I'd Rather Be With Jesus - Bro Jeremy Howell 7-6-2025

I want to preach a message the Holy Ghost titled

I'd rather be with Jesus.

I'd rather be with Jesus.

Brother Nathaniel acts chapter number fifteen and verse number thirty eight.

Listen carefully, but Paul thought.

Not good to take him with them, who departed from

them from Pamphilia and went not with them to the work.

Did y'all listen to that word with in that verse

of scripture that Brother Nathaniel just read to us. The

Apostle Paul did not feel it to be a good

idea to bring John Mark with him. Apostle Paul did

not want John Mark with him. Aren't you thankful this

morning that God is in our midst and that God

is with the two or three that are gathered together

with the Apostle Paul had no desire whatsoever for John

Mark to be with them.

Do you know why?

Because John would rather be in Jerusalem with his mother.

He would rather be in Jerusalem with his mother. I'd

rather be with Jesus. Look at your neighbor and say, hey, neighbor,

I'd rather be with Jesus. That's not an insult. I

feel like every child of God in this building is

blessed to be in the company of whom you're in

company with. But it's good for you to be able

to say, I'd rather be with Jesus. If given the choice,

I'd rather be with the Lord. Brother Jesse Ruth chapter

number one, Verses number sixteen and seventeen.

And Ruth said, entreat me not to leave thee or

to return from following after THEE. For whether thou goest,

I will go, And where thou lodgest.

I will lodge.

Thy people shall be my people, and thy God, my God.

Where thou diest will I die? And there will I

be buried? The Lord do so to me. And more also,

if aught but.

Death part THEE and me.

There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that Ruth

would have liked to have went home on a temporary

basis before Naomi set out for the Land of Bread.

But she would rather be with Naomi.

Okay, Naomi, if you're leaving and we must make haste,

then we must go. I'd rather be with Naomi. And

John Mark could rather be with Mama.

Praise the Lord.

Let's stand Mark Chapter number five, verse number eighteen. The

Bible said, and when he was come into the ship.

He that had been possessed with the devil, prayed him

that he might be with him, prayed him that he

might be with him. The formerly demonically possessed individual desire

to be with the Lord. Let's pray, Heavenly Father, we

thank you, We praise you for this people. We thank

you for fohfc if I we thank you that this

is our tenth anniversary. We pray that you would bless

each and everyone as we prepare, bless those that are

making their way here. We pray this morning that you

would help us deliver this message that you have put

on our heart.

I pray you would.

Anoint the lips of this thy servant, set of guard

at my mouth, and help me to say the things

you would have me to say, nothing more or less,

and not the ears of this thy people, that they

might hear what the Spirit.

Of God says unto the church today.

Let these sayings go below the shoulders, Let them saturate

the spirit, the heart, the soul.

We pray help us to be hearers. Lord and doers.

We give you.

Praise and honor and glory in Jesus' name. And the

church said, Amen, and may we depart this place. Joyfully

and not sorrowfully again a message the Holy Ghost titled

I'd Rather be with Jesus our textas found in a

New Testament book.

Of the whole Bible.

The Gospel according to Mark is in fact one of

the four Gospels. The Bible readers and the Bible students

alike here in this building this morning can tell you

that there are some wonderful things written about the Lord

and Savior Jesus Christ in this gospel.

I want to.

Point out to you the contrary to the belief and

the understanding of many, Mark was not one of the disciples. Again,

Mark was not one of the disciples, and yet he

penned this gospel.

The same can be said for.

The writer of the fourth Gospel, Luke, the Beloved Physician,

was not one that was handpicked, especially chosen for ministry

by the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Neither one of

these authors of these two gospels were men that walked hand.

In hand or shoulder to shoulder with Jesus.

But these men, obviously and evident had some sort of

unique experience in Jesus that compelled them to follow Jesus.

Concerning the miraculous happenings and instances involved in his ministry.

These men became persuaded to be intimately involved with Jesus.

And aren't you thankful that they put pen to parchment

and gave us these sacred writings.

But when you.

Think of this particular man here, John Mark, you think

of somebody who's past was blacked. He had a black

cloud over him because he was a mama's boy. And

he was such a mama's boy that whenever he embarked

on a missionary trip with the great Apostle Paul and

perhaps his uncle Barnabas, at some point he became a

home sin brother Nathaniel. As you follow to follow the

books of the Acts, and you read the writings of Luke,

the beloved Physician as recorded by him, you can tell

that the Apostle Paul noticed that as long as everything

was going well, John Mark was glad to be there.

