  1. You have your Bibles turn over to Matthew chapter 15 and verse

    Matthew 15 chapter mention

  2. 315, verse 3. Today I want to talk to you

  3. about more than conversion, All right?

  4. There's some things that are stirring in my spirit concerning

  5. the disciple that I really think that we need to minister on.

  6. Because again, if we are a church planning church and we

  7. are, there are things that Jesus intended to do or intended his

  8. church to be doing because He said that he would build his

  9. church. And so we need to look at it

  10. because we've said this for so many years.

  11. And for some of you who have been with us for multiple years,

  12. you know that we've used this particular verse to launch out

  13. on things because, you know, we need to allow God to define the

  14. terms because He is the Word. John 11 says in the beginning

  15. was the word in the Word was with God, in the Word was God.

  16. And honestly, the Bible actually does define itself.

  17. We do not need any other commentary, honestly, to

  18. interpret the Bible itself will interpret itself.

  19. It's its greatest source. OK.

  20. And so, you know, instead of us bringing our ideas from the

  21. world and trying to explain what's going on, let's just ask

  22. the author. You know, you've heard me say

  23. this before. We've put in print 8 books.

  24. We're working on another one right now that we, you know,

  25. it's basically complete to get out, which is Dominion Air.

  26. And then Capacity is actually completed.

  27. It's just hasn't been edited. And so, and then we're working

  28. on another Facebook that's a collaboration between my wife

  29. and I as well. That's that we want to be able

  30. to bring out. So, you know, the book writing

  31. still in play, even though we haven't, you know, release 1

  32. little bit. But you know, if you go and

  33. purchase one of our books, you know, from guest relations and

  34. you read it, you know, you can always go and say, you know, I

  35. believe the author in this paragraph meant this and you

  36. could do that. Maybe you'll be right.

  37. But you could just come ask me, because if you come ask me, I'll

  38. say, well, this is what I meant because I authored it, right?

  39. Well, guess what? We have the Holy Ghost and the

  40. Holy Ghost moved upon men. It's not of any one man's

  41. interpretation, but as the Spirit moved upon them because

  42. the Spirit was actually there. When David fought Goliath, he

  43. was personally present. I mean, he can give details that

  44. he didn't even release in the pages.

  45. He could allow you to know exactly how tall, you know,

  46. Goliath was and how many hairs were on his head at the time

  47. that David struck him down. He could do that.

  48. I mean, he could, you know, reveal he is the author.

  49. And so we need to say, OK, if we're saying terms or we're

  50. expressing things, is it in line with Scripture?

  51. Because a lot of times we'll redefine the author's words to

  52. fit our way of living for him. And again, you know, the reason

  53. why we do that's because we were living without him at one time

  54. anyway, and we were sometimes even trying to live for Him in

  55. our own strength, only to find out it wasn't the right way.

  56. And so, you know, as a result of that, we'll go into the Bible

  57. and we'll read words and based upon what society is saying

  58. about things, we'll start interpreting those words with

  59. some society definitions when we really have to say Now, Lord,

  60. what do you mean? And do you explain this?

  61. OK. And so Jesus is addressing this

  62. in Matthew chapter 15, verse 3, actually 2 religious people,

    Matthew 15:3

  63. people who had documentations of the written word of God that was

  64. inspired by God, that the Holy Spirit moved upon Moses, which

  65. the law came from, and then prophet.

  66. So the writings were beyond just the first five books, what we

  67. call the the Pentateuch or, or the, yeah, you know, the first

  68. five books of the Bible that Moses penned.

  69. So at the end of the day, there's more than that because

  70. they're looking at the prophets as well, both major and minor

  71. prophets, and they're hearing things.

  72. And they were tasked and actually had the ability to have

  73. the Holy Ghost come upon them to rightly divide what they should

  74. be saying. But Jesus is having to correct

  75. them. And he says this.

  76. And he answered and said, why do you yourselves transgress the

  77. commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?

  78. Now they we open up this chapter because they are correcting

  79. Jesus that his disciples do not follow a particular washing of

  80. utensils. And Jesus is like, why do you

  81. want me to keep your man made stuff?

  82. I mean, you keep your man made stuff and disregard God's stuff

  83. and that happens in our society today where people are keeping

  84. their man made stuff, but really just disregarding God's stuff.

  85. And so in order to know whether it's a man made or a God, you

  86. have to go to God's book. Then if we jump down into verse

  87. 7, Jesus says this, you know, flowing into context.

  88. He says, you hypocrites rightly did Isaiah prophecy of you.

  89. This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far

  90. away from me. But in vain do they worship Me,

  91. teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.

  92. Now you need to stop for a moment.

  93. Ask the question, Don't gloss over this scripture.

  94. What does that look like? What does a person look like who

  95. has honor in their lips but not in their heart?

  96. What does their worship look like?

  97. What does that look like? Now again, many of us be like,

  98. well, they wouldn't be in church.

  99. These people were in the synagogues.

  100. These people were assembling somewhere.

  101. These people were had a following of people of which

  102. they were instructing them. And those people that they were

  103. instructing were accomplishing are doing the things they're

  104. telling them to do. And yet Jesus is saying, you've

  105. missed the mark. What your followers are doing is

  106. really a precept of man. And it's not even a doctrine of

  107. God. Now, how do you know the

  108. difference? Aren't you glad for the Holy

  109. Spirit? Amen.

  110. You can know the difference because we have the Holy Ghost,

  111. but Jesus lets us know there will be groups of people who

  112. assemble that to him. It's hypocritical, and you've

  113. got to be able to identify that now.

