Holiness Heritage - Bro Thomas Sterrett 5-19-2024

Can we all stand for the verse that the Holy Ghost picked up. I'm

gonna be reading in Isaiah fifty four seventeen. No weapons that is a formed

against these shall prosper. And every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment,

how shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,

and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. I'm thankful,

you know, may me see that. And I'm thankful that the Holy coast.

I'm gonna follow his leading. And really I'd love to hear a pastor

preaching, because i know I'm nobody, but I'm thankful that if it wasn't

for the Lord, it wasn't for the Holy Ghost. And I just be

like mister Wooton said, the faith sit on now. And but I know

that he can be in that voice that sparees not and lifts up a voice

like a trumpet and cries alive. And I know he can be that still

small voice. Holy Ghost can speak in any way, in any means.

He can even use the Samaritans, he can use the talkings and the roosters

praise God. He can use whommever he will. Now I'm not saying they're

going to heaven. But if God's gonna speak to somebody, and the Christian

that's got blood on his head won't warn somebody, the Holy Ghost will send

somebody else. And I don't want the Holy Ghost. I mean, we're

all I know, we're all replaceable. But I'm thankful that God loves each

and every one of us. I'm thankful that we have faith over fear.

And I'm just gonna get here in the reading of the words, get my

glasses on so I can see kay d it's the Lord. I'm thankful that

he give me another year. I have asked. I had a family and

happy birthday, Grace, and I know little sister. Ever, as many

people got some birthdays as Buch and I don't want to stray from the message

because someone asked me. They said, I hope you have a great birthday

this year. I'm like, it's only fifty six over antieth and half a

century, but why has it got to be my greatest? You know?

You know, and but you know, my greatest birthday was when I was

born, and there ain't nothing gonna cop that birthday. But in the natural,

if I if I made my greatest birthday was my fiftieth birthday, which

I was kind of grudguant that I was afraid of all the black broom balloons

and over the hill stuff and all the silly stuff and boom and bloom kind

of birthday. But it was my best and I think my life. She

invited a bunch of family members to church on a Sunday. I had nineteen

family members in church on my fiftieth birthday. Now, unfortunately, I don't

think hardly none of them came back. But you know why today was my

birthday. Grace. I'd be thankful for all my family right here, all

my family right out here. I'll be thankful for a pastor. This is

a great birthday. This is a great Sunday Sunday. Hallelujah. Oh help

me Lord. I'm excited about this message, and I hope it's one of

encouragement. And again we can turn to these verses, but I want you

to know the Holy Ghost wants you to know Isaiah fifty four seventeen. We're

gonna turn to some verses for this message, and I appreciate this off opportunity.

Again, Peter, how I appreciate his prayer at the beginning of the

service. I want to say nothing more and nothing less than what the Lord

would have me to say. And I don't want to take up too much

time. And I know some of you need to recoup and be getting ready

for the worship and praise for tonight. And I'm looking forward to hearing Brother

Jesse preach and just the singing and the worshiping and the praising God. That's

what it's all about, was praising God and Hallelujah. Let's turn the songs

thirty three and verse well, I apologize I should have marked these pages.

I can find them quickly. And the songs chapter thirty three and verse well,

bless is the nations whose God is the Lord, and the people whom

he have chosen for his own inheritance. Amen. Now, I don't know

if you know this, but in Isaiah fifty four and seventeen, if I

can find that word inheritance, I believes in there, Oh, it says

this, This is the heritage of the servants. Amen. This title,

this message today is holiness heritage. Now, and I'm thankful for a holiness

heritage I brought in le Let's read this other verse here, so that verse

there and songs thirty seven, thirty three, and twelve is plus as a

nation whose God is the Lord, and the people who he have chosen for

his own inheritance. The other place we'll be turning to is judot me,

and it's gonna be Chapter four, verses seven through nine. You brod me

for verses seven through nine. For what nation is there so great to have

God so nigh unto them? As the Lord? Our God is in all

things that we call upon him? You call upon him for? And what

nation is there so great that his statutes and judgment so righteous? Has all

the law which I set before you this day? Only take heed to thyself

and keep thy soul diligently. Least thou forgetting things which thine eyes have seen,

and least they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life.

