  1. Good morning and greetings. In the precious name of Jesus,

  2. I too want to welcome each one here this morning.

  3. I invite you to open your Bible to Genesis six

  4. this morning. I'd like to have some thoughts on the

  5. Christian Home, and that's a pretty broad subject, so we

  6. will narrow it down a little bit, but I would

  7. like to I was debating about giving my title a

  8. little ways down here, but I thought it might help

  9. if we have in mind what the subject is as

  10. we read through this. I'm going to read all the

  11. way through chapter six and partly into chapter seven as

  12. an introduction, and I was thinking about this subject. I

  13. think it's it's probably one of it's the highest requested

  14. subject when we suggested from people from you, we'd like

  15. a message on the Christian home or some aspect of it,

  16. or child training or and so forth. And maybe the

  17. least preached on. I know Brother Leland had some sessions

  18. on it, and that was a couple of years ago.

  19. Already I thought it was more recent than that. I was.

  20. I've been told that there should be a message on

  21. the Christian Home at least once a year in a congregation,

  22. So we're we have some catching up to do yet.

  23. And as I said, this is it's not exhaustive, and

  24. we're probably looking more at one aspect of it because

  25. it can hardly do more than that amount of time

  26. we have. And probably another reason we're slow to do it.

  27. To preach about the Christian home is it's a it's

  28. intimidating two be that vulnerable because we all get up

  29. and we all have homes, and we're struggling through this

  30. trying to do our best. But I think that's not reason.

  31. That's not reason enough to not encourage one another in it.

  32. So I think I'm going to start it says not,

  33. I'm not going to read the whole story. You probably

  34. reckon Isa as soon as I say Genesis six is

  35. the story of Noah and the art we're going to

  36. read I think through verse five and chapter seven, so

  37. we're going to stop before the flood. But I'd like

  38. to then take some take some you use this as

  39. a springboard this morning. Genesis six, verse one. And it

  40. came to pass when men began to multiply and to

  41. face the earth, that daughters were born unto them. And

  42. the sons of God saw the daughters of men, and

  43. they were fair, and they took them wives of all

  44. which they chose. And Lord said, my spirit shall not

  45. always strive with man, for that he also is flesh.

  46. Yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.

  47. There were giants in the earth in those days, and

  48. also after that, when the sons of God came in

  49. unto the daughters of men, and they bear children to them,

  50. the same became mighty men, which were of old men

  51. of renow. And God saw that the wickedness of man

  52. was great in the earth, and that every imagination of

  53. the thoughts of his heart was only evil. Continually, and

  54. repented the Lord that he had made man on earth,

  55. and aggrieved him at his heart. And the Lord said,

  56. I will destroy man whom I have created from the

  57. face of the earth, both man and beast, and the

  58. creeping thing, and the fowls of the air. For it

  59. repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found

  60. grace in the eyes of the Lord. These are the

  61. generations of Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect

  62. in his generations. And Noah walked with God. And Noah

  63. begot three sons, shem Ham and Jayfeth. The earth also

  64. was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

  65. Then God looked upon the earth, and behold it was corrupt,

  66. and all the flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

  67. And God said unto Noah, the end of all flesh

  68. has come before me. But the earth is filled with

  69. violence through them, And behold, I will destroy them with

  70. the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood rooms.