  114. You won't identify if you're not trained in righteousness, if

  115. you're not trained, or if you live life merely as a convert.

  116. Turn over to Matthew 2313, Matthew 2313.

  117. Again, Jesus dealing with the religious, He said, but woe to

  118. you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off

  119. the Kingdom of heaven from people, for you do not enter it

  120. yourself, nor do you allow those who are entering it.

  121. They are so aggravated and angry at things being rightly divided

  122. because it goes against their traditions that they get in

  123. opposition. Are you hearing what I'm saying?

  124. Jesus in an in a particular passage mentions this.

  125. He says, you know, don't, don't even don't even take thought of

  126. what they're he says, don't you understand?

  127. I am correcting their doctrine and because the disciples,

  128. disciples said, don't you know, the Pharisees are offended with

  129. what that statement he said, don't worry about it.

  130. He said they're going to be offended because they want their

  131. truth and not mine. They want to follow me on their

  132. terms and not on mine. They are taking my word and

  133. they're turning it to their favor to keep their lifestyle

  134. and say that they're honoring me.

  135. But I know their heart and the reality is most of you do.

  136. You don't know people's hearts. You don't know people's hearts,

  137. right? And so he's like dealing with

  138. them. He says, look, I'm trying, I'm

  139. trying to demonstrate. I'm trying to give the Kingdom

  140. to people and you're shutting it down.

  141. Now I've been to some places before where someone said, well,

  142. you know, let's just stay with Jesus Christ out on the cross

  143. and rose from the grave. Well, Jesus did die on the cross

  144. and he rose from the grave. And if you call on his name, you

  145. will be saved. But he said some more and the

  146. kingdom's deeper than that. And so the minute you're like,

  147. no, let's just stay here. Well, what are you doing?

  148. You're you're establishing A tradition that I do not want to

  149. go deeper. I do not want to understand

  150. revelation. I want to serve God or let him

  151. save me upon this position of how I'm living here.

  152. Because the deeper you go with God, the more and you're

  153. pruning, the more you're casting down, the more you're having to

  154. change your thinking, the more you're like, you know what, all

  155. these years I thought that was, you know, scriptural.

  156. You know, cleanliness is next to godliness.

  157. What? Hallelujah.

  158. It's all right if you look, as long as you don't touch.

  159. That's not in the Bible. Neither one of them say Amen.

  160. I mean, there's a lot we could say, right?

  161. But again, you have to have a hunger.

  162. You jump down to verse 15. He goes on and says this Woe to

  163. you, scribes, Pharisees, hypocrites.

  164. OK, verse 15, jump down to verse 15.

  165. He says, what do you scribes, Pharisees, hypocrites?

  166. Because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte,

  167. and when he becomes 1, you make him twice as much a son of hell

  168. as yourself. Well, what does that look like?

  169. Right? I mean, what does that look

  170. like? Well, proselyte, we don't really

  171. use this. This word is actually only used

  172. four times in the New Testament. And the word itself is not

  173. negative. The word by definition,

  174. literally just means convert. It means to convert.

  175. Are you hearing me? It means to convert.

  176. Now I'm going to put my glasses on so I can see it.

  177. An app, some Bible reading. Without it, I will not be able

  178. to read. OK.

  179. And so I want, I'm going to, I'm going to read what the biblical

  180. illustrator says concerning this particular passage of Scripture.

  181. OK, We are in Matthew 23, right in verse 15.

  182. Because tell me, you know, does this sound like today a

  183. proselyte, one that comes from a foreign nation, religion, or

  184. sect, to us a convert. Among the Jews there were two

  185. types of proselytes. Proselytes of righteousness, or

  186. those who wholly and fully embrace the Jewish religion, who

  187. were baptized, who are circumcised, and who conform to

  188. all the rights of the Mosaic institution.

  189. The second was the proselytes of the gate, or those who approved

  190. of the Jewish religion, renounce the Pagan superstitions and

  191. conform to some of the rights of the Jews.

  192. But we're not circumcised or baptized in essence.

  193. When he said, 2. Four more or twice the sun of

  194. hell, that is twice as bad. To be a child of hell was a

  195. Hebrew phrase signifying to be deserving of hell, to be awfully

  196. wicked. Jewish writers themselves say

  197. that the proselytes were scabs of Israel, and hindered the

  198. coming of the Messiah. By their great wickedness.

  199. The Pharisees gained them either to swell their own numbers, or

  200. to make gain by extorting their money under various pretenses,

  201. and when they had accomplished that they took no pains to

  202. instruct them or to restrain them.

  203. They had renounced their superstition, which they had

  204. before somewhat restrained them, but the Pharisee had given them

  205. no religion in its place to restrain them, and they were

  206. constantly left to the full indulgences of their vices.

  207. What does that mean? That means you're saved, and you

  208. can still do anything you want. They were a convert, but they

  209. weren't disciples. Are you hearing me, Audrey?

