  1. Good morning, bringing greetings this morning, and in the name

  2. of Jesus and the name of Jesus Christ, I have

  3. been I have I have been impressed this morning with

  4. the kind of the con the continuity of the continuity

  5. of thought, I guess is what I would call that,

  6. I guess before I before I go into it this

  7. any farther, I'll just I'll add one announcement kind of

  8. my wife and myself and the two two youngest children

  9. we planned to leave this week go down to Mexico

  10. Portobayarta and next well, this this week Saturday, a few

  11. of the youth are coming down to join us, Mindy

  12. Natalie Hans sire Kent about a half a dozen of them.

  13. They're going to spend a couple of weeks down there

  14. as well, so you can remember us in prayer as

  15. well as we do some work, do some projects there,

  16. language learning, orphanages, but most of all being being salt

  17. and light where we find ourselves. This morning for a

  18. sermon I had and I find this a little bit interesting.

  19. I keyed this in as an introductory thought. I was

  20. going to give this before I gave the title, So

  21. I just will but what I had down here was

  22. this quest just a question how does God speak to us?

  23. And are we prepared to hear his voice? It's much

  24. what Dan was just saying. Then I have a three

  25. point A three point I mean's something that I've heard often.

  26. I think there's some safety in this three ways that

  27. God speaks through his written word, through his Holy Spirit,

  28. and through his people, the church that I've carried with

  29. me for quite a while. And well, a threefold chord

  30. is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes said that wrote that the

  31. writer what to what to preach about? I was given

  32. an assignment. I was given assignment a couple of weeks ago,

  33. well two months ago, maybe assigned a topic and I

  34. gave I studied this and I gave it at our

  35. friends up north at Hope Well their Bible they called

  36. their Bible conference. But the title that it was given

  37. to me to spend thirty minutes on was this question

  38. for what saith the scripture about dot dot dot divorce.

  39. So you can turn in your bibles to mark chapter ten.

  40. I'd like to read read that read a passage there

  41. that was the text given for what saith the scriptures

  42. about divorce? And so as as we think about this,

  43. this concept of God's spirit. We have God's written word,

  44. we have the Church that speaks into our life in

  45. the form of people talking to us. Mark chapter ten,

  46. beginning with verse one. Read this slight introduction here. I'll

  47. interrupt myself a few times. Mark chapter ten, verse one.

  48. And he talking about Jesus arose from Thence and cometh

  49. into the coast of Judea by the farther side of Jordan.

  50. And the people resort unto him again. And as he

  51. was wont whereas he was accustomed to doing, he taught

  52. them again. And the Pharisees came to him and asked him,

  53. is it lawful for a man to put away his

  54. wife tempting him? And he answered and said, unto them?

  55. What did Moses command you? So let me just pause,

  56. pause right there this and give you just a little

  57. bit of a little bit of background. This question, this

  58. question that was tossed at Jesus was kind of a

  59. not really a trick question, but probably more of a

  60. trap question. Apparently there was more than one. There were

  61. two different, two different schools of thought, two different I

  62. don't know if they were colleges of the day. I

  63. read some read a few articles about it. Didn't try

  64. to wrap my mind all the way around what it was.

  65. But it came down to a discrepancy or a difference

  66. in how to interpret what Moses wrote. Now, Moses had written,

  67. Moses had written in one language, most probably it was Hebrew,

  68. the common language on the ground in the country of

  69. Israel then two thousand years ago. I don't believe that's

  70. what they were speaking. There was there was another language.

  71. So they had they had, they had room for room

  72. for question here, and it was it was a technicality,

  73. and if you agreed with you, you would tend to

  74. agree with one side or the other. Let's let's read.

  75. Let's read, Let's read on through what Jesus answered. So

  76. the trap question, let's get let's get Jesus tangled up here.

  77. Is it lawful for a man to put away his

  78. wife tempting him? Verse three? And he answered and said,

  79. unto them, what did Moses command you? And they said,

  80. Moses suffered or allowed or permitted us to write, to

  81. write a bill of divorcement and to put her away.

  82. And Jesus answered and said, unto them, for the hardness

  83. of your heart, he wrote you this precept. But from

  84. the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female.

