  1. We're going to pick up in Exodus 4 and we'll just read some of it

  2. again, just kind of to remember where Moses is.

  3. This is Moses just met with the Lord for the first time at the

  4. burning Bush in chapter 3. And then he's kind of Lord's

  5. given him his marching orders and, and Moses a lot like us,

  6. keeps raising his hand and and explaining why maybe, maybe we

  7. could do a different way, but just read some of it here.

  8. And Moses said to the Lord, Oh my Lord, I'm not eloquent

  9. neither neither before nor since you have spoken to your servant,

  10. but I am slow to speech in slow of tongue.

  11. So the Lord said to him, who has made man's mouth or who makes a

  12. mute, the deaf, the seeing or the blind?

  13. Have not I the Lord now therefore go, and I will be with

  14. you and your mouth and teach you what you shall say.

  15. And then Moses says, But he said, Oh my Lord, please sin by

  16. the hand of whomever else you want may sin.

  17. So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he

  18. said, He's not Aaron the Levite, your brother.

  19. I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out

  20. to meet you. When he sees you, he will be

  21. glad in his heart. And so Lord, I just I lift up

  22. this time. I lift up everybody here.

  23. Lord, that you have something to say, Lord, and that you would

  24. speak to us, Lord, that you would open our ears to hear one

  25. that you'd fill us with your spirit, or that you'd speak

  26. through me and also to me, Lord, that I would just get out of the

  27. way. I pray all this in Jesus name,

  28. Amen. So the my my title for the day

  29. is one way full surrender. And that first Moses starts off

  30. with, Oh my Lord, I am not an eloquent neither neither before

  31. or since you have spoken in your to your servant, but I am slow

  32. of speech and slow of tongue. So guys, this is a false

  33. statement. And we know that because what

  34. what he's saying is I am not elegant, but what it.

  35. But that's actually a phrase in the Hebrew.

  36. And it means I am not a man of words.

  37. But if you look back in Acts, Stephen calls Moses out, right?

  38. It says Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and

  39. was mighty in words and deeds. So Moses, Moses knew how to

  40. speak. He he was, you know, 40 years

  41. earlier, he was all that he thought he was.

  42. He was ready. And then God sidelined him

  43. because his pride had grown right?

  44. And Moses was mighty in Word and deed in the world's eyes 40

  45. years earlier. And Moses thought too much of

  46. himself. But now 40 years later, he's

  47. sitting in the Lord's telling him what he's going to do and

  48. Lord and Moses is now thinking too much about himself, right.

  49. And we, we get like this humiliate and it, and it's, I'm

  50. going to be humble, right? It I'm going to be humble and I

  51. don't want to say I'm better than I am or I, I, I want to

  52. false humility, that kind of stuff.

  53. Humility is not thinking less of ourselves.

  54. It is thinking of ourselves less.

  55. And when the Lord asks us to do something, our answer should be

  56. every time, OK, Lord, yes, Lord, and it, and it should be that

  57. before he asks. And guys, we serve a God.

  58. We, we talk about this all the time.

  59. We serve a God that is going to ask you to do stuff that you're

  60. not able to do. That's his point is that you

  61. don't have it in you to do what I'm asking you to do.

  62. I'm going to do it through you. And people are going to look at

  63. that and go, well, look at that. You know, it's I, I think on

  64. Wednesday I was talking about it.

  65. Is that whole point of you know, you, I graduated high school

  66. with AD average, not even a high D average, and I was going to

  67. run a shovel the rest of my life.

  68. That was my plan, right? My mom joked and said, if you

  69. don't do better in school, you're going to run a show.

  70. You're going to dig ditches for a living.

  71. Well, it made a pretty good living digging ditches, but I

  72. never in a million years thought I'd stand up front.

  73. And anybody that knows me as, as I've grown would be amazed where

  74. I started and where I am now. And and that isn't because I got

  75. smarter, right? God did more work.

  76. And so the Lord, the Lord here is pretty blunt and I like it

  77. basically. So, so Moses says I'm not

  78. eloquent and the Lord says, what do you have to do with it?

  79. And that is verse 11. So the Lord said to him who has

  80. made man's mouth or who makes the mute the depth, the seeing

  81. or the blind have not I the Lord now therefore go and I will be

  82. with your mouth and teach you what you should say.

  83. You know you you don't have like with Gideon or if you go through

  84. the the things they did in the Old Testament and even in the

  85. New Testament right. These weren't things that were

  86. in their wheelhouse. I my my story of so she brought

  87. up Elizabeth Elliott this morning.

  88. Elizabeth Elliott's husband died on a beach by tribe.

  89. I can't remember the name of the tribe in in South America and

  90. within within the year was it was the a year, year and a half

  91. Elizabeth Elliott and her toddler lived in that village

  92. with the people that had killed her husband and his friends.

  93. That wasn't because Elizabeth Elizabeth Elliott was a good

  94. person. That wasn't because in in that

  95. that she looked at everything and said, you know what I should

  96. go do I think I will take my toddler and into harm's way.

  97. What I mean by what what that when you look at Elizabeth

  98. Elliott and you listen to her speak or you read her books or

  99. any of that, you will find that what she did was just the next

  100. thing the Lord was asking her to do.