  210. Would you come hand me that mic please?

  211. Audrey has received a word from the Lord and when she was

  212. telling me about it, I said save it for service because what the

  213. Lord spoke to you will be applicable at a particular time

  214. when I minister. And I wanted to release what the

  215. Lord showed her because this is just a convert.

  216. So yesterday I was studying out and the Word in the Lord showed

  217. me the difference between Stillwater and flowing spring

  218. water in the natural. And when you have Stillwater, it

  219. sits stagnant and it harbors bacteria at harbors, fungus at

  220. harbors, disease and pests. But when you have the flowing

  221. water, the natural spring waters that flow through the earth, it

  222. actually gathers minerals and becomes pure.

  223. And it's just like the word. When you allow the washing of

  224. the water of the word to not become stagnant in your life,

  225. those impurities will be washed out of you.

  226. But then on the other hand, that natural water has electrolytes

  227. in it and it has potassium and sodium, calcium and magnesium.

  228. And those things are literally necessary for the functioning of

  229. your body. And when you have the spring

  230. water flowing through your body, those impurities are washed out

  231. and you're fully whole and you have everything you need.

  232. And it's just a an amazing comparison.

  233. It just blows my mind when God puts those things in the earth

  234. to just just confirm his word. And I'm just, I'm blessed.

  235. Amen. You know that you can take here

  236. you go. You can take natural water that

  237. when it is first in a place is good for a moment, but again, if

  238. it stays stagnant, at one point it was pure.

  239. But because of no more flow what was once pure.

  240. Which means if you were delivered out of a cesspool and

  241. you're brought into a clean pool, but you don't let it flow,

  242. then all of a sudden it will put build up bacteria once again,

  243. toxins will show up, contaminants will show up and

  244. it'll be no good. And this is the description, you

  245. become twice the sun of hell because now you, you are

  246. justified. Don't judge me.

  247. I asked Jesus into my heart. There was nothing I could do to

  248. earn it. There's nothing I have to do now

  249. that I'm in it. Was that what the scripture

  250. says? Is that what it says?

  251. And you know what's amazing to me?

  252. The more I'm in the Scripture, what used to be normal is

  253. absolutely abnormal in the Western church today.

  254. And the things that I'm actually teaching on right now this

  255. morning is elementary truth that we need to rediscover because we

  256. have accepted Stillwater. We're not letting it flow.

  257. In fact, I would say it this way.

  258. Today's proclaimed disciple wants fellowship without

  259. accountability and responsibility.

  260. They don't want to be accountable to no one or take

  261. the responsibility to serve anywhere.

  262. They just want a fellowship with everybody come and go where they

  263. when they want to do what they want to do with whom they want

  264. to do it with. And God's good with me.

  265. You can't tell me otherwise. Well, I'm not going to tell you

  266. otherwise. However, the Lord has things to

  267. say. In essence, they're serving the

  268. Lord on their terms, not his. And that's what a proselyte will

  269. do. A proselyte knows that they need

  270. to a convert. Most of us in conversion, we

  271. knew man, we're not right with God.

  272. We need something different. Then when Jesus is offered and

  273. you realize that's the way to go.

  274. If you repent, you come into His Kingdom.

  275. But if you only come in as a convert, then you can actually

  276. become twice the Son of hell. I say that because you'll

  277. proclaim to your workplace, your family and those around you,

  278. you're right with God, but you live like the rest of the world

  279. and that is very confusing to someone outside the Kingdom.

  280. Hallelujah. Now turn over to Matthew 16.

  281. Matthew 16. We'll jump in verse 16.

  282. Simon Peter answers Jesus because he's asking the

  283. question, you know, who do people say that I am?

  284. Now who do you say that I am? And Peter says you are the

  285. Christ, the Son of the living God.

  286. Christ is equivalent to the Hebrew word Messiah, which is

  287. the King, the anointed one, the king who's going to come and

  288. establish his Kingdom forever. Amen.

  289. And then Jesus in verse 18 says that he's Peter, which is Little

  290. Rock, which is interesting because again, it's Little Rock

  291. and Jesus is the capital rock. Peter's the small case rock.

  292. Same thing as Jesus is the capital king and we are the

  293. small case king. You get that.

  294. But he goes upon this rock, which is the revelation that I

  295. am the king, the Christ. OK, I will build my church.

  296. And the gates of hell or Hades will not overpower it.

  297. Aren't you glad of that? Hallelujah?

  298. He goes on then and says, now I'll give you the keys of the

  299. Kingdom. Now remember the Pharisees will

  300. stop you from entering the Kingdom of heaven.

  301. But Jesus said, I'll give you the keys of it.

  302. And whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven.

  303. Whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in

  304. heaven. So a Pharisee or religious

  305. teaching or conversion alone will not give you keys of the

  306. Kingdom. They'll give you this idea that

  307. no matter how you live, as long as you've asked Jesus into your

  308. heart, that's all that matters. Yet Jesus never preached that

  309. good news. Jesus preached the good news of

  310. his Kingdom and he said, I'm going to build my church.

  311. Now how does he build his church?

  312. He gives a mandate to those who he called his disciples.

  313. He did not call them his proselytes, He called them

  314. disciples. And disciples is defined way

  315. different than just a proselyte, cause the proselyte is a

  316. convert. Now do you need to be converted?

