We're actually going to be 1214 and 15 as we go through.
-
We're going to go through just the last week Jesus was here
-
before, before the cross or before the tomb.
-
But we're going to start off in Psalm 22 and we're just going to
-
read a little bit of it starting in verse 6.
-
But I am warm and no man. A reproach of men and despised
-
by the people. All those who see me ridicule
-
me. Those who shoot out the lip,
-
they shake the head, shake the head, saying he trusted in the
-
Lord, let him rescue him, let him deliver him, since he
-
delights in him. But you are he who took me out
-
of the womb. You made me trust while on my
-
mother's breast. I was cast upon you from birth.
-
From my mother's womb you have been my God.
-
Be not far from me, for trouble is near, for there is none to
-
help me. Many bowls have surrounded me.
-
Strong bowls of Bashan have encircled me.
-
They they gape at me with their mouths like raging and roaring
-
lions. I am poured out like water and
-
all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, It has
-
melted within me. My strength is dried up like a
-
pot. Sure, sure.
-
And my tongue clings to my jaws. You have brought me to the dust
-
of death. For dogs have surrounded me.
-
The congregation of the wicked hasn't closed me.
-
They pierced my hands and my feet.
-
I can count all my bones. They look and stare at me.
-
They divide my garments among them.
-
And for my clothes they cast lots.
-
And Lord, I just once again just come before you Lord, and just
-
be here tonight, be here with each and every one of us.
-
Lord, fill us with your spirit. Speak to us.
-
Lord, if I don't, if I don't have the words to explain, Lord,
-
you can explain. Lord, mold my words.
-
Teach me, Lord, speak to everybody here.
-
And I pray this in Jesus name, Amen.
-
So Psalm 22 was written between 10,000, so basically 10 thousand
-
1040 and 1000 BC. So during David's lifetime and
-
the Romans perfected the torture of crucifixion by the time Jesus
-
was around. But it it's something the
-
Persians had used back in 519 BC.
-
But that's still 500 years after Psalm 22 was written and the
-
point of me reading that to begin with was the shadow of the
-
cross has been from the beginning, right.
-
It's something it's not something that God that Adam and
-
Eve sinned and God went well. Now here's my fix.
-
He is this has been the plan from the beginning because he
-
knew that we were going to sin. Not he didn't plan for us to
-
sin, but he knew we were going to it.
-
The my simple illustration for that is that when I, when I was
-
43 years old, I crushed my right foot because I'm an idiot.
-
I tried to jump on a on a moving truck.
-
I slipped and got my foot under the tire and God had had us sell
-
our house to get ready to go to Uganda.
-
And I kind of argued with him while we were selling it because
-
I'm like, it was 2013. We weren't moving to Uganda
-
until 2018. And he really was pressure.
-
I mean, there was I had verses and and he wanted me to sell the
-
house. So we put it on the market and
-
we sold the house and then we got it all done, you know, ready
-
to sell. And then you don't want to sell
-
it because it's like really nice to live in because it's
-
finished. And I'm like, but we could just
-
stay here. It's OK and and fine.
-
And then, you know, but we were, we, we listened and sold the
-
house and it, it finalized in June.
-
And on July 5th, I crushed my foot.
-
So I always say God didn't tell me to sell the house because we
-
were in Uganda told me to sold the house because Nick's an
-
idiot. And he knew that I wasn't going
-
to be able to take care of the house or afford the house or do
-
any of that stuff because I was going to be laid up for the
-
better part of three months. And so God that that all to say
-
that the cross was from the beginning, but that's because he
-
knew we were going to sin, not because he planned for us to
-
sin, if that makes sense. If you go to first Peter 119
-
Jesus shares a little bit or Peter shares a little bit about
-
this and it says but with the precious blood of Christ as of
-
the lamb without blemish and without spot.
-
He indeed was foreord named before the foundations of the
-
world, but manifested to these last times for you and and that
-
is from the foundations of the world from the moment God
-
created the beginning. He knew Jesus was going to the
-
cross. And so that that being said all
-
through the Old Testament, there are those places, right?
