Not Just Another Carpenter - Bro Roger Purdy 2-1-2026

Before and I was man, you know, and I was here,

you know bell it was a different church. I mean,

it was a different building back in eighty four. I

think I can't remember who passed her. Then we sister

my wife, she says, some blond hittered guy. I remember.

I remember coming here though, and we preached here on

Sunday morning, and then we were on somewhere else. Of course,

I then had four little children, you know, they were

they're small, and uh uh, I appreciate my wife. She

she was the one that actually drove down here. They

won't let me drive, which which brings up something else. Yeah,

I gotta I'm using this iPad because I can't see

anything else, so I gotta use that iPad. But that's

all right, we'll we'll work on that. But I'm so

thankful we came here. When I come here yesterday, they

give us this wonderful, wonderful place today. And of course

it was cold outside and then that they had the

air on inside. And years ago I'm from originally from Iowa,

and uh, we used to go up home, my folks. Now,

we used to go up to Minnesota fishing. So that's

further north in Iowa and It kind of reminded me

of us that kind of thing. We went up there

and we would fish. But when we check in the

cabins in Minnesota, even in the summertime, you took coats

because sometimes it'd be hot, but a lot of times

he'd be cold, especially along the lake, so we knew.

My mom always said take coats now, you know you're

gonna need coats. And you know, even when it was

hot than I was, and Imber, sometimes we go in

there check into our cabin, it'd be cold. And I

thought of that south. Are we in Minnesota? Are we

in South Florida? Where are we? I had to check

my geography and I tell my wife, my honey, I

know we are in We are in South Florida. I

know it feels like Minnesota, but it's not. It's South Florida.

So I'm just thankful. I'm just thankful we were able

to you know, I'm just thankful we were able to

actually come in and there, you know, and get in here.

We're thankful for everything. And I was also we went

somewhere to eat last night, and I'm so thankful to

see if a man people preaching on this corner with signs.

I knew right away who you were. I didn't think

I knew you weren't protesting. You're protesting against the world.

That's what you were doing. That's fine, you know, but

I mean, I knew it wasn't political. I could tell

about the size, and we could because i'd heard now,

brother Billy Brock, he goes here right when he's when

I know he's out all the time, but he comes

to our church quite a bit, and he's also told

us about that. He told that they do this on Saturdays,

and I thought, this is wonderful. Next Saturday, if we

make it home through the ice and everything, we're supposed

to be under the bridge, preached to the homeless. We

do that every every so we're that would be our

first Saturday. We'll be doing that. We do it every

other every other month. And uh and get out there

and we sing, and then we've preached. I preached for

maybe twenty minutes or so, and then they hand out food.

But uh, you know, it's wonderful. But I thought this

was well, so of course I stopped and I said,

hey man, we love this and everything. We just really

appreciate what you're doing because I want to. You know,

it's about time for him to shut down the time

we got there. But I'm so thankful. I'm glad for

people doing that. I tell you, we need to do

more of that at home if we're thinking. My wife says,

you need to do some of that time, and I said,

we live out we're blaired heels out there kind of

in the country, you know, and we don't have a

big square like that. But you know, this is really

important and I'm so thankful for it because I'll tell

you what the cults are out there. They really are. Well,

I know it's it's getting late, so I'm not gonna

and maybe we'll place some tonight, maybe a soul to tonight,

but we'll do it. I'm gonna get right into it.

And it seemed like there was something else I wanted

to say, but I didn't write down. So I guess

if I don't write down anymore, you just you know,

you lose it. So but amen, I want you to

know I want to be encouragement this morning, but I was, well,

maybe warning, but encouragement. But listen, everything's not gonna stay

the way is. And this is kind of what Brother

Howl was saying. Earlier kind of ties in for our

message today. If you'll turn with me, tie Isaiah sixty one,

very familiar scripture. Some of you might even be able

to quote it. Isaiah sixty one. We're gonna read the

first few verses and the scripture, and I mean it's

very familiar. And here here it is. It was written

by Isaiah maybe seven hundred and seven to fifty BC

years ago. And I told people, you know, the Bible

is the only book I know that people get up

early in the morning and read a book that was

written three in some cases three thousand years a goal.

Who does that? What other book do you do that with? Well,

there's no other book I know. I mean the Koran.

