Lord, all right, if you have your bibles with you,
-
will you turn with me to the Book of Saint
-
John May. I direct your attention to the twentieth chapter
-
and verses number one through eight. Brother Nathaniel Acts, Chapter
-
number fourteen, Verses number nineteen through twenty one. Brother Jesse
-
Firs Peter, Chapter number one and verses number three through five.
-
I want to say thank you to Brother Caleb for
-
delivering the Word of God unto us this past Sunday night.
-
It was truly a blessing to my soul. It's good
-
to see Sister Vicki Smith's granddaughter here today. Welcome, Praise
-
the Lord. Good morning everybody, half Easter. Aren't you thankful
-
for the hope of the Resurrection? Without it we have nothing?
-
Aren't you thankful for the hope of the Resurrection? Thank God?
-
Brother Nathaniel Acts, Chapter number fourteen, Verses number nineteen through
-
twenty one.
-
My brother, and.
-
There came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who
-
persuaded the people in having stone Paul drew him out
-
of the city, supposing he had been dead. Howbeit as
-
the disciples stood around about him, he rose up and
-
came into the city. And the next day he departed
-
with Barnabas to Derby. And when they had preached the
-
Gospel to that city and had taught many, they returned
-
again to Listra, into Iconium, and to Antioch. Amen, Brother
-
Jesse one Peter, chapter number one, verses number three through five,
-
My brother.
-
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
-
which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again
-
unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
-
from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled. And
-
that fateth not a way reserved in heaven for you,
-
who are kept by the Great by the power of
-
God through faith, unto salvation, ready to be revealed in
-
the last time.
-
Praise the Lord.
-
May we stand for the reading of our golden text,
-
Saint John's Gospel, the twentieth chapter reading verses number one
-
through eight. The Bible says, the first day of the week,
-
cometh Mary Magdalene, early when it was yet darkened, to
-
the suffulcher, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulcher.
-
Then she runneth and cometh to Simon Peter, and to
-
the other disciple, whom Jesus loved and saith unto them,
-
they have taken away the Lord out of the suppulcher,
-
and we know not where they have laid him. And
-
Peter therefore went forth and that other disciple and came
-
to the suppulcher. So they ran both together. And the
-
other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the suffulcher.
-
And he's stooping down and looking in, saw the light
-
linen claus lie.
-
Yet went he not in.
-
Then come as simoth Peter following him, and went into
-
the suffucher, and seeth the linen class lie, and the
-
napkin that was about his head, not lying with the
-
linen claus but wrapped together in a place by itself.
-
Then went in also that other disciple, which came first
-
to a suffulcher, and he.
-
Saw and believe.
-
May we pray, Heavenly Father, we love him, We praise you,
-
We thank you for the opportunity to be in your
-
house today. We pray God that you would help this
-
thy people set a guard at their years and help
-
them to hear what the Spirit of God says unto
-
the church, not of my words.
-
But of your words.
-
I pray that you would annoyt this, thy servant said
-
a guard at my mouth, and help me to say
-
the things that you would have me to say. Help
-
the messenger to deliver the message, I prayed God, without hindrance.
-
May these say and saturate the oh and the spirit.
-
May that go below the shoulders, and may we be hearers,
-
and may we heed, and may we debarked this place
-
joyfully and not sorrowfully. In Jesus's name in the church
-
said Hey, man, as you're being seated, let's look again
-
at John chapter number twenty and verse number three. That
-
will be our golden text this morning. Peter therefore went
-
forth and that other disciple and came to the suffulcher.
-
What a day it must have been when Mary Magdalene
-
came to Peter and John with wonderful news. Her words
-
were both comforting and encouraging. The tomb of Joseph of
-
Arimathea is empty. The body of Christ is inside. He's gone,
-
and the napkin is folded and lying there neatly. Something
-
wonderful had happened. He is gone because he got up.
-
He's not there.
-
He got up, And I want to preach a message
-
the Holy Ghost titled he got up, so should you.
-
And in our golden text you'll notice there in verse
-
number three that Peter therefore went forth and the other
-
disciple and came to the suffolker.
-
So they had to have gotten up.
