Youth with a Heart for God - John Miller

Christian Greece to each one, in the name of Jesus. Again, we're

thankful for the privilege of being here. I was glad when they said,

unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord. Is there

anybody here that would volunteer to translate from Spanish English? You may raise your

hand, all right, I'll preach in the foreign language. Troy, to

preach in the foreign language said to people in the United States. Talk for

those of you that weren't here last night. Like was said on one of

the many John Millers, something was mentioned, who was it, Darren?

Was it you about when you were younger? You looked up to the older

men and you know, kind of looked at them as growing up, And

yeah, I can relate to that. People still ask me where I grew

up? Why tell him I'm still in the process. I don't claim to

have arrived at all. I used to look at these old preacher men,

and you know, I thought they were Wow, they were so mature and

so wise. And no, sometimes I wonder what happened with all that maturity.

I guess I'm supposed to be mature. I'm not an old man yet,

I'm a little older might be the oldest one here. I'm not real

sure. I guess I'll just tell you how my oldest son is. Then

you can figure the rest out Modus Son's fifty. So already open your bibles

with me to Acts chapter thirteen for a text, Acts chapter thirteen. Here's

where I get my text from, on youth having a heart for God,

Acts chapter thirteen, in verse twenty two, the latter part of the verse.

Acts chapter thirteen, the latter part of verse twenty two. I have

found David, the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart,

which shall fulfill all my will. Okay, here we have God testifying of

David, saying that he had a heart after the heart of God. And

I would I would like to know why God testified that of David, saying

that he was a man that had a heart after the heart of God.

I think we we can find the answer in God's word. Most of these,

you know, questions that come up like this, The Bible usually uh

gives the answer to it, and we want to see if we can we

can find that answer, at least at least a partial answer. I think

we can. The Word of God has it in here. This morning I'm

also concerned whether God could testify of us, whether God could testify of you

and me this morning that we are a people that have a heart after God's

heart? Could God say that of us? Okay, trying to find an

answer to that question, open your bibles with me to First Samuel chapter seventeen.

First Samuel chapter seventeen. I think we can find some answers to that

question. I would like to read the whole chapter if you allow me to.

It has fifty eight verses, and I'm not real good at reading English,

but we shall try. First Samuel chapter seventeen, starting with verse one.

Now, the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered

together at Shoka, which belonged to Judah, and pitched between Choka and Azeka

off the mean, something like that. And Saul and the men of Israel

were gathered together and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle

in array against the Philistines. And if Philistines stood on a mountain on one

side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side, and there

was a valley between them, and there went out a champion out of the

camp of the Philistines named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and

his span, and he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and

he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat

was five thousand chekels of brass. And he had greaves of brass upon his

legs, and a target target of brass between his shoulders, and a staff

of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his spear's head weighed six

hundred chekels of iron, and one bearing a shield went before him. And

he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them,

why are ye come out to set your battle in array? Am not I?

If Philistine and ye the servants to Saul, choose you a man for

you, and let him come down to me. If he be able to

fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But

if I prevail against him and kill him, then ye shall be our servants

and serve us. And the Philistine said, I defy the army is of

Israel this day. Give me a man that we may fight together. When

Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and

greatly afraid. Now, David was the son of the Fhite of Bethlehem Judah,

whose name was Jesse, and he had eight sons. And the man

went among the men for an old man in the days of Saul. And

the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle. And

the names of the three sons that went to the battle where Eliab the firstborn,

the next unto him have been a Dab, and the third Shama,

And David was the youngest, and the three eldest followed Saul. But David

went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem. And the

Philistine drew near morning and evening and presented himself forty notice that, and Jesse

said, unto David his son, take now thy thy brother, and ethel

of this parched corn and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to

thy brethren, and carry them ten cheeses onto the captain of the thousand,

And look how thy brother and fair, and take their pledge. And Saul

and they and all the men of Israel were in the valley of Elah,

fighting with the Philistines, and David rose up early in the morning, left

the sheep with the keeper, and took and went as Jesse had commanded him.

And he came to the trench as the host was going forth to the

fight, and shouted for the battle for Israel. And the Philistines had put

the battle in the array, army against army, And David left his carriage

in Hannah the keeper of the carriage, and ran to the army, and

came and saluted his brethren. And as he talked with them, behold,

there came up the champion Philistine of Gath Golife by name, out of the

armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words. David heard

them, and all the men of Israel, when they saw the man,

they fled from him and were sore afraid. And the men of Israel said,

have ye seen this man that is come up surely to defy Israel?