  71. Shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it

  72. within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion

  73. which thou shalt make of it. The length of the

  74. ark shall be three hundred cubits, and the breadth of

  75. at fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

  76. A window shalt tell mate to the ark, and in

  77. a cubit shalt thou finish it above and the door

  78. of the ark, shalt thou sitting aside thereof with lower,

  79. second and third story, shalt thou make it. And behold,

  80. I even I do bring a flood of waters upon

  81. the earth to destroy all flesh. Wherein is the breath

  82. of life from under the heavens, and everything that is

  83. in the earth shall die. But with these will I

  84. establish my covenant and thou shalt come into the art

  85. that thou and my sons, and my wife thy sons

  86. wise with THEE, and of every living thing, of all flesh,

  87. two of every sort shalt thou bring into the art

  88. to keep them alive with THEE. They shall be male

  89. and female, of fowls, after their kind, of cattle, after

  90. their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after

  91. his kind. Two of every sort shall come unto THEE

  92. to keep them alive. And thou, and take thou unto

  93. THEE of all food that is eaten, and thou hast

  94. gathered it to THEE, and it shall be for food

  95. for THEE and for them. Thus did Noah according to

  96. all that God commanded him. So did he, and the

  97. Lord said, unto Noah, come thou, all of thy house

  98. unto the art. For THEE. Have I have I seen

  99. righteous before me in this generation? Of every clean beast,

  100. thou shalt take to THEE by sevens the male and

  101. the female, And of beasts that are not clean, by

  102. two the male and his female, a foul also of

  103. the air, by sevens the male and the female, to

  104. keep seed upon the face of the earth for yet

  105. seven days. And I will cause it to rain upon

  106. the earth forty days and forty nights. In every living

  107. substance that I have made well, I destroy from off

  108. the face of the earth. And Noah did according unto

  109. all that the Lord commanded him. And if I just

  110. like to point out that the verse before we started

  111. said no it was five hundred years old, and the

  112. verse after we end, he was six hundred years old.

  113. So we just read about one hundred years right there.

  114. Going back verse five, God saw the wickedness that was

  115. upon the earth. And you know, I think when we

  116. read those those first verses there, if we're aware at all,

  117. we would know that we live in a world that's

  118. very simil alert in the great wickedness. And I think

  119. maybe it's too easy to forget that that God sees

  120. that wickedness all around us and in us. That says,

  121. but Noah, but Noah found grace in the eyes of

  122. the Lord. God didn't just see the wickedness. He saw Noah,

  123. and he saw a just man, and he saw a

  124. man that that had a purpose. And I believe that

  125. we see and we read that God has had a

  126. vision for Noah and his family. But that was because

  127. Noah had a vision for God and his family and Noah.

  128. It talks about the generations of Noah. It's interesting how

  129. it talks about the generations of Noah says he was

  130. perfect in his generation. He was doing what was right,

  131. and he says he walked with God. And we also

  132. know that he was a preacher of righteousness. And God

  133. told him to make an arc. And that is the

  134. title of my message this morning is safe. Safe in

  135. the ark. Safe in the arc. God said, make an

  136. arc for you and your family, because there's this, there's this,

  137. I see this wickedness, and I am going to destroy

  138. the world. And Noah believed God because he was a

  139. righteous man. He said, I will establish my covenant with

  140. you in verse eighteen, and Noah did in verse twenty two.

  141. In the last verse, I read verse five twenty two

  142. of six, and that says, and Noah did according onto

  143. all that the Lord commanded him. And I'm just blessed

  144. by this obedience of Noah. In fact, civilization today is

  145. blessed by the obedience of Noah. He did all that

  146. the Lord commanded him. And it's easy for us to

  147. read this in less than five minutes. This hundred years

  148. in less than five minutes and think that that, Well,

  149. Noah went out and built an arc. He just went

  150. and did that. But there's one hundred year process here.

  151. There's a going, and there's a collecting to gopher wood,

  152. and there's getting the pitch, and there's he's building that

  153. security for his family. The world is still wicked, and

  154. I think it's easy for us to be dissensitized the

  155. almost by the debauchery around us. We get used to it,

  156. but it's still wicked before God, and God is still

  157. calling the righteous to him. And I believe it's impossible

  158. to raise a family with godly values unless we're providing

  159. an ark of safety for a family. And it's also

  160. worth taking time. It's not something that when our first

  161. child comes along and we decide, hey, we're going to

  162. have an ark of safety for our child and then

  163. we just go on living our life. It's something we

  164. need to be dedicated to it, like Noah was building,

  165. finding the holes, putting pitch in it. You know, it

  166. seems like the easiest way to find a hole would

  167. be to put it in the water and see if

  168. it works. You know, you'd want to test it. But Noah,

  169. we see his diligence. He didn't have that privilege. He

  170. didn't have the water, but he kept looking for looking

  171. for leaks and putting pitch. He pitched it within and without,

  172. he kept patching. So this morning, I'd like to think

  173. about safe in the art or security of the home,

  174. a place of safety. And I was just blessed by

  175. that song we third song we sang this morning, especially

  176. near to the Heart of God, starts out, there's a

  177. place of quiet rest near to the heart of God.