  101. Her answer was yes, Lord, not yes, this is going to be

  102. comfortable. I mean the when you listen to

  103. her that year that the time she spent with that tribe

  104. translating they, they lived in they lived in huts without walls

  105. and they, I mean, there was nothing about her time in that

  106. village that was pleasant to her flesh, but she was being

  107. obedient and the Lord met her and did amazing things, right.

  108. And that's, that's the God we serve.

  109. But in order to do that, in order to be that you have to

  110. understand how big he is and that he is able right?

  111. It's it's not Lord, I don't have it in me and and his answer

  112. whenever I say that is always I know.

  113. And you got to know that as he's as he's kind of as he goes

  114. through this part of chapter 4, he scolds, he scolds Moses, he

  115. he rebukes him, he corrects him. And Moses is going to become a

  116. man that God calls a friend, right?

  117. And in Exodus 3311, it says so the Lord spoke to Moses face to

  118. face as a man speaks to his friend.

  119. And we are always growing and Moses here this I looked at this

  120. whole chapter and you kind of condense it.

  121. This really is a is a testimony of Moses, right?

  122. Where he because by the end of chapter 4, guys, there'll be

  123. moments where where Moses questions the Lord but not

  124. questions him in a not so Lord or I'm not doing that Lord, but

  125. a why or how is this going to work?

  126. You know, that kind of he has those, those, those questions,

  127. but he, this is, this is where his life where the light switch

  128. flips. It's Hudson Taylor called it an

  129. exchanged life, right. By the end of this chapter,

  130. Moses is just on board, right? I've, I said it a while back.

  131. It's, you know, Moses got in, he sat down and he held on and and

  132. from here on out, he's just going to go.

  133. And it's fun to watch. But to get there, he had to walk

  134. through all the things he had to remember who was speaking.

  135. You know, the God that that is was and will be not not a not

  136. not a created thing, something that created everything and and

  137. to know Moses. Moses was created for the

  138. purpose that God has him for right that he that he's going to

  139. be used in in in Psalm 13913. It says for you were formed for

  140. you formed my inward parts. You covered me in my mother's

  141. womb and I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully

  142. made, made marvelous are your works and that my soul knows

  143. very and that my soul knows very well and that by the end of

  144. this. That's where Noah or Moses is.

  145. He is just OK Lord, and if we, if we believe the first verse of

  146. Genesis, which is in the beginning God created, then I

  147. can believe he can do any of the stuff he asked me to do, right.

  148. So when God clearly says go, my answer is yes.

  149. When, when I know what he wants me to do, I do it without,

  150. without hesitation, without reserve.

  151. And and that's where you want to be.

  152. You know, if you think of Noah when he built the ark.

  153. So the Lord comes down and asked Noah to build a boat.

  154. He doesn't ask him to build a boat on the water.

  155. He asked him to build a boat on the ground.

  156. And it's not a little boat. We were talking about it

  157. yesterday. It's like from from the bridge,

  158. from bridge to bridge, 900 feet long and it's 450 feet wide,

  159. right? It it's a boat.

  160. And what did Noah say? Yes, Lord, that was it was he

  161. built the boat. It was 120 years until it

  162. rained. But his, his answer was because

  163. he knew who he was talking to and he just said, yes, Lord,

  164. another point of automatic obedience that it definitely

  165. hits a bit closer to home. And it's Abraham and his

  166. household, right? In Genesis 1710, it says, this

  167. is my covenant, which you shall keep between me and you and your

  168. descendants after you. Every male child among you will

  169. be or shall be circumcised and you shall circumcise in the

  170. flesh of your foreskin and it shall be a sign of the covenant

  171. between me and you. And then if you go to Genesis

  172. 1723, it says so Abraham took Ishmael, his son, all who were

  173. born in his house, all who were brought with it, bought with his

  174. money every male among the men of Abraham's house, and

  175. circumcised the flesh of their foreskin that very same day, as

  176. God had said to him, OK, so in just funny, Can you imagine that

  177. conversation when he got done talking to the Lord?

  178. So in Genesis 14, Abraham went out to rescue Lot and he had 318

  179. trained men. So train many as 318.

  180. Then you've got their, their their children, right?

  181. And you have slaves that stayed behind, say 500 people get

  182. circumcised. How does that conversation go

  183. when you walk back into camp and say, so guys, I was meeting with

  184. the Lord and here's what we're going to do.

  185. But but it doesn't say that this was it doesn't give you that

  186. Abraham went, Lord, I, how am I going to talk to these?

  187. It doesn't say that the men had anything to say about it.

  188. They just OK, yes, Lord, it was, it was automatic obedience and

  189. it was obedience in the sense it was, it was dying to their self,

  190. right? It was.

  191. So for Abraham, it was knowing who God was and knowing the God

  192. he served and for all of his men, some of them may have that

  193. relationship with God, but they all looked at Abraham and

  194. trusted he heard from the Lord. And that is, that's a big ask,

  195. right? And then you have you have us

  196. and you have Moses. And verse 13 it says, but he

  197. said, oh Lord, please send me by by the hand of or sin by the

  198. hand of whomever else you want to send.

  199. Lord, don't make me do this. I don't want to do this.

  200. And I don't know if you guys been there.

  201. Have you had those? I in Uganda, we had a long

  202. conversation with a bunch of different people over the years

  203. that we've talked about. And I said, it's really for me,

  204. it's pretty easy a lot of times to know whether or not the Lord

  205. wants me to speak up in a particular situation.