-
I believe there was something worth getting up for some
-
of you this morning. May I had a hard time
-
getting up. But because these services have been saturated with
-
the sweet presence of the Lord, you can say they
-
were worth getting up. For. There's no doubt the apostles
-
Peter and John never were to forget that moment. It
-
was an unforgettable moment for each one involved that day,
-
including Mary Magdalene. In this particular gospel, the Gospel of John,
-
the author is John himself, and in this gospel he
-
refers to himself as that other disciple. In John chapter
-
number two and verse number three our Golden text, you
-
will find the name Peter, and then a mention of
-
another disciple, and both of these men ventured into the suffucker.
-
The Bible says when Peter and John heard the salutation
-
of the great News from Mary Magdalene, they got up
-
if they were sitting down and hurriedly made their way
-
to an empty tomb, and this was wonderful news to
-
both disciples, Peter and John, as well as the other
-
disciples and Sister Hannah Howell Edwards. John may have held
-
back on the praises of himself, referring to himself as
-
that other disciple, but he was sure to record that
-
he outran Peter. He wrote these words in verse number four.
-
So they ran both together, and the other disciple did
-
outrun Peter and came first to the suffolcher. The near future,
-
brother Nathaniel and I will help conduct a crusade in
-
the Caribbean. I do not know who will arrive first,
-
probably Brother Nathaniel because he is younger. And what I
-
mean by that is we will travel both together. But
-
I suspect that Brother Nathaniel will arrive at the point
-
of our lodging first, meaning when we get up out
-
of that rented vehicle and we make our way towards
-
the place of our lodging, I'm sure he will be
-
a few steps ahead of me. A lot of people
-
suppose that one of the reasons why John was able
-
to outrun Peter is because John was younger. Others have
-
surmise that Peter carried upon himself a lot of guilt
-
and shame and was feeling very burdensome because of himself
-
disappointing the Lord. I don't know the reason for why
-
John was able to outrun Peter, but John was sure
-
to note this here in his gospel. And I know
-
that my efforts would be futile to attempt to outrun
-
brother Nathaniel.
-
And the reason for that being is I am now older.
-
You will remember the Psarma said, I have been young
-
and now old. I've not seen the righteous forsaken, nor
-
his seed begging bread. But if we could hit the
-
rewind but no life, I could take you back to
-
a time when possibly I could have gave Brother Nathaniel
-
a run for his money, or we would have ran
-
neck and neck. My point being, I don't know who's
-
gonna run faster than who this morning, and I don't
-
know who's gonna arrive at this altar first, But it
-
doesn't matter, as long as we run together. I have
-
a natural brother who says often that he has never
-
won a foot race. There's something about the muscle in
-
his legs. He is unable to run fast. I witnessed
-
as one that was always the fastest in the school,
-
or the fastest in the class, or one of the
-
fastest on the team. I witnessed my brother try to
-
run with us and many others, and for some reason
-
he just did not have it within him to run
-
a race. And I know that there's some people in
-
this building this morning that you feel like you just
-
do not have it within you to get up. And
-
if you're ever gonna run a race and finish that race,
-
you're gonna have to get up. It's gonna have to
-
be some things that you do, and you have to
-
run together with that natural brother and sister, or you
-
have to run together with that brother and sister in Christ.
-
Those people have like precious faith, Brother Nathaniel. I feel
-
like there's a lot of people exhausted and tired because
-
of the weight of their sins. The Bible said that
-
you should lay aside every weight and sin that does
-
so easily beset you. I understand when you're carrying a
-
lot of weight, you not wanting to get up. Brother
-
Dylan Wallace was sharing with me recently of how he
-
spent some groll, some toils, some hours training under the
-
oversight of an army ranger, and he said, Pastor, because
-
of who we were training underneath of he decided to
-
shorten the process of our training. He said, in other words,
-
he crammed everything into a shorter period of time.
-
Which put more on us.
-
And I trained under some of the fine of sergeants
-
and instructors in the land, and I believe that he said,
-
they were just conditioning us for what is coming, what
-
is forthcoming. I know there's some people in this building
-
this morning that just do not fill getting up, but
-
you have to get up. You didn't feel like getting
-
up for work this past Monday morning, but you got up.