Is he come come up? And it shall be that the man who killeth

him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him

his daughter and make his father's house free in Israel. And David spake to

the men that stood by him saying, what shall be done to the man

that killeth the Philistine and taketh away the reproach from Israel? For who is

this uncircumcised philistine? That he should defy the armies of the Living God?

And the people answered him after this manner, saying, so it shall be

done to the man that killeth him. And Eliab, his eldest brother,

heard when he spake unto the men, and Eliab's anger was kindled against David.

And he said, why camest thou down hither, and with whom hast

thou left those few sheep in the wilderness. I know thy pride and the

naughtiness of thine heart, For thou art come down, that thou mightest see

the battle. And David said, what have I now done? Is there

not a cause? And he returned from him toward and he turned from him

toward another, and spake after the same manner, And the people answered him

again after the former matter. And when the words were heard which David spake,

they rehearsed them before Saul, and he sent for him. And David

said to Saul, let no man's heart fail because of him, thy servant

will go and fight with the philistine. And Saul said to David, thaart

not able to go against the philistine, to fight with him, For thou

art but a youth, and he a man of war. From his youth.

And David said to Saul, thy servant kept his father's sheep. There

came a lion and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock.

And I went after him and smote him, and delivered it out of

his mouth. And when he arose against me, I caught him by his

beard and smote him and slew him. Thy servant slew both the lion and

the bear. And this uncircumcised philistine shall be as one of them, Seeing

he had defied the armies of the god. David said, moreover, the

Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the line and out of the

paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this

philistine. And Saul said, unto David, go and the Lord be with

thee. And saw armed David with his armor, and putting a helmet of

brass upon his head. Also he armed him with a coat of mail.

And David girded his sword upon upon his armor, and he essayed to go,

for he had not proved it. And David said, unto Saw,

I cannot go with ease, for I have not proved them. And David

put them off of him, and he took his staff in his hand,

and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in

a shepherd's bag, which he had even in a script. And his sling

was in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine. And the

Philistine came on and drew near unto David, and the man that bare the

shield went before him. And when the Philistine looked about and saw David,

he disdained him, for he was but a youth, and reading of a

fair countenance. And the Philistine said, unto David, am I a dog?

That thou comest to me with staves? And if Philistine cursed David by

his gods, And if Philistine, and the Philistine said to David, come

to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air

and to the beasts of the field. Then said David to the Philistine,

thou comest to me with a sword and a spear, and with a shield.

But I come to Thee in the name of the Lord of Hosts,

the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day,

will the Lord deliver thee into my hands, and I will smite thee

and take thy head from thee. And I will give the carcass of the

host of the Philistines this day, and to the fowls of the air,

and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know

that there is a God in Israel, and all this assembly shall know that

the Lord saveth not with a sword and spear, for the battle is the

Lord's, and he will give you into our hands. And it came to

pass when the Philistine arose and came and drew nigh to meet David, that

David hasted and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put

his hand in the bag and took thanks to tens of stone and slang it

and smote the Philistine in the forehead. That the stone sank into his forehead,

and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over

the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and smote the Philistine, and

smote the Philistine and slew him, But there was no sword in the hand

of David. Therefore David ran and stood upon the Philistine, and took his

sword and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him and cut

off his head. Therewith, And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead,

they fled. And the men of Israel and of Judah rose and shouted

and pursued the Philistines until they come to the valley of the gates of Ekron.

And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way of shea Rim,

even unto Gath and unto Ekrone. And the children of Israel returned from

chasing after the Philistine, and they spoiled their tents, and David took the

head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem. But he put his arm

in his tent, and one all saw David go forth against the Philistine.

