Blessing - The Mouth of God

I want to jump in today's message.

We've been talking about the blessing.

Can you say blessing this morning?

Blessing.

The blessing that has been provided for you and I as we walk under the leading of the Almighty God.

We are a blessed people of God.

We are a blessed people of God.

As we surrender our lives over to the Lord, we realize He has already provided for us major blessings.

And although we might be unaware, if we realize it, if we recognize those blessings that are around us, it could really change the way we take on every situation, even the loss of a loved one.

We've been looking closer into Moses, and Moses with his encounter with God at the Burning Bush.

Many of you know the story.

And it's here at the burning bush that God reveals to Moses the blessings that have been provided for him that will allow him to take on his mission full-on in leading the Israelites out of Egypt into the promised land.

I believe it's important for us to realize these blessings because God has provided the same blessings for you and I this morning.

Blessings for you and I to be victorious.

Can you say victorious?

Victorious in the mission that God has placed you and I on.

He's placed us on a mission, and there's many more blessings he wants for you to receive as you journey through life.

The first blessing God revealed to Moses, and we saw this through scripture, the blessing that God revealed to Moses during their encounter is the presence of God.

Say the presence of God.

Did you know that God is with you wherever you go?

Did you know that God is with you wherever you go?

Did you know that you're not alone?

Although it might seem like that.

If you turn to your left and to your right, or you look up and all around, you realize God is in the room.

And although Moses didn't realize it at first, and many times we fail at it ourselves to realize God promises that He is with us everywhere that we go.

And when we realize this simple fact, I believe our attitude begins to change.

When you realize that God is with you wherever you go, it's an attitude changer.

Our confidence begins to change a little bit.

Why?

Because the one that parted the Red Sea, the one that fed 5,000 people with only five loaves and a few fish, we realize when God is in the room, we know that good things are on their way.

Amen.

The second blessing we that was revealed to Moses as he stood by the burning bush was the name of God.

Can you say the name of God?

The name of God.

A gift given to Moses that still stands today is the name of our Almighty God.

We see David defeating a giant with a slingshot in what?

The name of the Lord.

I come to you in the name of the Lord.

We see Jesus Christ Himself reminding us that we, if we ask anything in his name, it will be given unto us.

The name of God is power, and when you recognize this power, you will be name-dropping God's name wherever you go.

I'm not saying misusing God's name, but name-dropping God's name.

God, you're in this.

God, you got this.

God, you are with me even today.

I proclaim it, God.

What your word says, I say it in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

You'll be name-dropping God's name in every situation and expecting the impossible to unfold.

Last week we talked about the third blessing given to Moses, and that was what?

The hand of God.

Can you say that with me this morning?

The hand of God.

And as we notice, when the hand of God comes upon you, it doesn't matter what is in your hands, whether it's a staff or whether it's nothing at all, when the hand of God is at work, whatever is in your hands can become the most powerful tool to accomplish the work of the Lord.

Moses' staff from turning from a serpent to being used to part the Red Sea, just a piece of wood.

Could you imagine?

Something so insignificant, yet brought forth so much fruit.

And the staff isn't the only thing we see God using to do the impossible.

God can use slingshots.

God can use even big mouths.

Yeah, how many got a big mouth here?

Yeah, I got one too.

God can use your big mouth.

God can use pennies to bring glory and honor to his name.

When you surrender everything over to the Lord and watch, you allow his hands to take over and accomplish more than your hands ever could.

Even down to Jesus Christ, we see the hands of God accomplishing so much more, those healing hands of Jesus Christ would be nailed to a cross, still accomplishing so much more than our hands ever could.

That's the hand of our God.

When Moses allows the hand of God to rest upon him, Moses' hands and whatever is in them become the most powerful tool to accomplish the work of the Lord.

Would you allow your hands to be used for the Lord?

Would you allow your hands to be used by God the same way?

Would you allow his hand to rest upon you and come along with your hands to enjoy all the blessings that he has in store for you?

Amen.

Amen.

This morning we continue to uncover the blessings given to Moses in this encounter.

And we're going to turn to Exodus 4 this morning in our Bible.

And we see although Moses has been given the presence of God, Moses has been given the name of God, Moses has even been given the hand of God.

Yet Moses still feels unequipped for the task.

