  1. To the king of kings.

  2. Holy, you will always be.

  3. Holy, holy forever.

  4. You will always be.

  5. Holy, holy forever.

  6. Well, Father, I thank you again.

  7. And what a wonderful privilege it is to be able to come

  8. and sing of your holiness,

  9. and your sacrifice, and the grace,

  10. and your love, and your mercy.

  11. And Father, we come humbly before you today

  12. because we truly have nothing to give.

  13. Lord, any gift or thing that we can bring before you,

  14. or even ourselves, or it's just not a whole lot.

  15. Lord, we are sinful people.

  16. We've failed many times.

  17. But for some reason you call us to bring ourselves

  18. through your throne and to be living sacrifices.

  19. It's, Lord, the only thing we can bring this morning is our heart.

  20. Whatever condition it may be,

  21. no matter how cleansed or how wretched or dirty or stained,

  22. God is what you've called us to bring.

  23. And if we're not going to humble ourselves before you, Lord,

  24. we're not going to hear from you.

  25. We're not going to have the privilege of meeting with you.

  26. So, Father, I ask that you would,

  27. in the still, small whisper that so often you speak from,

  28. Lord, you would whisper to the depths of our hearts this morning.

  29. That you would reveal yourself to us in a powerful and amazing way.

  30. And, Lord, you would push us through that threshold

  31. just over that edge to be willing to come

  32. and to humble ourselves at the foot of your throne.

  33. And I pray that we would worship you and surrender to you

  34. and adore you and submit ourselves to you in every way that you deserve.

  35. Father, we pray for the long family this morning.

  36. We pray for all of our other shut-ins,

  37. all of our people who can't be here due to other sicknesses.

  38. And, Lord, you know that there's just so many people

  39. dealing with so many issues this morning.

  40. We lift them up to you.

  41. But, God, we know that your Holy Spirit can be with them right now

  42. just as you're with us.

  43. And that's what we humbly ask for.

  44. Father, speak powerfully into our hearts in these moments.

  45. And I pray that we would receive you well.

  46. That we would receive truth.

  47. And, Lord, we would be willing to change and do whatever we need to do

  48. so that we can live according to that truth and service to you.

  49. Father, we love you.

  50. We thank you, and we ask all this in Jesus' precious and holy name.

  51. And all God's people said,

  52. Amen. You may be seated this morning.

  53. I have a couple of messages that I was asked to deliver.

  54. Some will share those with you really quick.

  55. First of all, Ms. Juana Reynolds just wanted to tell everyone

  56. how much she loves and misses you all,

  57. how much she appreciates your church.

  58. And so we just thank her for that this morning.

  59. We love her. We miss her.

  60. And if you don't know, Ms. Juana, you should go visit her sometime.

  61. She's 98, and she's really not able to get out as much anymore as she used to.

  62. But she is a wonderful, wonderful lady.

  63. Also, Pastor Long's wife passed away Friday evening.

  64. She has been battling for quite some time now,

  65. and so it's been a pretty long hard road for them.

  66. But Pastor Hall did want me, or Pastor Long,

  67. did want me to communicate with you how much he has appreciated

  68. the cards, the letters, the food, the gift cards.

  69. Anything that you've done, he wanted to say thank you.

  70. It's been a crazy few weeks.

  71. He has not written down everything that everybody's done,

  72. and so he doesn't remember.

  73. And he just wanted to say, like, he has not forgotten what has been done.

  74. He just has forgotten who has done it, and he wanted to say thank you.

  75. So thank you guys for loving on him.

  76. Remember that when you lose a loved one,

  77. a lot of times the hardest days are after the funeral.

  78. They're going this afternoon to make final arrangements.

  79. Those arrangements will be on Edgar's Funeral Home website in Chesney.

  80. So if you would like to attend or support them in some way,

  81. those arrangements will be on Edgar's Funeral Home website.

  82. It should be this afternoon or maybe tomorrow sometime.

  83. So whenever last week, we're talking about unity.

  84. And as we discussed this one last time,

  85. it is of the utmost importance that we are on guard as a church

  86. to make sure that we are guarding the unity that Christ gives us,

  87. because here's the truth.