  206. Because when I really, really, really want to say something, I

  207. should probably be quiet. And when I really, really,

  208. really don't want to say something, Lord, this is going

  209. to be awkward. I don't want to have this.

  210. I should probably start talking because our flesh wants both

  211. sides, right? I want to voice my opinion when?

  212. When I want. I'm you.

  213. You. You've upset me and I want to

  214. tell you what I think of you. That's my flesh.

  215. You're, you are. I am being called by the Lord to

  216. say something that's going to affect your eternity.

  217. My flesh doesn't want anything to do with that.

  218. So which one am I supposed to say yes to?

  219. Right? I'm supposed to say yes to the

  220. one I don't want to say because, you know, I, I go back to you

  221. guys have all heard the story of me having to apologize.

  222. And after I had dug the hole, that meant I was going to have

  223. to apologize and me arguing with the Lord.

  224. And I'm not going to do that. Lord, I'm you know that isn't

  225. going to work, but do you understand in those moments when

  226. you just say yes, Lord, when it especially when it's something

  227. you don't want to do, the joyous thing about those moments that

  228. day that I had to apologize to him and I, you guys, you'll hear

  229. the story again down the road. But the day I had to apologize

  230. to the guy in that moment, in that moment when I apologize

  231. because it wasn't I'm a sorry, but you're a jerk.

  232. It had to be an apology that was, that was I'm sorry, not I'm

  233. sorry, but no excuses, just I'm sorry.

  234. I acted like a jerk in that moment.

  235. You know what? It was exactly where God wanted

  236. me to be doing exactly what God wanted me to do because I didn't

  237. want any part of it, but I knew he did and I was doing it.

  238. And so I probably knowing me at that time in my life, I probably

  239. 5 minutes later screwed up and I was no longer where God wanted

  240. me to be doing what God wanted me to do.

  241. But for that moment, right? So being obedient, especially

  242. when it goes against what we want to do is a great place to

  243. be because it tells you you are walking where God wants you to

  244. walk and get into this is this is be careful what you ask for

  245. right? Verse 14 So the anger and this

  246. is after Moses whines and sends somebody else and Lord says so

  247. the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he

  248. said is not Aaron the Levite your brother.

  249. I know that he can speak well and look, he is also coming out

  250. to meet you. When he sees you, he will be

  251. glad in his heart. Now you shall speak to him and

  252. put the words of words in his mouth.

  253. I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth I will teach you

  254. what you shall do. So he shall be a be your

  255. spokesman to the people, and he himself shall be as a mouth for

  256. you. You shall be to him as God, and

  257. you shall take this rod in your hand with which you shall do the

  258. signs. So Moses's punishment is getting

  259. what he wanted, right? Aaron is given and if you if as

  260. we go through Exodus, you're going to find out that Aaron may

  261. not have been the gift that Moses would have wanted right

  262. you I'm sure you I'm sure that you guys know the story is

  263. Aaron's. Aaron's name means exalted

  264. mountain of strength or light bringer and I would tell you

  265. that Aaron is like the anti version of his name.

  266. That doesn't mean Aaron's a Sinner that's going to burn in

  267. hell forever but he just was not strength to Moses most of the

  268. time he was difficult and he caused issues right?

  269. Moses is on the mountain talking to God after there's a moment

  270. where the leadership of Israel and Aaron with Moses have dinner

  271. with God and then God tells them that Moses is going to go to the

  272. mountain for go up on the mountain and Moses gone 40 days.

  273. And in that 40 days they all panic and say we don't know what

  274. happened to Moses and Aaron makes him a calf.

  275. You guys know the story, right? And when questioned about it,

  276. you know what happened? I threw the gold in and a calf

  277. came out like so we we've established he's a liar.

  278. But in in Moses's life, there were this, this is one of those

  279. guys that Aaron, Aaron looked at Moses like we a lot of times

  280. look at all kinds of stuff. We can look at churches,

  281. denominations, traditions, people, leadership because he

  282. says you will be as God to him. And I, I was like, what does

  283. that mean? Lord, this is God speaking and

  284. God's telling Moses you will be like he, you will be like God to

  285. him. What does that mean?

  286. And so digging into that, that is Aaron.

  287. Aaron had a relationship with Moses and recognized that Moses

  288. spoke to God face to face and you we as we go through Exodus,

  289. you will see all kinds of moments in this right?

  290. But there was another guy that God did give Moses and and he

  291. was quiet and Moses didn't know this was coming.

  292. But if you go back to that, Exodus 33 verse 11 says so.

    Exodus 33:11

  293. The so the Lord spoke to Moses face to face as a man speaks to

  294. his friend. And he would return to camp, but

  295. the servant Joshua, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun,

  296. a young man, did not depart from the Tabernacle.

  297. OK, so Aaron and the leadership did not want literally told

  298. Moses, God scares us. You talk to him and you tell us

  299. what he has to say. And Joshua understood that Moses

  300. spoke to God or God spoke to Moses, but God can speak.

  301. And Joshua's life, if you is just that, right?

  302. He is a he is a man that that truly ends up being the the one

  303. that takes over for Moses when Moses passes away.

  304. But Joshua's eyes were fixed on the Lord, not on not on any of

  305. the I got on here. Jesus is the only thing every

  306. everything else will fail us if we are focused on it, right?