He said, he said, unto Abner the chapter the captain of the host,

Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, as thy

soul liveth o King, I cannot tell thee. And the king said,

inquire, thou whose son the stripling is? And David returned from the slaughter

of the Philistine. Abner took him and brought him before Saul, with the

head of the Philistine in his hand. And Saul said to him, whose

son art thou, young man? And David answered, I am the son

of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemali. Well, that's an interesting story, it's

exciting. They wanted to know who this stripling was. They want to know

who this man. Yea, that this young man was. That was really

not the important thing, the important thing that moaning to me. Yeah,

it's important to know who who, who this young man was, who David

was, But it's more important to me knowing that David had a heart after

the heart of God. So this morning, most of you, I don't

know you. I know there's a lot of Burki's here and shrocks, but

that doesn't really matter whether you're a Burkie or a shark, or whether you

go to church here or a couple of miles down the road or around a

corner. That's not the important thing this morning. The important thing this morning,

could God testify of you that you have a heart after the heart of

God. That's what we're concerned about. Okay, what is it? What

have you noticed as we read across this What is it that inspired God to

say that David had a man? David was a man that had a heart

after the heart of God. After Jesse told David that he should go and

take a pledge of his brothers, what did he do? What did we

read? I want you to help me, any of you? I see

the lady sat back. You're kind of scared. I know some ladies that

if they know why I preach on Sunday morning, they sit back. Okay,

did did you find anything? What did David do after his dad told

him that he's supposed to go take a pledge of his brother what did what

did he do? How did he respond? Yes, he left his sheep

with a keeper. That's very important. David was a responsible and a trustworthy

young man. He knew that there were lions, he knew that there were

bears, but he had a concern for the sheep that he was supposed to

be taken care of. So it says that he got up early in the

morning and he went and look for somebody to take care of the sheep in

his absence. I think that is one of the reasons why God testified of

David, saying that he was a man after God's own heart. Because David

was trustworthy, God could trust David. Can God trust you? Are you

trustworthy? Number of years ago in Costrica, some of my nephews said,

hey, uncle, would you go with us to fish? No, I'm

not a fisherman. I don't like to fish, will you? I do?

But I fish had a different place than what they do. I like

to fish. The place where I go to fish, I always catch him.

Maybe they're not the biggest ones. I go to a place where there's

a big science as Walmart. That's why I gold fish. I know exactly

where the fish are. Could walk over there early in the morning and I

go to catch him, and I take them over to the cashier and I

pay for him. I take him home to my wife and I go to

work. I can still make some money during the day, and when I

come home at night, the fish are ready to do this. It's a

lot cheaper boys. Yeah, it's a lot more fun, I think.

Because anyhow, I told my nephews, Okay, well, I'll go with

you the fish. But I already kind of knew ahead of time how this

is going to go. We would always they would go to Rio Frio.

That means a cold river. It's a big river, not very far from

where we lived. So I told him, okay, we got our lines

and our fish worms, and away we went to the river. We sat

beside the river and we threw our lines. And we don't have these fancy

reels. You just have a line and you have it on a little piece

of wood or plastic or something. You wrap it around there. You put

the worm in there, and you threw it in there, and you sit

there beside the river, and you know, you wait and you wait and

you wait, and they don't bite. Maybe you get a few nibbles,

and so you pull on it and you're oh, they eat the worm.

So you bring it back out and wrap it up, and you put another

worm on. You throw it in again, and they bite again, and

sure enough, about forty five minutes later, you get a little old sucker

ball that big. You keep keep on fishing, and you keep on fishing

it. No. No, Then my nephews told me, hey too,

is uncle, let's go on down the river aways, because there's another river

that comes into this one, and there's big ones there so okay, okay.

We walked down there and we did the same thing, and we sat

there by the river fishing, and we caught two more that were exactly about

this big, and we fished some aren, we fished some aren. While

we were there fishing, we heard a noise behind us, and we looked

around, and sure enough, on one of the trees there behind us,

they were like twenty five white faced monkeys. Coastre he has lots of monkeys.

So we decided, you know, oh we got is these three little

suckers anyhow, and the fish aren't biting, we might as well go after

a monkey. So that's what we did. We threw our lines down and

we went back to that tree, and we were just sure we were going

to find a monky. We were gonna catch a monkey that they go along

home. Well, we were back there foot about an hour and a half

and you gutted it. He did not catch a monkey. They were a

little small in what we were. So we came back again and we wanted

to resume our fishing. We couldn't find the visualize they were gone. Probably

while we were chasing or looking for monkeys, a big fish came and probably

got that hook in his mouth and the way they went with everything, so

we were not very trustworthy. I know of way too many people that have

committed their lives to the lordship of Jesus Christ. They started reading their Bibles,

they started going to church, and they were zealous for God's word and

for going to go But it seems like after some time they quit reading their

Bible. Their devotional life was dull and dry, and so they abandon them

because there's a lot more things out there. I call them monkeys that are

more attractive than the word of God and going to church. So they go

out after the monkeys. What they see on the outside, it looks more

appealing. Can any of you identify with that, having giving up your life

of Jesus Christ, your Christian life, and going after something out there,

only to discover after some time you couldn't catch a monkey. You completely missed

it. David was a man after God's own heart. He was trust worthy.