But teach them thy sons and thy son's sons. Hey man, aren't you

glad for the heritage of the Lord. Your son's sons aren't children of heritage

from the Lord. They've got songs one seven low children are a heritage of

the Lord, And the fruit of the wound is his reward. Hallelujah.

This heritage that we have, maybe some of you are like me, and

you didn't have the holiness heritage. And not to embarrass anybody, because you

got the heritage out praise God if you're in the house of God. But

if you never had the heritage of holiness, can you stand this? All

right? Never had heritage of holiness from here? And if I were to

say those that had the heritage of the holiness stand, we have the whole

house stands. Amen. And I'm not talking about a heritage breed turkeys or

heritage chicken. And that's the kind of birds that people want. Holiness should

be something that people want. You want a heritage. You want holiness,

Ama, And I'm just looking at you know where it says you pass it

down from your son's sons. And I think about the prophet Joel. He

says, tell your children, eat your children of it, and let your

children tell their children and their children another generation. Amen. And we and

we read from let's let's turn the song seventy eight, verse six through eight.

We're gonna be in this chapter probably most of the time anyway, but

we'll just go ahead and turn their songs seventy eight. We're gonna read verses

six through eighth, that the generation to come might know them, even the

children which be born, who should arise and declare them to that children,

that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of

God, but keep his commandments. Amen. I don't want to be like

that. Next verse, it might not be as their father's. A stubborn

and rebellious generation. A generation that's setting out in their heart a rising spirit,

is not steadfast for God is past me? Wasn't that far end steadfast

standing for the Lord? Amen? I don't want to be in that place.

Amen. And I'm always reminded of that generation. It's also mentioned there

in Proverbs thirty. I'm gonna turn there just for a moment, Proverbs thirty,

verses eleven through fourteen. I don't want to be like this generation.

Unfroward generation man, this generation that says this. There is a generation that

curses their father and doesn't not bless their mother. There is a generation that

are pure in their own eyes, and yet it is not washed from their

filthiness. There's a generation of how lofty are their eyes that they're high lives

or lifted up. This is a generations whose teeth are as swords and their

jaw teeth as knives to devour the poor from off the earth and the needy

from among men. Amen. I don't want to be a part of the

generation, every generation that thinks the right in their own eyes, or any

generation that thinks they can live without God. Amen. I'm thankful for the

things of God and all that he does and say and and uh. I

was thinking about even as a young ignorant and you and you know what people

are watching, but especially God, God is always he's God sees way more

and here is way more than those that are watching you. God sees and

hears every eye to where he even sees the thoughts and the intents of the

heart. Amen. And as a young ignorant, and in some ways this

is a little bit hopeful, I was thinking about those two young boys that

are in the best ministry, and I apologize I can't remember the name right.

Yes, they witness the testimonies, they've heard, they experienced some answering

prayers. Amen. And as a law center. Now the boy, I'm

sorry. I remember my mother taking me to churches and my grandparents taking me

to churches, and even though I was lost, ignorant and didn't know anything.

I knew that I knew the presence of God when I was down in

that basement Sunday school class and a saying of God. Elderly saint would put

the little felt people on the felt board and teach about Abraham and Isaac and

Adam and Eve and Jesus and and then I and then I remember going to

other churches and it was all about games and board games and hopping and skipping,

jumping ropes on the Halloween parties and dating, and I was like,

fucking the world. I'm you know, even a sinner can tell the difference

when they're out in the world. They see you're dressing different, you're living

different, and you're speaking different. You're not cussing, you're not smoking,

you're not drinking. Oh, they can be ignorant and blind, amen,

but they know there's something different. There's something peculiar about those people. Amen.

They might accuse you of being in a call or leadless some of this

other silly false accusations, but they they know truth. They know right and

wrong. God instilled some form of morality that people can just you know,

I know that Isaiah said, well and then to call good evil and evil.

Good people know that there's just some things that even some sinners or you

know that some of them might not skip. Some of them are true with

the word, and some of them look better than some of these worldly Christians.

But living that, you know more mortals and God forbid, you know,

as holiness, as pure and righteous. But I remember in those classrooms

and spending time with my grandparents, and and I'm thankful for my holiness heritage.