  85. For this cause, shall a man leave his father and

  86. mother and cleave to his wife, and they twain shall

  87. be one flesh. So then they are no more twain,

  88. but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, Let

  89. not man put asunder? And in the house I take it. Later,

  90. his disciples again asked him of the same matter, and

  91. he saith under them. Whosoever shall put away his wife

  92. and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a

  93. woman shall put away her husband and be married to another,

  94. she committeth adultery. So that's the scene, that's the that's

  95. the backdrop, that's the that's words of words of Christ.

  96. So this morning of what I'd like to do is

  97. go through here that we're going to look at this

  98. question to Christ and some concepts that we can extrapolate

  99. or take out of that. I'm going to read scripture

  100. concerning divorce, and then we're going to move into marriage

  101. from what it symbolizes, and then some practical some scriptures

  102. pointing us down some practical living. And so Moses Moses

  103. law back to this question, and in one of the

  104. other passages that we'll read when when we read down

  105. through these, the term or the phrase for any cause

  106. or for every cause comes up. And the question here

  107. by these pharisees was what is the permissible way? How

  108. what what's the permissible criteria for a man to divorce

  109. his wife? Moses law, as interpreted by the most liberal side,

  110. made for an almost do as you please situation. Apparently

  111. a man could could could get tired of his wife

  112. in a divorcer for any cause. And as humans, as humans,

  113. we we we gravitate toward those do as you please interpretations.

  114. In fact, I was this is a this is a

  115. bit of a side trail. But I was brought up

  116. kind of face to face with that probably two years ago,

  117. and it was actually in in part of my port

  118. of art to Mexico talking to a Buddhist man. He

  119. was a Buddhist chiropractor, and he asked me a couple

  120. of questions about you know, what do you We went

  121. into his office and he very quickly angled towards the

  122. spiritual or the spiritual religious questions. He's a Buddhist, but

  123. very learned, very very well read. He could almost tell

  124. me as much about Christianity as I could though he didn't.

  125. That wasn't his practicing faith. But I said, no, I

  126. would like to see a I would like to see

  127. a Bible believing Christ teaching following group here in Puerto

  128. BYRTA at some point in the future. He just he stopped.

  129. He said, Oh, that's a tough sell. That's going to

  130. be a really tough sell. You know that, don't you.

  131. He said, Listen, these guys, these Catholics here, they've they've

  132. got they've got it just the way they want it.

  133. Live like you want all the time, and weekly, monthly, annually,

  134. whatever it went on your schedule, get to the priest,

  135. take care of your take care of the past year,

  136. and do what you want for the next year. How

  137. are you going to compete with that? That's what a

  138. Buddhist man asked me, like like, well, yeah, that's that's

  139. one way of looking at it. On the other hand,

  140. Christ's words are the words of life. Christ teaching has

  141. a better has a better outcome generally. And he quickly

  142. agreed with that. Yeah, that's that's that's right. So these

  143. men back to the back to this question to Jesus

  144. and this this exchange, What concepts do we find in

  145. this exchange bill of divorcement. That was that was a

  146. legal document. They said, Moses suffered verse four, write a

  147. bill of divorcement, put her away. The bill of divorcement

  148. apparently was a was a legal way under the law.

  149. It was a legal document. It was not just simply

  150. drafted by the by the disgruntled husband, but it was

  151. it was via the via the city elders, or yeah,

  152. the city elders draft the document, and it was it

  153. was his, it was his legal document. But there had

  154. to be And then then then you had the criteria

  155. for the document. What what what would qualify? What? How?

  156. How bad would this have to be? The other phrases

  157. here concepts put his wife married to another, those are

  158. all phrases we find in there. Adultery, Jesus said in

  159. verse eleven. There who's who'll put away his wife and

  160. marry another committed adultery against her. That's that's we understand

  161. what that would be. And then the why it's not

  162. in this it's not in this passage, but Jesus Jesus

  163. stated that, yeah, Moses allowed that, but you simply wouldn't

  164. have it any other way. Your your hard hearts, your

  165. sighting of irreconcilable differences. Another fact, another fact that made

  166. this this thing really tangly when when they were when

  167. Jesus referenced or told these flipped the question on them

  168. and said, what did what did Moses command you? To?