They didn't do that, man, I mean you know, well,

you know, you know the Koran was not no even

even the Odyssey and all these other books of your books.

You know, there's a Homer's Odyssey I think was well,

I don't know six or five hundred BC or something

or but but who how many gets up there and

reads Odyssey? Aybody get up there in the morning, read

the Odyssey? You read the Ossey. I'll tell I don't either.

I don't have a book I had to read in

college and that was enough for me. I didn't want

to read anymore and it didn't make sense to me.

But this makes sense. The word of God makes sense. Aymen,

Praise God.

Ay been.

Isaiah sixty one. The spirit of the Lord God is

upon me, because the Lord hath annoyed me to preach

good tidings into the meek. He has sent me to

bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,

and the opening of the prison to them that are bound,

to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and the

day of vengeance of our God. To comfort all that mourn,

To appoint un to them that mourn is Zion, to

give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy

for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness,

and that wonderful Amen. I mean, amen, We're not We're not.

We're not like I mean, we don't have to be.

I know we go through times. I'm gonna read the

Restless down here, but I know we go through times

and depression. I know we go through times when it

looks like, oh, you know, you really don't know, times

of worry. How many times you get up in the

middle of the night, and you worry. I know, I

been he plagued me last night. Worry this worry that

I know. But you know what, d Amen. When you

get up in the morning the sun shines, you begin

to pray. Heymen, everything looks different. Pray thank God. Amen.

You may be going through a time right now. I

want you to know, hey man, the Son's gonna shine

here again. Praise God. It's not always gonna be thirty

one above here. And they may might be called trees

of righteousness, the plain of the Lord, that he might

be glorified. Thank you, Father for your blessing and goodness.

We ask it all Jesus day. We pray. Man, you

may be seated. Thank God. Amen. I'll tell you what

a scripture that is, what a promise that is, heymen.

So that prophecy was there. Now we look off, we

bring ahead of maybe seven hundred and fifty years later,

and here we are in a synagogue. Amen. Jesus went

to the synagogue like everybody else, every other good Jew,

as his manner was. We look in at Luke chapter four,

verse sixteen, and he comes to Nazareth. That's where he

was brought up. Amen, he's been out preaching some they've

heard the works that he's done. I've heard things. And

now here he comes to his hometown. And he said,

the Bible says he came to Nazareth, where he had

been brought up. And his custom was he went into

the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up for

the rude. So there was read, and so that was

what he usually did. And so he stood up to read.

Now they in the synagogues a little bit. I've never

been in one, and I've never been to a service,

but they tell me that. You know, back in those days,

what they what they did is they, of course, I

had a ruler of the synagogue, and he would kind

of conduct the services, and someone could get up and

expound the law, different parts of the law and different

maybe they would someone would expound the psalms and different

marts like that. But then also you just get up

and read. You could do that as well.

Amen.

So I mean it was open for people to do that.

It was a little bit different than today. And so

so there he did. He stood up to read, obviously,

as of course they So here they come, Amen, And

there was delivered under him. The book of prop Isaiah.

So here comes the helper. He gives them the scroll

with the Book of Isaiah in it. Now Jesus knows

exactly where he's headed. Amen. He courses God in flesh,

so he knew exactly what was coming on. There's no

surprises with him. Now we get surprised, You and I

get surprised. Sometimes you ever been blindsided? Oh? Yeah, we

sometimes get. But I want you to know Christ never

is surprised. Amen, the person, the Amen, the God we follow,

the God we worship, the God that will take us

to heaven, is not surprised. So then he'd be able

to open the book. He found the place where he's written. Ah,

I don't think he had to look very long to

find it. No, And here's what he reads. He reads

his prophecy from Isaiah sixty one. The spirit of the

Lord has ubond me because he has annoyted me to

preach the gospel to the poor. Amen, isn't that wonderful? Amen?

To spa he sent. He has sent me to beheal

the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives. And

they were recovered to the side of the blind to

set at liberty. Them that are ruised to preach the

unacceptable year of the Lord. Now here he is. He

goes in there and all of a sudden, boom, he

stops right there. Oh he shuts it down. It's kind

of like when I went up. I don't know what

I was doing. Why I decided I take my horn

on board. Now next year, I'm not taking my horn.