-
Exodus 12/21. We talked about this a couple
-
weeks ago. Moses called for all the elders
-
of Israel and said to them, Pick out and take lambs for yourself
-
according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb.
-
And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in blood that is
-
in the basin, and strike the lentil and the two doorposts
-
with that in the basin, with the blood with with the blood that
-
is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of
-
the door of his house until morning.
-
So the key to the Passover lamb sacrifice was to apply the
-
blood. Choosing the lamb was important.
-
Sacrificing the lamb was important.
-
Collecting the blood was important.
-
Gathering the hyssop was important.
-
But none of it mattered until you applied it to the door and
-
submitted to the power of it to save you.
-
And, and like we talked about the last time we showed you is
-
and it says strike the doorpost, right?
-
So it's we, you can see different analogies and in there
-
and they're like painting, painting on the, they're
-
painting blood on the doorpost. That is what it says.
-
It's a strike, which means dip it in the blood and hit the
-
doorpost and hit the doorpost and hit the doorpost and what
-
what does that make? That's a cross back in forget
-
how many years before Christ. But because I don't have it in
-
my notes. I don't want to say and be
-
wrong, but but then but they actually had to apply that blood
-
right? And that's for us.
-
That is that submission to Jesus, right?
-
That isn't when I when I started going to church, that's Steve
-
was going through revelation and and I believed Jesus was a real
-
person that really lived. I believed Jesus died.
-
I even believed Jesus rose on the third day.
-
I just didn't believe he was my Lord, right?
-
I wouldn't have told you that when I started going to church.
-
I'm like, I can, I can believe all those things.
-
So I'm good. And then then I started going
-
and Steve's teaching and I'm like, well, I'm glad that's not
-
me, that's bad. And then I forget what he, what
-
he was teaching in, in revelation that I went, well,
-
that's bad, that's me, that's bad.
-
And and that's when it, when I stood up and gave my life to the
-
Lord, that's when I applied the blood to my life, right.
-
So that's what's important about about the cross, right?
-
We can read about it, we can know about it.
-
We can be all kinds of intellectual knowledge, but if
-
we haven't applied it to our lives, then it does no good,
-
right? We'll jump.
-
We're we're going to go through the that last week.
-
We're going to go pretty quick, but Mark 11 first verse 12,
-
starting verse 12. Now the next day when they had
-
come from Bethany, he was hungry and seeing from afar A fig tree
-
having leaves, he went to see it.
-
Perhaps he would find something on it, see if perhaps he would
-
find something on it. When he came to to it, he found
-
nothing but leaves for it was not the season for figs.
-
In response, Jesus said to it, Let no one eat fruit from you
-
ever again. And his disciples heard it.
-
So they came to Jerusalem. And then Jesus went into the
-
temple and began to drive out those who brought, bought and
-
sold in the temple, and overturned tables of the money
-
changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
-
And he would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple.
-
Then he taught to to them, saying, Is it not written?
-
My house shall be called the House of prayer for all nations?
-
But you have made it a din of thieves, and the scribes and the
-
chiefs priests heard it and sought how they might destroy
-
him, for they feared him because all the people were astonished
-
by his teachings. When evening had come, he went
-
out of the city. So kind of funny story, right?
-
He, he condemns a a fig tree with leaves on it.
-
So Jesus, Jesus does contemn A contemn a tree that looks like
-
it should bear fruit. And then he goes to a temple, a
-
place people would assume was about God's work, and he and he
-
condemned the false appearance. So you know, God is supposed to
-
be or sorry, God's house is supposed to be a place of
-
prayer, a place of meeting with God, not a box to be checked and
-
look religious. Looking good and being bad is
-
worse than being bad or than looking bad and being bad.
-
I, I will, I will. I don't normally get political,
-
but I will do this just for I have this conversation with
-
friends. And the difference between a
-
Donald Trump or a Ronald Reagan and A and a Joe Biden or a, or a
-
Barack Obama is that and, and Trump says things that can drive
-
me nuts, right? He says he, he can say things
-
that are just obnoxious, but his policies are good, right?
