So we continue our study book of Galatians coming to chapter 5

and verses 16 to 26. Has anybody read this passage?

One hands going up to three. Are there 3 chocolates?

Yeah. Last three to go.

No problem. That is good, very good.

Before I go into the sermon, I want to give you a story.

If you understand the story, you understand the Bible passage.

Sometimes, you know, we can talk a lot, but it's difficult to

retain what we hear in a message.

If it is a story, you will not forget it.

So there is a man, let's say his name is Dan, Daniel.

Dan has been a very good manager in the sense at the work he was

very, very accurate in his details and efficient.

But also he was having bursts of anger.

He would burst out and hurt people who are under him and

because of that it was becoming difficult.

Basically, you know, for all the people are walking on egg shells

because we don't know when he is going to lose it and he is

thinking that he is a some people think he is a

perfectionist. Therefore he loses it.

And he himself thinks because he is, he wants everything done

accurately, perfectly and people are not doing it.

That's why he is trying to enforce it as a manager by

showing anger. So one day one lady who was

working under him, let's call her name Jane or some kind of a

name, and she has deleted one whole weeks of his hard work.

All the data she deleted by accident.

So she got this Daniel called her and fired her before the

whole team humiliated her and she was into tears and good for

nothing. Kind of a feeling she he made

her feel. And so far that's all OK.

And then he goes home in the evening and is standing is

parked the car on the driveway. It doesn't feel like going into

the house. Why?

Because of his temper, everything has been disturbed in

his life, relationships, children don't sit with him in

the dining hall or on the couch or for conversation anymore.

Wife is very unhappy with him at work.

People are unhappy with him. And having put down this Lady

Jane, he was feeling overwhelmingly, overwhelmingly

guilty for what he has done. So he sat there in the car and

he said, God, I have come to the end of my life, can you please

help me? And he opens the Bible and he

reads that verse, those who belong to Jesus.

Sorry, verse 16. So I say live by the Spirit and

you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

When he read it and cried out to God, the Holy Spirit ministered

to him. And then after some time, he

went back to, I mean, he when he goes to the office next day, he

called her, apologized to her. She was shocked beyond belief.

This man, how can he apologize? And he apologized.

And then after some time, the people are able, the in the

family, they were saying, hey, something is different about

that. And children were sitting with

him, having a chat with him and wife was connecting with him.

Well, and the employees and this whole, the same Lady Jane came

up to him one day and said, I want to tell you something is

different about you in a good way.

So it all began with realizing that he has anger issues and he

has to crucify this old nature and be ministered by the Holy

Spirit. And this transformation brought

everything into his life. If you like the story, shout

Hallelujah because we all need that kind of a transformation at

some point or the other. So in verse 16 you see here, so

I say live by the Spirit. Actually in some transit says

walk by the spirit. So what is walk?

You will see this word walk probably used 50 times in the

New Testament, 49 times. I am rounding it up 50 times.

So walk stands for your lifestyle.

Say walk stands for your lifestyle.

So your lifestyle should be characterized by what?

By the Spirit? Walk by the Spirit.

Now how often do you do it? Do it once in a week.

One day in the morning, God take over my life and forget about

it. Rest of the day.

It's not going to happen like that.

The best phrase I have come across in my life to explain

this phenomena is lifting your empty hands by faith and

depending on the Holy Spirit, movement by movement.

Everybody say movement by movement.

There is no other way. There is no other way, because

when we are born again, you have got before you are born again,

you have the old sinful nature, atomic nature that causes you to

think, act in ways that are contrary to God's will, contrary

to God's commandment, contrary to God's character, and that is

the sinful nature. There is an inclination within

every human heart to do wrong, not right.

So when you believe in Jesus, now you have this old nature and

a new nature is imparted to you. God's own life is imparted to

your spirit. So now how many natures?

You have two natures side by side, they are side by side in

you. But when you lift your hand and

say, Holy Spirit help me, Holy Spirit help me, Holy Spirit help

me, When you do that simple prayer, you say it 100 * 1000

times in a day, it doesn't matter.

He helps and the old nature will be down and the new nature will

be up. Does it make sense?