Forget it. I'm not doing it. No, I'm just not

gonna do it. But I thought I do a little

karao could be fun. So finally when I figured out

how they did the thing, how they ran it, I

didn't know you had to sign it, don't know way

I anything idea. I got up there. So I played

this song His Eyes on the Sparrow with of course,

with a with a tape that I never heard before.

You know, because you don't know, I mean you can't

you can't bring your own was playing the horn kind of.

I hadn't had a chance to warm up because there's

no place to warm up. So I mean the horn

was kind of squeaking a little bit, and so it

wasn't going It was going okay, but but then I

was just about got to the end and everything shut

down now you remember that why I was up there

playing on the horn, good old me, you know, boom

and this stopped. Course, what can you do? You just

you're just done? What very much to it? And so that.

But Jesus he hidn't shut down. He knew exactly what

he was doing. Amen. And here again not look and

he closed the book. Now here's the thing about prophecy.

You know you already know that. I'm not telling you

probably anything you don't know. I almost felt, I mean,

I listen, if the Lord would have taken office praying

the Lord just take over? Have you away with earlier

this morning? Well yeah, just should tell you went ahead

and gun. I mean, you wouldn't have had been put

it with me now if you just And by the way,

it's good to see Chip today. He texted me yesterday

and I didn't have a chance to text him back.

And they come in this morning. Oh here I am

praise God. I'm glad he's here. Amen. But hey, look,

there's thousands of years between one phrase and another praising prophecy,

and we forget that. Sometimes we have a tendency and

put it all the time. Very from me. And you've

heard this before. For unto us, the child is born,

unto us, the son is given. All right, we's already

sung there and the government will be upon his soldiers. Now,

the government hasn't been on his shoulders now technically maybe

in heaven yet, but not here. Okay, we know, okay,

and we know that God still rules the earth in

this one sense of the word. But I mean, he

doesn't really have the government totally on his shoulders. Otherwise

we wouldn't have the mess we have in worship it. Okay,

So so we but there as thousands that has to happen. Yet,

there's thousands of years that are between one phrase and another,

and so we have to realize that that's the same

thing with this. There's thousands of years between the first

part and the second. But I'll tell you something, the

second part is coming. It's coming sooner than we think.

But the Bible said, he closed the book, and here's

the reaction though He gave him to again to the

minister to sit down, and we'll stop here just for

a minute, and then we'll go on. The odds of

them that were in the Son of Gods were faster on.

They all looked at him. He has all eyes were

on and he began to say, this day's the scriptures

for food in your ears. So he read that first

part of the scripture, and it was fulfilled, and all

bear witness, and we'll visit that scripture again real quick.

And he wondered at the gracious words that proceeded out

of his mouth. And they said, is not this Joseph's son.

He's just Joseph's son, right, I mean, I don't know

who you are. You just Joseph. You work at the

Park carpenter shop all your life, right, and you're just

a carpenter.

You know.

They did not realize familiar airity breeds content. Folks. We

can get so familiar with it, you know. That's what's

good about us going on a boat like that. I

enjoyed it. I'm like you enjoyed the music and everything.

And I enjoyed what was said and everything. But and

I know there are people out there that are seeking

God and the way they know what to do. They're

doing what they can do. They all they know. But amen.

But sometimes, you know, we get around, hoys, we're so

familiar with it, and we almost start content. We don't

realize how what we really have and how good holiness

really is. You get around there, and people are good,

but they don't have the level that we've got. We're

not better than them, but we have the depth that

they don't have. And we praised God. Hey man, we

gotta realize what we've been given. Amen. Well twenty three

and he said into them, you you surely saying to

me this pover physician healed myself or whatever we've had done.

And Capernaum do also here in that country, he said, barely,

I said, unto you with no profit, except in his

own country. Now, we read just briefly in March six five.