  317. Yes. The first step to discipleship

  318. is conversion. You must be converted.

  319. Converted or from the domain of darkness into the Kingdom of His

  320. beloved Son. You are to be changed from a

  321. spirit that is dead, separated from God, to have a new spirit

  322. that's alive to God. It is conversion.

  323. You are being converted. You are converting from your old

  324. way of living for yourself, and you're turning and living your

  325. life now for the one you have submitted to as supreme in

  326. authority. But that action of conversion is

  327. not the only thing Jesus wanted. Jesus required discipleship.

  328. He says this in Matthew chapter 28, verses 18 to 20.

    Matthew 28:18–20

  329. And Jesus came up and spoke to them saying all authority.

  330. How much authority? Remember he said, now my

  331. father's chosen gladly to give you the Kingdom.

  332. I'm going to build my church and I'm going to give you the keys

  333. of the Kingdom. I'm not going to hinder you from

  334. getting into the Kingdom. I want you in it and I want you

  335. operating in it. I want you functioning in it.

  336. I want you to living the lifestyle of it.

  337. Hallelujah. I want you to have it all that

  338. God originally had for you when He first made man in the 1st

  339. place. Let's make man in our image

  340. according to our likeness and let him have dominion or rule.

  341. He wants you to rule and reign again with him.

  342. He is the supreme ruler, but we get to rule with him.

  343. Hallelujah. So then he goes on and says this

  344. go there for all authorities been given to me in heaven and

  345. and and on earth. So where does he have authority?

  346. Where does he not have it right? He has authority.

  347. Now, having authority doesn't mean he makes you submit your

  348. will to his will. You have to do that.

  349. But he has the authority to assign your will to the place

  350. you wanted. And whether that's with him or

  351. whether that's the lake of fire, which is a second to death, is

  352. up to you because he has all authority.

  353. He is the judge of the living and the dead.

  354. OK, go there for and make not proselytes.

  355. So let me say this, God never said go win the lost.

  356. The role of the church is not to win lost people.

  357. The role of the church is to disciple people.

  358. And in order for people to be discipled, the lost must be

  359. saved to start the process of discipleship.

  360. We are not here just to win lost people because we act like the

  361. minute we bring them over the finish line, what the finish

  362. line is, the cross, we get them to accept Jesus as we did it.

  363. You won, we're done next person and there are so many set up

  364. this way to where they're like, you need to change your your

  365. life's not right, You're right as she's in your heart, you

  366. getting OK, good. You know where you're going to

  367. go and he's died now I'm going to go on to the next.

  368. So that's what we're doing. We're just trying to win the

  369. lost, win the lost, win the lost, get people converted, get

  370. people to ask Jesus into their heart.

  371. Just get people to ask she's in their heart.

  372. All that matters is that people ask Jesus into their heart.

  373. That's not all that matters. And Jesus never said just do

  374. that. Now some people would argue, but

  375. if you've done that, then you'll follow him.

  376. That's not so when the Scripture bears that out, that being

  377. converted alone does not guarantee you'll walk it out.

  378. It requires discipleship. And again, don't take my word

  379. for it. I'm going to take you to

  380. Scripture. So he says, go therefore and

  381. make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of

  382. the Father, Son, the Holy Spirit.

  383. Now again, if we just stop there, discipleship looks like

  384. conversion and water baptism. Ask him into your heart, baptize

  385. him in water in the name of the Father, Son, the Holy Ghost,

  386. we're done. But what's the next verse say?

  387. Teaching them to, to, to all? Whoo Hallelujah.

  388. So again, it's not about you asking Jesus into your heart

  389. alone, it's about because you're asking Jesus to save you.

  390. This is the cost cause Jesus to build his church and not

  391. building a church off of converts.

  392. He builds his church off disciples, and disciples are

  393. born again, baptized in water filled with the Holy Ghost.

  394. Hallelujah. And they are taught to observe

  395. all that I commanded you not only observe that I died on the

  396. cross and rose from the grave. That's all that matters.

  397. And you know what? Ministries all over the place.

  398. Well, it's semantics, you know, 'cause what you believe and what

  399. we believe. And you know, why are we, why is

  400. that an acceptable norm? Where is hunger and thirst for

  401. the truth of God's word and wanting to seek him and know him

  402. and know his ways and understand him and grow in the word and

  403. change our thinking. In fact, Jesus when he starts

  404. his ministry doesn't say be converted.

  405. He says repent, change your thinking, for the Kingdom of

  406. heaven is at hand. And you know as well as I do,

  407. there's a whole lot of change in a thinking that takes place

  408. after conversion after conversion.

  409. Now, I'm not going to ask you to raise your hands, but you can

  410. raise them on the inside. You were born again.

  411. But you you could say I know specific sins I have committed

  412. after being born of God. I'm not asking you to divulge

  413. yourself, I'm just saying. So you being born of God did not

  414. stop you from still living like a son of hell.

  415. But many of you now I ask you to raise your hand, can say when I

  416. started to become a disciple and renew my mind and change my

  417. thinking as a believer, I quit doing things that I used to do.

  418. Right now that's a whole nother ball game.

  419. And that came because now the Holy Spirit came to live on the

  420. inside of you. And what's he doing?

  421. He's here to teach you all things to observe and do

  422. Hallelujah. So here's the question.

  423. All right, let me define this word disciple here in this

  424. passage of Scripture, because he said go and make disciples.