  307. We are to focus on Jesus if it's our or if it's the organization,

  308. the denomination, the, the traditions, the leaders, the

  309. church. The only thing that that this is

  310. about is growing in our relationship with Jesus.

  311. Now as a body, we can grow in our relationship with each other

  312. and we're the body of Christ. And and that's true, But if at

  313. any point you put this ahead of your personal relationship with

  314. Jesus, you're missing it, right? It is.

  315. It is about that personal relationship.

  316. And that is the the gift God gave Moses.

  317. And Aaron is a man that would just follow Moses, but he had no

  318. depth, right? He had no, he had no

  319. understanding a lot of times on who God was.

  320. He did understand that Moses understood and I will just do

  321. what Moses says. But his and, and you can watch

  322. all of Israel follow Moses exactly like that, that he spoke

  323. for God, but they didn't understand very often that God

  324. was the one doing the speaking. And that's for us guys.

  325. And that's, you know, all kinds of different churches over the

  326. years, different leadership, different, different big

  327. evangelist, all of them, right. The good ones would say it's

  328. just Jesus. Do not look at me.

  329. If I am on a pedestal, knock me off the pedestal.

  330. I'm not on a pedestal. But if, if they, if you have

  331. somebody on a pedestal, knock them off the pedestal because

  332. the only the, The thing is, it's between you and him, right?

  333. That's when I got saved. That was Pastor Steve.

  334. That was the, the thing that amazed me was that he was

  335. standing up front. And Steve is very, very mellow,

  336. more college, college, college professor type as far as he's

  337. not animated. He doesn't talk with his hands.

  338. He's very, and he's, he's going through revelation and he's just

  339. saying what it says. And I'm like, that is what that

  340. says and that is what that says. Because guys, at the end of the

  341. day, the thing that changes your life is not what I say, but what

  342. God says, right? So what you should be doing is

  343. digging into the word and making sure that I'm not saying

  344. something wrong, but also digging into the word so that

  345. you know what he's saying, right?

  346. Because they're the words that change your life.

  347. I might have AI might have an illustration or something that

  348. points you to the word, but that's what you need to be

  349. looking at. Not not, hey, I had this, this

  350. guy had a neat illustration. You need to be looking at the

  351. word, right? And that is Moses.

  352. And that's the joy about all this is Moses gets there right?

  353. And he gets there quicker than the rest of us.

  354. But it did take him 40 years of stillness before he was ready to

  355. get there quickly. So Exodus 418 says So Moses went

  356. and returned to Jethro, his father-in-law, and said to him,

  357. Please let me go and return to my brother's house, brethren's

  358. house, who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.

  359. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

  360. Now the Lord said to Moses and Midian, go, return to Egypt, for

  361. all the men who sought your life are dead.

  362. Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set on the set them on

  363. the donkey. And he returned to the land of

  364. Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in

  365. his hand. And I love this because it's

  366. Moses just says, yes, Lord. Oh, and so it's all done, right.

  367. He's he's on his way. He's just going to do the next

  368. thing. Lessons learned.

  369. I don't have to. I'm in motion except for that

  370. one thing. And Exodus 24 through 20 or 424

  371. through 26 says, and it came to pass on the way at the

  372. encampment that the Lord met him and sought to kill him.

  373. That's a took a turn for the worse.

  374. Then Zephora took a sharp stone and cut the foreskin of her son

  375. and cast it at Moses feet and said, surely you are a husband

  376. of blood to me. So we let him go.

  377. Then she said, You are our, you are a husband of blood because

  378. of the circumcision. So Moses is headed off for the

  379. Lord. He he is doing what the Lord

  380. wants him to do, but half obedience is full rebellion and

  381. the Scripture, the Scripture here, that's what it tells us,

  382. right, That those those two verses, 3 verses, that's it.

  383. There, there isn't a lot of commentary on this.

  384. There isn't somewhere else I can look that says, Hey, what was

  385. going on here? But I'm going to I'm going to

  386. give you some a possibility. How's that God told Abraham the

  387. covenant and so Moses, because his his parents were were God

  388. fearing and knew who the Lord was, he would have been

  389. circumcised. It only says the one son.

  390. You know, it doesn't say sons, it says sons.

  391. So you got to imagine that the oldest son was circumcised.

  392. And I would imagine when the oldest son was circumcised, the

  393. four went, what did you just do? No, that's not so Then the

  394. second son comes around and Zaphora's like you want to do

  395. what to my baby? No, we're not doing that.

  396. And so Moses is I'll talk to God.

  397. It'll be all right. You know, I don't have to do

  398. everything. We'll just, you know, some of

  399. it. And as you can tell, when the

  400. the Lord sought to kill him, that wasn't going to be OK,

  401. right? It Moses going into this needed

  402. to have all the walls built, not he didn't need to have breaches,

  403. right? We've talked about that, that if

  404. there is sin in the camp and Joshua goes through that in in

  405. the book of Joshua, when they go to AI, there was sin in the camp

  406. and men died. This is one of those moments

  407. that God's like you've sinned in the camp, you are not being

  408. obedient. And now this had longer lasting

  409. effects. I believe when you look at it is

  410. that it did. He was obedient at this point

  411. and she, Zephora did the circumcision.

  412. Moses was alive, but we don't hear about Sephora again until

  413. chapter 18. And I believe at this point she

  414. went home. She took her kids and went home.