-
There's a lot of us in this building. We've got
-
to get up from whatever it is that has got
-
us down. There's no doubt these apostles, these disciples and
-
followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, they were definitely very
-
exhausted over the events that had taken place. You find
-
the account of those two people that were on the
-
road to Amasus how terribly disappointed they were in the
-
outcome concerning the events of that weekend. They didn't really
-
feel like Jesus would be crucified, buried and left for dead,
-
and they were so disappointed in the outcome that Jesus
-
had not yet been resurrected or brought back to life,
-
And so they were returning home just totally completely distraught.
-
And I have no doubt that Peter and John had
-
to overcome those sentiments and those similar feelings when they
-
got up and went to see is it true what
-
Mary Magdalene has said? Is there a possibility of a resurrection?
-
Is there a possibility of a new life? Is there
-
a possibility of a new beginning? Oh, thank God, there
-
is a possibility in a new life today for every
-
person in this building, including those that have been raised
-
in pentecostam and Holiness churches, who this morning are just
-
barely continuing on for whatever reason. So Brother Nathaniel and
-
I will hold that crusade down there in the Caribbean.
-
And Brother Nathaniel, you know as good as I do.
-
It is not a planned vacation, and we don't exactly.
-
Feel like going down there.
-
Were exhausted and we're tied, But we're going down there
-
because people need something real. We're going down there because
-
they need something alive. Many down there are tired of
-
their dead religion. Many down there are disgusted with their
-
dry routines. There's been a lot of you show up
-
here on our doorsteps, so to speaking, when given an
-
opportunity to testify, you say, I am here at the
-
Bethel Holiness Church because I got tired of a dead religion.
-
I got tired of a dry routine.
-
You see, those folks in the Caribbean will be looking
-
for the words of the Master. They will not be
-
looking for the words of Brother Jeremy Howell or Brother
-
Nathaniel Howell. They will be looking for words of spirit
-
and words of life, and those are the words of God.
-
Brother Nathaniel will get up early someday.
-
In the near future, and he will make his way there.
-
But at some point of those who were down there
-
will have found themselves sitting in the presence of somebody
-
that got up and brought the Gospel light to them.
-
The same thing could be said of the Father's son Jesus,
-
who was sitting at the right hand of the Father.
-
When the Triune God had beheld the condition of man,
-
Jesus got up and walked down that grand staircase that
-
led from heaven down to lowly Earth.
-
And sister, how well.
-
He walked among those that were sitting in darkness, Men
-
who were sitting in darkness witness to a great light.
-
And there are people perhaps in this building this morning
-
who were sitting in darkness. And but I want you
-
to do like we hope those in the Caribbean will do.
-
I want you to get up and get away from
-
darkness and death. Brother Jesse, we expect people to get up,
-
and we want to see them back up on their
-
feet again. We desire the same for every person here today.
-
But you have to be willing enough to get up.
-
When Jesus brought back the man who was impotent in
-
his legs and feet and his strength, Jesus spoke to
-
him that he had to get up. He had to
-
roll up that man or that cotton and be on
-
his way again. I'm preaching a message the Holy Girl's
-
title that he.
-
Got up, and so should you.
-
I feel like every preacher and teacher of the Bethel
-
Holiness Church today would desire to see every person walk out.
-
Of this building with a smile on their face and
-
without a doubt.
-
We expect some to leave this morning with their burdens
-
who rolled away. We expect some to not to testify
-
and say I am forever change But those things will
-
only take place if those who are down get up,
-
and then they can stand again, and again they can run.
-
Peter and John got up.
-
Before they stood up, and before they ran to the
-
empty tomb, they got up. And when they arrived at
-
the empty tomb, they noticed that Jesus Christ himself had
-
got up. Even though it was early in the morning,
-
the stone.
-
Was rolled away. Who is as wide open up as.
-
The pool behind camper of the Red Neck and the
-
Appellachian Mountains? How many of you have ever been an
-
eyewitness to that. You can be taken a drive through
-
the mountains in some rural area and you look at
-
those single wire trailers or those pool behind campers, and
-
you wonder, how, oh how did they get that up there?
-
And old how or how.