  169. Actually put these people a little bit in a in

  170. a quandary, but in a way it was a quandary.

  171. They didn't mind. You See, capital punishment is not a

  172. is not a fun thing. Capital punishment everyone shrinks back from.

  173. But that is actually what if you want to read

  174. the entirety of Moses, Jesus would have indicated that Moses

  175. allowed this, allowed to build a divorcement for adultery. But

  176. if adultery was verified, there was going to be a killing,

  177. There was going to be a stoning. There was going

  178. to be capital punishment. These folks when Jesus, when they

  179. were trapping Jesus here, they had it kind of kind

  180. of good because they couldn't do that the room it

  181. was it was on, I mean the Romans. The Romans

  182. said you may not. And so to have followed moses

  183. commands explicitly would have gotten them in trouble with Rome.

  184. They would have they might have lost their head, and

  185. so thinking about the the time when when Jesus the

  186. woman taken an adulter that was brought before Jesus. Jesus

  187. ended that saying, neither do I can condemn you, go

  188. and send no more. I think part of the reason

  189. why no man wanted to pick up the first stone

  190. was he was worried about his own neck. He didn't

  191. he couldn't and survive. So thus, in a way, Moses law,

  192. by taking part of it but not the full of it,

  193. was kind of a means to an end for their

  194. own purposes. Let's move to these scriptures. I'm going to

  195. read from Deuteronomy, Matthew, and I'm going to turn to

  196. those Deuteronomy twenty four. Let's go to the Old Testament.

  197. We're going to look at at what the scripture says

  198. about this subject. And this subject the subject of divorce, marriages,

  199. husband and wives not getting along, husband and wife having

  200. committed to each other and then quote changing their mind.

  201. This is something that's been well, I'll get to a

  202. statement about that. But remember sin came into the equation.

  203. I mean, dude, only five and I want her to

  204. be In twenty four Deuteronomy twenty four, first five verses

  205. when a man hath taken a wife and married her,

  206. and it come to pass that she find no favor

  207. in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her,

  208. then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and

  209. give it in her hand, and send her out of

  210. his house. And when she has departed out of his house,

  211. she may go and be another man's wife. And if

  212. the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill

  213. of divorcement and giveth it to her hand it in

  214. her hand, and sendeth her out of his house. Or

  215. if the latter husband die, which took her to be

  216. his wife, her former husband which sent her away, may

  217. not take her again to be his wife. After that

  218. she is defiled, for that is abomination before the Lord.

  219. And that shall not cause the land to sin, which

  220. the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. When

  221. a man hath taking a new wife, he shall not

  222. go out to war, neither shall be charged with any business,

  223. but shall be free at home one year, and shall

  224. cheer up his wife which he has taken. Some so

  225. some straight direct over the front directives here the law.

  226. We don't understand all of the the situations. And I guess.

  227. I guess the reality is that in there there were

  228. times in history where where for a man, for a

  229. woman to be outside of the protection of her father

  230. or her husband, put her in a very vulnerable situation,

  231. possibly even possibly even a deadly situation. Romans or Deuteronomy

  232. twenty two back up two chapters, a few more versus

  233. here twenty two Verses twenty two through twenty four. This

  234. is law concerning well. The capital punishment comes comes into

  235. play here. If a man be found lying with a

  236. woman married to an husband, then then they shall both

  237. of them die, both the man that lay with the

  238. woman and the woman. So shalt thou put away evil

  239. from Israel. If a damsel that is a virgin be

  240. betrothed into an husband, and a man find her in

  241. the city and lie with her, then you shall bring

  242. them both out under the gate of the city, and

  243. you shall stone them with stones, that they die, the

  244. damsel because she cried not being in the city, and

  245. the man because he hath humbled his neighbor's wife. So

  246. thou shalt put evil, evil, put away evil from among you.

  247. Not pretty pictures, not a nice not a nice thing

  248. at all. And I find it a little bit just intellectually.

  249. I find it interesting today, and so I was gonna

  250. throw this thought out there at some point or this question.