  415. It doesn't say that, but you don't hear about her at all.

  416. And when you do hear about her in in chapter 18, it's Jethro

  417. bringing her to Moses. So there was there was more

  418. here, right? This is that that trying to make

  419. his wife happy, trying to make someone else happy in

  420. disobedience breaks relationships.

  421. And so doing what the Lord says, when the Lord says it is your

  422. best plan, he, he sees the whole picture.

  423. I see, I see what's hard to hear, right?

  424. I, I can look at if I got to say something to Faye that she

  425. doesn't want to hear. But the Lord's telling me, this

  426. is the way we need to go. This is what we need to do.

  427. And I kicked the can down the road, guys, sooner or later I'm

  428. going to say that to Faye, whether I say it today or I

  429. kicked the can and I got to say it in six weeks.

  430. And it's probably worse when I say it in six weeks, whatever

  431. that you know, if it's being, being obedient now is important.

  432. John 1421, which is one of my life verses.

  433. I beat you guys up with He who has my commandments and keeps

  434. them. It is he who loves me and he who

  435. loves me will be loved by my Father and I will love him and

  436. manifest myself to him. How you grow is through

  437. obedience. And it's obedience to the word,

  438. but it's also it's it's never against the word, but it's also

  439. that the Lord's going to ask you to do things and he's going to

  440. he's going to convict you of stuff and he's going to say you

  441. need to do this. See, we're putting a water line

  442. in on my construction stories. And this is one of those that,

  443. you know, lay awake at night going, Lord, is there a way we

  444. cannot do it this way. Is there, is there any way we're

  445. putting in a water line to 12 inch water line?

  446. I, I have my, my crew was, was new, but they were experienced

  447. enough. I, I gave them all the tools

  448. they needed and all the time they needed to put the water

  449. line in right. I gave them, they had elevation

  450. hubs. They had everything they needed

  451. to do it right. And so I wasn't worried about it

  452. because they, they knew what they were doing.

  453. And they get the water line in. We have thrust blocks ploured.

  454. I got a crew doing services and my main line crew is putting in

  455. fire hydrants. Well, fire hydrants and I'm

  456. going to tell you more than you really need to know, but fire

  457. hydrants come off the main line level.

  458. And so however deep the main line is, is how, how much pipe

  459. you have on the built fire hydrant.

  460. And they come to me and they go, we need shorter fire hydrants.

  461. And I'm like, no, you don't. And we go, I, I go and, and I

  462. think they've just made a, a math error.

  463. So I go and take some shots and it's like 4:30 in the afternoon

  464. and we're, we're leaving at 5:00.

  465. And I take some, some grade shots and I do some math And I'm

  466. pretty sure I know what the problem is, but I'm not not

  467. confident. And so I let I have them all go

  468. home and I don't sleep that night because I'm pretty sure I

  469. know what's going to have to happen.

  470. And I show up at 5 O clock in the morning.

  471. I set everything back up, nobody's there.

  472. And I shoot and I, I, I shoot where they've been putting in

  473. services. I, I take shots on the elevation

  474. of the actual pipe. I have a 12 inch pipe that's

  475. supposed to have 3 1/2 feet of cover and it has 2 feet of cover

  476. on it, which means what that means is is that I have a 12

  477. inch pipe that's supposed to flow water that's going to be 2

  478. foot underground instead of almost 4 feet underground.

  479. As you can imagine that isn't OK.

  480. The the problem and the reason this was it wasn't that I had to

  481. tell him to dig it up. It was that I had to explain to

  482. my boss. It wasn't even that I had to

  483. explain to my boss that we needed to fix it and that we had

  484. done it wrong. It was that it was all bought

  485. off. The only person that knew it was

  486. wrong was me. The inspector had bought it off

  487. as it was, the thrust blocks were poured, the services were

  488. in and the only one, I mean, I could have buried it and it's

  489. done except over the, over my decades work in the construction

  490. field, I knew what would happen if I did that.

  491. And what would happen is I'm coming back to dig it up.

  492. Whether I dig it up today and we waste a whole day or I wait, I

  493. wait a week, a month, whatever, Sooner or later God's going to

  494. beat me up to the point that I have to do what he said I have

  495. to do. So that's what we did that

  496. Friday was they had to dig up a water line and the inspector

  497. showed up on Monday. They weren't there and they're

  498. like, why are we like, well, we were low or we were, we were

  499. high and he was amazed that I had that we had repaired.

  500. I'm like, guys, I wasn't my my standard line to everybody is

  501. that I don't work for my boss. I work for God.

  502. But in in that case, when I told my crew is guys, there's a line

  503. that says it's good enough. It's good enough for my house,

  504. you know, looks good for my house kind of thing.

  505. Guys that bury everything I do. If that's my standard, I should

  506. quit, right? My standard is to do it right

  507. and, and to follow what the Lord has to say.

  508. And if and if we're not doing that, trust me, guys, if you

  509. have a relationship with the Lord and you were trying to cut

  510. corners, he is going to make you straighten them out, right?

  511. He is going to he's going to confront you.

  512. And and I imagine, I mean, it doesn't say how old Moses's sons

  513. are. It doesn't say it doesn't give

  514. you much in the way of information there.

  515. But that was probably an ongoing.

  516. This wasn't his son wasn't born right before they left, right?

  517. He was well past eight days old and it had been an ongoing

  518. thing. Hence when the Lord confronted

  519. him said you're going to do this or you're going to die.