Unequipped for the task that the Lord has set him on.

In Exodus 4, verse 10, it says, This, then Moses said to the Lord, Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since you have spoken to your servant.

Exodus 4:10

Moses says, For I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.

This is Moses.

Have you ever felt the way that Moses is feeling?

Have you ever felt that way?

Opportunity avails itself.

God opens the door, yet you feel inadequate for the role.

Inadequate, it's just not for me.

It's not something that I'm used to.

That sounds like something somebody else could do.

Save me for the easier jobs, God.

Save me for the roles that I'm more comfortable with.

Moses, so uncomfortable in taking on this position, tries to find one more way to get out of it.

So he says, Listen, God, I got it.

You got a big plan for me.

I know you equip me with all those things, but listen, I'm just not a good speaker.

I'm not good at it.

Some would suggest he even had a speech impediment.

He's just not a good fit for the job.

Have you ever felt that way?

If we go over to verse 11, but the Lord said to him, and this is powerful, and I want you to watch this this morning.

The Lord said to him, Who has made the human mouth?

Or who makes anyone unable to speak or deaf or able to see or blind?

Is it not I, the Lord?

Now then go, and I myself will be with your mouth and instruct you in what you are to say.

Praise the Lord.

God says to Moses, Are you kidding me?

Maybe not in the Rhode Island accent that I just did it, but in his own way.

Are you kidding me, Moses?

You do realize that I created that mouth.

I created that mouth.

Not only God says this, I myself will be with your mouth and instruct you in what you are to say.

This morning, we uncover the fourth blessing given to Moses, and that is the mouth of God.

Can you say that with me this morning?

The mouth of God.

The mouth of God.

If we look back at the beginning of your Bible, and we look back at the book of Genesis, we see in the book of Genesis what the mouth of God can do.

Watch this.

In Genesis 1, 1 through 3.

This is right at the beginning.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, and the earth was a formless and desolate emptiness, and darkness was over the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

Then God said, What?

Let there be light, and there was light.

Formless, desolate emptiness.

What does God do?

He speaks.

Then God said it, and there was light.

If you continue to read through Genesis 1, it says, and God said, and God said, and God said, and God said, and God said, everything that you and I see around us, God spoke into existence.

That's the power of the mouth of God.

When the mouth of God is at work, things begin to happen.

I can't say that much for our big mouths.

I know when we say a bunch of things with our big mouths, nothing happens.

Or we say a bunch of things with our big mouths and a bunch of bad things happen.

Yet when God speaks, life happens.

Light happens.

The desolate, the emptiness begins to get filled up with the beauty of God's creation.

We see in Genesis that not only does God speak things into existence, but watch this in Genesis chapter 2, verse 7, it says, Then the Lord formed the man of dust from the ground.

Genesis 2:7

And watch, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.

And the man became a living person.

Listen, I didn't know if you realized this morning, but you came to a history class because this is your history.

This is your history.

This is going back all the way to the beginning.

Where God formed you and breathed life into you.

Praise the Lord.

God speaks, God breathes.

When the mouth of God is at work, unimaginable things begin to happen.

I want us to turn over to Psalm chapter 33 and watch what the psalmist says.

Psalms 33 · chapter mention

This is starting in verse 6.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all the lights.

He gathers the waters of the deep together as a heap.

He puts the depths in storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the Lord.

Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

For he spoke and it was done.

He commanded and it stood firm.

God says to Moses, I will be with your mouth.

I will be with your mouth and instruct you in what you are to say.

Moses has been given the very mouth of God, and he still tries to bow out.

Watch this in Exodus 4, chap verse 13.

It says, But he said, Moses, please, Lord, now send the messenger by whomever you will.

Then the anger of the Lord burned against Moses, and he said, Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite?

I know that he speaks fluently, and moreover, behold, he is coming out to meet you when he sees you, he will be overjoyed.

So you are to speak to him and put the words in his mouth, and I will be with your mouth and his mouth and will instruct you in what you are to do.

He shall speak for you to the people, and he will be as a mouth for you, and you will be as God to him, and you shall take in your hand this staff with which you shall perform the signs.

God is not satisfied with Moses' excuses.

So God says, Fine, Moses, you feel unequipped, you don't think you can accomplish the task.

So you know what I'm gonna do, Moses?