So walking by the Spirit is depending on the Holy Spirit and

drawing your power and the motivation and the sustenance,

sustenance, grace by lifting your empty hands.

Say empty hands. Why empty hands?

It is not by your effort. You are not going to say to

yourself 100 times in a day, I don't want to be angry.

I don't want to be angry. I don't want to be angry.

You are not going to do anything like that.

You are not going to achieve victory over anger by saying I

don't want to be angry. No, instead you lift your empty

hands and say, God, I cannot do it.

Holy Spirit, can you please do it?

Bang, you get the power. Does it make sense now?

So this whole thing, you know, I can be stuck on that one verse

and not finish the chapter, but I want to do let's see how much

we can cover today. But I just want to do it.

So I say live or walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify

the desires of the sinful nature.

Now gratify, say the word gratify.

What is gratify? It is to do it or satisfy.

Basically there is a word in Greek which which the word is

telisete. Telisete in Greek means gratify.

This is from the time of your imagination in your In your

imagination you decide to do something from the thought from

the time of your thought till its completion.

That word telesete covers it. Am I communicating?

Let's say last night I really was not hungry, but there were

muffins on that on the on the table.

So I said I will go help myself and eat a muffin.

So the thought came into my mind, I go there and I remove

that sheet of paper covering it. I said I don't need this and put

the car back. I walked away.

Let us say I ate the muffin. From the time I get thought till

the time you eat. That is telesated.

Am I communicating it? Yeah.

Now with God. Think about it.

When Christ shouted on the cross.

Telestai. I think it is the word.

Is this the same word? Greek word telestated.

Whatever is a Greek word, it is finished.

He shouted from the cross. It is finished when He said that

that is the plan from the ages before God created the whole

world. He is a lamb that is laid before

the foundation of the world, and that lamb entered the world and

he died upon the cross. And when he before he gave up

his spirit, he shouted, It is finished.

Felicity, that idea of God, salvation for humankind is

finished. And today when we were singing,

John said one word, His promises never fail.

We sang, He will not let me down.

I tell you that song is very powerful, very powerful.

When you sing that song again, when you go home and sing that

song, what is the promise that God had made to you?

What is the purpose of your existence?

God will not fail to do it. He has shouted from the cross it

is finished and it is finished for each one of us.

God's plan and purpose is finished and His purpose is

finished. For Omega.

It will be done. There is a season, there is a

place, there is a time when God says He is.

If he gives a promise, he is going to do it and he has said

to me, I am sending a tsunami and it will sweep through the

churches. A revival will come.

Is it going to come? You do not see it.

It will come and those who wait for it and depend on God will

partake in the revival. So only what we need to do is to

stand on it and say God, you have said it, you told Ramana

that you are going to send a tsunami, you are going to send a

revival. We stand up on it, we receive

it, we see it by faith and we receive it by faith.

Telisette is that intention of God has been communicated and it

will be done. Does it make sense?

This is how you live your own life.

What is it that God promised to you?

It is done. Say it is done.

Shout it out. So here you will not gratify the

desires of the sinful nature. So you think of the sinful

nature. The idea gets into your mind to

do commits in and. But when you walk in the Spirit,

you will not gratify. You will not make it true.

You will not end up doing the very thing that you don't want

to do. It will not happen in the Greek

language when you see it, the double negative there.

No, not you will not gratify, you will not satisfy the desires

of your flesh. No.

So does he mean that you will never sin?

What he means here is habitual sin.

You do today, you do tomorrow, you do next week and you do next

month. You do next year.

That is habitually you are doing sin.

If you are a believer, you will not do it.

We have to put a stop. We can do something for 10

years. 20 years doesn't mean we have to keep doing it.

But I tell you, when we are born again, when you understand what

salvation is, there will be a deep crying out to the deep.

You will have a your spirit crying out to God.

Why do I fail you? Why do I sin against you?

Is there no victory for me? And when you are crying out in

your heart, the Holy Spirit says, no, no, that's not your

end. I will give you victory, but

sometimes we don't get victory until we say I have come to the

end of my rope. Will you please help me, Holy

Spirit? So Paul is writing to Galatians

who have been baptized by the Holy Spirit.

They were speaking in tongues, but can people who speak in

tongues commit sin? Can they get angry?