  425. Disciple means this. It means to follow his precepts

  426. and instructions. Enroll as a scholar.

  427. You know, we say enroll as a scholar, right?

  428. But you know, people can enroll in school and never study.

  429. That's not what's being implied here.

  430. He is saying you enroll as a scholar, meaning you have come

  431. to learn and so and you're learning is to follow his

  432. precepts and instructions, not to know them, to follow them,

  433. not to know them, to follow them.

  434. That means you practice them, you're a doer of them.

  435. He says go make disciples, go make people teach them to

  436. follow, to do my precepts, my instructions.

  437. In fact, their lifestyle will bear out.

  438. They are like me because that means they're my disciple.

  439. Now this comes from another Greek word that means a learner,

  440. A pupil. I mean, again, what does this

  441. look like? This is not someone who's

  442. casually OK, I'm going to meddle a little bit this morning.

  443. There's no way you can understand everything being

  444. taught from the platform without taking some notes somewhere.

  445. I would love to believe that you all have photographic memories,

  446. but we know that's not true and so you have to see yourself

  447. here. Not as a spectator, not as check

  448. in a box, but as I've come to learn.

  449. And so maybe you're not a great note taker here and you're like,

  450. I just love it when you release it because I play it over and

  451. over. And if you are a audible learner

  452. and you're actually doing that as some people I know in this

  453. congregation does that they record it.

  454. In fact, I have one that kind of records kind of rogue on me.

  455. They, you know, put their phone out and it's recording now

  456. because they're not waiting for that thing to drop at all

  457. because they're going to listen to it again today.

  458. When I say rogue, I mean that in the nicest way because they're

  459. not being rebellious. They're that hungry.

  460. Like, I'm not waiting for this thing to drop.

  461. I'm getting mine now. Are you hearing me?

  462. Because I've got to hear it again and I need to hear it

  463. again and I need to hear it again and I need to hear it

  464. again. So with a wash, why I need that

  465. water to flow. I need that thing.

  466. Because again, if all you do is hear this one time with me today

  467. and it doesn't come back and flow through you.

  468. I mean honestly our vision partnership is larger than the

  469. views that we have accounted for on YouTube, which tells me the

  470. majority of you are not going back and watching same in

  471. anyway. Because a disciple is one who is

  472. a constant learner. It also comes from another Greek

  473. word that means this to learn by practice or experience, acquire

  474. a custom or habit. Now this is beyond conversion

  475. and this is the Greek word. So when Jesus said go make

  476. disciples, they understood what he was saying.

  477. Oh, you want us to enroll them? So your church is like a

  478. Education Center. But really we know it's more

  479. than education. It's an equipping center because

  480. it's here to equip you. And part of equipping is to

  481. educate you. But education alone doesn't do

  482. you any good because that'll just make you a Pharisee.

  483. So you got to be an equipped person that actually is a doer

  484. of the Word, right? And yet many places are

  485. satisfied with padding numbers of conversion but not giving

  486. them training to overcome in life.

  487. And for those that are diligently wanting to equip,

  488. there is much pushback because an equiper will make a demand on

  489. the hearer that you can't live God the way you want to.

  490. In fact, in our nation, the equiper will say you have too

  491. much American in your Bible reading.

  492. You think you can go and read it and think you can remain

  493. independent. You think freedom of speech is

  494. say what you want to say. But that doesn't happen in the

  495. Kingdom. In the Kingdom, there's a

  496. constraint of your tongue. You don't get to just blast and

  497. say what you want to. You don't get to give a piece of

  498. your mind. Now you can, but that's not from

  499. the Kingdom. Hallelujah.

  500. I need somebody to smile a little bigger.

  501. So the reality is only Jesus, through his word can define what

  502. a disciple looks like. And the question is, does Jesus

  503. do that? Because here's the thing.

  504. How can Jesus say to his disciples upon his departure

  505. from planet earth go and make disciples if they have no idea

  506. what it is? How can you make something you

  507. don't know how you've not been given a plan, a model, something

  508. that describes to you what it is so that you know, once they're

  509. made, what they look like. So it's obvious that Jesus had

  510. to have instructed them somewhere in Scripture what the

  511. disciple looked like. Are you ready to hear?

  512. Do you have ears to hear? Are you sure?

  513. Turn over to Luke chapter 14. Luke chapter 14.

Luke 14 chapter mention Luke 14 chapter mention

  514. We'll start in verse 25. Now again, I'm not saying this.

  515. This is not a pastor Earl, apostle Earl position.

  516. This is not me making it up. This is not me making a demand

  517. on you. I have no demands on you.

  518. I'm just telling you what the king says because the king is

  519. talking right now in Luke chapter 14, the King's talking,

    Luke 14 chapter mention

  520. The king, it says there's now large crowds were going along

  521. with him and he turned and said to them, now who turned and said

  522. to them, what's his name? Come on, what's his name?

  523. What's his name? What's his name?

  524. So notice large crowds, How many crowds?

  525. How big are the crowds? They're large are going along

  526. with him. He turns and says to them, So

  527. large crowds following him does not mean they are disciples.