Let's look over there real quick, and we'll kind of

get an idea of what has happened. When he goes

into country the Bible said, he goes in there in

his own country, and the Bible says there that he

could do to heal, No, he'd do no mighty works

there say that he laid hands a few sick folk

and they and they healed them, but they couldn't heal

many people. White people don't get healed today because we

don't really believe, we really don't we and the pri

and I understand that fully well. I prayed for him

before and they didn't get healed. You know, you know

that and that. But here these people they didn't know

excuse but they well, he's a carbon. He's not gonna

be able to anything. He marveled, though the Bible said, because of

their unbelief. He went around about the villages teaching. Now

let's go back to Luke four twenty five. Amen, But

I tell you the truth. Many widows were in Israel

in the days of Elias, when the heavens were shut

up three years and six months, when great to famine

was throughout all the land. But none of them were

was Elias sent to them except a stopped up a

city of Sidon to a woman that was a widow.

That was a widow. And then he goes on says

another illustration. Many lepers were in Israel and the time

of elis the prophets, and none of them were clin

say naming the syrup. Now what he was basically saying,

there was a lot of Jews that needed help in

the days of Elijah, but there were none helped but

a gentile woman from an enemy nation, even where Jezebel

was from. And that's where she was from. She was

from Sidon, saymen, and but amen, and so said, Hey,

there was a lot of wheels that need help, but

you know what, this gentile widow needed help, and that's

where he went. Even the nation of Jezebel also there

was a lot of lepers there that need healing. But

you know what, the only one was healed was the

Naman who was actually a gentile. He was a general

from an enemy country. Amen. So the thing is they

were both from enemy countries. But both, even though they

were gentiles, they knew the voice of God. They had recognized, Amen,

who it was. We know the story of vice. For

his Damon had a little they had a little maid.

You know, I wish that he could see or the

master of the prophet and you know in Israel, and

I wish he could go over there and be healed,

because you know, that's so he went. But they said,

both reached out for them, while you Jews did not.

So often sometimes in America people get gospel hardened. Amen,

we don't realize what we have here. Heymen. We hear

it and we hear it, and we hear it and

we hear it and we hear it. Hey man. After

awhile goes in runner and out on my friend. We

got to realize that Jews had the law, they have everything,

they had the Son of God sitting right in their synagogue.

But all they can say, oh, this is just another carpenter.

This is nothing, and we can get in that danger. Heymen,

we can get heymen, this is a wonderful church. I mean,

I mean wonderful pastor. You got everything. But you know

what you can be, you can get after a wild

Oh it's just another thing. Oh it's just another service.

Oh it's just another shouting down. Oh it's just another thing.

Oh so well, you know, it's just kind of like,

you know, just kind of like food. You know, you

enjoy the food, you know, but after a while, Oh

it's just another steak. Oh it's just another whatever it is.

Ay Man. I'll tell you. We gotta be careful, aymen.

We don't take it for granted. We gotta be careful, Amen,

that we're not like the Jews, and take it, aymen,

it's just another carpenter. If you're in that condition, ridgst

your thinking, redgust your heart, amen, and pray here at

the end all day in the synagogue, what was their reaction, Well,

they didn't like it. They hurt him. These things were

filled with raft, and they rose up and thrust him

out of the city and let him on to the

brow of the hill where the city was built, that

they might cast him headlong. But of course he passed

through the crowds, mister them. And then what I've been told,

I've never been in Israel, and I may be corrected

on this, but I have read that where that city

was built is you could see about ten miles from

really the plane of the Megiddo where it's all going

to end and that, and you can actually see that

plane of a ghetto from where that city was. Now,

as I've just been told this and I've never been there,

but I'll tell you, the devil one to end it early.

They didn't get time, but that shows you he can't

do it. Amen. Now let's go back to the Obviasiah

sixty one three on. Hurry, the spear of the Lord

God is upon me, because this has already happened. He

has annoying me to preach the good tidings under the

weak meek. Amen, good titans, those people that will listen,

they will open their hearts to the gospel. That's what

that's the way he's looking for people that they're putting you.

I was with Sunny School, by the way. The Sunny

School lesson was wonderful, and he says, you know, the

way up to I think he said they up to

Heaven is down. Huh yeah, hum, I think I'm not.

I didn't say it quite right, but Amen, that's true. Amen.

He had Hey, well, there's a there's a story about

uh uh some some some monk or someone. Amen, want

to get closer to God. And so he got on

a flagpole somehow and got a chair up, way up high,

and he never could never could feel God. Someone will

come by and say, the problem is you're too high.