They can. What I am trying to say here is

that you are not exempt and holiness and sanctification are

not automatic. You just do not because you are

a believer. You will never get angry, you

will never do mistake, never, never tell a lie.

It does not happen, but you tell lie today, tomorrow day, after

every week, every month. I question whether you know God,

if you know that Jesus is your Saviour.

It cannot be a habitual 1 cannot be done all time.

So we have to come back to God and say, hey my Lord, please can

you give me victory over this and what happened to Daniel can

happen to us. You will be transformed and

become a source of comfort to people and blessing to many

people. Cool and verse 17.

There is a struggle between this old nature and the new nature.

Verse 17 says for the sinful nature desires what is contrary

to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful

nature. They are in conflict with each

other so that you do not do what you want.

That means there is a desire to do right, but we don't do right.

We are ending up doing wrong because there is a conflict

going on. Old nature and the new nature

but the way to overcoming nature is to let or count ourselves

dead with Christ crucified with Christ, which he talks about in

later verse. I think he talks about it in

verse 24. Those who belong to Christ Jesus

have crucified the sinful nature which is passions and desires.

It is not bland. Experience is passion and there

is desire which is strong to do wrong.

But we have crucified the passions and desires.

Basically, when Jesus died, he just did not die only as Jesus,

but he died as every man and woman.

He died in your place, my place. The death he died is vicarious

suffering. Vicarious suffering means he

suffer for you and me instead of we suffering on the cross.

He took the suffering. He died and when he died, I

died. When he died, you have died.

That is what it is. And Paul talks about it more,

more in depth. He talks about it in Romans

Romans 6 · chapter mention

chapter 6. When he was crucified, we are

crucified with him. When he was buried, we are

buried with him. When he was raised, we are

raised up with him. We are one with Christ.

And when you believe it with all your heart, that old nature

cannot have dominion over you anymore.

You will put it under your feet and stample it down and say end

of it. I am set free from it.

So when he is talking in verse 16, live by the Spirit and you

will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

He is giving an assurance that as long as you depend on Holy

Spirit, as long as you lift your empty hands, as long as you

depend on the Holy Spirit, you will have victory.

You will have victory, but there are times you are going to fail.

However, you are so focused on not committing a sin, suddenly

you find yourself. You slipped and you fell

already. Then we have 1 John chapter 2.

1 John 2 · chapter mention

If anybody sins, we have an advocate with the father.

You go to him and say, Lord, I'm sorry, I missed it.

Please forgive me. Wash me in your blood.

And he says, my son, my daughter takes you back and keep walking

with him again. Now, you know, as you age, some

things will not have the same kind of power they had when you

were in your 20s, when you were in teen, teen years.

Some things are very, very powerful emotions and the way

you get attracted to certain things, very powerful.

And it may not happen to me now in this age, but I have grown,

gone through that kind of a stage where I would fall every

day and cry out to God. Why?

Why? I don't want to do it, but why

do I do it? That's what Paul is saying here,

because this tension is in the in the old nature.

The new nature is there. You will not, you will do what

you do not want to do. But when you reckon yourself

dead with crash, when you reckon yourself crucified with Christ,

that old nature is crucified already, is being made

inoperative, is being made effective, less of, no effect at

all, and it's been nullified, it's been cancelled.

And you need to count upon it. And every time you feel that

push, that kind of a pull, that kind of attraction, you say to

yourself, you Ramana, you have died.

How come you live for it again? And you?

Overcome because you depend on the Holy Spirit to give you

victory. OK, so we talked about the

conflict and verse 18 again, he affirms if you are led by the

Spirit, you are not under the law.

That means what? It doesn't mean you will break

the law. It means you fulfill the law.

How do you fulfill the law? You must be led by the Holy

Spirit. We are led by the Holy Spirit.

You will fulfill the law. So now in order to illustrate

what Paul is trying to communicate, the old nature, the

new nature, He talks about the acts of the sinful nature are

obvious. That means what they.

There are some since we commit in private, nobody is watching

you do it in your own room or. Use your physical body or your

phone or whatever it is you are engaged with.

We commit some private sins, but every private sin will

ultimately come into the public at some point or the other.