But as soon as they got him to the company

of strange people in a strange land, and as they

set forth and to go into a different direction, John

Mark decided, I'm not comfortable with the arrangements, and so

he abandoned his assignment, and Apostle Paul took great offense

to this, And you will recall the writings of the

apostle paul. In one of the Pauline epistles, he spoke

of the ministers of God being faithful. There's another writing

that says it is required in stewarts that a man

be found faithful. There's another writing that said he counted

us faithful by putting a us into the ministry. So

evidently John of Mark's entrance into the ministry was premature.

Could it have been because of John Mark's mother's relationship

with the apostles, those men that did rub shoulders with

Jesus Christ. You will remember during the imprisonment of Peter,

it was at Mark's mother's house where the saints of

God gathered together and they prayed the glory down until

an intercessory angel went to the prison house and released

a prison of Peter of his bonds. You find this

man used his connections in order to get into a

situation that most people would have desired to have been in.

I know that Brother Nathaniel, myself and brother stare it.

We would have been on board, and we would have

loved to have embraced an opportunity to travel with the

lights of the Apostle and Apostle Paul. Imagine for a

moment how it must have felt to have been the

assistant to Uncle Barnabas and the great Apostle Paul. This

man was traveling with two very notable men within Christendom,

founding fathers, men that no doubt possessed the spirit of

Christ and the Anointed of God. You're talking about a

given spirit. According to scription, there was no giver like

that of Barnabas, and so he sold all of them possessions.

And he brought the sum of the money that he

received after the sale and that transaction, and he laid

it at the Apostle's feet. This is the caliber of

a man that this young man is traveling with. Again,

if I read the Bible, and I read it with

an open mind, I believe Barnabas is the uncle of

John Mark. Can I tell you here this morning that

it does not matter who your special connection is in

the House of God.

Which you rather be with Jesus.

You come here this morning because you want to be

with Pastor Howell, with these elders, these men and women

that possess the spirit of David and Debor these prophesied

saints of God that proclaim and preach the whole counsel

of God.

You love to save. I dwell in.

The midst of people of this caliper and capacity.

But do you really have a relationship with the Lord?

When I think of some of these elder saints in

this building this morning, I think of people that if

Jesus Christ was to walk into this building and interrupt

Pastor Howell, and he would be welcome to do so.

This is evident in the fact that the Holy Ghost.

Is welcome to interrupt or disrupt our services and to

put us in alignment.

With his will.

But if Jesus was to walk in in this building

this morning, there would be some in this building that

would rather be with Jesus than with the people inside.

Of these four walls. There's no reason at.

All whatsoever for why we could fault them for such a.

Desire as this.

I'm sure as they turned loose from the dock, and

as they sat sound by the Jesset, and as they

embarked on this voyage, it must have been a wonderful

feeling for.

John Mark to realize I am on board.

I have begun this missionary triple with these great people

of God that I feel like his priorities were not right,

and he really had no desire whatsoever personally to be

with Jesus on this journey. How many are you if

you are thankful this morning that you have Jesus along

for the rest on this journey. I've heard people say

before that Jesus is the code pilot, and I've heard

people retort with these words, Honey, he is not my

code pilot. Jesus is the pilot on board of this vessel.

And so this man's fascination soon.

Came to a screeching halt whenever he realized we may

face things that I did not anticipate. We may go

through some things, including the possibility of almost losing our life.

I did not factor this into the equation of ministry

praise the Lord. So I'm sure it was an amazing experience.

But for different reasons, John Mark decided to abort the

mission and the assignment, and ultimately he abandoned the friendship

of the Great Apostle Paul and left.

To barn Us up in his way.

At that time, Paul felt that John Mark's unfaithfulness and

lack of dedication that put him to the side for ministry.

Apostle Paul did not feel that that young man should

even be considered.

For another mission trip.

Brother Nathaniel the Apostle Paul felt that John Mark was unfitted,

in an Apostle Paul's words, unprofitable for the ministry and

missionary as service.

How about you this morning, young person?