-
He, he, he aligns with, with, with good values in his
-
policies. Now, Obama and Biden knew how to
-
say all the right things, but their policies drove me nuts.
-
If I'm going to get driven nuts by something, I would rather get
-
driven nuts by what's coming out of your mouth then then what is
-
actually affecting policy, right?
-
And that's really the point here Jesus is making is if you're
-
going to look good, then you had better be good.
-
If you're going to look like you have leaves on you, then you had
-
better have fruit. But if you're just looking good,
-
then then you're full of dead men's bones, right?
-
That's and at no point do we want to be.
-
I mean, I say it all the time, but we never want to be playing
-
church, right? It is the funniest thing in the
-
world that that it's something that exists.
-
It existed in Jesus's day. It exists to this day.
-
Now is that people play church now playing Muslim, OK, playing
-
Buddhist OK, playing Hindu OK playing Christian is stupid
-
because the only one you're trying to impress knows if
-
you're serious or not. Impressing me does not get you
-
into heaven, right? Impressing everybody in the room
-
does not get you into heaven. If I stand up here Sunday after
-
Sunday and I I have the best, I can speak the best and I can
-
teach the best and I don't. But if I did, but I don't have a
-
relationship with the Lord, that doesn't do me any good.
-
There's not, there is nothing there, right?
-
Having leaves and no fruit is the worst place you ever want to
-
be. You would rather be a Charlie
-
Brown Christmas tree with one piece of fruit on you then, then
-
a, then a, then a tree full of leaves with 0 fruit, right?
-
And, and Jesus here is for this, this week, right here guys,
-
Jesus comes in like a storm, right?
-
He he comes in to clear up any confusion and frustrate and and
-
really bring to conclusion that his time here and he he's going
-
to make it very clear of his position as the Son of God,
-
whether they like it or not, that that is who he says he is
-
and that is what he is and he's going to prove it to him over
-
and over again. The day before this this scene,
-
they were rebuked. They were telling him he needed
-
to rebuke the people because they were calling him God.
-
And he said and he answered them and said, if I tell you that if
-
these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out
-
right. This is they were calling him
-
Hosanna God Withers God. And whenever anybody says that
-
Jesus never called himself God, it's because they haven't ever
-
actually read the Bible right. And he is very blunt and very
-
direct throughout the process. Many the next day he comes back
-
to the temple and, and the they're, they're feisty.
-
They're feeling like they got something to say to him.
-
You know, the night, the day before, they were taught they
-
were trying to figure out how to destroy him.
-
So they confront him when he gets there, starting in verse 27
-
of Chapter 11. Then they came again to
-
Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the
-
temple, the chief priest describes the and the elders
-
came to him and they said to him, by what authority are you
-
doing these things? And who gave you the authority
-
to do these things? But Jesus answered and said to
-
them, I also will ask you one question, then answer me and I
-
will tell you by what authority I do these things.
-
The baptism of John was it from heaven or from man?
-
Answer me. And they responded or they
-
reasoned among themselves saying, if we say from heaven,
-
he will say, why then did you not believe?
-
Now can you picture this real quick?
-
It's, it's these guys all confront him and then he asked
-
him a question. And now the, the gaggle, it's
-
what I call a bunch of guys all stand around the gaggle all kind
-
of walked over here to talk to themselves, right?
-
There's we got to go, we got to go figure out our, our way of
-
doing this. And they, they go on and say,
-
but if we say it's from men, they fear the people for all
-
count John to have been a prophet indeed.
-
So they answered and said to Jesus, we do not know.
-
And Jesus answered and said to them, neither will I tell you by
-
what authority I do these things.
-
And I'm sure that I've used this illustration before.
-
It is truly one of my favorite interactions with religious
-
people and how Jesus did not come against them, right?
-
What he did was ask them a question that their mob rule was
-
not going to defend. And what I mean by that is Jesus
-
showed them their hearts. Each one of them that night or
-
the next week or after the crucifixion or years later at
-
some point was going to come to this question and go, why could
-
we not answer that question not as a group, but as an
-
individual. Why could I not if if he if
-
Jesus, if Jesus is false, then John was false.