God could depend on David. Are we could God testify of us that

since we gave our lives to the lords of Jesus Christ, that we have

been faithful. We have a heart that is after the heart of God.

We loved the Lord Jesus Christ. And we're growing in our Christian life and

experience. That needs to be our experience, young people. We dare not

go after monkeys. May God help us going on down here? Notice it

says in here in first Hammuel's having teen. In verse sixteen, it says

the philistine drew near morning and evening and presented himself forty days. He was

an uncircumcised philistine that was defying the armies of the Living God. But David

rose up early in the morning. He left the sheep with the keeper,

and he took and went as Jesse had commanded him. Then in verse twenty

four, noticed what it says there. In verse twenty four says, all

the men of Israel, when they saw the giant, they fled from him,

and they were sore afraid. Here they were at the battle, the

Philistines on one side and the children of Israel on the other side. And

because of this philistine, because he was big, all the men of Israel

were scared, and they went and they hid themselves. They were like jellyfish.

Do you know what jellyfish do and what they are? Way too many

people today and I want to say this to myself. We are just like

jellyfish when we come and we eat up with something where we are tempted to

sell out. Like the brother said earlier, jellyfish don't have brains. They

don't have brains. Way too many people today it comes spiritually to taking a

stand and doing what they know they should. They don't have brains that to

go after monkeys, all them Inivisrael, when they saw the man, they

fled from him and were so afraid. Can you tell me who was there

to take care of the giant? Can you answer my question? Who was

there to take care of the giant? All them individual flat they went and

hid themselves, So who is there to take care of the giant? Yes,

David. David was willing to stand and be a man. David was

willing to put his life in danger to defend God's people. And that's another

reason why God testified of David, saying that he is a man after God's

own heart, because he was willing to stand up and do what needed to

be done at the right time. And that's why God testified David saying that

he was a man after God's own heart. Yes, he was a valiant

young man, are you Are you willing to take a stand when a stand

needs to be taken, or do you sway? What do you do,

young man, when nobody else is watching? Do you take a stand for

God? Are you willing to stand where you need to stand? Do you

have a heart for God? Like David did? All the other men,

all the men of Israel, they fled, they went and hid themselves.

And David, the little separate boy, he was willing to take a stand,

put his life in danger to defend God's people. He had a brain.

David stood alone. He put his life in danger to defend God's people.

Notice what it says here in versus thirty four and through thirty seven.

David said this, all thy servant kept his father's sheep. And there came

a line and a bear and took a line out, a line out of

the flock. And I went after him and smote him and delivered it out

of his mouth. And when he arose against me, I caught him by

his beard and smote him and slew him. Well, I would have liked

to have seen that this little shepherd boy, catching him by his beard,

and he smote him and slew him. Thy servant slew both a lion and

a bear, and this uncircumcised philistine shall be as one of them, seeing

that he hath defied the armies of the Living God. And David said,

moreover, the Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion,

that of paw the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of

this philistine. And Saul said, unto David, go and the Lord be

with thee. Is that what you do when you meet up with giants?

All of us meet them. All of us have giants that we have to

deal with. How do we deal with him? Do we slay them?

In the name of the lard? Are we valiant? Are we willing to

stand up and take a stand and be a man? David was a valiant

young man. Going on to point number three, Notice what it says in

verse forty says he took his staff in his hand and chose him five smooth

stones out of the brook, and put them into shepherd's bag, which he

had even a script. And his sling was in his hand, and he

drew near to the philistine. Okay, here it says there were he took

five smooth stones. You know, the Philistines were on the one side and

Israel was on the other. Says there was a valley in between, and

there was like a river. I guess. And when David went down to

meet this giant, he went down to the creek, and he chose five

smooth stones. Why do you think, young lady, that he chose smooth

stones? You don't know. Some of the others know. Why did he

choose five smooth stones? You tell me you don't know either. Okay,

we'll come over here to this young man. Why did he choose five smooth

stones to hit the giant better? Well, it's a pretty good answer.

Did you ever choose some flat stones and you got down and you you threw

them like that and you had him skip over the white Why didn't you take

a round one? No, it doesn't work. What happens with it?