-
Are they gonna get that down from there when it
-
comes time to replace it? But almost always the door
-
is wide open. And I want to tell somebody today
-
the same thing can be said about every spiritual door
-
in the House of God. While you have breast, and
-
while the church is being the church, while services are
-
being conducted, and while the altar is open, the every
-
spiritual door is open again. Peter and John they saw
-
that the stone wall had been rolled away. You say, well,
-
I'm up against something that's keeping me from exiting my grave. Listen,
-
I don't know what to buried you. I don't know
-
the name of your grave. That I know that God
-
can roll away the stone if you will get up,
-
if you will knock on the door, so to speaker Jesus,
-
Christ will open the door and he will let you out.
-
But you've got to get up half of that cold
-
stone coughing. You've got a walk to that stone, cold,
-
and you've gotta beat your knuckles red until he here's you.
-
He schedules your release.
-
Can I tell you that in a moment that you
-
sincerely cry out through godly sorrow and true great repentance,
-
he will open the door. I'm telling you what hinders
-
you is not something in the church. It's not a
-
certain preacher. It's not a certain teacher. It's not the
-
pastor Hope. Come on now, I'll say it again. Every
-
spiritual door that you need to walk through, he says,
-
wide open. There as the pool behind camper there on
-
the Appalachian ridd Next camper, come on there. The lords
-
By's not gonna be found inside of that tombor, and my.
-
Prairies today that your lie, lifeless, cold body will not
-
be found in your tomb. Jesus was not going to
-
allow it to be called the tomb of Jesus.
-
It's still called to this day the.
-
Tomb of Joseph of Arimathea.
-
And that does not have to be the place of
-
your death.
-
That does not have.
-
To be the place from your demise. All you gotta
-
do is get up and say, I.
-
Shall not dissolve away here. I will get up out
-
of this place of destruction.
-
I will get out of this house her death.
-
It appeared to many that death had secured the earthly
-
body of Jesus. Surely the messages, including the Romans and
-
the Jews, taught that the grave held him firmly. But
-
you know what, Hell knew better. Lucifer knew better. They
-
knew that Jesus wasn't finished. Last year, I felt impressed
-
to the Lord to preach an Easter sermon titled Underestimating
-
what is Underneath. And you know what Jesus did on
-
what a lot of people called Silent Sunday. He didn't
-
lay there in that tomb motionless. Brother Nathaniel, I dare say,
-
as soon as natural breath left his earthly body, he
-
went down into the lowest regions of the damned and
-
knocked on the door of death, hell and the grave,
-
and said, turn over the keys. You will no longer
-
have control over people's time of death. You will never
-
no longer have control over how long you hold somebody.
-
I am the one that will hold the keys, and
-
I want you to know he held the keys. But
-
even concerning his natural death, on that third day, I said,
-
on that third day, possibly April fifth, he got up.
-
I said, on that third day, he got up with
-
the keys the death.
-
Held in the grave.
-
Sister Sheryl and Sister Simmons and heaven now and then
-
we may need to help you too get up at times.
-
But Jesus did not need any assistance getting up. He
-
wasn't elderly, he wasn't aged, He wasn't barely alive in
-
spite of the severe beatings. Brother Aaron Wood preached to
-
us about this past Sunday night.
-
But he was very much alive.
-
I said, he was very much alive because he got
-
up in power. Oh, come on him more eloquent terms.
-
He was resurrected in power, and he stood up and
-
he walked out. Everything changed for the world in that moment.
-
Without the resurrection, we have no hope.
-
The preaching and every effort is futile without the resurrection.
-
The same thing that hyphen Jesus takes place in the
-
life of a person who surrenders to his pool, who
-
convicts themselves, and who allows God to convict them. Those
-
who are dead come to life in a moment. It's
-
called the resurrection of the spiritual man. But all you've
-
got to do is when you are supposed to be
-
his sheep, and you hear the call of the shepherd,
-
get up and come home. That's what the prodigals son
-
heard when it came to himself and was get up
-
and come home.
-
It ain't you waiting on the pastor.
-
It's not you waiting on the church, and it's not
-
you waiting on their teacher. It's not your prodigal son
-
waiting on the father. It's the Father waiting on you.
-
Somebody packed that altar right there for me, that precious altar.