  251. Do you think Jesus time was especially Was this an

  252. especially sensitive issue then? Was it a defining issue of

  253. his day? Apparently it's also defining issue today. There are

  254. many people who who profess Christianity in this country who

  255. don't much like what Jesus had to say about this subject,

  256. and I find it intriguing or interesting. These these folks

  257. referred back to the Law of Moses and someone and

  258. the justification for the justification used in some Christian circles

  259. today harks back to the law of Moses. But I

  260. never hear of anyone advocating for the full dose of

  261. moses law, and that includes capital punishment. Moving on, turn

  262. to Matthew nineteen. Matthew nineteen is is Matthew's Matthew's recording

  263. of I believe the same exchange Matthew nineteen, Verses one

  264. through twelve explain this way. Matthew was a personal attendant

  265. of Jesus, he would have been closer, probably recorded a

  266. little more mark where we started that that he was

  267. probably writing recording things secondhand or from a little from

  268. a slightly different vantage point. So let's read this Matthew nineteen,

  269. verses one through twelve. Another well, Jesus, Jesus close close disciple,

  270. wrote this, and it came to pass as the verse

  271. one of nineteen, that when Jesus had finished these sayings,

  272. he departed from Galilee and came into the coast of Judea,

  273. beyond Jordan, and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them. There.

  274. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, saying, unto him,

  275. is it lawful for a man to put away his wife?

  276. For every cause? And he answered and said, unto them,

  277. have you not read that he which made them at

  278. the beginning made them male and female? And said, for

  279. this cause, shall I man leave father and mother, and

  280. shall cleave to his wife, and they twain shall be

  281. one flesh. Wherefore they are no more twain but one flesh.

  282. What therefore God hath joined together? Let not man put asunder?

  283. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to

  284. give a writing of divorcement and to put her away?

  285. He saith unto them, Moses, because of the hardness of

  286. your hearts, suffered you to put away your wives. But

  287. from the beginning it was not so. And I say

  288. unto you, whosoever shall put away his wife, except it

  289. be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery. And

  290. whoso marrieth her which has put away, doth commit adultery.

  291. His disciples say unto him, if the case of the

  292. man be so with his wife, is not good to marry.

  293. But he said unto them. All men cannot receive this saying,

  294. save they to whom it is given. For there are

  295. some eunuchs which were so born from their mother's womb,

  296. and there are some eunuchs which were made eunuchs of men,

  297. and there be eunuchs which have been made themselves eunuchs.

  298. For the Kingdom of Heaven's sake. He that is able

  299. to receive it, let him receive it. Words of Christ

  300. that were as stressful, you could say, is as stressful

  301. to those disciples as they are to us today. Luke

  302. sixteen eighteen. Doctor Luke, here I suppose with his doctor's

  303. handwriting he got this condensed down into a single verse.

  304. Luke sixteen eighteen. Who's whoever puteth away his wife? And

  305. marrieth an other committeth adultery. And whosoever marrieth her that

  306. is put away from her husband committeth adultery. That is that,

  307. That is what Luke recorded of Jesus words. Matthew five

  308. turned to that chapter, and Matthew five is one of

  309. the is the sermon on the Mount where Jesus is talking, talking, preaching,

  310. teaching to these people and introducing something new, introducing what

  311. I'm gonna call upgrades. You've heard that has been said

  312. by them of old time. But I say unto you,

  313. Jesus said that a number of times. Verses thirty one

  314. is where Jesus addresses this. Actually, if you jump back

  315. to verse twenty seven, you've heard, but you've heard that

  316. it was said by them of old time. Now shall

  317. not committed altery. But I say unto you. You know

  318. that Jesus took it from the from the purely physical definition,

  319. brought it to a spiritual brought it to a sirittual

  320. application as well. But I say unto you that whosoever

  321. looketh on a woman to loss after her hath committed

  322. adultery with her already in his heart. You see the

  323. upgrades or the change. He also said that in verse well,

  324. verse twenty, verse twenty, he said that accept your righteousness

  325. shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you

  326. shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

  327. So Jesus was talking here to a group of people

  328. with a point of reference and a point of reference

  329. that he said, and know that one that's not good enough.

  330. Matthew five thirty one. It hath been said, whosoever shall

  331. put away his wife, let him give her a writing

  332. of divorcement. But I say unto you that who whoever

  333. shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication,

  334. causeth her to commit adultery. Whosoever shall marry her that

  335. is divorced, committeth adultery. Very direct, very direct teaching. And

  336. it's nestled here in the middle of in the middle

  337. of this chapter, that that we or this sermon that

  338. we use, and we love, and we love your enemies,

  339. bless them that curse you. The teachings of non resistance.