I'm gonna give you a teammate.

I'm gonna give you a teammate.

How many are glad this morning that you have a teammate?

Does anyone have a teammate this morning?

If you have a spouse in the room, I want you to turn to them and say, I'm happy you're my teammate.

If you don't have a spouse, I want you to turn to whoever's sitting next to you.

And I want you to say, I'm happy you're my teammate.

Doesn't have to be your spouse to be a teammate.

Amen.

God knows that we can't do it alone.

God knows, just like he provided a partner for Adam and a teammate for Moses, we need each other.

We need each other to help one another in carrying out the mission he has set for us.

We need each other.

Not only is he with us wherever we go, but he has provided brothers and sisters and members of one body who are able to help us out in the areas that we might fall short.

I don't know if you've met somebody that can do absolutely everything, except for Karen.

But most of the time we fall short and we need somebody else.

We need a teammate.

God says to Moses that he will be with be with both Moses' mouth and with Aaron's mouth, as Moses speaks the word from God to Aaron.

As God would speak to Moses, so Moses would speak to Aaron to help in leading the Israelites out of bondage into the promised land.

If you read on through the story of Moses and Pharaoh, the mouth of God would become the driving force that would point the Israelites to God and lead the Israelites out of captivity.

As Moses and Aaron would stand before Pharaoh, God would provide the words to Moses, Moses would give them to Aaron, and they would speak boldly.

It would be words that came from the mouth of God that would accomplish great things for God's people.

Listen, the only words that Moses could come up with was how somebody else was better fit for the job.

All Moses could say with his own words was how insignificant he was.

Yet when Moses started to use the words that flowed from the mouth of God, he became a different person.

When Moses started to use the words that flowed from the mouth of God, he became a leader.

Moses became an actual useful tool in the plan of the Almighty God.

Moses watched as the mouth of God unfolded before his eyes.

As Moses spoke the words that were given to him.

From Moses' mouth, yes, words were spoken, but from the mouth of God they came.

After Moses reads the Ten Commandments to the Israelites, as they prepare fast forward to enter into the promised land.

They've already exited Egypt, they've wandered through the wilderness, and Moses says this a realization in Deuteronomy 8:3.

Deuteronomy 8:3

And you need to hear this this morning.

This is the words of Moses, sharing what he has learned in his journey.

And he humbled you and let you go hungry and fed you with manna, and you did not know, nor did your fathers know, in order to make you understand that the man shall not live on bread alone, but man shall live on everything that comes out of the mouth of the Lord.

I'm gonna say it again.

But man shall live on everything that comes out of the mouth of the Lord.

Listen, this is what seasoned Moses shared.

This is what seasoned Moses felt it important to share to the Israelite people.

Hey, I'm terrible at speaking.

I don't know how I'm gonna get this job done.

But I realized in my tenure, people of God, Moses says, man shall not live by bread alone, but we we live by the words that are coming out of the mouth of God.

We live by the words that are coming out of the mouth of God.

Moses realized the blessing that has been provided for each of us, and that is the mouth of God, because out of the mouth of God he speaks life.

The mouth of God breathes.

The mouth of God has spoken the word of God, which has been written down and passed down through generations to generations to generations and continues to transform people.

That word of God that proceeded out of the mouth of God has been passed down to transform somebody like you and I, just made out of dirt, to transform the world around us.

I want to read an excerpt from Ezekiel chapter 37.

Ezekiel 37 · chapter mention

Ezekiel, a prophet of God, had a vision, and I want you to watch the mouth of God unfold and the power that takes place here.

Ezekiel 37, starting in verse 1, it says, Watch, the hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord, and he set me down in the middle of the valley, and it was full of bones, and he had me pass among them all around, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry.

Then he said to me, Son of man, can these bones live?

And I answered, Lord God, you yourself know.

Again he said to me, Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, You dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

This is what the Lord says to these bones, Behold, I am going to make breath enter you so that you may come to life.

And I will attach tendons to you and make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin, and put breath in you so that you may come to life, and you will know that I am the Lord.

So I prophesied as I was commanded.

And as I prophesied, there was a loud noise, and behold, a rattling.

And the bones came together, bone to its bone.

And I looked, and behold, tendons were on them, and flesh grew, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

Then he said to me, Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, the Lord God says this, come from the four winds, breath, and breathe on these slain, so they would come to life.