  88. We can't conjure up unity ourselves.

  89. I mean, you kind of realize this even from a very small perspective.

  90. I mean, if you talk about a marriage, you know that unity is important.

  91. And even in the context of marriage, there's not always unity in a marriage.

  92. Like it can get hard sometimes.

  93. And even if you as an individual are very much like I'm committed to being unified,

  94. I'm committed to you.

  95. If the other person is not also committed, it's not going to happen.

  96. You can't force it.

  97. And if you can't do that with one person that you have professed love to

  98. more than anyone else in the world, what in the world makes you think

  99. that we could have unity or force unity upon one another

  100. with as many different people as we have in this room this morning,

  101. with the other 20-something people that were in our first service this morning,

  102. and all the people who aren't able to be here.

  103. You cannot force it.

  104. It is something that God has to do within our hearts as individuals

  105. that cause us to yearn and long and be willing to sacrifice for that unity

  106. in order for it to take place.

  107. And when it happens, we need to be able to guard it with our lives

  108. because it's special, and it's unique,

  109. and it's not something that we as people can duplicate.

  110. It's something that God has to provide.

  111. And that's why it's so important that we guard it with our lives.

  112. That's the title for today's sermon.

  113. And you may have to guard it with your physical life,

  114. but more than likely you're going to have to guard it figuratively with your life.

  115. Don't make any mistake about it.

  116. When you say that you're a Christian this morning,

  117. don't make any mistake about it that Scripture calls us to even give up

  118. our very physical life for the name of Christ.

  119. That's what we've signed up for as believers.

  120. That's what Jesus did for us.

  121. That's what he's called us to do.

  122. You read every book that's written in the New Testament.

  123. Most of the people who wrote New Testament books died

  124. for the name of Jesus Christ and his gospel.

  125. It's what we're called to.

  126. So don't be super surprised.

  127. But more than likely, figuratively, you will have to guard unity with your life.

  128. That means there's going to be aspects of your life

  129. that you're going to have to sacrifice and put to death

  130. in order to maintain the unity within the body of Christ.

  131. You should know, first and foremost,

  132. before we ever hit a rough spot at Graham Chapel,

  133. that that's going to happen.

  134. And I don't want to lie or fib or anything like that.

  135. You know, like I said, it's not that Graham's perfect.

  136. It's not that we all agree on every single thing.

  137. But I do feel like in this current season,

  138. we do have a sense of unity within our church that is very special

  139. that God has given us, that God can use in incredible ways.

  140. But we have to make sure that we are willing to die to ourselves

  141. in order to maintain that unity.

  142. You know that as believers.

  143. You know that as people.

  144. There are relationships in a marriage or a friendship.

  145. You have to sacrifice for one another.

  146. In order to make it work.

  147. You have to give yourself away in order to make that thing work.

  148. And both people have to be willing to do it.

  149. And so it shouldn't come to any surprise

  150. that as Christ calls us to follow Him,

  151. that one of the greatest callings you have in your life

  152. is to maintain unity within the body of Christ

  153. with your fellow believers.

  154. It's so vitally important.

  155. All right?

  156. Most of you in here today are pretty young.

  157. I'm going to ask you to stand once again.

  158. We've had a busy service.

  159. Let's keep you alive this morning.

  160. Ephesians 4 verses 1 through 6.

    Ephesians 4:1–6

  161. Paul is writing to the church in Ephesus.

  162. And the title of this passage is unity in the body.

  163. And let's look at what Paul says to the Ephesians.

  164. Therefore, I, a prisoner of serving the Lord.

  165. So Paul has already been taken into custody.

  166. He's being transported to Rome.

  167. He's still serving God.

  168. He's literally giving up his life to serve Christ.

  169. He's a prisoner now.

  170. Beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling

  171. for you have been called by God.

  172. This morning, make sure you understand as a Christian

  173. that just because you may not be a pastor or a missionary

  174. or have some title, spiritual title to your name,

  175. does not mean that you are not called.

  176. Everybody who professes faith in Jesus Christ

  177. has a calling on their life you have been called by God.

  178. Verse 2, always be humble and gentle.

  179. Be patient with each other,

  180. making allowance for each other's faults

  181. because of your love.