  340. There's there's there's a lot. There's there's lots, including the

  341. Lord's prayer. But back to this subject of divorce, one more,

  342. one more reference. Back up about five pages in your

  343. Bible to Malachi, the prophet Malachaia two Malachaia two, verse

  344. beginning of the verse fourteen. So this is this is

  345. from this is a prophet writing from four hundred and

  346. four hundred and twenty five years before Jesus was teaching,

  347. approximately verse thirteen. You know, he's talking about the problem

  348. of Judah, Judah and Israel dealing treacherously. They're not playing fair,

  349. they're not doing it right. And you've come here and

  350. you've covered the altar of the Lord with tears, with

  351. weeping this verse thirteen, with crying. You're in a position

  352. where God's not not noticing the tears, the tears on

  353. the altar. He's not looking at your offering anymore. He's

  354. not receiving it with goodwill at your hand. Yet ye say, wherefore,

  355. or why wherefore? Verse fourteen. Because the Lord hath been

  356. witnessed between thee and the wife of thy youth, against

  357. whom thou hast dealt treacherously. Yet is she thy companion

  358. and the wife of thy covenant? And did not he

  359. make one? Had he the residue of spirit? And wherefore

  360. one that he might seek a godly seed therefore take

  361. heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against

  362. the wife of his youth. For the Lord, the God

  363. of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away, for one

  364. covereth violence with his garment, saith the Lord of Hosts. Therefore,

  365. take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

  366. Ye have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet ye say,

  367. wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, everyone that

  368. doeth evil is good in the sight of the Lord,

  369. and he delighteth in them. Or where is the God

  370. of judgment? He asked the question, and then he answers

  371. it you're making him tired. But verse fifteen, let none

  372. deal treacherously. And that word that phrase is also translated

  373. in the dealing treacherously is a lot the same phrase

  374. as as putting away or what we would what we

  375. would call divorce the wife of his youth, the wife

  376. of his youth, generally referring to the to the first

  377. the first wife. Why why does God set it up

  378. that way? And I'm not going to go into a

  379. lot of that, but that's that's where your mind, your

  380. mind goes, and we we know, we know, we can

  381. look around us in the world and see the problems,

  382. the the well, the downside. So let's look at let's

  383. continue withus, continue looking at scripture here and and flip

  384. it a little bit to marriage and what it symbolizes.

  385. I couldn't. I couldn't hardly just stay with the stay

  386. with the negative. From the beginning. It was not so

  387. that in Jesus mind, and I think in his disciples

  388. mind and in the Church's mind, in our mind, we

  389. know what God's ideal is, and that is that is

  390. one man, one woman until death. Turned to Ephesians five,

  391. I'm gonna read there, We're gonna we're gonna read these

  392. passages that that that demonstrate or describe marriage and what

  393. it symbolizes Ephesians five, twenty eight. If you would have

  394. asked Jesus, if if part of the question for Jesus

  395. would have been, what does marriage symbolize? When when these

  396. Pharisees asked, is that you see to us? To me, well,

  397. the symbology or the symbols or the what what marriage

  398. makes us think of? I mean, we have we have

  399. these these words verse thirty two. But this is a

  400. great mystery. But I speak concerning Christ in the church.

  401. One of the apostles here wrote and put this together

  402. to say, Yeah, that's that's what that that's what that

  403. looks like. Jesus didn't have that. Jesus didn't have that comeback.

  404. So what did it symbolize in Jesus day? What did

  405. marriage symbolize? Well, just I'll just leave you hanging with

  406. that question a little bit. How would you have described

  407. it without the rest of these epistols. But let's let's

  408. read this Ephesians five twenty eight. So men so ought

  409. men to love their own their wives as their own bodies.