-
I said, that glorious altar where resurrection power takes place.
-
Let people pass her from dasl right to life. You
-
gotta wanna live. You gotta wanna get out of the.
-
Talents of who death. You gotta want to get up.
-
Do you really want to get well? Do you really
-
want to be back on your feet again? Do you
-
really want to change? David said, he lit me up
-
and out horrible pit. How the myray Clay brother Jesse,
-
I believe old David was one when he found himself
-
in the muck and the mire. He was calling on God,
-
get me out. And you know what, God never had
-
to tell David get up to get out. I feel
-
like the same thing could be said about Jeremiah, weeping
-
prophet while he was down there in that pit.
-
I believe he was standing up.
-
I don't believe he was laying there in the muck
-
of the mirror giving up and gonna die. There may
-
have been some other bones in the bottom of that pit,
-
but that weeping preacher was probably crying on the God,
-
not crying for deliverance from man, but crying to God
-
for deliverance. And some tender hearted, compassionate soul said, we
-
can't leave him in there, because if we do, he
-
will die. And they took some old rags and they
-
lowered him down there, said put them under those little
-
fragile arms. Prophet Jeremiah has been weeping and praying, you're
-
so hungry, you're so fragile, you are so bruised and
-
battered and beaten, and will lift you up and out.
-
Brother Nathaniel, they'd have never got him out if he
-
hadn't a got up and put them rags underneath his armpits.
-
And I'm preaching us somebody here this morning. You gotta
-
get up and make the walk. Even Jason Crab knows that.
-
I've heard Jason Crab sing a song about taking the walk.
-
I've heard people sing songs about whenever you take the
-
first step of God will.
-
Carry you the rest of the way to the altar.
-
It was this past Wednesday night while preaching that message
-
I heard something hit the altar, and I realized a
-
young man who has been receiving words from his daddy,
-
a young man who had been talked to by his pastor,
-
a young man who in order in the church have
-
been praying for he plowed into this end of the altar,
-
and he left tear drops, and and there's tear stains
-
on the altar today from this young man coming to
-
the altar.
-
I will say this. If you are not knocking up.
-
On the door of your prison, if you're not up
-
rattling the bars of your cage, you're never gonna get out.
-
You've got to get up to get out.
-
I'm preaching this morning ascerning the Holy Ghost title. He
-
got up, so should you. I said, he got up,
-
and so should you. Marry Magdalene witness to the fact
-
that he got up and he got out. And I'm
-
telling you before you get out, you've got.
-
To get up.
-
All you need to do is get up. Some of
-
you drive an hour to this church. I didn't ask
-
you to come here. You do it of your own.
-
I'm choosing. I'm thrilled to have you here.
-
Sister Howl and I drove for six years two hours
-
each way, a four hour drive on Wednesday to church,
-
so a lot of times in the early days for
-
an hour long church service before we learn to get
-
up and get in. And Brother Jesse, every time we
-
went to church it was five hours of our day.
-
And Brother Nathaniel, when you and I traveled down there
-
to the Caribbean, we caught Caribbean.
-
They caught Caribbean.
-
When we traveled down there to minister in that crusade
-
with three of our Caribbean brothers. Oh, come on now,
-
us five preachers making our way to that little, little,
-
tiny primitive island. Brother Jesse, We're gonna have a burden.
-
We're gonna have a burden. We're gonna have a mission.
-
We're gonna walk into some dark situations. Literally, we're gonna
-
walk into some places shine in the gospel light. We're
-
gonna walk into some places delivering our soul. But how
-
them people don't get up, if they don't get out
-
of them pews, if they don't get out of them
-
folding chairs, if they don't get up and worship God.
-
Come on, now, I'm telling you we got to do something.
-
It's not the pastor that's the problem. It's not the
-
teacher that's the problem. It's not mom and dad that's
-
the problem. We got to get out. Come on, somebody's
-
gotta get out. In order to do that, you have
-
to get up. So Brother Nathaniel and I will try
-
our best to encourage people to get up. You're having
-
this crusade for a reason. You are hungry for a reason.
-
You have an appetite and increased desire for a reason.