  182. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the spirit,

  183. binding yourselves together with peace.

  184. For there is one body and one spirit

  185. just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.

  186. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

  187. one God and father of all who is overall in all

  188. and living through all.

  189. Very powerful, short passage

  190. that should remind us this morning that Jesus is enough.

  191. You may be seated.

  192. So as we start talking about what it's going to take for us

  193. to guard the unity that God's given us,

  194. point number one is that we must live worthily.

  195. You must live worthily.

  196. To understand that we as Christians

  197. have the calling on our life to live as Christ lived

  198. is very important.

  199. That Jesus Christ did not just down the cross for your sins

  200. so that you can say, I believe in Jesus,

  201. I got a free ticket to heaven, now I can just keep being me.

  202. No, we are wretched sinners.

  203. The whole idea of giving our hearts,

  204. giving our lives to Christ and following Him

  205. is understanding that who we are as people

  206. is sinful and wretched.

  207. And it doesn't mean that every single thing about you

  208. is sinful and wretched, but a lot of it is.

  209. You have been contaminated by that sin.

  210. Everything about our hearts and minds have been skewed

  211. by that sin that is within us that we have allowed

  212. into our lives that we've committed willingly against God.

  213. That's what we believe as Christians.

  214. And so for us this morning to know that we are called

  215. to live like Christ, professing His name is not enough.

  216. But Paul begs these people, he says,

  217. look, live a life that is worthy.

  218. Live a life that is worthy of the calling

  219. that God has put on you.

  220. And it does not mean this morning that you can do this

  221. under your own strength.

  222. We've said it many times, I try to say it regularly

  223. because if you are trying to live for God on your own,

  224. you will fail.

  225. If I do it, I will fail.

  226. We are not strong enough to do it on our own.

  227. We need Christ to fill us with the Holy Spirit

  228. and empower us to live in the way that He's called us to.

  229. And part of guarding the unity of the church

  230. with your lives this morning is not just trying

  231. to live like Jesus, but being filled with the Holy Spirit

  232. so that you can live like Jesus.

  233. That when you follow the Gospels and you follow the Scripture

  234. to understand that Jesus Himself being filled

  235. with the Spirit was led.

  236. Being filled with the Spirit had done this.

  237. Everything that Jesus did, He was filled with the Spirit

  238. and we are called to live like Him.

  239. So we as well need to be filled with the Spirit.

  240. We cannot live a life worthy of our calling

  241. without being filled with the Spirit.

  242. It's unattainable.

  243. And so this morning, if we sit here and we think,

  244. oh, well, we can just have unity

  245. because that's what we want and it sounds good,

  246. it's not gonna happen.

  247. You as people, as followers, me, the rest of the staff,

  248. whoever, we have to be filled with the Spirit of God

  249. in order to lead us to the point

  250. where we're willing to give up our lives

  251. and die in many different ways to see that unity wins

  252. because it's what Christ has called us to do.

  253. And I'm gonna tell you, if you're not filled with the Spirit,

  254. there's nothing within your physical body

  255. that is naturally saying, yeah, I'd like to die to things.

  256. I'm okay with dying.

  257. I'm okay with giving up things that I like,

  258. giving up things I enjoy.

  259. Hey, even if it's not bad and I really enjoy it,

  260. I'm still willing to give it up because that's fun.

  261. That does not happen.

  262. There has to be something within you,

  263. inspiring you and strengthening you

  264. and revealing stuff to you that you can't see

  265. with your own eyes to know that you have to die

  266. in order to live for Christ.

  267. And one of the greatest callings that we have in our life

  268. to live in unity with one another will not happen

  269. without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit

  270. calling us to die to ourselves.

  271. And when you look at this, in 1 John 1, verse 7,

    1 John 1:7

  272. the author writes, but if we are living in the light,

  273. as God is in the light,

  274. then we have fellowship with each other.

  275. So if we're living in the light, we're living in the Spirit,

  276. we're living in fellowship with God,

  277. we're gonna have fellowship with each other,

  278. and the blood of Jesus, his son, cleanses us from all sin.

  279. We're gonna be walking in righteousness and holiness

  280. and purity, and guys, I'm gonna tell you,

  281. that does not happen absent from the Spirit.