-
And I should be able to just say that we're going to we're going
-
to stand against Jesus. I should be able to just say
-
John is false. It wasn't from God.
-
But if John was from God, then Jesus was from God.
-
And this is that point of Jesus is not looking to and this is
-
guys, I want you to hear this because Facebook or the
-
megaphone of Satan, is that what it was Telegraph, Satan's
-
Telegraph. There we go another Marcism.
-
It's a good one. But the thing in the thing on
-
Facebook, guys, is we like zingers.
-
We like we like I got I got AI can I can beat that act?
-
I can beat that argument. I need to say this, you know, I
-
call it, I call it popping off, right?
-
I can, I can respond to that. I can get I can win that because
-
that doesn't that doesn't do good that that is, that is not
-
Jesus doing that right. Jesus's plan always is to seek
-
their heart. Now that doesn't mean that at
-
any point he he folded on what was true, but his goal was their
-
salvation, right. So that brings us to a little
-
story tucked in the most important week of all history.
-
And and really this is this is where we're going to camp.
-
And it's one of those that you look at a lot went on in in that
-
last week. Jesus talked about the most
-
important commandments. He talked about who we're
-
supposed to pay taxes to. He he talked about resurrection,
-
all kinds of really big issues and then kind of random off to
-
the side, but right within that week.
-
And you'll always find that Jesus reason for when and where
-
he shares truth is, is usually on purpose.
-
Mark 1241 Now Jesus said opposite the treasury, and saw
-
how many people put money into the treasury, and many who were
-
rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and
-
threw into mites, which make a which make a quadrant.
-
So he called the disciples and to himself, and said, assuredly,
-
I say to you, that this poor widow has put in more.
-
Than all those who have given to the treasury for they all put in
-
out of their abundance. But she out of her poverty put
-
in all that she had for her whole livelihood and sacrifice
-
by definition cost us something right It it's something about
-
the Christian life and I guess I'm just getting this way
-
tonight. But if you go back to COVID, you
-
will find churches that that shut down some of them never
-
reopened people that had to go to different churches, people
-
that never walked back into a church again because suddenly
-
being a Christian cost them something.
-
And in America and I and this is a western world thing.
-
It's it's just the way that that the enemy works.
-
He's about overcorrecting on one side or the other.
-
But America it is for decades it has been a blessing to your
-
financial health to be a Christian.
-
It's a good place to network. It's, you know, you can do all
-
kinds of stuff in the church, whether or not the church is
-
doing the church just covered in leaves, no fruit, but but full
-
of a full of a whole lot of leaves.
-
And, and you watched COVID clean that out, right?
-
And not it was a, it was a time that you just got to watch
-
people decide whether it was a social club or it's where they
-
got the words of life, right. And that's that's something that
-
as you look it at the the widow, but then you get into in in
-
first Chronicles 21, verse 23, and this is David.
-
So King David called for a census, which was a sin, right?
-
He was, he wanted to know, he wanted to know how powerful he
-
was, how, how powerful Judah was or Israel was.
-
And so he called for a count of all the people, which Joab, who
-
was definitely nobody I would look up to, even tried to talk
-
him out of and say don't do this, Please don't do this.
-
Well, he did it and God prophet came and said, you know, you're
-
in trouble. Went through the whole thing and
-
P and basically in the end, you know, people were dying of a
-
plague. And David said, Lord, please
-
don't let don't don't count this against them.
-
Counted against me. I did this.
-
They didn't do this, you know, and he threw himself at the
-
mercy of the Lord and the Lord said, if you go and sacrifice,
-
do you know, go buy this red, go, go to this threshing floor.
-
Go sacrifice there. I will I'll relay it.
-
So verse 23 but Oren said to David, and this is David up
-
going to get the threshing floor.
-
He said, said to David, take it to yourself and let my Lord the
-
king do what is good in his eyes.