  410. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man

  411. ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourish and cherish

  412. with it, even as the Lord of the Church. For

  413. we are members of his body, of his flesh, and

  414. of his bones. For this man cause shall a man

  415. leave his father and mother, and she'll be joined unto

  416. his wife, and they too shall be one flesh. This

  417. is a great mystery, But I speak concerning Christ and

  418. the Church. Nevertheless, let everyone of you, in particular so

  419. love his wife even as himself. And the wife see

  420. that she reverends her husband. That well, it's actually just

  421. just before that in this is it. In another passage

  422. we have the picture of Christ. Christ and sacrifice comes

  423. comes into into into mind, into our pictures, into our

  424. mental images, marriage and marriage and its symbols and its

  425. symbols in Jeremiah, in the Old Testament, Isaiah and Jeremiah.

  426. We're not going to turn to those passages and read them.

  427. But this this concept of of Israel, the nation Israel

  428. or Israel, and Judah and and the and God his

  429. relationship with them. He they paint that in the in

  430. the you know, in a marriage type picture, because they

  431. were no longer faithful to God, they were no longer

  432. faithful to their promises. They they were the ones who

  433. were ditching God for a different God. He at one

  434. point he called them a backsliding heifer, which is a whole,

  435. a whole row of a whole, a whole batch of

  436. pictures come into my mind having been on steep enough

  437. country trying to chase cattle and seeing a full grown

  438. cow sliding backwards down a hill. It's, I mean, the

  439. way cow's hoofs are made. They they jab in and

  440. when they're going up a hill, their legs are angled back.

  441. But at once if if they start sliding down a

  442. steep slope. A cow has a very poor set of brakes. Anyway,

  443. that's that was that was the picture God had of

  444. of Israel in that in that stage in that time

  445. Jeremiah three. You can read that back to the question

  446. why why divorce? I'm gonna read you a a a

  447. few sentences here that I picked out of a commentary.

  448. It says termination of the marriage relationship is caused not

  449. by God but by sin that entered the world after

  450. Genesis two. Death itself, which terminates marriage, came by Adam sin.

  451. Because of sin, divorce Arose Moses sought to regulate it.

  452. Divorce is not instant or ordained by God. Rather, it

  453. is generated by sin and is contrary to God's ideal

  454. for marriage. But I believe in my looking at this,

  455. thinking about that question of what would Jesus if, if

  456. Jesus didn't have the type in his mind, marriage is

  457. a relationship of Christ of the Church. I think marriage

  458. and I read this this as a quote somewhere I

  459. enlarged it a little bit. But marriage, marriages in some

  460. ways is the original type or representation of the of

  461. the relationship that God wants with each one of you.

  462. God wanted a relationship with man. And if you think

  463. about that, the what God was looking for in a

  464. relationship with man. He set up man and his wife

  465. to operate in that type of a in that type

  466. of a relationship, a relationship of of give and take,

  467. of physical communication, mental, spiritual. You can say one in

  468. one in body one and soul one in mind. In

  469. other words, the two become one. Is how he finally

  470. it was it was phrased. But that's what God wants

  471. with you as well. And an earthly marriage. Yes, there's

  472. there's problems, and there's difficulties, and our relationship with God

  473. takes work, takes constant effort, takes constant attention to to

  474. maintain a relationship with God. It's that way in marriage

  475. as well. But an earthly marriage that is characterized by

  476. give and take, love, harmony, unselfishness, the golden rule. Do

  477. you even so to them whatsoever you would that men

  478. should do to you. If that's actually happening, it will

  479. be a representation of the of the relationship that God

  480. wishes to have with you. And when you bring into

  481. that that that concept, the concept of adultery. Adultery is

  482. to take this relationship and breaks it. Adultery, the ultimate,

  483. the ultimate selfishness will necessarily break the relationship. And that's

  484. that that that applies to a relationship with God or

  485. espousal relationship. A few verses here on practical living. First Corinthians.

  486. So these Christians from two thousand years ago, they they

  487. had real life to deal with as well. First Corinthians seven.

  488. Read you what the apostle Paul wrote to these to

  489. a church concerning concern this. And this is one of

  490. these neat passages where he kind of moves from what

  491. the Lord commands to what he would like to see,

  492. back and forth. One Corinthians seven, verse seven. For I

  493. would that all men were even as I myself. But

  494. every man hath his proper gift of God. One after

  495. this matter or another after that. I say therefore to

  496. the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if

  497. they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain,

  498. let them marry, For it is better to marry than

  499. to burn. And unto the married I command yet not I,

  500. but the Lord, let not the wife depart from her husband.