  520. So have you ever had that? And it's not condemnation, it's

  521. conviction. Have you ever had that

  522. conviction on your life that that you have a choice.

  523. You can, you can do what the Lord says or you can walk away.

  524. Those are your choices. And not because God's giving

  525. them to you, but because those are your choices.

  526. You, you can. This is what this is what is

  527. required for you to be at peace. And so you can run away or you

  528. can do this thing. And, and I've had, I'd love to

  529. say I learned all my lessons, you know, one and done kind of

  530. thing. But I've had numerous times in

  531. my life where where me and the Lord reached that point, whether

  532. it was chewing or having to confess something at work or

  533. whatever that thing is that the Lord says you need to do this.

  534. And I came up with excuses on why I didn't need to do that.

  535. No, it's all right. I don't need to do that.

  536. No, Lord, I'm good and he just keeps coming back to it.

  537. And that's all we're talking about until I do it so that that

  538. first time obedience, the quick right, the yes, Lord, this is

  539. going to hurt, but it's not going to hurt as bad as if I

  540. wait. And it's that idea that in First

  541. Corinthians 118, it's it's about that we are in a process, right?

  542. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are

  543. perishing, but to us who are being saved, that being saved,

  544. it is, it is the power of God. And that is we are we're in a

  545. process. I mean, I'm saved, but I just

  546. keep getting more saved as I get more obedient, right?

  547. Each of that that he continues to manifest himself to me more

  548. and more. And Luke 923 then he said to

  549. them all, if anyone desires to come after me, let him deny

  550. himself and take up his cross daily and follow me forever

  551. desires to save his life will lose it.

  552. But whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

  553. And that is God's going to ask us to do things that our flesh

  554. wants nothing to do with. And and I say that that that's

  555. our our our selfishness, right. I guess flesh is kind of a

  556. Christian word or whatever that our self, our selfishness

  557. doesn't want to do things that that are awkward, doesn't want

  558. to do things that are, are difficult, right?

  559. I just want to fit in. I just want to go along and

  560. God's going to ask you to stand in those places, right, And dig

  561. up those water lines, whatever that that thing in your life is.

  562. But he's going to be transforming us in the process.

  563. And you watch this in Moses's life, that he will be

  564. transformed into somebody that is not, that is just obedient.

  565. He starts as a guy that that is excited and wants to kill, kill

  566. Egyptians for the Lord, even if the Lord isn't asking.

  567. And by the end of it, he is. He is just standing wherever the

  568. Lord wants him to stand. And this is done by remembering

  569. at all times who who we serve and that it's not about MO, it's

  570. not like Aaron and Moses, it's like Joshua and the Lord.

  571. It's that we are supposed to be in the word being washed by it,

  572. which which being Tran, that being transformed is being

  573. washed by the word. And in we we know the verse

  574. because it's it's about husbands and wives.

  575. But it's Ephesians 525 and 26. It's his husband's love your

  576. wife just as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for

  577. her that he might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of

  578. the word. Now we read that and we say

  579. husbands, you need to make sure you're you're pouring into your

  580. wives with the word. But but let's go back to what it

  581. says. We're husbands love your wives

  582. just as Christ. So Christ loves the church and

  583. is wants us to be washed in the word is washing us in his word,

  584. which is both his written word and speaking to us right though

  585. those that still small voice that says I mean in the the

  586. water line and dig up the water line.

  587. But it's all kinds of little moments in your life.

  588. Apologize to that guy. You know go talk to that person,

  589. whatever that thing is right having that having that inward

  590. position. You know I mean when when going

  591. doing St. witnessing this is well, Lord, I just don't speak

  592. good. I don't know the verses well, I

  593. think, I think the Lord directly confronts Moses on that.

  594. Who made your mouth, right? He'll give you the words to

  595. speak. If, if, if the Lord asked you to

  596. go speak to somebody, He's got something to say to them.

  597. You, you just need to be obedient.

  598. And guys, if you're in sin, if you have secret sin, if you got

  599. things that the Lord's telling you about, know that the Lord

  600. loves you too much to leave you there and your sin will find you

  601. out, right? That that he isn't.

  602. I mean, like like that the Zephora and the children.

  603. I mean, Moses knew the right thing to do.

  604. And I like I said, I don't know how long it went on that he

  605. wasn't doing it, but then it found him out and there were

  606. penalties, right? Like I said, he, it doesn't say

  607. that Sabora was gone at that moment, but it doesn't talk

  608. about her anymore. And so there was there was

  609. consequences on earth for delayed obedience.

  610. And Hebrews 12/6 says for whom the Lord loves, he chastens and

  611. scourges every son who receives him.

  612. Which means, guys, I am a work in progress and the Lord is

  613. going to rebuke and correct me on a regular basis, right?

  614. There isn't a point this side of heaven that I go.

  615. I've arrived. I am a sinless, perfected being.

  616. And if you don't if, if anybody believes that I've got Faye up

  617. here, you can talk to her after service.

  618. She'll explain all the things. I'm definitely not that, right?

  619. It's all about the moment we hear clearly God's direction and

  620. go the other way. Our growth stops when we clearly

  621. hear God's direction. Our answer is yes, Lord.