-
There's something to go, something to be said about that,
-
there's something to get up for. And Brother Philip, I
-
don't understand how the table can be spread. Again, I
-
don't understand how the table can be spread and people
-
won't get up and go to the table.
-
Y'all seen it before.
-
Again, we drove two hours to the service, and we
-
had to get up and get ready. I remember, with
-
six little kids as to how would tell me it
-
would take two hours to get them kids ready. She
-
had to get started not long after lunch to get
-
here on time, and a lot of times we got
-
here thirty minutes to.
-
An hour early.
-
Brother Nathan, you and I will get up probably around
-
four o'clock in the morning, and we will travel from
-
about five am until five pm, including using an aircraft
-
in order to get to where we're going, Sister Wood.
-
And it's not gonna just happen. We've got to get up.
-
We gotta go out the doors of our respective places,
-
and we got to sit in that airplane terminal and
-
at the gate there. Then we gotta get up, and
-
we gotta walk into that pilot's aircraft and sit down.
-
And then whenever he says it's time to disembark. We
-
gotta get up, and we gotta get out, and we've
-
got to go down tarmac in that third world country
-
with that look in each other's eyes, looking at one another,
-
wondering will we ever make it home again? Will we
-
make it back safely? Because in this situation, it could
-
be that we don't make it home. It's very moving
-
and very unnerving. But we will rely totally on the Lord.
-
But we will never get to those people if we
-
don't get up, and you will never get to this
-
altar if you don't get up. And the Bible said
-
of Peter and John, they got up, and you know what, brother,
-
they must have stood up. And then after standing there,
-
they ran to the tomb. And that's what I remember
-
people doing years ago, when holy ghost conviction would come
-
into place, they would stand up. And that was good
-
that they got up, and then they had to run.
-
And the Bible said that Peter and John, when they
-
got there, they got to looking for I'm one, I said.
-
When they got there, they got to looking for someone.
-
I'm not looking for an apology from somebody. I'm not
-
looking for somebody to pat me on the back.
-
I'm not looking for affirmation.
-
Approval or applause when it's time.
-
For me to repent, nor should you.
-
I remember when I got saved nearly thirty four years ago.
-
It didn't matter who was preaching. It didn't matter who
-
was teaching. I don't remember what songs were sung. I
-
don't remember what the pastor preacher. I don't remember what
-
the evangelist said. All I remember was Jeremy Howell needed
-
to go to the altar, and Jeremy Howell needed to
-
get things right in my old life. I need to
-
pass from death into life. And if you're gonna do
-
that as well, you've got to get up. The same
-
power that raised him from the dead can bring you
-
into newness of life. Every person in this building can
-
be brought to newness of life. The songwriter pen these lyrics,
-
get Up, Get Up, Get Up, in Jesus's name. In
-
the Book of Ephesians, Paul said, you were dead, that's
-
past feeling. If you would, that's past hope when you're dead.
-
That's what I said. But because of Jesus, there is
-
no hopeless case, there's no hopeless calls, there's no hopeless situation.
-
Sister Hammon. In Ephesians, Paul said you were dead. That's
-
past weakness, Sister Simmons, You and Sister Cheryl can tell
-
us that it's past struggling, Sister whot And I've seen
-
you and Sister Neely here lately struggling a little bit
-
to get on your two legs because of those knees.
-
You get some age. I know, in the middle of
-
the night after preaching twice on Sunday, I'm a feeling
-
a little bit of that. I thought I would never
-
feel the things that I've been feeling. You wonder what
-
exactly is gone on sometimes. But the Apostle Paul told
-
the Church of Ephesus.
-
He said, you were dead. You were dead.
-
Your past weakness is beyond struggling. And as I preached recently,
-
dead as a door nail. To use of the words
-
of Charles Dickens, Paul had experienced the resurrection power. Though
-
he that had been buried alive physically and left for dead,
-
knew the resurrection power of the Lord. In Acts chapter
-
number fourteen, in verse number twenty, he said, how be it?
-
As the disciples stood round about the Apostle Paul, he
-
rose up and came into the city. As those disciples
-
looked home, after that great man of God had been
-
buried alive and stone to death, he rose up. Do
-
I need to say it again? He got up? He
-
rose up, He got up, and he came into the city. He,
-
like us, had to take some hits. He, like us,
-
he had been crushed. He, like us, sister haw had
-
been left for dead. Somebody, get the mental imagery here.
