-
All right, I immediately know they have done everything they
-
know that I would have done and I had this one customer and they
-
were reaming my help up and down over a little order, a little
-
order. We met, we were, we manufactured
-
decals for American Airlines, OK.
-
They made air, air travel cases, real high dollar vacuum formed
-
and everything and they had to have this sticker on it.
-
This company sold about 100 of those a year is all all right
-
and we've provided the sticker. Well, we printed the wrong
-
sticker, 100 a year. It was just 100 stickers fit in
-
a glad snack bag in your hand. And they they said you might
-
need to call her. She is irate.
-
We've never dealt with anybody. I said over that little sticker.
-
Did you tell her that you'd do them again?
-
And she said, yeah, we tried to and and she just, I don't
-
understand how you can let something like this happen.
-
I don't even believe. What are you guys doing down
-
there? I said, OK, I'm coming back to
-
the office. I need you to print 200 of them
-
stickers, get them ready for me because it wouldn't take a
-
second. They printed them, gave me the
-
bag. I went over to the place.
-
I walked in the front door and she started in on me and I just
-
let her go. Just come on, let me have it.
-
Every bit of it. You hate my guts.
-
I know. Let's go.
-
Finally wore out. Standing there, like what are
-
you going to say? Like I'm going to get in a fist
-
fight with you, lady. I'm not going to get in a fist
-
fight. I said, I can't ask you enough
-
to forgive us for this mistake. I have in my hand the correct
-
stickers, not just 100, but I have 200 of them.
-
And I said, and I wish you'd do me a favor.
-
And she said, what is that? I said well the next time that
-
you all have an HR meeting to hire people and you find
-
somebody that on their application you write the word
-
perfect and you can't hire them, send them to me because I tell
-
you what, I don't have one perfect person in my company.
-
But boy, they sure try. She couldn't say nothing.
-
She said as a matter of fact, I'll never forget what she said.
-
As a matter of fact, we don't have any perfect people.
-
Here I go, OK, so will you accept our apology?
-
Yes, I'll accept it. Gave her the stickers.
-
Now there was a plan in 200 stickers instead of 100 that I
-
wouldn't have to come and see your face for another year.
-
There's always a plan, all right.
-
But you know, the Bible's true. It said a soft answer turns
-
away, right. So I could have got up in her
-
face. And, you know, I, I could have,
-
I I could have said, well, you know, I've never seen nobody an
-
adult body whine and carry on like you're, you know, I could
-
have gone on, man. I could have just let her have
-
it all. But that's not what I wanted to
-
do. I wanted to make.
-
We made the mistake. I went up to it.
-
It's OK. I'm here.
-
I've got more than what you. I want you to be glad we made it
-
because now you don't have to pay for 100 of them for a whole
-
year. It's good, right?
-
You know, but The thing is, it's in communication.
-
It's how we carry ourselves. What's on the inside?
-
You nasty? You mean you want to be mean,
-
like Pastor, you want a piece of me?
-
No, I mean, I don't personally. OK.
-
All right. So, you know, when you talk
-
about you, you, you discuss those things.
-
I just, I want to remind you as we close that, you know,
-
comprehension. Comprehension is what we're
-
looking for. You know, we get our kids to
-
read and they can pronounce the words and they're going, but we
-
don't know if they're comprehending what they're
-
reading. Like the story, what we want to
-
do is we want to be able to communicate in a way that they
-
comprehend what we're saying. And then when we all get down to
-
the end of the conveyor belt, we see exactly what we want to see.
-
So let me give you the last phrase.
-
Pictures in our communication assist with a comprehension of
-
words. If you want them to comprehend
-
what you said, paint them a picture.
-
Hopefully I tried a little of that tonight.
-
All right, everybody good. All right, we got 2 minutes.
-
I'm going to pray and then you got anything.
-
OK, we're good. All right, Father, we thank you
-
and praise you for the opportunity to just communicate
-
tonight. Hallelujah.
-
And that we just take note of those things on how we're doing
-
in the world because we're probably going to be in these
-
last days ready to communicate like we never have been before.
-
So we want to be able to to bring up those testimonies and
-
bring up those things that you have done for us so that we can
-
let people know that we do are witnesses of yours because of
-
what you've done for us. So Father, let us be good, good
-
communicators. Let us paint pictures.
-
Let us be sensitive to your spirit to paint the picture that
-
you need painted to to make it convincing in the lives of those
-
around us. And Father, we want to give you
-
praise because you are the great communicator and we're thankful
-
that you did and that we understood what you were talking
-
about and accepted your call, Father, that we'd be able to
-
make Jesus Lord. And we thank you for it in Jesus
-
name, Amen.