It goes boiling, Ye, it goes. So that's why he chose smooth

stones. You can aim much better with one of those smooth ones. They

fly better, You can be more exact. I want you to tell me

why he chose five. You have an idea? Why you chose five?

You have no idea? Okay, we shall ask somebody else, Dennis,

that's a very good answer, but you're one hundred percent wrong. Okay,

girls, you help the boys out. Why did he take five? Yeah,

come on, I think you know it. Give me give the boys

the answer to kill the bodyguard. Nope, you're wrong as well. Somebody

else over here, do you know? But you read your Bible. Yes,

the giant had four brothers. Let me give you the reference, and

you look it up. Second Samuel twenty one twenty two. Look it up.

It's right there. Well, some translations are a little different. Second

Samuel twenty one twenty two. My Bible says these four were born to the

giant in Gath and fell by the hand of David and by the hand of

his servants. Wow, David was exact. David knew his circumstances, he

knew what was going on there, and when the giant came out and defied

them, David already knew that there was four more back in there. So

they put his hand in his excuse me, in his pocket. He got

a stone out and why I can just see him whip that thing or it

whistled, and he threw that thing and hit him right in the head,

sunk right in here it says he fell over and then he Oh, that

would have been so exciting to watch that. He ran over there and stood

on him, pulled his big machetti out, got a hold of his hair

and pulled and cut his head off, blood squirting it all over. I

mean, seriously, that's what happened. That's one of the reasons why God

said that David was a man after God's own heart. He did what needed

to be done. He stood where he needed to be standing, and he

got rid of that enemy. And I can just see Daven after he cut

his head up off, and then he probably stood there and just okay,

I know there's four more in there and up four more stones coming in.

Yes, that's what he did. David was exact. He knew his circumstances,

He knew what was going on there. Do you know yours all of

us have enemies, all of us know what our giants are. Can you

tell me what Jesus did to take care of his giants? After he fasted

forty days and forty nights, he was finished fasting, and then Satan came

and he tempted him with what with? What did he tempt him with?

Food? Yeah? He knew that Jesus was hungry, so he said,

turned these stones into bread. How did Jesus respawn to that? Gold?

Girls? Tell us, how did Jesus respond to that? But you read

your Bible. Yes, men should not live by bread alone. He had

the word of God hid in his heart when he was tempted. That's what

came out. That's what I'm talking about, that we should know our circumstances.

We should be exact like David was, like Jesus was. Satan tempted

Jesus three times, and all three times he came out with the scripture verse

to say no to what he was tempted with. That's what you need to

do. That's what I need to do. We need to have the word

of God written in our hearts, to the extent that when we are tempted

with those temptations, with those giants they come and they tempt us, we

need to have the word of God written in our hearts and we repeat that

to overcome our enemies. We need to be exact. We need to know

our circumstances. If you are tempted to lie, then look for verses that

talk about lying. If you are attempted to word. To use bad words,

then look for something that talks about bad words. If you are attempted

with illicit sex, then look for verses that talk about illicit sex. It's

right there. Haven't written in your hearts and when you were attempted, that's

what needs to come out. You need to be exact. You need to

stand on your feet. David was a man after God's own heart. He

did what he needed to do. Five smooth stones, precision, exact,

accurate, that's what we need to be. There were five giants. Thanks

Dennis for saying that. You know that only makes sense what you said.

You know, if you miss with the first one, we got four more.

You don't know throw the next five. Maybe with one of them you'll

hit. But that was not David's case. He was exactly, are you

exact? Okay? Do you stand where you need to sound? Okay?

You have a heart after God's hard good. I like that. All right,

we must go on. I'm going to Troy and not go of to

him. The next point point number four, verse twenty six of verse Samuel

seventeen, verse twenty six, let me see here, Yes, and David

spake to the men that stood by him saying, what shall be done to

the man that killeth this philistine and taketh away the reproach for Israel? For

who is this uncircumcised philistine that would defy the armies of the Living God?

Who is this uncircumcised philistine? Okay? Apparently David from his youth had been

taught a love and a respect for God's people and God's House. And when

he left home and came over where the Philistines and Chillwin of Israel had the

battle, and this philistine came out and he was defying the armies of the

Living God. That turned David off. He had been taught respect for God's

people, respect for God's House, and here was uncircumcised philistine talking the way

he did about God's people. David decided, No, that's not the way

it is. Excuse me, So what did David do? If you go

to the book of Psalm again and again in the book of Psalm, David

expresses his love and his appreciation for God's people and for God's House. For

example, in Psalms one hundred and twenty two, verse one, the verse

said I quoted earlier, what was it? Can any of you quote it

for me without looking in your bibles. Can you say I'm an old man.