  528. He's going to let them know whether or not they qualify.

  529. Verse 26 if anyone comes to me, if conditional statement, which

  530. means he doesn't control that, you control that, He doesn't

  531. control that, you control that, but he has established the

  532. condition. He's saying this is it, if

  533. anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother

  534. and wife and children and brothers and sisters and yes,

  535. even his own life. He, he, he be my.

  536. I did not say this. You know that that anchor Faith

  537. Church. They just demand too much, you

  538. know. What about our families?

  539. What about your families? What about them?

  540. Do you want to raise your family as a disciple, or do you want to

  541. raise them as a proselyte? How do you want to raise them?

  542. Because proselytes. They're converted, but they live

  543. God on their terms. A disciple.

  544. Jesus says if you love anything more than me.

  545. So I don't understand how a disciple can say God understands

  546. I need family time. Well, there's 168 hours in a

  547. week. Let's just break it down real

  548. quick. Do some math since you're

  549. thinking because I am here to create critical thinkers.

  550. Quit drinking the Kool-aid that they act like I'm serving.

  551. OK, because you're not obligated to believe anything I say.

  552. Anyone can walk out at any time and you came in on your own

  553. accord anyway. But there's 168 hours, of which

  554. the majority of parents work at least 40 hours a week, maybe

  555. more, that they willfully have no problem being separated from

  556. their children. Then they will participate in a

  557. lot of sports activities most of the time or extracurricular with

  558. their children. Work your hours, which means now

  559. Monday through Saturday, there's a lot of time away from home,

  560. whether through work or doing something, some extracurricular

  561. activity with your children. Then you got to help do the

  562. house. So again, when you come back to

  563. the church and say, well, you understand, we've been so busy.

  564. Well, were you not spending time with your children when they

  565. were doing sports or were they playing sports and you were on

  566. your phone? I mean, why is it all of a

  567. sudden Sunday is the only time of the two hours you're here?

  568. That's too much of A demand. But yet I don't make the demand.

  569. We just do things in the ministry based upon the

  570. scripture that says is he first and if he's 1st and the children

  571. know he's first, the children love him first.

  572. The children are trained and taught that he's 1st and that

  573. everything else is secondary. In fact, all relationships

  574. should seem like hatred when compared to Jesus.

  575. And the minute you ask me to choose a relationship over the

  576. church and Jesus, who happens to be the head of the church, then

  577. basically you're telling me to hate Jesus.

  578. Now it sounds hard, but it's OK because let's look at that

  579. scripture again and no one's here to can.

  580. These are not condemning things. These are just is he first cuz

  581. to a person at first, there's no big deal.

  582. We come, we love it, we love everything about it.

  583. We love the Lord. Our kids love the Lord.

  584. We're not burned out because we're always having a fresh flow

  585. of the anointing and the words of life flowing through our

  586. lives And we're we're giving out and we're touching people's

  587. lives. We're giving out so much in our

  588. everyday lives. We're like, we've got to get

  589. back in the symbol cuz I need to get filled back up.

  590. I need to get back in the assembly.

  591. I need to hear from the voice of Lord.

  592. I'm a disciple, I need to learn, I need to grow.

  593. I'm a pupil. In fact, I wish I could be in

  594. church all the time. I mean, it's going to be tough

  595. when you go to heaven. Are we worshipping him again?

  596. I mean, because how long, how many times you going to be at

  597. the church? Well, as often as the Lord

  598. requires, it wants, it asks of me to do it because I'm his

  599. disciple. I follow him if anyone comes

  600. after me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife

  601. and children. Now again, this doesn't mean

  602. that we're at odds with them. This doesn't mean we're mean to

  603. them. This just means in comparison to

  604. relationships we establish in our home and in all of our

  605. relationships with our extended family and just even in work, we

  606. say, listen, the First things first.

  607. It's my Lord Jesus and I'm not letting anything come before it,

  608. period. Because if you will let

  609. something come before it, then he says you cannot be my

  610. disciple. I didn't say that He did.

  611. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot.

  612. Now you understand cross carrying is a big deal because

  613. again, all of us are thankful Jesus carried his cross and his

  614. cross was our punishment. His cross was my sin.

  615. His cross was my transgression. His cross was my disobedience

  616. and yours and everyone else that ever was born on the planet.

  617. And then my Lord says, now you have a cross to carry, you have

  618. a purpose. There's something you're going

  619. to have to sacrifice, there's something sacrificial about your

  620. life in order for you to be a disciple.

  621. Because if you don't have that, then you're not my disciple.

  622. So you understand there's no such thing in the Bible of a

  623. casual Christian. That's a new thing that's

  624. manifested in the Western church.

  625. Again, we can fellowship and sing and worship God on our own

  626. terms. This is not the disciple of the

  627. Bible. It's not the disciple that Jesus

  628. is talking about. And you understand Jesus is

  629. life. You can't be with Him and Him

  630. not infuse you with life. He will never make such a demand

  631. on you. The only reason why you would

  632. ever get strained burden and beat down is called number one.

  633. You do not bear well under the trial that comes with a

  634. disciple. We'll talk about that one later.

  635. Secondly, it's because when you come, you're not actually

  636. operating as a disciple, you're actually operating as a convert.

  637. And that you are doing it on your terms, called the proselyte

  638. that the Pharisees made, did religious traditions, but it was

  639. their own effort on their own terms.