  622. And the fun thing, guys, I say that it sounds, it's an amazing

  623. moment when you say yes, Lord, and you're doing what he wants

  624. you to do where he wants you to do it because he gives you the

  625. power to do what he's asking you to do.

  626. And that is the God we serve, right?

  627. It's it. That's something Aaron missed is

  628. the living God, that he had the power to do it.

  629. Exodus 44 starting in verse 27 to the end it says and the Lord

  630. said to Aaron, go into the wilderness to meet Moses.

  631. So he went and met him on the mountain of God and kissed him.

  632. So Moses told Aaron all the words the Lord who had sent him

  633. and all the signs which he had commanded him.

  634. Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders

  635. of the children of Israel, and Aaron spoke all the words which

  636. the Lord had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the

  637. sight of the people. So the people believed, and when

  638. they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel

  639. and that He had looked on their affliction, they bowed their

  640. heads and worshipped. And I would love to tell you

  641. that from that moment forward, Israel just said, Yes, Lord, but

  642. they act like us. And that's that's one of when I

  643. first got saved. That was one of my I went to a

  644. Bible study and we were going through the book of Judges.

  645. And I'm kind of mocking the Israelites.

  646. Like, man, they are not very bright.

  647. I just keep doing the same thing over and over again.

  648. And one of my good friends now, but a elder at the time looks at

  649. me and goes remind you anybody, you know, like, oh, oh, yeah.

  650. That's yeah. And Israel is just fickle,

  651. right? They were they were all in until

  652. there was struggle and they over and over again they are all in.

  653. We are following you are God. It is great.

  654. Did you see it's raining? I don't like it when it rains,

  655. right? And that's literally they are as

  656. fickle as you get right. But Jesus in in Mark talks about

  657. this kind of belief, right? And Jesus all through, all

  658. through his Gospels says, if anyone has ears to hear, let him

  659. hear, which is just listen up, hear me, listen to what I'm

  660. saying. Mark 43 And this is the the

  661. parable of the sower. And he I'm going to read the

  662. read what he says. And then he explains it, but

  663. says, Listen, Behold, the sower went out to sow, and it happened

  664. as he sowed, that some seed fell on the wayside, and the birds of

  665. the air came and devoured it. Some fell on Stony ground, where

  666. it did not have much earth. Immediately it sprang up,

  667. because it had no depth of earth, but when the sun was up

  668. it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away.

  669. And some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and

  670. choked it out, and it yielded no crop, but other seeds fell on

  671. good ground and yielded A crop that sprang up and increased and

  672. produced some 30, some 60, and some hundredfold.

  673. And the disciples asked something that I that I'm sure

  674. we all ask, what does that mean? And so Jesus then goes through

  675. it in verse 14, and it says the sower sows the Word.

  676. And these are the ones by the wayside where the Word is sown.

  677. When they hear. When they hear, Satan comes

  678. immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their

  679. ears. These likewise are the ones sewn

  680. on Stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately

  681. receive it with gladness. And they have no root in

  682. themselves, and so endure only for a time.

  683. Afterwards, when tribulation and persecution arise for the word's

  684. sake, immediately they stumble. Now these are those.

  685. These are the ones among, Did I just use thorns?

  686. No storms. They are the ones who hear the

  687. word and care for the world, care for this world and the

  688. deceitfulness of riches and their desires for other things.

  689. Enter in, enter in, choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful.

  690. But these are the ones sown on good ground.

  691. Those who hear the word, accept it and bear fruit.

  692. Some 30, some 60, and some hundredfold.

  693. And if we look back at this, this time with Moses, right,

  694. these first 4 chapters, it is, he's speaking to the Lord,

  695. right? He starts off, he hears from

  696. people what he's supposed to, you know, he's going to, he's

  697. going to rescue, rescue the Israelites and he tries to do it

  698. in his own strength. And he lost his position, right?

  699. He killed an Egyptian, has to run off.

  700. God has to humble him. And for us guys, if there's

  701. anything in our lives, right, if you're, if you're not a believer

  702. and even if you are a believer, if there's anything in your life

  703. that before you can come to the Lord, you think you need to

  704. clean it up. You are, you were you were in

  705. that position where Moses was at, where you, you are, you were

  706. letting Satan steal something before God's even had the

  707. opportunity to give it to you because you're trying to, you're

  708. trying to clean yourself up before you come to the Lord.

  709. And my, my example of how that can go really wrong in, in

  710. Uganda, a Ugandan pastor will teach that you cannot drink

  711. alcohol and be a Christian now teaches not to get drunk.

  712. It teaches all kinds of things. But there's a, there's a tension

  713. there. And a Ugandan pastor will teach

  714. you are not allowed to drink ever.

  715. And everybody knows it. So if I am a, if I'm a 20 some

  716. year old kid and I've, I'm a drunk and I, I drink and they,

  717. they, they, it's the drunkest company.

  718. It's the drunkest country per capita.

  719. They drink the most alcohol of any country in the world.

  720. So they drink a lot. But if I'm a 20 year old kid and

  721. I've been drinking alcohol since I was 15 years old and I have

  722. tried to quit numerous times, I'm not going to church because

  723. I can't, because I drink and I can't quit.

  724. If, if you're, if the teaching is that you have to not drink

  725. alcohol to be a Christian. No, no, you have to love Jesus

  726. and Jesus takes alcohol away, right?