This is an invitation pastor how yeah, just black and white. I

don't think they had colored printers back then. And it's got a picture of

my grandmother and Grandpa Banks. And it's just a special invitation from us to

you. And it left the location, day and time blank, But it

says everyone welcome, and everyone is welcoming. God is, And I'm thankful

to have that heritage. I'm thankful of the memories of going to and from

church, having church. You know, it was an hour drive to go

on Counnel Hill Brotherhood. I remember when we went to church together back in

the days, and I remember that hour long ride of going to church and

the hour ride going back. I remember going just with me and my children

before my wife came and a lot of times I would, you know,

my heart would break up, oh that my wife would come. But she

always had faith. He believed that one day things were going to change and

God was gonna help us. And he has help us a lot. And

uh, I just and and her testimony, and I know she's seen three

people race from the dead, one being her husband. And she's cast out

there as she never had a TV, she never had a cell phone.

Take God, I remember the days of landlines. And and she never took

medicine. I mean, she just she got to the point where she just

trusted and had faith in God. And I'm not saying not to take medicine

because it's according to one faith and I don't want to get into that,

but her fame, she she she felt led to do it that way.

But I remember her testimony as a young Christian. One of the first miracles

was her husband getting saved and we're not saved, race from the dead.

And they called family in. He was laying there that pretty much giving up

on him. They called family in the were playing in their funeral arrangements and

everything. And she made a promise. I want to tell some of these

sisters that like to sit quiet still, and I expect that I respect,

you know, I know, let me be careful here. I want to

say that she wanted to mind the Lord. And she said, Lord,

if you want me to, I'll get out of my pew. I'll testify.

And I worked the altars, I pray for the sick, and and

she just pleaded for her husband. And the Lord told her, I'll do

it. And you know, even when we break our promises, God keeps

it. And I'm not saying she broke it. She didn't. She was

a testified warrior. Amen. A lot of people are. I probably thought

she was a preacher, you know, her testimony and in diary and and

but yeah, she and she worked the altar. She had fir meetings at

her home. And but she she got up and she would praise and shout

and worship God. And she was fearless man, and she feared God.

She always prayed to don't ever let me stop fearing you God. She didn't

fear nobody. And I remember as a young child going to spend the weekend

with her and my dad. That's when they had black and white little TVs.

And he said, well, they're don't gonna spend the night at their

grandparents. They need to have something to watch. She don't have no TVs.

He thought he was gonna bring those TVs. So she said, dog,

you could take those TVs back. There's plenty of wounds to play in,

there's plenty of things to do. Leave them in there. So she

told my dad. Praise God, my mom feared my dad and my grandma.

No, she didn't fear nobody, especially when it came to the things

of the Lord, and we shouldn't fear nobody. Amen. Amen. But

I'm thankful for the holiness heritage. I'm gonna try to stick in the word

here. I can share a lot of things, but going old baby,

holy ghost. I want to say nothing more, nothing less than what he'd

happy to say. And uh definitely want to talk about the definition of heritage

here for a moment. Sometimes we gotta look words up. I'm thankful for

the westerns Unabridged English Dictionary. Amen. You think they're modernized a bottle.

They're trying to do that to the dictionary, the hymnals about every history book

they're trying to read write. And you can't even get on the internet anymore.

They're changing that Stuff's all control. The definition of heritage something transmitted by

or acquired from a predecessor, legacy, inheritance, or an established way of

thinking. Thanks God, how would you think anything else. I don't want

to lean on my own understanding. I don't acknowledge him, Amy, let

him direct my way. Amen. A feeling, amen, doing, or

a person's unique in heritage, sense of family identity. Amen. Just like

the devil, he wants to confuse identity. He wants the men to think

of the money and women in and just even animals. It's silly, these

furs and everything else. But God give us an identity. We were created

in his image and his lifness. He established marriage between one man and woman.

Hence hence Mother's Day, Praise God, honoring thy father and thy mother.

That we do it every day, not just one day out of the

year. But you let that be a reminder to the Heathens. Hey,

you got a mother, you got a father. So I believe in holidays

which are derivative for only days. Amen, it's Christian holidays that we celebrate

the birth of Christ. All they want you to think is about fables.

You know, That's what Paul told us. You know, in the last

days, he wants to get us away from sound doctrin and turn the truth

and took favors. That's why they likes I call him the Satan class.