You have to talk louder. Yes, I was glad. One of

the said to me, let us go into the house of the Lord.

David, again and again in the book of Psalms, he expresses his appreciation

for God's people and God's house. Open your bibles with me to Psalms eighty

four. I think it is Psalms eighty four. Yeah, I'm pretty sure

that's where it is. Again David expressed his love and his appreciation for God's

house. See if I can find that in in verse one of Psalms eighty

four, How amiable are thy tabernacles, Oh Lord of Hosts, My soul

longeth yea even fainteth for the courts of the Lord. My heart of my

flesh crieth out for the Living God. Then, going on down the same

chapter, in verse ten, it says, for a day and night courts

is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper at the house

of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord

God is a son in the shield. The Lord will give thee grace and

glory and again and again is you can go through the throughout the book of

Psalms, and you will notice the appreciation that David has for God's people and

for God's House. How do you measure up this morning with Hebrews ten twenty

five? Can somebody quote that for me without looking in your bibles? Hebrews

ten twenty five? Let's see who could do it? First? Beat them

boys? Beat, beat them, beat the boys? Gone? You got

it? Is the preacher man here this morning? Yep, there he is.

We got a few more. Okay, anyway you preach preacher man.

Know what it says in Heavers ten twenty five, one shakes his head?

Do you girls know? I was glad when they said, unto me,

let us go into the house of the Lord. Yes? Could God testify

of you saying that you are a group of young people that have a heart

after God's heart because you'd love to be a God's house. Do you enjoy

going to God's house? Or do you? Sometimes? I'm not sure?

Let me see while you're still in bad I think maybe I have a headache

today. Do you love going to God's House and meeting God's people and worshiping

together with other fellows, fellow believers. That's one of the reasons why God

testified of David, saying that he was a man after God's own heart because

of the love that he had for God's people and for God's hells. May

God help us. Okay, where are we at here? For Samuel eighteen,

Open your bibles with me to first Samuel chapter eighteen, verse six through

eight. This is right after the chapter that we read with the fifty eight

verses where David killed the Giant. For Samuel eighteen Versus six and eight says,

and it came to pass as they came when David was returned from the

slaughter of the Philistines. You remember as we read chapter seventeen that Saul said

that whoever kills the Giant, I will give him my daughter, and his

house will be made free in Israel. Okay, So now this had all

taken place, and it says and it came to pass as they came when

David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine that the women came out of

all cities of Israel, singing and dancing to meet King Saul, with tabots

joy and with instruments of music. And the women answered one another as they

played, and said, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten

thousands. And Saul was very wroth. He was angry. The Bible says

he was troubled. The saying displeased him. And he said, they have

ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have abscribed but thousands.

And what can he have more but the kingdom? Saul was envious. Here

David had killed more by killing the giant than what he did, and he

didn't like it. He was a troubled man. So sometime later he had

made a big feast for all his important men, but he wasn't hungry.

He didn't feel like eating. He was troubled. So we asked, I

think it was abner. If he could go and find somebody that can sing

and play for him, maybe his troubles will go away. So he went

and looked at sure enough he found one. Who did he find David?

Yes? So let you imagine here here we have a long table, Saul

sitting down at that end. The table goes all the way there, and

all his important men, and David was standing all the way over here at

this end of the table, and he was singing and playing with his harp,

and his dad in law was over there. So David was exact.

David was vigilant. He had a good idea what might happen. So he

was here singing and he was playing on his harp. But he was watching

his dad in law and he saw, sure enough, every side his chair

there was a spear laying. But he kept right on playing his harp and

singing and watching his dad in law. Share enough, a little bit later

he noticed that his dad in law, Saul, put his hand down and

he got a hold of the spear. David kept right on playing his harp

and singing, and he brought that spear up and he threw it over this

way, and David jumped off to the side, and the spear stuck in

the wall. Yes, what did David do with a spear? You don't

know what did he do? I don't want to just ask these first ones

what did David do with a spear? You read your Bible, don't you?

Yeah, he just missed it. Okay, do you know what he

did? What did he do with it? Yeah? You're not quite sure.