  178. I'm just going to read of what we saying again.

  179. There is a place of quiet rest where sin cannot

  180. mo less near to the heart of God. There is

  181. a place of comfort, sweet where we are savior meet

  182. near to the heart of God. There is a place

  183. of full release, where all is joy and peace, near

  184. to the heart of God. And I believe that applies

  185. to our personal lives. And I believe as God's will

  186. so that it applies to our homes this morning. For

  187. Timothy five, a's is But if any provide not for

  188. his own, especially for those of his own house, he

  189. has to deny the faith and faith and is worse

  190. than an infidel. And I believe that it's easy for

  191. us to apply that quickly to the basic needs to food, clothes,

  192. and shelter. If we're not providing for our own we've

  193. denied the faith. But I believe there are there are

  194. other aspects. That's the physical aspect, But we are we

  195. providing the emotional needs? Are we providing emotional security? Are

  196. we providing spiritual security? Is our home a haven of security?

  197. And as I was as I was considering this question,

  198. I just my mind just kept going back to the

  199. fruit of the spirit, and is our is our home?

  200. And here again I believe the fruit of the spirit

  201. is something we produce individually. But is our home a

  202. production system of the fruit of the spirit. And so

  203. I would just like to look at that as a

  204. as a test for ourselves as we go through and

  205. considers those aspects of what fruit are we bearing in

  206. our homes? And one thing I think is important as

  207. we think about this is is who's responsible and who's

  208. responsible of whether we're providing fruit or showing fruit in

  209. our home, whether we're bearing fruit. Well, I think in

  210. a in a home setting, a father is primarily responsible,

  211. But there is a a father in every home. And

  212. sometimes maybe we think, oh, we're just we just got married,

  213. we don't even have children yet. We can just we

  214. can work quit but we don't need to worry about this.

  215. We can just live with each other and get along

  216. and enjoy that until we have children, then we worry

  217. about it. Or maybe we are one of the children,

  218. and maybe we feel like as was talked about in

  219. Sunday school this morning, maybe you've come to the place

  220. you realize mom and dad aren't perfect. Maybe things feel

  221. a little bit broken, but we still we can be

  222. We can be the healing element in the home by

  223. producing fruit. And I am I'm here to acknowledge that

  224. probably in some respect, we're probably all broken. We all

  225. have things we can we can improve on, and the

  226. best thing we can do is face them and not

  227. make excuses for them. So I think this is we're

  228. all responsible. Galatians five twenty two is where we find

  229. the fruits of the spirit listed. But the fruit of

  230. spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

  231. Against such there is no law. So I'm looking at

  232. the fruit of spirit specifically in the home this morning.

  233. So the first one is love, and this is love

  234. as a commit meant not an emotion. Ephesians five, verse

  235. twenty five to twenty seven says, husbands love your wives,

  236. even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself

  237. for it, that he might sanctify it and sanctify and

  238. cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

  239. that he might present it to himself a glorious church,

  240. not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but

  241. that it should be holy and without blemish. And first

  242. Peter quote Proverbs. I believe it is that love covers

  243. a multitude of sins. Have love within yourselves. Husbands love

  244. your wives. And I think this is this is something

  245. that it's easier to say, then do We can give

  246. verbal easily give verbal affirmation of love and commitment, But

  247. what are the what are the daily manifestations of love?

  248. Are we seeking the good of each other? We're putting

  249. others first? Or do we feel like our wives or

  250. our children are just there to serve us and we

  251. put so much into them, we're providing for them they

  252. should be serving us. Or are we seeking to serve others?

  253. Serve each other? The second fruit is joy. Rejoice evermore

  254. or rejoice always. Philippians and Thessalonians Philippians four forces, rejoice

  255. in the Lord all the way. And again I say rejoice.

  256. And it's some. It's easy sometimes when things are going

  257. well to rejoice, isn't it. It's easy to maybe even

  258. when things are going well for us and not for

  259. someone else, to encourage them to rejoice. But what about

  260. when things aren't going so well? James one two says,

  261. counted all joy when you fall into various temptations or

  262. when you fall into trial, when you have trials, then

  263. you count it joy, for it could be good. Just

  264. turn to that, my brethren, count it all joy when

  265. you fall into diverse temptations or various trials, knowing this

  266. that the trial of your faith work with patience, It

  267. develops you. And the truth is that everyone faces trials.

  268. We do face trials, and it's sometimes it's easy to

  269. look at to only think about our own and fail

  270. to note that others face trials too. And but it

  271. is such a testimony when people are going through trials

  272. and they show this, they have this, this demonstration of

  273. joy and peace, and it's not that they're giddy or

  274. I don't think we need to go looking for trials.

  275. I think we tend to find plenty without looking for them,

  276. but we will face them. And I think it's also

  277. joy comes in in helping each other and encouraging each

  278. other in our facing trials. The next one is peace. First,

  279. we just read about about this this joy bringeth patience

  280. or worketh patients. Well, that'll actually come a little more

  281. in the next one, but peace comes with that great peace.