Are you unfit and unprofitable for the service today? Or

for the beth of hole in his church family, or

for the king and for the kingdom. While I was away,

Brother Samuel Howell preached a message that was a blessing

to my soul.

And the so many others.

He preached a message title from a bother to a brother.

This young man had definitely been a.

Bother to the Apostle Paul, he's unfit.

For missionary service.

But because of the incestic training of Barnabas, he became

a profitable man to the ministry, and he was no

longer a bother. He was a brother. There was something

inside of John Barker that should not have been there.

His parties were missouliined, come on, now, I don't know

where you're at mentally right now. You may be in

line with the baptist at the buffet.

Your stomach may be growling as miney is.

I don't know where John Mark's mine was when he

was afford the vesselman or when they were traveling on land.

But Brother Nathanuel, it seems to me like him. He

longed to be with friends and a family. He enjoyed

being away for a few days, like brother you. Mine

Jesse did recently, like brother Cheermne. Brother Jesse did a

recently when they embarked on that vessel and took up

a few days cruise. The sister Howell, whenever I read

about John Mark, I see somebody unwilling to make an

all inclusive sacrifice of for ministry. He didn't enjoy being

in strange places amongst strange people, and he went back home.

I'll never forget that particular night when brother Jesse messaged

me after two or three days of touring here and

there and cruising in the Caribbean Sea.

Brother Jesse had a look in his eyes as.

He spoke to me in that video chat up, and

he said, I'm ready to be home. I'm ready to

be with my family. I'm ready to be with my children.

I'm ready to be with my mother and with my father,

and with my church people. He set being gold for

a few days was definitely a benefit the sister hand

of and I was a blessing to us that we're

ready to get home better Jesse. I wonder if that

was the mindset and the mentality.

Of John Mark when he got on board the vessel.

He was just thinking of taking a little trip, perhaps

a little cruise.

Or a little ride. That sounds like a lot of

people today, doesn't it. They get up out of their

pew and they walk to the altar they.

Made or may not, kneel down, and.

They cry what appears to be crocodile tears, and they say,

I'm sorry for getting called, I'm sorry for pure a conviction,

I'm sorry for filling condemnation. But they're not at all

interested in a daily walk with you, Jesus.

They're not interested in being with Jesus.

You can tell that by Sunday night, when the Saints

gathered together at six pm, all of the Saints of

God expectum let new born Christian to walk.

In with the Bible they fought from dollar General talk

to under their arm.

They expect them to be full of joy, theyin't glad

to be a symbol together with people of like precious faith.

But as the saints worship.

And look for the glass door to swing open, it

never moves. No, it doesn't even move a corner of

an inch, and it falls that person. They wanted a

little relief, but they didn't want a relationship.

I said, that's what.

A lot of people are telling us here today. They

like the reliefer, but they don't want the relationship.

Or come on now, when.

I got in of this thing called Christianity and gave

my heart that Jesus, I wasn't looking for a cruiser.

I wasn't looking for two the three day journey. It's

a lifetime commitment, I said, it's a lifetime commitment. There's

people in this building you've had a hard time over

the years understanding you don't just throw yourself to anything

and everything that pays you a little attention. It's because

you never considered that the commitment. There's a lot of

little Susies that ended up popping out to them with

little babies in their belly because they didn't ask the

guy where his heart was.

And they were not interested.

And considering a commitment I'm preaching to.

You right here this morning. Would rather be with Jesus.

I'm telling you there's people that they do things they

think they ought to, but they're not faithful. They're not

committed to loyalty, they're not dedicated to service. They backside

after three months of being a.

Child of God.

They seek again the weakome and burger the elements of

the world.

They're still fascinated by the world.

The spirit of Dona is upon them.

They'd rather be there with.

The world and with a family of God. I don't

know about you all, but I'd rather be right here

in the House of God today they're anywhere else. Praise

the Lord. I know he enjoyed being away for a

few days. Some of you are you enjoy vacation and

getting away for a few days. But john Mark was

unwilling to make it all inclusive sacrifice. Ministry says to

how early on we realized that if we were going

to be the pastors here at this work that had

pretty much been abolished and as all that we would

have to make the all inclusive sacrifice. We would have

to do things that nobody else was willing to do,

that no one else was willing to commit to. And

that's how John Mark was when he started seeing strange

things happen in unfamiliar territory presenting itself. He said, bye bye, Paul,

and he went back home loop the beloved position recorded

in Acts fifteen and thirty eight of this particular happenstance,

he said that john Marks departure was not well accepted.