Give me anybody that's attended by that, Santa Claus or Easter Buddy or eggs

and things like that. And I'm not against culture, culture or traditions,

but when it goes against God's youth, God's holiness, I'm sorry. I'm

not gonna have no part in it now. But the other thing is heritage,

is the saints for the people of God that are called by called,

and his heritage as being claimed by him. That's not what he said there.

And songs or Isaiah. I don't know why I keep I'm gonna keep

reading as long as he tells me to repeat it. That I'm kind of

hide it. And there was Isaiah fifty four seventeen. No weapon that is

formed against these shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against thee in

judgment, thou shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the

war, and their righteousness is of me, saying the Lord, right man,

be again say it the Lord. I don't. I don't want to

ever forsake that heritage. I mean, I don't want to. I don't

want to keep you all too long. So I'm not gonna read this whole

Psalms at seventy eight. But there's a lot of holiness heritage in there that

I believe that God speaks about them forsaken and then keep them and not to

forsake. And and I know, as as young parents, you know,

we've we've got to, as Pastor as Well said, to keep seeking the

Lord. You know, there's a growing, there's a there's a constantly moving

forward into faith. There's a constantly maturing and a perfecting. And I don't

want to ever reach that point where I'm like, hey, I have to

eat up nothing. You know, I'm like to loop warmth church. Amen,

oy the time you do need something, when you start saying things like

that, you do need something. And I wrote this down to here,

I'm gonna leave these notes alone. My children, they were brought up in

the church, and I believe Grason is the only woman was from the infant

to present that was in church the whole time. But unfortunately, my oldest

son and my oldest daughter didn't start going into after I got saved later on

in life. In those ten years was without mom being there. But I'm

thankful that she is there now. And even their friends noticed there was something

different. I remember my son telling me when he was thirteen and some girl

that like and said, I never met a boy that not kissed the girl

away from herself, and she was troubled. End up. She was one

that ended up in the youth shelter pool. A knife on the teacher.

You know how things go. And but thankfully God used that as an open

door and I was able to teach Bible studying that Monroe County you shelter for

many years, for it was closed. But God, our children, our

children are their heritage and his parents and moms and dads. And I know

they're little and they're gonna try your patient. I remember those days. Sometimes

even teenagers can try your patience. Sometimes they didn't say, know it all

children? I don't blame it on all? Do Is anybody other than the

teenagers claimed it all? Anybody there raise their hair pasts right here. I

like you to, Okay, thank God for humbleness a man invented. But

now we we're I'm so thankful again for Pastor How and Sister How in their

family. I see the fruits in their in their works. You know,

the sistant house speaks in in the Sunday school and ask all preaches and even

their their children and even their grandchildren. Ay Man, they get in.

They may not understand everything. Their little hands are praising God and you know,

laying hands and just that's what it's all about. It. You're you're

you're putting your you're passing down a herodage. You're teaching them. You're obeying

there and Deuteronomy six talking about when they when they rise up, when they

sit by the way, and when they at the table, and when they

lay their head at night. When you go back and read there in Douteronomy

chapter six, I'm not pulling a word for word, but those every prompt

from the time they wake up to the time they go to bed, it's

important. There's lessons that can be taught, you know, prayers that can

be caught, you know, mule time, the beginning of the day,

end of the day. Those are important. And I remember as young Christian

that was one of the verses I start going on Infrick the rator Deuteronomy six

about are children so definitely want to obey. I don't want to be as

these generations that are before us. Hearing song seventy eight. Let's look at

verse nine. You're talking about fighting a good five parry pastor that keeping the

armor on is setting verse nine the children will be from being armed and carrying

bows. They were armed. What does it say they turned back in the

day of battle? Right, there's no I believe it's in that hyminal,

that song turning from the Lord. No coward will who knows the worst?

But amen, And we promised the Lord that we were serving till till we

die. I hope we will. You know we're gonna, We're gonna.

We're either gonna die in the Lord or God forbid dying and be a part

of this world. But they kept in verse ten and says they kept not

the cousin of God, and they refused to walk in his law. Marvelous

things in verse twelve that he did in the sight of their fathers. Amen.

And I'm sure the things that they see and it talks about as you

read through there, I'm not gonna have time to read through all this.