  282. When you profess faith in Jesus Christ,

  283. yes, he comes into your heart.

  284. Yes, he cleanses you from your sin.

  285. But to understand the calling in your life

  286. exceeds that infinitely.

  287. That it's not just a matter of in this moment you surrender,

  288. but every day that you surrender.

  289. That every time temptation presents itself

  290. and the opportunity for sin

  291. or the opportunity to be selfish,

  292. and it may not necessarily even look like a sin,

  293. but the opportunity to make choices,

  294. the opportunity to pursue things in life,

  295. the opportunity to be distracted,

  296. that in all of these things,

  297. as we make these decisions,

  298. that the Spirit of God is whispering

  299. to the depths of our heart,

  300. and he's guiding us and he's helping us

  301. not to fall into the trap of being lured away

  302. from our Savior whom we have pledged our life to.

  303. And we can't do that on our own.

  304. We need the Holy Spirit to live in us

  305. so that we can live worthily.

  306. Jesus is enough.

  307. And if Jesus is enough,

  308. then we must live a life

  309. reflecting the fact that he is enough.

  310. That nothing else matters except for Christ.

  311. Nothing else matters except for his church,

  312. his kingdom, his purpose, his plan,

  313. his eternity.

  314. Not my life, not my purpose,

  315. not my plan, not my calling,

  316. not my wants, not my desires.

  317. His.

  318. Jesus should be enough.

  319. But only his Spirit

  320. can help us get to the point

  321. where we're willing to die to ourself

  322. so that we can see

  323. truly that he is enough.

  324. Point number two.

  325. Brothers and sisters in Christ

  326. must be a priority.

  327. You know, a few weeks back

  328. I made you stand up.

  329. I made you go introduce yourself

  330. to somebody you didn't know.

  331. I made several of you squirm.

  332. And I want you to look around

  333. in this room this morning.

  334. And I want you to think really hard

  335. about what it is that you say

  336. that you believe in.

  337. Because I know that each of you

  338. you have friends,

  339. you have people that you prefer

  340. to hang out with

  341. and you have things

  342. that you would prefer to do.

  343. When you look around at the people

  344. in this room this morning

  345. as different as you may be

  346. from one another,

  347. the people who are in this room

  348. that you worship with,

  349. that you call your brothers

  350. and sisters in Christ,

  351. they need to be a priority

  352. in your life.

  353. And it does not mean

  354. that you will be best friends.

  355. It does not mean

  356. that you will go over to each other's

  357. houses necessarily

  358. or spend significant amounts

  359. of time with each other.

  360. But they should be a priority.

  361. You should love them.

  362. You should at least devote your time

  363. to praying for them.

  364. And you say, hey,

  365. I don't know that person's name

  366. but Lord you know that goofy person

  367. who sits over there

  368. and you know who they are.

  369. I'm praying for them.

  370. I don't know what they need

  371. but I pray.

  372. To pray for them.

  373. To lift them up

  374. to be concerned about their life.

  375. Our brothers and sisters

  376. have to be a priority.

  377. Paul lists five things

  378. to the Ephesians

  379. that they need to do

  380. to make one another a priority

  381. and to care for them

  382. the way that we should be

  383. to bring unity.

  384. The first one is

  385. is to be humble with them.

  386. There's no room for pride.

  387. There's no room for pride

  388. inside the body of Christ.

  389. Nothing is more divisive than pride.

  390. Nothing is more repelling

  391. than pride.

  392. So we have to be humble.

  393. Second thing is to be gentle.

  394. You know as you deal

  395. with these people in this room,

  396. some people are going to be

  397. more mature than others

  398. spiritually speaking.

  399. Some people are going to be

  400. more mature than others

  401. worldly speaking.

  402. Some people are going to be

  403. struggling with sin.

  404. Some people are going to be

  405. living in holiness.

  406. We're all going to be

  407. different from one another

  408. so we have to be gentle

  409. with one another

  410. so that we maintain unity.

  411. The moment we become harsh

  412. and demanding

  413. and expressing frustrations

  414. with one another,

  415. that's when unity

  416. starts going out the window.

  417. That's when it changes

  418. from being brothers

  419. and sisters in Christ.