With these words, he said, who.

Departed from them and went not with them to the work.

This particular man departed the company of the great Apostle

Paul because he was afraid to work.

I said, because.

He was afraid to work, he went not with them

to the work. I remember early on as we were

getting started, and we had those four people besides this

the Howl and I and our little children who were

still so young, and so for a good reason something whatsoever.

We cannot really count them children as members of the church.

There they were so little, they had nothing to give.

But brother Tyler, we invested so much in them four people,

and we were willing to be with them. Come on now,

willing to be with them. It wasn't that we were

in search of relationships or friendships. It wasn't that we

had a need and a life to be received socially.

It wasn't that we didn't know how to show our

sef friendly and made friends. It wasn't that we couldn't

have went up the road somewhere else and pastor the

church with a larger congregation. But there was a desire

to be with those four people. And in time we

started street ministry, and we started preaching outside of the

churches or Walsam and Sister Woot come by, and she

noticed the spirit and recognized it as the same spirit

of God that people of yesteryear had of what she

had been looking for.

For all of them years. And she went to the

back of.

That truck and she asked Sister Howell, She said, where

are these people having church? Who is that man out

there preaching?

And Sister Howell.

Said, that man is my husband, and he's pastoring a

little church down there upper Cornelia Drive. And Sister Woot

and their husband said we will be there in the morning.

And the rest is history. But there's been a lot

of times, Brother jes come hard times are good times.

I looked at Sister Howard and I've said those six

people were with us. I said, those six people were

with us, and listen as soon as theres a little

turbulence and a little problem, those people that put one

leg over the side.

Of the boat and started looking.

For an opportunity to leave us, sir, it is disturbing

and unsettling them to any member of a congregation, when

they realize these people don't want to work, come, I said,

when they don't want to work. That is what Loot

wrote down. That was Paul's sentiments. That was Paul's statement.

He departed from us because he.

Did not want to go to the work. Work is

just that it is work. It is not a pleasure

for experience.

It is not lying in a bed of It is

not doing.

Metal to get by. It is work. You must work out.

You're all salvation, for you're in trembling by going to church,

by gathering on the believers.

You must work.

Out your salvation. You must gather or two or three

are gethered. And then your promised the power of his presence.

I said then that only then, or you promised the

power on his.

Presence, just the how I've seen Evangelis set out.

I'm going to evangelize, but until it becomes work, when

it's no longer a vacation. When it becomes work, they decide,

I'm not cut out for this. Oh, Mama didn't tell

your mama called Evangelis about to work in voult Hey,

john Mark, your praying mother knew about to exploits and

the actions and the persecutions of the apostles. You didn't remember,

John Mark, how Peter and them apostles got persecuted. You

don't remember John Mark about this. You don't understand. You

ain't considered the cost. You don't know what it takes.

To serve God. Well, come on the night that I

came down to the altar in nineteen ninety two.

Of October, I'm telling your brother, Nathaniel.

I knew he required commitment. I said, I knew he

required commitment. I heerd. Sister won't tell her Grand juneing

for years. If you don't mean.

Business with a lord, don't go down to the altar

and played games.

It wasn't because she was telling them don't pray. It

wasn't that she was to say it. Don't gather.

What she was asking is would you rather be with Jesus?

Which you rather be with Jesus?

Who you know? Who it is you are speaking to

while you're.

Down there in the offer, Oh Holy Ghost, help me

please many when they enter evangelistic service and pastoral ministry

and mission work, Brother Nathania, they put their hand to

the plow, and soon after they look back. Can I say,

most look back, and in doing so they miss out

on so much? I said, most look back, especially in

this day and hour, and in doing so they miss

out on so much. I wonder what old John Mark

missed out on by choosing to forsake.

Paul and Barnabas.

I wonder what those that didn't come back after they

pray for salvation have missed out on.

I wonder if they're.

Perfect companion or the special someone, or them beautiful children

they were supposed to receive from the hand of God

would have been a great bless to them, But they

missed out oh so much. I want our young people

to know we can miss out on the things of

this world. I'm glad I've been left out of some

things that are happening out there, but I.