But they they seen many great moods of God, miracles. God fed on

me. I mean, I appreciate that pastor's musing that talking about what you

eat and the spiritual food, and said in verse twenty four, and they

brained down Man upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn

of heaven grown corn and heaven God Man did eat angels too, and set

them me to the full in verse twenty nine. And so they get eat

and were well filled. But He gave them where He gave them their own

desire. You know, I hate to be well fed. And I was

thinking about this out on the street, pastor, how you can have the

best pastor. And I've heard people use this illustration with Jews Jesus, all

of Jesus, seeing them over the Jesus, you know, but you're under

the teaching the pastor or the preaching. Go to the best church I consider

in the United States of America. A Lord, forgive me. I'm not

trying to be prouder arrogant to saying that I don't worship my pastor. I

love him. God is number one. But you know, when when it

comes to the pastor and each one of you, my heritage is my holiness,

heritage is under under him and this word, the Word of God.

And but honestly, if you can have the right by amen, you have

the right pastor doing the right church, God forbid fall away, don't do

it. I mean, if you got to pray for the fruits, meet

for repentance. If you can't repent, you better pray for the fruits,

meet for repent. Pray to God will help you repent. Pray for humbleness,

you know. I just I don't want to ever be part of that

following away, but people can't and people do. One of the co workers

I take to work with me, I need to be careful because I don't

want embarrassing because I believe God's gonna save that man. But you know,

he he don't even believe in the Word of God. He believes it's a

made up revision. But yeah, he'll tell me the ark of the covenants

of battery, I mean the pyramid. He's all the angels are aliens.

And just I mean, you talk about perception, a strong delusion. What

kind of reminds me of But he claims to be a realist. If he's

a realist, he really know that God is real man, how could we

not know that God is real? But uh, anyway, let's not forget

our holiness heritage. I was thinking that without it, you know, our

children would be lost. And what I was getting ready to say earlier about

my children is they still there's there's some things that they don't see, but

I see some values that I instilled in him that they still hold you and

they not hold on to God, but they there's still some morals and values

that they learned in the church. Praise God, you trained your children up.

I'm I'm I'm banking on these things. God will pull them back into

the fold and save their souls and that they'll return. And there was another

verse about children and the heritage. But here in last verse here and I'll

be wrapping up here the Psalms one hundred and nineteen and eleven. Thy testimonies

like testimonies. Hey, we got the old and new testimonies right here.

And man, when we got the testimonies of each and every one of you,

man, I've taken as a heritage forever. These testimonies are heritage forever.

For they are the rejoicing of my heart. And we need to rejoice

and be thankful for the heritage that we have. We may not understand some

of the pastors preaching and exhortation and and some of the things that he does

and the fight, the good fight and faith. You know, he hears

babbling spirits and the enemy is attacking because the devil, if any if the

devil hates anybody more than anybody, I say pastors on the top of the

list. Amen, because he sees what Bethel Holiness Church is doing. He

sees the heritage and the legacy that's being laid in the foundation. Amen for

others to following and to come to the knowledge of the truth. And I

don't want to ever forsake that hair dye. Amen. You can say what

you want, and you may not agree with certain methods and certain terms.

And and I know a lot of times things go over my head pastors,

but I'm still learning. And then and and but I don't want to ever

take just because I didn't understand something or something hurt my feelings. I don't

want that to be an excuse to sit quietly, you know, because it's

because God is watching, you know, He's speaks, he speaks a spokesman

for God, and it's God. I mean if he were to say something

contrary to the word of God, and then that might be one thing.

But he's not right, and it's about God and it's not about what other

people are doing. You can watch him out of the quarner yard and you

know, I've seen some people like you know, they're looking around. I

know probably everybody's been guilty of looking around. And sometimes I'll be looking for

my daughter. I'm guilty. Ofttimes I'll be looking for my daughter. I

can't see her, and I'm looking over whatever verse. Yeah, getting in,

I'm looking for my son. Better not have been going to the rest

of you, Amen, and you know, or my wife. And so

I'm thankful that get in and stuff. Don't worry about what other people think,

Grace, don't don't worry out. You know, Oh I'm not good

at It ain't about being good enough. This is He's good enough. Give

him the praise, give him the glory. Words is God, and then

he'll help you to be good enough. And that's what it's about a man,

about praising him, serving him, being on vis it to him.