  420. Now I'm mama or daddy

  421. and I'm trying to force you

  422. into doing what I want you to do.

  423. And that goes back

  424. to a sense of pride as well

  425. that I can tell you what to do

  426. rather than being humble

  427. and gentle with you.

  428. The third thing is being patient.

  429. To understand that not everybody

  430. is going to get it right away.

  431. You may have to tell them

  432. a hundred times.

  433. But to be patient with people

  434. who are inside the body,

  435. number four is to make

  436. allowance for their faults.

  437. Everybody in this room

  438. is going to have faults.

  439. Some people are going

  440. to lack social skills.

  441. Some people are going

  442. to lack humility.

  443. Some people are going

  444. to lack kindness.

  445. Some people are going

  446. to lack whatever.

  447. Some people may have

  448. a lifestyle of sin

  449. ingrained in them

  450. and we have to make

  451. allowance for one another

  452. to truly show

  453. the love for Christ

  454. as we maintain

  455. and guard the unity

  456. within the body of Christ.

  457. It is really important

  458. for people to understand.

  459. It's like, dude,

  460. you can go to that church

  461. and they don't treat you

  462. like you should have been

  463. flushed down the toilet.

  464. You don't have to have

  465. your life together.

  466. You don't have to be anything.

  467. You don't have to dress.

  468. You don't have to do anything.

  469. You can just go to that church

  470. and you can be you

  471. and they'll love you

  472. and they'll accept you

  473. and it doesn't mean

  474. that we accept sin

  475. or we put up with wickedness

  476. or anything like that

  477. but there has to be

  478. this understanding of allowance

  479. for each other's faults

  480. because there was a day

  481. and time where I walked

  482. in these doors.

  483. I didn't know how to act.

  484. I didn't know how to talk.

  485. I was not saved.

  486. I didn't believe.

  487. Like I was that person.

  488. There has to be

  489. an allowance for faults

  490. because people need that.

  491. People need to be able

  492. to come in

  493. and become a part of our family.

  494. And the fifth thing is

  495. you got to love them.

  496. Paul talks about the importance

  497. of just simply loving other people

  498. and all of these things

  499. sound difficult.

  500. We're just like,

  501. man, I don't know if I can do that

  502. because people get on the nerves

  503. and it's really hard.

  504. It's like we do this

  505. for people all the time.

  506. The greatest example is kids.

  507. Like I love my kids.

  508. They're almost useless.

  509. Naomi and Perry are just now

  510. getting to the point

  511. where they can kind of contribute

  512. to life.

  513. Like they do chores.

  514. We have them doing things

  515. around the house.

  516. We're kind of slave drivers

  517. a little bit.

  518. It's all right.

  519. They'll live.

  520. A lot of the things that they do,

  521. we have to go back and redo

  522. because they didn't do it well enough

  523. or the right way

  524. or they kind of made more of a mess

  525. than they actually helped with.

  526. But they're just now getting

  527. to the point

  528. where they can kind of contribute.

  529. Poor Hattie does not contribute.

  530. Hattie just takes.

  531. Hattie just tears up.

  532. And the fact that they do that

  533. and who they are

  534. does not change the fact

  535. that we love them.

  536. Like they offer us nothing

  537. but we love them.

  538. It's such a weird concept.

  539. And then we look at the people

  540. across from one another

  541. in this room or even out in the world

  542. or in the workplace

  543. and we say they offer me nothing

  544. therefore I give them nothing.

  545. What a terrible attitude to have.

  546. For Jesus to say

  547. for even I did not come to be served

  548. but to serve others

  549. and to give my life

  550. as a ransom for many.

  551. Who are we to think

  552. that if our Savior

  553. that we so proudly speak His name

  554. and so proudly wear His badges,

  555. His cross on our necks

  556. and on our shirts

  557. and yet we have the attitude

  558. to say well I'm not sacrificing

  559. for that person.

  560. That there would even be one person

  561. that we're not willing

  562. to sacrifice or die for in some way

  563. because they're not worth it

  564. or they have nothing to offer.

  565. They have nothing to give me

  566. or benefit me in any way.