  640. And that's where burnout comes. But grace will not How could you

  641. ever be burned out under grace? How can this happen?

  642. So the minute people say, well, I'm burned out, you left grace

  643. or you didn't activate grace by faith.

  644. Thank you Jesus, we're making disciples here.

  645. So he goes on in verse 28 for which one of you when he wants

  646. to build a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost

  647. to see if he has enough to complete it.

  648. Now these listen, these are in chapters in verse for us, but

  649. you know, this is just something Jesus pinned and it all runs

  650. together. He is talking about discipleship

  651. and how what he considers a disciple of his.

  652. So he this is not a different chain of thought.

  653. This is not a financial, this is not a he doesn't stop saying let

  654. me talk to you about finance. He's not talking about finance.

  655. He's talking about discipleship. He is describing what a disciple

  656. that he would call his does. So he's saying now listen, if

  657. you are my disciple, Ma, I'm first now, how do I know?

  658. How do you know how to did you know?

  659. How do you know that I'm first in your life?

  660. Because you should have counted a cost for which of one of you?

  661. And again, this doesn't make sense if all we're doing is

  662. giving a message of conversion. This is not a required thought

  663. process. But if we're giving alter calls

  664. with this in mind, they're going to sound a little different.

  665. For which one of you, when he builds, wants to build a tower,

  666. does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he

  667. has enough to complete it. Otherwise, when he has laid a

  668. foundation and is not able to finish it all, who observe it

  669. begin to what? Ridicule him saying this man

  670. began to build and was not able to finish?

  671. Let's go on verse 31. Or what king, when he sets out

  672. to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and

  673. consider whether he is strong enough with 10,000 men to

  674. encounter the one coming against him with 20,000, or else while

  675. the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for

  676. terms of peace. Verse 33.

  677. So now this is in between two statements of disciples.

  678. So this is not a different thought.

  679. This is not a financial seminar in the middle of discipleship.

  680. This is not Pastor. Did you count the call?

  681. So whether we were going to be able to finish JC Penney when we

  682. build that out, I counted the call before I even said anything

  683. because it's not a numbers game. It's a faith game.

  684. It's not even a numbers game. It's a faith game.

  685. What did the king say? OK, so then none of you who's

  686. talking and it's quiet in this. Don't, don't make me go to coach

  687. mode, please. Come on, respond for me, right?

  688. Respond to the king. So then none of you can be my

  689. disciples. Come on.

  690. Who does not give up all his own possessions?

  691. Wow. Now I am not picking up an

  692. offering right now. That's not what this verse is.

  693. This verse is not an offerings verse.

  694. This is not you actually going and liquidating everything you

  695. own. That's not what he's saying.

  696. Everything that is in your possession, you should consider

  697. it mine. Mine alone.

  698. Nothing owns you. Only I own you.

  699. And don't you let a job, a house, a car, a boat, a

  700. vacation, a retirement dictate how you gonna live.

  701. Verse 34, didn't we say we? I didn't say we're going to go

  702. to verse 35. Verse 34 says, therefore, let me

  703. hold off on that and I'll come back to that thought.

  704. So Jesus is defining discipleship.

  705. In essence, it's everything. Here's the thing, He His altar

  706. call would sound like this. Do you want to have life and

  707. life more abundantly? Do you want your life to be

  708. forgiven of all your sins? Do you want to have the power

  709. and purpose of God to resonate within you?

  710. Then understand this. I will freely forgive you of

  711. everything you've done wrong. But know this, to come and

  712. accept that it's going to cost you everything.

  713. It's not for you to come and to receive and go back and live the

  714. way you've been living. So if you're not ready to quit

  715. everything that you're doing, don't come because I'm not here

  716. to convert you. I want a disciple.

  717. It'd be better for you to stay in your seat than it would be

  718. for you to come down. Because you, you got to admit,

  719. many of us are disheartened when someone gets born again in the

  720. next Sunday. We don't see them.

  721. I mean, I thought you were born again.

  722. I thought you asked Jesus to be Lord of your life.

  723. I thought that you wanted God's forgiveness and his life.

  724. Yet where are you? But again, the converted message

  725. is just as Jesus into your heart, you know, save you and

  726. that's all that matters. And then they can walk back into

  727. the same lifestyle because again, many of them won't even

  728. do it initially. If they're really asked Jesus,

  729. they're going to be a little different.

  730. But the Bible is very clear that when the seed gets in you and

  731. you start to grow, the attacks are going to come to a disciple.

  732. And it's used remaining and counting that cost that I will

  733. not let anything tear me away because God will not leave me or

  734. forsake me. So I am going to be like Him,

  735. not leave or forsake Him. And if you don't have that kind

  736. of tenacity, but how can a person say they're truly saved

  737. and then never darken the door of a church again, not have some

  738. fruit in keeping with repentance.

  739. Now let's go to verse 34. Same context.

  740. It hasn't changed themes. Therefore, salt is good.

  741. But if even salt becomes tasteless, with what will it be

  742. seasoned? That's interesting.