I mean, talk about jump food and and God will help him. But

you know, you want spiritually fed. This is where you're gonna get You

go out them darts and the minute you flip up in your phone, or

you turn your raid on or your computer, or just out Walmart. I

don't think Walmart employees. You're hard workers. But you went to see the

War. They say you need the holy ghost to go to Walmart. I

can't you need holy ghosts to step out them dogs. I don't care if

it's Walmart anymore. You can't go to the grocery store, you can't go

to anywhere. Sometimes you can't even go to the each of the parties your

job. I mean, I've heard Brother's testified. I've been there. All

you got that rap music and rock music and country music. And what are

they always singing about? Cheating and drinking and doing drugs, against authority,

against God and all they might profess. They know God, I know people

I work with they do. I won't get nobody in trouble. But there's

people out in the world that do drugs, drink sheat, and do all

kinds of evil things that they think they're Christians. Now what kind of where

they get their heads? They don't get it from God. They didn't get

it from his truth. I need to suppose this. I love eat and

every one of you, every family. To me, you're my heritage.

What's left for my heritage? What's left of my life? You know I'm

not promised tomorrow. I know none of us have really promised tomorrow even now.

Don't you know it's a little baby they're going in the world. But

I just, uh, don't forsake your family. I mean, you got

heritage, got holiness. What more is there in life? And we need

this, We need Jesus every day, we need we need God's presents.

The Holy goes. There's a holiness heritage that don't don't let it go,

don't let it slip, don't backslide, don't get it. Look more,

don't be cold. And as we all stand, well, get things this

service and yeah, you know when when you get time today, read that

Isaiah fifty four and seventeen, as Holy goes, and remember what Pastor said,

the harmor of God. You need the armor of God on that God's

trying to tell us this ain't And as Pastor will said, this ain't our

first robeo, this ain't a new We're always gonna I don't know that we

don't want to get sick. Sickness comes problems done, trials and battles.

The day we died. I remember my grandmother when couldn't go to church and

broke her heart. Pastor she couldn't drive the church. You get old,

you can't do the things that you want. Excuse to do, the thought

of losing my wife or her losing me. I want to, I want,

and you lose a spouse. You gotta remain strong and stead fast in

the faith. Ain't time to run, ain't time to back up. You

gotta never give up. Did y'all get up? He lost ten children,

asked he lost his well, he didn't lose his integrity. He didn't curse

God. He's got every people cursed God and stubbing her finger right, He's

kept his integer. I want to keep on tagert. I want to be

perfect and upright, one of these fused evil and fears God. And uh,

I know we can, we can. We can reflect on our memories.

I know Memorial Days coming up, and just didn't have anything to do

with Memorial Days. The way it comes to mind of saints gone by.

I'm truly thankful for Mecca hold in this journey. This is your herintage,

back your pastor pray for sister, how I've passed, How pray for these

children? You know you're not out of my kid. The enemy wants to

break up homes and he wants to break up parage. He wants you to

get mad at your children and does not spend time with I'm guilty of that.

I'm living the consequences. But you know what, I don't. Thank

God he's saved and he forgave me. But just because you gotta live with

consequences, it's not a time to I'll give up, get mad and bitter

and unforgiving. I have three children. Well, I'm sorry, I I

just I'm gonna open these altars and just remember your heritage. Thank God for

those that went on, praying that you continue it on. Continue the past

is heritage ohn to teach their children Aman, because there is there's a lot

of hurt if you don't trade him up and down in the way that you

go. You know, if there were some verses in the Bible about mother

going against son and father against daughter in law and the family fighting, and

I've been through that, it's horrible, and I know many of you have

been through families fighting and lost family. Pray for them, our love our

enemies, and pray for them that dislike will use us to persecute us.

Pray for our fellow in ploueens. Pray for the loss, and then pray

for one another. You see a brother slipping or a sister slipping up,

flip them up. Amen, walk on that enemy. I love that children's

song. Pick your father up and pick your sister out. Ah, tread

down on. Put your foot on that enemy. Keep him under your feet,

not on your shoulder, not in your head. Man, you gotta

be in a sound night right, have that fenimous I dish on that sword

of the spirit with shield of thick breastplate of righteousness. And then pastors all