Don't want to miss out on what's.

Happening there inside of here, I said, I don't want

to miss out on what's happened in there among the

people of God. Sean Mark, it could have been saying,

missed out on so much. They're missing out this morning,

Sister Howard.

Then fit this morning.

Sister Howard, that because they took the hand, they oft

the plow, and they looked back awk for desire to

go back to something.

They laughed. I said, they had a desire to go

back to something, they laugh and then doing so, then

I missed out on so much.

I want how John Mark felt when it heard how

God was blessing the mission.

Of Paul and Silas.

I wonder how John Mark felt whenever Barnabas was having

to devote so much time to mensure his mentorship of him,

while Paul and Silas saw miracles and got the blessings

of apostolic breathing. I wonder how he felt when he

looked out there and saw the blessings of God upon

these men of God.

Listen. He might have been with Mama, and he might have.

Been with church people, but he was missing out on

being with the apostle. Paul, I said. In his case,

he might not have wented to the world. He made

not a drug A high backed chair up to a

desk in corporate America. He might not have went and

bought Peter's fishing boat. He might have tried to stay

close to Barnabas and his mother.

What was her name, Mary, I can't remember. He might have.

But there's a a lot of people, brothers just see

they even do something along them lines.

They try to.

Go back to sucking that seems to be smack dath

center of God's will, only to find out they're missing

out on being in the center of God's we all.

I feel like preaching, but I'm trying to hurry, and

you can tell them I'm trying to hurry. I don't

want to keep it too long. Should I keep preaching

or should we.

Go to the chicken house?

Hey man, when you look at our golden texts, you

find somebody else that knew they needed to be in the.

Presence of somebody.

But it wasn't John Mark wanted to be in the

president presidence of the Company of Mama or amongst the

other Postolic brethren. I'm not talking about a oneness doctrine here.

Postalic doesn't mean oneness in this case. But Brother Nathaniel,

we're not talking about John Mark wanting to hold on

to Mama's apron streams. We're talking about a man known

as Legion of Ganera. And according to one of the

other gospel writers, he said, there was two of them men.

And you know what this particular man, he wanted to

be with Jesus, our.

Golden text said. And when he was come into the ship.

He that had been possessed with the devil, prayed him

that he might be with him. This means he literally

begged Jesus for him to allow him to go with him.

He begged to go with Jesus. I thought John Mark

definitely probably begged to accompany the apostle Paul.

But after he got on board and.

Began that journey, he disembarked and headed home in another vessel.

Come on, but this man right here, he was willing

to go with Jesus.

And I'm talking about all the way.

The Bible readers and the Bible students among us know

this narrative quite well. A demon possessed man had an

encounter with the demon Destroyer, who by the spoken word,

delivered his soul from its course of destruct And after

he had been delivered, once he became a new creature,

he wanted to be with Jesus, I said, after his

deliverance and after he was a new creation, he wanted

to be with Jesus. Did you notice the latter part

of the gold in Tensa. This man prayed that.

He might be with him. Allow me to joll your memory.

Don't lose this important fragment of details within this man's story.

This pressly delivered man had to have witnessed the members

of the town that tell Jesus he had to go.

And this is.

Where God gave me the inspiration for this message. This

is where the title came from. As you think about

an entire town that had marveled at what God had

done that and marveled about Jesus's power over the demonic

spiritual and the Bible said, probably through fear.

They asked Jesus to leave her.

He didn't say that they asked for Jesus to be arrested,

and then say that they ask for Jesus up to

be cruciprid. He didn't say that they asked for Jesus

up to be murdered.

They just asked him to go.

And while these people are misunderstanding the ministry of the Messiah,

this one man is apparently the only one that's saying,

if you must go, then I must go.

That's what the Holy Ghost spoke.

Into my heart when I got this message. If he

must go, then I must go with him. I'm telling

people in this building right here this morning.

If Mama don't go, I'm going anyway. If Daddy don't

want anybody, I want him anyway.

If the rest of the church world wants he to leave,

I'm going with him.

Right And if he ask him the leader, how God, where.

Am I'd rather be with Jesus.

I'd rather be with Jesus. It's Jesus, goes I go. Oh, yes,

so we're gonna take a young brother nobuhi.