  567. What a terrible attitude to have

  568. to know that Jesus died

  569. for everyone knowing that most people

  570. would still refuse Him

  571. and never accept Him

  572. and He did it anyway

  573. and yet we say that we are little Christ.

  574. We look like Christ.

  575. We act like Christ

  576. because that's what the name Christian bears.

  577. That if we say we are a Christian

  578. that we live and act and look like Christ.

  579. And yet it sounds so crazy to think

  580. that we would be humble

  581. and gentle and patient

  582. and allow people's faults

  583. and to love them to spot

  584. what they probably cannot give us

  585. or offer us.

  586. In 1 Peter chapter 3 verses 8 through 9

    1 Peter 3:8–9

  587. Peter said finally

  588. all of you should be of one mind

  589. and sympathize with each other

  590. to not look at people and be frustrated

  591. but to look at people and sympathize with them.

  592. No, you shouldn't feel sorry for them

  593. because they're not like you

  594. and be the religious leader who said

  595. Lord thank you for not letting me be like them

  596. and thank you for not letting me be like them

  597. but you look at them

  598. and you sympathize with them

  599. because maybe the Lord revealed something to you

  600. that He hasn't revealed to them yet.

  601. Love each other as brothers and sisters

  602. and that's such a weird thing to think about

  603. because I don't know if there's anybody

  604. who can be more cruel to each other

  605. than brothers and sisters.

  606. It's like you know exactly what to do

  607. to anger and frustrate and annoy one another

  608. as brothers and sisters

  609. but yet we are called to be brothers

  610. and sisters in Christ.

  611. The people who literally

  612. aggravate the snot out of each other the most

  613. are the ones that we're supposed to act like

  614. because the truth is

  615. is that the absence of problems is not our testimony.

  616. That if we are actually brothers and sisters in Christ

  617. more than likely there's going to be people here

  618. that aggravate you to death

  619. and that's okay.

  620. And they're going to say things to hurt and offend you

  621. and that's okay

  622. because Lord knows your brothers and sisters

  623. in real life have, right?

  624. And yet for some weird reason

  625. even though there's been times

  626. you've wanted to strangle them

  627. you still love them

  628. because they're your brother and sister

  629. and that's what we're called to be as Christians.

  630. You know as one of those things

  631. as much as I dislike my brothers

  632. my sisters, my two older sisters

  633. they actually would beat people up for me.

  634. It's like they would beat me up

  635. but no one else was allowed to.

  636. They would beat other people up for me.

  637. It's a weird thing to think about

  638. but there's going to be times when we don't get along.

  639. There's going to be times we disagree

  640. but to call in on our life to love one another

  641. and to serve one another

  642. does not disappear because of that.

  643. Point three, we have to make every effort to be united.

  644. You got to make every effort in your life

  645. for this to happen

  646. and that means to sacrifice, to give, to serve.

  647. Last week we talked about this passage

  648. that talked about aiming for it.

  649. If you don't aim for it, you won't hit it.

  650. If you don't strive for it, it's not going to happen.

  651. If you don't die for it, it's not going to live.

  652. You have to die in order to live.

  653. Everything about Christianity is something has to die

  654. so that something else can live.

  655. I don't know if you've ever thought about that before

  656. but everything about Christianity is something has to die

  657. so that something can live.

  658. And in the Old Testament it was animals.

  659. Animals died so that the people of Israel could live.

  660. So they could walk in harmony with God.

  661. And in the New Testament Jesus died for us

  662. so that we could live.

  663. Our God died for us so that we could live.

  664. And in turn we are called to die to ourselves

  665. so that we can live.

  666. We take up our cross so that we can live.

  667. We sacrifice, we die so that we can live.

  668. Unity will not live if we don't die so that it can live.

  669. We will have to die.

  670. And you can't fake it.

  671. Like we said earlier, you can't conjure it up.

  672. You can't make it happen.

  673. You can't force it.

  674. It's going to be an act of faith.

  675. You're going to have to step out and believe that God can do this,

  676. that God can maintain this, that God can see this happen.

  677. And there are going to be things in your life

  678. that you will have to die to, people that you will have to humble yourself before

  679. and love in spite of many things to see unity brought and maintained in your life.