  743. What's salt have to do with discipleship?

  744. Because again, chapters and verses we all.

  745. This is verse 34 and 35. Totally new subject here.

  746. No, no, no it's not. He just made a whole statement.

  747. This is what a disciple looks like.

  748. If you're mine, this is what I expect.

  749. And listen, you better count the cost before you come because it

  750. cost you everything. And I'm not asking you to do

  751. anything I haven't done. You didn't have to die for the

  752. world, I did that. But you do have to lay down your

  753. life like I did and follow me. I am Lord.

  754. And this is what? There's no relationship higher

  755. than me. No excuses.

  756. Count the cost. Because if you start this

  757. process and don't finish it, people going to mock you, laugh

  758. at you. How many times have you heard it

  759. at your place of business? Oh, well, you're on fire.

  760. Yeah, but that, that, that'll wane.

  761. They're just waiting for you to wane, waiting for you to get

  762. tired again, waiting for you to act like them again.

  763. That way when your presence shows up, they don't feel the

  764. conviction of God anymore, right?

  765. That's why they work even harder to get you back in sin.

  766. But he goes on and says if salt is good, but if even salt has

  767. become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned?

  768. Verse 35, it is useless for the soil or for the manure pile.

  769. It is thrown out. Then he says, he who has ears to

  770. hear, let him hear. What's he saying?

  771. He's saying don't come and say you're my disciple.

  772. Start this deal and then lose your zeal.

  773. Because if you start living like a proselyte, what use do I have

  774. with you? Well, this will go in line of

  775. things like this. Lord.

  776. Lord, didn't we depart from me? I was never personally

  777. acquainted with you. So we see that the scripture

  778. itself doesn't support a once saved, always saved mentality,

  779. but it does for those who count the cost and say he's mine and

  780. I'm his and there's nothing that will get in the way of that.

  781. And that's clearly stated out. So we can clearly see that Jesus

  782. our Lord never intended that a person would just confess with

  783. her mouth once without developing the lifestyle from

  784. that confession. The Bible is not converting us

  785. to Christianity. The Bible is a training tool for

  786. disciples for those that want to study and know the Lord.

  787. Let's close with this scripture here.

  788. Matthew 1624 to 25. Hallelujah.

  789. Then Jesus said to his disciples, if anyone wishes to

  790. come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and

  791. follow me. For whoever wishes to save his

  792. life will, But whoever loses his life for my sake, we'll find.

  793. Jesus lets us know that the disciple doesn't call the shots.

  794. The disciple follows what's being spoken by the King, and

  795. the King only speaks from the heart of his Father.

  796. And the Father loves you and is giving you words of life, and

  797. he's asking you to do things at times that in your flesh, you're

  798. not going to undo it. I do not come to service on

  799. Sunday because I oversee this vision.

  800. That's not why I come. Because there are plenty who can

  801. fill this pulpit. And Pastor Mike, he had a

  802. powerful word last Sunday, powerful word about wandering.

  803. In fact, there's something he said prophetic concerning anger,

  804. faith church. And I took that little section

  805. out and I've put it over in a note and I'm meditating on that.

  806. I'm like, and I just, it seems like that is a prophetic word

  807. for us. You're so well equipped and I

  808. could easily call and say, hey, I'm not coming in this morning.

  809. You take it and they can take it.

  810. I mean, I have at least 100 people right now that could get

  811. up in this platform and minister a word easy, no problem.

  812. So for 100 days I could call out because I'm not feeling it and

  813. say, but I love the Lord. I asked him into my heart, you

  814. know, I made sure it was covered.

  815. We'll give them an opportunity, but God knows in my heart, I

  816. just don't feel like coming today.

  817. Am I not feeling or when I used to work secularly, especially

  818. third shift, there were times I was going to leave and my wife

  819. did not want me to go to work. Whoo, those were tough nights,

  820. tough nights, tough nights. And there were some nights I

  821. called in sick, not because I was physically sick, but I was

  822. sick of not being with my wife and she wanted me to be there.

  823. And so I made a phone call. True, but there are many nights

  824. because they didn't have that much leave then I'm like, I have

  825. to go. I don't want to, but I have to,

  826. right? And my relationship with my king

  827. is a want and a have to and have to is not a negative.

  828. We've become so religiously brainwashed by Pharisees and

  829. hypocrites that when we act like, oh, you have to, you have

  830. to accept Jesus as your Lord and savior to be born again.

  831. Nobody has a problem with that command.

  832. Well, you know, I don't want to be told what to give Jesus to

  833. tell you what to give. Well, if he tells me, then I

  834. it's not in my heart. Well, was it not in your heart

  835. to get born again because he told you how to be saved?

  836. He didn't say, well, you figure it out because I want your heart

  837. in it. No, he said, this is the only

  838. way. It's a command.

  839. You have to do it that way. And we were like, I want to

  840. because you've told me how I have to.

  841. And thank you for telling me because I'd hate to have to

  842. figure it out on my own because I've tried that and it didn't

  843. work. And so in this last scripture we

  844. just read, this is Jesus is saying you want to be my

  845. disciple. You got to lose your life.

  846. The first question I'm going to ask is to the believer, the

  847. convert, because I know there's converts in this room.

  848. I know there's converts, but God wants you to be a disciple.

  849. God wants you to decide. Today I'm no longer living a

  850. converted life. I'm giving.

  851. I'm losing my life today once and for all.

  852. It's no longer acceptable for me to live God, this life that God

  853. gave me on my own terms from here out, I lose it.

  854. I lose my life.