-
Picture him lying there, lifeless. That is a horrible image,
-
is it not? The great Apostle Paul, who wanted to
-
do nothing but good and carried the burden of the
-
church upon his shoulders, lying there dead. Imagine the mourners
-
that are standing around. Imagine those that are hoping that
-
he would get up. But people are saying, there's no use.
-
The stones they stoned him with that are too big
-
for him to live through. And you know what, get
-
this mental imagery. Though he got up. Get that mental imagery.
-
He got up.
-
Get that picture in your mind. Picture him getting up.
-
They thought he was dead, but he wasn't. I wonder
-
if Apostle Paul, being the man that he was, did
-
not say to some of his brethren, you tolt, I
-
was dead, didn't you?
-
And they said I sure didn't.
-
He said you thought wrong, And I hope I can
-
say the same thing about you. I hope when you testify,
-
you can say, I bet you was.
-
I was dead. I was buried home, but thank God,
-
I'm alive. I did not die.
-
Back to the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, they thought
-
Jesus was dead, but he was not, I said. They
-
thought Jesus was dead, but he was not. Some left
-
Paul underneath the pile of stone. Some left Jesus behind
-
the stone door. But both men got up. Both men
-
rose up. Paul knew about the resurrection power. He belonged
-
to the Pharisees. It's hard for me to imagine that
-
there were Jewish people who did not believe in the resurrection.
-
It's hard for me to imagine at.
-
The Pharisees would try to convince the Sadducees at the
-
resurrection power that showed up in the days of Elijah
-
and Elisha was real. It's hard for me to imagine
-
there would be disputations amongst the Sanhedrin as the weather
-
or not there's a resurrection. But Paul went into this
-
thing a Pharisee converted to a Christian, and sister howell.
-
He always believed in the resurrection power. And if you're
-
gonna make it, you can't be sad. You see, you
-
have to believe in the resurrection power of the Lord.
-
How did somebody question the many notable miracles of men
-
like Elijah and Elisha, But the Sadducees did.
-
But God steal raises people up. Sin.
-
We'll try to bury you, but you don't have to
-
stay buried. If Jesus hadn't got up, I could offer
-
you no hope of resurrection. But Jesus got up. Nothing
-
can hold you down. I'm asking you this morning, will
-
you let Jesus lift you up? Will you allow Jesus
-
to hold you up? And will you allow Jesus to
-
help you walk away? To walk away from that sin nature,
-
to walk away from the struggle, to walk away from
-
the weakness, Brother Caleb, the Sadducees were okay with taking
-
away the hope of the resurrection. I'm not okay with that,
-
because if in this life only I have hope, I
-
am of all men most miserable. If I can't hope
-
to see sister Charity on the other side, I'm in trouble.
-
If I can't hope to see beautiful Bethel.
-
They say, there's about eighty of you here today.
-
If I can't hope to see you beyond the casket,
-
I am of all men most miserable if I can't
-
hope to see Jephtha one day, my grandson. That's in
-
the presence of the Lord. There is blessed hope in
-
the resurrection. And you know what that old Pentecostal singer
-
used to sing it years ago, Hold that great getting
-
up morning.
-
Fare you well, fare you well.
-
My mother in law and some of my wife's siblings
-
got into debate about cremations versus burials, and my mother
-
in law being a Bible scholar that she is. And
-
I say that would have small on my face, and
-
I love you, Laverne. If you're listening, she said, well,
-
bless the Lord. She said, My God's big enough to
-
find some ashes as across the field. If he can
-
locate my ball six feet under, she said, started speaking
-
in her language. She said, it don't matter what you
-
do with me, Shane. She said, my Jesus can put
-
it all back together in a moment, and that's what
-
resurrection power says.
-
In a moment, we shall be changed.
-
In the twinkling of an eye. If I was called ely,
-
this is where I end on a high note. All
-
that great getting up morning. There you will, there you will.
-
They face the dead towards the Eastern sky. Did y'all
-
know that Christians face the dead towards the Eastern sky?