It could have been gentiles or Jews on that particular

side of the sea who were allowing the herds of

swine to dwell there.

It could have been.

Wild pigs that somebody had corralled. It could have been

farm raised pigs that somebody had put in there. I

want you to know, Jesus doesn't play games.

Church.

When he turns water into wine, he's not playing games.

When he turns water in the swine, he ain't playing games.

Did y'all get that? When he turns water into wine. Oh,

come on, I'm telling you, when he turns water in

the swine the old sweet lamb of God. I don't

care if it was Jews or Gentiles. They can debate

on that till Jesus comes back. I don't care who

was farm and what who was growing on that side

of the lake.

But I know that Jesus.

Came there, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if

it wasn't so called Jews that were raising them pigs.

You know why, because I know of people that called

themself holiness and Pentecostal people in the state of Kentucky

and other states that don't nothing of raising 'bacca tobacco

bacca tobacco for financial game. I'm telling you that's a

lot of people.

Then the wrong thing, with the wrong motives.

I said, I know people that called themselfs holiness that

raised tobacco.

For financial gain.

Hey, come on, what the god that Samsa was here

and then he could tie the fox's tails together and

run them through the tobacco fields of Kentucky, E said,

thy God, Hocky, hen hadn hockey help me? Tell he

to never do anything for fin that's a game concerning

the kingdom.

I wouldn't be surprised a bit, Mother Philip.

How if it wasn't greedy Jews raised the pigs for

financial gain?

Should I keep preaching? Let should m go the chicken house?

Notice this Jesus was boarding the ship, and there's some

on board. And as they're preparing for his departure, this

man being newly delivered, this newly delivered individual, he begged

Jesus to allow him to accompany him. I'm preaching on

I'd rather be with Jesus, and mom and dad don't go.

You still gotta go.

If Mam and dad don't want to serve him in

the beauty of holiness, you still had to serve him

and worship him in the beauty of holiness. If nobody

wants to get in the center at God's will with you,

you still have to dwell innocent.

That God's will if you want to make it to heaven.

But if you fall in love with Jesus and say,

I'd rather be with Jesus, not, I'd rather be with

just the road gap.

I'd rather be with Nathaniel.

Howell, I'd rather be with Jesse Howell, I'd rather be

with fill of Powell. I'd rather be with Catherine road Camp.

I'd rather be with Jesus. Hoh, come on, now, do

you feel that way? Do you feel that way? The

Apostle Paul said, Now, to be absent in body is

to be present with the Lord. Apostle Paul said, really,

if you oppress me, I will tell you that I'd

rather be with the Lord.

But my departure is not in order right now. I

must terry because it's more needful for you to have

me here.

Apostle Paul said, it's more important for you that God

not take me right now and that I be here.

That's how I feel about some of you. If an

element of this church was to be fragmented him, they're

taken to heaven. There's a bunch of you with backslide,

I said, there's a bunch of you with backslide. It's

important for us to be here, but it's even more

importent for you to be with Jesus. I said, it's

even more important for you to be with Jesus.

The apostles.

Character in their ministry was notable because they had been

with Jesus. They had learned the ways of Jesus, they

had learned the ways of Jesus.

They had put on the mind of Christ.

They understood him, they became like him. So Apostle Paul's

telling early Church, you better hope and pray. How donld

die prematurey. You better seek God and ask God to

let me live on your behalf. But it comes to shove.

I'd rather be with Jesus, That's what Apostle Paul said.

I'd rather be with Jesus. But for right now, I

need to hang around to preach to your brother Jeremiah.

But I'd rather be with Jesus. I'm telling you there's

saints of God in this building that's got precious companions

and precious children, in precious ministries and precious church family.

If death's door was to open right here, I know

of about a dozen that would run through it because

they know, just as soon as they draw that last breath,

they're in the presence of the Lord talking about After

a while, it'll be over talking about it. They'll come

a glad day after a while, Sweet Lamb of God,

I feel the Holy Ghost in this place. I want

you to obey the Lord right now. This demonically possessed

man was delivered by the power of God. Why shouldn't

he feel like I'd rather be.

With him, his scarred wrists, his scarred ankles, his scarred body,

his scarred face, and he sees everybody rejecting him.

His deliver rejecting his deliverer.

I could see it now, brother Nathaniel, in my mind's eye.