  282. Have they that love thy law and nothing shall offend them?

  283. And that's I just think of Noah on this there

  284. spending one hundred years building the arc and they've never

  285. seen rain before, and I'm sure we've we've tried to

  286. wrap our minds around this. Imagine what it'd be like

  287. to build this, effectively a skyscraper that was made to float,

  288. and they've never seen water. But he's preaching righteousness and

  289. he keeps on building, and it says, great peace of

  290. they that love the law and nothing shall offend them.

  291. And I suppose I'm just would imagine that the neighbors

  292. probably had some things to say to know that could

  293. have been offensive. Maybe weren't so nice and mocking him

  294. and this loving the law and having peace. It's not

  295. you know, sometimes I've heard and maybe I should say

  296. sometimes I've said I hate conflict. I do not like conflict,

  297. and I have aired in avoiding conflict to the place

  298. that it increases conflict, and so peace is not achieved

  299. by avoiding conflict. Hating conflict is not going to bring peace.

  300. But being honest and facing conflict, now I think it's

  301. a good. Also, there is an aspect where we should

  302. hate conflict, because I've noticed sometimes at the same time

  303. I'm saying, hey, I hate conflict. I don't mind making

  304. a little bit now and then, especially if it's at

  305. the expense of someone else, and that's the conflict we

  306. should hate, it's making it in others. I'd like to

  307. read some verses from Hebrews twelve. Hebrews twelve Versus eleven

  308. to fourteen. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to

  309. be joyous, but grievous, neither nevertheless afterwards to yield with

  310. the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

  311. Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down in the

  312. feeble knees. See, you don't trip those that's creating conflict.

  313. You're helping those that are conflicted and make straight paths

  314. for your feet, that which is laying be turned out

  315. of the way, but let it rather be healed. Follow

  316. peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man

  317. shall see the Lord. And so for ourselves this chastening.

  318. It doesn't seem pleasant at the time, but it says

  319. it brings, and it's not joyous but grievous. But afterwards

  320. it brings a peacible fruit of righteousness to those that

  321. are exercised thereby. But it goes on as that we

  322. are chasing, we're also making it ease peaceful for others

  323. as we go, and looking for ways to make it

  324. peaceful for others. Follow peace with all men, and holiness,

  325. long suffering, or patience and forbearance. And that's I read

  326. verse three of James, knowing this that the trying of

  327. your faith work with patience. The next verse is, but

  328. let patients have our perfect work, that you may be

  329. perfect and entire wanting nothing patience. We endure pain when

  330. we have a goal that's worth it, and sometimes in

  331. the moment of pain or of trials, it's easy to

  332. lose sight of the goal and start focusing on the

  333. pain rather than than the long term benefits. Let patients

  334. have our perfect work gentleness still and James. The third

  335. chapter of the seventeenth verse is with the wisdom that

  336. is from above is first pure than peaceable, gentle, gentle

  337. and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits,

  338. without partiality and without hypocrisy. And are we gentle? And

  339. you know, I think sometimes it's easy to actually when

  340. we know we're right, When we know we're right, it's

  341. it's easy to forget to be gentle. And especially when

  342. we know we're right and someone else is wrong. And

  343. maybe especially if our children have done something foolish or embarrassing,

  344. and it makes me angry because well, truthfully, because of

  345. my embarrassment. But lism that from above is gentle and

  346. Ephesians five four. And this word also has the idea

  347. of kindness, and this be kind one to another's Ephesians

  348. verse thirty two. But I'd just like to read that

  349. in context. It starts out in verse thirty and grieve not,

  350. and grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you

  351. are sealed unto the day of redemption. And then it says,

  352. how to not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, let

  353. all bitterness, wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking,

  354. be put away from you with all malice, and be

  355. kind one to another, tenderhearted, and forgiving one another. And

  356. I just think that is so beautiful. I should finish

  357. that forgiving one another, even as God, for Christ's sake

  358. hath forgiven you. And I think that is so beautiful.