  680. Paul also talks about being bound in peace.

  681. You know, peace is a wonderful thing.

  682. It's one of the things we probably take for granted more than anything else

  683. because when peace is there, we're all happy.

  684. Things are good.

  685. Everyone's satisfied.

  686. When peace is taken away, everybody's miserable, right?

  687. I don't know if you've ever experienced that where peace is taken out of your home,

  688. peace is taken out of a friendship or relationship,

  689. and then all of a sudden it's like, ew, what happened?

  690. Peace is a wonderful gift.

  691. And in Psalm 133, verses 1-3, King David wrote,

    Psalms 133 chapter mention

  692. How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony.

  693. Even the king, even David, could not force peace.

  694. For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron's head

  695. that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe.

  696. Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion,

  697. and there the Lord pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.

  698. Peace is powerful.

  699. It's precious.

  700. It's something that you cannot get on your own.

  701. And when it exists, people are drawn to it because it's not so easily available.

  702. It's rare.

  703. And like we said earlier, it's not the absence of problems.

  704. Peace is not the absence of problems.

  705. Peace is the presence of the Holy Spirit.

  706. It doesn't matter what situation or circumstance or what's going on in your life.

  707. You can have peace through the power of God that supersedes anything anyone can understand or reason with.

  708. Peace is not a place.

  709. It's not a season.

  710. It's not circumstances.

  711. Peace is given by God.

  712. And in the worst times in your life, you can have peace.

  713. And even in the midst of disagreements and arguments and times of hurt and pain,

  714. and maybe we're not all getting along, peace can still reign if Christ still reigns.

  715. But we have to make the decision in our life as followers of Christ.

  716. How important is it to me to maintain one of the most important things that God has called us to do,

  717. which is to maintain the peace that He's given us in our lives.

  718. We're not going to agree on everything.

  719. We're not going to have the same ideas and same preferences on everything.

  720. But remember this, there's one body.

  721. One spirit, one glorious hope for the future, and we're all looking forward to the same thing.

  722. When we all die and we cross over to that other side, it's going to be one heaven, one God,

  723. one song of worship, and we'll all be singing it together.

  724. And all the things that we fought about or disagreed on on the other side

  725. or all the things we didn't said to hurt one another,

  726. or all the things that have happened to us in this life, it's not going to matter.

  727. Because the truth is, Jesus is enough.

  728. And we'll see it so clearly then that Jesus is enough.

  729. We have to live it by faith now, but then we'll see exactly why, in that day, why Jesus is enough.

  730. The greatest testimony that you will give to the world is not that we're perfect.

  731. It's not that we don't have problems or we don't have disagreements.

  732. Our greatest testimony will be the manner in which we deal with them.

  733. The fact that we can disagree and still have peace and unity.

  734. The fact that we can hurt one another and still have peace and unity.

  735. But it means that somebody has to be humble.

  736. Somebody has to be patient.

  737. Somebody has to die in order for that to happen.

  738. And no, we're not going to run around and kill somebody.

  739. We're not talking about that.

  740. You have to die to yourself.

  741. You have to be willing to sacrifice something in you in order to see that happen.

  742. But it's exactly what God has called us to do.

  743. Let's pray.

  744. Father, thank you again for the opportunity to be in your house and to worship.

  745. Thank you again for our body of believers.

  746. And Lord, by no means are we perfect.

  747. By no means is our church perfect.

  748. But Lord, I do believe that you have given us a wonderful season of unity in this time.

  749. But Father, it's not here by accident.

  750. And it's not here because we made it happen.

  751. Lord, it's here because you have been present among us and you have been speaking.

  752. And Lord, there have been people responding to you.

  753. There have been people submitting to you.

  754. And Lord, in the midst of that, peace can reign because your Holy Spirit can reign.

  755. And Father, I pray as we leave this place that we will continue to surrender ourselves to you,

  756. not just in this place, not just on Sunday morning, but God,

  757. that every moment of our life, everywhere we go, every place we're at,

  758. every relationship that we're in, that we would surrender ourselves to you

  759. and that we would be willing to cut anything out of our life,

  760. to die to it, to see that you reign and you are supreme

  761. and you are the God that we say you are.

  762. Father, we thank you and we ask all this in Jesus' name. Amen.