-
Look, I also give you the oxen and the burn off for the burnt
-
offering and the threshing floor implement for wood and the wheat
-
for grain offerings. I give it all.
-
Well, that sounds like a deal, right?
-
So now David's going to go up and do all this sacrifice and
-
ain't going to cost him anything.
-
Verse 24 The king, then King David said to Oran, no, but I
-
will surely buy it for the full price, for I will not take what
-
is yours for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings with that which
-
cost me nothing. So as believers, our
-
relationship with the Lord at minimum, at minimum should cost
-
me all that I am. And I say that all the time, but
-
that's really what it costs. It's a free gift.
-
It just cost me everything that I think I get out of the deal
-
that my eyes need to be on on Jesus and his plan for my
-
future, whatever that is, right that that that old my, my line.
-
Embrace the suck, right guys? Serving Jesus doesn't suck at
-
any point at any level. It is it is the most joy, the
-
most fun that I have ever had doing anything.
-
My flesh can get a little whiny about it there.
-
There are moments that it wants to do what it wants to do.
-
And my job is to tell my flesh that it isn't in charge anymore.
-
And it isn't that I suddenly became in charge.
-
It is reminding my flesh that Jesus sits on that throne now.
-
I don't and I and I do what he says, and that's what it costs
-
me. So if, if sacrifice cost me
-
nothing, it's pointless, right? The the whole idea of the
-
sacrificial system was that it had to be something of real
-
value to the giver it. It couldn't be something I was
-
throwing away. Anybody been to a donation yard
-
sale? Anybody had a donation yard
-
sale? I have hauled more junk to my
-
house because somebody was donating stuff for a yard sale
-
and I used to say I could just take it straight to the dump.
-
It would be quicker. But, and, and you can ask Faye
-
that I, I don't like yard sales. Like I don't like going to a
-
yard sale. I having yard sales gives me
-
hives. Like I don't like to do yard
-
sales for that reason. Because when I when, when, when
-
I'm selling something at a yard sale, look, I guarantee you if
-
you touch it, you can go home with it because it is garbage to
-
me, right? The reason that I am getting rid
-
of it is because I don't want it anymore.
-
And if you take it, then I don't have to haul it to the dump.
-
So there's no reason you don't leave with it, you know, and
-
that isn't the sacrifice Jesus is looking for, you know, he
-
isn't looking for my, he isn't looking for my extra, He's
-
looking for my awe. And So what does that have to do
-
with with why did Jesus share about the widow in that moment?
-
What is it about that? So remember that Jesus was
-
headed to the cross and we get to see in the garden of this
-
Gethsemane, which we were talking about earlier.
-
We get to see and remember Jesus is a man 100% man, 100% God.
-
And we will all understand that completely right after we get
-
there. But Jesus didn't come down with
-
a stacked deck and say, I mean, my exam a good, good example
-
that Jesus didn't pop out of Mary speaking right?
-
He had to learn how to speak. He had to learn how to walk, He
-
had to learn how to be a Carpenter.
-
Well, when he got to the cross, when he gets to this point and
-
he knows what's coming, God is outside of time.
-
Jesus at this moment is not and and he was going to get to
-
really suffer and he will really lay his life down as a
-
sacrifice. And Jesus unlike I think we can
-
understand, He understood what it was going to cost for Mark
-
1432. Then they came to the place
-
which was named Yosemite and he said to his disciples, sit here
-
a while, sit here while I pray. And he took Peter, James, and
-
John with him, and he began to be troubled and deeply
-
distressed. Then he said to them, My soul is
-
exceedingly sorrowful even to death, Stay here and watch.
-
And he went a little further and fell on the ground and prayed
-
that if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
-
And he said, ABBA, father, all things are possible for you.
-
Take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, not what I will,
-
but what you will. So this is Jesus from the
-
foundations of the earth. This moment was coming and at
-
this moment His desire was to not do it.
-
Now His stronger was desire was to submit and to and to be
-
willing to be that sacrifice. So you guys got to remember that
-
Jesus was around 33 years old at this point, but he had been here
-
since before the foundations of the earth and him and the Father
-
had been together. Now I don't want to get weird.