  359. And we forget I think sometimes the power of gentleness

  360. and kindness to the undeserved, because we didn't deserve it,

  361. but Christ, God, for Christ's sake hath forgiven us. Going

  362. on to goodness, Galatians six ten says, as we therefore

  363. have the opportunity tunity, let us do good unto all men,

  364. especially to them that are of the household of faith,

  365. doing what's good, what's right faith. Psalm one nineteen eleven

  366. says that word have I hit in my heart that

  367. I might not sin against thee? And are we people

  368. of faith? And I believe what's in our heart flows out.

  369. It's not our profession, it's not what we say. It's

  370. what's in our heart. And our profession of faith doesn't

  371. put us in the arc, you know, once the door

  372. was shut, I'm sure that, I'm sure that, as it

  373. says in the Bible that every nie shall bow. I'm

  374. sure that all of those outside the arc had an

  375. opportunity to realize they were wrong, and they had a

  376. desire to be in the arc, but their heart was

  377. not there. They did not have the faith to be

  378. in the arc when the door was open. Meekness or humility,

  379. the willingness to put others first. Again, this is even

  380. if we are the dad or older, or are stronger.

  381. This can be shown by deferring power even when we

  382. don't have to or need to. Or maybe it's dad

  383. doing some of the menial tasks, or the older's children

  384. not just leaving it for the younger ones, even if

  385. we can make someone else do it. Remember David's brothers

  386. out there. The story of David's in Goliath is who

  387. did you leave those few sheep with? See that there's

  388. a lack of meekness or humility on their part. Temperance

  389. or self control is the last one here. Let your

  390. moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

  391. I think temperance is often linked to substance abuse and

  392. that type of thing, but there's there's many addictions, there's

  393. many areas in life. We know that we need to

  394. practice self control. We need to practice self control financially,

  395. and we had that in Sunday School this morning. I

  396. mean neither poverty nor riches. Either one can be a

  397. detriment to the security of the family, and maybe both

  398. have the Both negligence and the chasing of wealth have

  399. the same net result in the insecurity in children. It

  400. can be in food. In our lifestyle. Do we have

  401. the ability to say no because we can see where

  402. things go? That's temperance. We see beyond the moment. We

  403. know that buying a horse involves a fence and hay

  404. and riding and care, and it's a lot more than

  405. just a horse. So security, how is how is your arc?

  406. How is my arc? This morning? There is have I

  407. met the basic needs of the family? The family is

  408. a is a social unit and I are we meeting

  409. those needs? Are we eating together? Are we praying together?

  410. Are we playing together? And then how does this that security?

  411. That social unit interact with the church, which is another

  412. social unit. And sometimes it can feel like it can

  413. feel like they're at odds with each other. But I

  414. think if we if we look at them at accurately,

  415. we the this social unit should be benefiting should they

  416. should be benefiting each other as we exist together. But

  417. then how do we reconcile whether family or church is

  418. more important? And it comes down to some pretty practical things.

  419. Sometimes I'm not I'm not quite sure I know that

  420. answer exactly, but I do know that if we're if

  421. we're just going to be selfish and say well, we

  422. have our family and we're not going to give to

  423. the church, that is going to have its reward. And

  424. I believe it's also if if we just are saying well,

  425. we're just going to give our lives to the church,

  426. we're just going to be we can be gone all

  427. the time, or the church community, that can go too

  428. far too and I think both can be can be

  429. a lack of both can cause a lack of security.

  430. But I think maybe a healthier way is to is

  431. to be able to I know we often say up

  432. here that when you're asked to do something by the church,

  433. you shouldn't say no, and I actually I agree with that,

  434. And on the other side of my face, I'm going

  435. to say that there's a time to say no. There's

  436. a time to say no for the sake of the family,

  437. But don't say no all your life. Don't say no

  438. all the time. Don't make no your de fault. But

  439. if you're in a place where it's not best for

  440. your family, be real about it. But also there's plenty

  441. of times to be willing. So at what point was

  442. Noah and his family safe? Was it when God saw

  443. that Noah was different? Was it when he started building

  444. the arc? Was it when God shut the door as

  445. we went on? Was it when when he built the

  446. altar and worshiped after the flood? Finally safe? I believe

  447. that Noah was safe as he obeyed God and as

  448. he did all that God come demanded him to do.

  449. Know one, his family was safe and they found security.

  450. And you know, as we're living life with a godly

  451. family in this society, the world might compliment us, the

  452. world might deride us for some of the crazy things

  453. we do, but guaranteed they notice, they notice that if

  454. we're if we're a preacher of righteousness, and if we're

  455. building an arc of safety for our family, the Lord blessed.

  456. Let's have a song