You cannot hide sin. We cannot hide our sin.

It will come out. It spill out into the public.

You do something, you say something and people know that.

Oh, he has a problem, she has a problem.

It will come out, It will come out.

So he gives you a list of things, the acts of the sinful

nature obvious. So he gives you sexual

immorality, impurity, and debauchery.

All three he gives are connected with sex.

It is all kinds. I will give you a brief

explanation of it. To the yeah.

The Greek word used here is porneia, from which you get the

word pornography. Porn is the Greek word porneia

that encompasses all forms of illicit sexual activity,

including adultery, fornication, and homosexuality.

Everything is included there. Every deviation is included

there. All those 3 words and

particularly the one word porneia includes all and then

impurity refers to moral uncleanness in thought, word and

deed. It begins in the thought and

then sometimes you speak and then you do.

All is coming is included in the word impurity and the lastly the

sensuality. Sensuality is debauchery or

asal. Gaya in Greek denotes a lack of

self restraint, often manifesting in excessive

indulgence in sensual pleasures. That can be too much of

drinking, too much of sex, too much of everything.

That is excessive indulgence. And that is what the third word,

sensuality, all talks about. It implies A shamelessness and a

disregard for decency. You, I mean, a person will stop

thinking about is it right or wrong, can I do in public or

not? They just do not forget about

all decency and they are drunk and they can strip themselves in

public because they have lost their sense of decency.

And the next ones is you got idolatry and sorcery, verse 20,

idolatry and witchcraft. And these two, they are false

religion based on false religion.

When you bow down to an idol, you are actually bowing down to

what is not God. So idolatry is worshipping what

is not God. And secondly, sorcery or

witchcraft is dealing with the demonic, the accord and all

these things happen because we do not have a right relationship

with God. We don't know the right God S

you end up doing the wrong thing.

Sometimes people are longing for authentication.

They are longing for self authentication.

That's the word psyche in psychology.

Use the word self authentication.

You want to feel that you are living out your life.

So what do you do? Do the wrong thing to feel that

you are existing, you have a right, you are sovereign over

the decisions you make and then you want to show that

sovereignty by doing the wrong thing and mess up ones life.

So that is the thing about about it.

And then this leads to a list of other things that he is talking

about. Enmity, jealousy, fits of anger,

rivalries, divisions, envy, all these things connected with

relationships. Every relationship, family,

spouse, children, employees, Co workers, community, everything

is upset there. So.

Enmity, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, all these things.

They breakdown relationships and ultimately talks about

drunkenness, orgies and similar things.

This is is talking about self indulgence.

It is. Completely.

You are drowning in satisfying your desires 100% You live for

yourself 100% or more 200% and that is leading to drunkenness

and orgies. In the Roman world it was very

common for people to drink evening, Daytime, the soldiers

and all, you know, they are busy doing their job, but evening is

the time to relax. They drunk, they get drunk, and

once they get drunk, they also go to places where there is

something like a dancing, strip, dancing.

And you know, people go there and indulge in things and they

lose a sense of decency and they them just strip because they are

drunk. So Paul is talking to his

generation and I tell you it is no more different today.

Today the society is no more different, it just talks to the

present time. So how do you know these are the

acts of the flesh or the acts of the sinful nature?

Can you hide any of it? Can you hide your envy?

Can you hide your pride? Can you hide any of those

things? Jealousy, fits of rage, it all

comes out. You cannot hide it.

You cannot be jealous about somebody and keep it private to

yourself. It will come out in the words

you speak, the deeds you do. It comes out and nothing can be

hidden there. Ambition, dissensions, factions,

You are creating division. You cannot divide silently.

It will spill out in the public. Cool.

Now this is acts of the sinful nature.

He uses the word plural acts is not act.

But when you want to talk about the fruit of the Holy Spirit

doesn't say fruits, he says fruit singular.

The word is. Singular one fruit, but its

manifestations are several. So it.

Manifests. How does it manifest?

The fruit of the Spirit is Lovejoy, peace, patience,

kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and

self-control. Against such, there is no law.

What is he trying to say when he says there is no law against

such things? It means you fulfill the law

100%. When you do these things, it is

like you are driving in a zone of 50 kilometer speed limit.