  727. That that is when you, when you, if you get the cart before the

  728. horse, you're slamming the door on people or people are slamming

  729. the door on themselves, right? When you, when you come into a

  730. church and you, you hear a convicting message and you're

  731. going to raise your hand, but you're like, well, I got to, I'm

  732. living with my girlfriend. No, you get right with Jesus,

  733. he'll take care of the rest of it, right?

  734. And and that's, that's where Moses thought he had something

  735. that he brought to the table. Then when you get the Stony

  736. ground, this is back in chapter, the beginning of chapter 4 where

  737. Moses was supposing. So Lord, have you thought of

  738. this? You know, have you, have you

  739. thought of the the, I mean, I'm excited, but there's a lot of

  740. there's a lot that you haven't really put in the in the story.

  741. And I wondered if you thought about it and that's, you know,

  742. you got saved and then you went home.

  743. And, you know, I'm Greg Laurie. I don't know if you guys know

  744. who he is, but Greg Laurie is a evangelist.

  745. Calvary Chapel and Harvest, Harvest Foot.

  746. Is it Harvest Valley? It's not Harvest Valley anyway.

  747. California Church. And he does, I mean, evangelist,

  748. awesome. But when he got saved, he was

  749. scared to death of his friends finding out.

  750. So like he went over to his, he went over to his friend's house

  751. and had a Bible because he just gotten saved.

  752. And he was all excited and he got to the front door and he put

  753. the Bible in the Bush because he didn't want to take it in the

  754. house because it was embarrassing.

  755. OK, He had to grow up from that because that was Stony ground,

  756. right? He was letting the world tell

  757. him and that there's a whole story that he has with that.

  758. Obviously you can see the fruit in his life that he, he decided

  759. that Jesus was worth looking a little stupid for.

  760. And then Moses fell among thorns when he worried about what his

  761. wife had to say. And, and I'm using his wife, but

  762. it's anybody, right? That's your, your, it's that he

  763. was willing to be disobedient to what the Lord was telling him to

  764. do because he was worried about what the world had to say about

  765. it, you know, but then there's good ground.

  766. And where did, where did Moses end up?

  767. Moses ended up bringing God's people out 2 million fold,

  768. right? 2 million people came out of

  769. Egypt. So his seed definitely was, was

  770. fruitful. But victory for us comes when we

  771. apply his blood to our lives. It isn't enough to know all the

  772. things. That's when I got saved.

  773. When I walked into a Calvary Chapel the very first time I

  774. walked in and I would have told you I was saved.

  775. I believe Jesus, Jesus lived. He was a real person who really

  776. lived. I believe Jesus died on a cross.

  777. He's a real person that really died on a cross.

  778. I even believe Jesus rose again for the third day, believed it

  779. all. And if I had to believe those

  780. things so that I could go to heaven, I believe me, they're

  781. done. Stamped it.

  782. The problem with that kind of belief is Satan believes all

  783. that stuff. I didn't believe he was my Lord.

  784. I didn't say yes, Lord, and it wasn't until I got to that point

  785. that I just that I said yes, Lord, which is not cleaning

  786. myself up, not worried about what the world says, but saying,

  787. Lord, this is where I'm at. I'm broken and useless in your

  788. Kingdom and the only thing that I have to offer is my surrender

  789. to you, right? And that's, that's the one way.

  790. The one way is by faith, the faith that God is who he says he

  791. is, surrendering your life to him.

  792. And that is that's it, right? The question is, is Moses is all

  793. in. And like I said at the

  794. beginning, at this point, from this point forward, we're going

  795. to see Moses. He got in, he sat down and he

  796. held on or even to the even to a more drastic, he got in, he sat

  797. down, he shut up and he held on. Because Moses doesn't have any

  798. more complaints he goes through. He's going to go talk to the

  799. Pharaoh, a guy that can just have his head cut off because

  800. he's having a bad day and he's going to say some very blunt,

  801. direct things to the point up to and past your first born son is

  802. going to die. And when he says that when we're

  803. in that Pharaoh had just got done telling him, the next time

  804. I see you, I'm going to kill you.

  805. And the next thing Moses says to him is your first born son's

  806. going to die, right? Moses gets in, sits down and

  807. holds on to what God tells him to do.

  808. How about us? Is that where we're at, right.

  809. We're supposed to get in, sit down and follow him wherever

  810. we're supposed to go. And guys, it's worth it's not a

  811. hard it. That's the fun part.

  812. It's not the the getting in and the sitting down that's telling

  813. our flesh to sit down and shut up The the holding on dude, it's

  814. joy. It's a kick.

  815. I mean, there is nothing I would rather do than be where God

  816. wants me doing what God wants me to do.

  817. And so, yeah, is that good? You have a good week.

  818. So Lord, I just I thank you for that, Lord, I thank you that

  819. you, you just want to use us. And Lord, you want to use us in

  820. a way that shows who you are. And Lord, in doing that, Lord,

  821. you want to stretch us, you want to grow us, you want to

  822. transform us. And Lord, you gave us all the

  823. tools in your son, Lord, that, that you would just give us

  824. that, that heart that just wants to follow after you.

  825. Lord, that we would just exchange all of our knowledge

  826. and our information and our thought process here on this

  827. earth. Lord, for yes Lord, whatever you

  828. want to do, however you want to do it.

  829. And I pray all this in Jesus name, Amen.