-
The Trinity is never separated, they are always together.
-
But Jesus understood there was going to become a moment that he
-
was going to experience something that no other being
-
had ever experienced. All the sin of all time of the
-
whole world all at once. And we, I know the guilt of my
-
sin, but all the sin, that's that's all the sin, guys, that's
-
the grossest stuff you can come up with to the, the
-
concentration camps, all the sin.
-
And I would love to say that we've gotten more bloody than
-
they were back in the in these days.
-
But all the sin and he understood what what that was
-
going to take. And Jesus was going to feel the
-
forsakenness because of dirt sin.
-
And Even so, if you look at the widow and David, this cost him
-
something. If you look at the principle of
-
that, that this cost Jesus, this isn't if, if it didn't cost
-
Jesus, then it was just a game, right?
-
It's just, it's just moving pieces on a board and it, and it
-
doesn't really matter. And God's just just making
-
things up. But this really mattered and
-
this really hurt. And, and The thing is, is after
-
Jesus is at Gethsemane and he's, he's now getting crucified, he's
-
on the cross and he's still knowing that's coming.
-
Jesus says in, in Luke 2334, Father, forgive them for they do
-
not know what they're doing as they divided his garments and
-
cast law. And if you remember, I read
-
about, I read about them doing that back in Psalm 22.
-
He understood what they could not.
-
He was about to win what what they were all meaning for evil.
-
What the enemy was meaning for evil will cause the biggest
-
victory for grace, but it will cost more than any can pay.
-
Only Jesus has the ability to to sacrifice what was necessary.
-
Guys I just praying today and and talking to this really hurt
-
guys. This wasn't, this wasn't I got
-
back youth group time. We have one of the guys who goes
-
So what? God died for three days, but
-
he's God, so who cares? I mean, and that, I mean, he
-
said it a little more reverently than that, but if that's all it
-
was, a God outside of time skips 3 days, who cares?
-
A day is like 1000 years, 1000 years like a day, who cares.
-
That's why it is so important that Jesus is 100% man because
-
he took it like we would take it, but he took all of it.
-
And God did not shield his Son from the penalty of sin because
-
if he had, he would not be considered just.
-
And God is just. And Jesus agreed to the Father's
-
plan, or they agreed together, but at the end of the day, he
-
agreed because of the reward. And the reward was you and I.
-
So the sacrifice was worth it because of what he was going to
-
get. And what he was going to get was
-
each and every one of us, right, John?
-
And that's the John 316 For God so loved the world that he gave
-
his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
-
not perish, but have everlasting life.
-
The world, whoever believes in him, right?
-
That's who Jesus gets. And Isaiah 53 he shall see the
-
labor of his soul and be satisfied by his knowledge.
-
My righteous servant shall justify many, for He shall bear
-
their iniquities. And this is if you guys haven't
-
ever read Isaiah 53. It's another one of those that
-
just proof of who Jesus was that was foretold 700 years before
-
Jesus. Jesus completes his task and I
-
was just actually talking to somebody today about this.
-
So when I first got saved, something that that I used to
-
that they probably still say it. Dying for Jesus would be easy.
-
It's living for him that's hard, right?
-
It's dying for him is an instant.
-
It's a moment, right? You know, gunman comes in, you
-
dive in front of the bullet. You know, somebody want that.
-
Those are moments living for him.
-
So this him on the cross is him living for us.
-
This is this is that moment that he paid for all the garbage that
-
I've all the garbage that I've ever done, all the garbage I'm
-
doing and all the garbage I will ever do, he paid for in that
-
instant. And it says in, in Mark 15.
-
Now when the 6th hour had come, there was darkness over the
-
whole land until the 9th hour. And at the 9th hour, Jesus cried
-
out with a loud voice saying, Eli, Eli Lama Savathnia, which
-
translated My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
-
And that is the first lines of Psalm 22.