You are going at 50, you don't break the law.

If you go at 20, you may break the law by stopping the traffic,

you may be pulled over by the cops.

Hey, why are you going too slow? But in the spiritual realm, in

the moral realm, there is no going slow.

This is only talking about more than 50.

You will be fined. Same way when you do the acts of

the sinful nature, we draw God's condemnation.

But if you are moving in love, which is the agape, Agape is the

highest form of love, which is unselfish, which is other

centered, helpful, loving, and that is agape.

You do not live for yourself, but to lift somebody else, and

that is agape. And when you have love, that

kind of a love, and then you have joy and peace, joy and

peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, they

all reflect the nature of God. The more you demonstrate these

qualities, you look more like Jesus Christ.

You can never demonstrate these qualities and be condemned by

the community. That guy horrible, he shows so

much of love and no one condemns you like that.

But any of the other things that you do, acts of the sinful

nature, you will be hated by people.

They will condemn you for that, but if for doing the good

things, no one condemns you and you are fulfilling the law, that

is what he means. So now we come to is the clock

or stop? Correct.

I am thinking I am having plenty of time still.

So now verse 24, Those who belong to crises have crucified

the sinful nature, which is passions and desires.

Since we. Live by the Spirit.

Let us keep in step with the Holy Spirit.

Now this is a very beautiful word, keeping in step with the

Holy Spirit. I am sure you all have watched

when soldiers walk in unison. You know they will.

The stride, you know the length of the step is the same.

One will not put the leg like this, another just puts like

this, it doesn't happen. It is the keep in step.

One puts step and another puts next second doesn't happen.

All put the step at the same time.

That is what is being being in harmony.

So when you are keeping in step with the Holy Spirit you will do

right. You have to know the frequency.

You know the beat goes on when the when the army is marching,

there's a beat dumb, dumb, dumb, and everybody follows it and

keeps in step with that beat. Same way you and I must be in

tune with that beat of the Holy Spirit and walk and keep in step

with him. And when you keep in step with

him, everything will go OK. Everything will go OK.

And because of that, there will be harmony IN the community.

Because you walk in step with the Holy Spirit, it brings

harmony IN the community. See what Paul writes in verse

25. Since we live by the Spirit, let

us keep in step with the Spirit. Verse 26.

Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each

other. If there is no conceit, there's

no pride because you're keeping in step with the Holy Spirit.

When there's no pride, there's no conceit.

There's no provoking and envying.

You don't provoke somebody with words or deeds.

Now we will be doing envying each other.

We don't envy somebody else and do things to hurt them.

We don't do it. So keeping in step with the Holy

Spirit is the antidote to living a useless life.

We are not good to anybody when we are in keeping with step with

the Holy Spirit. We are good for everybody.

You will be a blessing to everyone.

So this is very, very important. So now we have to sum up and see

some of the things. What did Jesus say we should

deal with? How do we deal with your own old

nature? In Luke 9/23 he said, then he

said to the mall, whoever wants to be my disciple must deny

themselves, take up their cross daily and follow me.

Luke 923 is very very powerful. So how do you understand denying

what is meant by denying yourself?

That is Jesus formula for living in holiness, in sanctification.

Deny yourself. What did Peter do when he was

following Jesus? When when Jesus was being tried

in Hearer's house, Oregon, in any other court or priest house,

One lady. One little.

Girl will see the servant girl and look at Peter.

I think you are with him. You are one of the disciples, he

said. No, no, no, I don't know him.

And afterward another lady looks at him.

I am sure you are one of his disciples, he said.

Lady, I do not know what you are talking about.

I do not know Him at all. I do not know Him at all.

I do not know him at all. That is He denied Jesus how many

times? Three times?

He denied. So what?

We have to do is. We have to deny ourselves.

We have to deny. Ourselves, our old nature, our

sinful nature, we have to deny it.

I am I have I have used. This example before many times I

suppose its I talk about Augustine, Saint Augustine he

had a living relationship. Much before the time this.

Is not a modern times problem much before I think it was 4th

century Augustine was, I mean a great St.

Later on he became a great St. and he wrote a City of God.

He wrote many other things and one of the books he wrote is

Augustine's Confessions, his own confessions.