Get down a little. Amen. And he sent me to

heal the broken hearted people that are Amen. Think it's

all over. I I we people are killing themselves just

because they don't think there's any hope. Well, I'll tell

you what the Gospel gives hope. Amen, because you don't

think you have any hope. This morning, there is hope.

I promise you to proclaim liberty to the captives, those

that are in prison, amen, those by drugs, those are

imprisoned by by by you know, it could be anything,

the lust of the flesh, all this bye by alcohol,

those have been trapped, and and and sit situations, those

have been trapped. Amen, maybe maybe things have happened to you.

God can break that prison out, He can regret me

you out of prison. Praise God. This good just today,

just when he started, he started, but he when he left,

he let the holy ghost, and which is iministrated, and

it's the same thing could happen today as bid back then, Amen,

and then opening to the prison of them that are bound,

those that are bound in prison, and proclaim the next

eptal year of the Lord. I'm telling you it was.

Now he goes on and here it is the day

of the vengeance of our God. Now it's not happening yet,

but it will, Amen, it will happen. I'll fail you,

and I believe probably it will happen. First, first of all,

the back slid in church. Amen, we have did live

in a day and a time vengeance upon the ungly,

their constant rebellion. Amen. Constantly we live in a day

in a time. Because someone said, lad to sea you

that's right, rich, I'm increased with goods. Amen, have need

of nothing. Don't you know that you're poor, wretched, miserable, blinded,

nation naked. And that's the pragment we have to We

have to realize we are not and can I We

gotta resist that day lad to seeing spirit Amen, because

we are Amen, we are poor. We do need him. Amen. Amen,

We need that faith that's tried in the fire. Amen.

And that that right is not holiness with a white garment, heymen.

And the end then our eyes in order with us

sad that we might see. Amen. You're only thirty two

verse thirty five. We read and here's what Moses says

about Israel. But it still applies here to me. Belong

with vengeance and recompense. Their foot shall slide in due time,

for the day of their calamity is at hand, and

the things that shall come upon them make haste. He realize. Amen.

People that boast themselves or tomorrow, Amen, God's got their number. Amen.

He's gonna bring it all down. Amen. We see the

ungodly population, the proud Amen, because they're constant boasting how

they're gonna take the earth. They think they're gonna take

this earth. They say, they boast, they said, we've got

this we're gonna make it a one. But I'll tell

you Amen. Enoch wrote about him Amen, from June fourteen. Amen.

Enoch said, the seventh from Adam prophesied of these, and behold,

the Lord cometh with thousands of his saints, to execute

judgment upon all, and to have convinced all that are

ungodly among them on their ungodly deeds which they have

ungodly committed, and of all their heart speeches with ungodly

sinners has spoken. Do you realize, amen, Amen? Do you

understand amen, that that was written? Now? Amen? Do you

know that Enocha lived when he was born? I figured

that out this morning, if I'm not mistaken, six hundred

and something like six hundred and twenty years Amen, after

Adam was born, Amen, after the beginning of Adam, the creation.

So Adam was still alive. We're talking about DayMen. Way

back then Enoch regrected and he said, Hey, other days

coming now, Amen, the coults. What about the coults? Amen?

All these there are the billions of people are deceived

into Islam and Marbonism and Buddhism and all the other isms.

They're deceived. They've made Amen, and they work on hate,

vengeance upon them that walk in darkness, the dark regions

of the males, he cults. I mean, there's millions of

souls damned. John two twenty two. Who is a but

he is a liar. But he that denieth that Jesus

is a Christ, is da Christ that denieth the Father

and the Son. Amen? Yes, Amen, do you elisa? Amen? Amen,

when you say that the Father Jesus Christ is not

the Son of God, that's out of Christ. You don't

have to try spirits. When someone says he's rarely not

the Christ.

Amen.

I don't care how they look. I don't care what

they look like. Amen. When they say that Christ is

not true on Siah, they're anti Christ. Amen. They may

be nice, sweet people, they may be people a man

very humble acting. It doesn't matter. The devil knows how

to do that. Amen. He knows how he's a Amen.

He's like he canna ain't peer as an angel of light? Amen,

seeking ay man, he walks around. Heymen, there's a roaring

lione seeking He do who am me to liar? Heymen,

don't be fooled by that. Amen. We had holdless people

have a tends to be fooled. But people they look good,

and we like that. Amen, I want to break some people.