-
And the the thing about that is all the Israelites, all those
-
rulers and elders and all those people that would be standing
-
around would know what that meant because they, they
-
memorized Scripture and catalogued their Scriptures by
-
the first line of the verse or of the passage.
-
So we started off with Psalm 22 and them casting lots and
-
piercing, piercing him. And now we're here and the
-
Israelites get to hear this and then they get to look at what
-
look at the look at the scene in front of them and see prophecy
-
and see what's happening. And then in John 19, it says
-
after this Jesus, knowing all things were accomplished, that
-
Scripture might be fulfilled, saying, I thirst.
-
And now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there, and they
-
filled the sponge with sour wine, put it on a hyssop and put
-
it to his mouth. So when Jesus had received the
-
sour wine, he said, it is finished.
-
And bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.
-
And this was, this was not a show, right?
-
I this was eternally costly. When we see Jesus on the other
-
side of the tomb, He still has scars.
-
Put your Thomas, put your fingers in the holes, put your
-
hand in my side. I mean, this is not like Jesus
-
is still on the cross or still paying.
-
He paid it all past, present and future at that moment, and it
-
was finished. And Mark, Mark 1538 says, then
-
the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
-
So in the centurion who stood opposite him saw that he cried
-
out like this and breathed his last.
-
He said truly, this man was the Son of God.
-
And that was that was the world looking on in astonishment
-
right. And the the fun in this moment
-
guys is it is finished at that moment the payment had been
-
made. The proof of payment will show
-
up in a couple of days. Like the story of the paralyzed
-
man. The work was done because Jesus
-
said then it was proven. And if you look at that's Mark
-
23 or 523, and this is when Jesus says your sins are
-
forgiven. And everybody starts, well, you
-
can't say his sins are forgiven. And he's and Jesus comes back
-
and says, which is easier to say your sins are forgiven you or to
-
say rise up and walk. But that you may know that the
-
Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins.
-
He said to the man who was paralyzed, I say to you, arise,
-
take up your bed and go to your house.
-
And immediately he arose up before them.
-
And that is when Jesus said it is finished, it was finished, it
-
was done. You can count on it.
-
And the question is, what are we going to do with it, right?
-
Are we going to be, are we going to be leafy trees or are we
-
going to be fruit bearing, right?
-
Are we going to apply Jesus to our lives?
-
Are we going to say Jesus, I can't and you have to.
-
And that's. That is that understanding that
-
Jesus paid the price for all of it, right?
-
For my sin, for your sin for the guy that's making me mad sin for
-
my enemy, sin for my all of it. What it cost him?
-
You were worth it. Do we believe he is worth
-
sacrificing all of us for fellowship with him?
-
And that that really what it always comes down to is do we
-
trust him? Do we trust that when I say,
-
when I, when I say I don't matter that he that he's going
-
to come along and take care of me?
-
Or do I have to defend myself? Do I have to take care of
-
myself? And this the, the verse that I
-
use all the time and you guys hear it over and over and over
-
again is Galatians 220 is I've been crucified with Christ.
-
It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
-
And this life that I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in
-
the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.
-
This life that I now live in the flesh.
-
I live by faith in the Son of God because of what he did.
-
He already paid for it all guys, I got, I got nothing but gravy
-
this side of heaven and I get more gravy on that side because
-
it's his problem, all of it. You know it.
-
It's this is not how how do you how do you just exchange this
-
world for his plan, believe that he is able to do what he says
-
and then watch him do it? And does that mean that your
-
life is sunshine and rainbows? I would tell you the apostles
-
would probably tell you no. But is he worth it?
-
And is his plan better than mine?
-
Absolutely. So I encourage you that we have
-
the cross up here tonight and I and on Sunday.
-
He's awesome and he proves it. Not just don't just say it, he
-
proves it. So Lord, I just lift up this
-
time and I lift up everybody here, everybody at home.
-
And Lord, that you would just come in and take over.
-
Lord that we would just lean in and rely on you, Lord, and that
-
you would do amazing things through through our submitted
-
lives to your plan. And I pray all this in Jesus
-
name, Amen.