Okay, we'll see if the boys know. Any of you boys know

what he did with it? He pulled it out and what well, maybe

he did. Maybe I don't read my Bible quite enough. I was thinking

he left it stuck right there in the wall, and he went hiding from

his dad in law. You told me Dennis is your big brother. What

would you do if Dennis comes and hits you in the face, how would

you respond? You would hit him back. I took you as a man

that has a heart after the heart of God. Okay, when Saul did

that, I know that verse probably didn't exist then yet. But sour David,

he thought vengeance his mind. I will repay Seth the Lord. He

left the spear right there, and he went into hiding for years from his

own dad in law. He was a man that a heart after the heart

of God. He suffered for many years trying to escape from his dad in

law. It's called respect, young man. Respect. We heard about respect

for parents, respect for authority. That's what David had. It wasn't only

his dad in law, but it was a king and he had respect.

I want you all to be real, honest. How many of you within

the last year got a speeding ticket? Raise your hand. The pretty true

man go what. Okay, I work as a prison chaplain. Here's some

time ago. I work in two different prisons. Some time ago, I

was all late. I was going to our local jail there in Tone,

and I had basically gone through town and was now on the own skirts.

And so I guess my foot was heavy. I stepped on a little bit,

and just as I did, I saw him sitting right there. And

just like that, he turned around and here he comes, those nice Christmas

lights right behind me. So I pulled over. The best thing you can

do, boys, is when that happens is rolled both windows down. Get

your driver's license and your insurance paper right away. And when he comes to

tell him good morning, and anyhow, so this old grapple, he was

an old grandpa, the cop was. And he came up and he stood

there at the window and he says, sir, where are you going so

fast this morning? I looked at it, up at it in myself.

I'm going to prison, and I was, and he said really. And

then he looked down on the passenger seat, and that's where I had my

prison id, and he looked at it. He said, are you a

prison chapman? I said, I am. He said, well, you

have a good day, but watch your speed. Yes, men, after

God's own heart, respect for the law, respect for our parents, respect

for the preacher. Man. David was a respectful man. One more second,

Samuel eleven. You don't have to you may if you want to turn

to this. David was idol on the rooftop of his house, and the

saying that my mom told me again and again, idle us is what the

devil's workshop exactly. So David was idle on the top of his house.

And while he was there, he saw a lady over there. And I'm

not blaming the lady at all. I'm blaming David. He saw the lady

bathing. She was beautiful, and he sent for her. They brought her

over, and he had sex with that lady, and he got a pregnant.

Everything that he did to try and hide his sin, to cover his

sin, along comes the prophet Nathan. I think it was, you know

the story of what Nathan told him. And after he understood and did some

right thinking, he said, I has sinned. I'm the man now.

I ask you to open your bibles with me to Psalms fifty one. Psalms

fifty one verses one through four. Have mercy upon me, o God,

according to thy loving kindness, according unto the multitude of thy mercies. Blot

out my trans transgressions, Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me

from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgression, and my sin is ever

before me, against thee, against thee. Only have I sinned, and

on this evil in thy sight, that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest,

and be clear when thou judgest. In the same chapters verse Saven,

purge me with this up and I shall be clean. Wash me and I

shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness, that

the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sin

and black out all my iniquities. Created me a clean heart, o God,

and renew irate spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence,

and take not thy holy spirit from me, and it goes on restoring

to me the joy of my salvation. Youth, if you commit a sin,

be like David. You can be blamed us. Confess your sin,

repent of your sin, and again the Bible. You know God does exactly

what he says he will if we confess our sins. He's faithful justice forgives

our sins and the cleanses from allen righteousness, and he removes them from us

as far as the east is from the west, and he remembers them no

more. That makes us men and women with a heart that have a heart

after God. Shall we pray our Father in heaven. We're so grateful for

your goodness, your mercy, your love, and your forgiveness. We're not

worthy, and yet we want to humbly bow our hearts and see. Thank

you. Bless each one of these young men and each one of the young

sisters, the struggles and the difficulties that they go through on a daily basis.

Give them grace and help them to be like David was, even though

many others fall by the wayside and turn around and cross the red line.

Help them to take a stand and to do what they know they should do.

We have the promise in your word that you will bless them. I

commit them to you in the name of Jesus. Amen, I want a

person will thank you. I think you want you for being a youth group

that is godly. May God bless you for that, and as you continue

on in your Christian life and experience, God is sure to bless you as

you do that.