It's something call I don't you know. I just like

the homish. We love we. I don't know. You probably

don't have any around here, but we But you know,

the homage. We like that. Oldest people like the homage

because they, I mean, the women look good and the

men look good. The problem is they don't believe Jesus

Christ is reads said of God. And that's the problem.

But some of them get carried away with them, and

that's other people like that. If they don't believe Jesus

Christ is the son of God, I don't care how

they look. Amen, I read on. You know, we have

to realize the revelation twenty one eight. But the fearful

theyn't believe him. The Bible, and the murders, and all

hornmonckers and sorcerers and all our doctors and all liars

shall have their part in the lake was burth for

fire and brimstone. This is the second death. That is

continue real quick. We gotta wrap this up to comfort

all that mourn, aren't you glad? Amen? God is able

to comfort the mourners. Amen, He does Amen, I've preached.

I know, brother, how has done. I've preached lots of

funerals and h in our little b church. You wouldn't

think so, but I did. And I preached some that

committed suicide. And that was rough. Well can you say,

you can't get up there and say he's going to hell.

You can't do that with a family. You can't do it.

So you just gotta kind of buy you just gotta

encourage everyone to you know. But then I preach some

that were saved that hope. It was a whole different thing,

you know. But I mean that's the difference, you know.

And and but the people that mourn Amen, I think

you know, always said as well, as long as there's breath,

there's life, you know, as long as there's a breath,

there's hope. Amen. You know. And they there's people that

are left behind. You know, when you preach funeral, you

don't worry. You can't preach to the dead anymore. He's gone,

so his soul is already sealed. Whoever you go, Heaven

or hell. It's the people behind that you have to

considered about. Amen. And people that's even playing their funeral

saying oh look ye had realize it's not for you.

It's for the people that are behind you. Amen. They're

they're they're left behind to a point under them that

mourning Zion to give them them beauty for ashes, isn't

that wonderful? Amen? The oil of joy for morning we have.

That's why we have the Holy Ghost moving, Amen. The

garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they

might be called trees of righteousness, the plan of the Lord,

that he might be going for. I know there's a

lot more in there. I know that. Amen, there's a

lot more we could dig out of that, but we're

not gonna do it. But look, vengeance. Look, there's gonna

be vengeance upon the lost world. I mean, I don't care.

I know the world. They say we're gonna have a utopia,

forget it now. We know seven years the Antichrist is

gonna have especially full reign three and a half years.

We know that. And I don't know. I don't know

what you believe on the trib on the church, but

I kind of lean towards it going out earlier. But

if you believe going in the middle, well then let

me come with you. Then that's right. But we're going

to be out here one day. We got to be ready.

But I'll tell you there's gonna be there's coming vengeance

on this earth. It's coming, it really is. And all

these people, all these people, you know, they have no idea.

We see them, yeah, we see them. Even on the

cruise I saw some of I mean not everybody on

that cruise boat was saved. They just weren't. I know

they weren't. I can tell by watching them, you know.

But I don't mean to be judged. But you expect

some of the fruit, you know, you know. But and

they have no idea, no idea what's coming. They have

no idea. Isaiah thirty five, verse four. Say to them

that are of a fearful heart, be strong, fear not.

They don't be afraid. Now. I know it's easy for

me to stand up here in bard daylight say that.

But then what about two o'clock in the morning, three

o'clock in the morning. That's when the devil tries to

hit you. But you know what, don't be afraid. Don't

be afraid. There's not a fear. God has not given

us the spirit of fear, but the power of love

and sound mind. Don't be afraid. I know the devil

can hurt all kinds of things at you. I mean,

he did that for me last night. I mean, but

I mean you know why, because he knew I was

gonna be preaching day and he did. But that's all right,

I start praying. Look, don't be afraid, amen, be strong,

fear not, behold your God will come with vengeance. God

is coming with a vengeance. Now. Amen. I don't want

to see I don't want to see one person lost.

But amen, God is coming with a vengeance. Even with

God with a recompense. Will he come and say, Look,

he will come and save you. Now my question to you,

are you ready? Are you ready? Amen? Listen, It's not

gonna be like this all the time. Amen. I don't

know if there's any lost in here, but I have

an idea that in this crowd there's got to be somebody.