So I prophesied as he commanded me.

And the breath entered them.

And they came to life and stood on their feet in an exceedingly great army.

Praise the Lord.

In the valley of dry bones.

A vision given to Ezekiel.

God instructs Ezekiel to speak to the dry bones.

Not only does he instruct him to speak, but God gives Ezekiel the words to speak to these dry bones.

You dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

Behold, I am going to make breath enter you so that you may come to life.

From the mouth of God flows power.

From the mouth of God flows life.

People of God.

And just like Moses, and just like Ezekiel, if not only do we apply it to our lives, but if we would actually begin to speak those words, I believe we could see some amazing things unfold before our eyes.

If we could truly take what comes from the mouth of God, his holy word, that holy Bible that you hold in your hand, that holy Bible that I read on my phone, if we could take the word of God that proceeded from the mouth of God, that has been written down for you and I.

And watch, we begin to memorize it.

We begin to meditate on it.

If we were to take the word of God and not only memorize it, meditate it, but actually let it flow from our mouths.

Those prayers that you've been praying for for a long time, I believe you're gonna see them answered like never before.

Praise the Lord.

I believe if we would allow the words of God to come from our mouths, we would even begin to see the dry bones come to life.

The dry bones that maybe they've been dead too long, they've been just sitting around doing nothing, yet God has plans for them.

God wants to make them into an exceedingly great army.

But He needs you, He needs somebody like Moses, He needs somebody like Ezekiel.

Yeah, you're unfit for the job.

I know.

I was too.

We all are.

But yet God equips us.

God equips us with his presence.

God equips us with his hand.

God equips us, God equips us with his mouth, and that he speaks the words to us that we can open up his word and receive them and let them be our tool to actually bring change.

Listen, I've seen enough people come up with their own ideas of how they're gonna make the world better, and somehow we just end up in the same place.

But yet when we take God's words and we put them to work, we see hope, we see joy, we see even in a hospital emergency room, I see tears of joy.

I hear words like, I'm jealous that our sister's going home to be with the Lord.

Why?

Because that's the words that proceed out of the mouth of God.

So many promises, words of life, words of hope.

I love what it says in Hebrews chapter 4, verse 12.

Hebrews 4:12

It says, For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of the soul and the spirit of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

This morning, God's what God wants you to realize that listen, He's already given you another blessing.

You might be waiting on these other blessings that you have counted in your mind, yet one is sitting right at your bedside, one is literally in your hands, checking the time.

And that's the word of God.

The word of God that proceedeth out of what?

The mouth of God.

Let the words that come from it, let it transform you this morning.

Let the breath that flows from the mouth of God, just like it gave breath to Adam.

Let the Spirit of God move through you.

Let Him bring life to the dry bones this morning.

Let His Spirit fill you to the overflow.

It says in Isaiah 55, 11, and I want you to say this one with me.

So will my word be which goes out of my mouth.

It will not return to me empty without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the purpose for which I send it.

Praise the Lord.

His word will go forth and it will not return void, but it will accomplish to where it was sent.

This morning, my prayer is for you.

That God will give you a new revelation of his word, that God will give you a new revelation of his mouth and the power that flows from it.

That God would give you a new revelation that, hey, there's a blessing in store for me.

There's a blessing in store for my family.

There's a blessing in store for my workplace.

There's something that the Lord has blessed me with that is going to change this year and bring forth so much fruit and so much joy.

And that is the word of God, the mouth of God.

We ask that we would have a new revelation of your word.

God, that when we open it up, that we would be so excited, that we would look forward to opening it up to see what's next.

God, realizing, like we said before, that you're in the room with us.

The author of this book that we're opening is literally over our shoulder, explaining and giving us understanding.

God, I pray that we would have a new revelation of the mouth of God.

God, and that breath flows from the mouth of God, and that your spirit flows and desires to fill us up to the overflow, God, taking these dry bones and turning them into an exceeding army.

God, all the plans that you have for us, plans like you have for Moses, plans like you have for David.

God, if we would be but willing to surrender everything over to you, God.

We thank you for the mouth, the mouth of God that continues to go forth and speak life into every situation.

Equip us with your word, equip us with your spirit.

We thank you when we praise you.

In Jesus' name we pray.