  501. But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or

  502. be reconciled to her husband, and let not the husband

  503. put away his wife. But do the rest speak I

  504. not the Lord. If any brother have a wife that

  505. believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him,

  506. let him not put her away. And the woman which

  507. hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be

  508. pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.

  509. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and

  510. the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband. Else were

  511. your children unclean? But now are they holy? But if

  512. the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or sister

  513. is not under bondage in such cases. But God hath

  514. called us to peace. For what knowest thou, o wife,

  515. whether thou shalt save thy husband? Or how knowest thou,

  516. o man, whether thou shalt save thy wife? But as

  517. God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath

  518. called everyone, so let him walk, and so I so

  519. ordain I in all churches. Fossil Paul just simply giving

  520. his practical advice. Do your best to work it out. No,

  521. you don't have to, You don't have to leave just

  522. because there's a difference of belief. Conversion. Conversion may conversion,

  523. may happen, may come of that Galatians five. Let's turn

  524. to that one Galatians five fourteen, Latians five fourteen to

  525. twenty one. Wherefore he saith awake, thou that sleepest, and

  526. arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

  527. See then that ye walk circumspectully, not as fools, but

  528. as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

  529. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will

  530. of the Lord is me not drunk with wine where

  531. is excess, but be filled with a spirit, speaking to

  532. yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and

  533. making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks

  534. always for all things unto God and the Father, in

  535. the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting yourselves one

  536. to another in the fear of God. And I'm an Ephesians,

  537. not Galatians. That's what that's where I'm wrong, because we've

  538. been here Galatians five. Though it's Galatians five fourteen some

  539. of the same same thoughts. Walk in the spirit, not

  540. in the flesh. For all the law, for all the

  541. law is fulfilled in one word. Even in this, thou

  542. shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. But if you bite

  543. and devour one another, take heed that you be not

  544. consumed one of another. This I say, then, walk in

  545. the spirit. You shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

  546. For the flesh lusted against the spirit, and the spirit

  547. against the flesh. And these are contrary the one to

  548. the other, so that you cannot do the things that

  549. you would. But if you be led of the spirit,

  550. you are not under the law. Now, the works of

  551. the flesh are manifests. Which are these relatry, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strifes, seditions, heresies, envyings, murderers, drunkenness, revelings,

  552. and the such like of which I tell you before,

  553. as I have told you in time past, that they

  554. which do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of

  555. God that instruction to walk after the spirit. Not after

  556. this long and negative list talking about thinking about this

  557. subject of divorce and the related word adultery, the fact

  558. of the matter is we we look at that and say, well, no,

  559. I want I want nothing to do with that. But

  560. thankfully we can, we can know the sin of that,

  561. these sins can indeed be forgiven. I've got a funny

  562. little question written down here. I I read through these

  563. these verses. We're we're, we're somewhat programmed to think of

  564. some sins as as bigger than other sins, emulations, wrath, strifes,

  565. seditions that's put in the same list as adult refornication, uncleanness,

  566. with the same penalty. You don't you don't get to

  567. inherit the kingdom of God. But the upside continue reading

  568. there with me verse twenty two. But the fruit of

  569. the spirit, this is the converse side. This, this is

  570. the side that makes that makes life work. But the

  571. fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

  572. Against such there is no law. And they that are

  573. Christ have crucified the flesh with the affections and loss.

  574. If we live in the spirit, let us also walk

  575. in the spirit. Let us not be desirous of vainglory,

  576. provoking one another, envying one another. So in closing, as

  577. you think about these, these these concepts, the question to Jesus,

  578. can we do what we want? Can can can we

  579. just can we just simply have it our way? We

  580. know we we We see in society around us, the

  581. emotional cost of broken homes, the damage to children, the

  582. damage to society, the completely decimated picture of the relationship

  583. that God wishes to have with you. But remember the

  584. fruit of the spirit. The Either or Christ have crucified

  585. the flesh, and they can walk in the spirit. I'm

  586. thankful that God gives us the power and the grace

  587. to do that. Let's have a clothing song, HM.