There is a book, you read it, it will be very enlightening.

So he had a child through a lady.

He lived. With her had a child.

And then he moved city for some reason.

Then he became a Christian and then he was walking on the

street one day and this lady chanced to see him and she

started following him, saying Oh Augustine, oh Augustine, oh

Augustine, he can recognize the voice, but he will he will deny

it and say I got nothing to do with the lady because it is past

is no more present anymore. So he kept walking without

shopping. So she ran and came in front of

him, knelt down and said, Oh, Augustine, don't you recognize

me? So Augustine said.

That Augustine is dead. And he walked off.

Denying yourself is to be like Augustine, your own nature.

What can be most more appealing, more than your sinful fleshly

demands? But you deny it.

Say I don't know you. I am dead.

It was. History it is.

History. It is no more belonging to the

present time. I have died with Christ.

So you deny? That is what it is like.

When you deny yourself. You are rejecting self

sovereignty and submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

What is self sovereignty? I am thing of my own life, I

have a right to do what I like. Who are you to question me?

I will do whatever I like, the self sovereignty.

But when you deny yourself you say no.

I submit to the lordship of Jesus and you become a servant.

Are we together OK? Whoever denies me before.

Men will be denied before the angels of God.

He talks about it again in Luke 12, nine and Matthew 1033.

If you don't acknowledge me before people, I will not

acknowledge before my Father, before the angels of God South.

This is a very strong. Word, very strong word.

We have to live consciously depending on Christ, lifting our

empty hands in faith, asking for help with the Holy Spirit.

Lord, I need your help. I need your help to overcome my

sinful nature. I need your help to not to lose

myself anymore in the areas I have lost before.

I want to gain victory. And you lift your empty hands

and cry out to him, movement by movement.

And He will be. He is faithful and He will set

you free. He will make you walk in

freedom. Holy Spirit is God.

So many. Times we think less.

Of the Holy Spirit in our minds, consciously or unconsciously.

You think Holy Spirit is just like a bonus.

He's there. Don't take it for granted.

Don't take it for granted. Last last week one night I got

into the bed, 1:00 in the night I went into the bed and I said

God, you are holy, Father, God you are holy, Jesus you are

holy, Holy Spirit you are holy, you are equal and you are Co

eternal, coexistent, equality, be loud, worshiped, obeyed.

I was just thinking about how Holy Spirit is God and suddenly

I see three huge figures and I see a small fence and justice

next to the fence I see a big jet standing there.

I said this. Is amazing is.

Amazing say when you lift up the name of Jesus, when you connect

with the Holy Spirit, when you say you are God, what you are

saying is that I want you to take over my life and then He

will show you what He wants to show you about your future life.

We have. Reading the Bible, it's very

dull, boring experience. I had to read it.

I will go on Facebook for a while, you know, or do something

on YouTube. That's more appealing.

That's I. Would have if I if Paul is

writing today, he would put that there social media. 100% is one

of the. What do you call them?

Acts of the sinful nature. It comes there very much, but I

tell you. When you feed on.

This word, when you feel on the word and say, My Lord, this is

bread for me. This is my.

Bread I'm eating. It now it's like honey, I'm

going to enjoy it and then it releases life into you Bible.

Reading will not be boring. Anymore I just, you know.

That one word. Changed my whole week.

Gratify. Telicity means from the time of

thinking to its completion. That word describes it, and God

does everything in that way. Felicity, before the foundation

of the world, He has seen you. He has called forth that you may

believe in Jesus, that you may become like Jesus, that you may

walk in Him, that you may keep in step with the Holy Spirit,

that you will overcome the sinful nature, that you will

walk in holiness, and you will be like Jesus and impact your

community. Felicity, it is done already.

He has decreed it. Do you want?

To keep in step with. Him shall we go?

Ahead in prayer. Thank you, Lord.

Thank you Jesus. It is saying no to the sinful.

Nature and yes, to the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

It is not just one thing. All nine things we have to grow

into it. That is a test.

The test is are we growing in the fruit of the Holy Spirit?

If you are not growing in the fruit of the Holy Spirit, then

we are indulging in the sinful acts.

So. We have.