-
We have undertakers in this building today. We have former
-
undertakers in this building today, and they have told me
-
they still do that for the most part, because they're
-
expected resurrection power to happen on Resurrection Morning, when the
-
archangel sauns that trumpet, and the dead and Christ shall
-
rise resurrection power. I wonder if the quartet could come
-
up here and get ready to sing that, then you'll
-
know he's living inside resurrection power. Let's stand, sister whooting
-
in the old red backed Church of God hymnal. There's
-
a lyrical line that goes like this, graves of bursting saints,
-
of shouting hav any beauty all around.
-
I don't have a new body.
-
I'm glad that I don't have to experience resurrection power
-
only in the afterlife. I'm glad I can expect it
-
and embrace it in this life. There's something this and
-
right now that needs to meet me in the altar.
-
There's some in this building that needs to realize he
-
got up, and so should you. I give it to you.
-
We feel like we're buried alive at times. I give
-
that to you. And I also know we feel like
-
we're crushed. We feel like we're battered, we feel like
-
we're broken, we feel like we're wounded. But I want
-
you to know Jesus has resurrection power. But when Lazarus
-
was lying in a tomb, Jesus came to see him,
-
and Jesus delayed because he wanted to prove himself as
-
the resurrection. Even though Lazarus's sister said, it's the fourth day.
-
By now, his carcass is rotten. It's thinking the blowflies
-
are there. In my first an opinion.
-
That was not so.
-
I believe resurrection power had preserved him, and I believe
-
he's asleep. Like Jesus said, plainly, he's dead, just like
-
your loved ones, just like Jean Wooton plainly stated, he's dead.
-
Sister Hammond plainly stated, he's dead, but we know they sleep.
-
I can take you to ol of A cemetery. I
-
can show you the burial side. Of my grandson. There
-
he sleeps plainly stated he's dead. And because of the
-
hardness of their heart and their unbelief, Jesus wept and
-
cried out of frustration and righteous anger that they didn't believe.
-
He had to power and he would do this so
-
that they would believe is the resurrection. And he called
-
into that Tombe, this is what I want you to know.
-
He said, take you away the stone. He didn't say
-
go in there and pick him up. He didn't say
-
go in there and dragging him out lay before me,
-
Brother Aaron Wood, in the mouth of an empty tube.
-
He said, Lazarus, come forth, and sister Howell. This means
-
he got up, and the Bible said, even though he's
-
wrapped in grave clothes, he came bounding.
-
About right.
-
Brother Aaron Wood said maybe he had to get up
-
to her three times. Of course, you can't lose yourself.
-
That's why Jesus said, loose him and let him go. Now,
-
there was no sadducy that could tell a Pharisee the
-
resurrection can't happen, And there was no sadduacy that could
-
tell last Rous and Mary and Martha that there's no
-
such thing as a resurrection, and I want to open
-
these altars right now as they begin to sing, sing
-
that course, if you knew him like I know him,
-
I remember thirty four years ago, passer from death unto life.
-
I remember meeting the Resurrection himself outside of my tomb.
-
The altars open as there a young person, maybe somebody
-
five years of age, six years, maybe a teenager or
-
maybe a young adult, say preacher, I'm supposed to be alive,
-
but I.
-
Just don't feel like I was alive that I should be.
-
Anybody you need resurrection power in your life this morning?
-
Come on, hey man, anybody, let's bow our heads and pray.
-
Is there somebody Apostle Paul needed resurrection power.
-
I don't know what you're up against.
-
I don't know what you're facing. I don't know what's
-
got you there. Even the best Christians sometimes feel like
-
they've been buried alive. There's some getting in the altars
-
that are there? Any others you.
-
Experience resurrection power? You'll never feel dead again. You'll never
-
feel dead again. Prost is there one?
-
I want Methaholder's church to remember this message was preach.
-
When somebody tells you it's hopeless, I want you to
-
remember this message with Prince.
-
When somebody tells you that we didn't love them, I
-
want you.
-
To remember this message was preached when somebody tells.
-
You we didn't reach for them.
-
There's something special about coming out of the tents, taking
-
that walk.
-
Lazarus had to take the walk inside, Yes, singing my brothers.
-
He used the resurrection, the resurrection. He got up
